The crunch of the toast and the sweet taste of strawberry, or what Mammon called bloodberry, jam was decidedly Ajays favorite way to start their day. They let out a pleasant little hum as they quietly watched Himiko finish cooking breakfast for Ryo, Grim, and Mammon who got up just slightly later than the messy haired teen.
"It's probably because her spring break just started," Himiko had explained. The hushed clanging of pots and pans had only just started, but Himiko didn't seem as pleased as she did yesterday. "I hope she remembered to set her alarm for RAD today."
"What's a spring break?"
"It's a week where students take off from school for the beginning of spring, at least in the human realm. Since spring doesn't exist in RAD, they don't get that."
"What's a RAD?"
Himiko looked up from the slowly heating pan and turned to the teen who had just settled in a chair. For a moment she thought to question how they hadn't known what RAD was, but then again they also hadn't known what normal food was. So maybe it shouldn't really be a surprise.
The more she learned about the kid the more questions she had.
"RAD, or the Royal Academy or Diavolo, is a school that every demon attends starting from kindergarten to college." She explained as she tossed hashbrowns into the pan. "You will actually be going to RAD with Lucifer and Ryo today, but you'll be staying with Lucifer for the week so remember to bring your bag."
"Okay Lady Himiko."
The kitchen settled into silence after that either only the sound of shadow hog frying on a pan to occupy it.
For a moment Ajay could hear a whisper bloom from the shadows nearby.
"Is Lady Himiko truly anything like what your guardians told you?"
And then another.
"This is temporary. Don't be naive."
Ajays eyes narrowed on their lap. They felt a small ball of something bitter swell and stir, as if something shoved it into their chest and the feeling got comfortable. Their gaze drifted back up to Himiko just as shots of green and black struck through their eye.
"Can I bring Mr. PanPan with me to RAD?" Ajay asked.
The voices retreated and Himiko glanced at Ajay out of the corner of her eye, a raised brow. For a moment she thought to question why the teen had asked that after around twenty minutes of silence, before shrugging and continuing.
"You can't bring stuffed animals into RAD, no." She hummed, setting a third plate next to two other larger ones. "But you can bring him with you to Lucifers."
"I can?"
"I'm sure he won't mind that much. He may be a grouch, but he's a reasonable one."
The sound of half asleep grumbles from the halls put a pause on the conversation as Ryo and Mammon made their way into the room. Grim had decided to ride Ryo like a chariot and sat atop her head, yawning widely before settling down in his own designated seat.
"Good Morning you two." Himiko chuckled.
All she got were affectionate grumbles in response, so she ruffled their bed heads in retaliation as she moved to her own seat.
Ajay took that as their cue to hop off of their seat and start on their way to gather Mr. PanPan to leave in the few minutes they still had at the Nanami-Morningstar household.
"You're not gonna finish your breakfast?" Ryo called through a mouth full of her own food. She gestured towards the still mostly full plate, also decidedly ignoring Himiko's small scolding, and turned to face Ajay.
The half demon only shrugged with a quiet "I'm full." Before they started down the hall.
Grim took his chance and scooped the rest of Ajays food onto his own plate with a wide grin, "more for me!"
Tumblr media
The knock on the door came right on time, if not a few seconds early. Himiko was the one to answer, swinging the door open with a small greeting as Ryo nudged Ajay towards the man in the doorway.
Mammon looked over and scanned the fourteen year old a raised brow, mostly noting their lack of luggage aside from the stuffed panda that hung on their hip. His eyes drifted towards Ryo, then the area surrounding them, before pointing to the non existent bag on their shoulder.
"Is that all that you're bringing?" He asked.
The teen titled their head and blinked, "It's all that I have."
"Oh yeah, ya came from the dungeons."
The ravenett in the doorway smirked with a small rumbling chuckle as he turned to the demoness, "Surely you didn't already take them into your makeshift orphanage, Himiko."
Himiko, as eloquent as she was, decided to go for the straight forward response of, "Watch it, Lucy."
Ajay titled their head at the exchange and gave the group a cautious frown, looking between Himiko and Lucifer. Himiko turned to the teen a small smile, mostly in an attempt to counteract Lucifer's neutral glare.
"You already met him at the castle, but this is Lucifer Morningstar the Avatar of Pride." She introduced, vaguely gesturing in the demon direction.
"Or uncle Lucy." Ryo chimed.
Lucifer's expression shifted into a hard frown that he shot towards the half demon, "Do not call me that."
Mammon strode over his big brother with a roll of his eyes. He leaned most of his weight on him and lightly punched him in the shoulder as he dropped his voice to a whisper, "Quit your glowerin' big bro, you're gonna scare the kid..." he tried.
Lucifer glanced towards the teen and Mammon caught sight of the hesitant glances they kept throwing towards the Avatar of Pride.
"Nevermind you already did."
Lucifer simply shrugged in response and turned to Ajay and Ryo, "Anyway, let's go."
Both teens started toward the elevator, one skipping along while the other strode a few steps behind. Ryo had yet to convince them that this behavior in particular was weird, but the kid was a weird one overall.
Lucifer reached out to stop Ajay for a moment, "I'm going to drop you off at RAD and you will get settled into your room and the dorm after school."
The half demon nodded before darting off to stand by Ryos side, leaving the three adults alone in the living room when the elevator doors closed.
...
"You could've at least tried to be friendly." Himiko mumbled.
"I was."
"No you were not?"
Tumblr media
The large castle-like structure of RAD slid into view quickly, its warm orange lights and many windows illuminating the inside to give Ajay a slight peek into the schedules of the bustling teachers and staff.
The entrance to RAD wasn't as grand as the castle, but still had a flair to it that matched its environment while still standing out as important. That was specifically noted by the large RAD symbol etched into the stone ground.
Students and staff alike chatted around the entrance, making it clear that school hadn't started yet.
The Avatar of Pride handed Ajay a backpack that the teen wasn't sure they'd seen him have before. It was basic in style but weighty.
"This is the only time we'll be driving to RAD." He explained, waiting for Ajay to adjust the bag before dropping it on their shoulder. "During your stay at the House of Lamination my brothers and I will be walking you to and from school."
"What about Ryo?" Ajay questioned. The princeling didn't look up from her phone.
"She also walks to and from school."
"Isn't that dangerous?"
Lucifer raised a brow at the teen, as if the question itself was ridiculous in thought. "She has a father and several of the strongest demons in hell to protect her. You have neither. Who do you think is in more danger?"
The teen, in response, simply blinked and tilted their head. "...Her?"
"Oh. You're dense." Lucifer spoke bluntly and swore he could feel the tell-tell signs of a migraine already starting up in his skull. Just how much trouble had Diavolo gotten him into this time?
"Anyways, Ryo will walk you to the high-school sector and drop you off at your first class. In your bag you'll find everything you need for your classes today, including a D.D.D to stay in touch with Ryo. Don't cause any trouble for me or king Diavolo. Understood?"
"Yes Lord Lucifer." Ajay nodded. They stood up slightly straighter, like a perfect little soldier if Lucifer had to describe it.
"Loosen up old man, how much trouble can this kid really cause?" Ryo rolled her eyes and grabbed Ajays arm with a light tug. She started for RADs entrance, dragging the teen at her side to keep up with her pace, "Let's go before we're late, not that I care but you probably would."
"Okay."
The doors to RAD swung open easily, mostly with either magic or Ryos strength, Ajay couldn't tell. But the second the two stepped into the school the hallway went completely, and awkwardly, silent.
The teen had only been taught so much about the royals, though most of it was word of mouth from two of their guardians about how horrible they are, one of them had taught them the history of how all nine Avatars came to be. But they mostly understood how well respected and renowned they are.
So when they walked into the halls of RAD, they expected the students to turn their full attention to the princette of the Devildom, maybe bow or at least greet her with praises or something. But instead, a harsh uncomfortable silence settled into the hallway as most of the students stilled, while others almost completely ignored her or ran away.
Ajay thought to question it for a moment, but Ryo didn't seem to be that surprised. If anything, the princette only looked slightly bothered but not annoyed.
"Why is everyone ignoring you?"
"Eh, let's just say I wasn't the best brat in my youthful years." Ryo grumbled, crossing her arms slightly tighter over her chest as her eyes flicked to the side. The few demons her age they landed on stiffened. One glared while the other tugged their friend's hand and scurried off somewhere.
If she didn't look annoyed before, then she did now.
"Aren't you sixteen?" Ajay spoke unfazed, looking from the demons back to Ryo with a neutral stare.
"It was so many moons ago."
"You just got back from whatever school it was two days ago."
"You really don't know how to have fun, do ya?" Ryo shot back. The half-demon didn't look the least bit affected by the sarcasm, instead they just looked more confused before shrugging it off as if suddenly deciding that they didn't care for an answer.
Before the silence around the two could be awkward, or Ryo could pick Ajays brain, the sound of rushing footsteps startled the Avatar of Misfortune to attention. A blast of pink hair blew past her and straight up to Ajay in a blur of gray and other colors.
"New kid, new kid!" The younger demon launched themself at Ajay faster than Ryo could blink. Right before they got slammed to the ground with lighting speed.
Ajay grabbed the demon's wrist with one hand and grabbed the front of their uniform with the other, less human, one. They hoisted the demon into the air with ease and body slammed them to the floor without hesitation.
Ryo laughed out loud, but the shrill ring of the bell rang louder.
"Ah shit- that's the bell for class." The princeling rushed and typed out something quick on her D.D.D. Ajay heard a small ding come from one of the pockets of their backpack before Ryo pocketed her phone.
"I sent you your schedule and the location of your first class, it should be pretty easy to find on your own. Ask the teachers for directions afterwards! See ya Ajay!"
The princeling turned on her heel and rushed down the hall towards where Ajay assumed the older teens attended. She was out of eye sight within a millisecond, leaving Ajay completely on their own.
Reaching into the pocket they assumed their D.D.D was held, they pulled it out with their robotic hand and stared for a moment.
...It was more lo-tech than they were expecting. It didn't look like anything close to the technology they were used to in the lab. They almost debated simply downloading the data into their arm after-school, but decided against it.
They found the map for school easy enough, and found their class surprisingly quicker. Not without bumping into a few students and getting growled at by a few others when their solid metal arm jammed into their backs.
Tumblr media
The school day flew by quicker than the half demon expected. But the thing that surprised them the most was the difference in lunch times. They didn't think they were going to sit with Ryo, far from it, but the demon texting them the menu an hour earlier had confused them more than the slang the other teens kept using throughout the day.
Just as Ajay was beginning to get used to the idea of eating lunch alone their attention was caught by speed walking footsteps. As they looked up, their vision was filled with a RAD student skirt, one that was dabbled with bright spray paint spots, a few stitches, and a jacket tied around it. The owner of both simply crossed her arms and let out a giddy hum.
"Sooo, you're new here huh? First day and you're already getting into fights, good job!" The voice said with a small giggle. "Really! I've never seen a move like that! Not even when the princeling went on a rampage a good year back!"
Ajay frowned and turned up to the voice to find a demon with large light purple eyes and pink-orange puffy hair that was pulled up into two buns. She was smiling wide down at them with shark-like teeth and crossed arms.
The girl held out a hand towards Ajay before taking it back when their confused frown only grew worse. She shrugged, unfazed or unbothered, and introduced herself.
"The name is Candy, current record holder for most detentions and the demon you bodyslammed earlier!"
"Oh."
A different voice spoke next, this one slightly deeper than Candys' and with a hint of an accent. "Which isn't something to be proud of, but she doesn't have much."
"That ugly rat is Luka." Candy huffed, pointing somewhere over her shoulder and right towards the demon with blue eyes, black side parted short hair, and a small playful smile. He stood slightly further back and gave Ajay a nod of acknowledgement before quickly looking away.
"Guys, don't scare the new kid." A third voice chuckled. This one was softer than Candys' and higher pitched than Lukas'.
Candy rolled her eyes and plopped herself next to Ajay. She nudged their arm and gestured over to the green eyed, black and green haired, golden freckled girl standing slightly closer to the two.
"That mom friend who needs therapy over there is Gidorah." Candy explained.
"Why are you sitting here?"
"Because we wanted to sit with you. New kid and all y'know."
"I do not know."
"Okay then! Anyway, what's your favorite color?"
Tumblr media
"King Diavolo, I don't believe it's a good idea to let Ajax-"
"Ajay."
"Ajay join gym class, at least not without power inhibitors or something. Or maybe seeing a doctor because what they did in the first place wasn't normal, your highness."
Now, in Ajays defense, they didn't exactly mean to cause one of the gym walls to collapse or to cause a chunk of the concrete to crack. They were told to not hold back against the other team in dodgeball, even though they didn't know what the phrase "hold back" meant.
So here they stood in the student council room before several new, colorful haired, Avatars of sin that they only knew by name alone.
"I see..." The demon king let out a loud sigh and cast his hazel eyes over the teen, who looked nothing less than confused. "Yes, that is going to be a problem. We can't have the gym getting destroyed every other day."
"They collapsed an entire wall." The orange haired demon whispered, staring at Ajay with wide disbelieving eyes.
The pink-ish haired demon next to his side glanced at his brother with his head in his palm. "Why do you sound so surprised, you do that when someone eats your custard, Beel."
"But they're scrawny..."
"If the peanut gallery wouldn't mind keeping it down." Lucifer, who currently looked half ready to smack someone upside the head, interrupted.
The green eyed demon flicked through a few papers, which Ajay still found strange, before he looked up to address the room with a hand on his chin. "The damage the gym sustained will require a healthy chunk of this month's budget to go towards fixing it. We'd have to cut-"
Diavolo cut off the Avatar with a shake of his head. "No, that won't be required. I'll pay for the damages myself. After all this was my mistake." He hummed. The room went silent, but Diavolo simply turned to the gym teacher with an embarrassed smile, "I meant to give them inhibitors before they went to gym, but I got so caught up in work that I forgot."
"More like his date with Lucifer..." The purple haired demon mumbled with a small giggle. This earned him a glare from Lucifer, a few chuckles from the other demons at the table, and a tired strained smile from the teal haired demon who had barely spoken since the meeting started.
"Well then, I will have preparations for the repair of the gym begin tomorrow morning, my lord."
"Well that was resolved quickly. What about them?" The gym teacher jolted a thumb in the half demon's direction, finally catching their attention.
Diavolo narrowed his eyes on the teen for a moment, watching them stand as still as a statue. "They will be let off with a warning," he decided, "a formal apology letter to your teacher will be written by tomorrow. Understood Ajay?"
The teen turned their attention to the king with a small nod, "Yes your highness."
"Aww, they’re so polite!" The pink haired demon cooed.
"Do we all agree that this is a fair consequence?"
"Yes."
"Sure."
"I don't see why not."
"Mhm."
The gym teacher stared down the half demon for a moment before nodding with a shrug. As long as it wasn't coming out of his paycheck or the gym budget, he didn't care that much anyway.
The blue-ish haired demon looked less than pleased, even sinking back into his chair. "I can't believe I got called out of class for this. It's the only easy one that gives me time to catch on the earliest updates of my favorite webcomics."
Lucifer slowly turned to look past Mammon's seat and glared down at the purple haired demon with daggers in his eyes. The energy in the room shifted, and Ajay could've sworn that Lucifer was the Avatar of wrath himself.
"Are you complaining about attending your student council responsibilities? And what are you doing on your phone when you're supposed to be focused on class?"
"Oh no..."
"And with that, this student council meeting can end here." Diavolo rushed.
The gym teacher turned and stared at Ajay for a moment, a question at the edge of his lips. What he saw that child do was unlike anything he had seen before in all of his years alive. But before suspicions could settle in, a stern smile from Diavolo shot it down. The demon sighed and left the student council room with a sharp turn.
The Avatar of pride tore his attention away from the purple haired demon to give the teen a barely softer glare. "Remember when I told you this morning not to cause trouble for me or king Diavolo?" He asked. His voice dropping into a tone that Ajay couldn't exactly place.
They knew they were in trouble, but not the kind of trouble their guardians normally threatened, clearly.
"Yes?"
"And yet only one day here and you're already causing property damage to the school."
The purple and white haired demon lifted his head up for the first time in a while and glanced down at the teen with an amused hum, "Satan's record was actually a few hours short of yours."
"You guys keep a record?" The blonde demon questioned.
"We will discuss this further at the House of Lamination since it is the end of the day, grab your things and meet up at the entrance Ajay."
"Okay."
That bit of the conversation caught the attention of the several other demons around the room, all with a range of looks of shock to completely unbothered.
"Wait, hold up, hold up." Belphegor shot up and whipped his head around to face Lucifer, "They're coming to live with us?! Since when, and why weren't we told about this?!"
"You didn't tell your brothers?"
"I did. I texted them each individually. He has me blocked."
Tumblr media
The walk to the House of Lamination felt like an eternity plus some to Ajay. Mostly because several of the brothers, Asmodeus, Satan, and Belphegor, wouldn't stop peppering them with a number of questions. A few of which they physically couldn't answer even if they wanted to.
More surprisingly was when every one of them walked into the house with Lucifer instead of eventually leaving to go off to their own homes like Ajay assumed.
That was, until the realization struck the half demon like lightning.
Ajays eyes widened ever so slightly, barely showing the actual shock behind them.
"All of you live together?"
Lucifer turned to them with a frown, yet again looking at them as if they just asked one of the stupider questions he's heard. "Yes. Me and my brothers, except for Mammon, live in this house."
The teen raised a robotic finger and counted, horror and disbelief slowly growing up until the number hit six. Six people in one house, counting themself made seven.
"...All of you? In one house?"
"Yes, child." Lucifer narrowed his eyes on the half-demon, waving away the giggles that poured from his brothers. If it weren't for the forewarning that Ajay was generally quiet, they would've been cackling. That he was sure of.
This was it, Ajay was sure that if their guardians didn't find and kill them, or they didn't die fighting the Avatars whenever that was supposed to happen, then this was it.
Living in a loud, chaotic house with six other people would do them in.

Mine...
Huh??
Who... am... I..?
Oh, another nightmare.
Frantic screaming, pulling, fighting.
Another soul's nightmare.
Someone is dying... I'm... dying? No. No, I can't die. I have to live, why am I dying, I can't die, this isn't fair-
It wasn’t fair.
THIS. ISN'T. FAIR.
.
...
.....
Ajay shot up out of bed and grasped at the hand clawing at their chest. Sweat dropped down their brow and their eyes frantically bounced around the room. The lights were still off and strained ears could barely pick up on the slow breathing coming from deeper in the house.
The room wasn't familiar. Windows without bars stretched tall to show the moon reflecting into the room and stars replaced the blinding white lights they were used to. And the smell of fresh laundry replaced the nauseating scent of chemicals, blood, and bleach.
And this wasn't their room.
With a deep breath in, Ajay slowly pried their metal arm away from their chest and shifted to take a cautious step out of bed. The plush carpet grounded them and somewhat settled their rattled nerves as the pattered toward the door.
Ajay felt their pupils grow to adjust to the darkness of the house. The only sounds were the air conditioning, their footsteps, and the far-away breathing from earlier.
As they turned the corner the light from the pool on the balcony poured through the blinds and lit up the way to the kitchen.
"A drink of water wouldn't hurt." Ajay mumbled.
From within a bedroom the Avatar of Greed listened to the sound of a stranger, likely a child Himiko brought home in her sudden disappearance and late return, wandered the halls.
The sound of mechanical whirring sounded, yet it was too many sources to just be the fridge.
Well this one is gonna be a sight.
Tumblr media
The next time Ajay woke up, they awoke to the smell of something... delicious and soft chatter outside of the room. One was slightly higher with a tinge of an accent, Lady Himiko. Another was deeper with an accent of its own, they were also speaking faster than lady Himiko.
The sound of a door opening had two members of the house shoot their gazes towards the entrance, the third jumped and froze stiff.
"OKAASAN!!! DAAAAD!! I'M HOOOME!!"
Okaasan, mom.
The sound of rushing footsteps and loud laughter bounced through the house with a light sound to it. Conversation started up again, but this time with two extra voices. One had a similar accent to both, yet it was slightly deeper pitched. The other... meowed?
Footsteps drifted further away from the door and the light clanging of pots and pans returned.
Ajay tilted their head towards the door before shrugging and returning to fiddling with their arm.
From within the kitchen, Mammon was excitedly talking to Ryo about all that he and Himiko had planned for the day. An arcade that had recently reopened, shopping, going out to eat, the works.
Ryo listened, nodding along while occasionally throwing in whenever something reminded him of an adventure at NRC. Grim, his beloved companion and outstanding help in the kitchen if the missing bits of food were anything to go by, boasted and interrupted at times with his own stories. Or versions of them anyway.
Himiko smiled at the family that had gathered in the kitchen as she cooked, the conversation continued until she plated the food, when it suddenly stopped.
There was one for Mammon, one for her, one for Ryo, and even one for Grim. But there was also one more for someone who wasn't in the room.
"Who's that for?" Mammon asked as he took his seat next to Ryo, "Did you bring a new kid home?"
Ryo looked up from his plate and glanced between his parents before looking at the plate by the empty seat. He raised a brow as Himiko nodded and gestured to where the guest room was. The more she strained her ears, the more she finally heard it, a sudden silence as if whoever was there had gone still.
"Yes, speaking of, it's about time I introduced you, Ajay! Breakfast is ready! Come eat!"
...
Silence.
Himiko raised a brow and turned her attention towards where the guest room was. Not a sound had come from the room signaling the teens' appearance. She called out again, this time a little louder in case they weren't awake, only to be met with silence again.
"Hold on, I'll go get the-"
Before Himiko could finish her sentence the screeching of a chair against the floor interrupted her.
"NEW BLOOD, I'LL FIND EM!" Ryo shouted as he hopped up out of his chair. Before anyone could blink, he darted down the hall and around the corner, completely ignoring both of his parents calling out to him. He knocked on the door once, twice, and three times without an answer before opening the door with a loud slam.
Ryo looked around the room with narrowed eyes and a raised brow. The room light was on and the sheets were messed up, so someone was in the room. He turned up his nose and sniffed the air, almost flinching at the scent of sour muddled magic.
He took one step into the room and stopped at the sound of a loud thump. A shadow moved from underneath the bed and a black haired kid hopped up from the other side, tilting their head when they spotted him.
"Sooo, you're the new kid?" Ryo crossed her arms, "What's your name?"
"Ajay."
"Nice to meetcha, I'm Ryo!"
Ajay nodded and Ryos gaze snapped over to their mechanical arm. It was something he'd never even seen before yet seemed vaguely familiar. The black haired teen glanced down at their arm and screwed in a panel that covered up a window to wire like things in the arm before looking back over to Ryo.
"Did you need something, prince?"
The demon raised a brow and scrunched up his nose, "you can just call me Ryo, you're living in my house."
Ajay tilted their head, almost as if they didn't have a clue as to what he was talking about, before shrugging.
"Annnnnyway, breakfast is done, mom called you to eat." Ryo said. He turned on his heel to walk out, stopping just before the door.
"Nice arm by the way, high tech, looks cool."
Ajay watched the door shut and stood silent for a moment before shrugging. They finished screwing on the panel on their arm before leaving the room, following the sound of chatter to the kitchen.
"Good Morning Ajay."
"Good morning Lady Himiko, Lord Mammon."
Himiko shook her head at the same time Mammon shot the kid a smile. Ryo sat back down and Grim landed on his shoulder, looking the kid up and down while puffing out his chest for a moment before pouting with disappointment.
"And what about me?!" Grim grumbled.
Ajay turned towards the cat and tilted their head. They frowned in confusion and crossed their arms, "What... exactly are you?"
"I'm Grim! The best housewarden of ramshackle dorm and the greatest mage to ever live!" Grim said, shooting Ajay a confident smirk.
Ryo looked up from his plate and smothered a giggle as she watched Ajay sit down, simply nodding at the cat's boisterous introduction. "More like vice housewarden , I'm the one who actually keeps the place standing." The demon remarked, giving the cat her own fanged grin when he frowned at her.
"And I wouldn’t say you're the greatest mage to ever live just yet." Himiko tossed in.
Friendly bickering started up between Ryo and Grim, although it was mostly one-sided as Grim seemed to be losing the not-argument.
"You're the first ever broke furry to exist, I think that's a great accomplishment."
Correction, losing horribly.
Ajay looked down at the plate in front of them and tilted their head. They didn't actually... know what was on it. It didn't seem like any devildom ingredients they knew, it all looked like things from the human realm if what they've read proved right, but that didn't make it look unappetizing. But It was still much different from what they were used to.
Mammon shot the teen a glance and raised a brow at the analytical eye they were shooting their food. "The food ain't poisoned, y'know?" He chuckled.
"I know, I just can’t identify what it is." Ajay shrugged.
Ryo stopped eating to look up from her plate. She quickly swallowed and pointed her fork at the teen with a questioning fanged smile. "You don't know what eggs, bacon, and toast is? That's just basic breakfast."
Silence fell over the table when Ajay slowly turned to Ryo with a confused frown. They glanced from Ryo, down the plate, then back to Ryo, and blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
And then... "What exactly is... "breakfast?""
Ryo went slack-jawed, Grims eyes widened in disbelief, and Mammon almost choked on his food.
Himiko cleared her throat, causing each to sit straight up, and turned to Ajay. "Breakfast is the first meal of the day? It's where you get all of your vitamins, nutrients, and calories for the morning." The demoness explained.
Ryo leaned further out of her chair, examining Ajay with a skeptical eye. "I call bullshit," she nodded, "what have you been eating then??"
"Hm, I never asked. I wasn't exactly given..." Ajay gestured to their plate, "this. During mealtimes I was injected with a nutritional supplement, sometimes I would be hooked up to an IV."
A loud cough tied with the clatter of a fork hitting a plate startled everyone and Himiko looked over to see her husband recovering from almost choking on his food.
"Fuckin hell kid..." Mammon grumbled, slamming his fist to his chest. Himiko reached out and started to pat Mammon on the back while Ryo moved Ajays plate closer to them. She not-so-subtly moved their utensils closer to them as well, eyes glancing between the plate and the teen.
"Use the fork, it's the pronged one, it's used for stabbable foods." Ryo pointed to the utensil closest to Ajays hand and watched them pick it up before scooping up a piece of egg and eating it.
Himiko watched Ajay hesitantly chew before their pupils blew wide and their white eye glimmered with a striking red. She chuckled as she watched Ajay start eating faster, barely stopping to breathe. They hummed happily as they ate, even their eyes looked like they were glowing despite their expression never changing.
"Mmm, good!!"
Grims eyes widened as he watched the kid almost empty their plate in seconds, "Jeeeebus! They're almost as bad as me!"
"You ate rocks, bro." Ryo giggled, "no one will be as bad as you except for uncle Beel."
"Mhm," Himiko nodded, "Oh, Ryo, about that one arcade you and your friends used to go to. I hear they have new games too, it's a shame someone beat your DDR high score though."
"HUH?!" Ryo let out a loud gasp, almost loud enough that Grim could've swore she would start choking at any minute. She sat back down in seat and shoveled the last of her breakfast into her mouth with a pout, "I worked on that for MONTHS, uuuuuGGGHHHH."
Himiko looked around at the empty plates and nodded, "Well, since we've all finished our breakfast, go get dressed and be ready in thirty."
Ryo hopped up out of her seat and darted over to her room with Grim in toe. Mammon gave Himiko a kiss on the forehead before walking off to their shared room to get ready, leaving Ajay and Himiko by themselves.
"There should be some spare clothes in the closet that fit you."
"Huh?"
The chair squeaked against the floor as Himiko stood and gathered the plates in her hand and placed them in the sink. When she returned to the dining room, Ajay was still sitting in their seat. The teen tilted their head at the demoness as she walked in, this time raising a brow at them.
"Am I coming along...?" They asked, frowning in confusion.
"Yes? Of course you are, you're under my watch Ajay, I can't just leave you here alone. Now go get dressed."
That's when they felt it. A spike of stabbing pain tore through them, ripping its way down to their legs and into their soul. They bit down on their tongue to suppress a yelp as they stood. They gave Himiko a short nod, stopping when another bout of pain bloomed on their tongue.
Just as always.
"Yes Lady Himiko." They said, face black and voice empty. They turned on their heel and strode over to their room with a nod without looking back.
Himiko blinked as she watched the kid seemingly run off, "Okay..." She shrugged. She began walking to her room to get dressed but took one last look towards the guest room doors.
"I really should ask Diavolo where they came from..." She mumbled to herself, sighing before turning back towards her room.
Tumblr media
"RIDE HENCHMEN! FOR THE NACHOS!! FOR THE GLORY!!"
"GRIM GET OFF-A ME!!"
Grim had decided to take a perch atop Ryos head, completely ignoring the twenty minutes of work that went into taming the damned thing. This earned the cat several swats until he finally settled on sitting on Ryos shoulder.
The smell of food and cheesy fries wafted through the air, along with the sounds of games and demons laughing both with and at each other. From somewhere out of sight, the sound of cheering was accompanied by tickets rapidly spilling out of the machine.
Ryo barely acknowledged the beaming grin on his face.
The arcade wasn't overly different from the human arcades Ryo went to while he attended NRC, it had the lights, the noises, the food, the extremely unhinged carpet, everything.
Including his old favorite, Devil-Dance Revolution.
"Now that, kid" Ryo threw an arm over Ajays shoulder and missed how they startled. He pointed towards the lit up machine with symbols on its floor pad and flashed Ajay a fanged grin, "that is DDR, one of the best games in this arcade, and I'm gonna show you how it's done."
Ajay glanced between the machine and Ryo before giving in with a nod. The princelet darted off towards the machine with a floundering Grim in toe. Mammon walked after them as a few more people surrounded the machine and Himiko approached their side.
The moment Ryo stepped foot on that machine, Ajay got the distinct feeling that he likely wasn't getting off of it any time soon. Their eyes, which were trained to track the speed of a lightning bolt, could barely keep up with how fast his feet flew to every beat. They heard Mammon, Himiko, Grim, and even a few other demons that gathered around cheering for the princelet.
It was much, much different from the lab. In fact, the noise from the crowd and smell from the food court nearby was almost loud enough to cover up the cry of a child from nearby.
Almost.
Ajays eyes flickered over to the sound for a moment. They caught a glimpse of a shorter demon, one much younger, lose a fight to a much older demon over a plush toy. They then frowned for a moment when they looked back over to where Himiko and Mammon were standing right in front of them.
Deep in the back of their mind, they heard a little whisper.
"That poor child, no one technically ordered you to stay close," A voice hummed, a second one following close behind.
"It wouldn't take that long to get the toy back anyway. A quick in and out, and no one will notice you're gone!"
Ajay felt their nails dig into their fist as they fought the urge to wander away. With the amount of trouble they were already in, they were lucky to be alive. They couldn’t just...
They shouldn't just leave...
"But that kid had her doll stolen. She's still crying, it had to have meant something to her. Go get it back."
And yet they couldn't find it in themself to fight it when they snapped their eyes away from the royal couple and a flash of blue shot through their vision. With a low pop, one that was likely covered up by the noise of the arcade, Ajays vision filled a row of games.
It didn't take Ajay long to find the thief, not when the scent of pure greed doused the trail they left behind. Slitted pupils locked onto unhuman yellow and Ajay felt claws slowly grow on their robotic arm. The thief snarled and sprinted towards the door, leaving Ajay behind in the arcade.
A glowing green soul hovered almost near their vision as Ajay swiftly strode towards the exit.
It wouldn't take them long to find the thief anyway.
Grim narrowed suspicious eyes on the new kid. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to follow, but it's not his fault he got curious about the person who can apparently teleport when they started acting weird. He had seen a lot of weird things during his time at NRC, especially with the overblots, but nothing like this before.
And they also walked off without telling anyone! With how new they were to breakfast, they definitely won't last long just wandering about the devildom by themself. So it was up to the great Grim to step up and protect them!
At least, that's what he told himself as he mumbled a rushed goodbye to Ryo, who hadn't missed a beat even when he waved Grim off, and flew after the kid through a row of Sci-Fi games.
Tumblr media
The alleyways that twisted and turned around the arcades exterior were easier to map out than expected.
The dim lights of street lamps from the walkway lit the area well enough that Ajay didn’t have to rely on anything other than their eyesight. The same, however, couldn't be said for Grim. Despite the flames from his ears, he couldn't understand how his minion managed to live in the dark like this.
Ajay jolted to a stop just before turning a corner, waiting for the footsteps they had been following to slow down before turning their eyes behind them.
"Why are you following me?"
"GAH!!" Grim nearly leapt out of his fur when Ajay spoke for the first time in the last five minutes before deflating, "Aw man... I was being so sneaky too."
"...sure." the half demon whispered with a shake of their head, glancing back down the alleyway.
Grim frowned at the silence and crossed his arms, the kid had been so focused that they didn't bother to mention the lack of an answer. "You're a real tough cookie, aren't you." He remarked as he hovered near Ajays side.
The alley they were so focused on was damn-near pitch black. Even with his flamed ears, Grim couldn't see a thing. But he could pick up on the slight sound of rummaging paired with scuttling, plastic bags, and the clinking of... gems?
A glint of reflective light caught the corner of Grims eye and he glanced down to see Ajays robotic claws stretch out impossibly further and impossibly sharper.
"Yeesh, those things are sharper than mine-"
"Wha- WHO'S THERE." A gruff voice called, Ajay felt themself get yanked back by a pair of paws. "You snot nosed brat, you better not have followed me!"
"W-whoa, he sounds pretty pissed. You're not really gonna fight that guy, are you? You're pretty small-"
Before Grim had finished his sentence, a sound that neared on a pained shriek broke the barrier of silence that covered the alley way. His eyes shot to the empty spot where Ajay was just standing and a groan tore its way out of his mouth before he noticed.
He clearly had his paws full.
Tumblr media
Ryo hadn't missed a beat in the past three songs he had clearly mastered.
Now normally Himiko would've been cheering right along with the crowd, definitely not louder than Mammon was but loud enough. However, one voice was missing from the crowd. Her child's beloved, and admittedly loud, cat.
"Ryo, where did Grim go?"
"Eh? I dunno," Ryo hummed, not missing a beat when the tempo picked up, "he said he was gonna follow Ajay or somethin'."
Himiko froze up and blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Then snapped her gaze to the very clearly empty spot where Ajay was just standing moments ago. Her eyes then swooped around the area, between games and guests that wandered through the arcade, and she didn't catch even a glimpse of blue ears nor puffy black hair.
Fuck ...she lost the child under house arrest.
Himiko nodded with a strained smile and slowly turned around before speed walking over to her, still cheering, husband.
Mammon looked down as he felt a tug on his sleeve and frowned when he was met with panicked onyx eyes. Golden eyes scanned the area and locked onto his child before looking down at the lack of a threat.
"What's up treasure, what's wrong?"
"I lost the kid under house arrest!"
"You lost the- what?! The kids under house arrest?! For what?!"
"Breaking into the castle!"
"What the fu-"
Tumblr media
"Last time I'm asking. Where. Is. The. Toy."
"I-I don't know what you're talking about kid!"
The demon pinned to the gravel ground could barely answer pass the wheezes he let out. Throughout the entire fight, he barely landed a scratch on the kid. One kick from them felt like a truck, and a punch felt like getting hit with a ton of bricks out of a rocket launcher. Even the monster behind them looked shocked.
He barely stood a chance.
"Final answer?"
"Yes!"
The child stood and finally took their foot off of the pinned demon's chest. And just as he was about to breathe in a sigh of relief, the sound of mechanical whirring and something powering up hit.
And he was staring right into a growing ball of light down their barrel of a hand.
Ajays white eye slowly clouded over with multiple colors, multiple sins. Their arm flashed just the same, each swirling to mix into a muddled mess of magic ready to launch. The panicking demon quickly scrambled backwards until he knocked over a trash can.
Grim looked away from the scene to see half of a red panda plush peeking out of the trash can, "Huh? What's this?" He mumbled.
Ajay glanced to the side before looking back down at the frightened demon. With a swift motion, they powered down their arm and knocked out the thief with one punch.
"That... would be the plush he stole."
"Is this what you were chasing him down for?" Grim asked, picking up the plush and turning it over to reveal a stormy purple gem sitting right on the animal's chest. "Why did you want this?"
"I don't want it." Ajay shrugged. They reached out to gently take the plush from the cat's claws to inspect it, "he stole it from a child back at the arcade... so I wanted to get it back."
"Oooh, okay. Could've at least explained it before wandering off. But this was another win for the great Grim!"
Ajay nodded along as the cat cheered to himself, even tilting their head in amusement as he pumped his paw into the air. The next thing Grim knew, the panda was placed back into his paws and Ajay nodded towards the end of the alley that led back to the sidewalk.
"You can go ahead if you want, I want to make sure he didn't steal anything else."
"Okay, Mx hero."
Grim floated ahead for a moment before freezing as a low whisper floated through the air. He couldn't make out what it meant, but a gasp of air came from behind him and he whipped around.
Only to see Ajay striding towards him, and the thief that was just on the floor was nowhere to be seen.
"Wha?! Did he escape that fast?!"
"The demon? I guess so..."
Tumblr media
"Where'd Grim go?!"
"That's what I'm trying to figure out."
"Where'd the KID go?!?"
Ryo looked around the arcade for what was the fifth time that minute only to still come up empty in the search for Grim or the new kid. Not even the call of nachos brought the cat back, and that was concerning.
Himiko had almost reached for her phone to call Grim and Ajay, only to be stopped by the realization that neither of them actually had phones. None of the demons in the crowd watching Ryo play DDR saw them disappear either, only a few saw Grim fly off, but that was it.
"Nah, nothin'." Mammon huffed. His sprint around the arcade came up empty, and he swore he checked every inch of the place.
"Well they couldn’t have disappeared into thin air..." Himiko thought out loud.
The sound of a child cheering cut them off.
Tumblr media
"Thank you so so much!!" The child cheered as she hugged the somewhat dirty plush to her chest as tight as she could. Her mother silently nodded to the two in thanks and waved over her shoulder
Silence spread over the two as they waved goodbye to the little girl, watching her carry her toy happily hand in hand with her mom.
"Another day, another heroic adventure for the great Grim!" The cat laughed from his place on Ajays shoulder.
"Hmm." Ajay stared forward with a neutral glare, raising five mechanical fingers where Grim could see as their arm whirred, a small ball of light appearing in their palm. "You have five seconds to get off my shoulder and continue living your long happy life, ready? 1, 2, 3, 4-"
"NYAAAAAAAA?!" Grim leapt up, tail almost slapping Ajay, and flew backwards towards where Himiko, Mammon, and Ryo were waiting on them.
Ajay shrugged and followed Grim, it's not like they could've attacked him anyway, a low voice spoke just loud enough for them to hear.
"Weapon mode on, Arm gun locked. Ryo is too close."
...now they didn't remember their guardians installing something like that.
A slap on their shoulders cut off their thought process and they jumped, turning to see Lord Mammon smiling down at them with a grin that didn't meet his eyes.
"So, ya broke into the castle, huh? What kinda bad bet was that?"
...damnit.

Himiko never made a habit of going into peoples rooms without permission, with the only exception being cleaning. But she chose to break the rule just this once, and entered the guest room after the third knock without an answer.
Onyx eyes scanned the room from ceiling, to empty bed, to clean floors. Yet there was not a single half-demon in sight.
Only a lone red panda plush that sat on the nightstand...
It was in that moment that she decidedly not trusted the plush red panda that sat innocently in its spot.
Apparently it had appeared spontaneously in the middle of the night, right on the foot of the guest bed. She knew the toy was something that Ajay cherished, as they had affectionately dubbed him "Mr. PanPan" the moment they saw him, yet he just looked too... alive. And not in the judgmental manner of Mr. Fuku, no. Something far more sinister...
Wrenching her gaze away from the nerve-wracking stare down, she continued in her search for the kid under house arrest.
"Did you need something, Lady Himiko?"
"OH FU- By Diavolo, there you are Ajay..."
The teen tilted their head with a confused frown, as confused as a neutral stare could get, and side-eyed the empty guest room. Whatever they were looking for, apparently they didn't find it as they turned back to Himiko with more neutral confusion than the first look had.
"Is something wrong, your highness?" The teen questioned, robotic arm even drooping in sync with their shoulders.
Himiko sighed and dropped her hand from her chest, cautiously glaring at the still red panda plush on the nightstand. "No, well not no, I came to get you for lunch. You skipped breakfast, which is fine since not everyone eats it, but you need to eat something. It's bad for both your mental and physical health to skip meals."
"Both are already in shambles." The teen mumbled to nobody.
Before the demoness could question the whisper a brief waft of something sweet drifted by. Himiko's attention drifted over to the direction of the kitchen, missing the way Ajays pupils blew wide and their nose twitched. Even the gem necklace that hung on their neck swayed ever so slightly.
Grims head peaked around the corner with a wide grin, "The cookies are done!" He announced before zipping back over to the kitchen faster than either could blink.
"I'm surprised they didn't burn them," Himiko chuckled, fondness edging at her voice, "Come on Ajay."
The half demon followed behind silently, as silent as they could be when they weren’t actively quieting their robotic arm anyway. It was at times like this, walking behind someone they were taller than by a whole head, that Ajay wondered which part of the experiment made them taller than they felt.
Then they rounded the corner into the kitchen and spotted Ryo and Mammon standing over a perfectly made tray of unidentified food, and remembered that they're actually rather short for a demon.
"There you two are!" Ryo looked up and waved while attempting to speak through a cookie, "I was gonna eat all these cookies by myself if you didn't show up soon!"
Mammon looked over and waved next. "I like the whole motif you've got goin' kid. Red panda necklace, red panda plush, really sticking to a brand." He remarked, nodding to Ajays green necklace hung right around their neck.
"Thank you Lord Mammon."
Himiko picked up one of the golden brown cookies and turned it over with a satisfied smile, "Good job on the cookies."
"They ain't even burnt!" Mammon exclaimed as he stood proudly over the tray, chest even puffed out just the slightest bit.
Himiko rolled her eyes and lightly batted Grim away from the tray to take her seat, "Yes yes, amazing job you two. I'm very proud."
"A great enough job to earn a kiss?" Mammon smiled, barely leaning over the table to receive a kiss on the cheek from his wife, which was followed by a loud fake barf from his daughter.
"Ah yes, how rancid, to have two deeply in love parents." The demon remarked, dramatically leaning himself over his daughter before dead dropping all of his weight onto her already struggling form.
"YOU ALMOST MADE ME DROP MY COOKIE!"
"What's that thing you kids say? Oh yeah, skill issue."
"EH?!?!"
Ajay tilted their head at the two demons fighting for their lives before turning to Himiko with the same puzzled expression. "What's a skill issue?" They asked while choosing to stand rather than sit.
Himiko pointed to a chair next to her and watched the child sit before giving them an answer, "To lack in a specific skill, a skill issue."
"Okay... and what's a cookie?"
"A dessert that you're not gonna eat until you at least eat something with nutrition." Himiko nodded, reaching over to the fruit bowl right next to the cookies and grabbing a heart shaped red thing that Ajay once again did not recognize.
"What is that?"
The demoness stopped for a moment and blinked before her expression morphed into one of shock. "Do you... not know what an apple is?" She asked, watching the half demon shrug with their eyes locked onto the fruit in her hand.
"No. No I do not." They answered, blunt and fast.
Dual-colored eyes stayed locked onto the fruit in the well manicured hand and Himiko nearly thought they were attempting to explode it with their mind for a moment. She handed the apple over to Ajay and placed it in their hand, "Here, try it and see if you like it. If not I'll get you a different fruit-"
"Oh it's sweet."
By the time she turned back to the teen, a large chunk had been taken out of the apple. They chewed for a moment, expression twisted into one of both shock and surprise. But they didn't look upset.
"This is... a lot sweeter than I expected." Ajays eyes widened with a red glow in one, swallowing the bite they already had before taking another with a delighted hum while gleefully kicking their feet. Himiko even swore they had a little smile.
Ryo wrenched her way out of her father's noogie and raced over to where Ajay sat devouring the apple. She chuckled at the gleeful teen, even sliding another apple slice into their unsuspecting hand, "I would say I'm surprised, but seeing as you probably lived in a cave, I am not."
Ajay almost stopped to ask why Ryo thought they lived in a cave, only to remember that they currently had a lovely fruit from the gods in their hand and couldn't be bothered with questions.
Mammon smiled as the half demon scarfed down their last bite of apple and he turned to pick up a cookie, tossing it with a flip before handing it in the teens direction. "Here kid, now that you've had your nutrition you should try one of these before Grim stuffs them into his never ending stomach." He remarked, turning to shoot a sly smirk at Grims pout.
A robotic hand took it with only a moment's hesitation. Ajay raised it to their nose and sniffed it for a second, ignoring the questioning stares they got, before biting into it.
All at once, three things happened.
One, their eyes and pupils blew wide.
Two, the cookie in their hand was gone and before anyone could blink they grabbed another, devouring both it and a third in quick succession.
And three, Ajay shot ridged straight and dead still in their seat, so tense that Himiko wondered if Ajay had stopped breathing. Right as Ajays eyes went just the slightest bit wider, Ryo let out a low chuckle and whispered "Oh no." Before taking a few steps back.
Ajay began to rapidly bounce in their seat and flap their free hand so fast Mammon thought it would flop out of its socket, "SUGARRRRRR!!!!"
The teen raced out of their chair and dashed around the living room faster than anyone had even seen them move, only stopping every so often before darting around a corner and zipping right back.
"Oh-" Mammon stepped out of the way seconds before Ajay ripped past him and out into the gardens, "Yeah, kid! Sugar-"
Just as fast as they left, the teen darted back through the sliding glass door, jolting to a stop in the living room. Dual-colored wide eyes locked onto Ryo, and Ryo stared back. Himiko, Mammon, and Grim watched in tense silence for a moment before Ajays shot her a mischievous grin. Ryo smiled with a playful growl and hopped up out of her chair.
"Oi, you wanna SCRAP kid?! let's go!" She cheered, launching herself over the couch and chasing after the half demon who sidestepped and hopped over her before racing off with a laughing Ryo behind them.
Himiko hummed with a tilt of her head as she watched the two teens expertly race around the living room, surprisingly without breaking anything. Ryo even got a face full of couch cushion when Ajay teleported out of the way of an incoming tackle, to which she claimed was cheating. The bracelet on Ajays wrist apparently agreed as it stopped them the next time they tried, which led to them nearly getting body slammed.
"How long do you think they'll last before they crash?"
Mammon watched the two and swallowed his own cookie before responding, "I give it two hours, a sugar rush can't last that long."
A sugar rush can in fact last that long. Long as half of the day.
Ryo tapped out after the second hour of chasing them, claiming that the P.E in NRC had taken enough out of her before Grim took her place. He too suffered the same fate as Ajay was simply too slippery to catch, or so he says.
Mammon also took a go at entertaining the child, at one point even pulling out a red laser pointer that he had the time of his life watching them chase. The scratches on the walls are a simple enough fix.
The Avatar of Misfortune had even decided to toss them into the pool, which in turn got her both dragged in and the interesting discovery that Ajay couldn’t swim but had a ridiculous lung capacity. She found out the latter when Ajay didn’t surface for three minutes straight and scared everyone into thinking they drowned. Mammon ended up retrieving them.
Himiko, in the end of it all, jumped in just as the last bit of energy made its way out of Ajays system. All had gathered in the living room and Himiko decided to entertain them by simply letting them talk themself to exhaustion.
Ajay bounced rapidly from their seat on the floor, robotic arm even buzzing, and turned to Himiko with the most serious look they could muster in their sugar crazed state.
"If DK is the initials for Demon King, does that make Lord Diavolo Donkey Kong?"
Mammon and Grim collectively stopped to think about the question. Occasionally even going to respond or debate before turning the question over in their heads.
Ryo, on the other hand, answered with a swift and enthusiastic, "Yes! You see the vision! Ace is wrong yet again!" Followed by a prideful smile as she leaned back in her seat, sticking her tongue out at Grim.
Himiko didn't bother answering as Ajay nodded to Ryos answer and continued to talk themself in circles about the apparent meaning of life and Diavolo secretly having a child called Diddy Kong. Even if it was clear that they had no clue what they were talking about, not when Donkey Kong apparently threw watermelons.
"And that's way, mathematically speaking, an Avatar could be created off of the sin of choccy milk-" The half demon's rant was cut off by a long, fanged, yawn. They shook their head for a moment as a last ditch effort to drive away the heavy feeling slowly creeping in, and forced their eyes to stay open as they leaned off of the couch.
"Well," Himiko chuckled, nudging Ajay over to one of the spare seats on the couch, "I guess that's enough of that for the day." She watched Ajay grumble something under their breath before the full body collapsed into a tight ball right between Ryo and herself with a big and hearty sigh.
"Aww, I really wanted to learn more about the sin of chocolate milk." Ryo dramatically pouted and scooted away from Ajay to give them more space, only for them to not move a muscle.
Grim poked their cheek, taking the poke from Himiko in return. Even then the sleeping teen stayed dead to the world without even a flick of the eye. "They really are knocked out, huh?"
"I didn' expect them to sleep in front of us that fast." Mammon raised a brow as tiny snores filled the silence despite Ajays body never relaxing. The teen was almost curled into a perfect circle, which was an impressive feat not even Belphegor had accomplished.
Ryo shook her head, "What a sugar crash does to a teen..."
With a shrug and a playful roll of her eyes, Himiko picked up the remote and scrolled for a bit before turning on a movie that got the approval of everyone in the room.
A girl named Meilin Lee began to monolog as Himiko's eyes drifted over to the still sleeping teen curled up next to her. Their hair almost completely covered their face and their hands were squished in between their arms and knees, almost like a cat.
...They really did have a red panda motif.
She had to remind them to pack a bag for Lucifers when they woke up.
And if Mammon snuck Ajay a cookie before they went to bed that night and solidified his place as Ajays favorite person? Then it wasn't anyone's concern.

AN: Ignore the subtle slip in of two very important things that I forgot to write in earlier. Excuse that this is coming out at 2 am, I just love these guys. Only good things for them always, especially Ajay =)

Bardic Insperation | Welcoming
Ceremony
Tumblr media
Notes - Feat. Ajay, Ariquel, Zangra, Lucifer, Daivolo, Barbatos, Mammon
Summary - The three exchange students finally meet each other, albeit to one's confusion, the other's exasperation, and the last one's last nerve.
Warnings - Strong language.
Tw - None.
[ Masterlist ] - Prolog
Tumblr media
"-and that should do it for this meeting." Lucifer announced.
With the exchange program right around the corner both Lucifer and Daivolo had been very busy. So much so that even Barbatos was impressed with just how much attention Daivolo had been paying during the meeting.
However, Lucifer had been going on for a suspiciously long time. And Daivolo had been suspiciously quiet as well. Although, between meetings, paper work, and speaking to officials, Daivolo had forgotten to tell his two friends that-
"You called lord Daivolo?"
"Where am I, and who are you-"
"What the hell is going on here?"
The exchange students were supposed to arrive today!
Lucifer stared at the three who had entered the room. He recognized Zangra, The purple eyed demon with mocha-like skin farther to the left. His hair had been pulled into a loose ponytail and his sharp gaze bounced in between the human and angel who had just arrived.
Barbatos' smile tensed as he glanced between the tall blonde angel and the shorter hazel eyed human as they both looked around the room in question.
Diavolo shot a kind smile to the disgruntled human and Ajay met his with their own blank stare.
"So?!" Ariquel demanded, "Care to spare a few clues here?" He placed a hand on his hip while the other gestured around the room.
Lucifer glared at Ariquel and readied himself to make a retort before stopping himself at Diavolos' demand.
The demon lord stepped forward with a beaming grin and made a grand gesture, "Welcome to the Royal Academy of Diavolo, or RAD for short! You three are part of the first ever exchange program between the three realms!"
Zangra tilted his head and glanced between the two next to him. "Pardon me your highness, but wasn't it supposed to be two angels? And what do I have to do with this?" He asked.
Ariquel grumbled something about disorganization and waved off Lucifer's glare.
Daivolo ignored the exchange and nodded towards Zangra. "Well, Michael figured that this could also be a learning experience for Ariquel! We also agreed to adding demon to the devildoms exchange program, to ease the devildom into walking with humans."
Zangra nodded along, despite the look of hesitance etched into his face as he glanced over Ajay and straight at the unpleasant angel.
"Demons- Angels- wait, can someone explain literally anything to me??" Ajay looked around the room with increasing confusion, eyes eventually settling on the to-tall-for-comfort Diavolo. Said demon lord was still smiling down at them.
"It's just as the letter stated! You have been chosen for a year-long exchange program that was created with the hope to reach peace between the three realms!" Ajay almost squinted from the brightness radiating off of the prince's smile as they nodded along to the explanation.
By the time Diavolo was finished explaining what they're all doing here, what the purpose of the program was, and what a D.D.D was, Ajay could swear their legs were ready to give out while Ariquel and Zangra looked fine.
Lucifer cleared his throat, finally making a noise for the first time in minutes, and gestured towards the door.
"One of my brothers will be here to pick you up soon. Mammon will meet you at the entrance to RAD and Zangra will guide you to the gate. I expect you all to try your best to make this a pleasant year and to stay out of trouble." Lucifer shot his gaze directly to where the blonde angel, who wasn't paying attention, stood.
Ariquel looked up from his nails and rolled his eyes, deciding to simply walk towards the door while grumbling under his breath instead of saying goodbye.
Zangra, on the other hand, bowed his head before turning on his heel and slowing his pace for Ajay to follow.
The human in question let out a big sigh before waving goodbye to the three demons and rushing behind to follow Zangra and keep up with Ariquel.
...
.....
........
"That blond one is going to be a problem-"
"Be nice, Luci."
Tumblr media
"I can't believe I got stuck on babysitting duty again. This time for real..."
Mammon whipped around as soon as a rush of footsteps met his ears. A frown almost immediately set on his face when he spotted the exchange students, who seemed to be in varying states of annoyance.
"So, Y'all are the new exchange students, eh?"
Ariquel crossed his arms and nodded, Zangra simply hummed, while Ajay nodded with a verbal response of "yup!" Unlike the other two.
Ajays annoyed frown at tiring out their legs to keep up with the other two, quickly faded and was replaced by a polite smile, "I'm Ajay, Ajay Sekiko! It's nice to meet you Mr. Mammon!"
Mammon felt a beat of pride and placed a hand on his hip while the other reached out and shook the mechanical hand, "It's nice to meet you too kid! Now, since I'm so kind, allow me to welcome you properly."
The Avatar of Greed took several steps back, stopping when he was right under the gate and all three exchange students had their attention on him.
He shot them a wide fanged smile before tossing up seven cards that he summoned into his hand up to the sky, laughing loudly.

The student council hall was silent. Every question had been asked yet no one had an answer. The burst of magic that night had been enough to shake even Lucifer to his knees, and yet no one knew where it came from or who had caused it.
A fight had been suspected, but there was no sign of damage that large to any location in the devildom.
Any magic that had been passed through the air had disappeared nearly without a trace, It was almost as if it never happened in the first place.
Whatever happened that night wasn't something natural. Yet it was something dangerous.
Tumblr media
Eight years later...
"The mission is simple. We break into the castle, examine the defense, and get out. Preferably without alerting too many guards."
Ajay looked up at the map that hovered over them with an analytical eye. It was a map of the castle with figures of guards and two larger circles that seemed to be Barbatos and Diavolo. They frowned for a moment before turning to their guardian.
Tanda had begun tying her hair into a ponytail while jotting down something that Ajay couldn’t see onto her notepad. The blue haired demon was dressed in a shoulderless black top and long black pants, her glasses were pushed up to her nose and pale skin almost reflected the blue lights hanging overhead.
She didn't look particularly dressed for a break in, especially for the castle of all places.
"Are we sure this is a good idea? Safe is absolutely out of the question, but the castle's security is nothing to be scoffed at." Ajay shot the map a neutral stare and crossed their arms, "They likely have charms and alarms on every corner on and around the castle. Plus-"
"Ajay, quiet."
Ajays mouth clamped shut the moment the order left Tanda's mouth, the mark on the back of their neck burned and the feeling of molten pressing down on their tongue wasn’t comfortable no matter how many times it happened.
The blue haired demon glanced at them from the side of her eye before scanning over her notes one more time, "I wouldn’t be bringing you on this mission if I didn't believe you could handle it. We won't be stealing anything and we won't be harming anyone who isn't in our way. It's simple."
Before Ajay could respond, Tanda pocketed her notes and turned on her heel towards the door, waving a hand as a signal for the child to follow.
Ajay sometimes forgot just how... big the circle was outside of their home in the laboratory. It was dark for the average eye, even Tanda had trouble seeing sometimes, yet Ajay could almost feel their pupils dilate as they took in what little light they could get.
The sound of feet against brimstone mixed with the low sound of flames and hollow souls to make white noise. The pride circle was normally quiet and orderly, so there wasn't a lot of noise.
"Tanda? What are you doing out this late?"
Ajay flinched and looked away from the river of souls, their gaze landing on their guardian who seemed to be caught in conversation.
"Just going for a walk." Tanda shrugged. The little D nodded and scampered away, presumably to go tend to a task.
Ajay scooted back to let the little D run off and disappear into the darkness of the circle. A childish curiosity to go and find out where it ran off almost had their feet leading them, that was until their guardian called them.
"Come on Ajay." Tanda snapped. Her eyes narrowed on them and Ajay quickly chased after their guardian.
The walk through the circles was surprisingly uneventful. Most demons just left the two alone with a few lust demons making small conversation, some even attempting to fuss over Ajay, which they didn't exactly... not like.
Tanda eventually started walking ahead of Ajay with the black haired teen keeping pace to trail behind their guardian perfectly. The half-demon sometimes cast curious glances around the circles as they walked, one was somehow both bright and desolate with many lakes scattered about, while another had bountiful food that seemed never-ending yet looked haunted in a way.
"Lady Tanda?"
"Yes?"
"Who do the castles belong to?"
Tanda went quiet for a moment before she stopped right in front of the portal that would take them to the castle.
"The seven rulers of hell, although there are currently eight." She explained, turning to face Ajay fully, "seven of the rulers have circles. The eighth has a place in the running of the circles. The lords and lady, from eldest to youngest, go Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Belphegor, and Himiko."
Before Ajay could ask any more questions, the portal snapped open and revealed the gate to the demon lord's castle. Tanda briskly walked forward, leaving Ajay to stumble behind to catch up.
The gate was large, almost three times Ajays height, and moonlight reflected off of its golden surface. Towers that were lit with a purple light, likely with watchers, loomed over the two. Intricate designs could be seen along the gate, but so could the magical charms that were set to go off if someone entered without permission.
Tanda side glanced at Ajay and snapped, causing them to stand up straight and go rigid.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" She urged. Ajay swallowed as they felt nerves crawl up their spine. They stretched out their metallic hand and a spike of yellow shot through their eye. They felt greed, fully and whole, course through them before shooting straight onto their arm and into their hand.
Ajays other hand grabbed onto Tandas, and their robotic hand grabbed onto the hands that were held together. Ajay felt their soul bend and twist to become something unnaturally different, yet they didn’t seem fazed. Tanda, however, barely suppressed the urge to kneel over from the need to hurl as Ajays magic dug uncomfortably deep to change her very core.
The blue haired demoness shoved down the nausea as she straightened herself, shaking off the uncomfortable stirring in her gut with a sneer. Ajay removed both of their hands from their guardian and took silent steps forward, stopping just before the gate to turn and see Tanda rapidly writing in her notes before nodding her head.
Ajay stepped forward first, their eyes scanned the scenery and they hummed. The castle grounds almost seemed... empty. There were barely any guards aside from the two they could see at the door. They would assume that guards would be on every corner of the castle, but maybe the most powerful demon didn't exactly need protecting.
Tanda watched Ajay think for a few moments before narrowing their eyes on the half demon, "Go, Ajay." She grumbled with a roll of her eyes.
Ajays gaze moved away from their guardian as they took a step forward. There was no way they were going through that front entrance, so alternate path it was. They ducked into one of the inner walls surrounding the castle and listened behind them for their guardian who followed in tow.
The inside of the wall was dark, damp, and barely lit by the candles along the wall. The sounds of their footsteps bounced off of the walls and echoed in a way that unnerved Ajay.
"Do you hear that?"
A guard, one that wasn’t alone if the barely heard reply was enough to go off of.
The sound of rushing footsteps rang in Ajays ears, their eyes bounced around the hallway for a door or something to duck into but came up empty. The only thing in the hallway were brick walls as far as they could see.
"Ajay."
Ajay glanced behind them and watched their guardian raise an impatient brow, the sounds of the footsteps drew closer, and just as the guards rounded the corner a strike of orange that shifted into pink and purple coursed through their eye and they grabbed their guardians hand.
...
....
.....
"I told you you were just hearin' shit."
"There was someone here!"
"Uh huh, should we check the magical signature? Because if we go off of that then there are three other people here as well."
"Huh..." Tanda watched the guards stride toward her without a care in the world. She glanced at Ajay, who sighed in relief and looked up at the lack of a ceiling. The next thing she knew a hand tugged her upwards and metal claws dug into the cement of the wall ledge.
Ajay grit their teeth and tugged Tanda upwards, careful to keep their grip on the wall steady.
As soon as Tanda found her balance, Ajay turned to look at the two guards, shifted their gaze to their mechanical hand, looked back at the guards, and snapped. The pink and purple in their eye faded and one of the guards stood rigid in their place, the other fell to ground in what Ajay assumed was terror if the clattering and shaking was anything to go by.
Tanda hummed with a tilt of her head as she looked down at the guards. She took out her note book and wrote something quicker than Ajay could blink before hopping off of the wall and striding over to a different entrance to the castle with Ajay right behind her.
The half demon kept watch as they walked, despite there not being much to watch. The walk to the door had been surprisingly easy, including actually opening the thing.
...Which Ajay was sure wasn't supposed to happen.
But they'd rather not oppose their guardian.
The castle walls were dim and lined with stone, a purple carpet padded their feet as they followed behind their guardian. Paintings lined the walls, Ajay didn’t know who any of them were, but they must have been royals of some kind.
Tanda silently led Ajay down the winding halls of the castle. Of course she expected it to be quiet, it was the middle of the night, but something was off. There were no guards, there were no staff, there were no servants, there was... nothing. Nothing aside from dark and desolate hallways.
At least, for Tanda it was.
For Ajay, the halls looked somewhat lively for how late it was. The shadows moved and shifted in ways that would probably unnerve someone if they hadn't been used to it. Souls of different shapes and sizes bustled about the ceiling, along the walls, in and out of the floors, it was quite the sight.
Ajay hurried along behind their guardian to keep up with the quickening pace. A certain painting caught Ajays attention out of the corner of their eye, a painting of three people. One had tan skin and fluffy white hair with blue and yellow eyes, the woman next to him had perfect pale skin and black hair with the same black eyes. They both held a baby in their hands and were looking down at them with an emotion Ajay couldn’t place nor recognize.
The longer Ajay looked, the shadows started to whisper, it looked something like-
"Ajay, stop your dwaddling and hurry up."
Something Ajay didn't have time to think about.
Tanda kept her attention forward and didn't slow down when Ajay stumbled to keep up with her before finding their footing.
The further into the castle Ajay got, the more Ajays mind wandered. Who were the people in that painting, why was the castle so empty, what was their guardian doing?
Ajay kept their eyes to the floor despite their ears picking up on nothing besides white noise that was occasionally broken by the sounds of guards or wildlife. From the sound of it, the prince himself didn't even seem to be in the castle.
Ajay sighed and looked up to see the back of their guardian, who was... running her hand along the walls. Her nails were digging into the stone without making any noise nor leaving any marks from what Ajay could see.
At least until Tanda stopped and opened a door that led to a giant moonlit field with tall bushes decorated with colorful roses. The garden floor was patterned with golden circles surrounding the largest one, which seemed to be a sitting area if the grass was anything to go by.
Ajay frowned and tilted their head as they stepped to their guardians side. Tanda didn't blink, instead quickly writing down something in her notebook, glancing over to Ajay, and then staring neutrally ahead. The moonlight cast a glare over her glasses but it was clear to Ajay that she seemed to be waiting for something to come around the bushes.
"Ajay."
Tanda placed a hand on Ajay's shoulder, causing Ajay to flinch and their eyes to snap away from the bushes. She cast them a glance just as the shadow of someone tall with skeletal horns slowly grew along the floor. And Tanda simply hummed.
"Get me out of here."
The sound of a low rumble almost rocked the floor beneath Ajays feet. It was low, demonic, gut-churning, and Ajay felt a spark of pure panic shoot through them as the figure approached, even as Tanda stood completely calm.
"I must admit, you are quite the curious one." The figure took another step forward, but not close enough for Ajay to see more than teal eyes and a thrashing tail.
"Not many souls are brave enough to break into the castle, but no one has survived as long as you two-"
Just as the teal eyed demon reached forward, Ajays eye flooded with yellow. Teal eyes widened as one of Ajays hands grabbed onto their guardian and their other slammed onto the floor, releasing a cloud of thick fog into the air and blocking the teal eyed demons vision.
The demon hummed and Ajay wasted no time in dragging Tanda deeper into the bushes to their left. Tanda stumbled for a moment and Ajay sped up at the sound of several other pairs of footsteps following them.
"Where did the guards come from-"
"Focus Ajay!"
The half demon hit a corner and darted, still dragging their guardian behind them. The yellow in their eye receded and over the sound of rushing footsteps they heard the mechanical whirring of their robotic arm firing up.
A shout came from ahead and the teal eyed demon from before rounded the corner and blocked the way with an exasperated yet curious glare. Ajay halted to a stop, their hold on their guardian kept Tanda standing, and narrowed their eyes.
Ajay blinked and half of their vision clouded with blue, their metal hand began to spark and Tanda glanced down with a raised brow.
The demons eyes widened ever so slightly and he lunged for the two. Ajay shoved their guardian away, content that they had already spread their magic, and Tanda barely stumbled away from the teal eyed demon.
The sound of multiple pairs of rushing footsteps alerted Ajay to other guards and they moved to grab onto their guardian as the sparks spread up her arm and over her body. The teal eyed demon quickly recovered and grabbed onto Tanda first as Ajay slammed their heel into the floor.
The sparks grew quicker and Tandas eyes snapped over to Ajay and they froze.
Tanda let out a low hum as the teal eyed demons grip grew tighter, and she mumbled one simple word. "Stay."
A paralyzing sharp pain shot up their legs and arm causing them to freeze in place with a yelp. Their eyes widened as they watched their guardian teleport away in a flash of sparks, leaving behind nothing but blue magic that fizzled out into nothing.
The teal eyed demon stared at the spot for a moment before turning to look at the half demon that fell to the floor. He cast Ajay a curious glare that they didn't meet.
Guards that quickly caught up tugged Ajay to their feet, they didn’t resist, instead they simply stood there, staring at the spot where their guardian had just been as the blue slowly changed to white.
A guard jostled Ajay into a standing position and Ajay barely registered the strain of their legs as they were forced to stand. They stood silently and kept wide eyes locked onto the spot where their guardian just was. They knew their guardians didn't particularly like them, they never really had, but to abandon them...
That hurt.
"What should we do with them, Mr Barbatos?"
The demon, Barbatos, dusted off his glove and stared down at Ajay for a silent moment.
"Take them to Lord Daivolo."
Tumblr media
""Place them in the dungeons until I decide what to do with them" is a weird way to put "You're being sentenced to execution for trespassing on castle grounds and committing treason against the crown.""
Ajay sat back against the wall and kicked a stray stone to the otherside of the room, casting a glance to the chain that jingled from the kick. Their arms were chained too, although those had enough leeway for them to at least cross their arms.
They had a strange bracelet on their wrist as well, something that Barbatos had given them two days ago when he first brought them into the dungeons. They still weren't entirely sure what it did, maybe something to stop their magic, but whatever it was they didn't feel a difference.
The cell was dark and damp, but there wasn't anyone inside with them. Even the cell across from them only had skeletons in them, and from what they could hear the same could be said for the cells around them.
It was silent, leaving them with nothing but their thoughts.
This wasn't exactly new, there wasn't a lot of noise in the lab aside from the mechanics and lights that buzzed. There was the occasional conversation from their guardians, chatty souls that sometimes stopped by, and other people that Ajay could hear from the lab. But it was mostly silent.
And yet this silence was different for a reason Ajay couldn’t place. This silence was darker, almost suffocating, reaching into Ajays heart and squeezing until they couldn’t breath. The shadows in the corners moved and stretched in a way that sent a shiver up their nerves and their vision started to blur.
"Stay."
That's what their guardian said. The pain was bearable as long as they didn't move, but despite whatever the red headed demon, Lord Daivolo if Ajay remembered correctly, did they still felt a weird ache in their chest that threatened to swallow them whole.
Ajay cared for their guardians, sure they didn't love them like those kids in the books they read, but they were loyal to their guardians since they raised them. But here they were, left behind to rot in a cell while awaiting an execution because their guardian just... left.
She left them behind like they were nothing.
Ajay brought their legs to their chest and squeezed into a ball. A knot built in their throat and an emotion that Ajay couldn’t place nestled itself into their chest and stabbed its claws into them. Their vision darkened and half of their sight was blocked by a thick inky black. They felt tears crawl down their cheeks and a small whimper threatened to pull its way from their lips.
They felt like they were drowning and a few souls from nearby laughed while others started to whisper in pity.
It wasn’t fair.
It wasn’t fair that they got left behind.
It wasn’t fair that their guardian just abandoned them.
It wasn’t fair that they were the one getting punished for something they never wanted to do.
The silence rang in Ajays ears for a moment, the urge to scream, shout, kick, and harm something overwhelmed them and their hands curled into fists.
Ajay took a deep breath in before sighing. Every rush of emotion they felt slowly faded away into a blank nothingness. They felt numb and hollow, even with half of their vision the only thing they could see was the walls of their cell. After all, it would've been useless even if they did do something, wouldn't it?
Despite it all, they at least wanted a chance to change something before getting executed, but there was no use in hoping for something as useless as that.
Ajay dug their face into their knees and tried to ignore the pain from the chains digging into their wrists. Decidedly ignoring the sudden chill in the room and the way the shadows stretched and coiled into a figure of a woman with horns and hair that floated behind her as she stepped as though she was wading through water.
"Of all the places I've been summoned, I can't say the dungeons have been one of them."
Ajay looked up from their legs with a flinch and a tilt of their head as the demoness stepped forward, casting a glance down at them.
"So, what are you in here for?"
"I broke into the castle."
The demoness stopped for a moment and blinked. Once, twice, then stepped further into the candlelight where Ajay could see her. She was the woman from the painting earlier, perfect pale skin, onyx eyes, and fluffy hair.
The lady raised a brow and kneeled down to Ajays level, eyeing the chains that tied down their arms and legs. "Really now? Someone as young as you broke into the castle you say? Was it a bad dare, do I need to call your parents?" She questioned.
Ajay glanced off to the side, they frowned as they felt the feeling of needles prick on their tongue the second they thought of mentioning their guardian. They shrugged and curled back up, causing the demoness to stand up with a stretch and sigh.
"Fine then, if you're not going to talk because you're embarrassed, I'll just ask Diavolo."
"No point, I'm getting executed anyway. And if not then my guardians are going to kill me if they find out I survived."
The demoness shot her gaze over to Ajay and frowned, "Executed- how old are you?"
Ajay looked up from their knees and tilted their head, "I'm fourteen?"
"...fourteen." The demoness mumbled, a small smile grew on her face and with a snap of her fingers the chains fell to the floor with a loud rattle. "Come on," she opened the cell door and beckoned Ajay to follow, "I need to have a little talk with Diavolo."
Tumblr media
Lucifer would have expected any one of his brothers to barge in on his date. Mammon, Satan, Asmodeus, any of them. But the last person he expected to burst through the door was-
"Oh! Hello Himiko! I see you've met Ajay!"
Himiko, with a black haired child in hand.
Himiko placed Ajay down on ground and pointed to the spot next to her before firing Diavolo an unamused glare, "So you must know why I'm here then?"
Diavolo cast a glance over to Ajay, who started to mess around with their mechanical hand, before nodding at Himiko and placing down his tea. He turned to Lucifer with a smile, "I hope you don't mind some extra company for a bit."
Lucifer raised a brow and looked over to Himiko, who had her arms crossed and her gaze set on a glare. He nodded and stood wordlessly before Diavolo gestured for him to sit back down.
"I believe this is a conversation for all of us." Diavolo said, gesturing for Himiko to sit as well.
Ajay stood still as they watched Himiko pull out a chair and seat herself. Everyone eventually turned to the half demon with varying looks of confusion, although Daivolo just stared at them knowingly. With a simple blink, he gestured over to the chair closest to him before waving to Barbatos.
"Barbatos, could you bring us some tea?"
"Of course, young master." Barbatos nodded and quickly walked off to somewhere further in the castle, not without giving Ajay one last subtle glare before he left.
"So," Diavolo turned to Lucifer and Himiko who both raised a brow, "I'm sure you have some questions?"
"Yes, my first being, why are you executing a child?" Himiko shot, gesturing over to the half demon in the seat next to the ginger.
Lucifer's eyes widened as did Diavolos. They both looked over Ajay, who was rubbing the bruises on their left wrist from the chains, before looking at each other and then at Himiko. The demoness tapped an impatient heel to the floor and nodded for Diavolo to answer.
"Well, they broke into the castle as I'm sure you know-"
That caused Lucifer to shoot a glare at Ajay, who shrunk back into their seat and kept their eyes locked on their wrist.
"-and since they're a bit of a magical anomaly, I had no choice but to lock them away and wait for them to summon you."
Himiko frowned as she thought back to the chains on Ajays arms and legs, "And how long did that take?"
"Counting today, three days."
Before Himiko could reply, Barbatos set down a tray of tea and cakes in the center of the table and passed around the cups and plates to everyone at the table. Himiko looked down at her cake before picking it up and placing the cake in front of Ajay, who only had tea in front of them.
"How exactly did they break into the castle?" Lucifer asked. He took a glance at the child with a raised brow, they were young, chubby cheeked, and flinched whenever someone so much as looked at them.
"That's the thing," Diavolo looked down at the teen next to him with a frozen over stare, "They used multiple sins and magical signatures to do it. The only reason they got caught was because their accomplice set off an alarm with her magic."
Himiko crossed her arms with a frown, "but aren't demons only born with one sin?"
"Yes, typically. And it's the same for half demons as well, yet they were able to manipulate multiple sins and magical signatures. They used greed, lust, sloth, envy, and pride alone when they originally broke in. Recently there have been high levels of despair coming from the dungeons as well."
Lucifer watched Ajay shrink back into their seat while poking at the cake in front of them, "And the accomplice?"
"Disappeared, seemed to have teleported away. She was a demon of envy, but that's all we have on her. Ajay won't tell us anything about her."
The table went silent for a moment and Himiko caught a glance of Ajays, now white, eye. When she first saw them they were doused in despair, as was everyone who had summoned her, but now that it had faded there was nothing left behind. Normally the original sin would be found somewhere underneath, yet there was nothing on the child that would even indicate they could use magic.
And half demons normally carried the eye color of their demon parent, yet this one only had brown and white.
Lucifer glared the child down and leaned forward, watching them flinch when they cautiously cast a glance upwards. A sharp sense of pride cut through the air and a light blue tint swirled in the originally white eye.
Himiko set down her tea and flicked Lucifer, forcing him back into his seat. "Well," she hummed, "what are you going to do with them? You can't execute a child."
Diavolo side glanced at Ajay, watching the blue recede from their eye, and frowned. He knew Himiko was right, not that he had any plans on executing them anyway. But he couldn't just let them run rampant around the Devildom, and they did still commit treason.
So there was only one thing he could do.
"They will be named the Avatar of Vengeance as a pardon for now and placed under house arrest."
Lucifer turned to Diavolo and raised a brow as the suspicion settled in.
"And whose house will that be?"
Diavolo turned towards the two demons, gave them a small smile, and crossed his arms. "Well, the castle is too big for me or Barbatos to keep an eye on them at all times and we don't exactly know where their house is. So, they're going to be staying with you two for the time being."
Lucifer frowned with bewilderment and Ajay glanced between the two with wide eyes. The half demon nearly asked why he was letting them go, but a look from the butler nearby shut them up.
Himiko stared Diavolo down and blinked, "...what?"
The prince gestured between the two demons and nodded firmly, affirming it as an order instead of a request. "Himiko can watch over them on the weekends and Lucifer can watch over them on the weekdays while taking them to RAD."
Lucifer pinched his temples with a long and heavy sigh, "And I take it we don't have a choice in this?"
"Well, Ajay?" Diavolo turned to the half demon who had locked eyes down on their lap and shrugged. They chewed on their lip for a bit before casting a careful glance upwards.
"It's better than dying..."
On the edge of their peripheral Ajay caught Himiko wincing at the statement while Lucifer went back to crossing his arms, a set frown on his face. The demoness stared the child down with a raised brow.
"Shouldn't we call their parents first?"
"It's best not to let anyone else know about this for now."
Lucifer grumbled before setting his expression into a neutral stare, "Yes Diavolo."
Diavolo looked around the table and stood with a clap of his hands, startling Ajay into standing as well. "Now then, since that's settled, it's currently Friday so Himiko will be the one to take them home."
Barbatos stepped forward with a small bow and a neutral smile, "If you would follow me, I will see you out."
Tumblr media
The walk back to Himikos house was uneventful. The streets were mostly empty and low chatter could be heard from demons they had passed.
Ajay kept their eyes to the floor. They rarely ever left the lab and had never left the circle of pride before, the stone streets were new and the lights from the stores were bright. The low sound of metal locking and unlocking filled the silence between the two as Ajay screwed and unscrewed their fingers.
"You don't seem like the type to break into a castle."
"Hm..?"
Himiko glanced at Ajay as they finally looked up, locking their finger in place.
"You're very quiet and nervous, not really break into a castle material." Himiko fully turned to face Ajay without stopping, this time catching a glimpse of a necklace that hung around Ajays neck.
"Oh, yeah. I guess so." Ajay slowly looked back down at their fingers, this time messing around with the claw mechanic in their pointer finger.
The demoness tilted her head and continued forward, leading Ajay to her home. The walk fell silent again, as they left the busy street and started for Himikos house the white noise fell away.
"So, do your parents always let you go out and commit treason on your own?"
The sound of clicking stopped for a moment and Ajay tilted their head, "Do you mean my guardians?"
"Are they your primary caretakers?"
"I think so..."
"Then yes."
"...no, this was the first time."
Himiko turned to Ajay to ask more questions, but the far away look on their face cut her off. A small feeling of despair welled inside her and she watched as a deep gray settled itself in Ajays eye, slowly growing darker and darker until it was pitch black.
She looked away from the teen, turning towards the elevator that led to her house with a grim nod, "...I see."
Tumblr media
The bed was fluffier than anything Ajay had felt before, and surprisingly wasn't made out of metal. Himiko had left them with a separate pair of clothes to change into for bed and socks to cover their feet after demanding they take off their shoes.
The window outside was also new, as were the stars in the sky and the moon that loomed over them.
It was strange, it was their first time outside without their guardians, their first time outside of the circle of pride, and their first time laying in a bed that felt like a cloud that would swallow them whole.
"Tomorrow my child is coming home from school, so that's who you're going to hear when you wake up." Was what Himiko had told them before pointing them to the bathroom and telling them goodnight.
It took a bit to get settled in, their nerves were high-strung and they felt uneasy in this new environment. They almost debated hiding underneath the bed in case the demoness changed her mind last minute and decided to kill them after all.
And yet they felt the draw of sleep tug on their consciousness the second their head hit the pillow and the warmth of the covers envelop them completely. They didn’t last long in the fight against their sleep and had one last thought before falling asleep.
They were happy to have some company, at least.

What if: Masked Event Moment
Tumblr media
Notes - No MC, angst? A bit of angst in Ajays section, headcanons, based off of the masked Halloween event, Feat. Gidorah, Luka, Candy, and Ajay
Summary - What would happen if my OCs were to have the cursed masks on and how would they act? Demon/half demon kids edition, because I'm bored.
Warnings - For the sake of convenience let's say Gidorah has on a cursed headband that forces a dragon to give in to their basic instincts. Not proofread.
TW - Demons being demons, talk of "hunting" and "prey"
Tumblr media
Gidorah:
- Gidorah only acts on their instincts in minor ways such as hoarding things their friends like to have presents on hand or hunting down random objects for fun. This child would never hurt a fly, so when that cursed headband gets placed on them, they'd hurt more than just a fly.
- "It's about drive, it's about power, we stay hungry, we devour-"
- Their magic mainly manifests in their claws when they're in their second form, so they're mostly just in a destructive rage. Completely opposite from their normal gentle and calm demeanor. But they aren't following orders or listening to anyone, they're just hunting. And if the treasure they're hunting just so happens to be the soul of a demon to keep in their stash or a human to eat, then so it shall be.
- Due to having wings, they're also mostly in the air and circling the area and won't land on the ground unless they're diving for their prey. So staying inside of buildings and underneath things would be best in this situation. Their hearing is still the exact same, but their eyesight is slightly better to spot things from higher up, so moving around is safe as long as it's quick and swift.
- They're doing all of this while dressed as a lady bug btw.
Luka:
- He's wearing a bunny mask for no other reason than Candy convinced him to dress up like a bunny vampire.
- Also this mf can PERCEIVE‼️
- His magic manifests in his eyes when he's in his second form so hiding from this dude when you're within seeing range is impossible. Not because his eyes make it so he can see through things or use heat signals, oh no no no. His eyes specifically look for weak spots. So this guy is able to see a weak spot on someone as long as they're within his range of sight. You stumbled your toe? This guy knows.
- Due to not having wings, he mostly stays on the ground. But due to having the ability to turn invisible, he is able to hide in plain sight, the only way to know he's there is by having the ability to sense magic or have an impeccable vibe radar. Anyway, this guy also takes pride in his friends and family, so if you see him you should probably know that he isn't alone.
- He, unsurprisingly, doesn't act like a demon all that often unless he's defending himself or he's fighting someone. Other than that, he barely purrs, hardly wags his tail, will not wiggle his ears, and does not growl. He's not expressive in the slightest. So when that mask gets placed on him, he is as silent as a mouse.
Candy:
- "Ding dong, I know you can hear me, open up the door-" She just sees it as a big game of hide and seek.
- She's also dressed up as a fairy, like Maleficent. So her mask is really just a full faced Maleficent mask.
- Also, earthbender.
- Candy's magic mainly manifests in her vine-like hands in her second form, but the real magic is when she manipulates her surroundings. She can make plants, rocks, metal, anything that can come from the earth, appear from anything having to do with the environment. She can make a mace out of a log of wood if she so chooses. However, this also makes fighting her rather dangerous as she can and will attack with nearly anything and everything within her line of sight.
- Due to having wings, Candy will often hover or fly to places to get there quicker. But unlike Gidorah, Candy won't circle the sky or area, instead she'll weed out her prey from the ground. Hiding from Candy is rather easy if you catch her on her own, her sight and hearing range don't change and she tends to hum to give her prey a chance to hide. The issue is that she's never on her own. Gidorah and Luka will always be somewhere nearby Candy.
- Unlike Gidorah and Luka, Candy is the only one of the three who acts more demonic even without the mask. Not to the point of actively causing chaos, hating angels, or picking on humans, but she's more open to playful mischief and play fights than the other two. She even allows herself to keep her sharp teeth and eye slits in her human form. So when the mask gets placed on her, it just gets cranked to eleven.
Ajay:
- "Close to me-" moment.
- They're also dressed up as the jellyfish version of Ursula, so their mask is a masquerade mask with led lights in it.
- Anyway, this child is DIFFICULT.
- Ajays magic is funky and can change at the drop of a hat or the snap of their fingers. But the real magic is the souls the magic is tied to, or vengeance. Their magic mainly manifests in two ways, the normal way where they can bounce between abilities using their arm, or vengeance where their power is sourced from the angry souls within them. They likely won't actually use vengeance or even go into their second form with the mask on, so they'd probably just resort to using whatever ability fits the situation. If they need to catch someone who's running then it's teleport time, if they need to confuse someone in a small area then it's smoke cloud time.
- Due to not really going into their second form at all, they'll stay on the ground unless they have to teleport to a higher area or climb up somewhere. They're extremely quiet and have very good hearing, which makes hiding from them or sneaking up on them a task and a half. However, unlike the three pact rats, Ajay is more likely to be found alone and away from whatever group they're with, so they're the only one to worry about.
Tumblr media
- Ajay, being the traumatized child that they are, never acts like a demon because they don't even know how. They just go off of their human side more often than not and their demonic instincts are entirely nonexistent to them. At least to their knowledge it is. So when the mask gets put on them, they’re likely freaking out and losing it inside and will be afraid of everything for a hot second afterwards. An extra bit of trauma for flavor.
AN - I randomly got in the mood to write for the gremlins, and had a brainwash scenario in my head which birthed this.

If you do get to know them, you'll find that they're actually rather talkative when it's about cooking or baking.
