there was the sound of the door opening and light footsteps treading in the darkness of your home echoing throughout the place, the only thing heard in the silence—it felt like time had completely stopped with how quiet and still the surroundings were.
the man who had just entered caught a glimpse of a person—you—sleeping on one of the couches peacefully, without any care of the world as if someone didn’t just invaded their own home—thankfully, however, the man wasn’t a stranger and was rather your husband who had just came home after working for seemingly the whole day and he was greeted by the sight of you sleeping in the living room instead of your own bedroom.
he couldn’t help but sigh upon thinking that you probably waited for him to come home even if he had specifically told you not to. did you push yourself again to stay awake so you could wait for him? how many times have he told you already not to stay up late just so you could greet him once he enters the door? he lost count anymore and might have given up at this point knowing how stubborn you can get. he rolls his eyes at the thought as he approaches your sleeping figure, quietly and carefully, afraid that he’ll wake you up.
he reached his arms out to your face and a warm and gentle feeling of something that seemed like a hand, softly caressing your skin, glossing and tracing your cheek was felt. the feeling itself was ticklish, eventually pulling you to consciousness and stirring you awake only to be greeted by a blurry sight of a person sitting in front of you, their figure blocking the light passing through the window and casting a shadow on you.
“scara…?” you call out in a whisper as you sit up, rubbing your eyes to adjust your sight to your surroundings. scaramouche’s gaze followed you as you rose and he always never seem to notice how his eyes always softens when he looks at you and how fondness laces itself in the depths of his orbs, or maybe he does, perhaps he realizes it from the gentleness of his touch and how he refrains himself from spilling words that could hurt you.
once you’ve known that it was indeed him, your lips couldn’t help but break out into a smile. “how long have you been here?”
“i arrived just now. what were you doing, sleeping on the couch as if we don’t have a bedroom?” he sits down besides you as he asks, as if he doesn’t know the answer already but scaramouche misses you and your voice.
“i was waiting for you,” you answered, a hand reaching out to cup his cheek and gently caress your thumb against his skin, “you were gone for the whole day, you know?”
“i thought you’ve already gotten used to me being gone—“
“i could never.” getting used to his absence was an idea that horrified you—especially with his line of work, always leaving to take on dangerous tasks that can put his life at risk—, you could never get yourself more acquainted with the vast nothingness of the nonexistence of his being. it scares you to think that one day, you’ll get accustomed to the coldness of his absence, that you’ll be more familiar with the silence more than his presence.
“i could never get used to being alone, much less you being gone.”
silence reigned between the two of you as he could only gaze at you (words will not come out of his mouth even if he’ll try to speak) affection being conveyed through his eyes, and there was only one thought running inside his head, tainting and ruling over his mind—to kiss you. whether the situation was asking him or not, he just couldn’t help it, you just look so adorable and lovely right now that he couldn’t help but think of crashing his lips against yours and molding it against each other like two missing puzzle pieces; to taste forgiveness and stars in your mouth.
and so he did.
with his hand held out to touch your face, to gently trace your features with the tip of his finger, to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear, his palm rested against your cheek and you leaned against his touch, relaxing at the warmth of his presence. breaths slowly syncing and matching the pace of the other, he closed in the gap between you two, the distance between you being covered until it was no more as he captures your lips into a kiss—slow but it is one that is filled with affection, adoration, and all of his feelings that he cannot (for the life of archons) never tell you.
your fingers reach up to tangle itself in his hair, lacing itself in his indigo locks, as the kiss continues and deepens into a passionate one—everything slows and faded as if there was only the two of you—lips chasing each other, desperate to feel and taste one another, and you could swear that you heard a low moan from him when you bit his bottom lip.
but of course, things always come to an end and so, lips parting from each other, as you need to chase your breaths. he rests his forehead against you, your eyes remains on him with the same affectionate and loving gaze you had since earlier; sometimes, he thinks if you realize that the hand you hold is tainted with blood and sins.
you chuckle, “have i told you that i love you?”
“even if you don’t tell me, i’ll know anyways.”
you couldn’t help but chuckle upon hearing his answer, it was a response that you expected from him. honestly, he’s only been gone for a day but it feels like it has been a long time since he disappeared. was it just the weather? the vast feeling of loneliness of eating alone nearly every single day? the silence that you have to listen to in every instance that he’s gone? archons, oftentimes the house can just be too big and cold when you’re just on your own.
the two of you remained there, still as time and silence, only relishing in this rare moment that you get to spend with him in vulnerable times.
“i love you.”
he says and although his voice sounds the same as usual, seemingly monotonous, but the hints of adoration and warmth trailing his tone didn’t go unnoticed by you, his words managing to make its way to you and making your heart flutter. you planted a quick kiss on his lips, the feeling itself lingering in his mouth, the sweet aftertaste of you persisting in his lips—
“i love you too, kuni.”
BONUS
“should we have a child then so you would feel less lonely?”
once he had offered you that idea, you stilled. normally, you would have hit him for giving such an idea but it actually makes sense, it sounds tempting, even. in some sense, it could work and perhaps, it could lessen the loneliness that you feel whenever he’s not around.
“so what do you say?” he asks before then pressing his lips against your temple, kisses trailing down the sides of your face and tracing your jaw, interrupting your thought process and making you unable to think properly. “hm?”
“scara, wait—let me think about it.”

Reflected in Someone's Eyes (Part 2)
Author: @astarionslittlejuicebox
Imagine: Astario’s POV after he waits to see what the reader has been working so diligently on since the mirror conversation.
Pairing: Astarion x F!Reader
Trigger warnings: Fluff, embarrassment, feelings of unworthiness, mentions of blood/vampires/etc, minor spoilers, suggestive themes
Word Count: 1243
Side Notes: E/C = Eye color, Y/N = your name, Y/R = your race, H/C = hair color
Part One
“Who knows? Only time will tell.” Y/N’s words rang through his head after that night. Quite a bit of events had happened to the party since the conversation Astarion had with Y/N that night, but the anticipation of what she had to show him was eating him alive. Tonight marked night three since he stumbled upon her engrossed in her mysterious book, and, after everyone had gone to bed for the night, Astarion waltzed his way towards his favorite tasty treat. She appeared as though she was waiting for him as she gave him a smile when he arrived at her tent entrance.
“Goodie. You came. I finished my surprise.” The prideful smile on her face made Astarion’s undead heart skip a beat. He cocked an eyebrow at her whilst he spoke.
“Oh? Well, don’t keep me waiting darling. Let’s see what dark fantasies you’ve been dreaming of in that book.” Astarion held his hand out expectantly, but he was surprised when Y/N put a single sheet of paper from the book into his hand.
“It’s not perfect. It seems to be hard to capture the exact essence of your appearance.” Her words were barely a whisper as he looked at the intricate sketch of himself. He marveled at the care this woman had taken to try and capture even the smallest detail of his hair. “You are quite the frustrating subject to capture using pencils though.” He glanced from the picture to look at her, but she was looking at the piece of art in his hand. “You see, your hair at the top of your head lies a certain kind of way, and I have been trying ceaselessly to make sure I got that part right. Alas, I have done the best I could do, but it’s far from perfect.”
“Well, it is quite hard to capture perfection.” Astarion spoke softly as he softly looked at the woman beside him. He admired how her H/C was falling out of the bun, and how her eyes shone with a sense of accomplishment when she looked at her handiwork in his hands.
“If I were back home, I would ask you to sit still long enough for me to try and paint a portrait of you.” Astarion knows his face gave away his shock.
“My, my, my, my tasty little treat is also an artist. Who knew?” Even Astarion was shocked by the softness in his voice as he took a good look at his traveling companion. The days of travel had taken a toll on her, and the evidence was clear on her face. The long days and short nights had made her bright eyes shine just a little duller; the fight with the Githyanki had also left her with a few new cuts and bruises. She was not the same person he had held a dagger to her throat all those days ago, nor was Astarion the same person that he was when he met her.
“I do love art.” Y/N said, bringing Astarion back to reality. “I also love exploring new methods and stroke styles of the brush to see what effects it has with the paint. I’d honestly love to give painting you an attempt. If I hate it, then we shall invest in some gold for you to have a portrait done.” Astarion could see the genuine enthusiasm on his companion’s face, and he felt sick to his stomach. How could it be that a woman whom he was bedding for solely protection be so caring for him?
That’s right, Astarion thought, she has no idea that was my sole intention. But as the pale elf engraved the look of admiration on Y/N’s face and the gratefulness of such a sweet gesture somewhere deep in his mind, he felt guilty. He certainly didn’t deserve her kindness.
“Perhaps I may hold you up to that statement, darling.” The sincere words left his mouth. He wasn’t afraid to admit that he would love to have a painting of himself so he can see just how much 200 years of Cazador has affected his appearance. She gave him a heartwarming smile, but it faltered a bit as she looked over his face.
“Why do you look like you’re guilty of something?” Her words made him frown slightly more than he had been previously.
“Guilty? My darling the only thing I’m guilty of is looking too damn fine for you to capture on paper.” He casually said, but the pang of guilt still hung heavy on his chest. Astarion gave her his signature smile as he asked her if he could keep the picture she drew of him. She gave him a beautiful smile in response.
“Absolutely. If I want to have a keepsake of you, I’ll just draw another one,” She gave him a wink, and Astarion chuckled. “I know it’s not as good as a mirror, but at least now you can see what your face kind of looks like.”
“It does give me a good idea.” Astarion folded the paper and put it in his pocket, but he really didn’t want to fold the picture. He didn’t want to admit to Y/N how much her effort to give him a visual of himself touched his heart. He didn’t deserve this, but she is so selfless and willing to give him everything: her time, her art, her body, and her blood. “I shall see you later, my darling, for my nightly taste?” She gave him a small nod.
“Unless you’d rather have some now?” Astarion smirked at her.
“Why not both?” He asked and she chuckled. “Kidding. But, I will take my taste now.” After he drank from her, he bid her good night. As he went to leave her tent, he turned back and looked at her.
“Thank you, again, Y/N. You continue to surprise me.” Afterward, he left her tent to go hunt for a delicious meal.
But that night, as Astarion lay in his bedroll, he took the picture out again to study it. He could see evidence of where Y/N had erased and redrew the top of his hair many times, and he could see she also struggled to get his lips just right. Moisture accumulated and fell from the corners of his eyes and onto the empty space around his portrait. Y/N was no professional artist, but she had attempted to sketch his portrait. She could’ve hidden it away too, kept it to herself until she perfected the very features she wanted to get right, but here her picture sits in his hands—fresh and far from the perfect picture. The pale elf wiped the water droplets off of the paper as he allowed himself to smile. Two hundred years of pain and torture, and this woman’s work over the last three days has sent an electric shock into Astarion’s chest; a shock that just might be enough to restart his heart. However, now that Astarion knew of his tasty friend’s talents, perhaps he could get her to draw more of him? The scars on his back had begun to weigh heavily on his mind since the night Y/N and Astarion shared. Maybe she would be willing to put on paper what secrets the scars on his back hold? But, for now, Astarion refolds the paper and puts it in the inside pocket of his backpack. He wouldn’t want anything to happen to the picture.

Angstpril 2024: Day 2 (1243 words)
Kya whistled an old tune of Sokka’s and opened the bedroom windows to let in the clean, spring air. She stuck her head outside and breathed in the scent of the flowers from the garden below. She looked out to the west where she could see the ocean, still dark in the pre-dawn shade. For a few quiet minutes, she watched the line of sunshine creep closer to the shore.
Once she could see the whitecaps closer to the rocks, she flared out the curtains and turned back into the bedroom. Lin would be back from her trip later today, and Kya wanted to give her a pleasant environment when she returned.
The curtains came down. The linens got washed and the blankets aired over the balcony. The books were taken down and dusted, the shelves cleaned before everything was returned to its original spot. She cleaned out her vanity, discarding items that had gotten dropped into drawers by accident. The mirror received a buff. She cleared off the surface and arranged everything neatly. And then made a note of the date so she could see how long it took her to clean it again.
Everything came out of the closet, except for Lin’s spare uniform. With a small cloth, Kya dusted it lightly but otherwise left it quite alone. The loads of laundry continued all morning long.
Before she stopped for lunch, she removed all of the furniture except the vanity and the bed. She mopped the floor so that it could dry while she ate.
The afternoon was lovely, so she lingered over her cold leftover noodles and glass of water. Tenzin wouldn’t count it as meditation, but she sure did.
A bird called overhead, and Kya awoke with a start. The sun was beginning to fall toward the horizon, and she realized that she’d taken quite the nap. She scrambled into the kitchen to clean up after herself, then nearly ran back to the living room to begin replacing the lamps, night tables, and chairs in the bedroom.
She was so proud of herself for finishing before Lin arrived that she dropped the rocking chair just a bit harder than she’d meant to.
And then she heard a small thump.
Frowning, she bent down to look underneath the seat of the chair. A small, black book was laying on the floor. She bent the rocker up so she could look at the underside. There was a small rope sling that was just large enough for the book when she tried replacing it.
The cover showed signs of wear, and she could feel the pen or pencil crammed inside the pages.
She couldn’t not look.
She opened the cover, and gave a scoff of surprise. A child’s drawing of Toph Beifong screamed out of the first page. And this wasn’t the Aunt Toph she remembered, yelling at everyone to widen their stances. Or the happy shouts when she’d play Hop Up with Lin and Tenzin and Su.
This face was enraged. While there was no skill to this drawing, Kya could not mistake the expression for anything but anger.
Without quite realizing it, she was sitting on the edge of the bed, her back to the door of the room. The chair sat on its back, its sleds pointing up to the ceiling, completely forgotten.
The next page showed a baby Su holding a stuffed badgermole. The longer she looked, the more Kya thought she remembered hearing about a stuffed animal having gone missing around the time of Lin’s birthday one year.
Teenaged Bumi glared out of the next page, his face barely visible behind a nearly closed door.
She gasped when she recognized herself, hand-in-hand with a Fire Nation girl, walking down a nondescript street.
Tenzin, his hands poised just above his scalp, cowered in a corner of a room she didn’t recognize.
Su reappeared, dangling from what must have been her old bedroom window, a look of terror on her face.
Kya’s heart raced. Page after page, she saw horrible moments, frozen as if captured by one of those new cameras. If one could be set up and the chemicals prepared to capture such fleeting moments.
She saw Su with two boys she didn’t recognize, a bag with jewels splayed out in the living room of their old house. She saw Su, smoking behind the school. She saw Su, kissing a girl on one page, and a boy on another.
Toph just wasn’t on any other page, but Kya saw her own mother, her face in her hands, and Kya’s sail tiny in the background.
Her father, on his deathbed.
Tenzin, flying away with the Avatar’s body to be taken to the sky to return into the weave of life.
One page was a little hard to decipher until Kya held it up so she could look at her brother’s proud face. He was pinning a medal, or maybe a new badge on Lin.
Kya flipped the pages forwards and backwards, but realized that was the only happy memory.
The cables that had cut her. The heartbroken look on Tenzin’s face, with Pema standing just past his shoulder. Some boy she thought she recognized stood with a ball of lightning in his hand, a waterbender to his right and an earthbender at his left.
She kept flipping pages, hoping for an end to the painful memories.
She screamed when she felt the hand on her shoulder, and fell across the bed, only to roll right off and crash against the rocker.
“Kya! It’s just me!”
Breathing heavily, Kya rolled and put her back to the wall, instinctively reaching for water, but not finding any.
Except Lin’s blood.
She recoiled and slammed her hands to the floor.
“Lin! I didn’t hear you! What is that book?!” she gasped.
Lin sighed heavily, sat on the bed, and retrieved the book from the floor. She held it closed in her hands, and something told Kya that she didn’t need to open it to remember every single image.
“This is where I keep my worst memories.” She paused, flexing the book in her hands. “I was actually thinking of throwing it away. Or burning it.”
Kya slumped against the wall, unsure what to say.
“I thought if I could catch those memories, keep them frozen on these pages, that they wouldn’t bother me anymore.”
Kya counted three breaths.
“But then there was the worst one of all. Seeing you on the floor of that cave where the Red Lotus dumped you.” Lin brought a hand up to cover her eyes. “I just couldn’t bring myself to draw that. I just couldn’t.”
Kya was frozen, unsure what to do to help her beloved.
Lin looked over at her, a sad smile tugging on her lips.
“But then you told me you loved me, and I knew why I couldn’t draw that moment.”
Kya allowed her face to show her confusion.
“Because my life wasn’t frozen at that point. It was like seeing you there unstuck me in time. Started me all over again. When we got back to the city and began seeing each other, it was like I wasn’t frozen anymore. I could be warm, and bright. If you loved me, there had to be something you could love.”
As if she herself had finally thawed, Kya lurched up to place her hands on Lin’s face and pull her in for a kiss.

Summary: The one where two parts of the soul found each other after thousands of years.
Tumblr media
They felt like all the air was taken from their lungs, and everything they heard was the beating of their own heart. Her eyes couldn’t leave the silhouette of the man standing before them. They only saw his dark eyes, and even if they saw them for the first time, they felt like they knew them better than anything. They watched how he raised his tattooed hand and uncovered his face, and they couldn’t help the small smile that came into their face. Masked people could start shooting every second, but at that moment, they could die as a happy person - they just saw the most handsome man on this planet. They saw it for the first time when they were awake but knew it was a face they had seen in their dreams. At the sound of his raspy voice, their heart lost a beat. The warrior moved closer, walking behind his people when Rick behind them said:  “I already told you I got him”. The Egyptian looked at them and felt silent for a moment. They could see a surprise in his eyes - as some memories had come to him. Both of them felt like everything was on the right track. It didn’t matter that the creature was alive - two parts of one soul found each other. They never wanted to believe in love at first sight, but when he stood before them, they couldn’t stop their heart from longing for him. Ardeth made himself raise his eyes at the American.“Know this, this creature is the bringer of death. He will never eat, he will never sleep, and he will never stop.” He moved his eyes at the women between them. “If you want to survive, leave this place.” At this moment, they could only watch his dark eyes, and then they nodded.“We will.” They hated how weak their voice sounded at that moment, but they could swear that the corner of his mouth rose just for a second, like he’d stop himself from smiling. They looked at each other before he turned and walked after his people. They didn’t turn their eyes, watching his silhouette disappear in the darkness. They couldn’t stop thinking about him the whole ride to Cairo. They tried to be helpful when Rick and Evelyn argued - they helped to patch up poor Mr Burns and rested a little before they’d tried to help Evy find a solution. They heard the woman screaming that it was their obligation since they woke up the monster, and they couldn’t agree more. When they were washing their hands, the water turned into blood, and they couldn’t stop a scream from their mouth. They were terrified when the fire started falling from the sky. It was a shock to see the man from the Hamunaptra in the museum. They exchanged a few looks, and it was enough for them to find a little peace in this madness, and for the first time in days, they felt safe. Madiaj told them the story of Imhotep and they started to get hope that they really could find a way to come out of this alive. When they finally agreed on what everybody needed to do and started walking to the car, they looked back at him one more time and smiled when they realised that he was watching them. “Miss/Mister…” he came closer to them, and they knew that Evy and Rick slowed a little while waiting for them, “Are you hurt?” At their surprised look, he moved his hand to point to a bloody stain on their clothes.“Oh, no... I’m not hurt. I was washing my hands when the water turned into blood...Thank you for asking. It’s very kind of you, Mr…” They smiled gently and noticed that the corners of his lips moved a little, just like he was close to smiling. “Ardeth Bay.” Her smile grew wider when they told him their name. The longing of their heart for him was surprising, just like how their body responded to even the smallest smirk. They wanted to know him better, even if they already felt that strange similarity in his presence.“I hope that all of your people are alright.” They wrapped their arms around themself to stop themself from trying to touch him. “They are.” They breathed with relief, nodding. “But they won’t hesitate to die if it will stop this creature.” Ardeth saw that pain came into their face hearing this sentence. He wanted to take it away from them, to hold them and keep them safe. He didn’t understand why he felt so attracted to them, but it was a nice feeling. They were like a breath of fresh air in the heat of the desert, and he wanted, no, he needed to feel it again. “I hope it won’t be necessary.” They heard Rick calling their name, and they turned to look at him. They knew that it was the moment that they should go. With every minute, Imhotep was closer to winning. They nodded at him and moved their eyes to the Egyptian. “Mr Bay, please be careful. I… I hope we meet again.” They gently touched his arm and moved to join Rick and Evy. Before they left the room, they looked again at Ardeth and smiled, and they could swear that for a few seconds, he did the same. Not everything worked in their favour. Egyptologist and Henderson were dead, Imhotep was nearly regenerated, and the only idea to beat him was only a legend. They anxiously walked after Rick and the rest of the team. Twisting their fingers, they watched how Evy tried to find the location of the Book of Amun-Ra. They were so lost in their mind that they didn’t notice Ardeth coming closer to them. He gently touched their elbow, making them jump. He looked at them apologetically, and they smiled nervously. “We met again.” He smiled at them, and they couldn’t help but laugh quietly. “We did. However, I hoped it could happen in a little calmer situation.” They looked straight into his eyes and felt like their heart had stopped for a moment. “I… I know it will sound weird if anything in that situation could be normal. I feel like I know you. Not from now, but like… like my soul finally was whole just by meeting you. It’s probably a wrong time to say it, but I felt like I had to do it.” They looked down at their shoes, feeling ashamed. They were afraid of his reaction, but who knows how long they would live. However, they didn’t see the smile forming on his face. He gently touched their chin and made them look at him again. “I know this feeling. Of everything being completed and in peace only because… you are here, next to me. I don’t understand it wholly, but maybe it also was destined in ancient times.” “Maybe that is the answer.” They smiled and touched his hand. Not caring about decency, they rose on their tiptoes and connected their lips. They felt his other hand fall on their hip, and their heart started beating faster. They found him, and they knew that whatever waits for them in future will end up happily. Two souls destined to stop the evil from ancient times found each other again. Like many times ago, they find a way to win.

All I Want: Elvis x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You decide it's time to let him go. Leave it behind. He begs you to stay.
warnings: adult language
word count: 1243
elvis x reader
you can imagine him as austin or as the real elvis, whatever floats your boat.
enjoy, or don't your choice.
theres a prompt that belongs to @hudsonvegasgirl ill put it in bold.
idk why the prompt looks like that wtf.
It took you three months to decide. Three long months of basic torture.
You had been doing nothing but taking care of your daughter and cleaning up after him. Trying to keep him at least alive.
You had nothing more to give anymore. It had all been drained from you.
He wasn't completely to blame; Elvis was just trying to be someone. Make everyone proud. You respected it.
You could no longer live with it.
Your daughter hadn't spent longer than fifteen minutes at a time with her father, in over two months. You haven't seen him for dinner. He hasn't been there. Except at night, to sleep.
Maybe some in the morning.
She hasn't had her father, and you haven't had your husband.
He was a ghost, a puppet.
He belonged to the Colonel, and to the show business. The only time he was happy as when he was on the stage, or out. Out, doing God knows what.
Three months.
You couldn't do it anymore.
That morning you woke up early, trying to be as quiet as possible. He was a hard sleeper from the beginning. With the pills, he was a bear. It was nearly impossible to wake him.
You were still quiet as a mouse, not to take any chances.
You weren't going to do wrong by him, though. Or your daughter.
The two of you would talk later that day, to avoid Lisa Marie hearing the two of you fight. The fighting had been endless.
You made your way through the house doing your best to get the things the two of you would need.
Mainly what Lisa needed, you would survive without your things. You just wanted your daughter to be in a healthy environment.
To be in a loving environment.
You had but most of the things you and Lisa would need in the car, that was outside and running, and you had woken her up gently, telling her that the two of you were going on a little vacation.
She would be back of course. He's her father and you would never take her from him. She needed him, and he needed her.
She was outside with Jerry, waiting on you to finish up.
You made your way quietly to the bedroom you shared with Elvis. Everything you needed had been removed. You moved quickly this time, becoming more nervous with each step. You turned to the dresser to check for any clothing you had left behind, when you heard him stir.
"Y/N? What're you doin" He grumbled sitting up to look at you.
You sighed, wishing the man would've just stayed asleep.
"Im leaving you Elvis, and I'm taking Lisa with me." You sighed, not wanting to fight while you daughter was nearby.
You moved towards the bedside table and grabbed one of the photos leaving the rest for him.
"Is this 'bout what happens on the road?" He asked, rubbing his temples.
You sighed and shook your head.
"The girls? No. You think I give a shit about the girls you sneak through the side door,"
You walked into the bathroom throwing open his drawer. He was following you still looking tired.
"I couldn't care less about the girls you sneak through the side door. It's about this,"
You through two bottles at him. Feeling tears prickle at your eyes
"And this!" You threw a couple more.
You loved him, but you were angry.
You wanted to be mature about this. You were parents, not children.
"It's about these. These goddamn pills those leeches and has-beens shove down your throat!"
You stormed out of the bathroom, him following you muttering a soft "God damn it."
You were making your way quickly through the upstairs while he was trying to keep up.
"Like your strung out."
"Strung out? Goddamn, I'm in the best shape of my life."
"Best shape of your life? The only time you are happy is when you are on that stage, and in between that you're a ghost."
The two of you were walking down the stairs, your arms full of sentimental items.
"Y/N I give you everything you could want!" He threw his arms up, starting to return the anger you were feeling.
"What I want is a husband! You've never known what I wanted, and you sure as hell don't give it to me." You spat, reciving a hurt look from him.
"I am your wife! I am your wife." You repeat, letting a tear slip down your cheek.
"And Lisa is your daughter, and she needs a father." You say, turning on your heels. You were finally headed for the door.
"I am her father."
You slowed at this and turned to face him.
Your voice was shaky and embarrassingly small.
"Do you remember the last time we laughed together? The last time the three of us had dinner together?"
You had started crying, placing the box you held on to the floor.
"You won't even touch me anymore."
He looked at you with sad eyes, and he was supporting his weight on the rail of the stairs.
"I've given you my life. I have nothing left in me to give you baby." You sobbed.
His eyes were the blueest you've ever seen them. You loved his eyes.
"Do you still love me?" He asked softly.
You wanted to scream yes and run back to him. Of course you did, he was your life. The father of your child.
He shook his head and slowly sat on the stairs.
He exhaled deeply
"When your forty and I'm fifty, we'll be back together. You'll see." He was looking at the ground.
Your heart broke for him. For you. Most of all for your daughter.
You gave in, just a little, and walked towards him slowly. He buried his head in your stomach and cried, like you've never heard him cry before.
He gripped forcefully to the back of your shirt; you knew you had to wrap it up.
"I have to go." You tried to take a step back, but he held you in place.
You got a little space between you, and you knelt to look at him. You took his face in your hands.
"Will you please stay?" He sobbed, looking at you with those sad eys.
"Baby you're sick. This isn't good for you. For me, for Lisa! I love you more than anything EP, but I have to protect her."
You weren't being stern; you were speaking to him with kindness.
You kissed all over his face. Wiping the tears away.
"Please stay mama, I'll get better, I'll quit with the pills. Anything you want. Don't leave, don't leave me. "
"I promise you. On my mother's grave I'll get better, I can't do it without you baby."
You held him closer, knowing that he truly meant what he said.
He would never put something like that on his mother's grave.
"No pills?"
He shook his head.
"You spend more time with Lisa?"
He nodded; face still covered in tears.
"You get healthy and start taking care of yourself?"
He nodded, staying silent.
You sighed, knowing the last part was the most personal for you.
You had tried to pretend like it didn't matter, but it does to you.
"No more, no more girls?" You let another tear slip.
"No more. I'll go to a real doctor. I'll get better, I swear it."
You nodded, looking around at your home and all the memories of your years there.
"Okay EP."
He looked up at you still clinging to your waist.
"You'll stay darlin?" He let out another sob.
"Lisa will go stay with my parents for a while. She'll think it's a vacation. This is it Elvis, the last chance."
He nodded, burying his face in your shirt again.
"Anything. Anything for you Y/N."

Title: The Count of Monte Cristo
Author: Alexandre Dumas
Pages: 1243
"Thrown on prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantès is confined to the grim fortress of If. There he learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the Isle of Monte Cristo and he becomes determined not only to escape, but also to use the treasure to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarceration. Dumas' epic tale of suffering and retribution, inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment, was a huge popular success when it was first serialised in the 1840s."
The book club strikes again. I have to say that I needed some time to get into the story. The plot summary (above) didn't quite convince me that it's enjoyable, BUT I stand corrected. Although I was able to guess many plot points and relations between the characters I had fun in doing so and even more when I was right. As someone who doesn't speak French I sometimes had difficulties with pronouncing the names of people and places, but it was only a small hindrance.
Which amused me the most was that a book written 180 years ago uses the saying "cool as a cucumber" (at least the English translation, I don't know how it was written in French).
Memorable quotes:
'So remain a fisherman, don't dream of things that will make reality seem even more terrible to you - and be content with my friendship, because I cannot give you anything else.'
'In business, Monsieur, as you very well know, one has no friends, only associates.'
'But there are twenty-four hours in a day, sixty minutes in an hour and sixty seconds in a minute. A lot can be done in eighty-six thousand four hundred seconds.'
'Human justice is inadequate as a consolation: it can spill blood for blood, that's all. But one must only ask it for what is possible, not for anything more.'
'(...) all human wisdom is contained in these two words: 'wait' and 'hope'.'

You knew that day was weird as soon as you woke up to half of your hybrids staring at you. S. Coups, Jun, Woozi, Wonwoo, Mingyu and Vernon were distributed around the room with their eyes trained on you, not missing a single movement. It was a little creepy to be honest. But you’re especially suspicious of them when you start to get up and all of them approach your bed too quickly for them to be innocent.
“What did you guys do?” You moaned as at least three of those huge beings decided it was a good idea to jump and bury you back in bed.
“What do you mean!?” Jun whined while he rubbed his cheeks on your side. “Did you forget what day it is today?”
“Hm… no? I’m almost sure I’m not forgetting any important dates, I have your birthdays on alarm.” You were so distracted by Wonwoo and Seungcheol snuggling on your side and stomach that you missed the look the other hybrids exchanged. Their hearts were warm with your care but they weren’t that happy that you didn’t know what was happening.
It took almost thirty minutes for you to be able to get up and to freshen up. The boys escorted you to the kitchen, where you found the rest of the hybrids running around and cooking. There wasn’t much chaos, Jeonghan and Joshua had the younger ones under control and everyone was doing their best in what seemed to be a serious and important mission.
“Morning, what’s the banquet for?” You joked as you counted the number of plates they were just getting ready at the dinner table. The words made everyone stop and stare at you with incredulous eyes. Even The8, who had stopped looking at you like you’re stupid all the time, was frozen and seemed to doubt his own ears.
“I can’t believe it.” One of them said, the ones behind you started to laugh. They refused to tell you what was happening after they accepted you had forgotten whatever it was.
“Well, today will be interesting…” Seungkwan also laughed as he sat at the dinner table. Most of the boys followed, also grinning. Hoshi was soon next to you and guided you to your chair at the head of the table.
“So, really? No one is going to tell me what is happening?” You love your boys, of course, but they were starting to annoy you. Especially since you had a not so great night of sleep previous to that. DK whined with your slightly harder tone but before any could react, your phone rang. Your brows furrowed when you saw who the caller was. “I have to take it. I’ll try to be quick so we can eat together.”
You smiled at them and went to another room, not forgetting to caress Dokyeom’s head as you passed by him. Thanks to the urge of your phone, you failed once again to notice the telepathy exchange between the hybrids with their eyes. It looked like they all understood some secret message in those 2 seconds you took to leave the room.
The story of the person on the other side of the call made you freeze, forgetting completely about the secrecy of your roommates. You were trembling a little while you rushed around the living room after your wallet and keys, not even noticing the art supplies on the sofa.
“What happened, Y/n? Where are you going?” Seungcheol asked you and all the others were behind him, probably also wanting the same answers.
“There’s a scarlet case. The team is needed as soon as possible.” You responded as you put on your coat. “Jun can explain it in more detail… But I need to go now, I'll be back as soon as all of this is resolved, ok?” Kissing Coups’ cheek and waving the others goodbye, you ran to your car and were soon out of view. The hybrids were silent for a minute before all the eyes were on Jun. The poor feline hybrid scratched his head and sighed.
“A scarlet case is like when Coups-hyung found her…” The other 12 hybrids haven’t heard this term before, Junhui himself only heard it by accident when he was trying to smell your scent in your office when you had disappeared and JayB was talking on the phone outside the door. “When a member of the organization is in life danger and more drastic actions have to happen.”
This simple explanation was enough to make all the boys worry about your situation. They were starting to cancel all their plans for the special day and some were even already cleaning up all the traces of any party. Seungcheol, Jihoon and Soonyoung exchanged looks and nods before stepping up to their somewhat natural roles in the family.
It was really late when you came back, like around 10 p.m. late. As soon as you opened the door, you could feel the anxiety coming from the boys, who had crowded the entrance hall. Smiling at them, you reassured all that you were fine and the case was a success. You just needed a bath and were ready to give them all your attention, glad that the day after was a day off.
“No time for bath, Y/n! We need you quickly here!” BooSeokSoon didn’t even let you protest that you were still smelling blood before dragging you to your dining room. You tried to call the others, maybe the more rational ones like Woozi or Wonwoo to help you but none of the other hybrids met your desperate and curious eyes.
Joshua came from behind, taking advantage of your arms being locked in the dog hybrids, and blocked your eyes with his hands. Your instincts, still tense because of the case, tried to kick in but the hybrids had got much stronger than you in those months with gym access. Just as you were going to tell them to cut it, they freed you completely.
“Happy Birthday!” All of the 13 hybrids congratulated you with loud voices. Even the still kinda standoffish The8! You took all of it in silence, looked around the room, seeing their efforts in the decorations and the food still hot on the table. “Y/n?” Vernon took a step closer to you, worried about your lack of response. They all were… The day hasn't gone the way they had planned and none of them really knew how to celebrate a birthday… They were scared you hated all of it.
“I… Thank you, guys. I loved it.” Your eyes were full of tears as you made the point of looking every single one in their eyes. “I really loved it. Thank you.” The last time you had received such care on such a day, which means more than a ‘happy birthday’ whispered during missions, was before your parents were gone.
You hugged all of them and couldn’t stop to thank them. Yes, even Minghao accepted your hug with a little pat on your back before taking two steps to separate and go out of your reach. Your new family sat around the table, everyone more than happy and warm.
Your tears ran down your face while the smile you had on became more and more bright, knowing that while you helped them with their trauma, they were also healing you. You blew your candles seconds before midnight.

Just A Little Mysterious
Mysterio!/Quentin Beck x Vigilante!/ Wife! Reader
*Set during the events of Spiderman 2*
Summary: What-if Quentin Beck had a wife during the events of Spider-Man 2, and helped Miles fix the situation
Trigger Warning: Kidnapping, Unconsciousness, Violence, and Emotional Distress
Word Count: 1243 Words
Quentin Beck was rushing to the main Mysterium in the Coney Island Fair. A work of art expertly designed by him and his team.
Although hesitant at first of using the Mysterio name and image to advertise and promote the new form of entertainment, Betsey and Cole told him that they were remaking his image and showing the world that he is not a bad guy, just that he had done bad things in the past. When his lovely wife Y/n got hold of this information she just about burst.
~~~
"God, they can't just force you to be someone you're not anymore. This is ridiculous. You are Quentin Beck not some super-villain. You've done so much to move past that life and to dredge that up for some ad-revenue, it's sickening"
She furiously started typing on her phone presumably to Betsey or Cole or both. Carefully I removed the phone from her frenzied hands and turned it off.
"Sweetheart it's okay. I think it will be good to give a new life to Mysterio. Show the world that people can change. Maybe inspire some others to change along the way"
Quentin wrapped his arms around her gently and started to sway. He could feel her anger drip away with every deep breath she took.
He knew she learned this technique from the same therapist he was court mandated. When she was calm enough she gave him a big squeeze signaling she was ready to talk and that she wasn't going to speak out of anger.
"Sorry, I just know how hard you've worked to separate Mysterio from Quentin. I just don't want to you lose progress over some buisness decision someone forced upon you"
"I know but I understand that Mysterio is an act I will put on to help the world now. Quentin is the man behind the mask who deals with the paperwork and who has a loving wife to come home to"
She smiled up at him with her soft lips. He leaned down to give her a quick peck.
"As long as you always come home to me"
"There is no one else in the world that I rather would"
~~~
He should have listened to her that day. Took himself and his former villain name off the menu. Now he was running to save his wife from what ever mess he had got her into in the first place.
Once Beck arrived at the Mysterium he was swiftly deal with. Told to put handcuffs on and his (now former) business partners would lead him to Y/n.
Only, once he was standing in a maintenance closet, and he turned around to demand to know where his wife was, he was swiftly knocked out with the butt of a gun and his head smacked against the cabinet beside him.
He could only hope his wife was okay wherever she was.
~~~
Inside a stupid snow globe of New York with nothing to do except hope to find a way out. Which for however long Y/n was in there, she couldn't find.
Frustration brewing, she preemptively started her breathing exercises. She wanted to call out to Quentin, but knowing exactly who was behind the mystery now it seemed useless.
Her friend Miles Morales asked for her help with solving the cases with the Mysteriums, which she happily obliged. She knew this would help Quentin and Spider-Man solve the case laid out before them. However, the more they uncovered the more her husband seemed to be the culprit, but she knew him like no one else.
She saw him cry when he came home from work, and get frustrated at the technology as well as his co-founders. Never angry enough to do the things the dev tapes insinuated.
Then she thought back to the day when she lost her cool in front of Beck. He calmed her down and everything was starting to make sense. Then she went to confront the two women, Quentin had once called friends, and she landed here.
In a snow globe.
Just as she was starting to lose hope Miles crashed into the tiny New York City and a fight ensued.
She knew what Miles thought, after all he dismissed her help and told her to stop looking into the case. "Conflict of interest", he stated. But went he saw her in the same predicament as him, he understood he had the situation pegged wrong.
She gave him a little wave and they got to work. He was taking out the Mysterio floating around while she was taking out the green goons on the ground with a baton and her Red Room training.
Once Miles turned Mysterio to green mist, he grabbed her hand and we swung towards the portal. Her hair swung around as they whipped through an upside down New York City.
When they swung through the next portal Quentin Beck was standing there holding his chest and breathing heavily in his Mysterio costume.
"Baby"
Y/n was running towards him and held him up a little. He smiled at her and brushed a strand of hair behind her hear.
"I'm so glad you're okay, Darling" He quietly whispered in her ear.
He did his best to turn to Spider-Man, and said the best advice he could,
"Keep fighting. Keep doubting. It is the only way to defeat him"
After a bright flash of purple both Y/n and Miles were in a Coney Island graveyard facing multiple Mysterios. Together they made quick work of the copies finally facing the 'true' Mysterio. The fight was happening fast and Mysterio held Y/n is a chokehold and threw her into a gravestone.
While worried about her the fight for their lives continued. In one final punch Mysterio disappeared and they were in the main room once again.
The illusion broke for the final time, and Miles finally saw Y/n sprawled out on the ground, unconscious. Quickly, he broke the door down to reveal Cole furiously typing on a computer and Betsey yelling to get the illusion back on.
Miles made quick work webbing them up, and inspecting the bumps coming from the closet door.
"I knew you'd find us"
~~~
As the police took Betsey and Cole away. Quentin took Y/n to a nearby ambulance, which she was trying to resist but eventually gave into.
Miles rested on top on the Mysterium roof. When Y/n was getting checked out Quentin appeared on the roof next to him.
"still have a lot of questions"
"this should clear things up"
"so can I tell everyone Mysterio's a good guy now?"
A small laugh escaped Beck's mouth.
"Mysterio will always be a villain. Just as Spider-Man always be a hero. It's when you start looking at the people behind the masks that things get messy"
They both looked at Y/n who was laughing at Quentin's jokes, and when Miles turned to look at Beck he was gone.
~~~
"Are you truly okay Darling?" Quentin asked as they closed the door to their apartment.
"Yeah I promise I'm doing just fine"
He looked deep into Y/n's eyes and held her close to him. He breathed in the scent of her hair which mingled with sweat and blood.
"I almost lost you"
That's when the tears started to make their way down his face. She held him a little tighter.
"I'm here and I'm not going anywhere"
This Death That I Chose: Chapter 10
1243 words
~~~
They met for the first time when they were brought to the shack and lined up against the wall. Karlo thought they were about to be shot, and they were, in a way. One of the soldiers – they would quickly and unforgettably learn that his name was Gordon – counted down the line, pointing at each of them.
“One, Two, Three, Four,” he dubbed them, “Those are your names now. Don’t forget ‘em!”
Karlo was third in line, and he was visibly shaking with terror. He flinched when he felt a touch; Two had reached out to take his hand, and One’s as well. He squeezed Karlo’s clammy fingers and smiled down at him.
“It’ll be okay,” he whispered.
Karlo nodded, and feeling like it was the right thing to do, grabbed Four’s hand and exchanged a look with him as well. A look that said, Even if we die, we are together. Even if we are strangers, we are together.
And then, all that happened was another one of the soldiers – Holt – took their picture. But they had no time to feel relieved; when Holt lowered the camera, he said, “I like Three.”
“Scrawny little thing,” Gordon scoffed.
“Bet he’s a virgin, though,” Holt grinned, “Dibs.”
~~~
Days later, after they’d learned how to be silent, to be ripped open, to be obedient, the four of them huddled together on the mattress in the shack. They hated the mattress, they hated the things that happened on it, but it was their only barrier between their battered bodies and the frozen ground. Two pressed against Three closer than the others ever dared and they spoke in whispers so quiet they hardly moved air through their lips. “Listen,” Two said, and they held their breath to just barely make out a shrill, stuttering birdsong.
“That’s a horned lark,” Two said, “It’s the only species of lark in North America. But there are forty-two subspecies. I don’t know if I can list them all anymore, but…”
He’d fill Three’s ears with knowledge of the birds to to distract, to transport, to keep out the nightmares.
It almost worked.
~~~
Three months in, Three laid his head on Two’s chest, and listened to his ragged breathing and faltering heart. He held his breath, as if depriving himself of air would provide more for his love. He pressed his hands to Two’s bloody face and whispered back everything he knew about larks.
The silence was the loudest thing he’d ever heard when Two’s heart stopped.
He didn’t cry.
~~~
When Three was the only one left, they took him to a different building. A house, like the one Three never allowed himself to think about. They made him shower twice, trimming his hair in between, and dressed him in nice clothes. They sat him on the couch, and took his picture again.
Then the Commander came home.
He’d looked at Three, with his glacier-blue eyes, and asked, “What’s your name?”
“Three,” was the whispered response.
“No, your proper name,” the Commander rumbled.
Three thought. He thought for a dangerously long time. Because he knew, he’d already decided, that Karlo was dead. Karlo had died lined up against a wall, holding hands with equally doomed strangers. Nothing bad ever happened to Karlo. Karlo was never beaten. Karlo was never raped. Karlo never watched his friends wither away and die. Karlo never lost the only person he’d ever fallen in love with. Karlo lived a good life, that ended too soon.
But if he couldn’t be Three, he had to be something else. So he said the first thing he could think of. Something that made him feel safe.
“My name is Lark.”
And Lark survived.
~~~
“How’s my little bird?” The Commander’s voice vibrated through Lark’s body as he sat in the Commander’s lap, his back pressed to the old man’s hard chest. “They didn’t hurt you, did they?”
They were in the backseat of the Commander’s SUV, nestled together in uncomfortable closeness as the car sped along southwards, towards the Capital. Between the tinted windows and the privacy screen isolating them from the driver, they may as well have been in their own little world of domineering power and barely-disguised fear.
“No, sir,” said Lark. They hadn’t hurt him – they’d had every opportunity and reason to, but they hadn’t. Not even Tao. Lark had cried in front of him, and had only been met with comfort and care. The last little bit of him that saw something like the Commander in Tao had disappeared then, banished by Tao’s gentle touch and words. Lark had been held by another man and hadn’t felt an ounce of fear. He knew it was wrong. He knew it was a betrayal of the Commander.
“Who’s shirt is this?” The Commander reached between the straps of Lark’s sling, undoing the top two buttons of the shirt. He slipped his hand inside, caressing Lark’s chest while his other hand squeezed Lark’s hip.
Lie.
NOT ALLOWED.
“Tao’s.” The name came out before he could stop it.
“Who’s that, pet?”
Lie! Lie!
NOT ALLOWED.
“He’s one of their leaders,” Lark admitted, “Along with… another man, Vic, and a woman, Becca.” His stomach twinged with guilt.
“Is Tao the man you were just with?” the Commander asked knowingly.
FUCKING LIE YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT.
Not allowed.
“Y… Yes, sir.”
“Did he fuck you?” The Commander pinched Lark’s nipple, and he moaned automatically in response.
“Mmn… No, sir, no, he didn’t.”
“Did any of them?”
Lark had to explain. He had to explain it right.
“I tried everything to get get to you, sir, I ran away but they caught me, I tried to tell them what I am, but they didn’t want to trade me back for anything, so I tried to show them, sir, I wanted them to send me back, so I tried to…” Lark gasped, searching for words.
“You let them fuck you?” the Commander murmured into Lark’s shoulder.
Lark’s heart pounded. He couldn’t read the Commander’s voice, and couldn’t see his face from where he was positioned.
“I thought if I proved to them that I was a whore, your whore, they would send me back to you.”
“So you did it for me.”
“Yes, sir!”
“Good,” the Commander’s hand slid down from Lark’s hip to massage between his legs, “Good boy.”
Desperately obedient, Lark rolled his hips into the touch with a performative, needy whine.
“You did the only thing you know how to do,” the Commander soothed, “It’s all you could have done.” He kissed Lark’s shoulder.
“Sir,” Lark was asking the question before he knew it, “What will happen to the captured rebels?”
The hands touching him paused. Lark’s heart skipped a beat – he shouldn’t have asked that. Pets don’t have opinions. Pets aren’t curious.
But the Commander answered him.
“I’ve told you what would happen to anyone who tried to take you away from me.” He released Lark’s nipple to brush the young man’s hair aside and kiss the tattoo around his neck.
A chill poured over Lark’s body, and he just barely resisted shivering.
Tao – and anyone else the Commander’s men had managed to capture – would die.
And it was all Lark’s fault.
You have to do something.
Not allowed.
YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.
[Not allowed]
YOU. YOU.
YOU.
The Commander breathed heavily into Lark’s ear.
“How about you show me how much you missed me?”

Writing/Art Update 9.12.2023
Getting this over with so I can restart my word count clock. :P
So, the damage for the week was 1243, which doesn't sound great, but hear me out: it was a thing I have been putting off forever and it was really hard.
Maybe let's back up a little. Please forgive me for actually talking about my fanfic, but this is helpful for My Process. This is really long, so I am going to throw it under a cut.
As far as the rest of the update, I drew a renruki doodle this week, which is better than drawing nothing, like I usually do.
(also, I very much did a bunch of other things this week and also spent a lot of important time Having Unnecessary Anxiety about something else. I really only had two writing days, which also contextualizes this a fair amount)
This is about Ductwork, the next part of HiaM. The thing about HiaM is that the large tentpoles of it were determined by a great deal of daydreaming I did between 2016 and 2018, and then I started writing it down in 2019. Not Broken, Just Bent was a straight brain-dump. See You on the Other Side required a little modification, but also went pretty much to plan. The problem with Between Tides is that I had never bothered to think about a bunch of the actual details of the mystery they had to solve, and it turned out to be a lot of work (or at least, I thought so at the time). It also sort of destroyed the momentum I had going of writing very quickly (or it's possible that seven months into my fanfic renaissance, it was just a natural slow down). Call Me Back was where it went off the rails. It was supposed to be short, and I was supposed to finish it in 3 mo (it took 7, which now feels incredibly fast to me), but it turned into something else entirely. I was ruined at this point. Hearts, in its original embodiment, was supposed to be, like 10k words about a stupid party, and it obviously was something else. So, anyway, here I am. The point of the next story in the series was to do the telling of the story of how Renji messed up his arm, interwoven with the story of getting it fixed. Like, 20k tops, right? (It is currently at, like 23k and much closer to the start than the end)
I think the first mistake I made was back in 2019, I actually wrote out the story of how Renji broke his arm. (Never let yourself write out of order. I still maintain moonlighting around other parts of the timeline is what is responsible for my Failure to Complete this Story in a Timely Manner). My thoughts at the time was that I would mostly be able to integrate it, as-is, into the story that I am working on now, so it was basically just working ahead.
And that's where I am now.
The thing is, the story isn't very, um, integratable. My original vision for this was that it would be in the form of a story Rukia tells to Byakuya. If you've read the story, you know that wouldn't work, even a little, because it's not written in any sort of story-telling voice. I think I was hoping I could have Rukia start talking and then ::hit sepia-toned flashback effect:: and sliiiide into flashback space. I hate that though, because then you get literally the same ambiguous stuff from canon Bleach, where I am honestly not sure what Renji said out loud to Ichigo during the Big Renruki Backstory Flashback. A very distinctive part of the Renji-breaks-an-arm story is kissing and I did not want it to be even remotely implied that Rukia told Byakuya about the kissing. The other thing is that while the proximate cause of Renruki's trauma in this story is the Arm Breaking Incident, there's a second, prior incident, which is the Boar Incident. I'm trying to figure out how to construct a story that is really about these two past incidences, but it glued together by the current narrative and it is hard as Hell, why am I doing this??? (I am doing this, because if I can pull it off, I think it will be really cool). I also keep doing the thing where I wonder if maybe I need to stop it, it's too ambitious, it's ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag, I need to focus more on a writable story. If I can carve it down small enough, maybe I can just get through it, to something I'm more excited about writing (or maybe I could try to get excited about writing this??)
Anyway, what I did last week was to rewrite the first part of Renji-Breaks-an-Arm into a flashback that slots into the first chapter between the cold open and the next scene of the fanfic. This gives me 2899 contiguous words of Chapter One. The whole time I was doing the re-write, I kept asking myself how much I should actually be rewriting. On one hand, I feel like everyone who reads my stories has read Renji-Breaks-an-Arm, and I owe you all something new. On the other hand, as I was working on it, I kept wondering if I was replacing something good with something worse. On the third hand, I've never liked the beginning of Renji-Breaks-an-Arm. Anyway, I did it. It's mostly revamped, but I did keep a few lines. Is it perfect? Probably not. Will I rewrite it later? Will I replace it with the original version? I might. It's there, though, a load-bearing flashback, and I can go forward from here (maybe! that's what I get to figure out next!)
All of this is terrible, I hate using my brain, but hopefully this is part where it starts turning into a story. I do like it when a story comes out the other side. That part is nice. It's also possible all of this will turn into a mess and a failure, and then I'll have to start over, but you know. It won't be the first time. Also, at this point, I am deeply experienced in seeing a pile of horrible garbage somehow Come Together Eventually, so I'm trying to stay optimistic here.
Word count: I am now up to three working documents!! (not linearly independent) Main doc: 20,765 Misc flashback doc: 2,633 Clean, contiguous version: 2,899
Progress towards arbitrary 20k word goal I set for myself last spring: 15,698 (4,302 to go!!)

Has anyone actually gone through the anime and counted how many canon days have passed each episode and calculated a bare minimum of how many years it had to have been?
Like, quick math (very quick. I may have missed something) from the wiki: There's 1243 episodes, not including the movies, so that's about 3.4 years if each episode covers one day. Many episodes cover more days.
I don't have access to all the pokemon episodes, and I don't have the patience to do the watching and math, but I am curious.

On 6th December 1214 King Alexander II aged 16 was crowned on the Stone of Destiny on Moot Hill at Scone Palace, Perthshire.
A direct follow on from Sunday’s post, William the Lion having died at Stirling, they didn’t hang about in arranging his son’s coronation, it makes me wonder if some of the dates are 100% accurate, Willam died, was buried at Arbroath and the 16 year old Alexander crowned within two days.
Alexander II was born on 24th August, 1198 at Haddington, East Lothian, the only son of King William, he succeeded to the throne of Scotland on the death of his father and  went on to have quite an eventful reign.
The following year witnessed an uprising by the clans Meic Uilleim and MacHeth, inveterate enemies of the Scottish crown, but forces loyal to the king put down the insurrection. Alexander gave his support to his southern neighbour’s rebellious barons in the hope of re-acquiring Northumbria for the Scottish crown. This policy enraged the volatile King John, who sent an army north into Scotland to ‘hunt the red fox cub from his lair’. The English armies burnt Berwick and sacked the Scottish border castles.
Alexander eventually contracted a marriage with John’s daughter, Joan in June 1221, hoping that her brother, the new English King, Henry III, would grant him the province as her dowry, Henry, however would not comply and both sides nursed resentments of the other.
The following year saw the subjection of the semi-independent district of Argyll. Alexander’s forces crushed a revolt in Galloway in 1235, an invasion attempted soon afterwards by its exiled leaders similarly met with failure. Soon afterwards, a claim for homage from Henry III of England provoked a counter-claim from Alexander to the northern English counties.
The dispute between the two countries was settled by a compromise in 1237. At a council at York in 1237, when a temporary peace was negotiated, Alexander again brought up the subject of his claim to Northumbria, the Treaty of York defined the boundary between England and Scotland as running between the Solway Firth in the west and the mouth of the River Tweed in the east.
Joanna died childless in March, 1238 in Essex and on 15 May of the following year Alexander took as his second wife Marie, the daughter of Enguerrand de Coucy, this marriage succeeded in producing an heir to the Scottish throne on 4th September, 1241, named Alexander in honour of his father. Alexander also fathered an illegitimate daughter, Marjorie, who was married to Sir Alan Durward, the self styled Count of Atholl and Justiciar of Scotia, the couple had three children.
Henry III threatened an invasion of Scotland in 1243, but did not receive the support of the English barons and was compelled to make peace with the Scots the following year at Newcastle.
Alexander II embarked on an expedition to recover the Hebrides from the Norwegians and died of a fever on his galley by the Island of Kerrera, in the Bay of Oban in the Inner Hebrides on 1st July, 1249 and was buried at Melrose Abbey in Roxburghshire. He was succeeded by his son, Alexander III by Marie de Coucy.

Babies with Seb: Part two
Tumblr media
Hey, guys, I have had this in my drafts, silly me thought I had posted it.
Pairing: Sebastian Stan x Female reader
Warning: Angst, fluff, dirty talk. happy ending
Word count: 1243
A/N: I give no permission for my work to be copied, translated and or posted anywhere else online.
When we got back to my place, I added today’s ultrasound photos to my collection on my fridge as Sebastian came up behind me, wrapping his hands around my middle and rubbing his hand on my belly. God, it feels so good having his hands on my body, I lean my head back onto his shoulder “So how are you feeling after seeing our babies?” I ask him as he rubs circles on the spot where baby B is kicking “It was amazing, I love them so much and I have not even met them yet” As he spoke he pressed the heal of his hand gently into the spot where baby B had been kicking causing her to kick he hand again “it amazes me that we created these little human beings inside of you” he tells me with a sense of wonder in his voice almost as if he is about to start crying again. Grabbing his hand, I pull him out of the kitchen and back into the living room so we can both sit on the couch. I start laughing as I think about all this couch has gone through and how I should probably burn it before my parents visit this weekend and sit on it. “What’s so funny?” Sebastian asks “Just thinking about how should not let my parents sit on this couch when they visit this weekend,” I say through my laughter.
I laugh even harder when he gets a confused look on his face “I mean would you let your mum sit on the couch that her grandchildren might have been conceived on?” with that he starts laughing “no you are probably right I would not let my mum sit on a couch that her grandchildren were conceived on. “Oh, so now they were conceived on this couch? Uhm and not on my bed or in my shower?” I ask him seductively with a sexy sweet smile. “Oh baby, they were made the second I came inside of your sweet pussy, the other times were just me making sure I got the job done right” he replied his voice getting all sexy and deep. He gently grabs my face in between his hands bringing his lips to mine. As I deepen the kiss I move myself onto his lap, feeling his hard length rub against my clothed core. “Mmm baby as must as I would love to be inside you and God I want to believe me I want to, we need to talk about what is going to happen going forward,” Sebastian asks while still rubbing my core with his cock. “Because I want you to move in with me, I want to go to sleep with you in my arm and for you to be the first thing I see when I wake up. I want to make my apartment a home for us to raise our children in. I want to spend the rest of my life with you creating a family. But I need to know if that is what you want” he stops talking and stares at me waiting for me to say something.
God, I want to tell him that I want all of that as well but I am scared that one day he will wake up one day surrounded by babies and all the chaos they bring and realise that this is not want he wants anymore. After staring back at him for what felt like forever I decided that the only way that I would know is to tell him, so I did “God Seb that sounds perfect and God do I want all of that I really do” “Why do I feel that there is a but coming” he interrupts me “because there is. But I am scared that you will wake up one day and remember what your life was like before you had children and resident us until you finally have enough of us and kick us out. Like my dad did to my mum and me” I look into his beautiful blue eyes, which I can not help, but want our children to have, are shining with emotions “And before you say it, I know you are not my father but my just scared that if I let you in, which I want to so badly, but all I can think about is that we… I wave my hand around my belly… will get hurt” As I tell Sebastian how I am feeling, his hand move up my body and wrap around my shoulders “Baby, I will not say that we won’t have disagreements because all couples do but I can tell you that from the second I stepped on outside your door the morning after we were together all I wanted was to knock on your door and have you back in my arms. The only thing stopping me was that you told me that this was a one-time thing, that you didn't want more, plus I had a meeting that I could not miss with Marvel” he adds at the end trying to lighten the mood.
It works I start laughing, and after a couple of seconds, I reply “When I woke up that morning and saw that you were gone, at first I was relieved that I did not have to face the reality of what I did the night before, God my first one night stand, but as I lay there thinking about you and everything we did together I could not help be a little angry and disappointed that you have left. When I found out I was pregnant I could help but feel disappointed that you were not there holding my hand as we waited for the results. I pushed that side and tried to find a way to tell you and when you did not reply or even read the message I was hurt but I pushed past it and got on with my life, getting ready for my babies and now here you are being all perfect, saying all the right things, all the things I want and God do I want them with you but I need time, I need you to show me not just tell me that you are not going anywhere, that you are all in with me and our children and I will take some time but if you are willing so am I.” We sit there staring at each other for what seems like forever when I realise that I am still on his lap but when go to move he tightens his arms around me as if he is scared if I move he will lose me. “Baby I can not fix the past no matter how much I want to and God believe me I want to. I can only promise you that I want all of you, that I am not going anywhere, and that I am willing to fight for the three of you. I will show you every day for the rest of my life that it is you that I want to be with you and only you. So if you let it, I want this to be the start of our forever. So what do you say can forever start today?” tears start running down my face, stupid hormones, “yes Sebastian forever can start today” I reply with a watery smile.

Hetalia Polyship Week 2022: Day 1
@hetalia-polyship-week
Prompt:  Musicals || “Thank god that I’m not you”
Rating: T
Ship: GerFrukPort
Word Count: 1243
Author’s Note: This is based on an au we discussed in my gereng server where engportfra are actors all pursuing set builder Ludwig while also being in a throuple themselves. Also, I like to think Francis uses he/they pronouns so I switch between those pronouns.
Curtain Call
The wings of the stage were buzzing with energy, for in a mere few hours, the curtains would rise, and the open night would commence. Ludwig put the final nail in the window frame he had been working on. At least it had fallen apart during the dress rehearsal and not the actual show. He just had to oil the wheels on one of the moving set pieces and check the other two to make sure they were still in working order, then they’d be good to go.
Hopefully, with the show coming to an end, Ludwig would finally be free of all the confusing feelings that had arisen during production. The thought was both a relief, but it also kind of hurt. To have three actors pursuing you definitely was overwhelming and made Ludwig’s job a lot harder, it was nice to be the center of attention for once, and over this time, he got to know his three suitors; he would miss them when they all went their separate ways.
He’d miss Arthur's nagging. Although it was annoying at times, it was nice to know someone cared enough to bring him water and make sure he was eating. He’d miss the way Arthur’s eyes would light up as he tried too hard to hide his smiles behind scowls. And most of all he’d miss the subtle compliments and flirty remarks that would rival the language used by poets of the past.
He’d miss Francis’s affection the most, he thinks. The way they’d hang off Ludwig as if it was the most normal thing in the world, how they would always greet him with a warm embrace and part with one even warmer. He’d miss the way Francis’s curls framed their face perfectly, always appearing so soft to the touch (but Ludwig would now never know if that was true). And though he was often overwhelmed by Francis’s forwardness when it came to flirting, he did appreciate the food they made, and he’d be lying if he said Francis’s compliments hadn’t boosted his confidence ever so slightly.
Lastly, he’d miss Afonso’s calmness. The way he could remain relaxed yet level-headed during even the most stressful situations and the way he would comfort Ludwig in the carpenter’s own stress. He’d miss the sweet, gentle nothings Afonso would occasionally whisper when Ludwig was burnt out and needed the pick-me-up. But the most he would miss the rare sight of Afonso focused: tightly knit brows, spark in his eye as he looked over his scripts, pulling any and all information to boost his performance.
As Ludwig pulled away from the last squeaky wheel, he came face to face with the three actors who had been consuming his thoughts.
Arthur was dressed in a fiery red coat that just reached his knees, with golden stitching along the edges. Golden chains and earrings, striking red eyeshadow, and dark eyeliner accented the outfit. A leather corset wrapped around his middle gave the otherwise fearsome look an alluring aura. To top it all off, a pirate cap adorned with pale feathers. An outfit befitting of both a seductive yet dangerous pirate captain.
Francis in turn was fitting in a frilly blouse and a pale blue coat that reached the floor. It was as if the stars had been taken and threaded into the fabric itself with the way it glittered with every small movement. His hat was a greyish white, decorated with dried flowers instead of the traditional feathers. He was dripping in jewelry and gems: earrings, necklaces, bracelets, all of which matched Francis’s eyes. The sparkly look was complete with purple eyeshadow with a hint of glitter. He looked like royalty despite being a mere pirate captain.
Afonso was dressed in a nobleman’s coat. Darker green vine patterns wrapped around the torso and sleeves, meeting with the silver stitched pattern on the edge of the collars and cuffs. His hair was tied back by a matching ribbon, giving a clear view of his face. His natural features were amplified by simple makeup instead of the brightly coloured blends of Arthur and Francis, yet he was nonetheless beautiful. An elegant nobleman if there ever was one.
Ludwig felt his whole face burn seeing them decked out in their costumes. All he could do was stare, unable to form a coherent thought in their presence. It was as if he was back to the very first time the three had begun flirting with him.
Francis’s giggling shook Ludwig from his daze. Arthur shoved the Frenchman. “What?” Francis asked with feigned offense, “He probably thinks we look pretty. So much so he’s been left speechless.”
“Or he’s thinking: ‘thank god I’m not you,’” Arthur shot back, gesturing to the other’s costume. “You’re going to melt under all those damn frills.”
“Aw are you concerned mon amour?”
Arthur’s face turned bright red, but if looks could kill, that glare would have ended Francis on the spot. Luckily before things could escalate. Afonso stepped between the two. “Now, now, meus amores, we have more important business here right? We’re going to scare him off like this.”
Wait… ‘mon amour’ and ‘meus amores’? Ludwig may not have been well versed in French or Portuguese, but he knew Italian well, and those sounded like…
“So…” Afonso went on, “I don’t know if you’ve realized what we’ve been trying to do, but with us parting ways soon, we’ve decided to just come out as say…”
“We love you,” Francis continued.
“All of us,” Arthur added.
“Romantically,” Afonso concluded for clarity.
So they did fancy him. It was quite obvious to everyone (including Ludwig) that these three actors had liked him romantically, but hearing it laid out so clearly still made Ludwig’s head spin. Perhaps part of the shock came from the fact that it appeared all three of the actors were dating as well. “Wait…Are all of you…”
“Together?” Francis finished for him, “Yes. Yes, we are.” To prove the point he took Afonso’s hand and gave it a squeeze.
“I’m surprised you didn’t know sooner, it’s all over the tabloids,” Arthur noted.
“But what we are trying to get at is that we want to invite you into it,” Afonso explained.
Ludwig awkwardly opened and closed his mouth, trying to find what he wanted to say. It was a dream come true. Over this production, he had fallen in love with all three of them and couldn’t bear to choose only one of them. But with this revelation, he could have it all, and everyone would be happy.
“Love,” Arthur spoke softly, stepping forward to put a hand on Ludwig’s arm. “You don’t have to make a decision now. You’ve got time to think. We just wanted–”
“I’d love to,” Ludwig blurted out. His blush surely darkened as he realized how desperate he sounded. “I-I mean…I’d like that…I have feelings for all of you so…”
The three actors looked at Ludwig with wide eyes. “Well then…guess it’s settled,” Francis said with an amused huff. “Perhaps we can have dinner after the show tonight.”
Ludwig nodded, perhaps a bit too eagerly.
“Ten minutes till curtain,” someone shouted in the distance.
“Well I guess this is farewell until intermission,” Arthur sighed.
The three bid farewell to Ludwig, giving the German the much-needed time to process everything. But as he waved to the actors as they departed, Ludwig couldn’t suppress a wide grin from spreading on his face.

Warrior's Honor - Part 13
Fandom: The Dragon Prince Characters: Emelyn, Iris, Gren, Amaya, Viren Word Count: 1243 Previous // Next Warrior's Honor Masterlist
Start from the beginning
Tumblr media
Emelyn leaned against the balcony of the tallest tower in Katolis Castle, watching the sun rise over the kingdom. It was her favorite spot in the castle because she could just make out the castles of the other kingdoms in the far reaches of the land. Del Bar was to the north, while Duren was to the northeast. Neolandia lay in between, and Evenere prospered across the Independent Isles to the west.
A smile played on Emelyn's face as the sun shone in her eyes, and she thought about the world map currently sitting in her room.
Ah, the map.
It was old and tattered, and she should get a new one, but she just couldn't part with it. She had written so many notes in the margins that it would be impossible to recover if she lost that beloved piece of parchment. Not only that, but the map itself was one of a kind. She had gotten it as a gift. Emelyn recalled the day when—
"There you are."
Emelyn whipped around to see Gren behind her, leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed.
"Gren!" she exclaimed, running toward him and pulling him into a bear hug.
"Hey, there!" Gren laughed. "Is this still your favorite spot?"
"You bet," Emelyn answered. It's like you can see the whole world!"
"You've always been one for geography," Gren teased, making Emelyn laugh.
"So, you brought the princes back?" Emelyn asked, changing the subject. Gren's face fell.
"Well, we know they're alive, but they've been captured by a Moonshadow elf. It's a wonder they're not dead yet, but we'll find them!"
Emelyn froze. "What? A Moonshadow elf?!"
"Yeah," Gren said gravely. His eyes lifted toward the rising sun, his bright blue eyes glazing over. The commander's usually cheery attitude melted away for just an instant, revealing a battle-hardened side of him Emelyn rarely saw. But before she could even blink, it was gone.
Gren sighed, rubbing the nape of his neck. "Well, I better get going. General Amaya's probably waiting for me at the Throne Room."
"General Amaya?" Emelyn cut in hopefully. "Can I come with you?"
"No, no," Gren said with a wave of his hand. "It's a serious matter, and I rather you not be involved. I'll see you later."
Emelyn's heart sank. She watched as Gren walked away, his broad shoulders set with determination. She raised a hand and waved before returning to the balcony to watch the Crownguard below change shifts. "See ya."
Tumblr media
General Amaya stood in the castle halls, her arms crossed and eyes closed as she waited outside the Throne Room. She would've entered the room herself to see if Lord Viren was inside, but she would rather wait outside then risk having to listen to Viren's ranting while waiting for Gren to interpret.
Amaya opened her eyes and stared at the floor. Being deaf, she was able to let her mind wander without anything disturbing her. In a way, her lack of hearing was a blessing.
Amaya's thoughts drifted to her nephews, Ezran and Callum. She hadn't seen them in so long, and it pained her to think the moment they reunited, they were in the clutches of a Moonshadow elf. Why did it have to be a Moonshadow elf, of all things?
Oh, poor Ezran and Callum. They must be scared out of their minds. But they're smart, Amaya thought. They'll figure out how to stay alive, and hopefully long enough so we can save them.
Amaya raised her hand and brushed her fingers over the scar on her right cheek. She vowed to save the boys. For her sister.
Just then, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Instinctively, she grabbed the wrist and closed her other hand in a fist, ready to strike.
"Wait, Wait!"
Amaya stared at the hands for a moment, realizing they were signs. She looked up to see Gren frantically signing at her.
"It's me," Gren signed, and based on how his chest was heaving, Amaya guessed he was laughing. He finger-spelled his name with the hand she was gripping, and with a scowl, she let go.
"Don't sneak up on me like that. I could've seriously hurt you," Amaya signed before crossing her arms. "And don't laugh at me."
"Alright, alright," Gren signed, taking a deep breath and smiling at her.
Amaya frowned, opening the door to the Throne Room. She looked around but saw no one.
She saw Gren waving his hand in the corner of her eye and turned to face him.
"He's not here; what do we do now?" Gren asked.
"We wait," Amaya said, walking over to a pillar and leaning against it. She crossed her arms in waiting, and Gren joined her, watching the door.
After a few minutes, the Throne Room door opened to reveal Viren walking inside. Gren almost stepped into his view, but Amaya raised her arm. Gren looked at Amaya quizzically, but she didn't budge. She wanted to see what the High Mage was up to.
Viren walked toward the throne, seeming oblivious to Amaya and Gren. They watched as Viren started up the steps to the throne, and that was when Amaya had seen enough.
"Thought I might run into you here."
Tumblr media
Iris flinched at the sound of General Amaya's armor clanging loudly as she stomped into the courtyard. Gren was practically running to keep up. As Amaya stormed over to her horse, Iris called out to Gren, who looked back at her.
"Bad day?" Iris asked, nodding towards Amaya's fit of frustration.
"Her talk with Viren didn't exactly go as planned," Gren replied with a dry chuckle. They both jumped at the sound of an ear-piercing whistle and saw Amaya staring Gren down from her horse.
"Gotta go," Gren said hurriedly. "Be back later."
"Good luck," Iris said ruefully. Gren mounted his horse and rode after Amaya out of the castle. As their horses' galloping faded, Iris noticed a small shadow soaring along the ground. She looked up to see the familiar Golden Eagle gliding across the sky and chuckled.
"Here comes Emi," Iris muttered, turning around to see the Crownguard trekking toward her. "Right on cue."
"Hey, Iris," Emelyn greeted her with a sad wave. "Where's Gren?"
"Ooh, you just missed him," Iris said, pointing behind her with a thumb.
Emelyn slumped. "Oh. I was hoping to catch Amaya before she left."
"They'll be back soon, so if you wanna wait for them..." Iris started, but Emelyn waved her hands dismissively.
"No, no. It's fine. Thanks." Emelyn started to walk back toward the castle. Iris tagged along.
"Why the long face?" Iris asked, noticing Emelyn's dejected expression.
Emelyn sighed, rubbing her temples. "I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. We're so close to finding the princes, and I guess I'm getting antsy." Her hands dropped to her sides. "I just want things to go back to normal."
Iris snorted. "Well, that's something we all want, isn't it?"
Emelyn didn't react.
Iris sighed and stopped walking. "Look, I'm sure that everything will go back to normal when Amaya and Gren find the princes, alright? So stop stressing yourself out."
Emelyn's shoulders relaxed, and she looked at Iris with a half-hearted smile. "Yeah. Maybe." She turned and started walking back into the castle. "I'm gonna go look for Soren. His dumb jokes should cheer me up, or something."
Iris laughed. "You do that!"
