too overcast to see the moon

i brush mosquitoes away from your arm

listen to an owl cry / the angel comes

[ silently behind us

in the darkness the water is deeper

the angel wraps around my chest ( tightly, tightly )

i am bitten / i cannot scratch

you have carefully boarded a small boat

[ you are floating over & away

i do not know where i am now

maybe i will become algae / maybe i will become silt

the owl watches you kindly

the stars finally find their place

[ you make me smile

the angel squeezes me in two

flirting with us

bathed in moonlight

the stars twinkle as we kiss

The lake at night

The week was long and on Saturday I was still thinking about the challenge of the week: A poem about

that lake at night.

A short poem.

A haiku maybe.

Finally

I went to a sage up on a mountain high

hoping for inspiration.

He listened closely.

Remained silent for a long time and then said:

"An example?

Listen. Learn.

Look at this mountain.

Focus. Breathe.

Then return to your place

in the valley and... "

he stopped speaking.

Looked at me as I took a deep breath.

Irritated. Almost - irate.

"That's not a haiku.

The sillables, the topic.

Are you kidding me?"

He laughed and said.

"But this sure was one.

Great. Guess you learned your lesson?

Have faith in yourself."

The lake at night

The sun went down, calmness gradually prevailed and though I finished my cup of tea, I was still sitting in the backyard of the house for something inside me was telling me not to budge from my seat. So I stayed there until the sky was decorated with stars. They were like small wedding lamps glowing, overwhelming the night with tranquility but while gazing at the distant horizon, I collided with the question about the full moon. And like Sherlock Holmes, I crept out of my house looking for that bright rounded circle, but as I walked through the forest, a rose-scented breeze blew through the branches whispering verses about a lake. The hums of those words were like a hypnotic session and from where I can't remember how it happened, I found myself on the bank of a lake, eyes enchanted by the full moon floating over the waters. The lake at night was like an oyster with a pearl in it, too beautiful to be true.

Moonlight drabbled

Reflects off the black waters

A child’s laugh moves across the stillness

On certain nights

That eerie laugh
