tbh i dunno why so many sj apologists are anti-yqy. because like????? he is your mascot. he was the originator. the head honcho of excusing sj's levels of unmitigated villainy. look into my eyes and tell me that qi ge wouldn't blush and kick his feet if he saw xiao jiu commit murder. actually we don't NEED to imagine bc jiumei did just that and yue qi just grabbed his hand and ran, no thoughts head empty. arson? child abuse?? yue qi doesn't care. whatever makes xiao jiu happy <3

propaganda (SPOILERS) under cut
Jin Guangyao: All his mother ever wanted was for him to be in his rightful place by his father's side. Everything he's ever done, it's just to keep himself and the memory of his mother alive. He's honouring her, honouring her memory. If his father orders him to do something awful, then how can he say no, and disrespect his mother's memory? And if his father continues to disrespect his mother's memory... how can he be allowed to live?
Xie Wang: He was rescued from the streets, raised up from nothing. How can he not give his yifu everything he asks for? Do everything his yifu asks him to do? Become everything his yifu wants him to become? Yifu is the only one who loves him. Yifu is the only one who cares for him. Yifu is the only one he loves. Yifu... yifu doesn't care about him at all.
Prince Yu: You could be the emperor, they told him. Of all your brothers, you're the most like your father, they told him. All you have to do is play the game and wait for it to be your turn, they told him. He played the game, and he played it well, and it was finally his turn. He was finally chosen. Except, he wasn't. He was a front, allowing his pathetic younger brother to steal what was rightfully his out from under his nose. You have one last chance, they tell him. And what other choice does he have?
Shulin: His mother (the one who raised him) told him that she found him, abandoned. Asked him if he wanted to know where he came from. He was just a child. Of course he wanted to know where he came from. And then his home, his people (the ones who raised him) were destroyed. Destroyed by his mother (the one who swapped him for another child, the one who left him to die). Of course he wants his birth mother, his birth people to suffer the same fate as the only people who ever really cared about him. It's a kinder death than they deserve.
Xiao Yu: He is not his father's favourite son. Everybody knows that. As a child, he had liked to think he could compete, but he should have known better. Even with Chuhe gone, even as the only possible candidate, the title of crown prince is still not his. What's worse, though, is that he is not his mother's favourite son, either. She sits and she sighs about some other child that he has never met, as if he isn't right here, not loved by either of them. No matter. He'll use whoever he has to to get the power he deserves.
Ye Zun: He is nothing, he knows. You have no power, they jeer as they spit at him and beat him. His master laughs at his downturned head, taunts him with the knowledge that his own brother sold him to his life of misery. He has never had power… until he does. And once he’s found his strength… why would he give it up? Why wouldn’t he make them pay?
Shen Jiu: He was plucked out of a ditch as a child, with nothing. No food, no home, no parents. Only an older brother, and for years it’s enough. Then, not even that. Later there's power and prestige, but alongside it hatred, mockery. And then he dies, unmourned, unnoticed, unloved. Even his so-called older brother doesn’t notice. This is a secret he has always known - the only way that the story can end happily is without him.
Runyu: He has been pushed to the side in favour of his brother, but he can’t hate him. He is the only one who has stood by him. If that means stepping into the shadows as he strides into the light… well, it is no hardship. Until he meets her. His future wife, their fates intertwined since birth. The one shining promise that has kept him warm through the tormented millennia. And so, for the first time in his existence, he chooses to be selfish. Is that so wrong?
Yin Pei: Dear tumblr user. If you’ve made it this far, I’ll be real with you. I don’t remember what happens in tv shows unless I become obsessed with them or have watched them recently, and neither of those apply here. I can’t remember anything about Yin Pei except he had daddy issues and we referred to him as Kylo Pei in the group chat. Make of that what you will
many thanks to @nemainofthewater for writing ye zun, shen jiu, runyu. I don't know who they are

time travel au, gongyi xiao centric, yijiu (to heal the soul)
instead of dying in canon, gyx somehow gets transported back in time. lets say the dungeon is a key plot location, and the system accidentally clicks something, and so gyx ends up in the peaklords' discipleship era, and its too late to turn back now (the system is severely punished, rip)
opm goes down to deal with the stranger somehow in the dungeons, graciously answering the questions a typically confused individual would have after waking in a place they werent in before. ("what date is it?" "its xx, xx, xxxx", "where is this?" "you are in huanhua palace, young man. pray tell, how did you end up in here?")
he explains to opm that hes from the future, but when asked about what will happen, gyx refuses to say
he says the usual space-time continium cannot be disturbed further thing, and how he doesnt want anyone to be harmed by being in the know
gyx Still needs to prove he Isnt lying tho, so he reveals that he knows opm's wife is pregnant with a daughter
this knowledge was only known by the opm, his wife, and the 2 healers who attended to her, proving gyx's claims to be from the future
gyx's knowledge and experience with time travel, something only rumored to be possible by the most powerful of gods and one horrifying sword, is important if opm wants to harness it for the future. thus, opm resolves to not lose him. (and surely loyalty will keep this strange young man by his side)
gyx is set free and accepted as a huanhua disciple once more. opm makes the papers to keep people from questioning gyx's lack of existence prior to his apperance
when gyx figures out that the next immortal alliance conference might be the one sqq participated in as a disciple under wyz, gyx requests he joins
"is there any specific reason why, disciple gongyi?" asks the opm
"it is a personal matter, master"
he joins, and finds sqq–now sj–right on time. gyx slays wyz before he can harm yqy.
gyx graciously leaves yqy and sj to talk, instead moving to deal with the body and calling for their masters
the talk doesnt seem to go well, because yqy's eyes are red and teary, while sj's are furious and stormy (yet wet all the same)
just before they part ways, sj and gyx meet eyes, and sj sends him a nod of acknowledgment. gyx knows they will meet once more, but for now they will have to deal with the mess the iac has turned to
bc a disciple of huanhua was the one to defeat wyz, huanhua gets more attention and praise, and in the process so does gyx. this only delays gyx from meeting with sj, until 2 weeks have passed
he has no reason strong enough to go to cang qiong in person, plus hhp and cqms have always been rivals despite being allied
instead he writes a letter to sj and (after some thought) yqy, asking after their well-being. yqy's letter comes a few days after, explaining that he is well; it is polite and doesnt divulge too much, as expected. sadly, sj doesnt write back.
still, gyx keeps sending sj letters, making idle talk of the latest trends and the current weather. sometimes he rambles about the beasts hes fortunate enough to encounter, and on the rare occasion mild jokes that poke fun at a rich client.
(gyx may be a rich boy but hes a nice, self aware one who recognizes the flaws in the people with high status. swell guy 100/10)
after some time, sj replies with what could be summed up as "whats wrong with you, what are you doing, why are you doing this, are you insane (/gen)?"
it can be presumed that sj got sick of the letters that have been piling up in the corner of his drawer
gyx replies, "im curious about you :DD *insert polite yet genuine praise directed at sj*"
he cant exactly say hes infatuated with sj. to sj, they only saw each other for a brief moment, and intrigue sounds less insane than love. gyx also wouldnt be lying, so ! all is well !!
sj is oddly amused (totally not endeared) to the dork that just cant seem to get the message that he doesnt want to get acquainted with him
he cant help but pity him, so for the first time sends back a response. surprisingly, sj keeps writing back
its a little sad to say the letters are one of the few things sj looks forward to every month
(hoookay this is getting long)
in short, sj and gyx meet up for the first time when cq and hh need to assist each other for a mission
gyx wasnt supposed to go with at first, but. well. being one of opm's favorites has its perks and gyx is at least smart enough to use it (this is sj's influence)
sj's still a hated figure if sj's martial siblings' mutterings were to represent the cq disciples as a whole, and it saddens gyx a lot. it doesnt deter him, however
sj is different from sqq. sj is meaner, stricter, and more refined even as a disciple. he thinks sj mellowed out as he grew, since the sqq he met in the future was kinder, a little more lax, and not as caring of his appearance. still, sj is as wonderful as he remembers, even if different
they arent at the courting stage yet, but in the near future they will be :))

Last night I wrote some soft qijiu for my really long fanfic (progress is happening. I’ll get enough written to start posting eventually!). Because this scene isn’t until part 5, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share it now.
Giving full context is way too long and complex, but here’s the basic gist. While he was still a disciple, Shang Qinghua ended up saving Shen Jiu from the Qui’s and caused a lot of ripple effects. Now years later, Shen Yuan has just arrived (in his own body) and expects the world to still be like in PIDW. He and Binghe recently went on a mission that didn’t go super well (think the skinner demon beginner mission) and Shen Qingqui had to come and bail them out. This takes place later that evening.
Anyway, here it is! A warning for some light references to past child abuse (Shen Jiu’s) and scars.
Shen Qingqui sank into the mass of soft pillows and blankets. He let out a moan as his tired muscles all but melted into his mattress. To his side, a warm lump shifted slightly to better accommodate his sprawl.
“Who said you could move? Get back over here.” Shen Qingqui rolled over to face his husband and gave him a pointed scowl.
Qi-ge only laughed and obeyed, rolling back in closer so Shen Qingqui could nuzzle up against him. Qi-ge draped a gentle arm across his shoulder, pulling him even closer and rubbing circles against his back.
“Long day?” His fingers pressed into a tight spot between Shen Qingqui’s shoulder blades and Shen Qingqui let out a deep moan. Qi-ge sighed contently at the sound and pecked a chaste kiss on the top of his head.
Shen Qingqui pressed his face against Qi-ge’s chest and breathed in his comforting warmth. “That child is going to be the death of me. How can he be so talented and smart, but also so absurdly stupid?”
Qi-ge chuckled softly. “Ah yes. I heard Binghe and Shen Yuan ran into a little trouble today and that Ming Fan and Ning Yingying served as accomplices. There were apparently four rather contrite looking disciples kneeling in reflection in one of the meditation pavilions.”
Shen Qingqui sighed. “It’s always good seeing my disciples make new friends and Binghe seems particularly taken with young A-Yuan, but there’s a difference between showing off a little and being just plain dumb. Honestly, what was that child thinking today?”
Qi-ge let out another chuckle. “It sounds to me as though he simply wasn’t. But sometimes that’s just how children are. Not me of course, I was always a model of foresight and patience, but other, less rational and level headed children might behave that way from time to time.”
Shen Jiu pulled one of his arms from his comfortable embrace to reach around and smack Qi-ge none too lightly in the back of his head. It was probably a good thing for his husband that his fan was tucked safely away out of reach, but Qi-ge only laughed at the blow. He pressed another kiss to the top of Shen Qingqui’s head.
“Hopefully Binghe will reign himself in long before he reaches the levels of impetuous stupidity I did, but either way, I know you’ll be there to help steer him in the right path.”
“So long as he doesn’t send me to an early grave first,” Shen Qingqui groused. Qi-ge only kissed him again. “Naturally. But you know perfectly well that I’d never allow that.”
The pair lapsed back into a comfortable silence, filled only with the sounds of their slow and steady breaths. Beneath his head, Qi-ge’s chest rose and fell in a soothing rhythm. It was almost enough to lull Shen Qingqui to sleep, but his mind wasn’t ready to rest quite yet.
“Did you hear that Shen Yuan jumped between me and Binghe today?”
Qi-ge stiffened slightly. “I didn’t. What brought that on?”
Shen Qingqui closed his eyes and recalled Shen Yuan’s terrified face. He had tried so hard to mask it under a veil of bravado and defiance, but Shen Qingqui had lived too much of his life surrounded by frightened eyes to recognize them as anything less. The Qui manor in all its opulent glory had no shortage of mirrors and he was intimately familiar with his own.
“He was afraid I was going to hurt Binghe. He saw me angry and approaching him and assumed the worst.”
Qi-ge let out a long sigh. “Unfortunately that’s not completely uncommon for children either. It’s always sad to see it manifest though.” His fingers continued to trace soft lines along Shen Qingqui’s back, running over the long-since scabbed over whip scars. “At least he’s now in one of the best places he could be to start healing now.”
Shen Qingqui smiled at the thought. “Cang Qiong Mountain really is very good for that. I never imagined I could even start the process, let alone end up where I am now.” He tilted his head up to press a kiss against Qi-ge’s jaw.
Qi-ge leaned down and gently caught his lips in his own. The kiss was soft and short, but Qi-ge waited for Shen Qingqui to pull him back in with more force. Their tongues brushed, sending shivers down Shen Qingqui’s spine. No matter how many years passed, the taste of his husband still left him feeling tingly and warm.
Eventually they pulled apart once more, although Qi-ge kept their foreheads pressed together. “I’m so proud and happy for you, Xiao Jui. There’s nothing more beautiful in the world than seeing you filled with joy. But I wasn’t actually talking about our sect when I said he was in a good place. Our sect as a whole is wonderful, but it has nothing on him finding you.”
Shen Qingqui’s cheeks grew warm and he buried his face against Qi-ge’s chest once more. “Moron.” He smacked Qi-ge again. “When did you become so disgustingly sentimental?”
Qi-ge gently stroked one of his burning cheeks. “Probably the moment I realized I had someone precious to me whose side I never wanted to leave.”
“Moron.” With his face still pressed against Qi-ge’s chest, he didn’t bother rolling his eyes. Besides, Qi-ge would never buy the annoyance anyway.
“I hope you’re right though. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful, kind-hearted morons who were willing to stand by me even at my worst. I just want them to have at least that.”
Qi-ge chuckled once more. “Well, as long as our friends and I are around, you should have no shortage of morons. But I’m sure your disciples can all feel your love. And I know they’re all safe now.”
Shen Qingqui closed his eyes once more and let the weight of the world drift away against his husband’s chest. “I really do have the best morons anyone could possibly hope for. Now what are you still doing up at this hour? Honestly. Go to sleep already.”
Qi-ge wrapped his arms a little tighter around Shen Qingqui and rested his head against his. “Of course, my love. Silly me.”

1) idk what that reviewer was talking about saying Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye get together “too quickly,” I’m a quarter of the way through the book and so far we’ve had one-sided lust with the hints of it stirring into being two-sided, and 2) I absolutely cannot wait til they become a couple because I love their every interaction 😊
