“Nicely done, guys. Let’s run it again in a few minutes.” The choreographer walked off, letting the members of SuperM take a minute to rest.
YinYin limped over to the bench, practically collapsing into her seat. Her back was aching, but it wasn’t unbearable yet. She could force herself through a few more hours of practice before it would be too much. This entire experience was very new to her. She was normally the one leading practices, pushing on when everyone else had long since collapsed. But now, she was the one who was being checked on, who might, at any moment, go down and not get back up.
The company wasn’t forcing her to participate in this comeback. She’d felt awful sitting out promotions with WayV, and hadn’t even considered sitting out on SuperM. She knew the boys were keeping a closer eye on her than normal, but they trusted her to know when to stop.
She reached for her water bottle, shrugging out of her sweater. Sumi had given it to her, along with the matching sweatpants, stating that she’d accidentally ordered them in too small a size. But YinYin wasn’t exactly sure how you accidentally order a seven-hundred-dollar track suit without double checking the size. Either way, she did really like them, as they weren’t something that she would ever have bought for herself. The green trackpants were so light that they were almost non-existent, but were perfect for long dance practices.
“Feeling okay, Yin?” Taeyong asked her, taking the seat to her right.
She nodded. “Yeah. I mean….a bit hot and sweaty, but my back feel fine.”
“You sure you shouldn’t be sitting out for another week or so?” Mark asked. “I mean….your back was really messed up.”
“Thanks, Mark.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m fine. It’s healing really well. I’ve rested a lot so it is much better.”
“You’ve been taking it easy?” Taemin asked.
“You’ve been living with Sumi, right?” Kai asked. “She mentioned that. Obviously she’s taken you shopping.”
YinYin glanced down at her outfit with a blush. “Oh, she just gave me this. I’m not really one for shopping.”
“Come to think of it, you didn’t really do any shopping when we were in the States last time.” Baekyun realized.
“I…have everything I need.”
“And that might be the first time I’ve seen you wear a brand.” Taemin pointed out. Other than shoots and stuff.”
“YinYin’s low-key.” Ten offered helpfully.
“She just wears whatever.” Lucas added.
“Yeah,” YinYin nodded. “I don’t spend money on stuff in general, really.”
“Why not,” Kai asked. “I mean, you make a decent amount, right?”
YinYin shrugged. “I guess….when I started, I was sending it all home to my parents. And now, old habits I guess. I never bought a new item of clothing before I moved to Korea, so it feels kind of weird to be spending money on things like that. You know….things that I don’t need.”
Taemin tilted his head. “Do you parents work?”
“Very hard.” YinYin confirmed. “But…I mean….” She considered it for a second. Only Lucas and Ten knew just how bad her financial situation had been, but it wasn’t something that she should be ashamed about. She didn’t see the harm in telling her other group mates.
“I lived in a one room apartment with my parents until I moved to Korea. My gymnastics was all sponsored through a national program and through my school. I danced on the side to raise some money, but I never really had any extra to buy things that weren’t necessities.”
“So what, you auditioned and decided to move?” Taemin leaned forward, clearly shocked by her story.
YinYin shook her head. “I was scouted. Someone had posted a video of my dance to Weibo and a scout saw it. They offered to pay my trainee fees, because we would have never been able to afford it, and we figured it was too good of an opportunity to miss.”
“And that was the last time you saw your parents, right?” Taeyong asked.
She nodded. “Yeah, I keep in touch but…you know, things are kind of crazy.”
“That’s insane, Yinnie.” Baekyun gasped. “You didn’t even….the company could have flown them out when you were hurt. Why didn’t they?”
“They offered.” YinYin smiled. “But they had work and I didn’t want to make a big deal out of things.”
“More like you wanted to move in with your new super rich Korean mom.” Lucas snorted.
“Yah,” YinYin reached out to slap his arm. “Sumi can’t replace my mom. She’s just like my really cool older sister.”
“She’s super hot too.” Lucas sighed.
“Wong Yukhei!” YinYin exclaimed. “Ten isn’t that gross about everything.”
“I mean….she is hot.”
“You guys are grossing me out.” Kai shook his head.
“And by the way.” YinYin crossed her arms. “Why do you never say that I’m hot?”
“Because you’re YinYin.” Lucas said matter-of-factly.
“So? I still want to be hot. Or is it the money that makes Sumi your type?”
Lucas looked like he wanted to nod, but Taeyong shook his head. “You’re totally hot. Ignore him.”
“Yeah, you’re definitely the best looking girl in NCT.” Mark winked.
“And in SuperM.” Taemin laughed.
YinYin rolled her eyes. “Thanks guys. I really appreciate the confidence boost.”
“That’s what we’re here for.” Ten smiled at her. “Now, are you good to continue practice?”
“I’m good.” She stood. “I can do this all day.”
“But you won’t, because you’re injured and you’re going to be responsible.” Taeyong cautioned.
YinYin snorted. “Sure. Believe that if you want.”

hanahaki disease is my least favourite fic trope of all time even worse than omegaverse even worse than shitty mafia AUs even worse than furry kink shit like oviposition or knotting. because its SUCH bad fucking worldbuilding. oh the world would be exactly the same even though physics and medicine and sexuality and sociology would be entirely fucking different? japan was isolationist till the 19th century and you think the predominant term would be japanese? you think the USA would use a japanese term for ANYTHING after ww2? you think there wouldnt be insane bureaucracy you think some dumb high schooler could keep it secret? you cant reference the MCU or jesus cos now you have to explain how judas got hanahaki disease or whatever. ur telling me stan lee exists in the same timeline as hanahaki. Grow up. get real.

oversharing era was funny tho, go gurl obliterate that twink
unfortunately it was extremely funny 😭 im back to thinking hey it would be REALLY funny to date him. also so i have access to his white suburban mother so i have someone to talk about pride and prejudice with. i just have to keep reminding myself that it's 'fucked up' and 'kinda autistic' to view your life as a series of episodes you script and make your friends have character arcs cos you feel like they need character development. he IS a twink too and bisexual but i think hes just going through a phase ngl :/ i think he just wants to get pegged

“This stage is insane.” YinYin gaped, taking in the size of the venue. “Look at all of the set pieces.”
“I didn’t expect anything less for BTS.” Hendery laughed. “But this is crazy.”
The stage at the award show was set up for BTS’s rehearsal, with a massive jungle gym rig, along with couches and tables and other props for what was the most highly anticipated performance of the night.
“Someday we’ll get all of this, right?” She stared out at the thousands of empty seats.
“Yeah, someday.” He sighed. “We should probably go so they can rehearse.”
“I guess so.” She grabbed his hand and started walking off of the stage.
There was a big commotion as BTS came out, flanked by their dancers and managers, and what seemed like hundreds of other staff. They all began taking their place on the jungle gym, most of them sitting at the bottom.
“We have to walk right by that to get back stage.” She whispered. “Should we wait?”
“It’ll be fine.” Hendery counselled. “They haven’t started yet.”
As little comfort as that ways, they tried to be nonchalant as they walked towards the commotion.
“Sumi, we’ll get you at the top, so the intro shot can be on you.” A manager directed.
“Aye, Aye, Captain!”
YinYin glanced up, watching as Sumi began the climb to the top. She’d never had the chance to meet BTS, but everyone in the world knew who they were. Still, seeing Sumi when she wasn’t set up for a performance was something else.
She was in sneakers, joggers and what looked like a pyjama shirt as she cautiously stepped from bar to bar and climbed up. She was sporting a full face of makeup, but it looked more like she’d done it herself than a stage makeup artist.
“Stop staring.” She elbowed Hendery.
“What?” He hissed. “She’s pretty.”
He wasn’t wrong. Though not classically pretty, there was something captivating about her. She wasn’t looking to graceful at the moment, however, as she struggled to climb up the bars.
“Are you good, Soo?” Taehyung shouted.
“Yeah, I’m fine!” She shouted back as she reached the highest point on the jungle gym.
YinYin saw it a split second before it happened. The bar that Sumi stepped onto sunk differently with her weight than the others head, and dropped out from under her foot. Sumi, who’d let go to reach for another bar, was left dangling from one hand. She screamed as she dropped, barely managing to catch her own weight.
“GET SOMETHING TO CATCH HER!” The staff went running.
“Noona, just hang on!” Jungkook started climbing towards her.
“”I’m...I’m trying.” Sumi flailed, managing to grab the bar with her other hand. But there was no where close enough for her to put her feet.
“They’re getting something to catch you, Soo. Just hold on!” RM was standing underneath.
Jungkook stood even with Sumi’s feet, reaching for her while trying to hold himself onto the bars.
“Is he stupid?” YinYin mumbled. “They’ll both fall.”
“The staff were getting something.” Hendery said, his breathing tense. “They’ll catch them.”
YinYin glanced at Sumi’s grip. “They won’t make it.”
“What do you - YINNIE!”
She ignored him as she sprinted for the structure, kicking off her shoes and jumping onto it easily. With no difficulty, she scaled it, slipping between the bars and pulling herself up to where Jungkook was standing.
He leaned out, reaching for Sumi’s leg. “I’ve got you I-”
His foot slipped.
YinYin grabbed the back of his shirt and yanked him back, practically tossing him into the inside of the rig.
“Yah, who are -”
“Just...stay there!” YinYin gave a nod that she hoped was somewhat polite as she climbed the rest of the way.
She jumped up onto the bar above where Sumi was hanging.
“You okay?” She asked.
“Kind of...kind of struggling here.” Sumi had looped her elbow over the bar, but was unable to move anywhere.
YinYin did a quick survey of what was around them.
“Jungkook?”
“Yeah?”
“Get ready!”
“Ready? Ready for wh-Woah!”
YinYin hooked her legs over the bar and hung herself upside down.
“YinYin! What are you doing?” She heard Hendery shouting.
“Can you grab my hand?” She stretched out her arm to Sumi.
“I’ll pull you down!”
“No, it’s fine.” YinYin promised. “Just grab on, I’ll swing you over.”
“Are you sure, I-” Sumi’s grip slipped. “Okay!”
She reached up as much as she could, trying to find YinYin’s hand.
The second their fingers touched, YinYin stretched the extra inch and grabbed Sumi’s wrist with both of her hands.
“Okay, let go!”
She was pretty sure that Sumi didn’t trust her, because honestly she was doubting her plan herself. But with no other option, Sumi let go with her other arm, leaving herself hanging entirely from YinYin’s arms, fifteen feet above the ground.
“Hang on.” YinYin warned.
She’d never actually done this move while holding onto another person, but she forced herself to remain calm. She curled with her abs enough to give her some leverage, and then swung her arms forward.
Sumi swung sideways with them, and would’ve smashed into the bars if Jungkook hadn’t been there.
He grabbed her waist, holding her tightly when YinYin let go.
Sumi found her footing on the bars. “Oh my god.”
“You okay?” YinYin smiled, easily pulling herself up so she was sitting on the bar.
“How did you do that?” Sumi gasped.
YinYin shrugged, scooting over to the main structure and lowering herself onto the bars. “I did some gymnastics as a kid?”
“Some gymnastics? That was-”
“We have a net!”
“Too late!” Sumi shouted down with a laugh. “Spiderwoman here got to me first.”
“YAH! Liu Guanyin!”
YinYin winced, looking down at Hendery. “Yes?”
“Get down here you freak!”
YinYin gave the two BTS members a shrug. “I think I’m in trouble, so I’m going to go.”
“You literally just saved my life and you’re just leaving?” Sumi gasped.
YinYin nodded. “Have fun with your rehearsal. Oh-” She suddenly remembered something. “Hold you weight in your arms. It’s easier to slip if everything is in your legs.”
She smoothly lifted herself past them and scurried down the structure, leaving the two gaping at her, and dropped down right in front of Hendery. “Sorry?”
He smacked the back of her head. “You’re an idiot, you know that?”
She rubbed her head. “It seemed like a good idea at the time?”
“Whatever, let’s go.” He grabbed her elbow. “Don’t you dare tell Kun about this, he’ll kill me.”
“Pinky promise.” She said, letting him lead her off of the stage.
“Hey! Hey, wait!”
They both turned, seeing Jungkook running after them.
YinYin rubbed her elbow and looked sheepishly at Hendery.
He groaned. “Don’t embarrass us.” And then he was gone.
She turned around to face Jungkook as he ran up to her.
“I’m really sorry.” She began, giving a bow.
“You’re...you’re sorry?” He blinked.
“Yeah, so-rry.” She tried to enunciate. “Sorry, I’m still working on my Korean and I-”
“No, I understood you.” He cut her off. “But why are you sorry?”
“I...I grabbed you. And I shouted at you informally.” She was confused.
He laughed. “You saved me from falling, and Sumi too. I just came over to thank you.”
“Oh, well...no problem.” She gave a tiny smile. “I should be-”
“You know my name, but I don’t actually know yours.” He looked at her expectantly, holding out a hand. “I’m Jungkook.”
YinYin cautiously shook his hand. It was covered in tattoos, and dwarfed hers, and she was suddenly very self-conscious of the calluses all over her palm.
“I’m YinYin.”
“YinYin? Is that...Chinese?” He looked worried, as if by getting it wrong he would offend her.
She nodded. “Liu Guanyin. Or Kwon Yerim, if that’s easier. Or Yinnie. Honestly I answer to everything.”
“Guanyin.” He tried out the name. “That’s a really pretty name.”
“Thanks. Ah...Jungkook’s a nice name too?”
She could’ve been crazy, but she thought he might’ve blushed a little bit. Honestly, being crazy sounded more plausible than this entire situation. Why was a member of BTS talking to her?
“Guanyin?”
“What?” She blinked, coming back to her senses. Her name sounded very strange coming from someone speaking Korean.
“I was just wondering how you knew what to do back there.” He pointed back towards the stage. “You didn’t seem worried at all.”
YinYin shrugged. “I didn’t, really. But...ah...you guys didn’t look very good at the climbing.”
“And you are?”
She bit her lip. “I used to do bars a lot in gymnastics. And, I’m very bendy, so it made sense.”
“Strong too.” He nodded. “You pulled me back and held up Sumi.”
“You’re not that heavy.” She said quietly.
“You guys are performing later, right?”
She nodded in confirmation.
Jungkook laughed. “Any chance we’ll see any more of that crazy gymnastics stuff?”
YinYin nodded again. “I have a couple of flips so I-”
“Wait, really?” He grinned. “I was kidding, but that’s awesome. You must be really good.”
She shook her head, looking behind him where a staff member was walking over. “I’m not that good. And I think you need to go rehearse now.”
“Oh, probably.” He sighed. “Can I...do you have Kakao talk?”
“Do I...YES.” YinYin felt for her phone, finally locating it in the zipped pocket of her sweater. “Here.”
In her stupidity, she just handed him the phone.
He didn’t seem bothered, and just opened the Kakao app and quickly scanned his ID.
“Is it okay if I message you sometime?” He asked. “Or if not, that’s okay too. I just...you seem cool so I...Sorry, this is probably really weird and I-”
“It’s okay.” YinYin gave him a tiny smile. “But you should really go.”
“Right.” He sighed, handing her phone back. “See you around, Liu Guanyin?”
She forced herself not to wince at his pronunciation. “See you around.” She agreed.
