Never Meant to Be
Childe x Diluc | Suggestive Content, Angst
He was lulled in by the pull of his belt, deft fingers skimming his skin as gentle lips met his. He needed this. They both did. They fought tooth and nail every waking moment it became tiring…and now? Now they found comfort and safety in each other. The soft press of their lips suffocating him to the point air had stabbed at his lungs when they pulled away.
It was strange how such things worked. It started so hateful, nails biting harshly at pale skin leaving bruises, kisses violent and desperate for nothing in particular other than their own pleasure — pleasure that would eventually lead to their demise. It had flooded their minds to the point logic had faded, the faintest reminder that he was a Harbinger and the other an esteemed wine tycoon, both horribly broken, teasing the corners of his mind.
They were never careful with the broken shards that were left behind. The aftermath of their chaotic dance leaving little to cherish. They’d simply dropped the pieces to the floor and left. That’s how it was and how it always would be. It’s what it should have been. Now however?
Now, tears fell, skilled fingers dancing carefully, scared to even touch the milky skin after having abused it relentlessly. Faint gasps and pleas for something filled the room as tears glistened. It wasn’t pleasure they sought out but comfort. Company. Despite being destined to a destructive path of loneliness they found comfort in each other. Diluc had found comfort in him, and Childe found comfort in Diluc.
The dull ache of Childe’s heart reminded him he was in fact human. The shy kisses to his neck made him believe he was human. What they had shouldn’t have been. Broken people searching for something blindly as showers of red spilled over creamy shoulders. The warmth they shared had made him feel alive. Loved even. To be loved…that was all he ever wanted.
The tears that stained and coated his cheeks were kissed at, scarred hands cupping his face as they held each other closely. This was all they ever needed — far too enamored in their own righteousness and worlds the idea of loving the other was absurd…but now? Now it felt right. Like it was meant to be.
They were only ever rough but now they shared a moment of fleeting touches and slow kisses under the moonlight as the plush bed dipped. Despite the thoughts that ran aimlessly in their heads and anxiety prickled skin, they left the world behind the locked bedroom door, finding a whole other world in each other.
Hovering over him, ocean eyes took in the view of a gorgeous red that had bled over the pillows, strands of hair curling as the sun slowly began to rise, hues and tints of yellows and purples making his skin glow beautifully. The soft pull of his fingers against fabric and cloth was urgent and anxious. New. With hushed breath he spoke, voice thin, shrill as it quivered under nervous breath.
“Are you sure?” He prodded, distant and doubtful. Childe — Ajax rather — didn’t feel worthy of his love. Didn’t feel like he was deserving of it, nor could he ever return the same amount of affection he would show him after this intimate moment they were sharing. Smooth fingers wiped at his tears, dull eyes fluttering shut as he pressed a chaste kiss to his palm. He wasn’t sure if he could do this. If he had the ability to do this. To give him the love Diluc deserved.
“Yes.” A straightforward and blunt answer with little hesitation. The response was confident, sure and trusting. His lips quivered as he held back a cry that threatened to break from his throat. Despite it all he trusted him. Diluc trusted him. He didn’t have to hear him or see the look in his eyes to know. He knew simply by the gentle caress of his cheek.
When a moment had passed with little movement, Diluc had pressed light kisses to his jaw and neck, sure to kiss his scars and fresh wounds. This was something they both needed. They both needed to be loved and appreciated, almost too inexperienced to understand how to provide that for the other. That is just one of the results of being so tragically broken; but who says they’re incapable of love? Who says one who seems ‘unfeeling’ and the other a monster is incapable of love? They’d prove said statement wrong, not to the world, but to themselves.
They loved each other carefully, terrified to break the other under their feathery touches and hushed breath as they held onto each other liked their lives depended on it, too scared to let go for a moment. They relied on the other, breaths mingling until it was all they had left to hold onto, a rather odd semblance of grounding but it worked. It was horrid what they had, yes, but it was enough. Buried in the crook of his neck, the once dull blue eyes shined with tears as he held onto the other tightly, breathing ragged as their chests heaved for fresh air.
Pulling away, gulping down whatever oxygen his body could hold onto, he stilled his breaking heart for a moment to admire the other beneath him. His body lay open, inviting him to the fresh canvas that awaited him. He painted the skin with sweet kisses and hickies, not out of claim or to cause pain but to show love, appreciating every inch of skin given to him. Feeling him shiver under his faint touch, lithe fingers twisted his locks as they molded under each other’s touch like clay.
What was left was a mess — bodies heated and winded, gasping for air as the lay against one another. Tonight was for them. Even if their worlds wouldn’t allow it, they still had the welcoming embrace of bed sheets, a whole other world on its on, just for them. With heavy legs still wrapped around his waist, arms kissed by fire snaked around his neck as they sighed out, almost in unison while the warmth of their skin burned under delicate and brief touches.
“I love you.” Childe croaked, body shaking with broken sobs as tacky skin held him closely, burning palms rubbing at his bare shoulders as a gentle kiss was pressed to the crown of his head.
“I love you too.” For now, it was meant to be. Though it would end horrifically, they could hold onto this single moment with each other for just a bit longer. Long enough to find the love they so desperately longed for…and when the time comes, they would crumble and fall away at their own hands whether by blade or bare skin, they would soon find out, it was never meant to be.

Ajax: Is the sun setting?
Diluc: Mhmm…
Ajax: How long have I been out?
Diluc: Since this morning. You walked up to the doorstep and passed out. Adeline found you.
Ajax:…
Diluc: Will you tell me what happened?
Ajax: I…I’d rather not talk about it right now.
Diluc: Alright. Well I’m not going anywhere anytime soon so you have all the time in the world.
