Mortal men were envious creatures. It was human nature, of course, to despise what you could not reach, to fear what you could not understand. The children of Night Raven College were no different. Cruel and selfish, ignorant and incorrigible.

Malleus was a cut above the rest, a prodigy among the best of the best. Malleus was no stranger to isolation, to lone nights of wandering. Even among those who should be his own, he was practically a stranger. How could one connect with those around them when he was so painfully disconnected from everyone he met? Being at the top was a very lonely thing.

It didn’t matter to Malleus that he was alone, of course. How could the future ruler of Briar Valley, a king long awaited by many, be felled by something as trivial as a bout of loneliness? Malleus was above the petty fights and animosity of humans. 

Malleus had no need for a friend. Malleus had no need for an invitation on his table, Malleus had no need for a bright smile and someone to be pleased with his presence.

He found, however, that mortals often did not care for the whims of others.

Malleus had no need for a friend, but you had entered his life with the grace of a raging bull, sporting an ignorant smile and complete and utter disregard for the politics of his world.

“So, you won’t give me a name… Hornton, then!” You had proclaimed, grinning at him with a smile that would have blinded the best of men.

And the best of men you were, so kind even when you had been treated with nothing but disdain by the majority of the students you had come across.

Cold distance and polite words, stiff stance and detached apathy. None of this seemed to distance you from him. In fact, it seemed to make you do nothing but reach more. 

Malleus had no need for an invitation on his table. But you saw his walls, sky high and impenetrable, and struck them down with little more than a smile and an invitation to a contest. A contest you were the manager for.

Malleus had no need for a bright smile and someone to be pleased with his presence. But the grin on your face, unshakable and utterly overjoyed at his attendance despite the terror on the faces of your fellow contestants...

Malleus found that perhaps he had needed this after all.

━ I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve always viewed Malleus as juuuust a lil bit arrogant? IDK, with his sheltered upbringing and how the other people in the game treat him, I’ve always seen him as the kind of guy who’s not used to being told no ^_^” because who would tell THE malleus no? also if it’s not clear, he’s kind of unreliable as a narrator here?? lilia and silver and sebek DO care for him but i imagine he probably doesn’t truly understand that. I don’t really know how to write malleus, so this is good practice!! im doin my best

oh well, what's done is done, and now you know Kalim is SERIOUS about you

What none of you know tho is that Jamil overheard all of you

"Okay, maybe we need to scrap the whole surprise wedding proposal thing..." he sighs, making a mental note of it and preparing to dissapoint poor Kalim

you're a little wary of him considering his reputation but he hasn't done anything weird at all so... might as well accept his gifts?

one time he approaches you with jade in tow and you think absolutely nothing of it since they're together like 90% of the time anyways

"Hello there, are you enjoying your lunch?" he just sat down next to you without asking if he can at all 😔

"Uh, yeah, I suppose." you didn't really know what to tell him and it seems he doesnt know how to continue the conversation either so u just kinda... stare at eachother while Floyd casually steals a bit of ur food

You played with the tiny tsum of the housewarden by hugging it, letting it run around and feeding it miny tarts, the tsum was very happy and clinged onto you and wouldn't be so happy when you walked away to get something or do something. Riddle was sitting next to you on his bed. He kept on side-eyeing you and the little creature with angry eyes.

After the tsum fell asleep from exhaustion from playing with you Riddle walked up to you with a pouty look on his face and hands on his hips "Oh hey Riddle!" You gleefully said "What's wrong?" Your oblivious tone made him turn a bit redder from anger and blush from shyness "I command you to stop..giving that thing affection and g-give some to me too!" He shouted. Aww how cute you thought and then softly kissing the housewarden's cheek as his face turned as red as a tomato "Ehe next time you should've just told me that you wanted my love too!" You giggled at the sight of Riddle blushing "Hmph! I'll remember this! You teasing me..." Was all he could say before hugging you with a pouty look on his face still but it looked more like he was trying to contain his smile .

You visited Scarabia for some cooking time with Jamil, at the kitchen the tsum helped you out with everything, you needed an onion or knife? The Jamil tsum happily ran over to get it for you, when you were cutting or cooking something it would hug your arm making sure you stir or cut correctly but it just actually wants to stay with you. Jamil that was watching all of this started feeling jealous and even got angry so he decided to teach the tsum a lesson.

The next time you visit both of them and the tsum starts showing affection to you, Jamil did something reckless that he would never do it again, he grabbed you and kissed you on the lips. The tsum and you were surprised by the sudden kiss, the tiny vice housewarden squeaked and jumped on your shoulder trying to pull you back and Jamil pulled out from the kiss to look at the tsum with a " they're mine " look "I apologize for... suddenly doing that..." Said Jamil looking a bit shy yet cold like his usual self. You simply just smiled and said "It's ok!" Your also blushing so that's good ! But the tsum still kept on jumping around you.

During gaming night the tsum decided to play with you both too. The tiny thing kept on playing and always won and you always complimented it but Idia was getting pouty, he would cross his arms and let out a sigh as he restarted the game to try and win again but of course you noticed his sourness and you came up with a plan that was awesome.

You whispered to the tsum your plan: The small thing would pretend to fail the next game and you would reward Idia with a kiss! The tsum agreed with you by nodding and you gave it a small kiss to make it happy. In the next round the tsum tried it's best to play terribly and Idia was starting to be excited, he was smiling and looked even more focused on the game and finally... He won the game! He happily shouted out that he won but immediately went back to his quiet, shy self as always. You winked to the tiny tsum and went over to kiss Idia, his hair turned into a soft shade of pink and it started flaming even more "E-ehhh?!" He expected to be complimented like the tsum but instead he was rewarded with a kiss which shocked him even more "There! Now I've gave you both a reward for completing the game!" You said while smiling "I'll go back to Ramshackle now, goodngiht you two!" Idia sat there still blushing from what happened and the tsum looked quite happy too.

⋆ Being a celebrity was never easy. The public always having their eye on you, watching your every move. Having to make sure you look perfect, sound perfect, act perfect, all to maintain the image you have created. It can be frustrating, exhausting even, the lengths you have to go through for your career. Though the hardest part for Vil was having to be away from you, his love, his darling.

⋆ He never expected to fall in love until he met you, always focusing on his career. Now when he kisses someone, he longs for it to be you, picturing you as he closes his eyes. When he says sweet words to his costar, he imagines he’s saying them to you, unable to hold back his emotions as he gazes into their eyes, saying he loves them. With you, he was no longer Vil Schoenheit, famous actor. He was just Vil, the dedicated, hardworking man you fell in love with.

⋆ There was no need for masks, for polite words or fake smiles. You knew him for who he was, and loved him for who he was, not for his status or fame. With you he felt seen, he felt heard. The times when he’s had to train for a role, practicing to perfect what he needed to do, you’d be there, recognizing the effort he put in. Even when no one else would, and he felt frustrated and defeated, a simple text from you would make everything worth it.

⋆ Due to his work, there were times where he had to be away, traveling to star in a film or go to a photo shoot. During those times you would stay in contact however you could, through texts or phone calls. He would be sitting in his chair, getting his make up done when his phone goes off, a small smile coming to his face as he sees it’s you. Though he doesn’t have much time to respond, your messages brighten his day, giving him motivation. Knowing that one day you’ll see the film he’s in, or the photo he’s getting taken, makes him want to do the very best he can. He wants your eyes only on him, your attention focused on him and him alone.

⋆ He can’t help but feel proud in those moments, seeing you unable to take your eyes away from the screen. How you would turn to him, telling him in amazement how well he did, how much you loved his performance. Noting all the work he put in for the role, acknowledging his time and dedication. There was no one he wanted to impress more than you, no matter how long you’ve been together.

⋆ There were times when he would miss your presence more than usual, looking at pictures of the two of you fondly. During these times he would feel conflicted, wishing to hear your voice but not wanting to disturb you, a time difference separating you now. In a moment of weakness he would give in, his heart skipping a beat as you answered, sounding like you just woke up. He would apologize for waking you, tempted to hang up. You would reassure him, making yourself more comfortable in your bed as you talked. He told you about his day, how his work was going, how much longer he’d be away. You would listen, humming in acknowledgement as you tried your best to stay awake.

⋆ “You make me so happy, Vil” you mumble sleepily, unaware of your words. The line goes silent, making you think he had hung up. On the other end Vil stared at his phone, quiet as hidden insecurities took hold. With his career and fame you didn’t necessarily have a “normal” relationship, Vil keeping it a secret from the public. He wanted to protect you, to keep you safe, to keep you to himself. Were you truly happy with that? With him being away for long periods of time, unable to show you off as you deserved?

⋆ “…do you mean it?” he whispers, desperately wanting to take it back as soon as it spilled out. It took a moment before you responded, sounding more awake this time,

“There is no one I would want to be with but you, Vil. No one could ever make me as happy as you have.”

⋆ He shuts his eyes, taking a shaky breath at your words. You knew him so well, his doubts, his insecurities. How could he ever be with anyone but you, fall for anyone but you. You’ve ruined him, utterly and completely.

“There is no such thing as a happy ending if it doesn’t include you, my love. So stay with me, please. That’s all I ask.” ♡

Well, maybe he's not going to directly say "I love you and I want to be with you forever" just yet. He doesn't want to scare you away. So he's going to go for a lighter attack.

He'll invite you to his parties, to his homeland, invite you to go on walks/ruin exploring, and send you thoughtful letters (as he already does for Yuu in the game lmao)

He's also going to show up in places you wouldn't expect him to be, which tended to be wherever you were lol. While he'll look for more ways to spend more time with you, he also wants to help you with whatever task you have at hand.

As for words, he'd probably often compliment you and mention how much he admires you. And if you had low self-esteem? He would do so all the more. He'd be shocked if you had low self-esteem. He just couldn't understand it and he wouldn't stop until he got you to believe him. All his words would be genuine and true, he wouldn't flatter you falsely. He isn't the type. He simply would want you to see yourself the way he sees you- so beautiful and so worthy of love.

He will try to make his affections known as much as he can. He wants everyone to know that his eyes are set on you, so he's not going to want to be discreet about it.

Another massive simp right here! If Azul ever fell for you, he'd fall hard. I honestly think Azul would be second to Malleus on the simp scale LMAO.

However, unlike Malleus, he'd try to be more discreet about it and would try to put on a cool front despite the great ardor he's feeling for you inside.

Azul would use his acquired knowledge of you to his advantage, figuring out all of your likes, dislikes, preferences, and would make sure to act accordingly to them. (nevertheless, he'll still try to learn even more about you and your subtleties face to face. It was more pleasant that way)

The Mostro lounge suddenly came up with a specialty dish based on your favorite food? That's great! That means you can come on over there more often.

Are you having difficulty studying for a certain subject? You're in luck! Turns out that he's got some helpful study notes laying around and he's willing to give them to you. He'll even offer to help you study, saying that it's just a show of gratitude for being a loyal customer at the Mostro Lounge.

And your favorite color? Well that so happens to be the color of the napkins/tablecloths at the Lounge during the month of your birthday.

He's gonna try to act slick but it would be plain to see that he's in love with you. It would be especially obvious to Jade and Floyd as they see how Azul treats you differently. He's doing all these favors and little things for you without any practical benefit. Why?

If confronted about it by Jade or Floyd, he'll say that he simply felt like doing it "out of the goodness of his heart", or that the tablecloths needed changing anyway, or some other excuse. He'll honestly act like such a tsundere.

But if YOU confront him about it- now that's a different case. As always, he'll try to act all cool and suave, but if you thank him with the warmest smile on your face or even hug him, he'll melt and get all red.

On the other hand, if you tell him that you're suspicious of him, he'll be a little hurt that you think that he has some bad ulterior motive behind his actions (though, in his head he will admit that he couldn't blame you)

All he wants is to see you face all aglow when you see what he's doing for you. Pay him back with your happiness and that'd be enough for him (for now)

LEONA

He'll hang around you very often. He would think that his prsence is enough to get you to fall for him LOL 💀

Nah but in all seriousness, if Leona loved you, he'd show it through his patience and tolerance for you. We know this guy doesn't like being bothered or going through any trouble, but he'd make an exception even if you were the "troublesome thing"

He'll allow you to bother him to an extent far greater than he'd allow others.

He'll listen to you yap away about your day, any complaints that you have, anything you're interested in, he'll listen to it all while closing his eyes. You might think he's sleeping, but I can assure you he's not. He's taking in all of your words and storing them in his head. He's learning more about you this way while he can sit back and relax (quite literally). He also enjoys simply hearing your voice. It relaxes him. It's when you stop talking that he'll finally open his eyes and see what's gotten you distracted.

He will also tolerate your tomfoolery. Heck, if it interests him enough and it isn't too much of a bother, he'll join you. He will aid you in your plans to disturb the peace and you two would be absolute menaces to the other students of NRC hehe #partnersincrime

He'll let you run your fingers through his mane and let your touch his ears as much as you want. While you're enjoying the softness and fluffiness of it, he'll also be relaxed by it as well. You had no idea how you were able to get a man such as him to fall in love with you. He was clever, sweet, a great cook, and an absolute cutie... Ruggie was yours and you were his!

You had many flaws. You weren't very smart, you had tendencies to mess with people... The list could go on. Yet he still loved you.

It was a cool, autumn day. Warm colored leaves fell from trees, leaving the courtyard a blend of reds, browns and oranges. There were plenty students walking and talking happily along with one another, the smell of pumpkin spice wafting in the air. Though you were relatively uninterested before... He shivered with a loud yelp, immediately turning around to find no one there. You were hiding behind a nearby tree. You weren't hidden well of course, but Azul couldn't see you. He shook his head, sighing and brushing it off as the wind. As he continued to promote the sale, you snuck up on him again. You tapped his leg the same way as before, except... You weren't fast enough this time. He kicked you and hoisted you up with stern eyes.

"Do you understand how disrespectful you are?!" Azul screeched. He clearly disliked getting his legs touched like that.

You sputtered trying to come up with an excuse, panicking as you see the Leech twins starting to come into view. You squirmed as Azul held still and started walking.

"Excuse me boys, but may you help hand out flyers for me as i return this rascal to their owner? They were very disrupting to me, we wouldn't want that happening with to another," Azul had a slight pout as he continued walking. He muttered something to himself quietly before going into the Savannaclaw mirror.

Leona sighed as he saw Azul waltz up to him. "And how am i responsible for the herbivore??" He said with a tired look.

"Well, aren't they always over here? I'd assume it's because they have something with you?" Azul responded, almost annoyed with the fact he had to speak with Leona.

"No... You'd have to find Ruggie. He's— Right here," Leona groaned before returning to his room.

"Oh, hey there Az! Whatcha doin' here? And why do ya got lovebug there?" Ruggie commented on you being carried by Azul like a critter he finds dirty.

"I found.. er.. Lovebug messing with me during my promotion for the new Mostro Lounge sale... So you're the one taking care of.. this thing?"

"Aye, they're person, you know! Not just a 'thing.' But yes, i am in charge of taking care of Lovebug."

"I'll just hand them over already... You should really keep a watch on them. They're probably going to cause a big problem if you dont." Azul shook his head before leaving Savannaclaw finally.

"So... Lovebug, what was that about?"

You pulled out a to-go box of fresh food. Food you stole from Azul. A goofy smile spread across your face.

"Ahh... I see! I've trained you well... You deserve a treat for that!" Ruggie smiled along with you, bringing you into the kitchen.

"I know ya may not be tha brightest sometimes, but you're a sneaky lil' thang fo'sho! Here, ya wanna help bake some cookies to go with that meal?"

Riddle was a strange young man.

The sophomore was notorious for his attitude, a stickler for the rules through and through. If there was a law in place, it was unlikely the boy hadn't heard of it, even more unlikely that he’d fail to enforce it. The scourge of troublemakers and absent-minded peers alike, Riddle wasn't particularly liked for his firm ideals.

Teacher's pet, some would sneer, unashamedly bitter about their freshly-sealed magic. But the rules were absolute, and the queen’s declarations were not to be challenged. And when the Queen demands your presence at a tea party, who are you to decline?

Of course, for a student who hardly understood the etiquette of a tea party, it wasn't irrational to panic at the thought of a one-on-one encounter with the man who'd behead you without a second thought.

But what were you supposed to do? You hadn't exactly grown up with the fancy rules and etiquette of The Queendom, let alone the irrational additives of your housewarden’s favorite rulebook. Even with a year to pick up the rules, it wasn't as if a tea party was high on your list of memorization.

But the Queen called, and it wasn't wise to keep him waiting.

“Eat from the bottom of the tray to the top,” Riddle had scolded you almost immediately, batting your hands away from the strawberry sweets at the top. “It's impolite to do otherwise.”

“Look into the cup when you drink from it,” he chided. “Keep your napkin to the left of your plate.”

Rule, after rule, after rule, after rule… By the seven, you think you might just be going insane. For a man so strict, you would have expected him to snap already. Of course, his irritation was clear, from the way he nearly snapped the handle of his cup off, to his quickly tapping foot. But where he might have beheaded someone else, he just stared in... mild disappointment?

“You’re to meet me here again in a week, exactly at noon.” Riddle stood up abruptly, tone leaving no room for arguments. “We will be going over this again.”

… Riddle was a very strange young man.

"Hello." You heard a voice behind you as you exited the classroom. You turned around to find... uh, Hornton, was it? You still can't get over the stupid nickname that Grim picked, but he seems completely okay with you calling him that, so you keep doing it.

What could he possibly want with you?

"Uhh, hi...!" you greeted him back awkwardly.

"I have a somewhat trivial yet important matter I need help with." He opened and you tilted your head slightly. Now your interest is piqued.

"Let's go somewhere more... private." he suggested at your confused expression. You nodded slowly. Though this whole conversation is strange so far, he looks anything but malicious. And knowing him, he never is.

The two of you went to a more secluded part of the school and as soon as you got there, he pulled something out from his pocket, handing it to you. It looked to be a brand new phone.

"Could you help me with this object? I have no idea how to use it and you are the only one I can approach about this." he looked a little worried.

"Sure, what do you need help with?" you offered and his expression softened slightly.

"Turning it on, for starters."

A silence fills the room.

"Ahahahaha, oh jeez... I'm- I'm sorry- hahahaha...!" You couldn't help but laugh. He didn't even know how to turn it on?

Needless to say, he was not amused by your laughter. "If you will laugh at me, I will not be needing your help anymore." He crossed his arms.

"No- No- I'm sorry, I really am." You had to hold back a few giggles. "I'll help- I'll help you, you just shocked me with how little you know about a.. p-phone." He suddenly seemed like a 90 year old grandpa who bought a phone to talk to his grandkids and didn't know the first thing about it. What a funny mental image.

"You're talking strangely." He commented, and you quickly turned the phone in his direction before he could question your attempts at stifling a laugh.

"Here, see this button? You press it and the phone turns on, like this." You demonstrated, and his face lit up.

"I see. But, the salesperson informed me that this phone is unlockable by something called 'Face ID' as well. Do you know what that is by any chance?" The genuine interest in his voice was actually kind of cute.

"Don't worry about all that. Actually, why are you buying a phone only now?" You thought it was strange. If he was this clueless about technology, why buy a modern cellphone all of a sudden?

"During class, some of my classmates were discussing about these so called phones. They talked about something called a 'magicam'. And I... became curious." the little pause at the third sentence made you think that might just not be the full truth. But you have no reason to be suspicious or question him on it, so you just told yourself to forget about it.

"Magicam might be a little too... advanced for you right now. Here, let's start by exchanging contacts." You showed him the 'contacts' app, opening it and inputting your number and your name.

You handed the phone back to him. "Here, now press this green button on the bottom left and you'll call me." he did as you instructed and your phone started vibrating in your pocket. You pulled it out, answering the call.

"Hello!" you said cheerfully.

"I can... hear you twice. Is there magic imbued within a phone?" his eyes were widened slightly, even more so when he heard his own voice from your phone.

"You silly goose, we only hear eachother twice because we're standing right next to eachother. Stay here and place the phone next to your ear, okay?" you smiled at him, walking away.

"I am not silly and I am certainly not a goose. I thought it was obvious enough by taking once glance at me."

"It's not an insult, Hornton. It's like a silly little thing you say to someone when they say something, well, silly." you smile, now completely out of his line of sight and standing in a different room.

After a few moments of silence, he spoke again "I can still hear your voice."

"Yup, that's what a phone is, in essence. Nowadays we use it for a lot of things, but basically, you can call people on it and you'll hear their voice and talk to them, no matter how far away from you they are. Isn't that cool?"

"How very fascinating." you could hear his amusement through the phone.

"Oh, I just have one more thing to do! I'll come back in a moment!" you ended the call, running back to where you were before.

"I got suprised for a moment. The phone made a strange noise and I couldn't hear you anymore." he cleared his throat. He must have panicked a bit when you hung up. How cute. "Calling someone is definitely much more convenient than sending them a letter."

You just realised that he's probably been sending physical, handwritten letters to everyone up until this point which makes him even more charmingly old-timey in your eyes. How funny is that?

"Give the phone here for a moment." you requested and when he did so, you opened the camera app and turned it towards the two of you to take a selfie. You could see him inspect himself through the phone.

"I see, so it functions as a mirror, too. What a marvel."

"Well, do I have news for you. This is the camera app, and we're going to take a photo together. Now smile!" you nudged him slightly and he smiled very awkwardly and unnaturally. Oh well, you'll take it.

You snapped the photo, setting it as his lockscreen.

"Here, now you have a photo of me and you as your background!" he took the phone back, staring at your face on the screen.

"I actually have something I have to be doing right now, so I'll continue teaching you about phones later! Call me if you need anything! Oh, and I'll save your number too, don't worry!" You waved to him, running down the hallway.

"Goodbye." he said back, immediately looking back down at your picture with him. Your face is truly precious in it. He is very glad to be in possession of a photo of you.

He knew you were the right person to ask.

The reason he decided to buy a phone was that he felt sad because he couldn't talk to anyone without a disconnect. Ignoring the fact that most of his classmates are afraid of him, they wouldn't be able to find common ground in hobbies and conversation topics regardless.

So he thought that maybe he could start by getting a phone upon hearing students discuss phone cases and the like. Surely, understanding what the masses currently enjoy would make him more approachable.

He is eternally thankful to you for helping him out.

You're very welcoming to him and that makes him indescribably happy. One day he'll repay you with all the things you could ever want. He has the abilities to do that, after all.

Maybe he should give you something as a thank you next time you meet, actually. What did you say you enjoyed again?

That's what he thought about as he looked at his lockscreen on his bed that night. If only you saw the way he smiled at your photo.
