Forever thinking about this gif in particular.
Tumblr media
It’s Echo confused and rambling while he’s still plugged into the Techno Union computer. How he’s still stuck in that moment in the Citadel.
It’s how Rex’s helmet is off so Echo can see his face for the first time in who knows how long. So there isn’t a barrier between them. So he can be as open and vulnerable as possible for Echo.
It’s Rex’s face, his guilt and shame passing over his expression. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s remembering exactly what happened that day at the Citadel when he lost Echo. It’s the sorrow there. It’s how fucking upsetting this must be for him.
It’s the way he grabs the back of Echo’s head to keep him from hurting himself. It’s his other hand as a grounding presence. It’s the way he looks like he’s trying to hold Echo together with his touch alone.
It’s all the history between them. It’s the shared loss of Fives. The grief. The pain. It’s the endless hours spent knowing and understanding each other. It’s the reminder that Rex met a shiny on the Rishi moon and watched him grow into a capable soldier and an ARC trooper. The same shiny he watched die at the Citadel. The one he can’t help but see even in this moment, after he’s been tortured and experimented on.
It’s how Echo puts all of his faith in Rex and always will. He’s never found a reason to doubt him even after everything he’s been through.
It’s the way Rex so very clearly loves Echo. The way he lets go so Echo can join the batch and learn who he is now. The way their trust transcends everything. It is woven through every story thread, every scene, every line said between them.
It’s a connection that can’t be severed because they’ve never stopped fighting for it.

I'm rewatching The Clone Wars, just finished "Clone Cadets."
Shaak Ti observes "The one they call 'Echo' never adapts to the situation," and she's right at that point; but I couldn't help but immediately think of (insert "Spongebob Hmm" meme)...

I might be in the minority in that I have never read any hint of jealousy at all from Hunter in this scene.
What I see is Hunter noticing that Omega and Crosshair have developed a bond; and considering that Crosshair has obviously been through excessively traumatic experiences, Hunter is wondering the full extent of what Omega went through for her and Crosshair to have become so close.
And he's concerned for both of them.
In the same story arc, he goes on to defend Crosshair when the other clones distrust him, and even steps back enough to let Crosshair look after Omega (that was a deliberate choice on Hunter's part, he saw that Crosshair had Omega covered and let it be, and no one will be able to convince me otherwise).
Add to this the fact that in the next story, "Bad Territory," Hunter tasks Omega with getting Crosshair to start facing the reality of his hand tremors (an assignment that will only be of benefit to BOTH siblings), I think Hunter is much more sensitive and understanding of what his siblings have gone through than we may have initially given him credit for.

I wanna know how Hunter became the leader of the Bad Batch. Like, not saying any of the others would have been better, I just mean, there were only four options: a sassy little iPad kid, a trigger-happy man bear, the problematic guy with the toothpicks, and Space Rambo. We can’t assume it was because he was the least chaotic, because nothing could be farther from the truth. In TCW season 7, Anakin asks him who they report to and he’s just like “idk man, if I knew how to fill out a report maybe I’d try and find out” and when Anakin gets snatched up by that lizard dragon thingy, the first thing his brothers do is get set up so that Hunter can windsurf behind it like a maniac because apparently that’s something he tends to do. In TBB S1 when Omega starts that food fight, Hunter tries to de-escalate the situation for approximately 3 seconds before throwing hands. All of his interactions with any sort of leadership involve a minimum of 70% sarcasm. The man has a blaster to shoot droids and chooses to stab them with a knife instead. He left cadet training and the first thing he did was get a massive face tattoo of a skull.
Like, I’m trying to imagine how that conversation went and all I can think of is, “Sir, it’s time to promote one of the members of Clone Force 99 to sergeant.” “…*long sigh*”

I’d pay to hear that rant.
*The Bad Batch get a new supply of ration bars.*
Tech: *grabs one and takes a bite* Protein rations. One small bite can fill the stomach of a grown man.
Crosshair: *leans close to Wrecker* How many did you eat?
Wrecker: Four.

I’ve been thinking about some people saying the bad batch played it safe. But I actually don’t think it did.
Playing it safe would be killing some of them. There was never an ending where they all died like some people were hoping. It wasn’t that type of show. And the ending wasn’t completely happy although about as happy as you get in Star Wars. Star Wars endings are always to some degree bittersweet.
Take TPM for example. The ending of that movie is relatively happy, but Qui Gon’s death looms large.
Playing it safe is doing the expected. All of them surviving was not the expected. Star Wars doesn’t need to be some depressing tale of forever wars and fighting them until you’re 70. Sometimes you can just finish your personal mission and retire. I am completely content with where Crosshair, Wrecker and Hunter end their journey. I don’t think we have seen the last of Echo or Omega by a long shot.
I think there were ways that they could have killed characters and still ended the show satisfyingly. But I do not think it would have been as satisfying. Plus, the show already had its quota filled by tech.
