“How are you going to sign and skate?” Teddy challenged him, watching as her boyfriend almost ate it just by stepping into the ice rink.
“I -” He stood up straight and immediately clenched as his feet wobbled beneath him, “I’ll be fine!”
“If you say so.”
The sorcerer was, in fact, not fine.
He did well for the first hour, but got a little too cocky towards the middle of the second hour, and that’s when his little mishap occurred.
Once in the comfort of Teddy’s home, she filled a ziploc bag with ice and brought it over to her wounded boyfriend who was slouched on the family room sofa.
“You still did a lot better than I thought you were going to do!” Teddy offered, pressing the makeshift ice pack to the back of his head.
The boy grimaced and his reflexes made him shove her hand away, only for him to huff and reach out for it again.
“You might need to take some painkillers. I’m not really sure if icing it will honestly help.”
“It’s helping.”
“I’m glad.”
“Also, for your information, we’re never ice skating again.”
“What!?” Teddy griped, “Toge! I had so much fun though! What else are we supposed to do in the winter time!? Rot away inside!?”
“It saves money! And I don’t freeze to death! I’ve probably lost so many brain cells because of that fall.”
“As if you haven’t been hit in the head before?”
“Not like that!” Toge signed aggressively, shooting her daggers.
“But I had fun.” Teddy pouted, shoving her bottom lip forward and crossing her arms in front of her body before she sat down beside him with a ‘hmph’.
“You care more about having fun than the fact that I injured myself.”
“Because it was my first time going! It’s not like my parents would ever let me go! All these years and I finally ice skated for the first time and you had to go and get hurt.”
“Are you blaming me!?”
“Not blaming, just… making a statement.” She grumbled, side eyeing him.

“You know,” Shinobu said softly, beckoning the tilt of Giyuu’s head so he could face her and not the cat, “I’m feeling a bit famished. I don’t think I’ve actually eaten a proper meal today.”
“Hmm. Well that’s no good. It seems as though we’ll need to fix that.”
“Or I could just starve?”
“Dramatic,” Giyuu tutted, “First you deprive yourself of sunlight and now you’re depriving yourself of nourishment? I think you need your head checked.”
“I have accidentally hit it multiple times while training and possibly on the job… though I have a hard time remembering.”
“Are you being serious or just trying to gain my pity?”
Shinobu chortled before bumping her elbow to his,
“Like you’d ever pity me.”
“You’re right. I couldn’t.”
“I’m just too perfect.”
Now Giyuu snorted again, earning a boisterous laugh from the girl beside him,
“Sure you are. Sure.”
There was a small lapse of silence after Shinobu caught her breath before she nudged his elbow again, asking a polite, “Would you like to accompany me to my first meal of the day?”
“I’d be delighted.” Giyuu murmured, disrupting the cat’s leisure time with an apologetic look on his face and then helping Shinobu to her feet.
“I’m unsure what’s in the kitchen today.”
“That’s alright. We’ll find out together.”
The insect pillar did her best to contain her adoration for the boy in front of her, but she couldn’t help it when her expression was more wistful than planned.
“Yes.” She ascertained, the corners of her mouth upturning slowly.
Together, he said. We’ll find out together.

“I’m playing Bakubabe’s wallet today.” Camie laughed, receiving an eye roll from said boy.
“Wow, didn’t know you needed a sugar mama Bakugou.” Kyouka teased.
“She’s the one who bribed me!”
“Into being a sugar baby?” Denki asked, clearly puzzled by the conversation.
“What!? No! She bribed me to come here!”
“I offered to pay for everything, is what he means.”
“Well he better pay you back in sexual favors.” Mina said a little too loudly, making TodoMomo in the back and Kamijirou in the front burst into laughter like a group of hyenas.
“I’m celibate, thank you very much. I’d appreciate it if you would all respect my decision!” Camie argued, making Bakugou laugh as he made his way over to her.
“Quit fucking lying to yourself.” He tsked, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her closer to the tako stand as he heard her name being called.
The group whistled and howled at the display of affection and Bakugou flipped them all off. Camie, on the other hand, was too hungry to even notice.
“Ah I’m gonna go crazy! I’m so excited for this!” She shrieked, Mina not too far away from letting out the same amount of excitement as she was receiving her takoyaki at the pick-up stall.
“I’ll keep in mind that Mina and Camie like balls in their mouth.” Denki nodded, as if he truly was making a mental note.
Todoroki choked on the water he was sipping, and Kirishima face palmed as he was beginning to put his wallet away. The rest of the group had to stop themselves from causing a scene with their loud laughter.
While the two dancers enjoyed their first snack of the night, the remaining couples walked to other stalls in search of something of their own. TodoMomo ended up grabbing something sweet and refreshing to drink, KamiJirou decided on starting the night early and purchasing a beer and mixed drink and KiriBaku found a trinket shop to occupy their time. As soon as Camie scarfed down her tako, she had become interested in a cotton candy shop nearby and dragged Jirou with her. (There was no protesting from the bartender regardless).
“What if we get the big one?” Camie gasped, her forehead practically shoved up against the glass window peering into the candy store, “Do you want to get the big one?”
“Am I going to be the only one helping you eat this?”
“Well, no. It’s for the group.”
“Do you mean the ‘big one’ as in, the five-layer cotton candy? Or the sevenlayer?”
“Seven.” Camie whispered like a child who didn’t know how to whisper, which sounded more so like a hiss than anything else.
“I mean, it’s only twelve hundred yen, I don’t see the problem.” Denki suddenly chimed in. His girlfriend jumped, immediately swatting at his arm for scaring her and earning a dramatic wail.
“Denks, are you going to help me eat it?” Camie questioned him, eyes still glued on the cotton candy machine inside.
“I thought you’d never ask.” The yellow-haired boy snickered.
Two minutes later, the trio found their group and presented the candy floss, earning a few ‘ooh’s and a couple ‘oh’s and one particular ‘jesus christ’ followed by a facepalm.
“I swear to god if you’re bouncing off the walls in fifteen minutes, I’m leaving.” Katsuki threatened Camie.

“Why did you ask about me being scared earlier?” Toge signed to rid his mind of unpleasant thoughts, “Are you that worried about me?”
Though Toge hadn’t really said anything to make it seem like he was giving her attitude, Teddy was surely able to read it on his expression. It was the way one of his eyebrows quirked upwards in amusement and the fact that she noticed the upturning of the corner of his mouth, a ghost of an arrogant smirk present on his face.
Teddy’s jaw dropped and she let out a dramatic scoff, eyes wide at him like he had just said the most offensive thing in the world.
“I mean, should I not care!?”
“I’m in good hands, Teds. You know I’ll always be okay.” Her boyfriend chuckled, sticking his tongue out at her.
“Well you’re the light of my life; I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to you and I was simply curious because I care! I can be like, your makeshift therapist! You can come to me about your worries and stresses! That’s sort of the point I was trying to make, I guess. I don’t know. I’m rambling.” Teddy sputtered with laughter and hid her face with her hands, embarrassment flooding her system.
“Teddy,” He called to her, trying to get her to move her hands. She moved her fingers to the side to peek at him and the boy giggled under his breath, “Thank you. For caring.”
“You know I always will.”
“Enough about me, what’s been going on with you? How are your studies?”
“Oh same old, same old,” Teddy sighed dramatically, moving her phone so that he could get a look at her desk packed with study material and textbooks, “I’ve been studying nonstop.”
“Ah, I was wondering why your head looked bigger.”
His girlfriend shrieked, “Where the heck is all this sass coming from?! After I was being so sentimental too!”
“Can’t help it.” Toge shrugged as if it was something she should have known all along, tilting his head at the same time his shoulders rose.
“Well thanks for not caring about my feelings.”
“Whoa. That’s dramatic. I just asked how you’ve been.”
“Do you really think my head’s gotten bigger?” Teddy pouted, brushing one hand through her hair in a defeated manner.
Toge rolled his eyes at her,
“I was kidding.”

“The next thing I’d like to discuss is your debut, Ami.”
“My… debut?”
“If you’re certain about being with us, it’s about time you make it official. The heroes need to know your decision and I’m going to get serious about your involvement with the League. I need you on missions. I need your strength. You can’t be afraid to show face anymore.”
“I - Well, yeah. Okay, yeah. I’ll do it…”
“Easy enough?”
“Next mission I can just go all out then…”
“Don’t hold back.”
“Didn’t really need your permission, but fine. Sounds good, boss man.” I smiled, making Shiggy roll his eyes, but I could see the faintest grin on his face.
“Next month there’s a mission we’re all needed on. Training starts again for you and Dabi, I don’t care how you do it, but you must be your strongest. I trust the both of you can do that much, right?”
“Who says I haven’t already been training her?” Dabi scoffed, and I could feel my blood turning cold. Oh god, please don’t make this inappropriate.
“You better not elaborate on that.” Byakuya muttered under his breath.
“I’m ignoring you from now on,” Shiggy huffed, not even glancing at the boy sat beside me, “We’re infiltrating Tartarus. There are a few villains we will be letting loose to join our side. We’ve already discussed with them when and where it’ll happen. It’s something we’ve been planning since you were away, Ami.”
“Yeah, with the help of those green-haired twins, the media has been focused on all sorts of shit rather than the League.”
“Jigoku really came in clutch, huh?” I breathed out dreamily, wondering if I’ll ever come across the entire group.
“Was far from a cheap transaction though.” Spinner grumbled.
“I handled it; no need to bring it up again.” Dabi snarled.
Huh… Right, we never discussed what exactly happened for Jigoku to come to our aid. But since it seems like a sensitive topic, I’ll ignore the tension in the air.
“Next time, don’t get the entire League involved. It’s not like you even approached us for help. All you do is cause problems for the boss.”
“Can it, Spinner. I was desperate.”
“Desperate to make such a bold statement of yourself? Tell me something I don't know.”
“Both of you,” Shigaraki stepped in, his teeth grit together, “Settle down and stop trying to piss me off.”
Two grumbled ‘sorry’s floated in the air, and I leaned over to rub my palm on top of Dabi’s knee, an attempt at consoling him and taking his mind off the previous altercation. The villain turned his head slightly and sent me a small smile before placing his hand on mine and giving it a squeeze.

The water hashira shrugged and continued to keep eating, eliciting a whine from the girl beside him as she tried grabbing the dessert.
“If it’s too sweet, why do you keep eating it!?”
“I like seeing you squirm and pout.” Giyuu chortled after finally handing over her skewers.
“You’re a sadist, that’s what you are.”
“Okay, that might be taking it a little too far, doc.”
“Sadist!” Shinobu exclaimed, pouting as she held her sweets far away from him and bit into it. A satisfied sigh was let out through her nose, and Giyuu just watched as her pout turned into a dreamy smile.
“Not too sweet for you, I’m assuming.”
“Oh it’s wonderful! I can’t believe how much I love white bean paste!”
“I can’t believe how little you actually eat.” Giyuu shot back, earning a playful shove.
“I can’t help myself around all these goodies!”
“Okay, well I need something savory to balance out my pallet now. Maybe I’ll just go back to that sukiyaki vendor.”
“Ugh god, so plain and simple. Boring, Giyuu. How typical of you.” Shinobu rolled her eyes, making sure he saw before she nudged him again.
“I like to eat real food when I attend festivals. Thank you very much.”
“Expand your taste buds! Go eat something different for once.”
“Fine… Takoyaki?” He suggested, eyebrows raised to his hairline to see if she’d bite.
“Oh… Actually, I’d like that too.”
“Wow. I’ve gained a little bit of respect back for you.”
“You’re dramatic.”
“Says the girl who was spouting the weirdest claims earlier. What was it again? I bribed you here?”
Shinobu waved him off as she finished her first skewer,
“That was the sugar talking.”

“I - I just… I wanted to - to hold your hand… That’s… That’s all.” Tamaki uttered, gripping his pants legs in his lap and staring at his hands. His hair cascaded over the side of his face so I couldn’t see his expression, but I could still see his pink ears.
My chest warmed at his statement. I was truly dating the purest, sweetest human being on the entire planet.
“And you totally did. You totally did!” I smiled, wrapping my arms around him and squishing him into my side.
“Yeah… not how I wanted to though.”
“But we’ve done it plenty of times, so I mean… you’ve had to have done it the way you wanted by now?”
“I guess… I just wanted the first time to be a good one, that’s all… and initiated by me.”
“You’re fine. It still made my heart explode.”
“I’m just not as bold as you.” He whispered, and I rubbed his back in a sympathetic way.
“You don’t have to be. I love you the way you are, always have!”
“God you two are way too cute. I’m so envious.” Nejire whined, but her eyes were filled with genuine adoration.
“Everyone finds somebody for them eventually. I honestly didn’t even think I’d be dating at this age. I like, really thought I wasn’t into people in general.”
“Like you didn’t find anyone attractive?” Mirio inquired, his head tilted a bit.
“Something like that… I just found no interest in dating and feelings and all that complex human stuff.”
“Well, you’re amazing at those c-complex… human stuff.” Tama muttered, his head still bowed and his grip tightening on his pants.
“You think so?”
“Yes!” He now turned his head, eyes wide with disbelief as if he couldn’t believe I doubted myself, “You’re an incredible girlfriend! I can’t imagine being with anyone else!”
My heart throbbed in my chest, and I stared at him. That was probably the closest to a love confession I had ever really gotten from Amajiki. The words died in my throat as I gently placed a hand on his jaw, cupping it in a timid way.
I watched as he melted into the touch, a thousand different emotions shining brightly in his dark-colored irises.
“I… lo -“
“Are you all finished with your meals?” The waiter came by, startling everybody at the table and earning a small glare from Hadou. I quickly retreated my hand and Mirio cleared his throat before responding.

“How’s the communication coming along with your classmates?”
Toge let out a small sigh and shrugged,
“It could be better. I'm doing my best to make it easier on them but I’m still trying to get this new language down. I feel like an idiot every time I have to whip out my phone and type out a message just to reply to their questions.”
“It’ll get easier with time. It’s only been a few months.”
“Sometimes it just feels like I shouldn’t even be partaking in conversations with literally anyone. It’s a huge hassle.”
“Oh, I’m sure. But you gotta be patient, Toge. It’s like learning sign all over again.”
“And it feels like so much work!” He signed aggressively, eyes wide in exasperation. Teddy couldn’t help but giggle at his distress.
“Run it by me again. Your secret little language. Quiz me!”
“I can’t quiz you if I can’t even remember the answers, silly.”
Teddy burst into laughter and nodded,
“Okay, right, right. So - uh, I’ll just ask?? Like I’ll ask for each ingredient?”
“Sure. That’ll work.”
“So we’ve completely agreed that ‘sake’ is similar to ‘yes’, and ‘okaka’ is ‘no’.”
Toge nodded on the call.
“Um… You say ‘konbu’ as a hello… or greeting…”
“And I’ll just wave to say ‘bye’ I guess. Maybe throw up a peace sign… or something.”
“Mm… yeah that’s pretty universal.”
“I’m struggling with curse words.”
“‘Curse’ words? Like for your speech or like, cussing?” Teddy tried holding back her laughter and keeping a straight face, but it immediately failed, making her boyfriend shake his head and frown.
“Cussing.”

“Oh, Shinobu,” Giyuu’s feet came to a stop so she could catch up, “I didn’t know you were going to be called here as well. I would’ve waited for you.”
Said girl smiled softly, now walking up to him and patting his shoulder,
“Oyakata-sama asked me if I’d like to join you after you had left. There was no way for you to have known.”
Giyuu’s eyes brightened at the thought of her accepting a mission with him after all these weeks, if not well past a month now. A warmth suddenly enshrouded him like a blanket in the winter, comforting him in ways he wasn’t aware of.
“He’s been so kind to me this past month. I never expected him to understand without actually getting a word out of me.”
“He never asked why you wanted a break from our partnership?” Giyuu’s head tilted like a curious cat.
“No. He really understands all of us better than we know. I’ll be truly saddened if he passes before all of this is over.”
The last bit had been mumbled so quietly that Giyuu almost didn’t catch it. He glanced at his feet and fell deep into thought until he looked back up at the butterfly pillar and she gave him a gentle smile.
A soft, I’ll be sad if you pass before all of this is over, too, crossed his mind, but the words died at his throat.
The dark-haired boy hummed a reply instead, nodding before he turned to lead the way toward the town being terrorized by another demon.

Shinobu almost froze in place she was dumbfounded by the sudden question of her love life.
“I - uh… It’s…” Mitsuri nodded in encouragement as the words left the butterfly hashira; her thoughts seemingly stopped.
“It is Intense. A tad unfulfilling… but I have no regrets.”
“Unfulfilling?” Mitsuri echoed, a hint of sadness to her tone.
“Just… in the grand scheme of things. I suppose I yearn for something else… something different. I’m sure we all do.”
“Ah. I see.”
“And you? Any progress with finding the love you’ve been searching for?”
Mitsuri hummed, a soft expression making its way onto her face as she stared down at her lap this time.
“No progress… just… observations.”
“And when might you tell me this lucky gentleman’s name?”
“Oh, probably never.” The love pillar admitted, falling into a fit of giggles as she looked up and caught a look of betrayal in Shinobu’s eyes.
“Perhaps it’s better that way. I think sometimes I wish I kept my mouth shut too.”
“It’s different in your case because Giyuu-san sought after you first. I have yet to be approached.”
“Any guy would be lucky to have you.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that.” Mitsuri giggled.
“Do you believe your heart is protected properly?”
“From whom?”
“Disappointment.” Shinobu uttered, her fingers fumbling in her lap.
“You feel disappointed in yourself because of the feelings you have for Giyuu-san?” Mitsuri reiterated, her head slightly tilted as she tried to make sense of it all.

“I’ll get stronger.” Toge insisted, his hands still swiping at his tears in an effort to get them to stop.
“Toge -“
“I’ll work as hard as I can! I promise! No, I swear! I’m going to be there for Teddy, one hundred percent. I’ll protect her till my death!”
“Toge -“
“P-Please don’t take her from me.” He begged, tears pouring over once more. His knees felt like they’d give out on him, and his head spun with absolute misery it was giving him a headache. He felt like his life was ending–even though he was still so young it felt like the end of it all. At his age, impending doom seemed like the smallest of things compared to his parents. Losing Teddy was the end all be all because what else did he have after her?
“Toge, it’s for the best.” Teddy murmured, looking down at her hands as she played with the hem of her shirt. She couldn’t dare look at him—she’d be a mess if she looked at him, seeing him so broken down and desperate.
“She’s all I have.”
“Son, don’t be ridiculous -“
“You don’t understand! She's all I have!” Toge bellowed, his hands in his hair as he became hysteric, “I have no friends! I don’t have anyone else but Teddy! She's all that I have, and you want to take her from me! Nobody at school even glanced at me or tried being my friend. They thought I was weird and a - a mute!
“They bullied me just for being who I am! They bullied me for not talking much! They bullied me because of the marks on my face! The marks that I never asked for! Teddy is the only person I would ever give my life for, and you can’t take that away from me! She accepted me for who I am, and she has always been there!
“Sh-She’s the only person that can talk to me. She’s the only person that I can talk to... Please rethink this. I’m begging you. I’m literally begging you. Mom, Dad—Please, don’t do this to us. I -”
“Toge, it’s already been done.” His father said sternly, but he couldn’t stop the pang in his chest as he watched his only child crumple before him. It was rare for his parents to see Toge cry; even more so, it was rare to see him acting on something so strongly.
Since his father was the person Toge inherited his cursed speech from, it didn’t have as strong of an effect compared to his mother or Teddy. However, Inumaki-san felt the power behind his son’s words–all of it making his blood run cold, and his jaw tighten. There was this looming feeling present in the room and he had to take in breath after breath to calm himself down and dissipate the tension in the air.
Inumaki-san didn’t mind taking the toll of Toge’s words, as long as it wasn’t targeting Teddy or his wife. If he had to fight his son tonight to protect the two girls in the house, so be it.
“I’m not going to give us up. I refuse.” Toge uttered.

Eijirou’s face twisted, clearly not following,
“What do you mean?”
“Dating Bakubro. I’m pretty sure we’ve all thought about it.”
“Even you?”
“Oh hell yeah. I never thought Kyouka would actually be into me.”
“I really thought she’d be with Yaomomo.”
“Right?! That’s what everyone says! I literally had almost an hour-long debate with Hagakure about it like two weeks before I asked Kyo out.”
“What?! How come I didn’t know about this?”
“I was mortified. I didn’t tell anyone. I like, practically cried in her arms.”
“Bro…”
“Mina said the moon was in Gatorade or something, so it’s okay. I felt better afterwards anyways.”
“Gatorade…?”
“Yeah, something like that.” Denki nodded, confident in his answer.
“That’s a drink dude.”
“Ask Mina then!”
“I think you mean ‘retrograde’.”
“Well, whatever!” The two boys fell into a fit of laughter and Denki almost toppled over, making Kiri laugh even harder.
“I’m telling Bakugou you had a crush on him.” The red-haired student said once he had regained his breathing.
“I still do.” Denki responded coolly.
Kirishima burst into laughter yet again at Kami wiggling his eyebrows and Sero opened the door to his and Mina’s shared room, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Hey dude.” Kiri greeted him, still knelt by Kaminari’s side and rubbing his back.
“What are you two up to so early?”
“We’re trying to find our girlfriends.”
“On the ground?” Hanta quirked an eyebrow and then paused, “Did you just call Bakugou Ei’s girlfriend?”
“And he’ll never believe you.” Denki snickered.

“What I do know is that our demon blood is very territorial. Whether it’s family, food, property--you name it.”
“Territorial…” Natsuo mused, glancing back and forth between the bard and his younger brother.
“It’s funny that you say that, Touya,” Fuyumi said quietly, as if she were remembering something, “When we came to Shouto and Momo’s rescue, he was protecting her…. Even though he was wounded, and it was me and Natsuo that was trying to help them… He didn’t want us to touch her.”
Shouto felt his entire body heat up.
“Interesting…” Momo’s father grumbled, squinting at the demon prince, “Go on…”
Shouto wished the world would swallow him whole.
“So he’s protective of a pretty girl. Take that as you wish.” Touya snickered, earning a small, pleading glance from Shouto.
“Well we grew up together, so I guess I understand where he’s coming from.” Momo chirped, oblivious as ever.
“Oh, Mo-chan, don’t play dense.” Natsuo face-palmed.
“What…?”
“I’ve learned so much about you in such little time,” Touya stated, walking around her as she sat in the wheelchair, “I think my dear brother is in lo -“
“Momo aren’t you tired?” Shouto shot to his feet and nudged his sister out of the way, grabbing hold of the handles for the wheelchair and whisking her back into the house.
“Behave, you two!” The bard’s father called after them, but didn’t budge from his spot by the bonfire.
A chorus of laughter was heard from the yard and Shouto clicked the back door shut, letting out a small breath as he did his best to calm himself down. It felt like his demon blood was about to take over, and he couldn’t quite pin why.
Was he feeling attacked? Sure, but in an innocent way… so why was it irritated?
“Shouto…?” Momo didn’t even bother to glance over her shoulder; she was feeling just the same.
“Um… Momo, look,” The prince kneeled before her and sighed, “I don’t fully understand exactly what they mean,” Her face faltered, “I mean I do! I do… I’m just still learning and I wasn’t expecting the introduction to go that direction. I - I just -“
“Do you feel territorial over me, Shouto?”
The prince nodded without a second thought.
“Do you think somebody else could possibly take me from you?”
His blood felt like it began to sting. The mere thought made his stomach uneasy.
Sheesh, he was in deep–deeper than he realized. Of course he cared about her and he was protective of her. Especially with what they had just experienced together, there was no way he wouldn’t feel a certain type of emotion for her.
“Even if the answer to that question is ‘yes’, I can assure you I wouldn’t dream of leaving your side.”
“You’ve been stuck with my family since we were children… how could you know for certain that you wish to stay by my side -
“Forever,” She cut him off. Shouto’s eyes brightened and even in the dimly lit hallway, Momo was able to see a small blush appear on his cheeks, “I’m going to stay, Shouto.”

“It’s my fault, isn’t it?” He murmured, watching as her shoulders fell and she became less defensive, “I should have never asked you out.”
“I can’t stand this.” Shinobu took in a shuddered breath and willed herself not to put her head in her hands. She knew if she caved in on her emotions it would only make matters worse and she was already feeling so terrible, she didn’t want that to intensify.
“What is it, Shinobu?”
“The way I feel… I can’t stand any of it.”
“About… us?”
“Do you regret it?”
He stepped towards her and almost reached for her hand, stopping himself halfway,
“Never. I didn’t say that.”
“But it’s troubling you just as much as me.”
“N-No, again, that’s not what I sai -“
“I don’t think we were meant to fall for each other, Giyuu.”
There was silence, and Shinobu held her breath, begging herself to not break down in front of him. Truthfully, she hadn’t been eating or sleeping well and maybe that was why she was easily irritated. Her conversations with other people were much shorter and quieter than usual, it wasn’t just Giyuu, but he didn’t know any better.
Ever since Giyuu’s accident she wasn’t able to focus on anything other than the horrors of a life without him. She had nightmares about it—cruel and unusual nightmares about the water hashira that has honestly done nothing wrong. She knew he did nothing wrong. He was doing his job, just like her, but she witnessed something her heart wasn’t able to bear.
It was as if spending time getting to know him made her heart believe that they could be together forever, safely. For some odd reason these delusions were swimming in her mind, inviting themselves without warning and giving the butterfly hashira false hope. Every moment was an internal battle of what was right and what was possible.
She didn’t know either of those things.
All she knew was that she didn’t deserve him. All this time she knew it, but now it was like the elephant in the room, and she couldn’t get it to leave.
She was in love with him, and she knew he reciprocated those feelings, but it wasn’t satisfying—it wasn’t happy or anything to rejoice over now that the reality of their time together had shown itself when he jumped in front of her. She knew what it was like to lose something precious. She knew what it was like to have somebody she loved taken away from her.
She couldn’t convince herself that it would be worth it in the end.
What use were their feelings if they were always on the frontlines, risking their lives for the safety of others?
What use were their feelings if they did not have a lifetime to live together?
What use were their feelings…?
Shinobu was a rational person, who knew how to make rational decisions… but ever since getting to know Giyuu, it had been nothing but feelings and emotions. Dread turned to confusion, then confusion to acceptance… After acceptance it was peace, and then… love.
Why did she let that happen?

“What are you doing out of bed? You’re supposed to be in recovery.” Shinobu hissed, her eyebrows furrowed.
The water hashira shrugged and limped a little further into her study, shutting the door behind him.
“They said I could walk around, it’s fine.”
“You literally had a concussion; no, it is not fine.”
“I wanted to make sure that you’re okay.”
“Don’t you dare patronize me,” She barked, not even moving an inch closer to check on his injuries, “We work the same damn job Giyuu, why wouldn’t I be okay?”
This definitely wasn’t the welcoming he was expecting to get. Clearly, he was okay as well, he was just scratched up a bit here and there. Why wasn’t she relieved?
“I mean, seriously Giyuu.” Said boy raised his gaze to hers, not even realizing that he was staring at her desk, and when they finally made eye contact again, he almost flinched as if he were staring at a really, really scary monster.
“How could you be so - so - so!” Shinobu was lost for words, her fury emulating from every fiber within her, but Giyuu stood his ground. He simply stared, waiting for her to finish her yelling—her scolding—so that he could have his turn to talk.
The insect hashira let out a strangled growl and folded her arms as she stomped her foot,
“So reckless!”
Reckless? What an interesting word to use.

“Kocho-san.” The butterfly pillar turned her head toward the entrance of her study, spotting Tanjirou standing awkwardly by the door.
“Come in.”
He did so, walking just off to the side of her desk, his hands in front of him, fumbling with his fingers and seemingly jittery.
“What’s gotten into you?” She laughed at the sight, her brow furrowing as she continued to watch him.
“Um… I had… I was wondering something.”
“And what ever might that be?”
Tanjirou took in a deep breath and scooted a little bit closer to her, glancing at the entrance to her study as if someone was watching them, but then sliding his gaze back to her. (Indeed, there was somebody at the door, and their initials were ‘K.M.’)
“I’ve been… curious, and so have the other - um, girls…” Tanjirou cleared his throat, nibbling on his bottom lip.
Shinobu blinked a couple times.
Oh?
“Are you and Giyuu-san okay?” Tanjirou squeaked, almost as if his voice got stuck in the middle of his throat.
Shinobu almost began to laugh,
“Why is that a concern to you?”
“Ah… well it didn’t start as mine. I just sort of, contracted it… for lack of a better word?”
“And whom might you have ‘contracted’ said concern from?” Shinobu teased, using air quotes as she spoke.
“W-Well, nobody!” Tanjirou shrieked, “I’m just… curious, like I said!”
“Have you discussed this with Giyuu-san?”
“Yes, Kocho-san…” Hm.
Said girl pursed her lips and hummed to herself, debating whether or not she should say anything more. But wait… what could Giyuu possibly let slip that now someone as innocent as Tanjirou would be poking his nose around?
“And what did my fellow hashira say?”
“He… told me to ask you.”
“Clever.” Shinobu muttered under her breath.
“Come again?”
“Oh, nothing.” She waved him off and gave him a small smile, her eyes crinkling at the corners.
“So, is it safe to assume you two are okay?”
“We’re fine.”
“Um… okay…”
“Are there other questions? Concerns...? Curiosities?” Shinobu lifted her eyebrows and Tanjirou’s face reddened as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“I just wanted to make sure everything was okay.”
“Things are pleasant. We’re fine.”
“Is you say so, Kocho-san. Thank you for your time!” The young demon slayer scurried off into the hall, his rushed footsteps echoing off the walls.
“Oh Giyuu… what have you said?” The insect pillar made a mental note to speak to him later that night if they were to cross paths.
Kanroji stopped Tanjirou in his tracks just as he was about to turn the corner, scaring the slayer half to death.
“And the verdict?!”
“Kanroji-sa -”
The love pillar slapped a hand over Tanjirou’s mouth and pulled him towards the kitchen where the rest of the butterfly girls were. Kanao looked suspiciously at the event happening before her eyes and Aoi knitted her eyebrows together while peeling a potato.
“He talked to Shinobu-chan!” Kanroji announced, finally letting go of the maroon-haired boy.
He gasped for air and then rested his hands on his knees,
“She said - ah, they’re fine.”
“They’re fine?!” The love pillar echoed, face palming.
“Pleasant. Things are pleasant, she said.”
“Huh… I guess that’s better.”
