This was a fun and informative collaboration with the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia @iscbc. My design features a child removing invasive plants allowing native species to thrive. It will be used as a part of ISCBC's education program in the form of stickers and signs posted in areas of stewardship work.
You can read more about it here: https://bcinvasives.ca/news/knowledge-sharing-and-storytelling-through-stickers/

Art vs Artist 2022. A selection of my work/opportunities for my existing work from this past year. I’m so proud of what I was able to accomplish, it was definitely the year of public art and my most successful year as a small business owner/artist. A lot of murals and art installations around the Fraser Valley as well as being flown to the unveiling of the mural I designed for New Orleans. I had my first solo exhibition and painted my largest work to date. I created a lot of designs for Indigenous-focused campaigns this year, partnering with many businesses. It is incredible to have the opportunity to use my artwork to make a difference. I feel very blessed to be able to make a living being creative and for all the opportunities that I’ve had. I am also thankful for the holidays as I’m currently on the butt end of art fatigue/burnout and I’ve pulled back a little bit from social media to keep my mental health in check. In transparency, it isn’t always sunshine and roses and I think it’s important to share that. I’m very excited about what the new year will bring. New murals and projects are being planned and I’m currently working on a personal piece that I’m very excited to share, it is a goal of mine to create more personal art in the coming year. In 2023 I will be relaunching my online shop so keep your eye out for that. I am so thankful to everyone who supports my work, from the companies I’ve been blessed to work with to the individuals who commission me or purchase my prints to those that like and share my work with others. It means the world. Happy New Year to ya’ll, see you next year!

Another series of paintings from this year (sorta).
I poured the colourful latex paint on these 12" x 12" canvases back in 2019 for a university project. This year I decided to add some of my Indigenous art on them to create one of a kind pieces featuring Raven, Frog and Otter. All are sold.

I'll Have a Sazerac with That, Acrylic on Panel, 24" x 36", 2023
This piece was inspired by my experience in New Orleans in the spring of 2022. I had the most incredible opportunity to design a mural for a levee in the French Quarter, which was then executed by Louisiana artist JoLean Barkley. The mural project was put together by the Consulate General of Canada, the Office of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, and the Arts Council of New Orleans. I was flown out to the Big Easy last year by Canadian Consulate for the unveiling of the mural. I saw gators in the swamp! In fact, it was the same bayou that inspired the artwork for Princess and the Frog which is one of my favourite Disney films. The alligator’s reflection is of Indigenous design, a call to the mural itself, all surrounded in the flora of a Louisiana swamp and framed in an oyster shell. I will never forget my first experience eating oysters (I haven't had a good once since) with my mother, Noella De Maina – Consul, Foreign Policy and Public Affairs and Consul General of Canada, Dr. Rachel McCormick who also was the one who suggested I paint something inspired by my experience and told me to try a Sazerac with that.

Some 4" x 4" paintings. The two on the left were a part of The Big Tiny exhibition at the @karitonartgallery and the two on the right I brought with me to the @newwestcraft Indigenous Market. All are sold! But I still have a few of these tiny canvases lying around for future use!

I'm a little behind in posting this, but in June I finished up a second mural at John MacLure Community School.
I decided to illustrate he salmon life cycle in almost a story book or colouring page theme. The mural is located in a large "nook" in the hallway at the main entrance featuring two spawning sockeye. Trailing behind behind the mural is additional flowing imagery of salmon eggs, fry, and alevin. It was a challenge taking a full photo of the space due to limitations of the hallway space and lighting. You can also see the Thunderbird mural I created last year out the window.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!
Repost @heu_in_bc (on insta)
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to honour, celebrate and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples. The demand for massive systemic change and real progress on Truth and Reconciliation must not be ignored. HEU proudly represents thousands of Indigenous health care workers across the province. On Sunday I had a booth at @aacd_events where we were blessed with some sunshine, stories, dancing, bannock and a plethora of amazing Indigenous vendors sharing their work. I've attending this event for years, but it was my first time as a vendor here sharing and selling my art. I had the opportunity to connect with old and new friends and find some time to do a little shopping of my own! Beaded Pompom earrings by @kung_creations

It was a busy weekend with markets on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I had a booth at the New West Craft Indigenous Market put together by @newwestcraft and @shopfirstnations! Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain that we truly needed, it was an incredible day. We were selling my work before we even finished setting up the booth! A big thank you to everyone who had a hand in organizing this event and giving Indigenous folks a place to to share their work, music, food, and stories. Truly looking forward to next year.

It has already been a year since the unveiling of the mural I designed titled "Connections", located in the French Quarter of New Orleans (you'll have to go back to read about it). It was a monumental moment in my life and career and I look back on it still blown away that I had that opportunity. On the same day I ate oysters for the first time and I haven't had a good oyster since. Before I left, Consul General of Canada, Dr. Rachel McCormick suggested that maybe one day I could create a piece inspired by my experience. I am about 90% done this painting (I've made it blurry on purpose to maintain some sort of wonder). This project has made me take a step back and realize how much I love to add intricate details to my work. Often by the time I get to do a passion project I'm just too burnt out. I haven't painted something this detailed in years and even then this has to be the most detailed piece of work that I've done. I set an arbitrary date, April 4th, to have it completed by, but I started stressing myself out for no reason other than I wanted to have it completed today, which is silly. Deadlines are great, but not everything needs to be rushed. So I decided to sit back and really see how much I could push myself to add those finer details and take more time to develop my work and I'm so pleased with how it is coming along. I cannot wait to share the final work when I'm ready to call it done. Sorry for the tease!

I designed the Indigenous logo for the new food program Rooted @simonfraseru. Thank you for working with me @sfufood_ , it was a pleasure to be a part of this project. You can read more about the program and logo design at the link in my bio.
Last week was the launch and I was able to join my sisters who attend SFU for lunch in the dining commons to try some of the dishes by Chef Steph Baryluk, they were delicious!
My sisters then invited me over to @sfu_isc where we worked on medicine bags and I felt very welcomed, thank you for having me.

Private commission to memorialize Acer the pet squirrel. I really enjoyed working on this piece and hearing all the cute stories about this little rescue. Prints will be available in the near future, DM or email if you're interested.
