EXO: The Black Influence

This is the second piece in the series “So, What is Blexo?” . Enjoy, share your thoughts, and tell us what you think!

As we all know, EXO’s music is one of the best within the kpop industry. It’s always new and innovative, well polished, and embodies what many groups sometimes aren’t able to capture. And what is that exactly? Well, if you’re going to tackle genres such as pop/r&b/ and small elements of hip-hop and trap, they have to get it from somewhere right? And do it well while they’re at it.

 Who has worked on EXO’s music?

There are many black producers and lyricists who have contributed to EXO’s discography in one of the most diverse yet shocking ways that I’ve ever seen. And by shocking, I mean that I can’t believe the same producers who have made some of my favorite songs growing up has also produced some of my favorite EXO songs. I’m unsure of how many people are aware of who has produced what for them, but I’ll list a few below. 

Teddy Riley: Yes, you read that correctly. The same Teddy Riley who worked on/produced Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album. The songs that Teddy has done for EXO? He helped produce What is Love, Call Me Baby, and Beautiful. 

The Underdogs: They have worked with artists such as Babyface, Tyrese Gibson, and Tank. They produced Overdose, Moonlight, and What If.

Dem Jointz: He has worked with Dr. Dre, Rihanna, and Brandy. And in case you were wondering about the “Dem Jointz” you hear in the beginning of Cloud 9, that’s the universal sign (watermark) of who produced the track. So yes, he is the one who produced Cloud 9.

Joe Millionaire and Vakseen: These two men are new to the SM family, and were also just recently signed to SM to continue working with them for future projects. They produced One and Only and They Never Know.

Finished up my newest painting last night during art walk & I titled her "2am Innocence"😈. This piece touches on power, confidence, love, seduction & vulnerability, which are def common components in my work. The title says it all. She's sexy as hell though #thoselips! "True innocence is afraid of nothing....."😻
