tired: mermaids are all women
wired: much like elves, merfolk are mistaken by sailors for being all women because they have long hair and are very pretty

…yeah something about these week 1 viewing numbers has me feeling like we aren’t getting a season 2-
(for reference some of the more popular ones this year have gotten between 10-20 million in their first week/first weekend/3-4 days depending on if it released on a Thursday or Friday)
It feels like unless those numbers skyrocket in the next few weeks, it’s not looking too good :/
At this point we just need to hope that Netflix renews it because it’s Neil Gaiman and in the same universe as The Sandman, but idk if they’d actually renew the show because of that, so, I don’t know anymore.

All Netflix is doing with their advertising money now is pointing me to cool new books, since a lot of their originals are adaptations. (The Lockwood & co book series was really good!)
the way I would be so excited to put dead boy detectives on my watch list if I had like. any confidence at all it would get more than one season. like. congratulations to the "we cancel all of our cool and interesting new shows after one season" company for making me not wanna watch your cool and interesting new show because you'll cancel it after one season. gotta hand it to ya

disturbed by how little ppl acknowledge the secondary health risks of vampire bites. if your vampire lover is drinking your blood you MUST be up to date on your tetanus shot. puncture wounds are at especially high risk for tetanus infections. just because your partner was born in 1312 doesn’t mean you have to die like it.
moreover they should be prepping the bite point with an alcohol wipe.
and while I’m at it, I’ve noticed a blithe disregard for health & safety when it comes to blood pacts. can’t believe I have to say this but you should absolutely NOT be cutting your palm open with the pocket knife from your belt holster (??????)
if you’re expecting to be in a blood pact/oath situation please just pick up some sterile finger lancets from the pharmacy. cannot stress this all enough.

@dimiclaudeblaigan asked for a tutorial on how to begin drawing. Good news! If you can draw a funky looking stick man, you have already started!
I think that stick people are a great starting point for artists because of the things you can learn from them that will be important later on.
If you are able to draw a circle and a couple of lines, you can easily put together a stick person.
Tumblr media
Congratulations! You have started to draw. :)
A stick person is a very minimal artistic representation of a real life person. It is simple yet recognizable, and is widely used in art, media, and signage.
Tumblr media
But what can a stick person teach us about drawing people that look more like… well, people? Lets have a look!
By simply adding a few more lines, we can add a pair of eyes and a mouth. Maybe even a little triangle nose! Or half circles for ears. We can now draw a face, which provides a basis for all sorts of expressions.
Tumblr media
These simple additions can allow us to explore the wide range of human emotion and individuality.
Tumblr media
This may seem like the basics of the basics. But that is what we want! In order to get to the point where we are able to draw complex, elaborate representations of humans and objects, we will need to start with simple shapes like lines and circles and build our understanding from there.
For instance, lets give our stick person some cool new features, such as hands and feet. I chose little squiggly circles to represent hands, and triangles to represent feet.
Tumblr media
We can go a step further and modify the body of the stick person to include shoulders, hips, elbows and knees. These parts of the human body are quite complex in real life But here, all we need to do is add a few simple lines and dots to our stick person.
Tumblr media
The lines provide some additional structural elements to our stick person's body, which are the shoulders and the hips. The dots indicate the points of articulation - elbows and knees, the places where the arms and legs bend!
Now we can use our stick person to show us an even wider range of human movement, action, and expression.
Tumblr media
Our little drawing of a human being is evolving! All it took was adding a few more lines and shapes here and there.
By elongating some of the existing lines and making the head an oval instead of a circle, we can give our stick person proportions that resemble that of a real life human.
Tumblr media
By this point, we have managed to add more complexity to our stick person simply by using our ability to draw lines, circles, and other basic shapes!
Tumblr media
These basic ideas are the building blocks that will enable us to create more complex shapes.
The next part may be a considerable step up if you are absolutely new to drawing, but I have decided to include it in order to show you how complex objects like the human body can be built from shapes that are a bit more complex than circles and lines.
For example. Two ovals and a rectangle can be combined to create a cylinder.
Tumblr media
Six squares can be combined to create a cube, or a box. Here, each square is distorted slightly depending on which way the cube is facing.
Tumblr media
Note that the back faces of the cube and the bottom of the cylinder are hidden. These shapes allow us to visualize that which should not normally visible.
A sphere from all perspectives can be represented by a circle. But we can make it more like a sphere by adding lighting and shadow if we so desire.
Tumblr media
Cubes, cylinders, and spheres are examples of 'solid shapes' because they consist of 3 dimensions.
Lets see how these solid shapes can be used to compose the human body.
By stacking three cylindrical objects, we can create a torso. Two spheres have been added to form shoulders, while a smaller cylinder forms the neck.
Tumblr media
An arm is an alternating sequence of spheres and cylinders connected together. Note that the hand has been simplified for this example.
Tumblr media
We can apply these solid shapes to the rest of the body to give us a more recognizable representation of the human form. It doesn't even have to be perfect. And just like that, our stick figure now has a silhouette that is unmistakably a person!
Tumblr media
In the above examples, notice that we kept the stick person at the beginning while building up the shapes and solids around it. This is because the stick person serves as a guide for positioning the body and its various parts -> also known as posing.
You can do the same thing to everyday objects! Here, I drew a wine glass by stacking these three dimensional solid shapes.
Tumblr media
The cup and its contents are two ovoid shapes that were cut in half. The stem is a very thin cylinder shape. The base is a cylinder with a slightly wider bottom.
Solid shapes help inform us how objects and parts of the human body may appear from different perspectives.
Tumblr media
For example, a sphere can be used to demonstrate how the human head appears when looking up or down, turned to the side, or tilted at an angle.
Tumblr media
With these examples, I hope I have managed to convinced you that if you can draw a circle and a couple of lines, you can draw a person! You just have to train your eye to recognize the simple shapes within complex objects. Try it with everyday objects as well! Or even your favourite media! A drawing subject can be as simple or as complex as you envision it to be.
Tumblr media
Once you have mastered that, there are many aspects of drawing you can explore from here that may require you to seek additional resources or a fellow artist's advice.
Tumblr media
Last of all, remember that drawing is an iterative process. Even if you draw something correct the first time, you will need to draw it again and again to get it right all times! And by making small changes like the ones we explored in this tutorial, your drawings will gradually transform!
I hope what I've demonstrated here are enough to provide the basics of how to get started with drawing objects and people, and also to help refresh more experienced artists. :) Hopefully I didn't go too off topic with what was requested, and let me know if there are any more questions I can answer.
Cheers :3

I have GOT to stop coming up with villains whose dynamic with the leading couple is "I want to be your third and that is a threat."
...but I don't want to.

Maybe this depends on dialect, but I'm pretty sure the 4th image should be "meet", not "reach"? I always hear people say "meeting (someone's) standards". For example, there is a meme from the video game Undertale using this idiom. Papyrus says "Oh, no! You're meeting all my standards!" So I think "You're just mad you don't meet them." would be right.
2nd image: for Iris, maybe the past perfect would be better? So "God had blessed her" rather than "God has blessed her", because it happened in the past and stopped in the past? (grammar isn't my forte, though)
4th image: maybe "you're just mad you don't reach them" rather than "fit them"? (but it's a detail)
7th image, one before last bubble: you forgot the d at "wouldn't"
you also put a t at all the "standards" (so images 4 and 7)
and welcome is written with a c in english, but I think it can be a nice touch to indicate a lack of knowledge about a language, a bit like a foreign accent. (but since she was blessed by a god, she would be speaking fluently? idk)
She is blessed and I’m unfortunately not ahahhaaha
Thank you so much:3
Imma go reread all I wrote now👍

I have tried to choose a wide distribution of animals representing many different clades, aiming for relatively intelligent species within their respective clade. There are only 12 poll options possible, so no asking “what about X?” Inevitably some species will have to stand in for a much broader class than others, e.g., the Humboldt squid for all cephalopods. (But the Humboldt squid is probably a good choice: they’re fairly gregarious and cooperative, unlike the octopus.)
Uplifted species will have the capacity for language, abstract thought, tool use, episodic memory, planning, and self-awareness. Their cognition may in other respects be radically different from our own, especially if they are not mammals.

This is a version of the trolley problem, except the trolley still has a driver.
There is a person tied to the trolley tracks. You have been told that the trolley driver did this and will be arriving in 5-10 minutes to run them over. The person who told you this says there's no way to untie the person in time. You can pull a switch that will divert the trolley, but doing so will derail the trolley and kill the driver. Do you pull the switch?
The answer depends on how much you trust the person giving you info. Are they correct that there's no time to untie them? Have they tried calling the trolley driver and asking them what it would take to get them to pull the brake themself? Are they leaving out important info, like maybe an emergency stop on the trolley that could be triggered remotely? Are they sure the trolley driver is definitely the kidnapper or is there a chance they're being blackmailed, or even just an innocent bystander? If all their info is definitely, 100% accurate, why are they making you pull the switch?
I recognize that this is a thought experiment and thus doesn't have to be realistic, but in the real world things have a margin for error and I am uncomfortable with the idea that I'm being told it's 100% certain the aliens will kill all humans if the button isn't pressed. That's a whole new philosophical question. (And a practical one - they're aliens, right? How confident are we that their hostility isn't a mistranslation or the fault of one?)
I am curious about what Tumblr has to say about this.
So recently in the hell hole that was Twitter, I saw this:

And I want to see what Tumblr had to say about it. Credit to @MrAntiHero1 on Twitter for posting this originally. And please vote below.

I think it's probably like she said and she doesn't care enough to know the details.
But if she did know the exact details, she would only be mildly upset at most - "Sculptor look you made my new pet sad about his friend." Or maybe basic animal rights concern and then apathy - "You used anesthetic right?" "Yes of course." "See, little one, it's fine, wait why are you still sad?"
Or maybe Oscar being upset would be annoying, and they have no concept of humane treatment of animals at all, so she would just call someone to take Oscar away without a second thought.
(Ok idk what tf happened to this poll the last time I put it up, but all the choices ended up being the exact same so I’m doing it again)

GLUMP!!
What sound would a predatory tunicate make? Resembling a piranha plant from Super Mario Bros., these transparent invertebrates live anchored along the deep sea canyon walls and seafloor, patiently waiting for unsuspecting prey to wander by or swim into their cavernous hoods.

I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to [email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

Hello!
I'm curious what your thoughts are on the phenomenon one sees some times of people saying "oh we had a brilliant session, we didn't touch the dice once" (usually in D&D to refer to a social interaction heavy session or something like that)
This seems very odd to me and suggests the people involved would be better off with a different system. If you're having a session where you don't engage with the mechanics pretty much at all (and this is a good session to you) then why play the game at that point?
Am I off base, preaching to the choir, missing something? Would love to hear your opinions!
With the caveat that I don't think there's anything wrong with freeform roleplay, I would be extremely disappointed in such a session, and I'm very much in agreement with you: if people think sessions where the dice are not touched are good it probably means they would actually get something out of a lighter system or just straight up freeform, which there's nothing wrong with. But playing a complex game and then refusing to engage with the mechanics is very silly to me.
Like, me and my friends could pretend to be elves without any of the structure provided by an RPG any day of the week. And that can be fun. But games provide structure to that elf pretend, and if me and my friends ended up engaging in elf pretend without actually touching the rules, it would be all on us and the game itself had nothing to do with it. And like, there's nothing wrong with pretending to be elves with your homies, but the reason I want to play an RPG is to have the rules there as a participant, taking an active part in telling us what's going on with the elves.
Part of it is definitely people wanting to tell stories but the games they play resisting those stories, so they end up overriding the game. And I'm always disappointed by that. Because games have voices and they have opinions on what should happen. If people engaged with games as written they might realize that a) the game doesn't support the types of stories they want and they might be better off playing another game or b) that the types of stories the game tells are actually fun in and of themselves and there's no need to fight against the game in order to produce a good story!!!
Anyway that's why I keep telling people to actually try and engage with D&D and its many simulacra as written, because they might realize that the playstyle those games are built for isn't for them and find a game more suited to them, or actually see that there's value in the expected playstyle and actually engage with that expected playstyle instead of trying to emulate a playstyle that the game text doesn't actually tangibly support.
