#finally found the scene I’ve been looking for #intrigued by that Steve would have a habit of watching old newsreels when he’s depressed #I know that it’s been expressed that these were simpler times for him #essentially the good old days even though that’s not how he would have thought of them at the time #but the newsreels- as pointed out here- are a very manufactured portrayal #that he had a complicated relationship with even then #he also had propaganda posters like the ones encouraging people to buy war bonds decorating his apartment in Captain America (2005)#marvel #steve rogers #sharon carter #my posts #comic panels

What about a bbc ghost au where you watch Hamilton the musical and outlander with kitty while Captain is watching Captain America the first avenger? What are their reactions to the musical, tv show and film?

Oh I’m not sure I’d have the heart to show Kitty Outlander, even tho I do love that show (it’s just too violent), but YES to showing the captain Captain America (after which I start calling him ‘Cap’), and YES to Hamilton, that would be so fun!! Actually I’d watch that with everyone and they’d all get so into it that we’d be quoting and rapping the songs to each other for weeks afterwards😄

I’m also thinking I would watch Pride and Prejudice (2005) with Thomas and Kitty just so we can all collectively swoon and sigh😊✨

ouuuu god yeah i hope we hear a little bit about tommy's background w his sexuality because like!! him being queer in that horrible station environment (in 2005!!!) really adds some layers to the growth that we already see happening in the background in the begins episodes!!

did he know the whole time?? did he figure it out at some point while working there?? i would imagine he likely had some pretty serious internalized homophobia to work through at the time, i wonder if we'll get to hear about that journey at all

personally i think tommy aligns a little more with my eddie headcanons in terms of his queerness in the sense that buck? did not know. he wasn’t actively repressing anything, from everything we know he’s not religious and wasn’t raised in any church, so buck probably just thought he was a really passionate ally up until tommy kissed him (which, side note, i still cannot believe happened). and from everything we’ve seen regarding articles and post ep interviews of oliver and tim saying this is a positive arc, i have a feeling buck’s not gonna feel guilty of his bisexuality and his attraction to a man.

eddie and tommy on the other hand? oh baby

they were both in the army and with eddie we know canonically he enlisted pretty young. we can assume tommy probably joined fresh out of high school and then became a firefighter when he came back. eddie is from a catholic background and while we don’t know anything about tommy’s religious background, i can’t imagine it’s easy to be gay in the military and as a firefighter in the 2000s and not walk away with insane amounts of internalized homophobia.

now, i think he knew. i think he’s known. if he’s 45 years old he would’ve been entering middle school during the aids crisis. if he was in the military during the early-mid 2000s it was during the “don’t ask, don’t tell” period (that eddie misses by about a year i think). i think tommy not only knew, but all of america and his job and then his fire captain made sure to remind him how wrong he was for it.

(i think eddie is in this same boat. i’m not sure if he knows exactly what it is yet, but i don’t think he’s oblivious to his feelings the way buck was. i think he’s very much aware of them and very much aware of how they scare the shit out of him.

and if this does end up a parallel i’ll explode.)

#i have a headcanon also that the first time eddie called someone a fag in a derogatory way he threw up when he got home #and then spent so long praying he had to wear pants in the texan heat so people wouldn’t get the wrong idea abt the bruises on his knees #but that’s a post for another time #bia gets mail #anon #tommy kinard

OWEN MERCER READING GUIDE

Owen Mercer is the son of Digger Harkness (Captain Boomerang) and Meloni Thawne, having been conceived while Digger was trapped in the 30th century. Owen never got to learn Meloni was his mother, and it was never revealed how Owen was sent back to the 21st century.

Owen longed to meet his birth father, but when Digger was killed after a mission to assasinate Tim Drake's father Jack Drake, Owen took the mantle of Captain Boomerang, Jr.

Owen's time in comics was short, but eventful. He was a member of the Rogues, Suicide Squad, SSoSV and Outsiders; before he was killed in Blackest Night.

Owen Mercer is brothers with Bart Allen aka Impulse.
