Here is the Prologue! I don't actually anticipate this fic going over that well, but damn I like were this is going so here it is anyway! Feel free to let me know what you think! Reminder, Florence, Montana is made up town! There is use of (Y/N) in this fic, but it's very few and far between. Enjoy!!

Title: Once an Asshole, Always an Asshole

Y/N 'Duchenne' Hannigan has always been a wall flower- well, maybe 'wallflower' was the wrong word. Duchenne was strong, strong enough to keep up with her Uncle Remy and her brother Michael on the family ranch. She's pretty too, but pretty didn't get you far in Florence, Montana.

She grew up with the notion that she had to work hard, that was the only way she was going to get what she wanted. It never came down to looks or personality, after all, nothing in Montana seemed to matter outside of hard work and a good handshake, except maybe a promise. Those things went together better than anything else; people made their living from that.

"If you wanna be a big dog, you need to get off the porch," Uncle Remy's broken record words found their way out of his mouth every morning over cups of coffee, something she started drinking way too young.

"I know, Uncle Rem," She would whisper, pushing her glasses up her nose. The large golden frames overtook the gentle features of her face. She hated them, from the way they slid down her nose to the never ending smudging she had to deal with all day. She often slipped them off of her face the moment she got to school. They found a home in her backpack with the never ending supply of stationary and her good pens.

It was difficult to navigate so many different facets of life at once, pulling her weight of the work while going to school full time, being the only girl of the family left her to figure out many things for herself.

The moments she had alone, she read the classics and wrote in her journal. She learned how to be a woman through the books she read, each new novel, a new woman to each her the ways of the world. Duchenne loved words. Simple as that. She wanted to live and breathe them, surround herself with nothing but scripture from the greats and those who inspired her.

More often than not, though, she found herself day dreaming. The object of her affection being Bob Floyd. The pair had grown up in the same town, they'd always gone to school together, but separate classes kept them apart, acquaintances. That was, until freshman year of high school. She loved his kind eyes, eyes often hid behind the shaggy hair he let fall into his face. Maybe it was the cowboy hat he wore or the way his sleeves were always rolled up to his elbows. Whatever it had been, she was in deep for Bob Floyd, somewhere between a childhood crush and a Bennet and Darcy love story.

The day he started the swim team was the day everything spiraled out of control. Instead of saying hello to her in the hallway, he began walking past, his eyeline always kept just above her head.

Robert Floyd was a kid with passion. He had a dream. WSO, the title sounded like music to his ears. The idea that he would be in charge of a pilot, thousands of miles above the ground, nothing around him but the bluest skies. That's what he wanted, more than anything.

So, Bob started telling himself that he avoided Duchenne because he didn't need the distraction. The ranch girl who always had her head stuck in some stuffy book was going to be his downfall, and he knew it. Maybe it was the way her hair stuck out in all sorts of directions or the fact that her clothes were always well worn in and faded in just the right places.

As time went on, he got meaner. The voices of his teammates playing over and over in his head. "We are your friends, you've got everything you need right here on this team," and so he tried to make himself believe it. After all, if he swam well he could get scholarships, and that money would bring him one step closer to the Navy.

Who was he to question the word of his team. After all, your word held just as much weight as any handshake in Florence, that much he could guarantee. So he followed in their footsteps, stroke for stroke, narrowing his vision to only what would get him closer to achieving his dream. And, unfortunately, that didn't include her.

But, oh, god, Bob liked her. He liked the way her name rolled of his lips and the way she was always helping out, using her off periods to volunteer with the front office staff, filing paperwork and running errands. He liked Duchenne so much that he started volunteering too.

Then he started slipping at swim practice, and once in a meet. His brain was stuck on the image of Duchenne sitting in the back of their math class, large gold framed glasses dwarfing her beautiful face. He watched as she pushed them up with her knuckles, her focus on the test in front of her. She stuck her tongue out in concentration, and that in itself did Bob in.

He caught himself thinking of that memory often... maybe too often. That's when his own voice took over the ones of his teammates that had been on repeat in his head for the last few months. "For the Navy," he would chant in his head like a prayer. That's all that mattered.

It mattered even more than her. Bob made his choice, leaving Duchenne to question where their friendship went wrong with every cruel word that left his tongue.

This Day in X-Project - January 22

PHASE 2

2015: Wade texts Jennie about food. Wanda posts about picking someone up and restocking wine. Angel posts about having cooked for everyone and texts Gabriel, searching for a sign of life. Wade and Jubilee texts Marie-Ange about being confused about Wanda being alive and Adrienne does the same with Amanda. Clarice posts about her New!Me loving shopping. Jubilee mails the P1 people about doing a remembrance for Remy and Ororo. Jean Grey meets Warren Worthington at an exhibition opening. Laurie texts Kyle, searching for a sign of life. Jean emails Angelo about being in town. Marius posts about leaving for Australia. Wade checks how Adrienne is doing. Marie-Ange emails the P1 X-Force people about rebuilding. Wade brings Jennie some food and they decide that he needs dance lessons. An amnesiac Rogue returns to her suite from the medlab and finds Adrienne napping in her bed. Wanda posts a Magneto thread alert to the team comm. Kyle posts about heading out in February and March. Rogue texts Adrienne about there being McDonalds and posts about her amnesia. Wanda finds Jubilee working herself to exhaustion and brings her food while they discuss the situation with X-Force. Lorna meets newcomer, Bobbi Morse, who has the suite across from her. The survivors of the original X-Force gather for a memorial to their fallen comrades, masked as a poker game in the boathouse.

2016: An especially excited Alex lets everyone know that it’s snowing outside, leading to snowmen and Frozen references; Darcy helps Alex enjoy his first snow. Jean, Emma and Rachel enjoy well-deserved spa time after their adventure on the astral plane.

2017: Angelo takes Maya out to do some volunteer work and they have an interesting ethical conversation on the bus. Jubilee can’t sleep and seeks out Warren to watch movies with. Miles reflects on the coverage he (as Spider-Man) is receiving from the Daily Bugle.

2018: Bobby makes a journal entry to share a music video. Doug wants to use a particular swordfighting move he saw in a vid.

2020: Tandy undergoes telepathic therapy with Jean to help with the damage the Dweller did.

Why don’t you ship it?

Mostly bc my interactions with the X-Men fandom have been limited to Erik, Charles, Raven, and Remy. I RPd an Erik and three different versions of Raven/Mystique at one point. One of my Ravens was in a Marvel Uni RP Twitter group, and she had a relationship with Remy. They called them Ramen. LOL anyway... I do enjoy the X-Men movies, but I'm super unfamiliar with the majority of the characters. I only got into Cherik after X-Men: First Class, and that was mostly bc of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Same with Raven. JLaw was my first fictional wifey (I consequently left her for Brie Larson, but I still love me some JLaw), and I actually immensely dislike Rebecca Romijn. In saying all that, while I don't have an issue with James Marsden, and in fact enjoy him in many many movies, I do not now nor have I ever liked January Jones. Her casting as Emma Frost was meh for me. Emma Frost was meh for me. Until I joined that Marvel Uni RP group. After I got Raven going, I added two more characters. A super ditzy Darcy and biology professor with a hidden agenda, Nathaniel Essex, aka Mr. Sinister. My Essex became involved in a sordid love affair with Emma Frost, a grad student, and when things with the group went sour, Emma's writer and I took our characters out and continued to RP on our own. She wasn't a fan of JJ's, but Emma Frost was her #1. She started out using Jennifer Morrison but later changed her to Blake Lively. I used Ewan McGregor for Essex. Anyway, the RP made me a fan of Emma's, tho I don't really interact with much media of her anymore. So, maybe it's not that I don't ship it. I'm sure if I read more fics of them, I might.

What would have made you like it?

Being more familiar with the characters, probably. And a better actress, lol.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

So how would you mash up Awful First Meeting and Accidentally Married AUs?

I WOULD… give Darcy Lewis the backstory of being from a side branch of the main family that leads the Smuggler’s Guild in New Orleans. Her pa took her ma’s name when he converted, disavowed ties to the business, and set himself straight. He didn’t dump his family, he just went legit, and they were okay with that so long as he let his children make an informed choice about whether or not they wanted to be in the business.

Darcy’s older brother Dan decided to become a doctor. Her little siblings hadn’t made their decision yet. Darcy herself was still on the fence, and as such she went for “lessons” on a regular basis (and partially to keep an eye on the twins). During her adventures in New Orleans, she once got into a bit of a pickle and ended up, what with one thing and another, owing a favor to Bella Donna Boudreaux - not a position any right thinking person wants to be in.

Darcy also has a few unfortunate run-ins with the new Prince of the Thieves’ Guild, Remy LeBeau. It’s not quite hate-on-sight, but their first encounter involves a pack of dobermans, three squad cars, two yard flamingos, and six bags of beads. He thinks she’s a pretty pest, she thinks he’s a peacock.

Bella Donna thinks it’s hilarious, and when she finds out her grandfather is angling to get her hitched, she tells Darcy that the best way to pay back that favor owed is to take Bella’s place in a contract signing. She won’t owe anyone anything anymore, and the contract is really more of a formality, it doesn’t bind her to any specific jobs or purchases.

It just binds her to Remy.

You know what I really want rn? Rarepair (or at least not as popular) compilations but for fictional friendships (including rare types of friendships if not specific characters, like introvert/extrovert, crossovers, intergenerational, etc.)

Give me Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jocasta Nu being nerdy library friends together (but still being badasses like in The Mummy).

Give me Darcy Lewis and Stephanie Brown bonding over being the non-genius without years of training who will still go to bat for their found family.

Give me Stiles Stilinski and Five Hargreeves going through things their family wouldn't understand and being way more mature than they look or act.

Give me Remy Lebeau and Kurt Wagner reconciling their shared religious background with their identity as mutants and being each other's support system.

I just really want more fics that focus explicitly on friendships bc not every rarepair has to be romantic, you feel?

“Come on, he won’t even know it was you. In fact, it won’t be you, I just need a distraction.”

Remy lowered the mission file he’d been half-pretending to read.

“You said that, cher. I’m still hazy on the why.”

Darcy sat up from where she’d been lounging on the couch with her head near his knees, tucking her feet under her as she fixed him with a pleading look. It didn’t last long when he only raised his brow in response.

“Logan seems to think that grungy man stench and cigar smoke is appealing. I just need to get his coat cleaned to prove him wrong.”

He knew good and well that no one touched that coat if they wanted to live.

“You realize he’ll murder you.”

“Maybe,” she shrugged.

“Kill me too.”

“Possibly,” she tossed back with a grin, realizing he was thawing to the idea.

She continued to stare and he let out a long sigh, already trying to think of strategies that would implicate him the least.

“I guess dying with you isn’t the worst way to go.”

This is for @greennonmonster who requested Darcy/Remy and getting married young, in Vegas and giving it another go.

(I don’t speak French, so I hope my quick research did this right!)

They had met when she was in college at a back room poker game that had taken her months to talk her way into. She was very good at poker, both with understanding the cards (she knew pretty much all the probabilities), and with using her rockin’ bod to her advantage to knock the guys off their game. She played games like this all over the city to pay for school, but this one was bigger than all the rest. If she won tonight, she could pay for everything next semester: tuition, books, rent; all covered. She wanted it so bad she could taste it.

She had looked at the men at the table and knew it was going to be easy. None of them had ever played with her before, so she would play just a little bit poorly to make them comfortable in their ability to take her money, and then she’d slowly start taking all their money, and hopefully they wouldn’t even notice because they’d be too busy ogling her and assuming they could take her money whenever they felt like it.

But then there had been Remy. He wore sunglasses in the dark room and held his own while flirting with her the entire night. The others had lost their cool and started to play angry (always a plus for those with composure), and soon it was down to her and the man who seemed to play and flirt like magic. Two hands after they were the last two, he had asked to call it quits because he needed to head to work. They would both be leaving with sizable pots. She would still need another few games in order to pay the bills, but she was happy to be out with what she had; Remy was just as good, possibly better than her.

“May I walk you to your car, Darcy?” he asked, his voice caressing her name and sending a shiver down her spine. Who knew a Cajun accent could do so much for her?

She looked around. Some of the men from the game didn’t seem pleased. She wasn’t sure if it was because she was walking away with their money or if it was because she wasn’t walking away with them. “I’d appreciate that, Remy.” She tried to infuse her words with as much liquid sex as he had.

“I like the promise in your voice,” he whispered into her ear as his arm snaked around her waist.

“I like keeping promises,” she said, her arm going inside his open jacket and into his back pocket, giving a little squeeze to what she was sure was an exquisite ass.

They fell into bed that night, as they did for several weeks. Then, one day he showed up at her door with a proposition. “Vegas,” he said with a smile. “Whoever comes away with the bigger winnings gets to make a request of the other.” She had smiled at his words. There was plenty she would love to request from him, and Vegas was a chance to make some real money.

When he had won, she was surprised by his request. “Marry me, ma cherie?” She hadn’t thought he felt like she did, but here he was, proving her wrong. She said yes instantly, and just over an hour later they had been wed in a little ceremony at a 24-hour chapel.

The next day he had left “on business,” and she hadn’t seen him since. She had been angry (unbelievably angry and heartbroken); so much so, that she had taken the internship with Dr. Foster just to get away from everything that reminded her of him.

Four years later she was dressed for an important meeting that Pepper had asked her to attend. The Avengers were working on an agreement with the X-Men, and she had been tasked with determining how such an arrangement would affect already in place policies. She took her seat and pulled out some notes she had taken about the pertinent clauses that they needed to be aware of as she waited for the meeting to begin. Just as Steve was bringing the meeting to order, the door opened one more time, and a man she thought she’d never see again entered. She knew that all the Avengers noticed her reaction, though she tried to keep it subtle.

Remy.

She did her best to keep her mind on the meeting, but her thoughts were reeling. Remy was a mutant? How had she not known? Where had he gone? Why hadn’t he been in touch? Had he known she was going to be here? She tried to focus on what the others were saying, adding her input when necessary, but she was happy when the meeting was over. She gathered her things, and Natasha was immediately at her side.

“Are you okay?” she asked softly.

“I’ll be fine,” Darcy said, trying to brush it off as nothing. “Just a bit of ancient past returning.”

Natasha’s eyes scanned over to Gambit who was still in the room and watching Darcy with undisguised interest. “Want me to bury the ancient past?” she asked with a smile.

“I would deserve it, mon amie.” He was much closer than he had been.

“You deserve a lot Remy. You abandoned me!”

“Really, LaBeau? You treated Darcy like one of your one and dones? And then showed up here?” Natasha said coldly.

“It was not like that,” he said, his signature charming façade breaking down. “We were in love. It was not one night; it was supposed to be a lifetime.”

“Hard to believe that when you disappeared hours after we were married,” Darcy hissed. She heard Natasha suck in a surprised breath.

“For your safety,” he replied. “I had attracted some unsavory attention. If I left, I knew I could keep them from learning about you.”

“Four years, Remy! Not a word or even a postcard!”

His hand reached out to stroke her face, but she stepped back and he dropped it. “I know. I deserve whatever punishment you deliver. But you need to know I was always thinking about you. I had tried to find you, about two years ago, and it was like you had disappeared. No records to be found. No trail to follow. I thought I had lost you for good. That someone had done what I feared most.”

She softened a touch. “Shield. They basically removed Jane and I completely from existence. But you still gave up, and that doesn’t excuse the fact that two years had passed before you even tried to look.”

“I promise I was lost for a long time when I thought you gone. But you are not. Does Remy dare to hope that there is still a chance for us? That you might still love him?”

He had always been her weakness, and even now that hadn’t changed. She stepped closer to him. “I don’t know. You don’t know what it was like. I tried to move on, but there was always you haunting me.”

“Let me haunt you, mon cœur.” He was crowding her and she was letting him.

“I’ve missed you so much,” she said, pressing herself to him, her hands resting on his chest.

“Please,” he begged, his hand hovering in the air.

She tilted her head into his hand and it was like a dam had burst. His hands were on her, hers on him, feeling everywhere as though trying to prove to the mind that the other was real. His lips were on her neck and then working their way back up to his mouth. His hands tangled in her hair while her thumbs traced his jaw.

A throat clearing broke them apart. Natasha was smiling coyly at them. “Maybe you could show him your apartment, Darcy,” she said before leaving them alone in the conference room.

“I do like the sound of that,” he said, hands still tangled in her hair. “How far away is this apartment?”

“Just a few floors up,” she said, putting her hand in his back pocket and leading them to the door. “But just far enough away to make the elevator ride interesting.”

Marvel Preference- How They Ask You Out

Gambit would be pretty nervous but he would cover it up with all that charm and wit he has. As you sat down Gambit looked at you and then looked down the table. He wet his lips and opened his mouth almost like he was about to ask you something but closed it. “So, Y/N.” He starts after a little while of thinking. “So, Gambit” You say back to him. He smirked at the name since you were the only one who was allowed to call him that. “I was wondering if you’d let me take you out to dinner? When you’re not busy of course.” “I would love that, Remy.” You tell him with a sweet smile as you walk over and kiss him on the cheek.

Charles would be really sweet and shy while asking you out. He wouldn’t really know what to say but it would be very adorable. “Hello, Y/N.” “Hey, Charlie.” You say to him as you notice him sitting and decide to join him. “You look nice today.” He says to you as you sit. “Thank you.” You say to him with a smile. As you look up he gives you a cute smirk and then a big smile, to which you smile at. “So Y/N, I was wondering if you’d like to do something together; maybe something like a date.” He says to you with a shy smile. “Doing something like a date does sound nice.” You say to him with a smile.

Darcy would ask you out on the phone with support from Jane as she sits with her on the phone. “Hey, Y/N.” Darcy says as you pick up the phone. “Hey, Dars. Whats up?” You reply. “Well um....” “Come on do it.” Jane whispers as Darcy starts to get nervous. “Would you like to go out with me?” She asks with false confidence. “I’d love to.” Darcy suddenly has a smile on her face and gives a big thumbs up to Jane who does a silent little clap for her.

Erik would be confident and have all the right words to say before asking you out but when it came to actually doing it all of that flew out the window and words escaped him. He walked down the halls confidently as he went to go find you. He knew what to say and how to act, he was the embodiment of confident. As he walked into the room he saw you curled up on one of the arch chairs reading with socks and a big jumper on and all of a sudden he couldn’t say anything. He just stared at you nervously. As you noticed Erik in front of you, you stood up worried as he had this strange look on his face. “Erik are you okay?” You asked as you stood up and gently touched his bicep. This made him come out of this trance he seemed to be in. “Will you go on a date with me?” He asked you almost confused. As you realised his weird mood was him being nervous you cracked a smile and kissed him on the cheek. “Of course I will.”
