dude i don’t give a shit what anybody has to say, “warm bodies” is fucking lovely. PERIOD. end of discussion. and it is a complete and utter disgrace that netflix is removing it !! the app says it’ll be off Oct 2, so please, watch this adorable ass movie while you can ! 100% you will not regret, and it’s only 1hr 37min, seriously !! the message is so good, and i love that (and i’m gonna try not to spoil it with this but) they touch on the fact that people really can change, but also that there are some that are just too far gone, like the worst kind of people who have completely forfeited their humanity. ugh, seriously, watch it, i’m so in love with this silly little movie. ♥️🧟‍♂️♥️

Folks, do yourselves a favor. Set aside 10 minutes, and read this. This is one of the best pieces of writing I've seen in months. In fact, the last piece I saw that was this good was a previous Cat Valente post from last December.
This piece distilled all my anger and hopelessness about not just AI art but the state of creative industries right now and somehow, by the end, I was crying happy tears. I found reassurance and inspiration and solidarity. This is a symphony in written form. Also she coined "WORDROOMBA" for AI which I think we should all adopt.
An excerpt:
"I find it pretty interesting that when most other advancements in automation have arrived, the sales pitch has usually involved describing ways in which it will improve the lives of every day people as a kind of sugary treat to drown out the taste of a dystopian future. Yeah, yeah, full self driving is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER but everyone will be able to operate their own robo-taxis and get SO MUCH passive income with JUST THEIR CAR it won’t matter (don’t think about truckers or infrastructure or the supply chain)! You don’t want to have to make small talk with cashiers anyway, right? Everyone is going to have their own 3D printer manufacturing plant in their living rooms, so it’s fine if factory work gets Thanos-snapped! Tipping is just so onerous, wouldn’t a robot waiter be super fun and even less social interaction? COME ON HUMAN CONSUMER, GET ON BOARD, I’M LOVIN’ IT.
But with ChatGPT, literally the first thing I heard about it was a Reddit donkey-chorus of HA HA WHITE COLLARS ARE ALL REPLACED GET FUCKED. DOUBLE FOR WRITERS, YOU’RE NOT ENTITLED TO A CAREER JUST DOING BOOKS AHAHAHA CAN’T WAIT TIL IT CAN CODE BETTER AND MAKE YOU HOMELESS, TECHIES.
There was real hostility to some of this sentiment. Maybe. It’s been hard to say who online is a real person and who is a script for some time now. Perhaps it’s because one of the canned responses to other industries falling to automation was: writing code is always safe because someone has to make the robots go. Or that art would be safe because human creativity can’t be automated. But now we’re all seeing that it’s entirely possible that it can, and no one is safe at all. So perhaps there is some schadenfreude at play as a big cultural domino falls and virtually no profession remains a safe bet to get out of the first half of the 21st century intact.
But fucking hell."

One of my besties, who knows my taste in media: fr, you need to play coral island. it is gay AF. like we are reasonably sure the artist drew gay dudes for DeviantArt or something
I've had it on my Steam wishlist for a while, because I love me a "little tasks" game, and I love it when there are more POC in the cast. Then I got me a gift card from some dear folks, and I was like, "You know what? It's time."
THEY. WERE. NOT. KIDDING.
The art is legitimately very, very good. I love the character designs.
EVERYTHING IN THE GAME IS BEAUTIFUL AND PRECIOUS. The music is lovely. The environment is GORGEOUS, and the use of 3D in the landscape of it is really nice without being overwhelming.
There are a whole bunch of middle-aged people in the cast of characters, and I just want to adopt every single one of them. THE MINI-SCENE. OF CARPENTRY MOM. AND CARPENTRY DAD. HELPING YOU SET UP THE STUFF. IN YOUR HOUSE. It destroyed me like a Sailor Moon villain beholding the power of love. Interracial "capture the critters minigames" couple with the "we've been married for 30 years and hey, amirite?! hee-hee, love this one," energy? ADOPTED. Betty. BETTY!!! AdOpTeD. I cannot cope.
Random animals everywhere. Dog named Taco that splashes in the fountain every day, and if you try to talk to Taco, it says, "Taco is busy and can't talk right now." YA GODDAMN RIGHT. Dogs, cats, Fennec foxes, rabbits, a lizard. I don't even know what else. And those are just the pet-type animals I've seen! There's also WILDLIFE all over the island!
All the farming, fishing, mining, tree-chopping goodness you'd expect from this genre. But also OCEAN STUFF. And I didn't know this was so important to me until I had it, but you can RUN IN THE SHALLOW WATER AREAS. Low tide pools, trickling bits of streams with pebbly bottoms and stuff, and also just...what looks like ankle-deep water that has a clear path within a larger body of water. Water's part of the landscape, not an automatic barrier. And that's SO FUCKING COOL.
Anyway, play Coral Island. It's not 100% done, but goddamn. I'm like 8 days into the first season, and I never want to leave.

The Doctors as Astronomical Objects
I'm an astrophysics major, and now it's time to put all this SCHOOL to good use.
First Doctor: Comet. Seems cold at first, but is actually quite lovely once he gets moving.
Second Doctor: A Pile of Dark Matter. Really cool...if you could see* him.
Third Doctor: Flare Star. Exactly what it sounds like.
Fourth Doctor: Hot Jupiter. I don't know, he just gives Hot Jupiter vibes.
Fifth Doctor: Solar Analog. Milquetoast, and not too terribly old. A sort of parent to a bunch of unruly humans.
Sixth Doctor: Irregular Galaxy. Chaotic appearance. Lots of star formation, very bright, might run into you if you give him trouble.
Seventh Doctor: ULX (Ultraluminous X-ray Source). Very bright, but hard to pin down. You never quite know what he's thinking.
Eighth Doctor: Neutron Star. SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN. Very dense, very complicated, and very pretty. Made of pasta.
Ninth Doctor: White Dwarf. He fought his war. Quite honestly, there's not much of him left, but he keeps right on glowing anyway.
Tenth Doctor: AGN (Active Galactic Nucleus). From a distance, all you see is the pretty light show, but there's a black hole at the center of the fun. Given the chance, he will consume everything.
Eleventh Doctor: Red Giant. Very, very old, and getting colder every day. He certainly feels like the end of the line, doesn't he?
Twelfth Doctor: Earth. Deathly cold in some places, deathly hot in others, but ultimately, he's home.
Thirteenth Doctor: Nebula. A star nursery. Endlessly kind.

I'm fashionably late (as always) but today is Fanfic Writers Appreciation Day, so I need to gush about some very incredible, talented people, some of whom I'm very lucky to consider friends. This is probably going to be very lengthy, so if you don't want to see me scream about how amazing these lovely people are, I suggest you keep scrolling.
I've been in fandom for just over 2 years, and I've met some incredible people along the way. Here's what I love about them:
@neurologicaldamage as one of my oldest fandom friends, I have long enjoyed screaming excitedly at each other over new ideas or plot developments in existing fics. It was a thrilling ride waiting for each update of "These Scars of Ours". Your angst is the most exquisite type of pain I will gladly subject myself to over and over again.
@authorjoydragon JOY! My beloved multishipper. You are one of, if not the, biggest reason I have blossomed into the fully fledged multishipping trash that I am today. Your fics are like the sweetest, fluffiest piece of cake I can enjoy. I can't even remember the first fic I ever read from you. I definitely remember "Accidental Rendezvous" though, and I am forever honored you commissioned me for it! @orangepanic you took someone who wasn't even that into the LoK fandom and gave her a whole new OTP while she was on hiatus from Zutara. You are the captain of Irosami, and I am humbled to have become your first mate on this wonderful little ship. I have adored everything that I've read from you so far, but I am deeply enjoying "Hotman" and "Starvation Paradise", as well as your new gift for me, "There Was Only One Bed".
@homeagainrose Not only are you a talented writer, you are also an endless well of knowledge that has become invaluable to me (and many others, I'm sure). "Summer At the Swimming Dragon" is everything, and my excitement is palpable every time you update it. But of course, everything you write is superb (also a big fan of "Hello Sailor").
@asajjvxntress You were one of the first Zutara writers I stumbled across. It was "I've Got A Dark Alley" if memory serves, and definitely contributed to my love of modern AUs. I fell in love with "New Girl" and then watched the show, which is now one of my favorites and it's all because of you! Your output feeds our ship so well, and we are honored to have you.
@myargalargan O Captain, Our Captain of the lovely Sukka ship. Your writing is so darling. Sukka is so wholesome, but somehow it feels even more like that when you write them. You take a side pairing and make them a main pairing. "Our Little Remedy" was much anticipated, and I must thank you for introducing all of us to...you know *wink wink*.
@krastbannert My dude, the way you write is so...hauntingly captivating. Even on your happiest fics, there's always this slight air of melancholy that I just adore. The way you get into a character's head is so amazing, too. It feels like you've cracked them wide open and studied them to understand them as well as you do. "Brave Soldier Girl" captured my attention with just one chapter. @heavensenthearty you give 100% to everything you do with your writing. You have such a poetic way with words. It doesn't feel like first person works often with fanfic, but you always make it work perfectly. @its-sooz-again Where do I begin? The pairings, the topics, the characters you explore are sometimes things I never would have thought of, but when I read you writing (or look at your art) I think, wow, this just makes sense. I've always loved Jet, but you've given him such a profound sense of humanity for me that has deepened my love for our favorite traumatized orphan of war. "The Break in the Bend" lives rent free in my head.
@lone-star-ranger you write some of the best fluff! The way you seamlessly weave canon into AUs, AtLA with LoK, Azula with Star Wars, is incredible. You've gifted me so many wonderful fics and have truly become my first mate on the S.S. Yuten, for which I am always deeply indebted to you. "Perks of Matchmaking" is short and sweet, and I'm forever honored that my gift for you inspired a fic that you gifted to me. I've rambled on long enough, and thank you if you've made it this far. Here are some honorable mentions who deserve all of the praise, but I'll be here all night if I try: @siambre, @marijayne-writing, @barelyaware, @mycomfortblanket, @boomerangguy, @thatoneguy56fanfic, and so many others! Thank you for all that you do.

What's your favorite aesthetic? (Listened to Hole Dwelling. Byron has really good taste)
For myself, anything gothic but specifically the Romantic gothic aesthetic. But I do have a soft spot for cottagecore and the likes.
(And yess!! It is such a good song! I told him and he is so happy you think that :3)
