Suit, check. Tie, tied, cufflinks on, vest and pocket square, shoes not out of place. It's a formal event, a press conference, a diplomatic negotiation and a black-tie gala all in one. It's stressing him out, was what it was. Limited guests, all dressed up.

Literally anything and everything there could be misinterpreted, and equally a space with this many government officials was asking for some sort of ambush or attack by-- Zain crosses his arms again, an attempt to keep from fidgeting, though he was becoming increasingly aware it was starting to make him look equally as unapproachable-- and he and Xanti had only just arrived.

Already he can count several high-profile individuals-- including the speaker for New-Gen Perspective, a peaceful reploid's rights activist group.

A sigh burns and dies in his throat as he looks reluctantly to Xanti. How do I look less standoffish? It's a losing game. "You look nice," awkward conversation, but he was trying. Look casual, damn it. The blond's multicolored eyes travel the ball-room, attempting to find a face he was sure he'd recognize. It's crowded, a full house. "...Any sign of our bodyguard?"

I don't have time atm but I'll make a proper intro for all the ros

Dawn

Hair: messy and ear-length (she cut it after a Saturday night meltdown a while back). Half of it is dyed purple, and the other half is naturally black Eyes: Dark brown. Dawn uses contact lenses Height: 163 cm Build: Scrawny Skin: Honey brown Race: Southeast Asian Other: Dawn has a few piercings. Her arms are covered in tattoos.

Personality: resilient, quick-witted and determined. Dawn knows what she wants (to get rid of Seth) and she knows how to get it (using MC). She's never hidden her intentions, or lied about her objective. Dawn's distaste for deities is evident since the moment MC meets her, and she seems to faintly rejoice in reminding them. A very intelligent woman, Dawn loves street racing and causing some trouble online. She ‘works’ as a hacker.

Tropes: Rivals to friends to lovers, Forced proximity, (possible) Rivals with benefits.

Bruno

Hair: cropped short, dark brown/nearly black hair. Eyes: Light brown. Bruno uses glasses. Height: 181 cm Build: Average and soft, a bit chubby Skin: Bronze Race: half Hispanic, half East Asian

Personality: neurotic, idealistic and uptight. Otherwise known as MC's companion in jail, Bruno has been recently caught for a crime that is a product of his own very uncharacteristic and rare ambition: knowledge. He's a very intelligent individual, although not particularly assertive. This historian and divorced dad knows more about MC than he lets on, though Bruno insists he was just at the wrong time at the wrong time.

Tropes: Devotee/Worshipper X Deity, (Bruno's) Strangers to friends to lovers, Parent RO.

A Moonless

Hair: long (f!A, middle back / m!A and nb!A, shoulder-length), jellyfish cut. It's naturally brown with a colorfully dyed front. Eyes: Hazel. Height: f!A and nb!A, 170cm / m!A, 177cm. Build: Skinny Skin: Tan Race: Indigenous (unknown) Other: A has a few tattoos on their arms and legs.

Personality: caring, playful and a bit temperamental. Despite their new, much more modern look, A is and acts just like a human MC once knew and loved, Zain. A is protective of those they care about, and they're never afraid to speak their mind. They're Dawn's coworker at the Speakeasy, where VR services are offered to its clients.

Tropes: One-sided (MC) pining, Apparently reincarnated old flame/friend.

A’s hair inspo:

Vex

Hair: Buzz cut. Eyes: Naturally light brown, V has modified them to have synth eyes (they're a very pale green, with a faint glow). Height: 186 cm Build: Athletic Skin: Honey brown Race: Southeast Asian Other: More than half of V’s body has been modified. Their arms and legs are synthetic.

Personality: dependable, loyal and stoic. Vex is Dawn's older sibling, and while their relationship is not at its best, Dawn will always be V’s sole priority. They might not be the most affectionate person in the world, but when Vex cares they're willing to defy every norm they so dutifully abide. They've worked as a law enforcer for Lord Seth and the government for a few years.

Tropes: (V's) First love, Mutual pining, Slow burn.

Eris

Hair: coiled light brown afro. People know and recognize Eris by the wigs she wears, among which a white shoulder-length bob is the most iconic. Eyes: Dark brown. Eris often uses colored contact lenses (mostly pink, white and blue). Height: 173 cm Build: Skinny and slightly lean Skin: Ebony Race: Black Other: Eris has a few body modifications. Her left arm isn't flesh but metal.

Personality: charming, humorous and flirty. Eris (real name: Estelle Lawrence) is a celebrity in every sense of the word. She knows just what to say and how to say it, she's likable, friendly and very talkative. Beneath the public persona everyone adores, Eris is a complete mystery.

Tropes: Strangers to friends to lovers, (optional) friends with benefits, (optional, stc) Fake relationship.

Seth

Hair: long dark brown, with a few braids Eyes: light brown with golden specks Height: 193 cm Build: Lean, very muscled Skin: Olive Race: Middle Eastern Other: has a short beard

Personality: blunt, practical, and very reckless. Seth acts before he thinks (a trait that he and everyone find quite inconvenient) and seems to hate planning ahead. The God of War has a very dry/deadpan sense of humor. MC remembered him to be more outgoing, but Seth’s cold-hearted reputation precedes him.

Tropes: Enemies to lovers, Immortal love, Wrong place wrong time, (possible) ex-friend or ex-crush.

I debated posting this one here since it’s not really it’s own design, it’s just a illustration of what seems to be v2 miku but I feel like it needs more recognition for how beautiful it is.

The long part of Miku’s iconic sleeves are holograms! As well parts of her skirt. I did not like this drawing when i was a lot younger but that was because I had no taste for art. It’s just so vibrant and lively. I can’t say it’s good character box art though. Usually I think it would be better to have a simple illustration of the character like the v2 miku did or a sketch like the original project Zola. V3 English is excused though because miku is already so well known that it’s doesn’t even matter, if it was a newer character I feel like doing something as beautiful as this would be a mistake.

Odd Temple part 2

Part One

Salim followed the path down, eyes darting to every dark nook. So far he hadn't been jumped by this Balathu creature but he remained on high alert. He turned the next corner and instantly pulled back again, arms flailing at the dual instinct to fight and flee.

This room looked like it was once used for worship. There was an altar and various religious icons. Salim studied them so he could describe their images to Zain later. A hole in the ceiling allowed sunlight to come through, and he saw a figure lying on the ground. Salim moved to help them to their feet and found them to be surprisingly light. The figure's face stared at him with blank eyes, a faint gloss on the dark skin.

“Oh,” Salim said out loud. “It's just a dummy.”

“I'm not a dummy,” the thing argued, causing Salim to drop it back on the floor in surprise. “I'm a mannequin,” the figure continued, easily righting itself. Its appearance was of a man with a muscular body and wearing a soldier's uniform just like the others.

“Y-you can... you're talking,” Salim gulped. “And moving.” He ran his hand over his head checking for any bumps. He couldn't feel anything but how else could he explain what was happening? Was this real?

“Yeah. It's a little strange.” An understatement, in Salim's opinion. The voice coming out of the mannequin was slightly hollow and only the lips moved, leaving the rest of the face blank. “I'm Nick,” the mannequin introduced.

“You have a name?”

“I think so. Take a look.” Nick pointed to a spot between his shoulder-blades. Salim went around to look and saw someone had written the name “Nick” in permanent marker. Maybe the owner of wherever the mannequin came from, or a bored teenager.

“Good enough,” Salim judged. “My name is Salim. I fell down here and I'm on my way to find the Queen.”

“You mean the Queen Bitch?”

“How do you know about her?” Salim asked in surprise.

“I'm not sure.” Nick tilted his head to the side. “I think I heard some soldiers talking about her. I get pretty easily distracted.”

“They might have been the same soldiers who told me about her,” Salim reasoned. “I'm on my way to see her. I hope she can tell me a way to get out of here so I can get back to my son.” Nick still had his head tilted and it was hard to tell if he processed any of what Salim just said.

“You think she could help me, too?” the mannequin wondered.

“I suppose you could ask.” Salim knew very little about the woman, but surely she would have some ideas on what to do with a talking mannequin.

Salim started off again with his new companion following beside him. The eventually came to a spot where they could go even deeper. That was the only direction Salim knew of to reach the Queen, so he followed that path with his weapon clutched tightly in both hands.

He and Nick came to a hall full of statues. They all must have been incredible works of art, but time and the elements had wrecked them. Many of them were crumbled into pieces. Only one remained intact. It was a statue of a young man holding up a shield. The shield looked newly polished. It might come in handy, Salim reasoned, and reached out to take it.

“Hey!” Salim was startled by the voice that came out from the statue. “What the fuck do you think you're doin'?”

“The statues talk too?” Salim gaped.

“Apparently,” Nick shrugged.

“Of course I fuckin' talk,” the statue grumbled. His voice had that same hollow quality as Nick's, but Salim noticed an accent on top of it. That was strange enough, but even stranger was that the accent sounded like an American from the South, and Salim was fairly sure he only heard such accents in cowboy movies.

“My apologies.” Salim inclined his head. “I just thought your shield could be useful. Balathu is hunting me and--”

“You're the one who killed Kurum?” the statue interrupted.

“Sort of. In any case, I'm going to the Queen and hoping she will help me get back home to my son.” The statue stared at him with cold, empty eyes. Salim found himself marveling at the detail the carver put into the face: he could see the etched eyebrows and hair from under the helmet the statue wore.

“All right,” the statue spoke up. “I'll go with you. As the guardian of the temple, it's my job.” Salim's face went wide in surprise, but then he smiled. He certainly wasn't going to turn away an offer of more help.

“Thank you, my friend. What should I call you?”

“Jason,” the statue responded. Salim smiled and held out his hand. After a long moment he felt Jason's stony grip.

“I'm Salim, and this is Nick.” “Huh?” Nick turned at the sound of his name.

“Get your head screwed on,” Jason scolded the mannequin. “C'mon, let's get goin'. I'll lead the way,” he added, hefting the shield.

Salim and Nick followed behind him. I am in a Sumerian temple with a mannequin and a statue, Salim reflected. It was so beyond surreal. Still, as strange as his two companions were, at least he wasn't down here alone anymore.

Of course, we all know Hatsune Miku, she is the most well known Vocaloid, even being claimed to be the first vocaloid due to her popularity! I'm still going to go over alot about her so buckle up, she will probably be my longest entry!

Hatsune Miku was advertised through the DTM Magazine, as were most vocaloids before her. In the November 2007 issue that came out after her release, there was a demo cd with featuring songs sung by her. This issue sold out completely and led to Crypton reaching out to other magazines and guidebooks to promote her further.

In her first 12 days of sale, she already sold over 3000 units, which is what MEIKO made in a year. She ended up selling over 60,000 copies in her first year, a massive sale compared to MEIKO and KAITO.

Hatsune Miku boomed with popularity on Nico Nico Douga. The song 'Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru' became the first vocaloid song to get 1,000,000 views on the streaming site.

The concept behind Miku is 'An android from the future where songs are lost' and has traveled back in time to prevent this future from happening. Her name roughly translates to 'the first sound from the future'

KEI was the original illustrator for Mikus boxart, and it took him over a month to complete the final design. He never heard of Vocaloids or synthesizers in general,and had no idea how to humanize a voice program.

Her design has several key elements:

• Her color scheme is based around Yamahas classic synthesizers colors

• The digital bars on her skirt and boots are the bars from the Yamaha synthesizer

• Other aspects of her design are based around the DX-100 and DX-7 keyboard models

•The hair ribbons float without touching her hair and keep it in place

•Before she was given her iconic pigtails, she had a half up half down hair style. (Shown below)

Like how MEIKO and KAITO are associated with a specific item, Miku has her own item too! Commonly mistaken for a leek, she carries a spring onion! Although due to the misconception, she is more often drawn with a leek.

Miku got so popular to the point she is recognizable almost everywhere in Japan. She is used to draw attention for festivals and sponsor products, and is even in music textbooks.

Because of how recognizable she was, when the 2011 tsunami hit Japan, she was used as the face to represent country and hopefully make younger children feel safer seeing a character they know and love representing them.

Out of all her voicebanks, Append is the only one generally disliked by the community. This got to a point where songs were 'boycotted' if the producer used Append. Many stated it no longer sounded like Miku and refused to listen to her voicebank.

Append is also the only design to be censored in official art. The strip of flesh showing under her tie is covered in Project Diva, but is uncensored in her figures.

While advertising her to the western audience, Crypton marketed her as a virtual singer instead of a virtual instrument.

Miku has the second most amount of voicebanks of any vocaloid, 15 versions.

She is now the face of Crypton Future Media, and Vocaloid as a whole. This has led to come criticism from the community stating that crypton needs to bring more attention to thier other vocaloids as well instead of throwing Miku into everything.

Personal Opinion:

I LOVE Miku, she is in my top ten. I love seeing how different she sounds when used by different producers and I think her voice is really appealing. I also love how versatile her design is, seeing all her Snow Miku and Magical Mirai designs every year us so fun! And just her merchandise, ugh, I want so much of it! But I do understand people complaints with her, no one else really gets a chance in the spotlight because of her. But! I still love her she is just a little guuuy little guy with cute voice♡

Brisbane LGBTQIA+ pub The Wickham has announced US drag icon Lady Bunny is headlining annual Fortitude Valley street party Big Gay Day this May.

The huge pride street party will again take over The Wickham and neighbouring streets with an all-day lineup of entertainment on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Today, Big Gay Day has confirmed that legendary US drag queen Lady Bunny (above) is heading to Brisbane to join the street party.

Bunny will join previously announced headliners Spice Girl Melanie C (returning to the Big Gay Day stage for a DJ set), Aussie dance music group Sneaky Sound System and British DJ Tall Paul.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under star Hannah Conda, who’s currently back on the show doing us proud on UK vs the World, will also perform.

Meanwhile, punters will enjoy cabaret collective Briefs Factory and huge local drag show Mega Drag presented by Dolly Llama.

The epic street party, hosted by Paul Wheeler, will also see DJs Jarred Baker, ENN, Siala, Point of Change x Rhytmology, Alt., Beksis, Richie le Strange, TINY, Galleon, DJ Sammy, DJ Zain, DJ Lilly Street on the decks.

Very camp theme for Big Gay Day 2024

Every year since 2000, Big Gay Day has celebrated the local LGBTQIA+ community and raised money for local charities.

For 2024, organisers have confirmed that this year’s very camp Big Gay Day theme is The Wickham of Oz.

“A tornado of technicolour proportions will hit Fortitude Valley,” the team teased.

“Follow the rainbow brick road to the land of Wick and you’ll discover there’s no place like Big Gay Day.

“Grab your best Judy’s, click your heels three times, and head under the rainbow for one incredible party.”

This week, Big Gay Day early bird tickets sold out, with first release tickets available Wednesday 10am. (February 14).
