(Re)defining Clean DIY Workshop
Thanks to our clean obsession, we're drowning in a sea of toxicity.
Common household and body care products contain chemicals that have been linked to more than 200 health problems including asthma, depression, anxiety and various cancers (including breast, ovarian and brain). Many of these chemicals are stored in our bodies and accumulate over time to cause health problems after years of gradual exposure.
We will be discussing some of the most common toxic chemicals we’re expose to on a daily basis, healthy alterNatives and how to make your own plant-based DIY household and body care products.

Liberation not Deportation!
The hummingbird is a symbol of peace, love and happiness. To many indigenous people, the hummingbird believed to represent the physical form of a spirit helper and guide. Inspired by my ancestors deep spirituality, I used the hummingbird as a symbol to communicate dreams, thoughts, her/his-tory and movement.

Tonantzin Against Walmart!
Photography by Zuleica Zepeda
Artwork by Marilynn Montaño & Alan Cohetzatitla
Walmart employees continue to stand up to one of the greediest companies in the world and began nation-wide protests against the giant corporation. Additionally, Walmart has not changed its ways and continues to offer poverty wages while their employees have to apply to public assitance.
Walmart workers and allies across the nation will be protesting this Black Friday, November 29th, during the biggest shopping day of the year. Workers are standing up to Walmart to call for an end to retaliation against those who bravely speak out.
In Solidarity.

Kale-Mint Banana Smoothie with Flax Seed
On December 21, 2012, I welcomed the sixth sun by giving thanks and offering flowers to the ocean water. One of my ofrendas that day was to my late abuelito. Two lonely years had passed since his return to the spirit world. My humble ofrenda, give up drinking alcohol.
As a vegana Indígena, I have learned that self-destruction is not r/evolutionary. I remember sharing my intentions with my mama, “Ay hija, ni que fueras alcoholica pero me da mucho gusto." This morning, I greeted the sun as I sage-smudged; it reminded me that today was 6 months since my offering. Aho!
What better way to give thanks and celebrate summer solstice than with a re(fresh)ing green smoothie. Soldadera salute!
Kale-Mint Banana Smoothie with Flax Seed
1 cup raw kale, washed & chopped
1 cup hemp milk (or your favorite non-dairy milk)
1 banana
5 to 10 fresh mint leaves (to taste)
1 tablespoon agave
½ teaspoon flax seed (or chia seeds)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
In a blender, combine all ingredients & blend until smooth. Add chopped bananas & fresh mint leaves for garnish. Enjoy!

Raw Vegan Zucchini & Cucumber Noodles with Cashew Sauce
Raw Vegan Zucchini & Cucumber Noodles with Cashew Sauce
The simplest ingredients make the best-tasting food. ¡Provecho!
Ingredients
1 zucchini, peeled and julienned (I used a vegetable peeler)
1 cucumber, peeled and julienned
Cashew sauce
1 cup raw cashews 1 cup water
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons chopped yellow onion
¼ teaspoon sea salt
Topper
¼ cup puffed quinoa
¼ cup raw cashews, finely chopped
1 tbsp sliced almonds pinch of sea salt
Instructions
Peel the zucchini and cucumber and julienne them (or peel them as I did with a vegetable peeler). Place the noodles in a colander and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Set aside.
Meanwhile, soak cashews in water for at least an hour. Reserve ½ cup of water and drain the cashews. Combine the cashews, the ½ cup of water and the vinegar in a food processor. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides with a spatula. Add onion and sea salt. Blend until smooth.
To make the topper, combine all topper ingredients in a small bowl. To serve, place the noodles in a clean bowl, mix in the cashew sauce and add a handful of topper. Serve immediately.

red paint
we come from an ancestral
bloodline of warriors
our flesh carries wisdom and medicine
from the sacred seven generations
that came before us
we walk upon Tonantzin beneath
the breath of shedding skins
and buried bodies
listening as Ehekatl whispers
i no longer have peace knowing
our paths have been
divided by the system
little brother...my warrior
the red paint on my hands is a reminder
my place is in the struggle
rebelliously braided out

Photo Shoot with Sacred Blasphemy
I first photographed [Chuco of] Sacred Blasphemy with my 35mm film camera back in 2010 at Xip Xop OaXaca at El Centro Cultural de México in SanTana. Three years later, things come full circle. The homie Skandalouz hit me up to do a photo shoot for a write-up for OC Weekly. 60+ takes on a beautiful, sunny day in Anacrime, check out my top 6.
The second location of the photo shoot was at a bus stop near Lincoln and Crescent. "Yo, so what's the purpose of being photographed at a bus stop?" I asked. "We're ordinary people, we're part of the community. Shit! We ride the bus too!"
