MERRY CHRISTMAS, here's what i whipped up for @touhousecretsanta !! this comic is for @erifaults !! it's the first comic i've done in a really long time, so i hope it's ok 🥺
i'm so excited other people like chiyari because i'm also obsessed with her after playing ufdoalg!!! i really like her dynamics with yuuma and orin, so i wanted to play around with that in the style of a comedy 4koma
things i've learned: you should always script your dialogue ahead of time and, no matter how closely you look at the pattern on orin's dress, it'll only make less sense

Remember when I posted my KaiMiku drawing a few weeks ago? Well, it turns out that it was a part of this drawing that I was doing of my Ships from the Vocaloids, 3 years later! (On my HCs, of course)
» Miku and Kaito are just beginning their relationship just like Rin and Len.
» Gakupo and Luka are still that couple of romantic crushes, while Gumi is also with Yuuma (the pose of her being carried was strange to me, I know ;-; ) but she is happy to see her cheerful brother with his partner.
» Meiko and Kiyoteru are far away...since they are currently married and would have their first daughter in infant age (and by the way, she is smoll <3)
Yukiko belongs to @ask-the-vocafamilies

東方獣王園 ~ Touhou 19 Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost
Playing TH19 full release after playing the Demo, here is my full honest review:
Quick Disclaimer: I have not yet played with an ENG patch, nor do I know if one exists, nor have I found any resources with full length descriptions of game text for things like character cards. Therefore, some of the information in this post may not be totally accurate, as it is based on my observations, rather than hard-coded facts.
Anywho, let's discuss the elephant in the room: Longevity. Compared to the demo, now you get a one-off barrier at the start of the round, and your lives have also been extended to 5 (from 3) that no longer replenish at the beginning of each stage. Overall, I think this is a good change -- save your tomatoes, as there is more to read below.
Phantasmagoria of Dream Dimension and Phantasmagoria of Flower View are a very different style of game, compared to Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost. First of all, let's discuss spell charging.
Spell charging is now a lot faster, as you can collect tiny orbs from enemies you kill, bullets you graze, and bullets you hit with your scope. This is really good, in my opinion, as the screen is going to be constantly loaded with bullets anyways. The scope in this game is also extremely OP; not only does it activate spirits, sharply reducing their defenses, but it also slows down bullets that are caught inside of it. Characters with good scope coverage, like Yuuma, Chiyari, and Orin (and one might even argue Suika) are given a unique advantage, albeit the way the player executes this advantage is entirely up for debate. How effective one can make their spell gauge filling is entirely up to how skillfully the player dodges and attacks characters. Are you spamming L2 spells? Then you better not get hit. Are you playing safe? Then you better find a way to go on the offensive. There is sort of a balance of defense and offense in this game that is executed quite nicely for most character. Reimu, Chiyari, Zanmu, and a skilled Orin player both do and do not fall into this category, as they are, in my opinion, just straight up OP in many situations for their extreme versatility.
Returning to the topic of prolonged character longevity: barriers. Firing off a L3 spell also replenishes your barrier, so if you lose it after getting hit, you just need to fire off another L3, and boom, it comes back fresh as new. Very cool and good idea--previous TH19 Demo difficulties above Normal difficulty play were just brutal, especially considering that, unless you were playing as Reimu, your character would eventually have to play against Reimu in the story mode. Despite this, I think barriers are a little flawed: barriers themselves don't bullet clear (unless you get Mamizou's spell card), only L3/L4 spells do; their invulnerability phase is very short (albeit, maybe that's okay-ish?), and they take a long time to build up (looking at you Saki and Mamizou). All in all though, a good player should hypothetically be able to weave while focus-scoping through bullets, while also collecting energy orbs while dodging to build up barriers again. Of course, fighting against a Stage 6 Suika/Reimu/Zanmu is a totally different story (Suika's fast and dense bullet patterns, and Reimu/Zanmu with their wide-sprawling, quick-timed, wave-like, micro-dodging patterns are quite difficult to position for, and can be nearly impossible to recover from).
Now time to talk about game length. Now that the full roster has been released, and the game is now 6 stages long (instead of 3 from the demo), more girls are available to fight against in story mode, albeit in a set pattern. Overall, this makes the gameplay have more diversity and fluidity to it, for lack of better words. While PoFV was somewhat random, you always knew, roughly, if a run was going to be over or not based on when you hit a certain AI (i.e. fighting Sakuya in Stage 3 is nowhere near as intimidating as fighting Sakuya in stage 6/7). Now in story mode, you are going to fight the same girls every single time. This is both a welcome and unwelcome changed in my opinion -- the game feels more solid and less RNG, however the game certainly has the roster for it. Though I'm sure if someone other than me cared, and cared more than I do, they would patch it and ship it as a potential mod to the game on Steam Workshop/THCrap (if at all possible for the former).
Furthermore, as there are only 6 stages (compared to the standard 9 in the previous Phantasmagoria-style titles), the lack of those 3 extra stages means you are afforded to make a few more mistakes. Barriers are like extra lives, if you really think about it -- no seriously, just think about it for 2 seconds. If you do mess up, you know what not to do again (or just bomb through it lmao). While the previous titles had generally slower spell charging (in early rounds), varied spell channeling times (based on individual character), and semi-global/global bullet erasure (depending on L2/L3/L4 charge), I unironically think the way TH19 is balanced is a lot healthier for the spell spamming. Only a couple of the girls can really erase bullets, which is a major jaw-dropper; however, I feel like, as long as you are firing off L3 spells as soon as you get hit, you should not have much to worry about. L3 spells take just around 3 seconds to channel (for most characters), if not slightly faster (unsure), and if you are playing smartly, you can gain a lot of spell charge quickly with graze and focused-scoping.
Now time to talk about something crazy: Bombs. True bombs are back from PoDD, and you have more of them which is nice. However, they’re... not that great in most cases (read: not on last spell/not death bombing to prevent life loss), as you do lose all your collected spell power gauge the moment you use a single bomb. That being said, given increased longevity due to L3 barrier spamming, you now have a lot more ways to save those precious resources. The only caveat to this: the best (and safest, if not cheesiest) way to finish off a L4 Boss Spell (in which, the boss will spawn a copy of themselves on to your side of the screen with a proper HP bar that you must then deplete to end the spell trance, and win the round [in most cases]) is by spamming bombs (unless you are Reimu, and to a lesser extent, Enoko, Zanmu, or Suika). This gameplay style is monotonous, plain and simple, and boring. It shoe-horns the player into one specific playstyle of playing until the end, just to finish off the boss' magnum opus final attack with very little effort. Not to mention, most girls need AT LEAST 2 bombs to actually kill a boss from full HP in most cases (again, not looking at your cheating self Reimu).
Now we talk about characters. For a story mode, I feel like Reimu is still just way too OP. Chiyari makes me feel like I'm actually playing versus AI, albeit she makes the game way too easy (you can kill Stage 6 Suika before she even finishes her first spell card, granted you are grazing enough). Orin and Zanmu have similar feel to them, with them being able to turn enemies into easily destructible spirits who then chain-react explode on to their neighbors. Enoko's L2 spam can easily screen-wipe all faeries, erasing some bullets in the process, and sniping the boss from the bottom screen. The other girls are just… average, at best (except you Nazrin, dear LORD). As for Player vs. Player, I'm not sure what to think, as I have not yet played it, but I already know that Chiyari, Zanmu, and Reimu take the cake in terms of offense and defense (though, mostly just offense in Chiyari's case).
Problems I have: Unlike L2 spamming, L1 spamming does not deplete the player's collected spell power meter (or, if it does, then I have not noticed it yet, meaning the depletion amount is negligible). Most of the difficult caveats mentioned until now usually only come from a higher difficulty playthrough (Hard or Lunatic mode), but could also become apparent in Online 1v1 Netplay versus other human players (unless you are a bullet grazing god and can continue to chain L2s, or L3s when necessary). I imagine that Human vs. Human games now have the potential to look more like CPU vs. CPU games, albeit not as long lasting and nowhere near as intense, but surely much better than the previous crap-shoot of TH09 Human vs. Human, in which it felt like the only real stragety was to pick fast charging L2 characters with strong bullet coverage like Marisa, Lyrica, Tewi, or Eiki -- spamming L2 spells to snowball your lead is not entirely possible in this game, given that L3 is the new L2. Since bullet-cancel is also basically non-existent for anyone that's not Yachie or Yuuma, that furthers this issue, which can also be apparent in later-stage Lunatic difficulty when comparing PoFV and TH19. Though, again, who doesn't love to just graze bullets and then go to town on their enemy?
Overall take: the game feels a lot better since the demo. The use of a one-off replenishing barrier at the cost of an L3 spell is smart on ZUN’s part, forcing the player to have near-infinite lives (if they are good enough at playing the game or don't get completely bullet walled), which translates to both story mode and versus mode. Unlike PoFV, this also means that 1v1s versus real players can get really intense, which I solemnly believe is the true beauty, as well as the normal trend, of all Phantasmagoria-style games, generally speaking. Playtime is tremendously shorter than PoFV, meaning dead runs are a thing of the past (especially when combined with barrier spamming), which also makes for a healthier PvP atmosphere compared to PoFV (unhealthy spell card spam made the game unplayable in under 2 minutes versus most post-stage 5 Lunatic CPUs, and could also turn PvP into a total clown show). I hope that ZUN bug fixes the various minute bugs I have heard rumors of (and have yet to experience), and that the ENG translation patch is shipped through Steam (cope?) sooner than later so I can enjoy my lore (even though I know most of it already by now based on the snippets I have received from spoiling myself).
My Tier List:

Final closing thoughts: buy TH19 and become a furry today!
P.S. I play on a controller, if you even care...

Cover finished March ‎21st, ‎2023, video finished March ‎23rd, ‎2023, posted to YouTube on August 25th, 2023
Oh, this is why I stopped sharing my cover works here /silly
I forgot that I like to ramble so SO much about the Evillious Chronicles stuff that I just- Got burnt out talking about it
Anyways, Twin Dragons AU stuff! The AU I'm working on with @lovedtogekiss! This particular cover was mainly to show off who's playing each of the primary sinners and uh- Well, I guess the Pride Arc's already releasing on my YouTube so I guess I can spoil a little bit. So one of Behemo's incarnations is actually split between Riliane and Allen within this universe. So pretend VY2 is actually a Rin, I just didn't use two Rins because Tally and I preferred how VY2 sounded with Rin more than two Rins lmao
Also Levia still becomes Nemesis, of course
