Negev Desert Synagogue [1969]
Zvi Hecker and Alfred Neumann
Built to a sparse desert landscape, the design is composed of three polyhedral modules that provide the overtly geometric form of the synagogue. Abstracted through a series of projections and intersections, Hecker and Neumann’s design takes aim at the sacred architecture typology, reassociating it with that of bold, playful modernity.

RIP Zvi Hecker "Do you believe that someone out of the past - someone dead - can enter and take possession of a living being?”
Aurevoir Zvi; memories of your office on Oranienburger Strasse in the synagogue talking about Matta Clark; a handshake over the tables like we had just finished table tennis; the ceremony in the laying of the foundation stone at Heinz Galinski; Berlin has called your day.
