Summary:

Something is different, now, when they meet up, and both Sara and Ava can sense it, even if they’re both too nervous to comment on it.

Still, their touches linger a little bit longer – Sara holds onto Ava, each of them on a different side of the threshold, for almost a full minute when she answers the door; Ava cradles the back of her head, pressing her nose into her hair – and they enjoy how familiar it all feels. It’s nice to have loved someone long enough that they’ve become familiar.

“I made these for you,” Ava offers up a glass container of snickerdoodles.

Sara’s eyes light up. “My favorite.” She grins. “And the best kind of cookie.”

Rolling her eyes affectionately, Ava groans. “You’re never going to let that go, are you?”

ava having a panic attack because of bishop!!

A/n: oh there’s so many different ways I could’ve written this so I apologize if it’s not what you wanted! Sheepishly looks at my calendar in shame…this took me way too long and i am very sorry Warning(s): panic attacks; it has been a little bit since I’ve watched the whole Bishop plot line so I apologize if things aren’t following cannon; short reminder: panic attacks look/feel different for everyone, there’s no “right” way to have a panic attack. i wrote this in the most common way i have panic attacks, as it’s what im familiar with word count: 513

Purpose

Ava wasn’t paying attention. At least, not to the conversation her teammates were having. Her focus centered on a little crack on the floor of the Waverider, breaths coming in short as everything faded except that one little blemish. She could still hear the Legends, their voices muffled like they were underwater. She was still breathing, she knew that, yet why did her chest feel so heavy? Like she was Atlas, balancing the weight of the world on her two shoulders.

She’d known she was a clone for a while but knowing, registering, and accepting are very different things. She had met the man who created her, thousands of her, all with separate jobs, all meant for one reason. Thoughts swirled wildly in her head, ones she had experienced before, now multiplied ten fold. Bishop was her creator, the reason she was alive. She wasn’t…oh god, she wasn’t real.

Ava stumbled backwards, causing the Legends to pause. Her eyes were wide as her hands twisted her hair nervously.

“Babe?” Sara’s worried voice cut through the haze like sharpened glass and Ava focused her gaze on the blonde. She realized she had fallen backwards, her back up against the Waverider’s walls. Slowly, Sara came to kneel in front of her girlfriend, hands coming to rest on Ava’s knees.

“I’m not…I-” Ava tripped over her words, breath still coming in fast. Her vision wouldn’t focus, her team and love looking like blurs in front of her. She swallowed, attempting to speak again.

“I can’t- I’m not real.” She whispered out, causing Sara to sigh and gently cup her face, giving Ava something to ground her.

“He made me! I was created in a lab for a purpose, a singular purpose and I don’t even know what it is! Am I a defect?” She whispered the last part to herself but Sara heard. The assassin came to sit next to her girlfriend, cradling her head on her shoulder. Sara ran through Ava’s hair with her fingers, weighing her next words. She knew what Ava was going through, not completely, but she was no stranger to panic attacks. Taking a minute for Ava to relax, Sara spoke, keeping her voice soft.

“You are not a defect, you are a miracle. It doesn’t matter if you were born from a lab, Ava. Not only are you real, you are human. You don’t need one purpose, you have many. And you get to decide. One man who thinks his intelligence can control life does not mean your life is insignificant, do you hear me? Right now, we need you. If you want that as your purpose, hold on to that. But know, Bishop isn’t the reason you’re here. You are.”

Ava sniffed, nodding into Sara’s shoulder. The rest of the team came to surround the two women, both giving Ava space and being close to comfort her.

As they all sat there, Ava knew she’d need to reflect on these feelings again, but for now, her team, her family, were her purpose.

The purpose she gave herself, not Bishop.
