I hate watching Lover’s Walk with the best of them, but it’s actually a really tight, really great episode, and I see a lot of teen shows not try to emulate the same formula, and fail every time, and the problem is they lack emotional weight and audience investment. When Oz and Willow, Xander and Cordelia break up, it’s because Willow and Xander have been cheating, for at least 2 episodes now, and that all comes to a head when they’re kidnapped by Spike. The weight of their transgression is added in this episode because, we’re focused on them. But the thing that makes it suck so much, is because Ozillow/Xordelia haven’t just been...off screen somewhere not doing anything. We’ve seen them with Buffy, being couples. We’ve watched them both get together, make milestones in their respective relationships:

And then just being couples on screen:

So by the time we get to Lover’s Walk, when it’s clear that both Cordelia and Oz have gotten serious about their relationships, and the guilt Xander and Willow have bubbles over, the stakes of the breakup feels *real*.

Not to mention, Spike being at his BEST in BTVS when he just shows up and blows up every single one of the scooby’s lives. Xander, Willow, and then forcing Buffy to confront her feelings for Angel and putting distance between them, while he does shit like this:

is just so GOOD.

I also love the added detail that Cordelia gets impaled. Because based on their characters, Cordelia had just admitted to Buffy she loved Xander. And that was huge for her as a character. We see her as basically a man eater up until this point, and she really falls for Xander. So it’s arguable that, while the cheating hurt, like Oz, she could make her way back to him. But not after falling through the stairs and getting impaled trying to save Xander while he’s making out with Willow. The humiliation alone, would ensure that she could never go back. And it’s only compounded when she returns to school. Cordelia had the most to lose by dating Xander, and the show makes good on that loss.

This episode was *such* a good study on the characters and relationships of the show, and using everything we’ve seen up until now to put us through the ringer emotionally, while also making us laugh, and shows now are doggedly dragging us through an overcomplicated plot, that we have no investment in the characters, so attempting these kinds of character moments in a random episode doesn’t land, because there’s engagement and without engagement we can’t emotionally invest. BTVS leveraged our investment and threw us into these emotional rollercoasters every so often by following through on the consequences of the behaviour of the characters. That’s what makes a show iconic.

hiii so I saw this on someone else's acc and I rlly wanted to do this!! I am obsessed with Buffy so here we go~

The first character I first fell in love with: Willow Rosenberg!! I mean, is it really a surprise? I think I saw myself in her throughout the show; we're both awkward unconfident gingers who are desperate to feel needed. I had a huge crush on Willow at the start, and I loved seeing her character arc and all of her romantic partners!! She'll always have a special place in my heart <3

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Probably Giles, honestly. I was young-ish when I started watching Buffy, and I didn't really understand or like his character very much. In the first season, he's just so stuffy and librarian-y. But seeing his character develop and change into someone a lot cooler than his season one self was so amazing. Love Giles <3

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Please, does anyone even like Xander? Like I get that he can be funny sometimes but I just didn't see the point in a lot of decisions that the writers made for him. He was often misogynistic and inappropriate, and that behavior was almost rewarded by giving him love interests WAY out of his league. I never understood how Cordy, Willow, and Anya could have low enough standards to date that man.

The character I love that everyone else hates: Kennedy!!! She gets so much hate just for not being Tara, and I did love Tara so much, but I don't hate Kennedy because of that. Kennedy helped Willow mature into a self-assured adult. She was always respectful of Willow's past relationship with Tara, especially in 'The Killer In Me'. Aahhh I just love her so much, she deserves none of the hate she gets.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Not really anyone, I love them all!

The character I’d want to be like: Who in their right mind wouldn't want to be like Tara?? She's forever my favorite character, and in season 6, is the glue that holds the Scoobies together. She's so sweet and maternal and loving <3

The character I’d slap:Were he still alive (which I think he might possibly be in the comics??), Warren

A pairing that I love: Omg I love so many pairings in this show, but I think romantically it has to be Willow and Tara all the way <3 They're forever my otp in any show ever. Platonically, it's pretty much a tie between Spike/Dawn or Tara/Dawn. Dawn went through so much and is so overhated by the fandom. Even her own sister (although she was struggling with her mother's death too) didn't properly recognise her sister's pain the way that Tara and Spike did. They also both related heavily to Dawn; Spike had that whole conversation with Dawn about not being able to be good, and although it wasn't really shown on-screen, Tara related to discovering that things she had thought about herself were not true (Tara thinking she was a demon, Dawn discovering she was the key)

A pairing that I despise: Willow and Xander is eternally the worst romantic ship of all time. As I said earlier, Willow was WAY out of Xander's league. Also, with Oz, Tara, and Kennedy, Willow had the most impeccable taste. How in the world did she fall for Xander??

Okay, phew, this episode.

First of all, I loved loved this episode. So far it's my favorite. It had everything, drama, craziness, humor - different from the other episodes - and I really loved it. Again, turning people into their Halloween costume - a masterpiece 🤌. I absolutely loved this plot.

I loved watching Buffy's character being this woman lmao. Xander as the soldier - my heart, he really looked and even sounded hot. Willow as always my adorable hot girl. And we had OZ. Mr. Who's that girl. Adore this guy lol.

Now, WTF GILES? WHO ARE YOU? WHO IS HE!? I swear to God it took me by surprise. Damn Giles. Everyone here has a dark past(minus the teenagers but living in this town, they're well on their way).

Anyway, fav episode so far, loved every second of it. That's it for now, see ya in the next one. Cheers 🥂

Yeah, pretty sure I've said this somewhere but I'm a big fan of all the OG ships.

Oz/Willow

My thing with them is they go from adorable/sweet to extremely hot in like 0.1 seconds.

Xander/Cordelia

I love the enemies to lovers thing, it works for them, because they don't change as characters. They're fundamentally themselves and that generates enough friction/drama in their relationship, but it also makes them funny and cute.

Giles/Jenny Honestly they just deserved more time.

Honourable mention: Willow/Xander as vampires Because I like Xordelia and Ozillow, I can't get behind Xillow, but them as vampires was a lot and really creepy/hot.

I know this ask asked for a favourite, but tbh I like all of these equally.

Giles x reader - don’t go

Eyes scanning over the pages of the book in your hand, you only looked up to push open the door to the shop and walked in before you went back to reading.

You easily dodged people and made your way down the stairs, heading to the table to sit down and you paused, stepping away from the table.

“Is something wrong?” Tara asked.

You glanced up from your hook again, checking out what they had laid on the table and you closed the book, setting it down.

You gestured to the items they had laying on it.

“What’s with the uh.. the animal hunt get up?” You asked nervously.

“Well, you remember that animal we were telling you about?” Buffy asked.

You nodded your head, looking at them all.

“Well we uh.. we found out what it is.” Giles said.

You looked at him, shuffling a little further away from the table.

“Werewolf.” Xander piped up.

“Like Oz?” You asked.

“No.. no, different. Apparently there’s.. there’s different kinds.” Giles said.

He set a book down on the table and took his glasses off as he sat down, gesturing to it.

Carefully you walked over, looking at the page with all the information on it.

“Buffy found this on the man who the beast killed, a uh.. I think they call him a hunter.”

You slowly nodded.

“They said that these types of werewolves used to have a huge influence on the world thousands of years ago.”

“It’s true, in some places they were treated like gods.” Anya shrugged.

“Well, from what I read they don’t just go around killing people for no reason.” You said.

“Sometimes things snap. At least we know how to kill it, and any others that want to show.”

You stood away, and shoved your hands into your pockets as you went to sit on the steps that led to the balcony.

“So, what else do you know?”

“Well this uh.. this hunter came after us..” Giles mumbled.

“You?”

“Said he was hunting a werewolf and we knew where it was.” Willow said.

They carried on talking and you only pretended to listen to them.

You knew why the hunter was there of course, he was there for you and there was no doubt about it because there was no other like you in the town.

He was coming after Giles and the scoobies because of you, because of what you were and you felt horrible about it.

You knew they were just going to keep coming.

You had built this amazing life, you had gotten a job, you had found a guy who you desperately wanted to ask on a date but you were too scared too, and you had a group of young adults who were always out saving the world.

It was a strange town for sure, but it was your town.

Looking up at them, you saw a few scrapes on Buffy, and they all looked stressed, trying to figure it out.

“Well, these things don’t like Silver, right? So why don’t we just throw silver at everybody until we find it?” Anya asked.

“Because unless you’re hoarding a stash of silver somewhere we don’t have enough or the time.” Xander sighed.

“We.. we need to do something, because more hunters come after us or hurt somebody innocent.”

You were still lost in deep though, trying to figure out what you should do, what your next move should be.

Did you stay there? Did you leave?

You didn’t know, but no doubt the hunters wouldn’t leave, not straight away, and they were brutal, that you knew.

Getting up, you bumped into somebody, and without thinking you reached out to grab what you had knocked from their hand.

A flash of pain went through your hand and you threw it to the side, stepping away as you clutched your hand.

“Damn it!” You yelled.

Shaking your hand you looked at the forming burn.

You realised it had gone dead silent and you looked up, finding out who you had walked into and your eyes widened as a sliver blade was pointed at you.

“Buffy you don’t want to do this…”

“Don’t I?” She asked coldly.

“It’s me.. the.. the friendly shop keep from a few shops down… I help you all with school and I.. I sometimes help Rupert…”

“They hurt us trying to find you!” Xander yelled.

You backed away, tears in your eyes and you raised your hands.

“I… I’m sorry..”

You noticed everybody had a weapon trained at you, and before you could stop them Willie and Tara used a spell to throw you out of the window and out of the shop.

They all stood there, weapons aimed at you.

“Please…”

“Leave, never come back to this town.” Giles said coldly.

“I.. I never hurt anybody…”

“He said leave!” Buffy yelled.

You nodded weakly, standing up, brushing some broken glass from your clothes.

“Just listen to me, please! Rupert come on, listen to me, just let me explain…”

“E.. explain what? You brought hunters here, they are hunting innocent people because of you!” Giles snapped.

You didn’t reply, you clenched your jaw and turned your gaze to the ground.

“This… this all your fault, Buffy nearly got herself killed trying to fight a group of them because of you!”

You slowly nodded your head.

“I’ll take the hunters with me, they’ll follow me…”

You looked around, running across the street you jumped on a bench, spinning yourself backwards a bright light circling you and your paws hit the ground.

You slowly raised yourself to your full height, and the people you had grown used to, and you looked away from their scared and shocked faces.

Lifting your head, you let out a howl that had them covering their ears.

Suddenly you stopped, looking at them again before you turned to the group of people who had appeared.

Spinning around you ran down the street, dodging their bullets and you vanished around the corner, taking them with you.

That was the last any of them saw you and the hunters.

You spent that time running far away, loosing the hunters along the line and now you were running from yourself, running from the memories, the past, everything.

You went back to the place you could get clarity and you stayed there.

Sometimes you made your way back towards the town, but you couldn’t find it in your heart or mind to step in.

So, you would just stand there and stare at it before leaving again.

Sometimes they would find themselves looking out of the town, wondering where you were, if you were okay.

Especially Giles, he would look at your now empty shop, boarded up, smashed, covered in graffiti.

He would drive past your apartment and he couldn’t help look at it.

Life was quieter without you, you were so energetic, happy, always finding a reason to smile and celebrate.

And after you left he delved into more research about you and what you could do, and he grew to learn more about the side of you that you hid away from them all.

And in a way he understood why you never said anything, why you were so scared to tell them.

But when a whole pack of werewolves like you moved in to cause trouble, they realised they had made a mistake sending you away.

They tried to fight them, but they couldn’t, a whole pack of incredibly strong, rebellious, and a knack for hunting people.

“We need to help.” Tara sighed.

“Maybe more hunters can come?” Willow asked.

“Every time they come the wolves kill them, there’s not much else we can do, Buffy went up against one of them and nearly became dog food.” Anya said.

Giles carried on flicking through the pages of the book and he stopped, flicking one back.

“We need (Y/N)..”

Giles set the book on the table and they all looked at it.

“I.. I’ve been reading the journals of all the hunters, they know this pack…”

“They know how to kill them?” Xander asked.

Giles shook his head.

“No… they weren’t going to kill (Y/N).. they wanted her help…”

They all looked at the book, then shared a look.

“How do we get her back?” Buffy asked.

“I.. I’ve been looking at spells to track her down, I.. I found one to call to her..”

Giles grabbed another book, and he opened it, showing willow everything she needed and explaining what she had to do.

Standing on the mountains you took a deep breath, the cold air burning your lungs a little bit, and you looked at the sunrise.

You felt something next to you and you looked to the side.

“Powerful spell. I’m proud of you.” You said softly.

“We need your help.”

You turned to the projection next to you, and you shook your head.

“Willow this spell is too powerful, release it before you hurt yourself. Please.”

She shook her head.

“Not until you agree to come help us. Please!”

You turned away, choosing to ignore her knowing for a fact that eventually the spell would wear off.

You turned around, following your steps back down the mountain, and she followed you, still trying to get your attention.

“(Y/N).”

You slowly stopped, watching the projection of Giles as he walked around you.

“There is a… a whole pack.. we can’t stop them…”

“You can, silver, remember.”

Giles shook his head.

“There’s too many, every hunter that goes after them gets killed, every time we try to slow them down we get hurt. They’re killing people (Y/N), please… help us stop this…”

“It’s not my place, I said I wouldn’t return.”

You walked through him and he called your name, making you stop again.

“Please. You told me if I ever needed anything to ask. This.. this is me asking.”

In the background of the projection you could hear talking and whispering, but you couldn’t make out any of the other words.

You began walking again, and before Giles could call your name again the spell broke, and he looked up from where he was sat in the circle.

“Any luck?” Willow asked.

“I… I fear we’re on our own..”

A somber air filled the room.

They had to try and stop this, and that’s what they did, again and again they tried to hold the wolves off.

Once again like always they tried to stop it, they were beaten, bloodied, and nobody could stand.

Wolves circled the group, snarling and snapping their jaws, and the alpha stepped forward.

He smirked a little, kicking the gun away from Giles.

“You put up a good fight for human.”

“We’ll stop you…” Giles mumbled.

He chuckled, kicking Giles in the face, making him fall back.

“I’ll kill every one of these brats you love so much, then you.”

Giles watched as the man changed, snarling and snapping his jaw as he walked towards Buffy who was trying to stand up.

Giles shuffled, grabbing the gun and he grunted as he sat up, catching the wolves attention and they all snarled, walking towards him.

He closed his eyes, waiting for the horrid end, but it never came.

Slowly he opened his eyes to see all but the alpha had backed away.

A large paw was in front of him, and as he slowly lifted his head he saw the figure of a wolf standing over him.

“(Y/N)…”

You sneered, and the wolf in front of you stepped back, and sneered, going to bite you.

You let out a deep growl, and he whined, slowly backing away, and the others laid down.

Another growl and they all reverted back to their human forms.

“You have no right! You gave me the rank!” The man yelled.

Xander and Anya pulled Giles from where he was and helped him stand up.

You didn’t pay them much mind, you just stalked forward until you towered over the pack who all trembled.

“Fine! We’ll go!”

They all backed away, and you walked back and forth, growls rumbling through you.

You turned back, and you carried on pacing.

“They’re coming for you.”

“No…”

“All of you, you hurt humans, you broke our laws and you will all pay. The hunters spirits will hunt you down one by one.”

You smirked a little.

“Now run, that’s an order.”

They all sprinted away, and you turned around, looking at them.

“I’m going don’t worry.”

“Wait! Wait don’t go!” Willow called.

They all walked forward, and you took one step back, making them stop.

“Uh… silver..”

“Sorry!”

They all dropped their weapons and all of them smiled at you.

“So.. will you come back?” Giles asked.

You shook your head, and you turned around, walking back the way you came from.

They called out for you, but you only heard one set of steps following you.

“You wanted me to leave, that’s what I’m doing, and I had plenty of time to think about it, it’s for the best.”

You stepped, and he stopped next to you.

“I.. I spoke too rash.”

“You had every reason.”

Giles shook his head.

“No, no I should have listened. I know you wouldn’t have done anything to put us in any danger.”

You turned to look at him, offering him a small smile.

“I still have to go.”

“Please stay…”

You shook your head.

“I can’t..”

“Well… why.. why not..?”

You sighed, and you looked away.

“Rupert when I.. when I look I you all I see is that anger… that.. that fear.. I can’t get it out of my head..”

“I.. I’m so sorry..”

You shook your head, reaching out you took his hand and gave it a small squeeze.

“You don’t have to be sorry, but I have to go..”

He stepped closer, holding your hand in his, thumb running along the back of your hand in small circles and you smiled.

You missed this, missed being with him.

“Please stay here… I… I want you to be here..”

You went to speak when a shot rang out, and you fell to the side half unto the water, and Giles rushed over to you.

He pulled your head out of the water and placed it in his lap, covering the wound with his hand, watching as the blood ran through his fingers.

You let out a weak laugh, staring up at the sky as pain breaths escaped you, blood running from your mouth.

“I.. I can’t see who shot you…”

You reached up, placing a hand on his arm, drawing his attention back to you.

“So… this.. this is it.. huh…?” You said.

“No. No. No. of course not…”

He adjusted his hold on you and picked you up, adjusting you in his arms before he began rushing towards his car.

You looked at Giles, then looked at the sky rushing over you.

Tears burned your eyes, and you weakly gripped at his sweater.

“I.. I don’t.. don’t make me go..”

“You’re not going anywhere dear, I promise..”

He eased you into his car and pressed a kiss to your forehead.

He wasn’t going to let you go anywhere, he wasn’t going to let it all end like this
