Yeah, I know I shouldn’t expect people to read my mind. But why should I bother when they expected the same thing of me? And why does it matter anyway? I’ve left the server, it’s done. I was never going to get over it anyway. Also you seriously read my vent posts and thought “ah yes this person is totally in a good state of mind to read my reply and not just interpret it as a big ‘fuck you your feelings don’t matter’”. It’s not asking people to mind read if my vent messages are clearly already blowing things out of proportion. Thanks for making me feel even worse about the whole thing :D

I just want to say, that I agree with almost all of your Critical Role takes and you have 1000% better and more nuanced takes than all of Twitter and I greatly appreciate it! The takes over there regarding Liliana and the gods are just wild and you bring some much needed sanity to the content I see

I hope you don't mind because I've been thinking about this re: the Twitter takes but the thing about Twitter and Liliana specifically that I've seen is that there's this really bizarre fetishization of like, the fact that she is a (white) southerner (this also weirdly happened for Birdie though to a much lesser extent, and the person who spearheaded that wasn't even American so I have to assume this is a specific corner of Twitter Culture At Large). And like, here's the thing. It's true that fantasy tends to be very British in its accents, and it's also true that accents in a fantasy world are used to convey the same things we'd assume in our world - RP British for educated, southern American for rural, Cockney for rougher types, etc.

It's also true that laying the exact socioeconomic parallels from our world onto, say, Liliana and Orym (who reads to me as non-regional but I, like Liam, am from the Northeast originally) is a recipe for disaster. Or rather, it's not, but it is going to reaffirm your own biases, some of which are dangerous to reaffirm.

There was a popular post on Tumblr a while back, probably not long after Trump was elected, of someone talking about how they were convincing a relative with the confederate flag towards socialism by appealing to the idea of "isn't in unfair how uneven wealth distribution is and how a small group has so much control" and a number of people were rightfully like "uh, maybe you should focus on the racism" or "hey OP ask your relative who they think that small group in control is because I'm getting a really bad feeling they're going to say it's The Jews." And I feel that a lot of the empathy for Liliana from those spaces feels like that OP. Or in other words: I get that you see your relatives in Liliana. Unfortunately, I cannot help but see me and mine in Orym.

You see someone trapped by circumstance and desperation in a dangerous ideology. I see the fact that I haven't gone to a synagogue in easily 6-7 years without there being a security guard present and usually, the doors locked with someone looking through the window to let you in, and then in the sanctuary there's been an installation so that you can quickly bar all the doors in case an alarm goes off or you hear shots in the lobby.

I think there's a great case for seeing yourself in Imogen, who is in a painful struggle with the fact that her mother does love her very much but is in dangerously deep and has done a number of incredibly terrible and harmful things. That latter point is important, incidentally; I get that cult members sometimes rise through the ranks but all but the leader are being manipulated. But the fact remains that a brainwashed person can still commit atrocities, and in this story, they have, many times over. It's especially true because like...sure, plenty of people are like "I lost my relative to a cult and I just want them back and I couldn't harm them," but also, as we've seen, this cult can and will harm Imogen! Plenty of people are also like "yeah I gotta cut them off, it hurts but unfortunately my horribly bigoted and violent relative, while a victim of brainwashing, is a threat to me too." It's not even the full picture of the Temult side of things, let alone the picture that includes the Vanguard's victims.

I also think the Southern gatekeeping is unhinged because it's like. guys there's QAnon members and other cults across the country; the Confederate flag example above was actually notable in that OP wasn't even Southern so you couldn't even write the flag off as deeply misguided heritage but rather was explicitly being used as a hate symbol. It's awfully presumptive to assume all southerners have the same experience (especially since the Temults are portrayed, physically and in accents, as white southerners, not that the experiences of white southerners aren't also incredibly varied). It's awfully presumptive to assume that people find Liliana threatening because they have no personal experience with people like her; often, it's because they have all too real experience with people like her, and it says something even worse about you if you can say "but you guys, I see me and my family in Liliana" when people are telling you that they see them and their families in Orym. I would not, personally, publicly admit that one's empathy extends to the people who remind you of your family but runs out before it reaches their victims. Nor would I publicly admit that I assume everyone who disagrees with me clearly has never had personal experience with this topic.

I should also note that, as I've noted a number of times before, that these are fictional characters and not real people. Twitter seems to be really fucking bad at grasping that. Like, yes, this is the other thing; I do not think that OP should kill their Confederate flag-toting relative, whereas if Imogen did so to Liliana I'd be like "hell yeah." The former is a real person who I do hope gets deprogrammed, just, you know, maybe adjust those priorities; the latter is a fictional character in a story.

Xuan wasn't the type to be easily intimidated or frightened by anyone. In fact, seeing how people tried their very best at inducing fear into those they thought as weak and submissive, kind of amused him. It just showed how weak the human character could actually be at times, since more often than not the very same people who sought to impose their strength and power over others through sheer brute force were, in fact, just some scarred little souls hidden underneath shallow husks.

That's why when Teru attacked him, pinning him to the wall, Xuan didn't sketch the slightest of reactions. He could see right through this feisty man's front and he could tell from the very first glance he threw at him that night that Teru was the submissive type, someone who will appear as stubborn and tough, but will kneel and crumble easily under his boot. Their positions of power were soon going to switch drastically, it was just a matter of time and Xuan didn't feel like rushing this little 'game' of cat and mouse he'd set for himself, at least for a while.

With a slight snort, the raven haired gave the younger another defiant look, before speaking in the calmest of tones, sure of the fact this will piss him off even further. "I think the only wasted one here is you, since you're literally chasing after someone who made a fool out of you in front of your entire group. Shouldn't you be trying to save face and find some drunken idiot to smash on the pool table instead? Or could it be that you actually have a degradation kink and all that humiliation actually turned you on?" Another jeering grin. "Sorry, but I don't mingle with pathetic little hoes. You'll have to do much better than this to impress me."

As an emphasis on how 'unimpressed' he was, Xuan then feigned a yawn and leant back against the wall, feeling the pressure applied by the other's arm onto his chest tighten. "Bold of you to assume I wouldn't be able to handle you, princess! Also, I am curious as to what do you mean by my kind? Do you, perhaps, dare compare me to those lousy fucks inside the bar, who spend their days pimping bitches and ordering idiots around to do their biddings, while they sip on cheap wine and sit all day with a cane stuck up their asses?" Raising an eyebrow, Xuan then tilted his head to the side. "I'm sorry, but in this case, your assumption is wrong. I might be of the refined kind, but trust me, unlike those idiots who try pretending they are something they are not, I actually live up to my status as leader of my organization."

In just a split second, without much of a struggle, the man then used his foot to kick the succubu's legs in one swift motion before he'd even be able to react, just enough that he could make the man lose his balance, before freeing himself and applying three more sturdy hits with his hand and elbow to Teru's side, back and neck, only to finish by grabbing the younger's hand and painfully twisting it to his back, pushing him face first into the wall. The green eyed bastard was soo quick that there was barely even time for an outsider to register when and what happened. "Who's all lame now, hmm?" Back to his conceited cocky tone, Xuan then leant against him to whisper in the younger's ear. "Here's a pro tip: never judge a book by its cover. Your little show of bravery was fun to watch, but unfortunately, you still have room for lots of improvement."

There is no wrong way to enjoy TTRPGs, as long as everyone at the table is having fun

I just saw a couple of people tagging some of my latest posts with concerns on how they are scared to DM TTRPGs because they can’t do battlemaps, so let me put a quick post together about this:

There is no wrong way to enjoy TTRPGs, as long as everyone at the table is having fun. Fun is the keyword here. Is everyone enjoying the game? Then you’re doing it right. Doesn’t matter how little or how much you want to have at your table. Doesn’t matter which system are you playing. As long as people are enjoying themselves, you’re doing it right.

This means a lot of things. Maybe your group loves playing by-the-book and never homebrews. That’s absolutely right. Or maybe your group has almost developed an entire system of their own after years of homebrewing. That’s also good- If everyone at the table like it and it is fair for everyone, you’re playing the game right!

Some people love super crunchy games filled with numbers and strategy and no RP. If everyone at the table enjoys that, then you’re doing it right. Maybe you like very deadly games and meatgrinders- If people at the table like that, it’s absolutely valid. Or maybe you just want to do RP and develop characters with none of the numbers. If that’s what your group wants, congrats! That’s also valid.

Some people love to painstakingly prepare every little detail and has 10 pages of notes for a session. It takes time, but it makes DMing easier for some. If it works for you, do it! Or maybe you like to go completely improv- If it suits your style and it works for the table, that’s also fantastic

Format-wise, you can play TTRPGs in many ways. Maybe you just want to go full theatre of mind- Absolutely valid. Maybe you don’t want to think about battlemaps but still need a way to make it work- I’ve seen people use emojis on discord to build a semblance of a battlemap. I’ve seen people use excel. People use google sheets. People use drawing software. If it works for your group, it’s good enough. Or maybe you play irl and want to go all in with painted minis and terrain, or the VTT equivalent of having fully animated maps full of spell effects and stuff. That’s also absolutely valid! Why wouldn’t it be?

There has been a lot of talking about the right TTRPGs to enjoy, and how to enjoy them, which has probably risen because of the OGL and people suddenly moving systems or finding new groups, or even people finding out animated spells are a thing. And of course, there’s some people willing to police how others have fun at their tables. Which- Let’s be entirely honest, if you see someone whine about “theatre of the mind sucks you’re just lazy” (or “you don’t need a fancy animated battlemap”, on the contrary) it’s better to just ignore the fuck out of them and move on. If it works for your table, go and enjoy exactly that. That’s what matters.

A lot of times people choose to play TTRPG one way or another to accommodate to their groups needs and their own, and trying to say what is “wrong” can easily fall into a weirdly ableist discourse. For example, I have a speech impediment: It’s gotten better over the years, but lengthy improv descriptions are a struggle. And so, I’d rather either prepare extensive descriptions in my notes, or draw a battlemap that puts my players into what I envision without a 5-minute narration that will burn my mental RAM. Someone with ADHD may need extensive notes to not go off the rails- Or maybe a dyslexic person can’t use notes too well and prefers to rely on improv. Aphantasia is a thing and some people can’t just imagine out of a text description, and they may prefer to see an animation instead of hearing someone describe it. The beauty of TTRPGs is that they’re wildly variable, and people have found endless ways to enjoy them- and adapt them to their needs.

So, for whoever needs to hear this, for whoever found some idiot on the internet telling you how to play your own home game: If your group is having fun the way you play the game, you’re doing it right. Don’t be scared to try out methods that work for you and your group, and adapt it to individual preferences, needs, and use whatever accommodations you need to make your life easier. Having fun is the objective, the way you get there is up to you.

👍 standard price for the expansion size. pleasant surprise! i was put off at seeing only a $5-10 discount from prev expacs, but i also wasn't expecting 3 maps and such sweeping changes to combat. if it includes living world unlocks, i think $25 is very fair.

👍 if i'm understanding the rune changes right, they sound solid. while certain stat sets may be collapsed together, i think that moving the current 6th rune perk into its own distinct slot will lead to more build customizability, not less, while cutting down on tp costs as a barrier of entry to endgame group content.

👍 "silent surf" is a gorgeous & highly vertical map. i'm sure the new zones will look and feel good.

👎 i have worries, based on the gyala episodes' failure to strongly tie the new oni threat to the end of the dragon cycle or the commander's canonical interests/motives & the amount of goofy filler, lore fudging, & fanservice in "what lies within," about the story's ability to follow up on itself. i think upcoming story releases will try to appeal to new players who haven't played the aurene storyline live and have less loyalty to the existing cast of npcs, while appeasing vet players with sloppy gw1 tie-ins and lazy answers to long-memed-about fan questions like "where's zojja" and "kessex wizard tower????" and that it’s likely to hurt itself in its confusion.

🥴 i hope that i'm proven wrong here, like i was by core eod story, and don't get me wrong i'm into wizards & demons, but after the false promises of "what lies beneath" and IBS i'm feeling... hm! well.

🤨❓ decoupling elite specs from their signature weapons. here's where i get complicated.

IT WILL BE FUN. like. let's just get that out of the way it will be fun. i'm very excited to see all the new playstyles that become possible, a broadening of the endgame instanced pve meta, a big bang of rp builds tailored to character lore, new animations!! IT WILL BE FUN.

but i have some bigtime problems with it. first, i think anet has always fallen short of paying back vet players who've invested the most time, energy, and money to a game that gets continuously cheaper, easier, and more accessible. cheap and accessible are good things! high difficulty should be opt-in! and i don't in any way resent new players for having a better experience getting into the game. that said, the elite specs & their associated new weapon proficiencies were a major selling point of the prev expacs, right alongside story, maps, and gliding/mounts. it feels scammy for anet to now say, "remember when you preordered heart of thorns, full price, as soon as it was announced because you were THAT excited to play a guardian with a bow?? silly." the value loss here is not insignificant, and not reimbursed in any way.

& if access to the signature weapons is no longer an incentive to unlock and play an elite spec, there needs to be another incentive. those trait lines need to be powerful, individual, and on-point with lore and personality. that's the trade off. and right now, that is not at all the zeitgeist of gw2 balance patches. for a few years now, balance has been homogenizing specs, spreading out q/alac and heal capabilities while methodically deboning what's unique, potent, and vexing about the devs' least favorite classes: chrono boon support, mirage evasion, berserker dps, etc. without their signature weapons, what do these specs have going for them? what's their appeal? what's their vibe? where's their place in the world lore or the meta? opening up weapon selection, without reversing the trend of 2022-23 balance patches, accelerates the specs' decay into sameyness, and may make some completely obsolete. i'm not okay with that. keep guildwars weird.

however, i am hopeful that the change will address another of my beefs with balance, which is that in the current meta many elite specs are expected not to use their signature weapon at all. my feeling is & has always been, if i wanted to play D/D thief i wouldn't have trained specter, a spellslinger class made for scepter. if i didn't like axe, i never would've been attracted to mirage. so i hope the new armory system will put some of those back into play.

DEAR ALICE ... Okay, so because I'm going to scream if I see one more person acting like people mad about the bbh and leo's room situation are abelist--

This fandom really needs to learn about RP Etiquette, and honestly, if I can be rude, BBH needs to learn about it as well, given that off the top of my head I can think of three times non native English speakers have had an issue with him because of him not being conscious of the fact that English is not their native language and they are using it for HIS SAKE.

But that is another rant for another time, and honestly one I think none native English speakers can make a lot better than me.

So, when you're doing lore in a group roleplaying setting, you need to remember that other people are ALSO doing lore in that setting and that their lore is JUST AS important as yours, if not at times (say during points when the story is focusing on them. ex when people are just getting their new eggs or jaiden and roier during the trying to get to bobby stream post his death).

Yes, you can argue BBH taking Bagi into Leo's room is IC because he's in a bad headspace / he has memory issues, but Q!BBH isn't a person. Q!BBH isn't real. Q!BBH is a doll. A character being played by a person who DOESN'T have memory issues, and should have known that making this choice was bad player etiquette.

And people are allowed to be mad at the player and / or at the character's choices without hating people that have memory problems???? and the idea that one equals the other is genuinely insane???

I was excited to start working on this prompt for @khoc-week as soon as the prompts dropped, specifically due to an AU RP group called Army of the Roses (started by @/pig-warship, sorry boo didn't want to ping you to death-) I've been involved in since 2019!!

To all my homies that are/were involved I love y'all this fun ditty is dedicated to you!! :)

If you've seen a bunch of my art in the Kingdom Hearts OC tags as of late, about 99% of it tends to be tagged with the name of the group, as to me it is like a brain eating amoeba that's Iliana (And Penna and Mando-) shaped (affectionate).

But before I delve too deep, let's get into the prompt!

Day 4 - Alternative Universes

I'm not gonna go too far into the lore of the AU because we'd be here all day, but I'll give a sprinkling for context!

The AU takes place hundreds of years after the events of Kingdom Hearts in a time where names like Sora and Xehanort have mostly been forgotten, but the events are still at least remembered to some degree. Places best known as hubs have also long since been abandoned and forgotten, turned to rubble under the weight of centuries of dwindling population. Traverse Town, even, is no longer the temporary sanctuary it once was.

Sora's Power of Waking kinda screwed up some fabric of reality stuff to the point where it opened a rift between universes, so there's a new (not very new by this point, anyway, unless you're a native to universe Alpha with no interaction beyond your world) universe with all sorts of places to explore!!

It's in this new universe where most of Iliana's character development is taking place, so buckle in for that.

Iliana's journey into the unknown follows the exact same story beats as her canon-compliant timeline, however she doesn't make ties with any canon characters this go around (because they're all long dead), so she mostly has to face the current state of affairs alone... ish.

Traverse Town is pretty much a ghost town at this point, with her uncle Russell being one of the very few remaining there, so her stay this time around feels a bit isolated. She starts off being a bit more closed off than she already was, which definitely will not have wonderful development later, no siree!

Her spontaneous journey to find her home is the same, but her chase through space ends a bit differently. Igni's Heartless (we didn't know it was her Heartless yet, well "we" being everyone but me) murks her in Traverse Town this time, her uncle manages to fight the beast off by himself, unfortunately paying witness to his niece's demise at the same time (sorry king), and instead of becoming Reixen she actually has her own Nobody named Anilxia, which I will explain why in due time.

Anilxia was a grimy, very hostile shadow of her former self, fevered by rage, spite, and insomnia. She was almost a danger to Russell, yet he still treated her with tolerant kindness and respect. Like a rehomed, antisocial feral cat.

Frankly, to him this was much better than having her dead and gone like the rest of his family seemed to be, she was their last hope essentially. He had no idea what to do without her, really. So he started working behind the scenes to figure out how to get her back, while making sure to keep her close and in check. Did he go so far as to ground her from going anywhere without him? Absolutely. You can't trust a moody Nobody-

She stayed for (less than?) a year with Russell in this form, in the meantime piecing things together she had noticed were super suspicious about the few memories she was regaining. It all festered into tons of internal darkness that was feeding her own Heartless, which she eventually found skulking around town wherever she went.

Knowing she might be met with some end soon, and in a desperate attempt to preserve what she found out before it could be taken from her again, she wrote her notes down in a... weirdly magical journal, then persued her Heartless through a rift that led them both to the other universe where she recompleted herself... and immediately got hit by a city bus- Jk jk... unless?

She was taken in briefly by a kind stranger who~ I think I wrote to be this universe's reborn Alto! In an AU-canon-compliant diary, anyway- Then she, not knowing how to get back home from here, and with nothing but the clothes on her back and a few weird misc. items, decided to stay in this new city until she could find her own answers to things that were plaguing her. Memories she couldn't, well, remember and all that.

Her only company for a month was Iris and Irene, who in this timeline were... suspiciously much more hostile, and absent at times. She assumed the memory wipe was affecting them as well, so she thought her best bet was to pick up the pace on her personal research both into her world and her memories. She had to juggle some awful jobs at the same time, so suffice to say she was having an awful time.

An answer came to her in the form of a flyer for a mercenary group named, you guessed it, the Army of the Roses, so she packed up her awful little apartment, sold her lease for pretty cheap, and moved to their home base! With some surprising encouragement from Iris and Irene as well, hmm...

In the jump between universes, and probably even before that with her death, she lost her ability to use her Keyblade. That didn't stop it from reforming as a clunky scythe, however, so no need to worry about that... Wait, it's not her Keyblade why is this thing orange and feathery- She picked up using it pretty well, so what harm does a little cosmetic aesthetic change do?

She seemed to fit in perfectly with all the wackos (affectionate) that live there, however...

She started off as a total shut-in, stayed in her room most of the time, barely spoke to the team unless she almost got caught speaking to Iris and Irene or had to actively contribute to missions, lurked in the kitchen at night to avoid interacting... But eventually after a few months of being there she came out of her shell enough to disclose her ongoing problem with her missing home world to one of the leaders.

Of course, that was a backburner issue. They were dealing with bigger things at the time, so one measly personal problem could wait, right?

At one point, that same leader took her and (her new lil bro) another teammate to search for clues, turning up with at least something. She was just having trouble putting it together, like someone didn't want her to figure it all out... Days of almost getting there but coming up short with her memory out of wack did a number on her confidence, so to her dismay she still needed extra help.

With the, some reluctant some voluntary, assitance of the leaders, they managed to, after some harsh poking, confront the now revealed main concern, Igni, and found the leads they needed to bring it back from the brink of disappearance. (The leads were boobytrapped, obvi, if they weren't then it'd be too easy-) From here on, though, Iris and Irene fall suspiciously silent.

Now, I had the absolute pleasure to be at the forefront of Iliana's Character Chapter, a special event where she could (almost) wrap up her character arc and I could make everyone cry! :)

I mentioned it a bit in my KHOC Week posts about Igni in 2021, as it was in progress at the time when I was making them! I thought it would add some nice flavor to her posts and add context for my reasons to talk about her, but it was all very vague so I wouldn't spoil much about the CC itself, so it may have been a... rough read-

We've long since moved on from it as a whole, but it was really fun to host and is forever one of my favorite things I've ever gotten to contribute!!

So, contrary to the canon-compliant timeline where I'm quite a ways away from ever reaching the grand end of her personal story, here we finally got to experience it in motion, but... good golly gee my pals really bent it beyond repair, thank goodness I am pretty decent at improv-

To summarize: They sure did find the Hills of Progress! Y'know the journal I mentioned earlier? Yeah, it was sealed in that.

Along the way they met some interesting faces, relived some horrendous relationships, immediately adopted a very good frog obsessed boy, and backhanded a twink who deserved it (my favorite part tbh). Things happened early and in the strangest ways possible, someone almost died (3 different people at 3 different times, it was a mess) and one nose was broken (Iliana got punched super hard at supersonic speeds so Igni would get out of the driver's seat, my 2nd fav part tbh).

But the important turning point (aside from a hug and a later interaction before Igni got Galeem'd 2: Electric Boogaloo) I wanted to talk about was when they crossed the threshold into Iliana's heart. They were there specifically to confront Igni and hopefully remove her permanently, but she was making it virtually impossible to find her. She's annoying like that.

They turned to their next best bet: Iliana's "heart parasites," Iris and Irene. They hoped the two would be more than helpful in finding Igni, but to their dismay... they were not. In fact, they refused and stalled for time, arguing with the leaders and outing themselves for what they really were in what was probably the most heart wrenching betrayal the whole CC...

They were never real to begin with, just illusions made up by Igni to keep tabs on and steer Iliana in the right direction. Visages she stole from the lifetimes she lived, people that did exist but don't anymore. Mere façades of what she thought a lonely child needed like the countless others she observed before, instead turned to a reminder that she can and will be disposed of eventually, to keep her in line.

Her whole life was revealed to be a lie right then and there, and that crack in her heart is gonna be very hard to repair. Time may not be able to heal all wounds on this one. Her trust? Shattered.

It also charted her course way differently, and with them being fake she was 100% herself when her Nobody stepped into the limited limelight. She was, in fact, truly alone the whole time. Well... Aside from Igni, but she doesn't count.

You can imagine Igni's defeat was bittersweet that day, she ticked off one too many people so it was time to get rid of her for good. She became Igni goo and was Baja/Biden/Flavor blasted to kingdom come, it was GREAT!!! Finally, a deserved win, since they had gone through so much in a span of two days, it was a relief!

Iliana's memories of Iris and Irene in this timeline are forever soiled, and because of it her already existing trust issues are much worse, but (to her dismay) her new found family is there to help work her through it!

The other downside is that she's got some guilt to work through, as well as her personal family problems and her now worsened Igni Disease™ (it has a name, I just think calling it that is funnier-).

And of course her being her you can try to pry these issues out of her and into the open, it may just take a crowbar and a lot of elbow grease. Or a bribe... or perhaps just a moment of vulnerability, of which she has few... Or her brother disclosing her personal life for the nth time. Either way, I wish you luck-

On the bright side of this whole mess, she has her Keyblade back in a more ethical way thanks to her new dad/big bro figure so HA, suck on that Igni-

The Keyblade part is not really a win in her eyes, but perhaps she'll warm up more to the idea when her self esteem repairs itself.

Not gonna lie, that self doubt of hers is strong enough to be a source of weird funky happenings...

But that's a thought for later!

Hey, this is kind of a weird ask, but I'd rather go to here than Reddit or another group finding website first (I like it here better, I like the people here more, and I know I have a cluster of people who like D&D here).

Me and two of my current players (Ellerian and Kelogul, if you were curious) are looking for more people to play with in some one-off sessions. We thought about this back when the whole OneD&D debacle was going on, but we wanted to try looking into some other games with different people.

I'd also like to try running an Out of the Abyss campaign again. I began running one with Kelogul and Ellerian where we went hardcore survival (everyone started naked and you had to find your materials/craft your own stuff/find your own material components) and it was a lot of fun, but we wound up dropping it because I got too busy. One day I'd also like to run Rime of the Frostmaiden as well, and I wouldn't mind running CoS again... but all of that is extremely long-term. There's also joining From the Mist/Into the Horizon as well, but again, I'd like to just try things out with one shots first.

General information about us and how we run things (below the cut, because this is already long enough):

We don't use voice. We could if it's a huge hurdle to get over, but we've been just text based for 3+ years at this point so we're used to it. If you want a kind of example of what that looks like, here's a screenshot of one of our sessions of From the Mists.

We use Foundry VTT. I've already paid for it and you connect to it similar to roll20, so it should involve no extra work on your part. I also already have all the books and a google drive to share them, so there should be no additional costs there. If you need help learning how to use Foundry, we are more than happy to teach.

We tend to be higher on the RP and story side than average, though I'm not sure how much of this would really come across in one-shots where characters are more throw away.

We're located in the CST time zone. The date would likely be on Sunday, as it's the only day other than Saturday we can all get together (and Saturday is when From the Mists/Into the Horizon happens). We're flexible to run anytime from 11 am CST to 11 pm CST.

We are in our late 20s/mid 30s.

We are LGBT+ friendly (I'd hope so, I'm a dude married to a dude)

We've been playing for 3+ years (almost) every week at the same time on Saturday. The only time we've missed sessions have been family tragedies, medical issues, and planned vacations, so between the three of us we're pretty stable and consistent.

In general we're looking for 2-3 additional people (4 players total would be perfect, 5 would be stretching it but I could manage). If there's a lot of interest somehow, I'd also be more than happy to cycle people around so people get a chance to play. I would likely be DMing, but I'm also not hardcore bent on it so if someone else wants to dip their toes in it I'm more than happy to step aside.

I’ll explain the basic of the mechanics under the cut

So within the discord there’ll be different sections available to you, based on your character (if you join without a character you’ll have access to the general channels but none of the specific ones)

There will be sections for basic worldbuilding information, and there will be different channels based off of how much your character would know

We’ll also have channels for each location with a player character in it—regions, countries, cities, etc. There will be options there for role play, if you want to engage with other characters on your own, but this is also how i’ll communicate plot hooks

NOW TO THE INFODUMPING! Sry not sry you asked for this I’m just gunna go full ham. (I figured out how to add a read more link! hah!)

OK SO! I’ve got so many! Top fav is my ones for Crowbar of course. I love making his juju a sentient being and having it effect him negatively by applying sensitivity for timeline shenanigans on him. This also means Crowbar is weak against temporal movement like teleportation. He’s fine for the most part if the Doc teleports him with green sun magic but if Droog does it, it gets him sick and dizzy for a bit.

Oh! Also that Crowbar has lots of hobbies, but every single one is a benefit to his Felts. He’s incapable of doing activities selfishly and has a hard time detaching himself from his work. Expressing himself creatively? Sure! How about he gets into woodworking and architecture so he can repair walls, doors, and clocks whenever they break around the manor. Taking time off to zone out and relax? No problem! He unironically loves doing paperwork because the exactness of the wording comfort him and he can keep business flowing. (He secretly collects the small manuals that comes with most products because finding grammar mistakes in the terms and conditions amuses him.) He even has a mild special interest in car detailing and cleaning so that the getaway cars for everyone are in top condition, and so that the manor is clean and free of evidence.

Oh and that reminds me that I love to hc that the manor (I make it sentient) looooves Crowbar the most out of any member since he’s the only one that takes care of it. The manor’s architecture shifts constantly to confuse intruders and such, but for Crowbar it shifts to get him to wanted destinations faster. If Crowbar wants to get to the west wing from the east wing, only Itchy has a chance to close the distance faster than him. Ah! It’s so funny! I’m smiling about it now! Aaaa I love them!

And! And and I love to hc Crowbar being super dense in matters of love. In the server (there is rp and I am the dedicated Crowbar rper) I make sure to have him make the perfectly wrong assumption any time someone falls for him bc Cro mentally cannot comprehend someone being attracted to him- OH THAT REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER ONE! I hc that to us irl humans Crowbar is the most normal and even the sexiest felt, but in leprechaun standards Crowbar is like, the ugliest leprechaun ever. Leprechaun standards value weird shapes, weird chaotic habits, and the scrungle vibe, and Crowbar is intimately aware he doesn’t embody any of it, so it’s just like. “Um. I know damn well I don’t make an effort to strive towards beauty standards, so,,, why are you falling for me again? Surely this is a joke? This, isn’t what people are supposed to do.”

On that note though, I think Crowbar has a hard time with charms as a system. He’s effected by it and feels it occasionally, but he does much better with quadrants and carapacians in general. He doesn’t like talking about it with his men because he’s scared they are going to make fun of him for it, but they probably already know what with his little Snowman crush.

Hot take I could do with or do without Snowbar. It really depends on who I’m roleplaying with. For the most part I love it because it emphasizes the fact that Crowbar is just really fucking weird compared to other leprechauns. He’s orderly, he’s bi, he likes things to be a certain consistent way, and there’s nothing be can do about it. It just makes me feel warm inside. If my rp partner doesn’t like the ship though I loooooove to make Snowman and Cro like, slumber party pals. They engage in the tea and girl talk! Wlw and mlm! Snowy is the man’s rock and sense of reason in a sea of idiots.

Though hm, now for other Felt. I do like the idea that Itchy actually has garbage reaction time and is in a state of single focused mania a lot. My mans has trouble sleeping and knowing his environment and it can take a toll on his mind, but when he does sleep his metabolism is too fast for such a long sleep and he has to go into a hibernation state! Like a hummingbird! (That’s @naturallydark ‘shc for the Itchy they rp in the server) aaaa good stuff. Oh and I love to think Itchy is chronically bored and has big issues with being under-stimulated, which is why he is friends with most of the felt and will bother them. The company makes him happy! And when he’s not being a lil fuck, he does know how to cheer the majority of the Felt up when they are down.

On the flip side I love imagining that Doze actually has insane reaction time, his world just slows when he’s stressed, which doesn’t happen as often as folks might think. I imagine Doze’s biggest fear is getting irreversibly maimed so his powers activate during physical combat, but other than that he’s a pretty normal dude. Probably the type to catch a bunch of dishes and have everything land on the tray again cartoon style. Definitely thinks he’s the coolest guy in the room (civilized edition)

Fin is just cute. Man just, swims in the dumbest places. You can never predict when he will be in a body of water. Kinda hates when anyone dumps dead bodies in the canal and will drag them out of the water to toss to the lusi (lusus’s?) wandering the desert when he can.

Clover and Snowman get along really well. Like, Snowman thinks Clover is strangely charismatic, but this is almost purely because the universe loves Clover.

Anything @ontdah does with his Die makes me happy. Just. Anything. Love that angsty man.

Snowman can absolutely take damage without it effecting the rest of the universe. (I despise the fact that the prominent badass female character can’t roughhouse) like, she is a universe avatar. She can just choose to be an avatar of some useless far off planet, she just likes the power trip with being able to stop any fight she’s in by just standing there. Only the Felt know this but they keep it a safely guarded secret and they still respect the rules of it. After all she likes having star freckles when she embodies everything so she actually is in that vulnerable state most of the time. It’s like, her shitty personal version of a Russian roulette, but with the lives of every single person alive. She’s a massive troll. In the most dignified way possible. Stitch thinks she’s crazy, Crowbar finds her fascinating in her selfishness.

Stitch is one of the rarer less chaotic leprechauns, and he gets along pretty well with Crowbar. For the most part he’s the dad figure of the felt despite not being the oldest, and will let any of them silently hang out with him if the fucked up ness of their life becomes too much. The official sawbones, and less official therapist of the lads. Makes sure they have everything they need to handle any mental stuff they struggle with. He helps Itchy with his adhd, works with Matchsticks (more often) and Cro (less often) on their ptsd, helps lots of them with anxiety, rationalizes through Clover’s survivors guilt, and even has chats with Snowy when she’s feeling existential. He is incredibly emotionally intelligent and likes to use that ability for good, however gruff it comes across.

Sawbuck is the nice fuck boi of the Felt and you cannot convince me otherwise. Clover may be the most charismatic over all, but Sawbuck definitely has the most game. The guy is a dream boat, an absolute hunk. Sawbuck is the sexiest man alive and everyone in the felt (no matter how reluctantly) agrees with it.

Matchsticks is a pyromaniac and is constantly curbing his own urges to just burn everything to the ground, timeline included. He’s a REALLY nice guy, but the urges get to him sometimes. (Hc from @ontdah )He has troubles staying present at times and keeps multiple fires burning around the manor for convenience and for reminiscing. Crowbar has to tell Matchsticks when meetings will be hours or even days in advance or else he might not be able to include him. The guy just, travels a lot and is hard to find. His jokes cheer everyone up, but it’s clear he’s not always happy. Stitch and Matchsticks spend the most time with each other. Stitch has personally guided Matchsticks into being more present, but it’s a constant process.

Eggs is fantastic at retelling heists in engaging ways. If anyone wants a retelling of events, they tend to go to Eggs, even if Crowbar has the better memory. It’s more entertaining that way.

Biscuits makes food for the Felt. Without him they would all immediately starve. Some felt know how to cook, but only Biscuits knows how to portion meals to feed all of them correctly. He’s also their silent nutritionist and will give you a look of disappointment if you ever come into the manor with, ugh, FROG FORBID Store. Bought. Sweets. He has standards. Most of his free time is spent in the kitchen and he is the only Felt besides Crowbar who is allowed an allowance for groceries.

Quarters is a gun freak and gives all of them names and backstories like iron dolls. If you handle a gun incorrectly in front of him he’s going to very passive aggressively judge you until you piss him off enough to drag you back into gun training. He taught most every member how to use firearms (except for Stitch, Matchsticks, and Clover) but he has made every single one of them take a firearms course, hosted by himself of course. Snowman and Quarters have long bouts of dark humor involving weapons sometimes too. They started being friends after he taught her how to use a sniper rifle.

Cans is Crowbar’s bean bag and they are bros. They cuddle lots and talk about stuff. I imagine Cans has almost an enthusiastic butler sort of relationship with Crowbar and Crowbar can do nothing to refute this. After many, many, months and years of Cans comforting Crowbar and being there for him and helping him out of risky situations, Crowbar has succumbed to trusting the man fully. Whenever Crowbar is having troubles sleeping he will simply drag himself over to Cans’s room and nap with him. They are cute.

Not necessarily a peeve but more of a turn off, but I really don't like it when someone has the repeat energy of 'No one would want to rp with me, I don't see why I bother,' 'Did anyone miss me? No? Okay' etc. It probably sounds petty of me, but I don't like it. It dismisses the efforts of those who have been trying to connect to you, and I come onto tumblr to have fun, so I don't want to come here and feel bogged down. The energy actually disheartens me and brings my own mood down because I end up sympathizing with them too much. For the sake of my own mentality, I end up distancing myself.

muse preference ( fluff, angst, smut ) — I enjoy fluff and angst a lot. Smut... depends... on the muse... and relationships... and how comfortable I am with the mun. best time to write — I'm finding myself to be more active in the night hours, so the PMs. I do tend to be high inspiration in the AMs, but i'm usually at work or low energy. So that's when I spend the time thinking of what i'll write and then stow those ideas for when I do have the energy.

Song Fic Ask Challenge

Hi guys! You might remember a little while back I put out a post called the "Song Fic Ask Challenge Part 1". Well, it didn't get near the traction I expected, so I'm reposting it now with the full(shortened) list of prompts in the hopes that more variety will attract more people. And if this isn't your thing, don't worry. A reblog to share it around for others to see is equally appreciated!

If you didn't see my first post, here's how it's gonna go: I have made a list of songs to base one shots off of. With each song title I will give a basic plot and two endings. What I want from you is to send me an ask with a song title from the list, give me a pairing from the groups I write for, (it can be member x member, member x reader, or member x one of my rp characters) and either chose one of the endings I listed or make up your own. Then I will write the one shot, post it and tag you in it. And yes, I know these are all 1D songs. I don't actively follow the members much these days, but I still really enjoy their music. Ending #1: B genuinely has feelings for A and they have a happy relationship. 5. Gotta Be You - a college AU where A and B are an established couple, but one day B says something incredibly rude and/or derogatory about A and it spreads through the college like wildfire. A is hurt, breaks up with B and starts to distance themself. B is extremely ashamed of what they've done and after letting A have some space, tries to talk to them about getting back together. 6. I Wish - A and B have been friends since childhood, and B has been in love with A for a good bit of that time. But then A meets C at their job and begins to fall for C. Ending #2: A remains oblivious, becoming more and more involved with C. 7. Tell Me A Lie - A and B are in a relationship, but recently A has started seeing C and is thinking of dating them instead of B. B, who's really in love with A, is aware of this and becomes increasingly unhappy the more time A spends with C. One night, A comes to tell B they're breaking up and going to date C, B asks them to give any other reason for their breakup than because of C. When A asks why, B explains that they still love A and couldn't live with themselves if they were constantly reminded of C being the reason for their split. Ending #1: When A hears this, they are reminded of all the reasons why they fell for B in the first place and decide not to break up after all. 8. Same Mistakes - A and B are in a dying relationship, neither really willing to change the things necessary to keep their love alive. Instead they keep repeating past experiences, going through the motions of being in love without any good feelings. Deciding to confess their feelings without directly revealing their identity, A anonymously posts little thoughts and phrases on the school's forum page about how jealous they feel when seeing B and C together, and how they could love B more than C does. One day while having lunch with B, A accidentally outs themself as the anonymous poster. Ending #1: B admits they've begun to have feelings for A as well and breaks up with C so they can be with B. Ending #2: B rejects A, becoming angry and accusing A of trying to break up their relationship with C. Enter B, the younger sibling of one of A's friends, who quickly develops a crush on A but is warned by their sibling to stay away or risk getting their heart broken. B continues to pursue A in spite of the warnings, having full knowledge of A's habits and not caring about the consequences. Ending #1: B confesses their feelings to A and the two sleep together, only for A to bring C around a few days later and announce they've decided to date each other. B is heartbroken and distances themself, promising never to have anything to do with A ever again. Ending #2: B confesses their feelings for A and they sleep together. 11. Change My Mind - A and B have been best friends since childhood. They've done pretty much everything together, and are rarely without each other. But after being assigned as roommates at their chosen college, A begins to develop deeper feelings for B. When attending a "welcome to college" party ends with A and B sleeping together, both begin to struggle with how they feel and how this could affect their friendship. Ending #1: A and B admit they have feelings for each other, and decide to pursue a relationship. Ending #2: B keeps their feelings to themself and the two brush it off as a drunken mistake. 12. Love You Goodbye - In the aftermath of an explosive fight, A comes to B's apartment in a very nice outfit. B has a sinking feeling that A hasn't come to apologize and instead wants to break up. So B asks if A can spend the night even if this is the end of their relationship, a way of saying goodbye if you will. Much spiciness ensues😏. Ending #1: The next morning A realises that maybe the two of them can work things out after all, and doesn't actually break up with B. Ending #2: The next morning A dresses, gathers their things, and leaves before B awakens. Okay, okay, don't hang me on a cross, but when I was a smol Fungi, my friends and I started with Telegram because of the options to make separate groups, and the fact that you would generally have better options than WhatsApp (also a desktop version!) just made us use this for rp and writing. Publically, I started on Tumblr uwu

How far do you go with divergences when it comes to your canon muse?

My personal taste is to stay close to the official canon portrayal of the muse. I do like to nibble on it and change some things here and there. If things change or come to mind as hcs, you just sprinkle it on top of them ♡

Nothing against canon divergent muses, I adore them very, very much. It takes much courage and creativity to actually pull that off. I am just a little coward who clenches on the canon portrayal too much ;w;

FC or story first when developing an oc?

Most of the time, I have brain farts for some interesting background or maybe some fun character dynamics. Like for Linn, my mind was like, "Man, these guys are absolutely feral and scary. What if they had a literal sweetheart angel on their ship?" And the rest followed. Like personality always comes first, appearance comes afterward, mixed with backstory.

Namae just wants to hear it like the attention-seeking puppy he is. YES, I DID AND YES MR. 3 WAS THE ISSUE. That is the charm of letting things happen naturally, I suppose =3=. Like my humble self, it was not planned! But it turned out very spicy and is probably one of my all-time favorite ships. Honestly, I would ship with all your muses if you happened to write more. You make it so easy darling baby ♡

What new addition would make your Tumblr experience so much better?

Feeling like Tumblr staff wrote that question, lmao. Get rid of the Lives. I would love to tinker more with my dashboard. Give me the decision to start on my Following tab. Give me quick access to my drafts and my inbox without taking 1000 clicks (because I forgot that they are under your own account first).

And by all that is good and holy, please make side blogs have more liberties. I want them to be like normal ahh blogs. I want to switch quickly through my muses. Not only that, but I have five Google accounts for every muse I write. You could just make the good ol' Instagram and toggle your accounts with one click.

I have more, for sure, but these bug me.
