Tiriel raises up her face to the skies. Her  legs are numb after a long walk in the mountain, and her  throat burns with panting.
She feels a strong hand on her back - in case she falls down, Astarion will catch her.
"So, my sweet, what are we doing now?”
Tiriel smiles at her husband.
It's been 150 years since they met. 130 since they became parents to a wonderful dhampir woman they named Alethaine. Thirty - since they decided to become adventurers once again.
Astarion hasn’t changed a bit. Frozen in time, he looks the same as he did decades ago. Short silver curls, his roguish smile, pale skin, crimson eyes, still the most beautiful man she’s ever seen. And all hers.
Tiriel stopped aging at twenty-five. Her elven blood didn’t let her wither , but a year ago the human ancestry finally took a toll on her. Within a year the red hair got pale. Wrinkles covered the face. Tiriel was still strong enough to wield her ax and travel through the wilderness. But -
"Let me relax a bit." Tiriel sits on the ground. Astarion immediately kneels beside her the same way he did for all these one hundred and fifty years. "Don't look at me like that! I am not an old wreck."
He plants a kiss on her cheek. The winds howl like hungry wolves, and a group of warriors who joined them look scared.
All young humans, not older than forty. For them, Astarion and Tiriel are the relics of older times. People who remember Baldur's Gate before the ocean washed half of the city into the dark waters and who can tell about the Cult of Bhaal and many, many other things they witnessed.
"If you are a wreck, you are the most fierce and beautiful wreck this world has seen."
Tiriel touches Astarion's curls and he closes his eyes like a content cat. She wants to tell him a lot of things - that she is sorry they haven't found him a way to walk in the sun, that they haven't found his family... How much she loves him, her very own elven prince she saved from monsters.
Gods know she doesn't have much time left.
They've discussed it many times. Tiriel is mortal and though half-elves often live up to two centuries it's still not much in comparison with Astarion's immortality.
And he knows Tiriel doesn't want to die in bed, old and helpless. She is a warrior, with rage in her blood - she must die in a battle, fighting and killing the most ravenous monster Faerun has seen.
She is Tirirel the Barbarian of the Sunset Mountains, after all.But she is sometimes so weak, she can't lift her ax up for days.
"What do you think she's doing now?" Astarion suddenly says.
Tiriel doesn't need to ask who he talks about.Alethaine, their daughter.
Silver curls, dark eyes, a pair of fangs. She used to be a monster hunter - but sixty years ago she was invited to the court of the Grand Duchy of Shantal. "They prefer to have a dark witch of their own", Alethaine said, changing her light travel armor to a black dress of a noblewoman. She always had mannerisms of royalty and the life at the castle suited her more than sleeping in the dirt while hunting yet another monster.
"It's night, Astarion, she probably walks around the woods."
"Or reading"
"Maybe both at the same time"
Astarion laughs. "When we deal with that dragon, let's visit her. I understand we live so long that years mean little to us. But it's been a decade since we last saw our little princess."
"Our little princess is one hundred and thirty years old"
"Which makes her a young elven maiden. Though, of course, she would have been considered an adult among Tel’Quessira but still."
Tiriel touches Astarion's cheek. "Agreed. Once we get a reward, let's sail to the Border Kingdoms. I suppose the High Necromancer can offer her parents both a shelter and a job."
Astarion grabs Tiriel’s hand and kisses the knuckles.
"Beware! The beast is here!", a warrior yells, and a loud rumbling sound pierces the air.
Astarion prepares his bow and arrows - he will hide in shadows, somewhere he can distract the beast with annoying shots and small fireballs.
Meanwhile, Tiriel will rush ahead right into the beast's maw. To slaughter it like countless monsters she's killed in her life.
Starting with a wild bear she butchered at the age of fifteen.
Tiriel’s family never loved her. They even didn't bother to give her a name rather than calling the girl “a fairy bastard” and “a pixie”. As if it was her fault, a married woman who dared to call herself "mother", couldn't keep her legs shut.
Her siblings, all of whom are long dead, just pushed Tiriel down the cliff, hoping she would never come back. Tiriel still remembers pain, embarrassment, anger, and sorrow. Why? Why me? Why do they hate me?
And the sorrow transformed into rage. Her blood boiled and Tiriel cried out like an animal, like a wild beast attacking the bear with a small knife she had.
Rage.A skill of primal warriors, fury nothing can compare to. It gave Tiriel strength, faith, and bravery.
And ever since then, her blood boils the same way before the battle. When suddenly the two-handed ax gets as light as a wooden stick and the monster in front of Tiriel becomes just a pathetic animal
"I will go first!" Tiriel says to the warriors, lifting the ax.And suddenly it feels too heavy.
Pain pierces her  body, from spine to legs, and Tiriel almost collapses to the ground.
Human ancestry dictates its rules.
You are old, Tiriel. You don't belong to the battlefield. You belong to a safe bed in a cozy home which will be your grave soon enough.
Pale hands grab Tiriel’s waist and help the woman to stand up. Astarion looks at Tiriel, with no smirk or tease in his eyes.
"IT'S HERE!"
The massive body of the beast lands, ready to burn down everything to the crisp. A dragon. A Death, worthy of a warrior.
Tiriel isn't scared. She smiles at Astarion and presses her wrinkled forehead to his."Astarion, tell the bards to make a song about me."
Whatever he answers drowns in the dragon's roar.Tiriel walks right to the beast. Then she runs. The blood boils with rage. The lungs burn. The adamantium ax feels as light as if it was  made of hollow bones.
Tiriel has no complaints and no regrets.
She had everything she could ever wish for. A life full of heroic deeds. Friends to drink ale with. A family. A daughter to be proud of.A man to hold in arms.
She will be remembered. She will be loved. That's her own immortality.
Tiriel the Barbarian runs faster and faster, holding her weapon above her head.
"RAGE!!!"
***
It all ended in a blink of an eye. The dragon which spent its last minutes trying to get a shadow figure who dared to cast "ig-nis' ' now lies dead among the burning trees. It won't attack the city, and the people will spend the next days honoring the heroes who killed the dragon, not hiding from it.
Astarion jumps down on the ground."Tiriel! TIRIEL!!!"
No, she couldn't die. Not now. He needs her. He will always need her. And they agreed to visit Alethaine together, she must be alive!
Astarion waits. Waits to hear her voice, to see her. "It's just a scratch" she will tell him, visibly bleeding and he will carry her in his arms to a safe place.
Tell the bards to make a song about me.
What did he answer? What was his response?I love you.
Yes, that's what he told her. That is what he has been telling her for decades. Every day, these words never lost their meaning.
"Tiriel!" Astarion grabs a warrior's hand. "Damn, where is she?!"
"She... died."
Astarion pushes the man away and runs to the dragon's corpse. It's so hot it’s impossible to be there but blessed by his immortality Astarion barely feels the heat.
"Tiriel! Tiriel!"He keeps calling, hoping to hear the answer. She must have been wounded. Of course, fights aren’t easy for her anymore. She is getting older. But she still... She has time to spend with him.
Then he stumbles over something.
Astarion makes a step back and sees the plate of her armor, melted in the dragon fire.Red hot.
"I am sorry", one of the warriors says. "She just jumped into it like a fucking dragon slayer. She cracked the beast's skull in two and disappeared in the flames. We will remember her. She saved us."
Astarion drops to his knees still holding the piece of armor in his pale hands. He feels numb. Is he supposed to yell? To scream? To curse? What do people do when they lose their hearts?
He sits like that staring in the distance. He will never see Tiriel. He will never hold her warm hands. He will never talk to her. He won't spend hours motionless while Tiriel, sound asleep, clings to his cold body.
She will never kiss him. Or caress his elven ears.
He will never taste her blood, so divine and sweet.
He will never read to her, will never say how much he loves her just to see a smile on her face.
Tiriel made him feel redeemed, innocent, and alive. She brushed away his terrible past with a tender touch of her fingers. Now when he thinks about his scars, they don't hurt because he remembers Tiriel's kisses along his skin.
But it's over now.
Her mortal life came to an end. She died as she desired. In a fight. The bards will make a song about her. People will remember her.
"You need to go, it's almost sunrise", a young woman tries to make him stand but his legs don't obey.
"I-I... Need to tell... my daughter..." Astarion mutters.
Alethaine... She was attached to her mother. Ever since she was born. Always clinging to her like a kitten. Astarion remembers Alethaine crying - when she was six Tiriel was severely wounded and though she was all right the  little Dhampir realized what mortality was for the first time.
Of course, that six-year-old girl is long gone. The woman he will have to talk to has a century's worth of life experience. But a mother is a mother. And Astarion will have to be strong when he meets the High Necromancer, Alethaine Ancunin.
Gods know, he doesn't want to deliver this news to her. But who will?
Astarion looks around trying to memorize the place which became a grave for his beloved.
He will grieve. He will mourn. Once his mind makes peace with what happened. He just doesn't know how to live without Tiriel. He started living at his grave 150 years ago, with her by his side. Her smile, her warmth, her kindness.
Which are all gone.
Astarion gives out a cry, pressing the melted plate to his chest.

Royalty AND a friend
Tumblr media
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Mainly Fellowship of The Ring x Fem! Reader but also Legolas x Queen!Reader
Genre: Just fluff
Warnings: none really
Wordcount: EXACTLY 1200 TT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Summary: You, the queen, help Gimli, Aragorn and Legolas on their journey.
════════════════════════════════════════════
One of the guards of Ilyenore ran to the enormous gates of the kingdom when they heard that three (until now) unknown men were in front of it. Two of them didn’t even know who ruled this kingdom but one knew and he was none other than Aragorn.
“In the name of the queen, what are you here for?” One of the men in the armour asked and pointed his speer at the redhaired dwarf while inspecting him as good as possible in the already dimmed evening sun.
“I am Aragorn, son of Aratorn. We are here to seek the queen’s guidance.” He insists and smiles at the guards, which only nodded. “What about these two?” The other one asked and obviously wanted Aragorn to introduce them.
“The dwarf is Gimly, Gloin’s son and the elf there, that’s prince Legolas of Mirkwood.” Said Aragorn, offered them a hand.
The older guard nodded again and told the smaller one, blond hair and a mischievous grin: “Dereo, bring them to the queen.”
The younger one agreed and took them with him until they were in front of a tree. Gimli and Legolas shared a wondering look until the guard knocked on the side of it. Th redhaired dwarf was ready to complain as the landscape transformed from a bare overgrown grove into a big forest with many little cottages and a big palace. Both the dwarf and the elf were overly shocked while Aragorn chuckled at their reaction and a small “Dark magic” muttered.
While Dereo guided them further to the palace some royal guards joined them and greeted the smaller guard with their special greeting until they reached the grounds of the huge building and the royal guards took over the three men.
In the throne room were some maids and guards hurrying around and they were told that the queen would be there soon.
When a woman in black clothes and a black cloak entered the hallway with two daggers attached to her hips, Aragorn got on his knees. The queen was majestic in a different manner, she seemed very humane and kind, that’s why Legolas and Gimli didn’t understand first why Aragorn got down. The first thing that Legolas noticed were her ears which looked a lot like the ones elves have but they were a lot longer and pointier and were adorned by silver jewellery.
“Queen Nithroel! Great to see you again.” Aragorn spoke and yes, the two in the background hastily got on their knees, hoping the queen didn’t notice that. She did but didn’t say anything against it.
“Aragorn, my friend. Why so formal? I thought we agreed on my name, Y/n.” She smiled and offered him a hand to stand up when they hugged each other as a welcoming.
Then she looked at the other two guys and nodded approvingly. “You look a lot like your father, Sir Gimli.”
“Oh, really? Thank you, your majesty.” He said slyly and a sheepish red crept onto his face.
When the queen turned her head towards Legolas, she realised who he was.
“My prince.” And bowed her head in respect. Legolas was amazed because he didn’t know such kind of behaviour from his father, who was also a king but only smiled at the woman and said “no formalities, you’re the queen here.”
“You must be hungry and tired, my friends. Please be my guests and take a seat in my dining hall, the cook will bring you some amazing food. If you like, I will tell my maids to prepare some rooms if you want to stay overnight.” She offered and when Gimli heard the word “food”, he was into it.
The majesty took them to a smaller, but still very elegant dining hall and had a little talk with her kitchen staff which agreed on a good load of delicious nationalities. After that she told the maids to set three rooms up for her guests and joined the men in the dining hall.
After the meal they all went into their quarters, except for Legolas. When Y/n came back into the hall, she saw him pacing back and forth in front of a window.
“Do you need something, Legolas?” She asked, joined him at the window.
“I’m just worried.” He confessed.
“Is it because of the Hobbits, young one?”, asked the girl next to him now and received a small nod from the blonde elf.
“I wish I could show you where they are and what they’re doing but I agreed on something with Galadriel and Haldir.” Then she realised, she shouldn’t have said something about it.
“What did you agree on?” He now asked curiously.
“Dark magic to locate them.” She answered while blowing some air through her nose.
“What?” Legolas was clearly confused but slowly started to catch up on what the queen said. “That’s something with the ears, right?”
“If you’re so interested in it, yes, it is.” Her smile left the perfect face when he asked about that.
“You descended from elves, aren't you?”  She was indeed. That’s what she explained to him too. Her mother was a gorgeous and pretty elf, very smart and sweet but she fell in love with a demon. Well, not exactly with one but her father was a shapeshifter and tarried his life in his mundane form. They loved each other dearly but when she was pregnant with his child, he left. She also told the elf that once ago, Thranduil taught her how to use her daggers and bow but wasn’t able to keep her because he was just lightly hotheaded.
“He’s still the same, honestly. I understand you.” He chuckled.
But the queen put her hand on the youngling’s shoulder and smiled once again. “I know, it’s hard that he sometimes doesn’t act like a father but rethink your opinion. “Others have to take care of their families while he has to take care of his people, of his nation. You should know that. You should go to bed now, tomorrow will be a hard day for you all.” Her hair shone bright in the moonlight and he still watched her when she left the hall to go to her quarters, Legolas did the same.
The next morning was Aragorn the first one who was awake, obviously except for the queen. “Good morning, majesty.” He laughed when the black cloak came in sight. “Aragorn, I know you love teasing people, but right now is not the time for that. What do you need for your journey?” “You. We need you, are you joining us?”
“Sure, I also own some of the best horses for that.” The queen offered and Aragorn started to do a little happy-dance. “You’re not being serious right now, are you?”
Yes, she was serious. Aragorn was also very interested what the queen thought about his friends to which she said that Gimli was an interesting dwarf but Legolas- Legolas was just the son of his father, other royals were never really happy about Thranduil ruling Mirkwood but Legolas was just scared to disappoint him.
“So you like him?” “Of course do I like him. His intentions are just the best.”

Sunshine–
The late afternoon sun is warm on your face and arms as you pick another dandelion bloom from the ground, running its soft yellow petals between your fingers. You pluck them from the flower head, humming as they float into the wind.
Tilting your head to the side, Terror lays on the grass beside you, her arms folded behind her head, eyes blissfully closed as she soaks up the sun’s rays. Her breathing is slow and even, in moments like this she reminds you of all the summers you had spent together when you were younger. She is carefree like this, a mere shadow of her former self; her once pristine skin now marred with scars and sun kissed from the hours upon hours in the sun.
You smile softly, before tossing the naked stem onto the ground at your feet, the soft swish of grass being stepped on pulls your attention from your best friend, your eyes traveling the length of Flynn as he leisurely makes his way toward you. A knowing smirk lifting his lips; Terror and you can almost always be found near each other, outside of the compound, but never too far off.
As he nears, he shifts his bow onto his back, the string stretching across his strong chest, rumpling the dusty blue shirt he wears. His auburn hair half pulled back into a low bun, the tips of his pointed ears peaking between the bright strands, blowing into his face.
He is stunning, for all you know he could have been Elven royalty before the world fell into bloody chaos, those strong cheekbones, and a beautiful dusting of freckles paint his nose and cheeks, dissipating outwards. He carries himself with an air of respect, but he is always one to humble himself to help anyone in need.
You smile softly, he seems too sweet for this bloodthirsty world, most don’t take him seriously, but he’s as lethal as a lion. Most think the same about you, because you're ‘softer’ compared to Terror. You couldn’t remember the last time you were soft, the brutality of this newer world changed everyone, and honestly this was the only world you could remember, much of your memories prior to the coalescence are mostly smoke and vapor, each time you reach for one it evaporates.
The past didn't really matter much anyhow, all that really mattered now was surviving, making the most out of the shitty situation that was this new life. The world now is a mixture of the old apocalypse movies your father used to watch and the dark folklore books you read back in school; it was like another universe collided with ours, and merged both worlds into one.
A change in the genetic code of the universe.
When the coalescence consumed both worlds, there were those who remained as human, and those who morphed into something else entirely, like something hidden deep within their genetic code and from their ancestry came to the forefront. Their bodies and minds went through changes, some turned into elves, others ravaging beasts who craved violence and destruction during full moons, or even killers whose diet depended on the consumption of blood.
Cities were mostly uninhabited, nature taking its course to reclaim what was once its own, well at least uninhabited by humans or elves. Those who had survived the coalescence and were not immediately eaten, drained, or used as whores to both bloodlust and carnage, lived in camps scattered far from large cities. Some smaller towns like the one you came from transformed into sanctuaries and strongholds. The big cities, like Boston, where Terror had lived… Well, they weren't as fortunate, the beasts took hold in those places like wildfire.
Everything we thought we knew about these mythical creatures wasn't quite right. They definitely preferred to roam at night, when they were less likely to be seen; like most criminals– Werewolves were the biggest problem, followed by vampires. The werewolves were actually more like mobsters, aside from turning into giant flea ridden beasts. They really seemed to enjoy the finer things in life, but they absolutely ruled with iron fists, quick to punish with little to no mercy.
Your thoughts wandered to your family, still leading a stronghold in the south. You hoped they were still doing alright, the attacks usually came at night, or at least became more frequent when there were only stars to light the eerie skies–
“Sun?” Flynn’s voice broke into your mind, scattering your thoughts.
You blinked, eyes meeting Flynn’s calm green gaze, his head tilted to the side, in curious wonder, “Where’d ya go?”
Shaking your head lightly you sighed, pulling your knees closer to your chest, resting your arms against them, you hang your head, “Back in time… Flynn, do you wish you could go back? Before our worlds collided?”
He shrugged nonchalantly, “I don’t remember much of my world before that…”
You lift your head, watching as the sun lowers, casting an orange and red glow over the horizon, the shadows from the woods around you growing, reaching for the three of you and for the walls of the camp; the impending threat looming.
You draw your brows together, “I only remember bits and pieces, like–”
Terror’s hand is shoved against your lips, cutting off your voice, her leather gloves warmer then they should be. She is crouched defensively in front of you, arm stretched back covering your lips, her other hand wields a huge hunting knife. Eyes trained on the woods to our right, as still as a statue, your body freezes with hers, next to you, Flynn tenses, slowly reaching for his bow, drawing it back.
Your ears tingle under your ball cap, they’ve become more sensitive recently, you know something is coming, but as the dark figures emerge from the treeline your heart nearly stops, their eyes shining in the setting sun.
Werewolves.

Choices Insiders November 2023
Here we are once more, so let's dive into this months Insiders email!
Tumblr media
I picked the option of the lore as I have a love of fantasy worldbuilding and I'm always interested to see what approach different authors take to their worlds.
The Cursed Heart has some interesting worldbuilding with the Fae in regard to the Sun and Moon courts as when it comes to light and dark fantasy, my mind instantly thinks Elves. One thing I liked with the book, is the subversion of day/light = good and night/dark = bad.
Tumblr media
I'll get more to Alpha later, but I'm interested to see what VIP players think of it as I haven't seen much posted about it.
Tumblr media
Ship of Dreams I have seen a bit about, but I'll see what it's like when it releases next month.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They do make it sound slightly Royal Romance there, interested to see what female Kieran's version will be like.
Tumblr media
With where I make transparents, I'm used to seeing headless sprites haha.
Tumblr media
Given that there were characters named Radiance and Gleam and that kind of thing, I'm guessing that Opulence is a member of the Sun Court.
Tumblr media
It is nice to know that there is a new new multiple Love Interest book coming, I'll go more into each upcoming title in a bit.
Tumblr media
When I saw the cover, it did give me Red Carpet Diaries vibes, and this does make me think this is going to be a more mature version of that series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unbridled: An Untameable Story - The bit above is from the end, looks like once again, it'll be a single Love Interest book with the Rancher being the Love Interest.
Guarded - As I said above, Guarded looks to be a mature remake of Red Carpet Diaries, but with a bit of Witness thrown in. I imagine this will be a single Love Interest book with the bodyguard being the Love Interest.
Hot Shot - I must admit, of all the titles, this is the one that I'm the least fussed about as I'm not really one for the sports genre, I'll give this a chance, but yeah.
Immortal Desires 2 - This is one book that is higher on the list as I really enjoyed the first book and I am looking forward to more Gabriela. Interested to see who they put as the villain.
A Taste For Royalty - My guess is this is another book with a single Love Interest who is a royal. My guess is the MC is someone who works in the food industry. Or it could be vice versa, who knows.
The Deadliest Game - This very much sounds like a crime story that could perhaps could have horror-y elements to it. It's already been confirmed to be a multiple Love Interest book. I'll be interested to see how each character fits into the story.
Tumblr media
Alpha is a book I'm interested to see what it's like and how they approach the lore with the Werewolves. I think it'll probably be a Friday book as the finale of The Duchess Affair is tomorrow and the finale of Kindred is next Friday (Not ready for that!)
Ship of Dreams and The Cursed Heart 2 are the books that'll be seeing us out of 2023, and I certainly don't mind ending the year with some fantasy.
That's it for this months, I'll try and remember to take screenshots of the ads as they come up on their other social media pages.
Keep safe everyone!

Chapter XLIII
Tumblr media
A Kili X OC fic
Previous chapter // Next chapter
Tw: Feelings. A long awaited chapter, if you will. Emotions??? Crying?? Really mild for my doing.
————————————————————————
You know what’s scarier than a dragon? Feelings.
Tumblr media
Raewyn didn’t remember falling asleep in his chambers that night. Everything had gone by in a flash. She remembers waking up before him, slanted against the wooden frame of his bed, still seated on the floor, the slight brush of his arm against hers. It was enough to raise a sinking feeling in her stomach. Not one of desperation or grief - it was a nice feeling.
She remembered gently waking him and thanking him for comforting her. After that, one of the younger girls from Laketown helped her into one of her dresses, most suitable for a funeral. She had helped the girl back to her mother in the big halls of Erebor, before entering the Gallery of Kings, now littered with a golden floor. On the higher steps of the stairs, she could already see Thorin, Bard and Thranduil, accompanied by a handful of elves and men. What caused her breath to hold momentarily was seeing Fili and Kili up there in regal robes, standing beside Thorin proudly. With the time spent on their quest, Raewyn had slowly begun to forget that the two were indeed royalty, and had lawfully been considered princes. They never held that atmosphere of authority that Thorin seemed to ooze; it was easy to see past the fact that they had a right to a throne. And though she had been raised without hierarchy and with disdain towards kingdoms, she couldn’t help but bow her bead slightly to the pair.
The commemoration of the fallen soldiers had been long and emotional. Raewyn hadn’t lost anyone close to her - thankfully - but the sobbing of men and wailing of children was enough to cause her to blink back a few tears. She couldn’t deny that the loss had been too great for words, even though the kings had done their best to try so. She didn’t know how long she had been in that room, but when they came back out, sun had already set. Granted, there had been a big dinner and party afterwards to celebrate the lives and future of the people of Erebor and Dale, but she hadn’t anticipated for an entire day to pass by.
All throughout the party, all she truly felt was anxiety. Bilbo would be leaving the next day, and she had yet to answer Thorin’s offer. There was fright and fear in accepting the proposal for reasons she could not quite place. She wanted to stay, but simultaneously felt as if that would be intruding, even if everyone in the mountain would personally assure her that that wouldn’t be a necessity. She had done her absolute best to hide from Kili, a new-found fear climbing out her body every time someone would even mention his name. She couldn’t place where that had come from.
The flash of events came to a halt when she escaped to that all-too-familiar spot above the broken gates to Erebor. She had sneaked some food out for Farris, who was peacefully eating it in front of her. A plus that came with a somewhat magical owl, was that she ate everything and never got sick. That way, Raewyn could sneak out a handful of desserts; a few for her and a few for Farris.
“You were awfully absent today.” A voice suddenly cut through the silent ambiance, alerting both Raewyn and Farris of the new presence. Neither seemed surprised by it. Raewyn turned around slightly, forcing a smile onto her face. “Did you follow me here?” Kili grinned at that, walking up to the two. “Perhaps.” The Asha scanned his figure, that same atmosphere as this afternoon suddenly flushing through her. He seemed to ooze royalty now. “You look regal.” She remarked. Immediately, his energy seemed to change, his eyes rolling around as he made a silly face, clumsily lifting the great cloak off of his shoulders. “It’s so heavy.” He exaggerated in true Kili fashion. The material hit the floor with a heavy thud, before Kili sat down next to it, rolling his shoulders back. “That’s better.”
Raewyn couldn’t suppress the brief chuckle at his antics, shaking her head at him. Kili’s eyes found hers, slowly drifting to her dress. “How is your back?” She shrugged as if it was nothing, ignoring the scratching of her bandages. “Aching. Burning. Nothing new.” Kili didn’t seem to catch on to her nonchalant figure, his eyebrows furrowing together in hurt. “It’s been worse. You shouldn’t worry about it.” She tried to reassure. He just nodded in a mocking manner. “I’ll stop worrying when you can’t feel it anymore.”
“How are your hands?” Raewyn tried to change the subject, referring to his still bandaged hands. “Sore.” He muttered, flexing his fingers as if to make his point. A mischievous smile climbed onto his face as he looked up at her through his lashes. “It’s been worse.” Raewyn scoffed at that in humour, leaning her head back slightly. She tried to regulate the expressions on her face. As long as he thought you were okay, a voice echoed in her head. Her smile, however, seemed to fall quicker than intended, now replaced by a far-off stare. Kili noticed it immediately.
“Are you alright?”
She looked at him, mentally cursing herself for dropping her mood so quickly. “Peachy.” She tried to placate, but when Kili didn’t answer that, she knew he didn’t believe her. With a heavy sigh, she fed Farris another piece, ignoring the rough tugging on her heartstring. “I feel tense - on edge.” She confessed, now looking down at the owl, somewhat anxious to meet his gaze. It didn’t help that he seemed to look at her regardless of where her eyes fell. She could feel his worried eyes on her. “What for?” “I don’t know.” She muttered. “It’s like the imminent dread of some sort of event. It feels inescapable.”
Kili let out a silent ‘ah’ of understanding, nodding along with it, even though she couldn’t see it. “Any way I can help?” “No,” She answered. I think you’re actually making it worse. She didn’t dare to say that out loud, even if it was the truth. She was already feeling inner turmoil, but at the mere mention of his name or brief glances of him thrown her way seemed to only amplify it, a heavy pit settling into her stomach. Him actually talking to her made her want to dig a hole in the concrete floor and lay in it for an undecided amount of time.
When it became clear she wasn’t going to comment on it any further, Kili tried to change the topic: “Bilbo is leaving as soon as the sun rises.” And the sinking feeling in her stomach seemed to have reached the bottom, an almost nauseating feeling now rising up. She hated it. Even when facing Smaug, she hadn’t felt like this. It was terrible - she hated it. She felt incredibly hot, and began to pay a lot of attention to her breathing. Not because it began to speed up; because it seemed to be the only thing she could hear clearly.
“So he told me.” She tried to play off. “It’s weird - I’m already missing the little bugger.” Kili mumbled, his voice hitting her even harder. “I’ll tell him you said that.” She mused absentmindedly. She didn’t know if she actually said it out loud, because the dwarf didn’t speak afterwards. It was just a sudden silence - perhaps comfortable for him, but it was dreadful for her. She needed to talk about something else. Anything else.
“What will happen once the dwarves have returned to the mountain?” She managed out, still not meeting his eyes. She heard Kili laugh slightly at her question. “All the dwarrowdams will be wearing all kinds of silly dresses. And I don’t doubt there will be many awfully stupid meetings. A kingdom back on the rise will likely do that.” Trying to copy his sarcasm, she nodded along: “That sounds entertaining.” “It’s dreadful,” He claimed. “But if you’ll stay, I could talk with the fun captain of the guard.”
That felt like a direct shot to the heart. A shallow breath escaped Raewyn as she coughed, trying to cover up the deep sigh. “Yeah, perhaps.”
Kili frowned at that. Perhaps he had been oblivious to the sudden shift in her mood, but the sigh definitely did not go unheard by him: “Does the offer cause you stress? Because, if it does, you can take your time making the decision. Dwalin could take over in the mean time.”
Yes, she wanted to scream. Instead, what came out was a curt “it feels odd”.
“The dragon is dead, Erebor is reclaimed. Dale will be rebuild.” “Yes,” The dwarf agreed. “The start of a new era. It’s odd to see it happen, I suppose. It’s something you only ever hear in tales.”
She didn’t know what it was in his words, but she hated it. Her hands had begun to shake and she was having a hard time covering it up. Something was so terribly wrong. The whole situation seemed wrong. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know what to do with Thorin’s offer, she didn’t know what to do with Bilbo’s leaving, she didn’t know what to do after Erebor had been reclaimed. She never imagined ever meeting Kili. He was the reason she went through all this unneeded stress right now. If it wasn’t for him, she would have easily rejected Thorin. She would have left with Bilbo days ago and she would have never thought of Erebor again. Kili had ruined everything. And she hated that she couldn’t even hate him for it.
Standing up quickly, she heaved another deep exhale, forcing back tears that had sprung into her eyes during the stress. She wasn’t even sad. She just didn’t know what to do. It was so much at once and she couldn’t talk about it. She couldn’t even properly think about it.
God, Kili terrified her.
“I’m not feeling too well.” She managed out, leaving all the desserts on the floor for Farris. Before she could even walk past Kili, he had also risen from his spot, his hand finding hers. The skip in her heart was almost enough to let her crumble right now.
Almost.
“Should I get Oín?” He wondered in concern. “No, I’ll be fine.” Raewyn dismissed, ripping her hand from Kili’s, doing her best to regulate her breathing. “I think I shall return to my chambers.” “Should I walk with you?” “No.” She spoke immediately, a gesture that made Kili recoil slightly. “I’m sorry,” She apologized. “I appreciate the gesture, but…” I don’t want you around me. She didn’t tell him that. Of course she wouldn’t. Why was this so hard all of the sudden? “I can find my way. Bard was asking for you a short while ago. That’s likely more important.” “I doubt that.” He countered stubbornly. “Kili, please?” Raewyn pleaded. “If only to soothe my mind?”
Whether it was the terrified glance in her eyes or her rigid form, Kili seemed to adamantly agree to her words. “Alright,” He sighed. “Get some rest.” She nodded quickly, before rushing towards the entry to the mountain. She could feel her heart pound against her chest with every move. Not in a cliche way, but in a way that left her truly scared. She was scared that she was this frightened. The last few weeks had been lived on pure adrenaline, but she had never been this terrified. Not when facing Smaug, not when battling with the orcs, not when plunging into a freezing lake. Not when she was facing nearly certain death. She was frantic in a way she had never been before and she couldn’t understand why.
The second her feet stepped through her bedroom door, she collapsed to the floor, her shaking hands slamming the door shut, before her shoulder rested against it. It was all his stupid fault. She wouldn’t have gone through this if it wasn’t for him. She knew he would never want her to feel this just because of him, and part of it made the entire ordeal even worse. It made her hysterical. This was awful. This was sickening. Who was to say what would happen if she stayed? Would she have to go through this every single day? That would be a true nightmare.
The flurry of events and anxiety didn’t calm down until she had fallen asleep against the hardwood door, her cheeks puffed and her skin red, in that same black dress the girl had given her that morning. She felt little peace in her sleep, but at least she was out. It was the most rest she’d get for now.
—-
The sun had just risen when Raewyn found herself in front of Bilbo’s chambers, her old recovered armour covering her figure. She only had to knock once before the door was opened, her familiar friend welcoming her with a brief smile before returning to his packing. Wordlessly, she stepped into the room, watching him sort out the last of his things. When he finally closed the bag, she gave him a hopeful glance. She could see some sort of turmoil in his eyes, and she had only hoped he hadn’t changed his mind.
“Ready to go?” She asked him hesitantly. Bilbo looked at his own stuff, before letting his eyes run over Raewyn, doubt clear in his features. It didn’t soften as he spoke his next words: “Are you?”
His words took aback, and she couldn’t help but let out a scoffed chuckle at it. “Why would I not be?” Bilbo stopped his movements, exhaling deeply as he patted his hands to his side uncomfortably. He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped himself quickly. When Raewyn didn’t respond to it, he resumed his notion: “Look,” he sighed. “I know this isn’t my place to say, but there is so much keeping you here. Why would you leave?”
Silence filled the room upon his question, and neither of them could really predict what the other was going to say. Of all the things Raewyn had expected, she never expected her friend to insinuate she should stay here. She figured he’d be delighted that she came with him. It would offer extra safety, she thought of them as close friends, and he had always spoken to her about the Shire. And now he was asking her why she would join him?
Why did she join him? It wasn’t because it was her goal in life to find a home in the Shire. It was too calm for her liking. She’d be surrounded by hobbits who would continuously stare at her, and she’d be obligated to bother Bilbo every second of the day. There were no conflicts she could help with, or spaces she could explore when she’d grow bored. She’d inevitably grow bored. However peaceful it sounded, the Shire was no place for an Asha, even if they spent their lives defending it.
She also didn’t want to go back into the wilds. It’d be much too different now. Somewhere along the journey she had begun to forsake the life she had grown so accustomed to. Perhaps she wanted to return to it just for the familiarity of it; not because she liked it.
Bilbo’s voice tore her out of her thoughts, which she hadn’t even known she was stuck in. “You don’t want to go.” It wasn’t a question; it was a statement. If it had been a guess, it would have been an excellent guess. She wasn’t going to admit that out loud. “They don’t want me here, Bilbo. Not really.” Raewyn spoke up. Not in a defeated tone, or a tone laced with sadness, no - she spoke it as if it was a well-known fact. To her, it was. “I’m not a dwarf; this isn’t my place.”
“You’re scared.” Bilbo countered, shocking even himself that those words tumbled out so easily. Furrowing her eyebrows together in offence, she stared at him. “No, I’m not.” “Yes, you are,” The hobbit returned, surprised at himself for going against Raewyn, who could easily knock him out if she wanted to, especially if she was angry. She seemed angry now. Be that as it may, he continued: “You’re scared that you won’t belong.” “Of course I don’t belong,” She noted in a slightly raised voice, as if it was the most apparent fact of all time. There was no emotion behind it. And if there was, Bilbo couldn’t hear it. “I’ve known that all my life. It doesn’t scare me.” “It doesn’t scare you to be alone?” The hobbit repeated confused. “No.” Raewyn denied, shaking her head to emphasise her point.
Swallowing thickly, Bilbo balanced on the balls of his feet, nodding his head in feigned belief. His friend didn’t notice the faked expression. “You’re stronger than me,” he simply stated. “I’d be terrified.” A soft smile appeared on Raewyn’s face as she listened to him: “You’re a hobbit. You’re sociable by nature. I was raised alone.” Her justification didn’t seem right to him, but he refused to completely argue with her logic. “That doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t scare you.” He mumbled in empathy, refusing to meet the Asha’s gaze. When she figured out he wasn’t going to look at her, she just closed her eyes in frustration, turning around as she pointed towards the door. “Can we just go?”
The hobbit followed her instructions silently, risking one last look into the room he had slept in for the past days, before ultimately closing the door. Raewyn let him lead the way. The dwarves had prepared their departure from Bilbo, but she hadn’t told them anything about her own choice. Bilbo was going to say goodbye, as they had planned, and she’d wait outside. Perhaps keeping her venture a secret wasn’t the best idea, but knowing the company, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
The morning air was cold, hot clouds forming from her mouth as she stood outside, watching Farris circle her continuously. Gandalf had stood beside her in silence, though his looks said enough. He knew arguing with her would be futile, but the least he could do was give her a couple glances. She felt it. She wasn’t going to respond to them.
Before long, Bilbo finally emerged from the gates, a troubled expression on his face. He awkwardly nodded towards the pair, contradicting what both the ranger and wizard had expected - Bilbo was ecstatic to go home. They had expected a slight smile or relieved sigh. Not this uncomfortable nod. He didn’t speak, he didn’t mutter - nothing. The pair just followed him silently, unsure of what to say or do. A heavy feeling settled in Raewyn’s pit the further they strayed from the mountain. They weren’t even in Dale yet when the lump in her throat had become scratchy and painful.
Almost as if he could sense it, Bilbo turned around, stopping in his steps. Swallowing down the unpleasant lump, Raewyn tilted her head slightly. “Bilbo?” “What makes you happy, Raewyn?” He asked without skipping a beat, giving her an accusing look. It was the first thing he had said since leaving Erebor.
It wasn’t the fact that they had been walking for a handful of minutes now and those were his words - it was the stone cold undertone to his question that had taken her aback. “Beg your pardon?” “What makes you happy?” He repeated, his voice even colder now, as if she had just committed the greatest crime known to him. Be that as it may, she tried to make light of the situation, not looking forward to days of walking in another hostile silence. “Um, rain?” She thought aloud. “The smell of freshly baked bread?” Bilbo refused to answer, which caused her to let out a hesitant ‘hedgehogs?’.
“Not that.” The hobbit dismissed. “Well, that’s what makes me happy.” “No, it doesn’t.” Bilbo interrupted. From the corner of her eyes, she could see the wizard shift slightly, chuckling under his breath with a ever-so-prominent smile. “Sorry?” “Rain doesn’t make you happy.” The hobbit went on. “I don’t think you truly know what can make me happy.” Her tone had dropped slightly, no longer amused with Bilbo’s speech. “Oh, but I do,” He ignored her underlying threat. “So, I’ll ask you again; what makes you happy, Raewyn? Genuinely happy.”
“Warm sheets.” She deadpanned. When she received the same glare from Bilbo, she rolled her eyes, genuinely thinking her answer over. There were a hundred little things she could mention, but she knew it wouldn’t satisfy Bilbo. She didn’t know what would. There was truly only one thing that she dare speak aloud that might give him some contentment: “Peace?” “Peace?” Bilbo repeated with a somewhat relieved sigh. “For who?”
For who? She could have wished peace upon everyone - wishing it for herself would seem selfish. But, then again, it had been the one thing she had been longing for for years: a home. Somewhere safe and content. A happy place, without malice or hurt.
“Myself,” She confessed, but not without a scoff. “To not fight every day. A place I could call home.” She then pointed to her friend, a heavy breath following her words in defeat. “Kind of what you have.” “A home,” Bilbo voiced with content, finally satisfied with her answer. “That’s here. Why do you run from it?” There was that dreadful lump in her throat again. Just when she had begun to forget about it, it returned, now twice its weight. Bilbo was her friend. If she couldn’t be honest to him, who could she be honest to?
“What if I am scared?” She whispered, her lower lip shaking slightly. Bilbo’s face softened at her question, even though it did not come as a surprise to him. “You are?” “What if, one day, he wakes and doesn’t want to see me anymore? There’d be nothing left for me there.” He couldn’t resist the sympathetic smile forming on his face, his shoulders dropping with his words. “Raewyn, I don’t think anyone will ever love you more than he does. I don’t even think Gandalf makes a valuable opponent.” The hobbit spoke, as he nodded his head towards the wizard, who had simply stood there and watched the endeavour unfold. “I’m not ready to settle for that life,” Raewyn mumbled, swallowing thickly. “I might never be.” “You’ll never be if you keep wondering.” Bilbo answered gently, his unrelenting attitude finally calming down.
The Asha turned to Gandalf in slight panic, hoping to seek aid from him. “Gandalf-” “Don’t look at me,” He smiled. “You’ve been on your own for far too long.” The desperation was clear on her face. Having already been in turmoil, her friend’s word didn’t exactly offer her any form of comfort or reassurance, and Bilbo could see it written all over her. “Actually,” He coughed. “I don’t want you on this journey. I don’t want you to travel with me.” It wasn’t spoken in a soft manner, for he knew it would be futile. No - this was a command. “You should go back.”
With a crestfallen expression, she looked upon her friend, unsure of what to do. She could only bow her head in understanding. “The Shire isn’t what you’re looking for, not really,” The hobbit continued, his tone much more gentle as he walked towards Raewyn. “And maybe you don’t know this yet, for whatever dull reason, but you’re not looking for a place. You told me this yourself. Home isn’t somewhere; it’s someone.” His hand found her lower arm, giving it a comforting hold. “‘Home isn’t a place, Bilbo. It’s people’.” He quoted. “Weren’t those your exact words?” “I don’t recall saying that.” “Misty Mountains, after we encountered the stone gi- look, it doesn’t matter.” He trailed off. “What matters is that you have people who want you with them. Even the one person you’ve spend your entire life loathing wants you to stay.” He paused shortly, trying not to get worked up over Raewyn’s indecision. “You have something good there, Raewyn. I don’t even think I have that in my house. You’re not going to find that anywhere else, ever again.” Hopeful eyes met hers as she did her best to keep her emotions in, frightened it would be too much once it would flow free. However, Bilbo’s next words seemed to break the dam building in her eyes: “Please, go back.”
Quickly wiping away a stray tear, Raewyn grabbed onto Bilbo’s shoulders. “I’ll miss you,” She managed out, trying to keep her voice steady. “I’ll miss you too. Very much, so.” Careful not to put too much pressure on her back, the hobbit wrapped Raewyn into a warm hug - one that she was quick to reciprocate. “I’ve grown fond of you, Bilbo.” She sniffed, parting from him, yet keeping him at an arm's length distance. “Don’t do anything stupid. Keep yourself safe, for my sake.” He nodded his head feverishly at her words, bowing his head in farewell afterwards: “I do hope you’ll come to visit sometimes.” A heartfelt snicker tore from her as she once wiped away another tear that had fallen. “I’ll visit you so often, I’ll begin to bother your neighbours.” He smiled in return, his eyes now glossy as well. “That’d be lovely.”
Before he could fully break, Raewyn had turned to Gandalf, her smile fading into an unsure expression. “My dear Raewyn,” the wizard began, his eyes narrowing with his joyful expression. “I’ve been alone before, but this just seems much harder.” She confessed, walking up to him and wrapping her arms around him, silently memorising the way he hugged her back. Just in case. “Oh, but you won’t be alone, will you?” Gandalf chuckled, parting from her with a grin. She could feel the heat rise to her cheeks, but refused to comment on the matter. “Don’t become a stranger.” “You won’t have to worry about that.” The wizard winked, walking up to the hobbit, grasping his shoulder in acknowledgment. Bilbo got the silent hint and offered a final wave to his friend.
“Goodbye, Raewyn.” “Farewell,” She whispered back, remaining there on the frozen floor as she watched the two descend further down the mountain. It wasn’t until she saw their two tiny figures near the city of Dale that she finally turned around.
New-found confidence surged through her as she climbed back up, huffing in protest of the sudden exercise her back muscles had gotten. Thranduil had been kind enough to return her armour after the funeral, but it had been nowhere near injury-safe. In fact, the thumping of the metal might have made it worse. She was just grateful Gandalf had healed the most part, and she was left with nothing but scars and a dull ache. Be that as it may, she had laid down for days - she hadn’t this much exercise since the battle upon Ravenhill. By the time she had gotten back to the gates of Erebor, she was severely out of breath.
Her heart began to speed up at the thought of facing the dwarves after she left them without telling. Scratch that - she had to face him. Forcing the anxious feeling down, she grunted loudly, shooting a helpless glance at the sky, as if someone was going to help her. “Fighting a dragon was easier.” She mumbled under her breath, before ultimately walking back into the gates.
She was confused to see no one stand guard, but figured it had still been too early. The entry hall was empty, and her footsteps echoed through the halls. Farris, who had loyally followed Raewyn inside, had now found a spot upon the unlit chandelier, already pecking at her feathers. Confidence faded into hesitance when she saw Nori’s figure walking the empty halls, his back to her. She must have been too loud, because he turned around quickly, a surprised look on his face. He was swift to notice her weathered armour and heavy cloak around her. It was easy for him to piece two by two together.
“Lass, you’re leaving too?” “Where’s Kili?” She dismissed, completely out of breath, but still on the high of her adrenaline. Wordlessly, the dwarf pointed towards the large hole in the wall that led to the hall of kings. Raewyn nodded in gratitude, immediately taking off in that direction, not giving herself more time to overthink it.
In the room was a small group of dwarves picking up the rubble from broken pillars Smaug had left. Among them, Raewyn recognised Gloin and Bifur. On the other side, she could see a second, even smaller group of dwarves, who seemed lost in conversation. Kili found her before she could even see him, pushing through the dwarves with a relieved look on his face. She could vaguely hear his brother utter an apology, but she wasn’t focused on that right now. All she could really focus on was trying to keep her breathing down and praying that no one could hear her pounding heart.
“Thank Mahal, you’re alright,” The dwarf sighed as he ran up to her, grabbing her arms as he inspected her face, trying to look for any form of distress. “We couldn’t find you.” When his eyes trailed to his hands, he seemed to realise hadn’t been holding on to her tunic - he was holding onto her armour. “You’re leaving?” He stuttered out, his face falling immediately. “I am. I-I was.” Raewyn corrected, wincing slightly when Kili’s hands dropped from her arms. Heartbroken, he looked at her, his eyebrows furrowed together in hurt. “Why didn’t you tell me?” A hesitant sigh slipped past Raewyn’s lips as she tried to smile the discomfort off: “Because you’d ask me to stay.”
“Is that such a horrible thing?” Kili countered, his voice breaking, causing Raewyn to finally let down her defences. She glances around the room, noticing the crowd of dwarves who had begun to look at the pair of them. Part of her couldn’t care less about who saw them now, but she couldn’t deny that it still left her feeling slightly out of place. “Kili,” She began softly. “I don’t belong in the mountain.” “Forget the mountain,” He dismissed, not following her eyes. Instead, they looked directly into hers. “You’d leave anywhere without telling me?”
Her heart skipped a beat at his words, her hands squeezing together in attempted reassurance. “I know that wasn’t-” “I’m not going to ask you to stay.” The dwarf interrupted. Immediately, that build-up courage dropped, all her weight falling into her shoes. “Oh,” She breathed, the lump in her throat returning. She had made a fool of herself. Of course he wouldn’t ask her to stay if she decided to leave. He respected her wishes, but for once, she wished he would fight for her.
Her mind had already convinced her of rejection, so when he dropped to his knees in front of her, clutching her hands, she stood there frozen, staring at him in clear surprise. “Stay.”
Oh
“What?” She whispered, her voice almost inaudible. “I need you to stay. Please.” He wasn’t asking her to stay - he was begging her. She could have cried in relief upon the realization. “Kili-” “Forget the mountain!” He repeated, fearing she would start arguing again. “I do not care about where or how. I need you to stay with me. That is all.” His hands worked to remove one of her gloves, squeezing it tightly when he managed to do so. She didn’t fight it. “I need you to stay with me. We could go anywhere. I’d run with you.” A deep breath came from him as he looked up at her, the sight of him almost having her drop to her knees as well. “I have spent a lifetime looking for you, and I’m not going to let you leave without at least trying. And I am sorry I didn’t try sooner. I should have. But I was scared and stupid and you were truly all I could ever want.” He cried. “So, please, don’t leave me.”
Finally, she held onto his hands, no longer letting them hang loosely beside her. With wide eyes and an open mouth, she stared at him. “I’m not leaving.” She whispered. Now, it was his turn to be confused: “What?” “Well, I was going to, but- hobbits can be quite rude.” She rambled, dropping to her knees in front of him, joining him on the golden floor. “I was terrified,” She admitted. “I have never been that scared in my life. Kili, my hands were shaking at the mere thought of you, because all I could think about was how you would eventually tire of me.” Tears of lament began to gather in her eyes at the thought. “How could I ever tire of you?” Kili asked genuinely. One of his hands let go of hers, now raising to her face, cradling her cheek gently. “Raewyn, you could burn down everything and everyone I care for, and I’d still have you.”
A choked sob escaped the ranger at his words, a sorrowful smile on her face as she dropped her head, chuckling at her own sadness. “I’m sorry,” Kili looked at her, fearing rejection would hit him next. “No, it’s…” He mumbled, trying to push his pain down. “It’s alright.” “I didn’t- Ki, that’s not what I meant.” Raewyn corrected, lifting her head to look back at him. “I’m sorry it’s me. You deserve more.” “More than you?” He grinned, the tears gathering in his eyes slowly slipping down. “I don’t think that exists.” She could only laugh poorly at that, sniffing as she attempted to regain her posture. “Stay. Please.” The dwarf pleaded for a final time.
The Asha rose to one knee, her hands fumbling with the outer layer of her clothing, seemingly looking for something. When she found it, she took it out of her pocket, dropping it into Kili’s open palm. The dwarf stared at the object, his vision now blurring through the emotions. Though he couldn’t see it clearly, he knew what she had lain there. A small, silver piece of jewelry, finely engraved with a Dwarvish rune that was only carried by one bloodline the world still held. “Rae-” “It is yours,” She cut him off with a hushed tone. “As is my love. But, please,” She closed his palm, looking into his eyes with a look he had never seen before. “Put me in a silly dress and take me to your stupid meetings.”
A pathetic chuckle came from him as he wiped his tears off on their intertwined hands. “What colour should your silly dress be?” She laughed with him, her forehead falling against his, relishing under the touch. “Whatever colour you’d like.”
Slowly, his head rose from hers, that same boyish, yet emotional grin on his face. It was more mature now, but no less attractive. Before she could really come up with anything to say, both his hands cupped her face, his thumbs rubbing against her cheeks. Gently, he leaned forward, trying to seek any form of discomfort on her face. In response, she copied his movement, halting his hesitance by placing her lips on his. The one leg that had sat up when finding her bead returned back to the floor as her hands wrapped around his neck, forcing herself into his hold, its familiar embrace soothing her still swirling nerves. The way his thumbs were still brushing against her skin did nothing to help the mayhem of butterflies in her stomach, though.
She did not wish to part from him. Not this soon - not now. But in the heat of the moment they forgot they still had an audience, and thus, she parted from him, but not before lingering just a little bit longer than would have been usual.
“You really want to spend the rest of your life with me?” Kili tried to joke, still holding her close. “I’m going to get very annoying.” “I’d burn down kingdoms if it meant I’d get to live my life with you.” “Please don’t.” The dwarf whispered, placing a quick kiss on her lips as she went to move back. When they were separated, his hands ran to his own pockets, pulling out a second bead, similar to the one he had given her before the battle. “Then, I believe this is yours.” He placed the tiny piece in her hands, watching the way she clutched it tightly. “My lady.” She snickered at his teasing tone, but was happy to copy it nonetheless, letting one hand run through his hair, gazing at him in silent admiration.
“My prince.”

Good evening, I have a question about how Tally would interact with an oc of mine. :D
She's Falmer royalty, having fled from the underground city her family rules because she was tired of putting up with the expectations and image being forced upon her as the baby of the royal family. Having lived the first nearly two decades of her life underground, her eyes are incredibly sensitive to the sun and her skin burns easily, so she's often wearing long sleeves and a hood, but she's still getting into the habit and is very forgetful. Would Tally watch from the sidelines and tease her about forgetting but ultimately not do much else, or would he fuss over her and make sure she doesn't? Of course I assume he'd still tease her, it's Taliesin, for Sithis' sake. If you don't feel like answering then please disregard, but if you do, thank you in advance. <3
He'd probably treat her as he would any other elf. The Snow Elves are, for the most part, extinct or heavily mutated into the Falmer. If she doesn't know much about her own culture, he won't push her. He may tease her about her running away from being a princess but still ended up needing to be a leader for her group of followers.

A little sneak peek of my book, Call of the Midnight Sun as requested by the Portland polycule lolz
Some backstory on the setting, it's heavily inspired by Dungeons and Dragons, but not affiliated with them because they're super strict on copyright... hence me coming up with names for the races and such.
Chapter One
The soft notes of a lyre rippled through the morning mist, soothing the very wind herself. The lyrist, her calm, practiced fingers plucking the strings, was a full-figured Forest Elf. Her long, white hair was half pulled back, and her lilac optics were fixated on the delicate instrument. A small wrinkle of concentration dwelled between her brow.
"Wysteria." A raspy, yet soothing voice called. This eased her out of her trance.
"Tala!" Wysteria chirped. Talamina, a cave elf who was but a few inches taller than Wys, is her lover. The two had been together for about a decade at this point, which would be shorter than you'd expect from the elves' perspective, whose race typically lives well beyond a few centuries.
"We're heading out, my love." Tala grinned, placing her hand on the small of Wys' back as the pale elf stood.
The lackluster shell of a temporary camp, nestled comfortably beside an ever-scintillating river, was home to a sizeable party of seven for a day and a half. However cozy the camp was, it was time to move on.
Frojyen, a wise old halfling monk, performed a quick head count.
Wysteria and Talamina, the two elves,
Valthen, a bubbly Drax, who was Wysteria's adoptive sister,
Mog, a woman born into Orc royalty,
Esvin, a spindly human boy who incidentally found himself a 'folk hero' of sorts from sheer unluckiness,
and finally Chickadee, a fairy who was Esvin's childhood friend.
Along with them was a trio of stray dogs who followed wherever the group wandered, whose names were whatever one came up with when feeding scraps to the poorly mutts. Two mules and Wys' trusty white horse completed the group.
Speaking of, Wys approached the horse with grace, hands outstretched. "Willowisp." She mewled kindly as the pale horse sputtered, leaning her gigantic head into her beloved owner's shoulder.
Willowisp was some kind of cob, not entirely fullblood but not entirely a mutt. Nonetheless, the white horse was beloved by everyone in the party, even grumpy old Frojyen.
"She's reliable." He'd say simply, though the sparkle in his eye was undeniable.
The mules, Abner and Matilda, were more there to carry extra things, the occasional foal coming in handy to sell when money was tight. With the mules packed, the party set on their way.
End chap. 1
Some things I feel I need to clarify!
- Yes, in reality mules are typically sterile/infertile, however in my book they can breed and have foals. They are their own species rather than being the offspring of a horse and a donkey.
- My elves have tails! Tala and Wys have long, tufted tails styled to each of their likings :) They're sorta like hairless lion tails except for the tip if that makes sense?
- I'm open to constructive criticism as long as it isn't too harsh, I am pretty sensitive ;(
- This is my first book I'm committed to! I plan to publish it in the future :0
AND HERE'S THE COVER! The edges and the title would be metallic gold :)
EDIT: Sorry for the weird spacing, blame tumblr. Alsooo PLEASE feel free to use my ask box to ask about my book!! I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to answer any questions!

Fantasy au? BUT cbs as the king with a renowned knight s/o: who was a guard of an enemy king that fired her, so she became cbs' knight and murderous wife with promise of the king's head before the wedding
Do whatever you want with this!
King!CBS x Fem!Knight!S/o (Fantasy AU)
Notes: Forbidden love (kinda), I replaced "S/o" with ''knight'', S/o is Fem!, CBS is sometimes referred to as "King Christian"
Cw: Mention of cannibalism, Gore (handling of a decapitated head), mention of murder, mention of assassination
The rejected and confused knight wandered the lands endlessly, hoping to get someone to guard with her life. Through sun and rain, through cottages and taverns, she eventually found the dark king's castle.
Tales of his dungeons being the darkest and most merciless in all the lands made her stomach swirl. Threats from his guards about him eating unwanted visitors' livers for dinner as she was escorted to meet the king himself. She kneeled before King Christian with her heart almost jumping out of her throat.
"You're one of King Charles' knights..." He slightly snarled at seeing one of his enemy's knights in his castle.
"Not anymore. Apparently, I wasn't loyal enough." The knight replied, trying to sound collected.
It was subtle, but King Christian noticed how the stray knight slightly clenched her fist in frustration. It made him curious of what she could do when she's fueled by wanting to take revenge on King Charles, who just so happened to be an enemy of Christian's. But he wasn't yet convinced of letting her in his army.
Convinced that she wouldn't last, King Christian sent the knight for dangerous tasks, such as slaying a bear for a rug, fetching a bag of goblin teeth for a mantle and a sacred flower protected by the fiercest elves. Though, he was surprised when the knight returned with everything he asked for.
Impressed, Christian let her join his group of personal guards, but that didn't stop her from exceeding more than the other knights. This went on for a while, she kept up a good performance and eventually she became a sort of right-hand to him.
Not only did he want to have a brave knight by his side to seem like he was important or just for show, it came in handy quite a few times too. Like stopping assassination attempts, or murder plots, or attempts to poison him.
Though, having his knight by his side so often, made King Christian realize he didn't have a queen. Well, alright, he knew that, but he realized that he wanted someone to rule his kingdom together with. He felt insuperior to other kings, for once. Other kings had queens, while he just had a loyal knight.
Christian may have considered a few ladies from neighboring kingdoms but his eyes soon drifted over to his knight. What would she think of ruling a kingdom with him? He doesn't know, but might as well find out. What would the kingdom think? Wait- who cares? He's the king and he can do whatever he pleases!
He hadn't noticed it, but the knight already had a soft spot for the king. It seemed silly, she was just a knight yet she was in love with royalty, with her own king. It seemed like they could never be.
That was, until King Christian admitted his feelings towards his knight and started to give her luxurious gifts to show her that she's really special. Though this all needed to be kept a secret to not let any rumors spread to other kingdoms.
It may have been suspicious to other castle staff on why the king and his closest knight spend so much time in private, but he just threatened them to not ask questions. It was forbidden love, yes, but the two really felt passion for one another.
After some going back and fourth, Christian finally asked his kingdom's finest jeweler to make him and his love rings with only the best stones, he felt ready to make a knight into a queen. His queen. Though, when he proposed, he noticed something weird in her eyes.
"I'm just a simple knight, I don't deserve to be your queen." She looked at the ground, wanting to accept the proposal but something stopped her.
"Love, don't say that. I'd move mountains for you." The king, once again, showed his secret. more sympathetic side and placed a peck on his lover's forehead before looking at her again "Are you alright?"
"If I'm going to be your queen, I don't want King Charles getting in the midst of it all. What if he finds out I'm marrying you?" She looked at him again, though her eyes were unreadable.
"Are you saying-''
"I want to kill him, he wronged me. And I want to show how grateful I am that you gave me a chance." The knight now had a determined look in her eyes, giving meaning to her words.
"Go on then. Get back at him. For us." With a smile, King Christian put his hands on her shoulders and sent her off.
It takes a lot of scheming and plotting to execute King Charles' downfall but when she's ready, she leaves with a promise to come back in time for their wedding. The king is left with all the preparations, though the franticness of it all and his love being who knows where gets to him at times.
It's a few days before the wedding when the king stands alone looking through his window, anxious about his love's return. Just about when he thinks about trying to look for her, she comes through the door, slightly panting, covered in some bruises and blood, dragging her sword behind her and gripping King Charles' head by it's hair.
King Christian rushes over to his beloved knight, cupping her face softly. He makes sure she's alright before taking the head from her, looking at it from all sides, and praising her. "Look at that, he's still got rosy cheeks."
He takes one last look at the head in his hands and uses his thumbs to push up it's lips, trying to make it smile. "Cheer up, mate! You're going to a wedding!" The slight messed up line makes the knight chuckle.
He then hands the head back to his knight with a rather soft look "As my last order to you while you're ''just a knight'', get this to the doctor, he'll get his skull for us."
The wedding is huge, a lot of flowers, furs, decorations, music, drinks, traveling the kingdom, and everyone knows about it from how grand it is.
If his wife wants to, she can still be murderous and fight. Christian doesn't complain though, he loves to see her by his side and covered in blood, guts and anything else that comes from slaying.
Ok I think I might get out of writer's block with this one (forgot to post anything original for like, a week)

This isn’t really revelatory or anything, but I think it’s kind of neat:
We have this depiction of the expulsion of humans from Xadia, right?
Tumblr media
Our buddy Aaravos is there, couple Sun elves, Moonshadow elf mage.
Now check out this baby:
Tumblr media
This is a segment from an image in the Tales of Xadia sourcebook, which shows a scroll depicting four scenes--the inception of Dark magic, Ziard’s confrontation with Sol Regem, the expulsion of humans from Xadia (shown here), and King Harrow slaying Thunder.
Those aren’t the same elves.
I spent like 20 minutes staring at this tiny image both digitally and in the print book, trying to figure out if the front one is supposed to be Aaravos. Which I don’t think it is. You know who these are?
Tumblr media
It’s pretty damn clearly these fine folks.
And that isn’t the expulsion of humans from Xadia, it’s a later, unspecified war between Xadia and humans. Thunder’s there, etc. etc.
So why are they in the depiction of the expulsion? Well, my theory is that this is clearly a human piece of artwork, given its sequence of subject matter. It’s either a living work with parts added as they become relevant, or it has to have been created fairly recently because of the inclusion of Harrow and Thunder. So what’s happening here is that reliable human records simply don’t stretch back as far as the expulsion--so the artist subbed in the oldest elven monarchs, or generals, or whatever leaders they had record of. It’s two Sun elves and a Moonshadow elf, it might as well be the same people? (The Moonshadow mage actually could be the same dude, just older? Hard to say.)
(Also one of these Sun elves, probably the one actually present at the expulsion with Aaravos, is almost definitely Aditi, the grandmother of Janai and Khessa that he mentions. Does the wiki use the second image for Aditi? Yes, without any kind of citation. Could it be the same person in both images? Having looked back and forth between these for like an hour now, I’m gonna say no. For one thing, the one in the first image is clearly a mage, and the one in the second is a warrior. Was Aditi maybe not present at the expulsion, having presumably had some prior commitment, and therefore could still be the queen in the second image? Also maybe.)
(Further digression on these Sun elves in particular: Khessa, the queen in the second image, and the other Sun elf in the first image all share the same face markings. Is this a sign of reigning royalty, indicating that the elf in the first image is also a monarch? Janai also shares face markings with the elf on the far right in the second image, who is also depicted in the human scroll. If the markings are an indicator of rank, that would suggest this elf is possibly another Golden Knight.)
Obviously, Aaravos is not included in the human artwork, either, since he has been actively scrubbed from history. But he’s able to sneak into being shown in his own narration of the event.
I dunno, I just think all of that is kinda neat.

His Royal Highness Prince Iorveth of the Free State of the Pontar Valley? Okay, but what about prince-consort Vernon Roche of Nilfgaard? How will they negotiate?
They … wouldn’t?
Like. First of all. Roche is a disgraced, commonborn foreign national plausibly implicated in the murder of King Henselt and, depending on where you set the timeline, also of King Radovid. At the end of Witcher II, he has literally nothing to his name. Crowning him Prince Consort of Nilfgaard not only yields no wealth or alliances, it is political suicide.
If we ignore that it makes no sense for the emperor to marry Roche, which is, to be clear, a fucking lot to ignore, then my answer is that Iorveth has no interest in negotiating with quislings and hypocrites. Roche will condemn Northern elves for fighting under the Vrihedd and Black Sun banners but Roche himself is just rolling over for the emperor these days? Fuck off! (The fact that he can’t tell Roche to fuck off because the Free State can in no way afford to offend Nilfgaard quickly becomes a source of deep, boiling resentment.) He remains icily within the bounds of politeness for diplomatic reasons but Saskia takes care of negotiations and tries to let Iorveth excuse himself as much as possible, the same way she handles Dol Blathanna.
(You can’t even get hatesex out of this scenario. Iorveth isn’t gonna fuck the consort of Emhyr var Emreis or of Geralt’s daughter. The first because cuckolding Emhyr is a suicidally bad idea. The second because it’s weird, and Ciri might mind less than Emhyr would but the optics would be bad for her if they were caught, and Iorveth is indebted enough to Geralt to at least not want to make things awkward for Ciri.)
If this is like, very AU and Roche was, idk, raised as Emhyr’s pet instead of Foltest’s or something, this … still doesn’t work because Roche is then Iorveth’s ally right up until the Peace of Cintra and the execution of the Vrihedd officers. At this point, if Roche doesn’t try to intervene — which I cannot imagine him doing, he would have no power to alter the decision and he’s not the type to break from the pack when given distasteful orders — the relationship is over. Iorveth never forgives that. He does not forgive Francesca and he would not forgive Roche.
Affiliation with Nilfgaard being a dealbreaker for Iorveth could be gotten around by making Roche consort of a different country, but I gotta say I’m not all that interested in royal!Roche in any scenario. princeveth probably kinda makes it look like I just like royal versions of characters but I don’t care about the royalty part of royalty AUs, I care about the power differentials they introduce. I mean everyone is allowed to get whatever they want out of princeveth but for ME the thing is that Iorveth and Roche are perfect equals in canon, right down to having equivalent ranks — or at least they are during the Second Nilfgaardian War and after Foltest’s death; the power dynamic is skewed in Roche’s favor during the time period where Iorveth has lost Nilfgaard’s backing but Roche can still draw fully on Temeria’s resources and military power — and princeveth is about what if they were not equals anymore. Introducing Roche as Iorveth’s social equal, from a country with more military power than the Free State (this is true of almost any country you could make Roche consort of, not just Nilfgaard), is just ... reinstating the canonical power balance but now instead of getting out the knives and fucking nasty against a tree about it they have to perform Social Niceties at each other. A completely different vibe, and one pretty much out of my wheelhouse!

The hobbit x Neko heterochromic teen reader part 6.
Feast of Starlight.
Tumblr media
It’s the feast of Starlight but Thranduil has a talk with Reader Chan.
Your POV:
My eyes fluttered open to the setting sun "how long did I sleep? Da- err king Thranduil is going to kill me" I got off of my bed and ran to my door. I was relieved but nearly had a heart attack when I saw Anna "the King is asking for you!" I nodded and walked out of my room but I noticed three male elves following us "Ann who are they?" I whispered to her. She smiled and said "they are your new body guards Meludir, Estel, and Elrolith." I remembered that King Thranduil said I will have bodyguards from now on "ohh right the king said I will have bodyguards." I said as we walked to the throne room.
We are in front of King Thranduil as he sits on his throne with his signature bored expression "your probably wondering what's going on?" he asked "yes" Thranduil slowly got up from his throne and descends from the stairs towering me as he stands in front of me "It was 17 years ago 2 years before your birth. Your parents planned on making your older sister queen when she became of age but Prince Arrow your older brother and their first born was not pleased. Since he was the oldest and the only son he felt entitled to the throne. Your parents saw his ambitions and decided to banish him but he thought out vengeance and swore they would regret giving the throne to S/N." I was confused and shocked "how do you know all this?" I asked "Elrond, Gandalf, Galadriel and myself were there that day" I nodded my head "two years after your brothers banishment your mother queen Titania became pregnant with you, and your father, King Hunter retired as a warrior to make up for the lost times he had with your siblings. That necklace your wearing is your mother's." he said picking up my butterfly key necklace, my eyes widened from the tale I really was royalty but I was still wondering why S/N kept this from me. "On B/D (birth date) 2928 you were born, but when you were 2 weeks old some how Arrow found out about your birth and send an army of Orcs to kill you because if anything were to happen to S/N you would be heiress to the throne of K/N. But your parents told S/N to run with you to the village you grew up in, the reason why she kept this from you is because your parents begged her to give you a normal life away from your home kingdom and to keep you safe." My eyes went wider from trying to process all this "By the way we have a feast in 3 hours so Anna will get you ready, I already picked out your outfit and I expect you to be on your best behavior." I nodded and went to my room with Anna, Meludir, Estel, and Elrolith.
3 hours later no one's POV:
You and Anna stand in front of your body mirror admiring the gorgeous silver dress Thranduil picked out with matching high heels and a silver circlet.
Tumblr media
"You look absolutely gorgeous Y/N." Anna said in awe "I did a good job if I do say so myself." you heard Thranduil say. You turn to see Thranduil In burgundy robes with his twig crown next to him you see an elf with Shoulder length brownish black hair in beige robes and a gold circlet "this is the neko girl you told me about Thranduil?" The elf asked in awe "yes Elrond. She'll also be living with me from now on." Thranduil told the elf you now know as Elrond "it is an honor to meet you my lord." You said in sindarin making Elrond go eye wide "She is already fluent in sindarin?" Elrond asked "my sister taught me since I was 2." You told the elf lord who is still in shock "alright let's head to the feast, The boys are impatient enough." Thranduil said as you took his huge hand.
At the feast:
The feast of starlight was amazing the room was well decorated, the smell of food was in the air the wine making you crinkle your nose since your under age of course.
You are sitting with Thranduil, Elrond, Legolas and Elronds twin sons Elladan and Elrohir. Dual to  your Small height you had to sit on Thranduil's lap "she's so cute. I wanna take her home." Elladan gushed over you "Adar can we keep her please?" Elrohir asked pleadingly making Elrond give his sons a stern look "boys behave. She just started living in Mirkwood." He told his sons what Thranduil told him.
As you sit on Thranduil's lap eating your salmon (you suggested it) You let out a happy purr since it's been months since you've had your favorite meal causing the 5 men to look down at you in surprise "Guess that part of Nekos is true. They really do purr." Legolas said in awe but with a nose bleed "son go to the wash room before you bleed on the floors." Thranduil said with a handkerchief over his own bloody nose "ADAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!" The twins said together "Alright Y/N it's time for bed! You have your lessons tomorrow." Thranduil said scooping you up like a parent carrying their child and making his way to your new chambers you peaked from his shoulder to see Legolas passed out on the floor with blood coming from his nostrils and the twins being bonked on the head by their father who also has a nosebleed.

Gem and Fwhip after the rapture?
After flying away on Gem's dragons, They live peacefully not knowinf what happened to their friends (and lover). Gems fine not knowing what happened, and as bad as fwhip wants to know too hes scared to go to Mythland and possibly find his husband ally dead.
Gem tells stories, writes what she remembers, so that their lives wont be another page lost to history.
Fwhip builds what he can, makes what he can so his legacy wont be lost. Knows that when they die because despite being Vampires the myth of immortality is that: a myth. They live long, longer than humans and half elves or any other hybrids (Sausage, Joel) but they dont live longer than gods, than elves. Fwhip wants a legacy, and so he creates. He builds, he lives as he can.
And Gem does too. She doesnt spend her time in front of a book, or a class, or a grimore. She spends her time with Fwhip, with their new home village, with the kids around them. She doesnt focus on the things that dont matter, on if shes doing whats best for her empire or if she knows all the spells being taught at her school.
And theyre a lasting memory for years to come. Even after their passing, even 1000 years later when their small village has turned into something big and has become a cursed kingdom to a princess who begs and wants to know why her life is so hard, she always goes back to the pictures in her family's castle of the first royalty to step foot in her town.
Of the two gingers who remind her of a pesky goblin and a princess of the sun. The two gingers who's teeth are too sharp to be human, and whose ears are too pointy to be human, but not enough to be elven or of witchcraft.
As she stares at the first colourized picture for the time these two were alive, she smiles at their similarites to her friends.
at the end of the day, no matter how cursed her family is, the Princess of Glimmergrove knows the twins, unintentionally, who founded her empire would be so proud of her for doing her best.

My current headcanons for Third Age elven clothing styles
I’ve been saying I was going to do this since the first time I posted a drawing of Legolas on this blog.  It’s definitely time to make good on that promise.
Come the Third Age, elves seem to be a little bit less spread-out than they were in the First Age.  Of course there are some groups of them here and there who are just kind of doing their own thing, but for the sake of not dragging this post out for forever, I’m mostly going to stick to the main three elven kingdoms that we hear about in The Hobbit and LOTR.  Sorry I don’t have drawings to accompany the descriptions right now.  Maybe eventually I will.
To get this out of the way, disclaimers etc., these are almost exclusively my own headcanons rather than things Tolkien himself said.  Also they are general styles rather than all-encompassing rules that I consistently follow to the exact detail so don’t come at me like “Oh but Tarva what about so-and-so which you drew whenever-it-was, if this character is from Lothlórien why did they look like they’re from Rivendell that one time” or whatever, individual characters have individual styles, I keep changing everything anyway, etc etc.
Mirkwood Mirkwood has possibly the most odd style, due to them being secluded and not caring what anybody thinks because the only people they do business with pften is Laketown and who cares what they say.  Travel clothing materials are tough so you can snag them on underbrush and not have to worry about them tearing.  Their tunics usually are very short, leaving the waist bare, for greater range of motion (since they live in the forest they’re always up and down trees and stuff).  These “crop top” tunics also mean that they pack lighter for travel.  Since Mirkwood is farther north and more hostile than many other forests, shoes are pretty much a requirement, but they’re generally very light shoes that can be taken off and attached to a belt or something if you’re going to be climbing a particularly tricksy tree and will need better mobility and grip.  Mirkwood elves often wear leaves in their hair, both for camouflage and for aesthetic.  On occasion they’ll put spots of pale paint on their bodies and faces to imitate the dapples on a deer’s flanks because they think it looks nice.  Of the three best-known elf kingdoms, they’re the one with the most feral vibe.
Lothlórien Lothlorien elves wear grey and silver clothes and love shinies and stuff so their jewelry is all gems and stars and sparkly and chains as thin as spider webs; anyone who’s not royalty (or in direct and specialized service of royalty) has pads on the insides of their legs from the knees to the ankles for protection as they climb trees, and everything is made for climbing and disappearing in the shifting light and shadows.  Lothlorien is where ethereal reigns supreme.  By moonlight everyone looks like they’re made of mist and dew and spider silk and like they will evaporate when the sun rises; by day they look like shadows on water over a stony stream bed.
Rivendell Rivendell elves have long, sweeping clothes for maximum drama since they don’t really have to do a lot of fighting compared to the elves east of the Misty Mountains (and they’re also dramatic and have so many Ñoldor and those guys are Just Like That™). The jewelry is exquisite and the clothes are covered in rich embroidery: it’s clear that they’ve gathered the wisdom and skill of every race from every age of the world.  Long capes and long robes and long hair for everyone.  The people themselves look as rare and beautiful as the clothes they wear.  This is the elven kingdom where you are most likely to find deep, rich colors; as soon as you walk into Rivendell you get the sense of being surrounded by wisdom and history and tradition, but simultaneously it feels unreal; everyone has a personal history thousands of years old but is still a child in their wonder of the world.  Elves are climbing trees in floor-length satin mantles without getting caught on the branches, and singing nonsense songs on gem-encrusted harps that were brought from across the sea before the first sunrise.  But somehow they’re still the least unnerving lot of elves in Middle Earth because at least they live in actual buildings instead of tree houses or caves and they probably won’t kill you on sight if you accidentally stumble upon their hideout.
TLDR: If you see a Mirkwood elf run past in the woods, you ask yourself “What the heck was that?” and now you’re on edge wondering what strange forest spirit you just disturbed. If you see a Lothlorien elf run past in the woods, you assume the light is just playing tricks with your eyes because “that was a strange shadow, I could have sworn it moved.” If you see a Rivendell elf run past in the woods, you’re awestruck and you begin wondering if reality really was what you always thought it was...for the rest of your life you keep wondering if you’ll see them again...

Alfheim was the most beautiful and serene realm. Everything was in perfect balance with the nature, snow covered mountains were raising in front of the icy blue sea, forests so thick that only the elves could pass without getting lost. Not that many other creatures of the other realms visited Alfheim, not since the queen close up every alliance and deal, no one was trading with the elves anymore. Not since the queen started ruling over the realm after her father's death.
However, she decided to close the gates because of a prince, the prince of Asgard. No, not the one with golden hair and broad shoulders, who could win a war by himself. She was engaged to the dark prince, the shadow, the snake everyone was afraid of... except her. (Name) was more than happy to be engaged with Loki. She prepared herself for that one day throughout her life. Now she sat on Alfheim's throne, lonely and hardened by others' cruelty. Now she was a fearsome ruler but a just one. Her people loved her dearly because she stopped the other realms' influence on Alfheim and because she treated everyone good. (Name) trained day and night, indulged in her duties as a queen, never stopping, never tiring of the things she needed to do. She worked hard earning Alfheim's independence and glory back. The realm was again strong and no one had to starve. She looked over her realm from her study having to take a break sipping on a cup of hot jasmine tea in hopes it would help her stay awake. Her features were sharp, her collar bone jutting out a little, her waist narrow and her neck slim because she ate little and worked hard. Her long (h/c) hair was let out except two small braids running from her temples to the back of her head pinned together to keep her hair out of her face. She needed no make-up because she was beautiful even without it, her long eyelashes brushing her skin as she blinked while taking a sip of the tea. She remembered him... she could never forget those blue-green eyes, those sharp cheekbones, the pale skin that seemed so silky, the long raven black locks. She burned his memory in her mind so she would never forget how he humiliated her in front of the whole Asgardian court.
Flashback~
(Name) stepped out of the carriage with her father and brother, all of them dressed in their formal attire. Her heart was beating so fast in her chest and her pointed ears were burning from the excitement. She was preparing her whole life for this one day and ever since she first laid eyes upon her fiancée she was in love.
They met once when they were still children and their parents agreed of the engagement. Now, she was of age to marry and bond the two realms in the union of their marriage. This was her duty as the royal princess. Servants hurried outside to escort them into the palace. (Name) followed the maid who approached her with a deep curtsy to her guest room. The chambers were large and the light of the sun came from everywhere lighting up the rooms. Everything was white or cream with hints of gold. The elven princess was amazed by how luxurious everything was compared to her home where everything was in sync with the nature.
She was amazed but did not feel at home or at ease. It was so foreign from her realm that it made her feel like a stranger, an intruder who was not welcome by everyone. She felt the gazes of Asgardians who could have a peek inside their carriage. The maid left her alone telling her there will be a servant who will escort her to the throne room in time. She nodded and dismissed the maid staying in silence. She missed her mother who passed recently due to an illness the healers couldn't heal. She sat down at the sofa placed in front of the fireplace and let her thoughts wander.
Suddenly, knocking interrupted her making her jump up from her seat and turn to the door. The white wooden door opened slowly revealing the last person she expected. Raven black hair brushed broad shoulders covered by Asgardian light armor which was gold and green. Long legs connected to a narrow waist and a long green cape pooling at those feet reaching to the broad shoulders. However, her attention was drawn to those sharp cheekbones, thin lips and deep blue-green eyes that were watching her like they saw through her delicate form. (Name) curtsied immediately as etiquette told.
'My prince' she said quietly.
'Princess (Name)' his thin lips pulled into a polite smile that was a little forced but still captured her heart and made her cheeks grow rosy. 'I have heard about your arrival and I had to welcome you properly. I apologize in my father's name for not welcoming your family immediately but there have come up some issues with Vanaheim he needed to attend to. Would you walk with me until the ceremony starts? I bet you have not seen my mother's garden.'
'Of course, my prince' she nodded with a smile on her lips walking up to Loki who offered her his arm which she happily took. Her heart was beating so fast in her chest because of the closeness and she could smell his cologne. Not that she really needed to smell, she could feel it because of her sharp senses. Small talk was easy and light which helped her calm a little. Loki asked about her travel, her preferences but the princess noticed how eager he was when she told him about her home. He seemed to be excited about a possible visit to Alfheim. Compared to the rumors going around the realms about Loki, she couldn't pinpoint any of them. She saw no snake, no evil in him. She saw a prince, who could hold his ground in battles just as much as in politics. His eyes were shining with intelligence and he had this emission about him that made him handsome. Loki wasn't handsome in the terms most people interpreted it... no, he was more than that. He was charming, cunning... his intelligence was what attracted one, not that many could appreciate it because there was hardly a match for him.
'I have heard that elves are skilled magicians... is it a required knowledge everyone has to learn or is it a choice to become one?' Loki asked curiosity filling every pore of his skin making the princess chuckle.
'Nothing is mandatory, my prince. Magic is the base of our culture and everyone has the ability to use magic, however some decide to become a healer, some decide to invent new potions, some decide to practice magic on the battlefield. However, everyone has a basic knowledge of all in case a warrior needs to heal their wound quickly and has no time to wait for a healer to show up, or if a healer needs to defend themselves in case someone attacks them.' (Name) replied as best she could. Magic was always something common in her realm for an Asgardian it was something amazing. 'I know you wield it quite skillfully yourself.'
'Ah, mother is the best teacher I could ask for' Loki smiled with a nostalgic expression.
'Would you show me something? Our magic is quite different' she said in hopes she could see Loki be in royal spirits. The dark prince of Asgard lifted his hand in the air and on his palm a light globe shined up before he threw it into the distance. The globe of light exploded in the air showering the plants with gold and as the small shining particles reached the flowers they started to bloom.
'Your turn, princess' Loki smiled cheekily at her and in response she walked up to the large tree nearby which was dead ever since Loki was a child. She placed her hand on its trunk and sent energy into the wood. Light purple leaves grew out from the branches above.
'We use energy while you don't. It always made me envious that Asgardians has the ability to use their magic without borders' she said. A servant interrupted the two of them telling them that it was time for the ceremony. (Name) never thought Loki would be like what the rumors told her but she was naïve and expected the good of everyone.
End of flashback~
The queen of Alfheim wished a thousand times that she wouldn't have been so naïve and ignorant. She was young and ignorant never listening to anyone who tried to warn her, not even the Asgardian queen herself. Frigga was the only one who actually cared about her. She missed the blonde queen who was shining so bright anytime they met. She never felt so betrayed and her burning love for the dark prince of Asgard turned into fiery passionof hatred. She wanted to humiliate the now Jötün king to make him feel what she felt back then. Things however change just like politics and reasons behind people's actions.
Her once fiancée was threatening her realm and she was ready for the fight. Tarron, her brother was a good strategist and one she was trusting with her life. She watched her soldiers line up at the castle ready to march into battle on Jötünheim and she was more than ready to lead them and pay Loki back for the humiliation.
'My queen, your horse is ready' a servant bowed deeply behind her back.
'The Liesmith should prepare for his defeat' she smirked evilly putting down her cup of tea onto her desk.
Somewhere in the castle of Alfheim~
Rhys wasn't agreeing with Tarron's plan but what could he do against his lord? He was only a servant and he could be really thankful for not getting kicked out yet. He was one of the clumsiest servants but he was good at getting into anywhere and trade information with the other servants. He didn't want the prince's plan to succeed, it would mean Alfheim's end.
His short brown hair was revealing his pointed pale ears and the dark walls of the secret passageways cast dark shadows on his young face. His legs carried him fast forward in the cold and wet tunnels with the small paper in his hands. He was nervous but what could he do? He was only a servant and Tarron would kill him the second the prince would see hesitation in his eyes. Not that he was bold enough to look up in the presence of the prince. A hand grabbed his shoulder suddenly making him yelp in surprise but it was cut off by a hand grabbing his mouth.
'Ssshhhh! It's just me! Haldir!' the hushed voice of his friend interrupted his panic which was raising in his throat. Haldir let him go so he could turn around.
'You just scared the Hel out of me! I need to be somewhere, you fool!' Rhys hit his friend's chest not too hard though. 'I'm in quite the hurry! What is it you want?!'
'The prince is scheming again?' Haldir asked with furrowed eyebrows. No one trusted or liked the prince but he was still the prince with power and he was quite the strategist.
'Yes... and it is quite worrisome, my friend' Rhys sighed. In that moment the young elf had an idea of what to do. None of the nobles or sages liked the prince and if that small paper would get out of his hand to someone who could do something, then he would be able to do something to help the queen. 'I know that the prince will behead me once I return with no response but it would be better than doing nothing against his evil plan. Get this message to Asuma, he will know what to do with this.'
Haldir's face turned panicked and grabbed Rhys' arm.
'You cannot die! I will not let that happen! You can hide in my family's house at the far end of the capital. From there you can get out of the capital anytime you need to.' Haldir pleaded with Rhys who was still contemplating his options.
'Do you think he won't find me there? What will happen to your family? I'm not risking them getting into trouble' the young elf shook his head when Haldir grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him into a kiss. His eyes widened in surprise and his cheeks grew pink.
'I cannot lose you... this is not how I wanted to tell you how I feel but hard times are coming... I love you, Rhys and I would give my life for yours' Haldir whispered pressing his forehead to Rhys'.
'We need to hurry, Haldir' Rhys panted. The young elf was determined to do something right once in his life. He got himself kicked out from home, he left his family behind, he had given up on his sister, he won't make anymore mistakes when he can do the right choices. The two young elves took the other path in the depth their hearts thumping hard in their chests in hopes their future would turn to better one day if they try to fight for what is right.

Chapter 1  ׂׂૢ་༘࿐:when kingdoms fall only memories are left.
It was a dark day, the sun was setting as the hues of the dark night were upon the Planet of Asgard and the stars were beginning to show. The kingdom stood at the edge of the sea of space mourning the lost planet of Alfheim. The nine realms became the eight. And every realm was mourning the loss of the Elven planet. The boats were propped up in the water being ready to be sent out into the invisible sea of space. The king of Asgard the Allfather of the now eight realms stood sadly with his people standing behind him. But to the right of him stood his queen and his two sons.
And the only elf left in the nine realms.
Anthiea.
The toddler stood between the two gods holding their large hands. The girl only reached their knees as she was clutching their hands with every ounce of power she could have conjured up but it wasn’t enough for the two norse god’s to even notice.
Loki, god of mischief and Thor, god of thunder, stood tall dressed in black armor while the little elf wore a black short gown that was laced with gold, for it was inappropriate for a child to wear the solid color black. Her brown hair was slicked back with a headband so no hair was in her face, which was all she wanted to hide. For she never felt more lonely in her short life. Her little face was all red and agitated but the tears she was begging to let out were building up in her bathtub she called eyes.
“On this day we celebrate not the loss of the planet Alfheim but the lives that deserve to be celebrated for showing nothing but loyalty and commitment to their kingdom. The Alfheim realm showed Asgard how to plant and prosper, providing food for those who can not. They showed us peace and how love could be a way to rule a kingdom. Their kingdom deserves to prosper. But they were lost cruel, cruel beings,” Odin began to speak his eulogy, his powerful voice silencing the people of Asgard.
Antheia sniffiled a bit at Odin’s kind words. She was whisked away in a wave of memories. She remembered wearing simple gowns in the kingdom's garden, frolicking , picking the rarest flowers in the galaxy to give to her mother and father. She remembered its petals: the ombre color of the blue pink and green was one of the most gorgeous flows of color she has ever laid her eyes on.
The young elf recalled when her father would set her on his throne telling her how one day she would rule her kingdom better than all of her ancestors. She remembered her mother creating her one of the most beautiful flower crowns in the whole nine realms. She blinked away tears dropping her hands down from the two gods who finally noticed the young girl smiling sadly while looking blankly in no where specific.
Thor kneeling on one knee placing his large hand on the tiny elves tummy tracing her out of her thoughts. The girl turned her face toward the god of thunder. She smiled a little wider while tears started to pool out of her eyes. She looked into his stormy eyes filled with sympathy and sadness. The voice of Odin was now drowning out the elves' ears.
“Hi little one,” The blond cooed softly, continuing the soothing motion on her stomach. He noticed her little hand sitting gently on his armor. His gruff hands went under her armpits lifting her body so she sat on his hip. Her tiny arms instantly clung around his neck as he shot off the ground he held tightly, securing her in comfort.
The norse god couldn’t even begin to feel how she did. How do you relate to a little girl who lost everything?
Thor couldn’t imagine a lifetime without Asgard, his mother, his father, his friends, Heimdall, and of course his brother. The people his land the place he called home. This little elf he was holding was the only one left of her kind left. The loneliness she was feeling was probably excruciating.
He looked to his right to see his brother’s face solem at the sight of the little girl clung around Thor’s neck. Antheia’s eyes fell on Loki. She bit back her tears as she offered her small hand as if he was the one in need of comforting. He graciously took her little hand which he instantly engulfed.
He wanted to be the one to hold her and tell her that she was going to be okay. But he knew if someone would have told him that he would be furious. Enraged at someone's stupidity to tell him he was going to be okay.
Instead Loki placed a small enchantment on her. One that would help her let out the emotions she was building up in the creases of her eyes. When he saw her tears start to fall he was relieved, children should express emotions not suppress them.
“Let them fall my love, those little tears are potions that will help kill this grief,” The raven haired god said comfortingly begging her to cry.
Thor heard- small choked sobs fall from her mouth. He had to urge to help her stop crying. But he knew deep down he shouldn’t. He bounced her up and down softly doing his best to subtly ease her. Loki had a stern face at his brother but still Thor hated the sound of her broken sobs so he continued to bounce the small being.
Odin the Allfather king of the nine realms began to notice her crying. He kept preaching his eulogy talking about the greatness of the Elven kingdom. Frigga the queen looked at her sons adoringly, seeing them both help a small child made her feel at least she did one thing right. Her eyes couldn’t help but sadly trail over to the little girl in her son’s arms. The wailing that could be heard from the girl was gut wrenching. Her small face was scrunched up very tightly and her tears were falling at an extreme rate. Big eyes were drowned out by the tears.
“I want mama and papa,” she croaked out into Thor’s ear. The small sentence made him cling to her like a second skin. He felt his own tears and wanted to let loose but he wouldn’t be weak in front of her while she needed him most.
I want mama and papa.
It stung. A baby. It’s all she was a little girl who wanted her parents to hold her and comfort her. And neither were there to provide. From that moment Thor swore to kill the people that killed the elves. For his sweet girl.
Because no one hurts what he loves.
Loki just stared at her confused on what to do. Her helplessness scared him. Such a defenseless creature. Bringing his lips to her small hand he placed a tender kiss on it just reminding her he was there. Antheia clutched his hand tightly in response. Thor watched the interaction before sadly looking at Loki.
Face solem and defeated, the raven haired god shook his head. Odin had completed his speech and Frigga wanted nothing more than to tell her sons to bring the little girl inside for a bath and put her to bed. But there was a big ceremony tonight, the celebration of life. The young girl was far too young to attend for more than an hour. So the woman compromised by giving her a bath before the celebration and let her eat supper before I went to bed. The woman was dressed like a goddess. As she was.
A long silk black dress that was a turtleneck where one side was built with some of the most rarest diamonds you could find in the whole nine realms, high heels that could make even the most petite maiden look tall, and her long hair was done up half up and half down with many soft braids decorated around the braid. Frigga started over to her sons, placing a loving hand on their shoulder. Both men looked over to their mother who had a soft, kind, smile. Both blue eyed gods softened when they met their mother’s gaze.
“Get her washed up and in soft clothes, she was not ready for all of this,” Frigga instructed her children.
“Of course mother,” Thor replied, feeling Antheia’s body slump against his hold. Loki just nodded in no mood to actually respond.
  ׂׂૢ་༘࿐
“Theia we must get you bathed please let me help you with the dress,” The raven haired god pleaded softly. The pair of brothers were sitting in the bathing chambers in their parents room begging with the girl to remove her dress. She sat on the ground zoned out from the rest of the world. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to listen, it was just that she really was in no mood to speak or to move. Her little head nodded signaling it was okay if they helped her.
“Okay dove scoot around so I can untie the corset,” Loki instructed softly but he didn’t wait for her to do what she was asked, he simply picked her up and turned her so her back was facing him. Slender fingers went to work on undoing the millions of ties as Thor stood near the bath making sure it was warm enough to put her in.
Both gods were no longer in their armor; they in short sleeve shirts; both of their arms were on display. Thor did look a little silly; he had a cloth draped on his shoulders, hair tied back, and alongside a simple dressing robe for Antheia. It was a creamy white color with a white bow on the top of the hem line. He watched his brother interact with the elf. He always enjoyed seeing Loki a bit softer than he would have normally been. When it came to Antheia Loki would take over a planet. A scary but true thought.
The god of mischief was crouched down helping the little elf disrobe, the only thing that was left to remove was her under dress. It was placed under her so Antheia wouldn’t itch her skin the whole night. But Loki's eyes noticed something on her back. It was moving. The top of her back right between her shoulder blades was moving.
“Anthiea? dove? Does your back feel a little off darling?” Loki questioned as he began to remove the undergarment. The little elf’s head bobbed up and down very quickly. The god quickly noticed a pair of tiny wings forming on her back. He held the dress so her bum was covered.
Pupils expanding like saucers Loki’s hands went to gently touch the delicate illuminated wings. They were so tiny that Loki’s hand could cover both of them. But why did she have wings? She was an Elven , no elves ever were known to have wings.
Then it hit him.
She was smaller than most child elves, she was much more dainty, and her white freckles. Elves had dark freckles. One of her parents must have been a pixie. Cursing himself that he didn’t recognize sooner.
“Brother,” the shocked god called over his brother who was playing with his hair. Thor just nodded walking over to the two. He thought Antheia was just being fussy and Loki needed his assistance. His long legs made it over there with much ease. When he saw his younger brother's finger pointed to her upper back you could tell at that moment they were brothers. The blond norse god’s eyes widened just as his brother created the same saucer shape the little elf looked at Thor with much concern.
Antheia turned around and was scared of her begging Loki for some sort of answer. His face contorted anxiously quickly not wanting to hear another sobbing fest. Little whimpers could be heard from her rosy lips.
“Shh, love you’re okay. You have wings my dear like the little pixies you read in those midgardian fairy tales,” Loki informed her like she was the coolest little thing in the whole eight realms. Thor was now on both knees gently examining her back.
“Wow look at you Theia you are not just an elf but a little pixie!” Thor exclaimed happily following Loki’s pursuit on the idea of calming her down.
“Pixie? I’m an elf,” the little elf-pixie said timidly fiddling with her long thick curls. The thunder god smirked before kissing the side of her head with all the admiration he could muster. Loki pre-occupied himself with flattening her hair and removing the head band upon her head.
“Well you’re both,” Loki told her flatly he would say he’s shocked but he wasn’t. It was so blatantly obvious.
“Does that mean I have magic like you, Prince Loki?” The brunette asked him with big alien eyes.
“Could mean that, yes,” He replied, helping her step out of the under dress completely.
“Anyone could have magic my dear,” Loki continued as he took her off the floor and toward the grand stone bath. Little flowers were decorated in the warm bathing water. He placed her small self into the water. She sat on one of the third steps so she wouldn’t submerge completely under the water. It was a large tub made of the grandest of marble.
“So you’re not a pixie?” Antheia asks innocently, holding her breath before plopping herself under the water to make her hair wet, shooting back up immediately. Loki was leaning against the marble bath both his arms crossed under him as he let Antheia play around in the water like a little guppy.
“Do I look like a pixie?” he asked sarcastically but the girl had no idea what sarcasm was so she nodded her head up and down as she held up one of the many petals scattered in the water.
“You kind of look like a pixie,” Thor agreed as Antheia swam to the edge where Thor was walking to.
A subtle chuckle could be heard from the blond god mimicking Loki’s pose. Thor took the petal in her hand and kissed it. She blushed softly and giggled at the action before returning to her water adventures.
“I do not look like a pixie!” Loki exclaimed, making them both roar out into a fit of laughter.
“You look more like a pixie than Theia does,” the elder brother jokes, finding a jar of the natural honey-vanilla scented soap and lathering it into the girl's hair suds.
“Prince Loki is a cute pixie!”
“Will you cut that out before I put you in time out,” The mischievous god said all serinoes laced in his tone. Thor took his soapy hand and punched his brother slightly shaking his head Loki glared at noticing his arm was now full of suds. Antheia frowned and gave a cute little pout making Thor kiss her soapy forehead making the freckled girl’s nose scrunch.
“Well I am the eldest so that means I'm in charge of the punishments and I say attack Loki with bubbles!” The blond said with a playful glare in his eyes as he quickly swiped a handful of suds off of the pixies head and swiped it all over Loki’s face. The god of mischief's face was in utter disbelief but it was until he saw Antheia tiny self standing on the step placing suds on his head was when he snapped. His eyebrows raised and his smirk turned to one like the Cheshire cat.
“Oh you two are in for it now aren’t you.”
Before the pair of trouble makers knew it Loki had used his magic to make them both covered in bubbles. For Antheia it wasn’t much of a problem but for the thunder god he was out of the water dry covered with bubbles. So as the little elf-pixie was sumberging herself under water removing the suds easily Thor was brushing the bubbles off of his skin as Loki was chuckling to himself helping Antheia remove the bubbles when she popped back up.
“Loki!”

“There you are ma chaton,” Loki cooed as he dried off Antheia with a fluffy white towel. Constantly shaking the towel around her, fluffing her around making sure the young elf would be soft, warm and dry. Thor had left to take a bath himself in his chambers. So the pixie-elf and the god of mischief were left together.
“Prince Loki?” Antheia said his name in a soft whisper. Her head was pointed down as she clung the towel around herself not wanting to lose the warmth.
Loki’s two fingers went under her chin gently plucking up her head; he had an adoring smile, one that is only shown to the little girl and his mother from time to time.
“Yes princess?” he asked, picking her up and placing her on his hip as he walked toward the door out of his parents room.
“Do you think mommy and daddy are in Valhalla?” she asked innocently looking up at him with those huge doe eyes. Innocence is such a foregin concept to him. He was so used to using snarky comebacks, and lies he had no idea how to answer such a delicate sensitive question.
“You’re mother and father were kind and strong beings, you my dear are a product of those two warriors. I have not a doubt in my mind your parents are looking down adoringly,” The god of mischief and life said with all honesty. Antheia looked at his blue eyes only seeing truth she nodded then yawned placing her little head on his shoulder finally calming down from the heightened emotions from today.
“Thank you prince Loki, love you…” she slipped , falling completely asleep. Loki smiled a genuine one. He clung to her tightly like a teddy bear.
“Yes little one I love you as well.”
