So, I decided it's time to upload my comic Prophecy (actually, I just forgot I could/should). I'm going to post it here and on AO3, where a German version will also be available. Since there a few chapters to go, I'll most likely upload a few pages once a week.

I've been working on this comic since 2013, and be warned, I probably won't finish it. I did a lot in the first few years, but somewhere along the way I lost my drive. I'm currently thinking about writing the story down, which might eventually bring it to an end. So if you like what you see, feel free to subscribe at AO3 or check back here from time to time.

SUMMARY:

A prophecy of the holy goddess says that people with red hair will bring the end of the world. And so all newborns with red hair are killed. But then the time comes when fate, or perhaps coincidence, brings a man face to face with a red-haired boy who survived. And suddenly this man decides to bring light into the dark prophecy about the end of the world. And into the boy's story.

So I bought this new rug for my office. After having my afternoon coffee and looking at it, the inspiration hit me. So this is Obi Wan on his landing on camino.

I didn't think Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth was that good.

And by that, I mean, the story was good. The music was good. The growth and more in depth characterization was good. The expansion on some lore was good.

But the 80+ hours of side quests? Of soulless exploration? Of endless info-bombing from Chadley and Mai? Was awful.

Obviously, all that is optional, but you miss out on a whole lot by not doing it. And it's a pain. Its unfair. The game is almost entirely side content, at least that's how it feels. The story itself could probably bit into about 20-25 hours, if that. The side content is what causes it to become an 80+ hour game.

I also feel like there needed to be someone or a group of someone's over-seeing the story and the tonal shifts.

We go from an incredible, heart breaking scene between Dyne and Barret and whiplash to a stupid, "comical" fight with Palmer. We go from the date scene, to the Corneo Cap part 2. The way the tone shifts so suddenly is enough to break a person's neck.

I know FFVII is known for its mini games, and I suppose the sense of nostalgia causes fans to misremember how annoying some of them were. However, there was no reason to go in so hard on the mini games in Rebirth. There was no reason to go in so gung-ho to make the whole experience feel like a punishment, only to be rewarded with 5 minutes of story at the end of size hours of side content.

I love the characters. I love the changes they made and the depth given to the characters. I actually quite like the multiverse story bit. What I don't like is the whole lead up in Remake being like "oh if you go through Destiny's Crossroads you'll be changing everything" only for it to mean absolute shit.

I know the next installment is due in 2028, but I desperately hope that it is better than Rebirth. That is takes notes from Remake, where there were hardly any mini games, and everything had a purpose and a reason. And I know its easier to do that in Remake because Remake was set in a city, and Rebirth is in the world map as a whole, but my point still stands. They could make exploration more interesting and rewarding, without it being painful. They didn't need to give every single chocobo a mini game to tame it, or a mini game to learn how to ride it (seriously, fuck that gliding chocobo mini game).

I just. I am disappointed by it.

Fun fact, for a reason i don't know the french version of ff8 love to casually break the fourth wall in some occasions. Does not happens a lot but it sure happens For exemple : When Squall and co meet the resistance in Timber, Zone asks him to "wake up the sleeping princess" (the princess being Linoa). Squall is a little annoyed and says :

"C'est un jeu vidéo, pas un conte de fée, Mr Hibou!" Meaning "This is a video game, not a fairytale, mister owl!" (i think that in the english version he says something like "we're not here to play around!")

Second exemple, in one of the few Laguna flashback he is fleeing Estharian soldiers with Kiros and Ward. They all end up injuried, and Ward lost his voice due to an injury (i think?). In the french version.... Laguna says something about how is grandma always said that bad things happen if you talk about them (because Kiros and Ward are a little desesperate). Ward's answer in return?

"Je ne prononcerai plus un mot jusqu'à la fin du jeu." Meaning "I won't say one more word until the end of the game" (In the english version i think he tries to insult Laguna one last time)
