FANFIC: Cheating the Dread Wolf by cartadwarfwithaheartofgold

I read this story long ago all in one sitting. It absolutely gripped me, tugged at my heartstrings, and wouldn't let me go. A Cadash/Solas/Varric Tethras rare pair, you have to give this a try.

Rating: E Pairing: Female Cadash/Solas, Female Cadash/Varric, Varric/Solas Chapters: 13/13 Length: 42,657 words Summary: Maria Cadash hung up the Inquisitor's mantle for the Viscountess' crown, but she's unable to stop her desperate and impossible struggle to stop Fen'Harel from destroying the world both her husband and daughter inhabit. The fact Varric, Maria, and Solas are all madly in love with each other just means she may have enough of an edge to win this game.

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by a bunch of awesome people today so would feel guilty if I skipped it! I'm trying to wrap up a bunch of special projects that I can't really share in progress snippets for so I had to kind of dig deep to find something to share! Thank you so much @dreadfutures @greypetrel @ndostairlyrium for tagging me this week!

Here's um... me fooling around with ideas for DA4-era Quinn. I wanted an excuse to draw more Honour Guard Quinn after Yolebrat turned my basic concept into an incredibly beautiful outfit. It's also fun to draw him with the post-Trespasser depression hair and beard.

The idea to give him a spear (which I think I will basically make a boar hunting spear since that's probably what he has experience with) came first, but then as I was starting to draw, I realized that looking at most of my references, Quinn's missing limb caused a balance issue. It's still really important to his character that he doesn't wear a prosthetic and doesn't want one, but having one as a mandatory part of a "uniform" is an interesting idea. I don't think it's going to have any sort of wrist or finger mobility, but mostly exists both to be a counter weight and then I unashamedly decided to steal the idea of the God of War shield gauntlet. To me, that gives the prosthetic limb a simple purpose for defence and very little else - which is probably the only time Quinn could be convinced to wear one.

That's all I really have for the time being! I know I probably should be working on actually finishing his reference sheet instead of continually inventing whole new post-canon designs but... I cannot be stopped. The brain does what it wants.

Fic Recs

a scarlet thread of fate by @rosella-writes. Morrigan/Loghain. 4300 words so far, rated M. This is a work in progress (2 of 4 chapters so far). Rosella writes a deeply thoughtful and complex young Morrigan, wrestling with her complex feelings about her mother, the quest she is determined to complete, and what a sudden change of party means for her.

it ends, or it doesn't by @dreadfutures. Felassan, Merrill, a dog, and some other characters! 45,000 words, rated T. In the post-Trespasser future, a no-longer-Tranquil Felassan and his emotional support dog attend an Arlathvhen, where the former Inquisitor is to wed the Dread Wolf and be presented with a special gift--only to have the festivities interrupted by a horrifying crime. A reluctant Felassan take the lead to solve the mystery, and clear a maligned Keeper's name, bringing to light ancient secrets along the way. Both a thrilling and tightly-paced murder mystery, and a moving and thoughtful piece about personal and cultural identity, confronting the past, and looking to the future. There are also some gorgeous illustrations to go along with this story: @adurna0-art's illustration as part of the Dragon Age Big Bang, this piece by @sbeep and these by @crunchyncrumbly

Her Own Shall Bless Her by @sunspeared. Leliana/Morrigan, and Kieran. 3000 words, rated G. While Kieran hides from his magic lessons with Madame de Fer, Leliana and Morrigan connect again at Skyhold, and Morrigan offers Leliana a glimpse of a memory from her past in the Fade. A gorgeous piece with excellent character writing and lovely attention to detail throughout.

I'm sharing a bit more than a last line. Sort of a last paragraph? I didn't think I'd ever write Mao's origins because I used to believe it took away from her mystery, but then I figured out how to keep it vague while also telling that story XD

Things are Not Good™ in "Ouroboros", but what's new:

The stars were falling too. No, those were the eluvians. Toppling into the void like silver tears. She tumbled and twisted in the nothingness until she saw that moon again, a pair of silver horns piercing the endless night. Directly below her was an eluvian, its mirror facing upward. 

It happened too quickly for her to react--her body hit the surface and she plunged into another world.

Words: 1303 Rating: Teen Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Female Lavellan/Solas Additional Tags: POV Third Person, POV Solas, Present Tense, Introspection, Warrior Lavellan, Angst, Pining, Flirting, Kissing, Fade Tongue Summary: What's an ancient god to do when his desires conflict with his duty? An introspective look at the early parts of Solavellan as Solas realizes he just can't resist her.

The cadence of the music breaks through his introspection, shaky voices lifting in somber tones one by one. It's as if he's witnessing a miracle, seeing her awake and moving on her own, standing awkwardly as the Inquisition sings out their collective relief. It feels easier to breathe, to think clearly. Their eyes meet across the empty space and his resolve falters. If he tells her everything, she will either think him mad or a traitor; it feels too soon to lose her, when he's only now found her again.
