Why is it that space vessels are ships and not planes? It's always spaceSHIP, starSHIP, rocketSHIP. Never plane.
There's an easy, obvious argument that they move more like planes, navigating in 3 dimensions, not 2. Using engines not sails.
Still, they're always ships. Always sailing, never flying.
Is it just the romance? The twin magic of adventure mirroring sailing the seas and... sailing the stars? Ships passing in the night, figuratively and literally?
My brain is obsessing over this little language anomaly lately
