Hello everyone! As much as I hate to e-beg online, I need help in funding for my RFF phalloplasty with Dr. Mang Chen on 09/04/24. Long story short, I need at least 6 months of laser hair removal on my right forearm to prepare the area for surgery. I've already had my first 2 sessions, and while I'm grateful for that, I definitely need more assistance! I'm living paycheck-by-paycheck, but I'm so close to obtaining my goal for phalloplasty. Any help is appreciated, even just sharing this fundraiser helps.

I've been meaning to update this blog for awhile, so I'll keep posting here regarding my phalloplasty. Life has been very difficult lately but I think I'm finally on the upside of fighting mental health battles. I get overwhelmed a lot, but I'm hopeful for the future 🦄

Life isn't easy for anyone, but it can be especially rough for folx like us.

Even if you feel so depressed you can barely just get by the day, don't ever forget that by simply sticking around, your presence makes the world a better place.

If it is true that 'The unexamined life is not worth living', then we have nothing to lose by not giving up. By simply being trans and practicing the self-love that comes from acknowledging our identities, there is absolutely no way we can sleepwalk through life like so many unthinking people do.

Body Contouring with Kaiser Next Week

So next week, I'll be getting masculinizing body contouring with Dr. Keith Follmar. I'm still in shock that I'm finally being able to get it done.

Long story short, I've been fighting the Kaiser system for 3 years to get this procedure approved. It took a lot of back-and-worth of filing grievances, only to get appointments with Kaiser's top surgeons that would result in medical gatekeeping (thank you, Dr. Ali Salim and Rod Simmons). Last summer I filed a complaint with CA's Department of Managed Healthcare and finally, they are forcing them to stop denying me the coverage that I so desperately need.

I met Dr. Follmar yesterday. He was understanding, professional and respectful. I'm not even sure if he's even worked with trans patients before but he apparently has experience with treating cis men who have hormonal problems. I shown him the areas on my body that were giving me grief, and he saw exactly what I was talking about. It was affirming as hell and I was relieved to say the least.

The trans community does not talk about this much but the truth of the matter is that for some folks, years of HRT testosterone will not re-distribute all of the 'feminized' body fat. I know quite a few others who are also affected by this unfortunate situation. A couple transmasc folks I know had to fight tooth-nail to get it covered. One even had to travel outside the country to get it done 🤦

Ever since this procedure was approved, I had a diversity officer and a couple other transguys contact me. The diversity officer ensured me that this will never happen in the Kaiser North system ever again. I honestly have my doubts.

Nothing is more infuriating than seeing a hospital fly trans pride flags during Pride month, only to gatekeep the population they claim to support from obtaining the procedures they desperately need. I hope Kaiser learned their lesson start to actually listen to what we have to say, and what we need.

Hi, my name is K and I’m writing this to start documenting my gender transition. I’m a 35-year old, bi-racial (asian/white), FtM transman who started my gender transition in 2015. There’s been difficulties and struggles to get where I am today but I hope by documenting transition and thoughts moving forward, I can help others who’ve been struggling to evolve into the person they were meant to be. I also sometimes need a place to rant into the void. It can be lonely journey, sometimes.

I started taking T in December 2014. I had both top surgery (double mascectomy) with Dr. Karen Yokoo and hysterectomy with Dr. Erica Weiss in the spring of 2017. I live in San Francisco and currently have insurance with Kaiser, though I have plans to move onto another insurance later this year. I have plans to obtain Phalloplasty in the next couple years. I’m an extremely dysphoric guy and aim to transform myself into the person I’m meant to be, maybe start cruising gay bars in SF soon :3

My appearance is somewhat androgynous/femme FtM. I like metal and weird electronic music. I also love Furbies.
