When I started regularly booking with @ dragonboy I told myself that he couldn’t break my heart again. He had already shattered it once, stomped on it, pulverized it to dust; there was nothing left to break. Then I’d scooped up that dust into some sort of kevlar case—an OtterBox for heart dust. You could now toss it off four-story buildings or drop it into fifty meters of water without damage. Wrong. Simon Snow is quite capable of eternally breaking my heart.

It was getting a bit long and I’ve been making steady progress with it, so I found a breaking point and have posted the first chapter! As usual, my title and tagging skills leave much to be desired, but hopefully the fic itself is fun. The second half shouldn’t take me too long to finish now as it’s mostly written.

Hi lovelies! I so appreciate all of you who have been tagging me, and as always, your shares have been incredible. There’s so many good fics and artwork to look forward to!

Here’s a bit of the WIP I talked about in the Ask Game, and I shared a little bit of it last week as well. It’s a sequel to Field Trip of Dreams: the eighth years are off on another field trip, a training exercise of sorts with the Mage. Unfortunately, Baz and Simon have been banished from the group for misbehaving. Less unfortunately, they are stuck alone in a cabin with only one (albeit filthy) bed. (If you didn’t read the first fic, just know that they very publicly got together in the end and everyone excluding the Mage knows that they’re dating now). Here you go:

Simon

Baz looks like a tragedy right now. He looks like something I’ve broken and can’t put back together. I reach out for him and pull him close, kneading his waist when he drops his forehead to mine. “Come here,” I murmur, even though he’s right in front of me. I press my lips gently to his. “C’mere, babe.”

I keep whispering that against his mouth while walking backwards, tugging him with me until I hit the bed and sit. Baz’s hands are on my shoulders, cool and dry, and he’s half-straddling my lap. I can see in his face that he’s thinking of pulling away, so I tighten my grip and leverage us back with my heel on the mattress, so that I’m on my back and he’s on all fours above me. I reach up to recapture his mouth with mine.

Baz lets me kiss him, but just as he’s melting down into my arms, he sits up with a sharp breath. “Snow. I can’t do this. It isn’t fair to either one of us.”

“I like it better when you call me Simon.” I rake a hand through my curls. They feel dirty.

“I never call you Simon!” He’s scowling now, and leaning further back. Small clouds of dust are kicking up in the air from all our movement on the bed. Baz stands up and starts pacing, then stops suddenly to fix me with his deep-water grey eyes. “You would do this now. Do you know how long I’ve—”

I’m sitting up and shaking the dust from my jumper. It doesn’t escape my notice that Baz’s eyes dart to my exposed stomach when I lift the hem. “How long you’ve what, babe?” I lower my eyelids in what I hope is a seductive manner—I probably look concussed.

Baz

I can’t even look at him right now. He’s spread his knees and leant back on his hands, and his face…well, he looks concussed if I’m honest, but just thinking that he has seduction on what passes for his mind is enough to leave me devastated. Simon Snow is disgustingly attractive.

Attraction isn’t the problem. (What is the problem? I seem to have forgotten somewhere between glimpses of bare golden belly and Simon leaning back with his legs apart.)(I should never have gotten out of bed this morning, Crowley.)

I’m hoping to have this all finished by the weekend, fingers crossed. Have a great rest of the week, everyone! I'm finally back and happy to be here. Yesterday was awful, so I spent the night trying to cheer myself up and ended up turning to fic writing, so I finally have something to share for once!

Went through a bunch of @carryonprompts the other day, and this one is one that really stuck in my head, so here's a snippet of what I've got so far:

The video is everywhere. Everywhere. There isn’t a person with some sort of social media account that hasn’t seen it at least 10 times today. And everyone has something to say about it. Their own opinions, theories, ideas, and gushing comments about the events of the video. It’s spread from a quick tiktok video to youtube and instagram, shared over and over again from person to person.

At first glance, it’s just a street singer killing a cover of Noah Kahan’s Dial Drunk, bringing everyone to tears with their voice and emotion to put into those four minutes, but that’s not what the focus is on. No, instead it’s the two boys in the crowd that’s caught the attention of the world.

Everyone wants to know more about them, and pages have been created in dedication to these two boys, trying to track them down and get them back in the same area.

Of course, the two boys in question are completely oblivious to all of it.

Not totally sold on the third person but it could be interesting. And the named song may change; it's just my current obsession.

An ask game for writers to procrastinate working on your WIP(s)

1. 🐬Tell us the name of your/ one of your WIP(s)

I actually don’t have any that are named at this point. Titles and tags are really difficult for me and I put both off to the last minute and second-guess myself into hell

2. 🍄Decriscribe your wip/one of your wips in the format of “___ + ___=___”

Popular movie retelling + flying goats = Baz and Dev have A Spot of Bother

3. 🌍What tags or warnings will your / one of your wip(s) need if you intend to share it?

Wraaaugugh, see #1 :P. I don’t know, in seriousness, I think the WIP mentioned above will end up getting a tag for sexual harassment or something like that given the nature of one necessary scene in the movie it’s based on. It’s not going to be worse than the source material, which is PG-13

4. 🧭An alternative title to your/ one of your WIP(s)?

Oh, to have so many ideas for titles that there’s ever an alternative lying around to spare :(

5. ⚠️Which wip your most likely to finish or update next?

I’m pretty likely to finish a sequel to Field Trip of Dreams (SEE WHAT I MEAN about titles?) this week. The eighth years are off on another field trip—this time it’s a weekend training excursion with the Mage. Baz and Simon have been dating for the short time that’s passed since FToD, but they manage to get in a fight on the bus trip to Scafell Pike, and when it turns into a sort-of-tussle the Mage mistakes it for actual animosity and sends them off to a secluded cabin to bang (I mean work🙄) it out. Absolutely everybody but Davy—including the other teachers—knows exactly how much of a “punishment” this is

6. 💾 What is your document of your wip/ a wip called? (not the stories actual title but what you've saved it as)

7. 🖍️Post Any sentence from your wip

“Shut up, Gareth!” we shout as one, Snow adding a few brutish threats as Gareth pales and turns back around in his seat.

8. ♻️A scrapped idea for your current WIP

I actually can’t remember. I don’t plot my writing out very extensively so in a sense there’s hundreds of little scrapped thoughts rather than anything huge. I’m eliminating a lot of things with my crucible marriage fic, but it’s hard to say right now what’s actually gone or just being moved around. I know a major one I’ve been battling with is that prior to getting dragged off to Pitch Manor by his new husband Baz, I want Simon to have been living with Penny in a flat of their own, but for another aspect of the story I want him to have been living with the Mage in Watford (which is an au mage’s settlement in the fic) as well. There’s ways to work around it for the results I want, I just haven’t written it out yet.

9. 🤔What's a story you'd love to write but haven't even started yet?

I’m pretty sure I have at least a few lines written down for everything I want to write

10. 🤡How many Wips are you actively working on?

Oh, man…actively, probably the field trip one and my COBB. Somewhat less actively: a reverse COBB fic, a sequel to Monsters Under the Bed, a sequel to After Hours where Simon makes good on his promise to despoil Baz on his office desk, and my unending crucible marriage fic. Less active than that: a fic response to a prompt for Simon being the one kidnapped and Baz has to rescue him. There’s probably (cough*definitely*cough) some pretty messed-up OOC smut stuff lying around in my docs as well, that I add to when I’m in the mood and have zero plans to ever post

11. 🛠️Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?

I keep telling myself to just write and stop worrying about this for the moment, but I’m kind of bumming myself out worrying about whether I want to use first or third person, as well as past or present tense, for my COBB. I think the issue is that some scenes are bound to play out better one way while others would be better served differently. This is not usually a thing I struggle with.

words aren't flowing at the moment, so I'm researching for both my wips. street art supplies + process for one fic, and skateboarding for the other. it's all very cool. I might procrastinate on writing even more, dig out my skates, and hit up the local skate park this afternoon. (more research, right?)

He shakes their hands and murmurs more apologies as the corporate guys leave. I’m bouncing my right leg as they all file out, bounce bounce bounce, I can’t stop, it kills me not to have my board right now, I need to move, this is all so majorly messed up. Once they’re gone, I try to reign in my nervous energy and repeat my previous statement. “I didn’t do hard drugs, Davy.” “Simon ...” “You’re seriously gonna believe the word of some random person over me? They were probably paid by the tabloids for that quote!” “Simon's right,” Penny says. “It's a tactic they use all the time.” “It doesn’t matter,” Davy says. He folds his arms across his chest, and he looks so ridiculous in that blazer, his shaggy hair slicked behind his ears, and it suddenly seems hysterical that this is the man who holds my career in his hands. His too-soft hands that haven’t held a board for over 25 years, but still tells me what to do with mine.

Kittens! These little ones are only a few hours old—3 females and 2 males, all born at the shelter shortly after mom was left with us. I did know the cat (Baklava) was very pregnant, but put her growling at me down to being unsocial. I now know she was in active labor at the time, and being pretty cool about it, all things considered. I had placed her in a condo in the box she came in, and was surprised a couple of hours later to see she hadn’t left the box—I looked inside and got an even bigger surprise lol.

Anyway, she’s a total sweetheart and a great mom to Beanie, Billie, Blossom, Bluebell, and Benny. They’ve all gone into foster with our excellent part-time vet, and will be back for spay/neuter and adoption once they’re big enough.

Happy Easter 🐣🐰 to those who celebrate!

I haven’t written a ton but I’m sharing anyways because why not? This is from the same WIP I shared from last week, tentatively titled Back and Back and Back. Watford-era, main plot still under wraps for now. But here’s a bit from Simon:

If it had been flying monkeys or paindeer again, I could have handled them no problem. But instead [the Humdrum] kidnapped Agatha and put her at the bottom of a well guarded by a wishy-washy, which is just about the most obnoxious magickal creature known to mages. You can’t fight them, they're non-corporeal. The only way you can appease them is by making a wish they want to grant. Except, you can guess by their name, they’re very fickle creatures. Naturally, it took me hours to word it just right. (I wish for this young woman’s freedom to pursue her own destiny.) (How I came up with that, after hours of cajoling, pleading and otherwise tearing my hair out, I’ll never know.)

Making up magickal creatures. One of my fave past times. 😂

Six Sentence Sunday

I’m avoiding the Sunday-dread-of-Monday by thinking about how talented & lovely you all are. I’m beta-ing several fics right now and have read several more lately that just blow me out of the water, they’re so good. And this fandom loveliness is not limited to people writing fic! Even if you’re not working on something now or ever tied to fic, I’m still so glad you’re here. I feel very lucky our paths have crossed.

“Well, that was fun.” Fiona announces cheerfully. “Tea?” And she casts a some like it hot as she crosses to the table and sits down. “Lovely,” my father sighs, sinking into another chair. “How did you change into the suit so quickly?” Fi says, eying him out of the corner of her eye as she adds sugar and stirs the cup delicately. (It’s the only thing I ever see her do delicately and it never fails to amuse me.) Malcolm looks embarrassed. "I might… have used Pretty Woman. I saw Davy coming and thought, if he can dress up for his visits, why can’t I?” He bites into a bourbon biscuit.
