Day 12: Green In this part of Texas, Spring is barely peaking out. It's very brown still but there's tiny peaks of green. Spent so much time at the parish the past few days and this spot is still one of my favorites. In the quiet morning, I felt peace for the first time in a few days. In full transparency, I was already in the middle of trust issues with the Father, and I'm working on it. This picture looks peaceful and boring but it was an terrible weather day with some winds of 60 MPH a few days ago. I ended up on this very rural road as a detour because the main highway was closed because a semi truck had been flipped over by the wind and it closed the road. This actually happened dozens of times that day. Day 7: Peaceful Place The background pic is from the bridge part of the trail a few weeks ago. Sunsets are one of my favorite peaceful places. There's a strange poetic beauty in appreciating a day we will never see again. I often sign off my personal messages with "Peace" in English, Spanish, or Latin depending on who I'm addressing. I believe in the power of prayer, and right now my family needs prayers. Just 15 months after burying my niece Carla and her baby Lea, we have to do the same for her sister Laura and her boyfriend Adam. She leaves behind her twins. It breaks my heart that they will have to grow up not knowing their amazing mother. She was beautiful, kind, loving, and strong. We grew up together and she was like a little sister to me. I was so proud of the incredible mother she had been to the girls. This picture is from just 4 months ago when we became the godparents of her nephew Silas. We all had dinner together last week, and it's hard to believe this has happened. I have a hard time accepting that God will allow this, but I have faith that He will get us through it. This last week marked my 2 year anniversary of getting back to taking care of my physical health. Back then I couldn't run .25 miles without dieing. Running is only part of my cross training, but it's special to me. I really believe that investing the time physically gives me the energy to handle my hectic schedule the way meditation and prayer help me stay balanced emotional, mentally, and spiritually. This is from last Sunday when I was visiting my parents and my hometown parish. It's a small parish where everyone eats breakfast together after the 8AM mass. As you can see, I was raised in cowboy culture, but I love the virtues I learned here. Day 2: My Lenten Promise I sometimes have trouble seeing people for the beautiful creations that they are. Many people are very easy, but then there's the ones that require a little more work. I decided that working on this would be the focus of my Lent. During an EMDR session with my therapist this week, I had a beautiful, unexpected epiphany of how I can do it more consciously, and it had been a radical change in my inner dialogue already. Paradox is one of my favorite words because it requires wrestling with complicated truths. We are living paradoxes that can't be easily contained by labels and boxes, and there's so much beauty in that.
