“Should I? If I can’t help you destroy the Fold, then what exactly am I good for? Midnight picnics? Keeping your feet warm in the winter?”
His mouth quirked up in a half smile. “Midnight picnics?”

Dude publish the essays!!!!
so, let’s take out the one about darkling seeing himself in alina, because like he does and don’t get me wrong, he is absolutely atracted to her and her power, but let’s not forget he is also narcissist, so he reflects. he sees her as his other half, soulmate, balance whatever you wanna do here. but most of all he sees her as someone who will eventually stay with him.
let’s circle back to mal and luda. luda was “not weak, just mortal”... and so is mal. he is going to die one day. that’s not optional. how he can see alina as his soulmate and other half and just let her go through with it? how he can go throught with it, again? alina’s pain will be his pain or so he thinks.
mal dying is not just something he can let happen, it’s a bloody problem. because his soulmate has another soulmate, who is remarkably similar to the girl who was the reason all of this happening. now think about that.
