So I’ve been thinking about the widespread belief that Luffy wouldn’t give a single fuck about a reveal of his mother. (And I’m a crocodad fanatic so I’ll be treating that like it’s canon but this all should apply to any reveal, Crocodile or not)
This isn’t me trying to hard argue against Luffy not caring about his mother, it’s a huge possibility but I just feel like people say it with a lot of unearned confidence. The belief seems to come from how Luffy reacted to the reveal of Dragon being his dad. And Luffy not caring about a father makes a lot of sense when you consider his experiences. I mean just look at the male role models in his life!
Garp comes and goes as he pleases, just showing up to knock him in the head, share a meal, and then disappears. Shanks was much the same until he left for literally the last time Luffy would ever see him to date. His male figures leave him to follow their own passions, even Ace did the second he came of age. And Luffy isn’t upset by this, he accepts this as a normal part of life. Men go off and find their adventure, that’s just what men do.
(Btw Im not trying to make this a claim that Luffy doesn’t think girls shouldn’t go off on their adventures, just that this is Luffy’s experience with his male role models and how he’d justify it)
So this is why I think it makes sense that Luffy was so uncaring about his father being revealed to him. Dragon did what Luffy would expect a father figure to do, he showed up for a minute to help, and then left unceremoniously. Luffy doesn’t need to give anymore thought to it or to Dragon.
But, this is where I begin to question the assumptions that Luffy also wouldn’t care about his mother.
Luffy has a very different relationship with the female role models in his life.
Makino was a constant in his young life, providing a safe space for him to hang around. Makino from the little we see of her was incredibly caring and maternal to a young Luffy. Even after Luffy got moved to the mountains, she’d make the effort to visit and bring him new clothes. Her kindness and motherly care extended to Luffy’s new brothers too!
Then there is Dadan who, while not proactively or overtly caring, shows how much she cares for her boys by actively protecting them when a real threat appears and always making sure to check in on them. Her contribution to raising Luffy can’t be understated.
And probably the biggest influence on Luffy, Ace himself. The man who loves and deified his mother. I have zero doubts that Ace talked about his mother to Luffy at least once. I don’t think I’m crazy for believing this could have had an influence on Luffy.
This has been my long winded way of saying I think Luffy might care about a reveal of his mother. I think he’d be curious about why his mother didn’t stick around, where they’d been, and what adventure had kept them away.
Anyway, I’d love to hear any thoughts anyone else has on this subject.
Watching totally killer right now and there’s a scene where the mc sees this guy wearing a shirt that says “FBI Federal booby inspector” and she’s like “that shirt is so problematic” STOPP STOPPP KILL MEEE THATS SO FUCKING STUPUD WHO IS WRITING THESE MOVIES
Z-zombie!Ghost who is stalking and resource guarding you as you travel and traverse through the bleak and empty ruins of the once lively towns in hopes of finding either resources or a human settlement that will be kind enough to let you join them, but for now you have only yourself....or at least that's what you think.
Ghost will follow you all the time but not show himself just yet, instead he will grunt and growl in delight to himself as he watches you camp for the night or, even better, take a bath in a clean lake or stream.
Not to mention that he's incredibly aggressive when it comes to you, his beastly instincts expand more and more as the infection took a hold of his brain and in result made him violent and hostile towards everything that could be a potential threat to you :(( So the times when you traverse through another town and you hear a blood-curdling screech that makes your skin crawl you may think that it's some zombies that fight over food or whatever zombies might fight over, but in reality it's Si tearing one apart for getting way too close to you♡
I don't remember who did skizz w/ the wings sewn into his suit first, someone tell me so I can credit please (I FOUND THE POST it was originally done by (or at least I first saw it from) @sickcroww30)
I had to figure out how to do jimmy not in a superhero costume and I think I did good? Maybe? Also, he has canary feathers, and I think he just has them always after this season, even in other series, and in subsequent seasons he also has wings (that are too small to let him fly)
I strongly headcanon that scar had leg braces made by the other hermits that's all
You might have noticed in my other art that grian's wings changed, and that's intentional! They become more brown and dull as he loses his lives. I personally believe he has complete control over his wings and is just being a dramatic little bitch lol, he also changes them in other series
Also, idk if you can see, but all the dogwarts members have the banner somewhere on them, and Impulse's has stitches right down the center of it :) He is the most underrated 3rd life character just so you know. If you even care.
The funniest headcanon I’ve ever thought of is the idea that dragon being supportive of his ex being trans but not knowing crocodiles new name
Only refers to luffys other parent as “my baby daddy” But he says it in the same tone that someone would say “my ex wife”
Just imagine the comedy
I love this so much. The last several days I've just been thinking about in all the way Dragon would find to mention his baby daddy. Especially after it got out that Luffy was his son.
After Marineford, some officials like Koala would ask, "wait, we've never seen you date."
And Dragon immediately grumbles, "My baby daddy never let me brag about him, the mysterious bastard! You know he never even let me take a picture with him!" bonus points if Crocodile's bounty poster is on his desk when he says it.
I’ve always found your version of Deadpool’s skin a perfect mix of uncomfortable and pleasant on the eyes. The comic’s version usually makes me uncomfortable but your’s makes me want to meet the guy and feel his skin- shit that’s weird. Uh what I’m saying is I’d much rather the way you draw DP’s skin over anything the comics have given us.
oh bless you anon!! he's just a cuddly guy...
i know a lot of spideypool artists like to lean into a more grotesque look for wade's scars - because, well - the comics kind of make him look like a zombie, a lot of the time.
i'm kind of not about it. i don't know - it's a personal thing, but i'm kind of squeamish – and so much art i've seen, i kind of grimace when i see the detailed flesh wounds. i don't know, it makes me enjoy the art a lot less.
i think if it's to serve a purpose - like, yeah, to show something horrific, let the art be horrific. but otherwise, if telling a little story where the characters are meant to be loveable, appeal is so important. i wouldn't want people to grimace looking at all those detailed flesh wounds. i want people to look at wade and see that he's cuddly and loveable. sure, his face is all messed up and scarred, but he's still got his cuddly humanity. you can still hug him. and you should hug him. he won't stab you (he doesn't do that anymore.)
it's why i really don't like the dead white eyes that the comics have been pushing since 2013 – i hate those dead eyes. he never had dead eyes before that. i know people theorise oh, it's because his eyes are white through the mask but that's stupid. that's stupid. by that logic peter parker should actually have huge bug eyes. shut up. it's a mask. it is a mask with white lenses.
bring back my wonderful, loveable, cuddly brown-eyed boy. he's weird-looking but he's not vomit-inducing.
