Inspired by another novel I was reading. (I put the hopeless in hopeless romantic.) A lot of times, we push away people that only want to help us. Just remember if someone truly cares, they will have the hope we lack. Trust someone to fix you. Trust someone to fight for you when you can’t because when you get wounded, the walls won’t help but the people will.

A lot of times, we get so caught up in ourselves and our routine that we forget that there are other people with us. Those people are observing us, learning from us. We find ourselves wondering if our actions are meaningful, noticeable and can leave an impact on others. We only have one shot at life and we hope that we do not waste it, that we leave a legacy. Today I volunteered to be a mentor to a young girl and help her code. We designed a cute little interactive story and created it on scratch and played it in front of the other students and parents. (Now, I have to admit, it wasn’t completely smooth or easy by any means.) I definitely didn’t feel like anything I was doing was a great deal. I just found a way to entertain myself on an otherwise mundane Saturday. After our presentation, however, the little girl’s mother pulled me aside and told me how glad she was that I had been her mentor. She told me that I had been an excellent role model for her daughter and she was glad that she daughter got a mentor who demonstrated that females can succeed in this field just as much as men can. I definitely do not believe I had done anything extraordinary today. I was simply myself and that is what I was most proud about. I was proud of that fact that I could inspire someone just by being me. Truthfully, knowing that I was a good role model for a very bright young child was better than any award or accomplishment I have ever gotten. And today I realised that no matter how simply you are doing things, someone is watching and learning. The point of my insanely long post is that you are making a difference, you are having an impact. I challenge you, today, to go and find someone whom you are inspiring just by being yourself. Trust me, you won’t have to look that far.

Here’s a little poem I wrote. It was inspired by my little cousin brother. He was sleeping peacefully while there was a horrible storm outside and it made me think about how all kids deserve that kind of peace and love but only the privileged ones get it. WE are the adults. It’s OUR responsibility to keep them safe and happy. Unfortunately, I think we are failing horribly. So let’s start doing out part to keep everyone safe.
