This illustration started life as a concept for TIME - I created a different final piece but still liked this idea, so I decided to work it up to final.
The commission was about the aftermath of divorce. The author used mathematical metaphors to reflect on her experience.

Midwives commissioned this illustration for use on their cover and feature opener. Midwives is the official magazine of the Royal College of Midwives.
The feature focuses on how leadership in maternity goes beyond hierarchy, as every member of the profession is the expert in the room. The article discusses how colleagues can contribute to leadership at all levels with kindness and empathy.

I was commissioned by Scientific American to create two illustrations about the rise and fall of Vitamin D.
The article talks about how Vitamin D was once presented as a cure-all, with low Vitamin D levels linked to a range of conditions including cancer and depression. However, recent research has failed to back up the claims that increasing intake of the supplement can prevent or treat illnesses.
A huge thanks to AD Michael Mrak.

One vision!
I originally developed this concept for an editorial commission. The idea was about sharing and understanding someone else's viewpoint and feelings, though it's taken a slightly more psychedelic turn with this animation and colour palette.

TIME commissioned this illustration to accompany an article reflecting on a writer's experience with divorce.
The author, poet Maggie Smith, uses mathematical metaphors to discuss division and subtraction in the aftermath of divorce. Despite the losses, she redefines the equation, recognising unchanged constants. Smith shifts her perspective to see post-divorce life as a time of multiplication and addition.
Thanks again to AD Victor Williams.

I was commissioned by TIME to illustrate an article about the pervasive challenges poor people face, as well as the sacrifices children also have to endure.
The author Stephanie Land reflects on her experiences using food stamps seven years ago as a college student, feeling ashamed and judged when buying treats for her child. Land's new book portrays her struggles as a single mother striving for resources, education, and moments of joy for her child while facing the hardships of poverty.
A huge thanks to AD Victor Williams.

I was commissioned by AARP to create this animated illustration for The Ethel, for an article about an engineer learning to be more empathetic.
In the article, Dr Nicole Price, an engineer by profession, shares how she discovered the power of empathy and transformed her relationships and her life. She highlights that empathy can be learned and is not about feeling sorry for someone but understanding and sharing their feelings. Dr Price believes that empathy is a powerful tool that can lead to stronger connections and a more compassionate society, encouraging readers to embark on this transformative journey.
Big thanks to AD Jenny Rosenberg!

I was commissioned by the Association for Talent Development to illustrate a double-page opener in TD Magazine, for a feature entitled 'Five Opportunity Spaces for the Future of Learning'.
The article discusses the importance of embracing perceived societal disruptions as a competitive advantage when developing innovative learning solutions. It challenges the notion that the future is distant and irrelevant to present activities, emphasising that the future is closely tied to actions taken today.
The key areas of focus are social, technological, economic, environmental and political. My illustration highlights several trends in these domains that are poised to disrupt the landscape of learning.

I thought it might be fun to show a little process for my recent ‘Dreamscapes (Urban)’ illustration. From sketchbook to flat colour to final!
As you can see, I originally drew a frame for a closer-cropped landscape but the image expanded beyond my intended canvas, hence the sketch spilling over the page.
