having a great time on this trip with my bf and his family to disneyland, but oof. i'm trying hard to re-parent myself, but it's hard not to feel a bit like i've been slapped in the face when every other thing we do would have been 110% out of the question with my parents (with a heavy helping of shaming/guilting for even asking to do these things). and his family's just like, oh this is what we do every time we come here.
his family's not perfect of course, but they're damn night and day to my family. and it's hard not to feel a little bit of pain with that

omg loved your blog. pls give me a lil spoiler of whats coming next
So... I've got a whole bunch of things coming. I looked through my drafts and documents and feel like this one is something I can share with you guys. I've got the story maybe halfway done and I've been working on it slowly for about 6 months. I don't know when I'll post it but you asked for a sneak peek for something so here's something to tide you over.
For context this is burlesque dancer!Y/n and rich CEO!Harry (this is a combination of requests I've received all in one story).
...
The sign read: 24-hour breakfast. $2.99 all-you-can-eat pancakes. The one she drove past every day.
She imagined slathering each stack with butter and syrup and surprising the staff when she went for seconds and thirds. Her stomach growled as she got into place behind the other girls and the music started. Bethany raised a brow at her when she heard it.
The routine was the same as the week before. They had a short break before they went back up and did another set. Y/n hadn’t been in such a good mood in weeks, knowing what was coming after the show. She was shaking with the anticipation of finally eating something of substance.
Like last week, the main dancers got to use the locker room first. Y/n and the others sat at the end of the bar and watched the guests leave as they chatted. They never got into anything too deep. Y/n wasn’t keen on telling the others about her situation. It was embarrassing. She was technically homeless and she was dirt broke. But Angelique had given them their checks and Y/n was more than happy to use it. She wouldn’t cash it that night because it was too late, but she planned on using her credit card to buy the $2.99 buffet pancakes. Maybe she’d splurge on eggs as well.
After showering and charging her phone she nearly skipped to her car. She parked strategically under a lamppost and noticed right away a man leaning on her front bumper.
“Excuse me?” She stopped halfway between the building and her car, ready to run back into the building if needed.
The man stood and she saw the chocolate curls of the British man she’d met the week before.
“Sorry! I thought I’d wait out here for you. I wanted to tell you that you did a great job in there,” he smiled kindly. That sweet smile, dimples and all.
Y/n let out the breath she’d been holding and finished walking toward her car. She figured she could trust Harry at this point.
“It’s okay. Just startled me a little to see someone leaning on my car. And, uh, thanks!”
She dug her keys out of her bag and walked next to Harry. He was taller than she thought. She hadn’t stood directly next to him before but now that he was only a few feet from her as she unlocked her car door she noticed it.
Harry pointed into her windshield, “I don’t mean to pry or anything, and you can tell me to fuck off if you want, but I noticed the blankets and pillows in the backseat. Is that… are you…?” Harry didn’t finish his sentence but Y/n knew what he was asking.
Normally she folded up the blankets and stuffed the pillows into the floorboards nicely but this morning she didn’t care. She’d been in such a good mood about the upcoming pancake dinner that she left it all strewn about.
She thought for a moment about how to answer. She looked down at her shoes and sighed, “Just temporary. It’s not a big deal,” she brushed it off.
Harry stayed quiet. But the longer he was silent the stranger it felt. Y/n looked back up at him and he was stoic. Deep in thought. Her stomach growled and she groaned. It was like if all the most embarrassing things in life could come out all at once in front of a handsome man it happened right then. She was hungry and homeless. That was the truth. And Harry was now aware of this fact.
Harry sighed and his face softened, “Look. I know it can get hard out here. But, let me buy you something to eat at least. I was hoping to chat with you anyway. Maybe we could just… I don’t know… get to know one another over a drink, or food. No pressure,” Harry was cautious. He knew he could be overstepping a little. But he probably felt it was necessary based on the circumstance he was now aware of.
Y/n shook her head, “That’s not necessary, Harry. I just got paid. I was going to buy myself something to eat. You really don’t need to…” The look on his face had her pausing her words. Harry’s brows were raised and the soft grin told her he wasn’t buying her I-don’t-need-your-help act.
“Fine. Then you buy yourself something to eat. Can I join you at least?”
And so that’s how she found herself at the dingy diner sitting across from Harry in a booth as she shoveled pancakes in her mouth. Harry ordered a coffee. Black.
Harry watched her for a bit as she scarfed down her first plate. Y/n tried to hold a conversation while eating but her body was on autopilot. She needed to eat. Harry could see that too.
When she finished the first plate she looked up at Harry. He was leaned back, comfortable in the booth with his arms crossed over his chest, an amused look on his face.
She licked her lips and sipped the orange juice before clearing her throat, “What?” She felt embarrassed. It was probably quite obvious to Harry what was going on.
“Nothing. Still hungry?” He smirked and leaned forward to the table, putting his forearms over the linoleum and clasped his hands together in front of him. He’d pushed his sleeves up to his elbows again and Y/n could make out the dark tattoos that went up one arm.
She breathed out a laugh at the question. Without a doubt, she was still hungry. She nodded, “I am. Yes. Is it okay if I grab another plate? Do… uh, do you want anything other than coffee?”
Harry shook his head and kept his eyes on hers, “I’m fine. I’ve eaten today. Go and get another plate, love. I’ll be right here.”
Y/n brought back another stack of pancakes with a handful of margarine butter packets and went to work to make her second plate as sugary, fattening, and calorific as possible.
“So, where are you from, Y/n?” Harry took a sip of his coffee, and Y/n saw him wince. She doubted the coffee was any good. Especially black. It was probably old and bitter and room temperature. But she appreciated that he was sitting with her and trying to fill the void of loneliness. Though she would have been fine to sit and eat her pancakes in silence.
“Bible belt. Nowhere,” she kept her eyes on her meal, drizzling the maple-flavored syrup over the top.
Harry laughed, “I see. Okay. So, why are you here in Nevada? Big dreams of becoming a famous dancer?”
Y/n shoved a forkful into her mouth and shook her head, putting her finger up as she chewed. Another sip of her orange juice and she finally responded, “No. I needed a change of scenery. I am a dancer. Well, I have a bachelor’s in dance. I’m not a professional or anything. It was sort of a whim, but a good one. There was nothing keeping me back home. What about you Harry? Where are you from? How did you get here?” She tried to change the subject from herself to him.
She ate while Harry told her his story. He was born in Manchester and got a business degree in London and then moved to California when he was in his mid-twenties after being offered a job at a private equity firm.
After a couple of years at the firm he and a close friend of his decided on opening up their own business, a startup. Which turned out to be quite profitable early on. Harry was a managing partner and owner of a wealth management group specifically for entertainment companies. Like burlesque clubs. Like Haute Baude. The owner, Richard, hired Harry as his wealth management agent years ago and they grew close.
Y/n knew next to nothing about the finance world so she just nodded and hummed along, “Wow. So, you’re doing well. A successful businessman,” she smiled and licked her fork clean.
Harry chuckled and tilted his head to the side, “I guess so. You’re impressive too, you know. It was brave to come out here all by yourself.”
There was a bit of quiet after he spoke those words. Y/n smiled down at her empty plate and then looked up at Harry. His coffee cup was empty.
“And you’re cute,” Harry spoke the words quietly but he kept his eyes on hers.
Y/n set her fork down and kept her eyes on the handsome man, squinting at him in question. She didn’t know how to respond. He hadn’t really been flirting with her, that she could tell, but she was aware of the way he was looking at her. How when she’d take a bite he’d watch her lips move and he kept licking his own lips.
“Sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that,” Harry said but he didn’t hide his smile well when he pulled his lips into his mouth, that reaction only drew his dimples in deeper and it made Y/n smile and laugh.
She shook her head and looked down. His eyes were getting to her. His intense gaze was alluring. Harry was charming and handsome. She didn’t know what his intentions were but he seemed nice at least.
When Harry remained quiet for a beat longer than was comfortable Y/n looked back up at him. She couldn’t help but smile back at his expression and she laughed, “It’s okay. You haven’t been obnoxious or anything. I just… I’m a mess and hearing that threw me off a bit.”
“What do you mean you’re a mess?” Harry asked.
“I mean, well, come on… you saw my car. And here I am buying $2.99 all-you-can-eat buffet pancakes at 2 am the moment I get a paycheck. I’m… down on my luck a little. But I think things are better now. For one, my tummy’s full,” Y/n smiled shyly. She hated that this successful man was privy to her misfortune, but he felt trustworthy.
Harry shook his head, “Not a mess. Just a victim of circumstance. Are you sleeping in your car tonight?” He raised his brows in question.
Y/n looked to the corner of the room and breathed out a huff of breath and pursed her lips as she nodded before looking back at Harry with a shrug, “Have nowhere else to go.”

Bacon & Bribery: A Hopkins Tale
Tumblr media
You know, @dr-colossal-pita, I really don't know what happens to my brain when I get your requests, and it can be argued that it's frightening, but hey - it works! lol Thanks for the ask, and I hope you enjoy this silliness. :) From this ask.
Book: Open Heart (prequel/Hopkins Years) Characters: Ethan Ramsey, Tobias Carrick Words: 600 Rating: Teen Summary: All Ethan wants to do is sleep as late as he can, but Tobias has other plans. A/N: This fic takes place during Ethan & Tobias's Hopkins years, before the competition soured their friendship. @choicesfebruary2024 - Philia (for both) and a little Philautia for Tobias lol
Tumblr media
The ringer on Ethan’s alarm clock went off, but its sound was nearly drowned out by the tortured moan he emitted the moment it started to buzz. Reaching over, he slammed his hand against the snooze button and rolled over. Nuzzled under the blanket again, all was right with the world, and a half-grin formed on his lips. He had everything down to a science. He could hit snooze three more times, allowing him just enough time to throw on his clothes, pour a cup of coffee, and race to his first and only class of the day. It was all clockwork. But this morning, something was different.
Ethan’s nose wrinkled as the savory scent of bacon and sausage wafted into his room. He wanted to stay in bed, difficult as that was knowing bacon was a room away, but if the processed meats couldn’t lure him, the singing... well, it didn’t lure him, but compelled him to wake and make it stop. Shuffling to the kitchen in a tattered old bathrobe and disheveled hair, Ethan rubbed his eyes to find Tobias cheerfully standing over the stove.
“Hey, Buddy!” he grinned. “Let me guess, you’re here for the bacon, right!”
“Well, I sure as hell am not here for your sausage,” he grumbled. “Let me guess? You’re trying to impress some poor soul lying in your bed? Is it one of the rare finds you want to bring back here more than once?"
Tobias, already dressed in a fitted back T and perfectly distressed jeans, turned to his friend with a playful scowl.
“Why are you so damn bitter, Ramsey. We need to get you laid.”
“I get laid, plenty,” Ethan spat, stopping Tobias mid pancake flip.
“E... no one who actually gets laid ‘plenty’ ever says they get laid ‘plenty.’ But enough about your non-existent sex life. There’s no one here except us, so what do you want for breakfast?”
“To go back to bed.”
“Fine!” Tobias replied, flipping a crispy piece of bacon into his mouth. “But don’t think I’m saving any of this for you.”
Ethan took a step away, but the virtual breakfast buffet spread out on the kitchen counter had him turning around.
“Fine!" he said ploping into a chair. "Eggs, bacon, and some pancakes will do nicely.”
“Coming right up,” Tobias snickered. “And damn, you really meant it when you said you didn’t want my sausage.”
Tobias burst out laughing as his friend sighed in grief.
“I don’t know if this breakfast is worth putting up with you.”
“Pfft,” Tobias smiled, placing Ethan’s plate before him. “You love me even when there’s no breakfast involved. Don't try denying it!”
“I don't."
Tobias leaned back in the chair across from his friend. "Keep lying to yourself," he chortled. “Oh, FYI, our 9:00 class was canceled. What do you say we take a ride down to the waterfront and make the most of the day.”
Ethan dropped his toast to the table, his jaw hanging open.
“You mean you knew class was canceled? And you're out here making breakfast?”
“Had to get you up, somehow,” Tobias grinned. “Come on! It’s a beautiful day! We should enjoy it."
"I wanted to enjoy it in bed!" Ethan spat, instantly regretting his words.
"Yeah, well, that has different meanings for you and me, my friend." All too proud of himself for irritating Ethan, Tobias laughed again.
“How can you even be this happy this early in the morning?” Ethan pondered as he pinched the bridge of his nose.
“It’s all part of my charm! You should be taking notes. Then, we could go back to that whole getting you laid thing... hey, where you going?”
“I’m going to get dressed. The sooner we’re in the car, the sooner I can put on the radio to tune you out.”
Tobias smiled with a snap of his fingers. “And just like that... I’ve got my ride to the waterfront!”

The Big Sleep- TDI x Reader story (ch:three)
If you haven’t read: Two
An air horn goes off and Leshawna shoots up, hitting her head. "Ow! It's 7:00 in the morning. Do I look like a farmer to you?" She shouts out the window. I tiredly laugh, yawning. We all get dressed making our way outside.
"Morning! Hope you slept well!" Chris greets us. "Hi Chris, you look really buff in those shorts." Heather feeds into his already major ego, fluffing him up. "I know." He winks, snapping at her. "Okay, I hope you're all ready because your next challenge begins in exactly one minute." Chris taps his wrist. "Oh, excuse me, I don't know if that's enough time to eat breakfast." Owen speaks up, clearly in distress about it. "Oh, you'll get breakfast Owen, right after you complete your 20 kilometer run around the lake." He announces, pointing to the body of water in front of us.
"Oh, so you're funny now?" Eva raises a brow. "You know what I think would be funny-" Geoff and Duncan hold her back from getting at the host of the show who's completely unbothered. "Eva, try to control your temper." Courtney whispers but gets ignored, "You're enjoying this aren't you?" She raises a fist. "A little." Chris admits.
"You have 30 seconds." He taunts, pointing at his watch. I just start walking to the lake, Cody jogs after me. "What?" I ask and he just grins. "Okay... then..."
We get into a line. "Okay, runners! On your mark, get set, go!" Chris yells, I start off with a slight jog, not completely pushing myself here. Cody of course keeps up with me. "You're good at this." He compliments and at this point I just feel like I'm good at everything with how many compliments I'm getting and I do not need to feed into my ego. "So are you, Cory was it?" i know his name but I like messing with people. "Cody, but you can call me Cory. You can call me anything you'd like." Hey says and I mentally curse then run faster. "Hey, wait up!" He calls.
"Pick it up people! If you're not back in time, you don't eat!" Chris yells into a mega phone just like he did on the cliff. Only this time he's driving past us on a moped.
I roll my eyes, running past plenty of others with a bored expression. I was on my school's track team, this is nothing.
Cody and I make it into the lodge with DJ, we all sit together, catching our breaths and cooling down. All of us sat silently to calm down. I throw my head down, waiting for everyone to fill in the lodge. "Clear the table stat!" Owen bursts through the door, holding a knocked out Noah. "Oh, we made it." Leshawna crawls in as Owen is doing compressions on Noah.
"What took you so long?" Courtney snaps at Harold who's gripping onto his chest trying to breathe in and out. "I think I'm having heart palpitations."
"Hey, wait a minute. If they lost that means we won the challenge!" Gwen says, everyone stops what they're doing to cheer, even Noah wakes up from whatever he was in. "Whoa there! Hold your horses, guys. That wasn't the challenge." Chris says.
"What did he just say?" Gwen squinted her eyes, but disappointment was cut short when curtains I didn't even see were there open to a whole buffet table. "Who's hungry?"
"After a whole week of brown sludge, I almost cried when I saw that buffet." Gwen admits.
"And then I saw it, the buffet table. It was beautiful. There was Turkey and Nanaimo bars and baked beans in maple syrup. Could I have a minute?" He then pretends to cry, holding his head.
Everyone ended up stuffing themselves. I got disgusted by all the chewing. I ended up only eating a tiny bit before leaving the lodge. I sat outside until I heard Chris talk about how it's a two part challenge. Some awake-a-thon and being the last one standing wins invincibility.
We're all sat out by the fire and I just feel bored, not even tired. Maybe because I didn't eat as much as everyone else did.
12 hours in, Owen went on about being up but not even seconds later passed out. I laugh, taking out my MP3 Player and earbuds to listen to music but it was really just to eavesdrop or be peaceful.
"The awake-a-thon was definitely the most brutal thing I've ever done in my life." Gwen tiredly tells the camera.
"This is the most boring thing I've ever done in my life." Gwen says.
"So my strategy is to get two campers to form an alliance with me and take to the final three. The only question is, who can I find that is either desperate or dumb enough to do whatever I say?" Heather shares her idea.
Lindsay's now doing a handstand and one of my earbuds is now out of my ear. Because even seeing this I do not understand what this blonde is doing right now. "What are you doing?" Gwen asks her, I thank her mentally because I didn't want to be the one to ask. "Trying to get the blood to rush to my head. I think it's working." She says simply. "Can I try?" Beth excitedly questions. "Sure."
I turn to Leshawna. "I wonder how they're gonna go out." I chuckle and she snorts. "Heather will definitely take care of that." We both quietly laugh.
Cody looks up at me and waves, I do a peace sign back causing him to tiredly grin. "What's going on between you two?" Leshawna giggles, nudging me and I try not my best not to laugh. "He has some stupid crush on me. It'll pass." I wave it off as nothing.
"I know like 4 people that got some stupid crush on that girl. Wouldn't say I'm surprised though. Did you see the way she effortlessly ran today? Amazing." She perks up but then catches what she's saying and then stammers. "I mean... like she literally ran that without breaking a sweat it seemed. That's crazy."
Eva gets up to go to the bathroom. I turn back to Leshawna. "Do you have your eye on anyone?" I play with the string of my ear buds.
"Nah, we ain't here for all that." She was lying. I could tell by the way she holds herself. I raise my eyebrows and she nervously laughs. "I'm serious." I put my hands up in defense. "Okay, okay." I whisper. "What about you?" She brings it back to me, which I should've known was going to happen. I catch myself glancing over to Gwen then over to Heather but I shake my head. "There's definitely some attractive people here but I don't know about crushing." I hum, leaning back on the wood.
Now hitting the 24 hour mark I sat with Gwen, 9 of us awake and 7 of the Killer Bass. Courtney's running in place.
Tyler screams, jolting a few people up. "Congratulations campers. You've made it to the 24 hour mark. Time to take it up a notch." He uncovers a pile of books as Chef was wearing a pink lamb costume and holding a lyre? "Fairy tales."
"Oh he's not serious." Gen says. "I think he is." I roll my eyes and Chris clears his throat, opening a book. "Once upon a time, there was inside this boring kingdom... a boring village. And inside this boring, sleepy village, filled with very boring children who did very boring things..." Next was Chef spreading glitter in a tu-tu dancing ballet.
Dj tied himself straight onto a tree but knocked it down after instantly falling asleep. "Timber!" Gwen yawned.
Now at the 40 hour mark, 4 Killer bass and 7 of us remained. I'm not lying in front of Gwen. My limbs sprawled out. We're five now as Beth and Lindsay pass out.
"Okay, favorite song?" Gwen asks me, and I think for a minute. "Breaking dishes." I stretched then sat up. "Favorite color?" I ask. "Midnight blue, yours?"
"The rainbow, I couldn't pick any color then the others would be left out." I rant a little bit and Gwen awes at my answer right before yawning. I sprung into slight action, getting onto my knees and ankles shaking her jokingly. "Don't fall asleep. Okay, quick. Favorite movie moment?" I question her.
"You're gonna think it's cheesy." She says and I chuckle. "I might but hey mine's probably stupid." I assure her... kind of. "You might?" She laughs, "I gotta be honest." I smile as we both calm our laughter. "But seriously, no judgment here." I put my pinky up and she links hers with mine. "Okay, the kiss at the end of that road-trip movie. You know the one with the guy and the three girls?" My jaw drops. "Really? I love that movie." I gasp, grabbing onto one of her hands. "No way, people always call that movie stupid." And as I went to say something in response a naked, sleepwalking Owen walked in front of us.
Our eyes widen sharply before following over to see his clothes laid out on the ground.
"Did I mention that I ate the entire dish of baked beans and maple syrup? Funny thing about baked beans, they make me sleepwalk." He awkwardly informs the audience.
Gwen was now laying on her stomach as I stayed sitting up. "Wow, they sleep together too." I laugh and she tiredly smiles. "Even though this is to go all the way to just one person I hope we make it to the end together." Gwen yawns, I stare up at the sky humming in agreement. But if I'm being truly honest I know I can't get too attached to anyone. At the end of the day this is 100,000 dollars on the line.
Now we're both watching the stars, laying flat on the ground, her pinky linked with mine. "Are you awake?"
"Yeah, it's weird but I think I'm so tired that I'm not tired anymore. Does that make sense?" She explains, I yawn once again causing her to yawn too. "Definitely, but we can get through this. Think of how good not being eliminated will feel." I remind her. "True."
We then look for constellations again and really I'm just listening to her talk. It was quite soothing but as I'm listening I look around at the others. I notice Heather alone and staring at me. Since she's so tired her reflexes were slow so I caught it before she looked away. I smile to myself. "You still there, [Name]?" Gwen wiggles her pinky and I chuckle. "I'm right here." I assure her.
At 51 hours Gwen and I are now standing and watching Justin not moving, in some weird pose. "Look at him, he's like a statue. He hasn't moved in over 50 hours." Gwen points out and we both yell at him, making random noises but he doesn't even falter. "Amazing, look at the concentration." She compliments but I stare at him closely, rubbing the back of my neck once I realize his eyes are painted. "Aren't his eyes blue? Like menacingly blue?" I quiz, waving a hand in his face but Gwen actually pokes him in the cheek. His head shakes and his real eyes open. We both gasp. "
"His eyelids are painted, I saw it!" Eva calls. "Shut up! Oh, I've got to see this." Chris laughs, sprinting to Justin who smiles nervously, knowing he's just been caught. "That is so freaking cool," Chris admits. "But you're still out, dude." He walks away, the model slumps sadly.
Hours pass, hitting 84 and I don't even understand how we're making it this far. It's all worth it though to see Noah spooning Cody, kissing his ear. The two wake up screaming.
Now it's up to Gwen, Heather, Trent and I. "i'd kill for a coffee right now." Gwen tells us, I nod bringing my knees to my chest. I sat in front of Heather, besides Gwen. "What is the matter with you people?" Chris comes up to us with a coffee in hand, sipping it quite loudly. "Come on, fall asleep already," He whines.
Gwen crawls to his knees. "You gotta hook me up man. I'll even eat the grinds." She pleads with the annoying host. "All right, you six stay with me. The rest of you go and get a shower, for heaven's sake you stink!" He orders the losers and I sigh wishing I was them right about now.
"I didn't want it to come to this. I said that to Chef Hatchet last night. I said, "Chef, I don't want it to come to this." But darn it, these campers are tough. And so I've come up with the most boring, sleep inducing activity I can find." Chris announces to the camera or the audience- whatever. I'm too tired to think.
"Oh, Come on. What now? Okay, you know what? Bring it on." Gwen places her hands on her hips.
"The history of Canada." The red covered book pops open. "A pop up book." It was a beaver. "Chapter on: The Beaver, national symbol and a "dam" fine hat." He reads, we all groan but I can feel my sleepiness really kick in. Eva fell asleep and so did Heather.
Trent starts to fall back, Gwen and I try to save him but it is too late. "Damn." I shake my head.
"Time for a bathroom break. Any takers?" He asks us three.
"I've held it this long, Mouse and Sweetheart." I wince as he holds himself. "I can go all day." He tells us. "Yeah but can you hold it for ten more chapters?" Gwen Crosses her arms. That gets him to get up and make his way to the bathroom. "You've got 5 minutes." Chris tells the bad teen. "Long as you don't mind a little company." Chris adds the last part. "Fine but stay out of the stall." Duncan snaps at the camera man who nods his head.
Gwen and I sit down and she sighs. "I don't know how much longer I can do this." She groans. "Keep it up, Gwenny. You got this." I rub her arm and her face turns pink. "You too."
A cameraman gives Chris a paper. "We have news! It looks like Duncan's taken a dive on the can, which means the official winners of the awake-a-thon are Gwen-" She goes to fall face first to the ground but I catch her, bringing her up into my arms. "And [Name]!"
"The Screaming Gophers win!" Chris holds up our weak hands.
I stand up, throwing Gwen over my shoulder and carrying her to our cabin with as much strength as I can muster. Gripping onto the railing to steady myself up the stairs as she's knocked out cold. I whimper up the final stair, bursting in through the door and lying her down on her bunk before I end up collapsing on the ground, instantly falling asleep on the hardwood floor.

tta episode 10
“Last time, on Total Takes Action: our remaining contestants competed in a detective noir themed challenge to uncover a secret traitor within their very midst. Scary went bananas… again, and Scruffy got served a heaping dish of steaming hot reality. O was accused of the crime, but it was Max’s secret detective skills that pulled through and uncovered the real imposter… Fren! Or should I say Alistair, award-winning theater actor? Unfortunately for him, the Gilded Chris was not an award he won, and he was sent off the silver screen and back to the stage. Is anyone who they say they are? Find out now, on Total! Takes! Action!”
The craft services tent is dreary and quiet today, not a hint of conversation or comradery between the remaining contestants.
Scruffy is seated far away from Scary, jogging in place in the corner of the tent. Scary is ignoring them, flipping through their notes and making additions and addendums. Max is reading something, his brow furrowed in concentration, O is busy spooning the morning breakfast slop, and Peter is sitting awkwardly by himself on the vacant end of the table.
---
PETER: “Ever since Fren- sorry, I mean Al- left, it’s been dead quiet around here. Everyone left hates each other! Not only that, but since my last friend left the island… I’ve been completely alone.. I think this might be the first time I've spoken out loud in a week!”
---
O coughs. Scary wipes her nose on her lab coat sleeve. Peter looks like he’s about to pop a blood vessel.
Finally, the intercom crackles, and he breathes a sigh of relief.
“Goooood morning, campers! If you’ll all join me in front of the craft services tent, we have a special treat for you today!”
Scruffy raises an eyebrow. “But- our next challenge is supposed to be-”
“Don't wet yourselves with terror just yet- this is not a challenge! Just for fun! And ratings!”
Scary rolls her eyes and snaps her notebook shut, walking outside with the rest of the cast. Only Scruffy lags behind, apparently disturbed by the sudden change in structure.
"Do you really believe it's going to be nothing?" Peter asks Scruffy, tailing alongside them.
"Um... I guess... I mean, Chris works by a schedule, but he can be pretty unpredictable," the neon lime wonders aloud. "Maybe he'll invite us to a cozy dinner and drug us, and we'll wake back up on the island..."
Scruffy sighs dreamily while Peter quivers in terror.
---
SCRUFFY: "I haven't been on top of my game this season, and it's really making me miss the island. At least then I could predict what was coming... now, it's like Russian roulette with a fully-loaded barrel!"
---
Chris is standing with an unfamiliar camera crew right outside of the tent, chatting about shot lists and lighting. As the campers shuffle outside, he turns with a big smile. He’s wearing an odd pair of square glasses and a beret today.
“Good morning, treasured and beloved children,” Chris speaks in a pleasant, soft tone. Behind him is a massive buffet loaded with every breakfast food imaginable- eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes and waffles of every variation, croissants, jams and butters and chocolate spreads, with pitchers of fresh squeezed orange juice lining the table-cloth covered surface. Chef is at one end of the buffet, setting down tiny plates and toothpicks, covered in bacon grease and sweat. “Did you all sleep well? Ready to enjoy your nutritious breakfast?”
The campers halt, looking between each other as if no one is quite sure if this is a mirage or not, like an oasis on the desert. Scruffy silently pumps their fist in the back.
Finally- “Did you hit your head or what?” Max asks bluntly.
The host chuckles back. “Of course not,” he turns to the crew behind him. “The children get three vitamin-packed, nutritious meals every day. We have our own personal chef on standby, so everything is made fresh.”
Chef waves from the end of the table, little flecks of bacon grease flying off his fingers.
“I’m pretty sure there was a cockroach in the oatmeal this morning,” O mumbles to Max. He nods.
Chris looks back to the campers. “Today we have a very special treat for you all. I’ve canceled the mindfulness and meditation, so you all better give your full attention to the very nice people from Reality, Weekly,”
Scruffy gasps. The campers look between each other, still in a shocked silence, now even more confused than before. Finally, Scary clears his throat. "Um, who?"
"WHO?!" Scruffy shouts from behind them, right into her ear. She claps her hands around her head and glares.
---
SCRUFFY: “Reality Weekly?! THE Reality Weekly?! North America and selective European countries’ number one reality TV gossip mag?! THEY RAN THE DUNCNEY VS. GWUNCAN STORY FOR YEARS! This is the most exciting day of my life, oh my God- I was right, staying in the game is WAY more important than 50 million dollars!”
---
“Can we get Nadie on set?” a stagehand yells. Two production assistants set up some chairs inside the trailers as the cast looks on.
"Make sure to be veeeery nice for the lovely television producers, and I'll see you all at your gourmet dinner tonight," Chris clasps his hands together and strains his words, trying to convey one thing to the remaining campers- behave. "Anyone who doesn't want to participate will see Chef in the, um... meditation tent."
The campers turn to see Chef sharpening a fish hook by the buffet. Chris wishes them good luck and walks off with a few sharply-dressed producers.
"This is such [CENSORED]," Scary sighs.
"I knew it was a challenge..." Peter grumbles, taking a seat on the grass by the buffet table and dejectedly peeling an orange.
"Does this mean we're not getting drugged?" Scruffy pouts. "No matter- I've been preparing for my Reality, Weekly interview since I was six years old!"
They take a seat next to Peter, crossing their legs and smiling. "I used to practice in front of the mirror before school- of course, in those interviews, I was giving my winner's speech... but this is alright, too,"
Peter splits the orange in half and gives one handful of slices to Scruffy. "Did you always want to be on TV?"
"Oh, yes. I've known for years that Total Drama is my home!"
Scary coughs in the back. "Loser!"
Max elbows her and she lunges at him. Their growls and his screeches fade out as she chases him across the lot. Scruffy turns back to Peter. "What did you want to do?"
"Oh, a lot of things," Peter nods. "Doctor, psychologist, research scientist, teacher... people say I have a real knack for helping."
Scruffy makes a face. "Has helping people ever gotten you anywhere?"
Now it's O's turn to elbow him. He frowns disapprovingly and turns to Peter. "Well, I think that's wonderful, Peter. Maybe we can be therapists together!"
"Maybe!"
Scruffy rolls their eyes and shakes their head sadly. "Just not cut out for this game..."
The sound of a door opening catches the attention of the remaining players and they turn towards their sides. A young person dressed in a purple tank top and black pants comes out from the impromptu production tent set up outside the craft services tent, adjusting a lav mic and grinning widely.
“Okay, who’s first?” they ask, flipping their braids over their shoulders.
The campers look between each other. One tiny voice pipes up from the back of the crowd. “Ooh, me! Me!”
The interviewer ignores Scruffy and sighs, tapping their chin. “How about… Max. We have a lot of questions for him,”
Max screams from far away as Scary catches him.
"Can someone get him for me?"
---
The camera adjusts and focuses on Max sitting in front of a wall, the space cleared out for the interview. Nadie remains behind the camera, clearing their throat. “Good morning. I’m Canada, but you can also call me Nadie, if you want,”
“Your name is Canada?”
“Nadie for short. Shall we begin?”
---
NADIE: “Okay, so when I got this internship at Reality Weekly six months ago, I was so totally not expecting to get sent out to Toronto to interview the Total Takes cast- this is like a dream come true! My supervisor Sierra picked me specifically, because I’ve already seen all of Total Takes Island- five times!”
---
Nadie tries to contain the smile in their tone as they begin. “So, Max- what’s it like being back on the show?”
“Terrible,”
“Last episode, you said that you only came back to see your girlfriend, Michela- now that she’s gone, do you still want the money?”
He shrugs. “It couldn’t hurt. Might as well try while I’m still stuck in this hell hole,”
---
Outside the trailer, Scary, Scruffy, O, and Peter wait on the grass. A shaky, handheld camera records them, and Scary glares at it.
“What, like we aren’t being recorded all the time on this damn set?”
The cameraman doesn’t respond. She groans and stands, walking back to the craft services tent. The camera turns and follows her, stopping every time she turns around.
“Would you BUZZ OFF!” she finally yells, storming into the tent and zipping the flap behind her.
Scruffy runs in front of the camera. “You can film me! Look at me! I loved your guys’ exposee piece on Sugar!”
The camera turns away.
---
Max walks out of the trailer in a few minutes, and O is called in.
The former walks past Peter and Scruffy waiting outside and locks himself in the communal bathroom. Scruffy groans in agony.
"This is torture! No one here even cares... do you know how special being on Total Drama is? It's hard, yes, but... we're making history! We have fan clubs, people speculating about us and our relationships, magazines running stories on us... what part of that doesn't sound amazing?!"
"Um... all of it," O grumbles, sitting criss-cross in the grass while snacking on a baby muffin. "Is that really why you came here? To get famous?"
"Not really. I just wanted to... you know, experience it for myself," Scruffy sighs. "Why'd you come?"
"My therapist recommended it, thank you very much," he responds curtly. "And I think this place is a petri dish of potential clients in the future. After this season is done, we can start doing group therapy!"
"Geez, and you think I'm weird for obsessing over the show," Scruffy rolls their eyes. "But at least we can agree on one thing-"
O nods. "People here are crazy,"
---
“I guess meeting everyone has been fun,” O says, tapping his chin. “Peter is pretty chill, Scruffy is… um… I’ll pass on that. Max has his moments, but I see a lot of love in him, deep down,” O puts a hand over his heart. “Just the way he looks at Michela tells me that behind all that nerdy superiority, he’s got a good heart. Scary is a black tar pit of nothingness and she might’ve been forged in the depths of the sun.”
---
The camera films through the mesh craft services tent window as Scary sticks another fork in the wooden table at the center of the tent and digs it deep into the pliable surface. She takes out a rubber band and pulls it apart, creating a long, rubber string. They tie one end to one fork, and likewise to the other, then pulls it back with a small pebble.
She grins as she releases the elastic and it flies across the tent, straight into the camera lens.
---
SCARY: "What? I've been making some good progress here, and after last episode, I'm not taking any chances letting the wrong people see what I'm cooking up," they hold up their notebook and grin. "They'll see. They'll all see!" she laughs maniacally and then coughs. "But, as much as I hate to admit it, losing my assistant has taken me a step back. A scientist is only as good as their word, and in most cases, their word needs to be excessively reviewed and re-reviewed."
---
Scruffy runs a lap around the filming trailer, then another. Peter gets called inside and O walks out, stretching and retreating to the other trailer.
---
“Scruffy is… well… they’re an enigma, let’s say that,” O scratches his chin. “They may be too far gone for even me to help.”
---
“I almost feel bad for them,” Peter says, hands in his lap. “They’re straining themself so hard, and I can tell when someone is about to snap…”
---
“Another formidable opponent lost to the insanity of Total Takes,” Max shakes his head. “A damn shame.”
---
"Wasted potential," Scary flicks a dustball off their lab coat.
---
Peter sits in the designated chair against the chosen backdrop, fidgeting nervously.
“You doing alright, Peter?” Nadie asks, adjusting his lavalier mic and then stepping back. He nods sheepishly. “If you insist. First question… what’s it like making it this far in the game after being dropped so early from the competition in the first season?”
“Scary,” he says immediately. “Even scarier now that Fren is gone.”
“Were you two good friends?”
“He was nice to me,” Peter mumbles. “No one is nice to me… I mean, just off the bat.”
“How do you feel about Max’s influence over his elimination?”
“What do you mean?”
Nadie scratches her chin awkwardly. “Well… if he’d never been exposed, he’d still be here,”
Peter looks at his feet. “I guess I’ve… never thought about it that much…”
---
O rifles through a bag of chips from the kitchen, watching Scruffy pace back and forth and murmur to themselves like a madman. Scary joins O, hands on their hips as they watch the display.
“Pathetic,” she sighs. “Oh, well. I suppose they were always a ticking time bomb. Say, O… you have any experience in chemistry?”
“Only in the chemicals of the mind!”
“Nerd!” Scary shouts, walking away. “Have to do everything my damn self around here…”
Max steps out of the bathroom, looking back and forth. The camera zooms in on him as he walks out, exhaling.
“Boo!”
He screams and leaps as Scary shouts in his ear. She chuckles and watches him blush and regain his composure. “Was that necessary?”
“No. That’s why it’s fun,” she smiles. “Hey, you’re a smart guy, right?”
“Maybe. Who’s asking?”
“I need a second opinion,” Scary pulls out her notebook. “Some peer review, if you will. Scruffy has obviously fallen off the deep-end, and I have some ideas to bounce.”
“What, your parole officer busy this week?”
“You and I both know I’m above the law. What do you say? I’ll give you a fraction of the profits if I’m right… 10%?”
“25%”
“20%, and that’s my final offer,”
“Deal. Twenty it is,”
Scruffy trips on a pebble and wails on the ground, rocking back and forth in front of them.
---
“Peter is…” O starts, looking up.
---
“A pushover,” Max scoffs.
---
“A good guy, but not Total Takes material,” Scruffy nods. "Poor guy is going to get eaten alive..."
---
“Look, there’s nothing wrong with him, he’s just so milquetoast,” Max rolls his eyes. “Still, I wouldn’t mind making it to the finale with him. For obvious reasons.”
---
Peter sits in the craft services tent, biting his nails and glancing over to Max every few minutes. He’s busy rifling through a few of Scary’s notes, looking up every few seconds to make sure no one can see what he’s doing. The camera zooms in on the papers nonetheless.
Peter turns to O. “Can I get some advice?”
“What?” O yawns, leaning on his elbow. “Oh, yeah, sure! What’s the deal- GAD? SAD?”
“Um… I just want your opinion on something. You know, like a friend,”
O raises an eyebrow.
---
O: “I guess it’s just kind of… weird… having people want to talk to me like a friend… I’ve never had a friendship that existed outside of impromptu therapeutic discussions and mutual validation, you know?”
---
“If there was someone who… ruined a friendship for you… would it be right to be angry at them?” Peter asks, looking at his lap nervously.
“Anger is a secondary emotion, if we can get to the root…” O slows down, then sighs. “Yes. Yes it would be right. In fact, I’d be even angrier! If I got to actually keep a friend, and then someone else ruined our friendship, I’d be furious!”
“Really,” Scary scoffs from across the table, peering over her notebook. “Mr. Cool Therapy, that’s not good client advice.”
“I’m not a therapist,” O crosses his arms, matter-of-factly. “I’m not licensed, after all. It’s illegal to impersonate a doctor. We’re talking… as friends!”
“Whatever,” she sighs, returning to her notes.
---
“O is… whatever, I guess,” Scary crosses her arms. “Not worth my time.”
---
“He’s fine. Michela liked him enough,” Max sighs. "She does have astronomically bad taste, though... wait, what does that say about me?"
---
Nadie steps into the craft services tent and calls in Scary.
"No way in hell," Scary grumbles, leafing through the notebook with Max at her side. "You're lucky I haven't smashed in all your stupid equipment yet."
"Um, yeah, Chris warned us about that, so... he took the liberty of setting up a minefield around the production tent," Nadie smiles nervously. "I wouldn't get too close if I were you."
---
"What do I think I've accomplished on the show?" Scary scoffs at the question.
---
Max sighs. "Nothing,"
---
"Not enough!" O says.
---
"I guess I've... survived, and that's good enough, right?" Peter smiles bashfully.
---
"Here's an accomplishment for you: today's minefield will be the last," Scary grins. "Chris is going down."
---
It's dark out now, the sun setting behind the cityscape. Scary steps out of the trailer and Nadie sticks his head out as she leaves. “Scruffy?”
“FINALLY!” Scruffy jumps up from the grass where they’ve been waiting for the past few hours, and dashes inside the trailer. “I am so ready for this!”
“Love the enthusiasm,” Nadie smiles. “We don’t actually have a lot of questions for you, but this one’s on everyone’s minds…”
“Anything!” they speak enthusiastically, folding their hands in their lap and sitting up straight.
“What are your thoughts on Patrick and Julia being an item?”
Scruffy’s smile drops. “What?”
“Damn, right, I forgot that you don’t have internet access here. Patrick and Julia are an item now! Considering your close friendship with Julia, a lot of the fans are wondering…”
They force another smile. “That’s great! That’s so cool and awesome, I’m SO happy for them! Haha! Even though Patrick’s style of antagonism directly conflicts Julia’s and they’re way too different and he knows nothing about her. I’m fine! You know what? I didn't even want to do this interview anyway- I have to go!” Scruffy stands, running outside the trailer.
---
Scruffy sits in the confessional, wailing.
---
Scary and Max watch them running into the makeup and hair confessional, covering their face. “What got up their ass this time?” Max asks.
---
Peter and O watch the two from inside the mess hall. "What do you think they're doing?"
"Nothing good," O responds, shaking his head. "Anything those two can agree on has to be trouble."
"I don't know, maybe we're being too harsh..." Peter starts, twirling his thumbs around each other. "I don't want to be mean..."
O sighs and takes a seat at the table. "Listen, man. Speaking... as a friend, I think you can be pretty soft when it comes to people messing with your feelings. And I know that... I haven't been doing a good job at regulating that for everyone. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes I feel like therapy just pushes positivity onto people instead of validating their feelings!"
"I don't think that's crazy at all," Peter says. "Didn't your therapist get you to come on reality TV to face a fear?"
"Yeah... maybe... that wasn't the right move," O sighs. "I know it's unprofessional, but I see you guys as friends, not clients, and I would never subject my friends to that same crap."
"I don't think that's unprofessional, I think that's empathy. It's sweet," Peter smiles. "If only everyone else felt that way..."
"Hey, man, if you need me, I'm here for you. What's been happening to you isn't fair, and if you wanna get mad-"
“It’s just so unfair!” he suddenly shouts, slamming his fists on the table. “Why do these things keep happening to me?!”
“That's it- stand for yourself! Don’t let your fear take over!”
“You’re right! I’ve been letting myself get walked on for too long!” Peter stands. “I’m going to confront Max and Scary and tell them exactly what’s on my mind!”
He storms out of the craft services tent and to the impromptu camera tent, where the Reality, Weekly crew is having their dinner break. Max and Scary are hovering around the group, using their lights to read through the notes.
“I’m no scientist, but this all seems right to me,” Max says. “If your readings are correct, and your evidence can be held up in court, you definitely have a case.”
“I knew it!” Scary grins. “Chris McLean is SO going down!”
“MAX AND SCARY!” Peter shouts, pointing an accusing finger at them. The two look up from their notes and squint at him.
“Great. What now?” Max mutters, crossing his arms. Scary hands him the notes and walks up to Peter, hands on her hips.
“What’s the deal, pipsqueak?”
“The deal is that… that…” Peter quivers, a little unsure of himself, before he takes a deep breath and stands his ground. “You’re MEAN!”
“You’re RUDE. You’re EVIL!” he takes a step forward. “And you’re not even that much smarter than anyone else! We can ALL TELL!”
Scary scoffs. “God, this is pathetic. You really think that-”
She takes a step closer and triggers a sudden hidden trip wire. The sound of twanging makes both her and Peter stop dead in their tracks and turn to the sound of fizzling under their feet. They both jump to the ground, covering their heads as a landmine goes off behind them- sending Max flying across camp and instantly disintegrating all of Scary’s notes. She watches the papers turn into ashes in horror.
Chris chuckles, watching the display from afar. “Man, I love fireworks,”
---
A medical helicopter takes off, Max tucked inside. Scary is seething, fists clenched.
“Well… that was fun,” Nadie says, waving goodbye to the chopper.
Chris smiles. “Yes. Yes it was,”
"MONTHS of evidence- gone!" Scary turns to Peter. "You're dead. You're dead meat, and I'm gonna eat you!"
"Weird," O breathes, then turns his head to either side of him. "Hey- where'd Scruffy go?"
---
Scruffy remains in the confessional, wailing.

After washing your hands, you walked back outside to see the firepit was lit and some of the cowboys were sitting around eating. You saw Jake standing to the side and walked over to him.
He smiled when he saw you.
Tumblr media
"How come you're not eating?" you asked.
"I was waiting for you," he replied, extending his hand towards the buffet table.
You took a plate and began loading it up with food. At the far end of the table, you spotted Griff with a large pot, most likely his renowned barbecue.
"Ms. Y/N," Griff greeted with a nod as you approached him. "It's wonderful to have you back."
You smiled appreciatively. "Thank you, Griff."
Griff turned to Jake. "Well, if it isn't Jake Seresin. How've you been? It's been, what, a few months?"
You glanced at Jake.
"Something like that, Griff," Jake responded with a grin.
The two of you made your way to an empty hay bale and settled in.
"A few months?" you ask.
"Yeah. I try to make it back when I can. It's good to get away from the base every now and then."
"I can imagine," you replied, taking a bite of your barbecue sandwich. You set it back down on the plate and glanced at Jake. "I do miss this kind of food from time to time."
Jake smiled. "I can see that."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You've got a little something on your lip right there," he pointed out, reaching over to gently wipe your mouth.
You couldn't help but smile at Jake's gesture, feeling a mixture of nostalgia and warmth. "Thanks."
He grinned. "No problem."
The conversation flowed easily after that, as you and Jake caught up on each other's lives, sharing stories and laughing together. It was strange, but in a good way, to feel this connection with him again after so long.
"It's been a long day," Jake finally said and you looked at him.
"Yeah. I guess it has." You stood up. "Let's get you home."
The two of you went and threw your garbage into the trash can, headed to your rental truck and got in. You started the truck and began driving.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" Jake asks.
You shrugged. "I'm not sure. Whatever needs to be done around here, I guess."
"You want to go for a ride?"
You looked at him. "Sure."
"It was really nice seeing you again."
"You too."
The drive back was filled with a comfortable silence, the occasional hum of the engine providing a soothing backdrop. As you pulled up to the house, Jake turned to you with a smile.
"Thanks for today, Y/N. It was really great."
You returned the smile. "You can thank my brother for that, but likewise."
Jake opened the door, stepped out of the truck and headed towards his parents house. Watching him go, you felt a sense of contentment wash over you. Today had been unexpected, but in the best possible way. You looked forward to whatever tomorrow might bring.
Tumblr media
The next morning, you woke up, got dressed and headed to the kitchen where James sat at the island drinking coffee and reading a paper and Griff was cooking.
"I didn't think newspapers existed anymore," you said as you poured yourself a cup of coffee.
"I didn't think you and Jake Seresin would ever get back together, but here we are."
You met James's gaze. "We're not together. We've just been catching up."
"Uh huh," James responded, taking another sip of his coffee.
Just then, the door swung open, revealing Jake along with his sister Leslie.
"Oh my God! Y/N!" Leslie exclaimed, rushing towards you with excitement, and the two of you shared a tight embrace. You looked at Jake.
"Sorry. When she heard you were home, she insisted on driving me over."
Leslie parted from you and looked at you. "Exactly. Don't blame him."
"I won't," you responded.
"It is so good to see you. Why didn't you tell me you were coming home?"
You and Leslie had been best friends since elementary school, and she had been heartbroken when you moved to Alaska, but she understood.
Leslie glanced from you to Jake and then back to you.
"You know what, forget I asked that. I'll talk to you later. Bye James," she said before heading out the door.
"Here you go, Ms. Y/N," Griff said placing a basket on the kitchen island.
"Thank you, Griff."
"You want some breakfast since you just got up? I've got some eggs and bacon."
"Sure."
"Jake? What about you?"
"I'd love some. Thank you."
Griff prepared some plates for the two of you and set them down on the island. As he did, James folded his paper and stood up.
"I've got to go check on the guys. Could you check the north fence today?"
"Yeah."
"Thanks," he said and went out the door.
Griff wiped his hands on his apron. "I've got to go answer that call," he said, then swiftly left the kitchen.
You and Jake exchanged puzzled looks.
"Alrighty then," you said, starting to eat.
When you finished, you placed your dish in the dishwasher along with Jake's and grabbed the basket.
"You ready?"
"Yeah. Let's go get the horses saddled and ride out."
The two of you headed out the door and to the barn.

So Long Version 2 Chapter 9
Word Count: 6.3k
A/N: A couple more cliches thrown in, because why not? Are you ready for them to finally get together yet?
Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
Ages 24 and 25 August 2004
I woke up the next morning feeling very comfortable and well rested. I laid there for a little bit before opening my eyes, just trying to wake up more, and realized my pillow was moving slowly up and down. Then I felt the arm wrapped around me. My eyes flew open and I slowly tried to look up to see if Dean was awake yet.
“Mornin’,” he rumbled in a sleep roughened voice when he felt me moving.
“Morning,” I echoed, moving to sit up. “Sorry about invading your space like that. I’m not really sure how that happened.”
“Don’t worry about it. It didn’t bother me,” he assured me.
“How long have you been awake?” I asked, trying to move past the situation and not hyperfocus on it the way I wanted to.
“Just a few minutes.”
I looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 8.
“Shit! We need to get going!” I said, jumping out of bed. We didn’t have much time to figure out what was going on here.
“I think we should go back to the conference room first,” I said when we were both dressed and ready to go.
“Okay. Why?”
“If Mallory and Dave are there we can see if we can learn anything from them. If not, we can look around that little office.”
“Alright. I guess that’s a good place to start.”
We took the elevator back down to the first floor and headed for the conference room. A quick peak in the door didn’t show any signs of the two hosts, so we headed towards the office they’d retreated to last night.
“Oh!” Mallory gasped when we walked in the open door. “Hello! Can we help you with something?” she asked politely. She and Dave were sitting at a desk. They didn’t look like they were going anywhere anytime soon.
“Yeah, actually we forgot to grab one of those schedules last night. You wouldn’t happen to have another one, would you?” I asked, the lie coming to me easily.
“Of course!” Dave said, opening a drawer and handing over a piece of paper he grabbed from inside. “Here you go!”
“Thanks,” Dean said as he took it from him, pretending to look it over. “I’ve gotta tell you, this is a really great retreat. Jenna and I were just saying last night how glad we are that we decided to come.”
“That’s great! We always love to hear people are enjoying themselves,” Mallory smiled.
“How long have you been doing retreats like this?” I asked. “I mean, to have something this well set up, you have to have done it before right?”
“Oh, Dave and I have been doing these for a while now. We’ve hosted all the couple’s retreats here since the first one.”
“We actually do these events at hotels all across the country,” Dave added proudly.
“That’s a pretty fun job,” I said.
“It’s so much fun. We love it,” Mallory agreed.
“Well, thanks for the schedule,” Dean said. “We’re gonna go get some breakfast. We’ll see you for the scavenger hunt!”
“So what do you think?” I asked when we were a safe distance away, walking down the halls towards the breakfast bar.
“The fact that they’ve been here every year seems a little suspicious. But if they’re traveling all over the country doing this…”
“Yeah,” I agreed. “Maybe it’s just their job and they’re not involved. I guess we could try to look into some of the other retreats they’ve done. See if anyone’s gone missing from any of them?”
“Sounds like fun,” Dean groaned.
We rounded the corner to the room breakfast was served in and Dean immediately headed for the buffet. The room was almost empty, only a few other people scattered throughout. I stepped into line behind him, watching him pile his plate with eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and sausage.
“I’m just gonna say it again. We have to stay in places like this more often,” Dean said. He went and set his plate on an empty table and then came back for coffee.
I just smiled and shook my head as I dished up my own plate.
“It is a nice hotel, isn’t it?” The older lady waiting patiently in line behind me commented. “I never would have thought it could turn into something this nice.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well it’s a beautiful place now. It wasn’t that long ago this place wasn’t very popular and kind of run down. Rumors were going around that they were on the verge of bankruptcy. Then, almost overnight things started to get better. Within a month this was one of the most popular hotels in the state.”
“Weird. Did they hire a new manager or something? Someone with more experience who was able to turn things around?” I asked.
“Oh no. The same man has owned this place for going on twenty years now. He manages it himself.”
“Huh. How long ago did it turn into what it is now?”
“Oh, about… seven years ago I think.”
“That’s really interesting. Well, I better go sit down before my husband wonders what’s taking so long,” I smiled, gesturing towards the table Dean was at.
The lady smiled back and waved me off. I grabbed some orange juice and then sat down.
“I don’t suppose you heard any of that?” I asked.
“Not a word. You looked pretty interested though,” he said around a mouthful of food.
“I think Mallory and Dave are off the hook,” I told him. “I’d say the hotel owner just got bumped to the number one suspect spot.”
I relayed to him the information I’d just gotten from the old lady.
“Awesome,” Dean grumbled. “So we’re probably dealing with some sort of pagan god.”
“You think so?” I asked.
“Think about it. The people that have been disappearing have probably been sacrifices to keep this place running. The guy is about to lose everything. He’s desperate. Desperate people do crazy things. He decides to try sacrificing a couple people to some random god in a last ditch effort and it turns out it works. So now that he’s doing well, he schedules retreats. He’s got a group of people to choose from every year. It’s even a couple, a man and a woman. Sounds like a pagan ritual to me.”
“Awesome,” I sighed. “There’s only about a thousand of them. This could take days of research, Dean. We don’t have that kind of time.”
“I know. We’re just going to have to do the best we can,” he said.
We quickly finished our breakfast and then I went back to our room to start making a list of pagan gods that wanted sacrifices in exchange for money or success while Dean went to check out the hotel owner’s office.
I’d only been looking for about twenty minutes when there was a knock on the door.
“It’s me,” Dean said from the other side.
I got up to open the door for him.
“What’d you find?” I asked.
“Nothing. I couldn’t get in. There’s some guy sitting in the hallways where all the offices are and he wasn’t leaving.”
“Okay,” I sighed. That complicated things a bit. The office might have held clues to help us narrow down what god we were looking for. “We’ll just make a list of every god we can find that fits the bill and find a different time to get in the office.”
The next couple hours were spent in relative silence as we looked up every god we possibly could online, writing down the names of ones that could be the one we were dealing with.
By the time noon rolled around we had a pretty decent sized list, but thankfully it was smaller than expected. There were more gods than I realized that didn’t require human sacrifice in order to be helpful.
Dean had also spent a little time looking into the hotel owner. His name was Connor O’Reilly. His parents were Irish immigrants and he’d inherited this hotel from them when they died in a car accident when he was 24. There was nothing out of the ordinary about him, but then again, the real psychos out there usually hid it well.
We went to the hotel restaurant to get some lunch before the scavenger hunt. Once we’d eaten, we headed back to conference room A. We were the last to arrive again.
“Hello,” Mallory chirped. “I hope everyone enjoyed their morning! We’ve got a fun rest of the day planned out for you all!”
“Starting with a scavenger hunt!” Dave continued. He showed us a stack of paper in his hand. “Each couple is going to get their own list of things to find. None of the lists are the same, so you’ll all be looking for different things. You have 45 minutes to find all ten items and then meet back here.”
Dave passed out the papers as well as a stopwatch to each couple.
“Start your time… now!” Mallory instructed. Everybody started their stopwatches and then took off.
“Alright. What do you say we do some real hunting?” Dean asked.
“I think we should spend five minutes at least pretending to be participating. Give everyone time to spread out and not pay attention to us,” I suggested.
“Fine,” Dean huffed. “Five minutes.”
We managed to find two of the things on the list in those five minutes and then we decided to go try and get into the offices again.
There was no one around to see us slip into the now empty hallway. We walked all the way to the end, stopping at the one labeled ‘Manager.’ Dean quickly picked the lock and we slipped inside, quietly closing the door behind us.
A quick scan of the room showed a couple of big filing cabinets and no computer. This guy was old school then. Dean and I each headed to a filing cabinet and started digging.
“This started seven years ago, so skip over anything from before then,” I said to Dean as I flipped through the well organized folders to more recent years.
I skimmed through employee files, renovation details, bills, tax information and countless other papers he’d filed away, but I wasn’t coming up with anything useful.
“Find anything yet?” Dean asked. He had finished going through all the more recent files in his cabinet and was going through the desk and searching the room for anything that might give us a clue.
“No, nothing.” I sighed and looked at the stopwatch. “We’re supposed to be back to the conference room in a couple minutes.”
“Can’t we just skip it?” Dean asked.
“No, because then they’ll come looking for us. I don’t think there’s anything left to look through here anyway.”
“Fine,” he agreed. “Let’s go.”
We started walking for the door, and that’s when I saw it.
“Dean, wait.” I said.
“What?” he asked.
I’d missed it on the way in because I hadn’t stopped to look at the walls. But hanging right next to the office door was a picture that I recognized. A group of warriors in a line, facing a large figure who was dunking a man in a cauldron. Above these warriors was another group of warriors, these ones on horseback, riding away from the large figure.
“I know which god we’re dealing with,” I told him.
“How?”
“That picture,” I said, pointing to it. “That’s a Celtic god called Teutates.”
“We must have looked up hundreds of gods today. How can you remember one specific one? Based off of a picture?” He questioned.
“I remember a few. He just happens to be one of them. And I’ve seen him before when I was doing research with Bobby.” I answered.
“You’re sure?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. How do we kill him?”
“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But at least we know who we’re dealing with now. It shouldn’t be hard to figure out how to kill him.”
“Let’s get the rest of these stupid activities over with so we can finish this hunt,” he said, opening the door enough to check that the hall was clear before we stepped out, relocking the door behind us. We’d only made it a few steps when the click of high heels sounded just outside of the hallway we were standing in.
Possible explanations for our presence here raced through my mind, but before I could decide on the best one, Dean was pushing me up against the wall. He grabbed my arms, wrapping them around his neck and then put his hands on my waist. This all happened so quickly that I didn’t even have time to ask what he was doing.
Then his mouth was on mine. I froze. I could feel his lips moving, trying to get me to respond, but I could barely even manage to remember to breathe with the way my brain seemed to be short circuiting. The footsteps got louder and seemed to filter through my shock.
I felt my hands reflexively tighten a little in Dean’s hair and I had just started to kiss him back when we were interrupted.
“Excuse me,” a female voice said. Dean and I broke apart at the sound of it. “You’re not supposed to be back here.”
“Sorry,” Dean apologized. “We were just…” Whatever excuse he had been about to give her trailed off at the unimpressed look she was giving us. “Leaving,” he said.
He grabbed my hand and quickly walked away, out of the hall and towards the conference room.
“Dean,” I said when I regained the ability to speak. We were almost there. Not a good time, but I couldn’t seem to stop myself.
“Not now,” he told me.
I didn’t want to let it go, but I knew I had to. For now at least. We walked into the room to see that, for once, we weren’t the last ones. James and Stephanie still weren’t back yet.
“That was pretty fun, wasn’t it?” Julia asked us, coming to stand beside me.
“Uh, yeah it was great!” I replied.
“How’d you guys do?” She asked.
I didn’t get a chance to answer because James and Stephanie came back at that moment and Mallory and Dave were immediately ready to move on.
“Okay! I see everybody’s back. Is there anyone who managed to find all of their items?” Dave asked.
Four sets of hands went up.
“That’s great! And how many did you find?” Mallory asked Stephanie and James.
“We got nine,” Stephanie said. “We were trying to find the last one when we realized we were out of time.”
“Nine out of ten is still impressive!” Mallory assured her. “And what about you two? How many did you find?”
“Um, well… we only found two,” I told her.
“It’s this one’s fault, really,” Dean said as he slung an arm around my shoulders. “She got a little bit distracted.” I frowned, wondering where he was going with this. We could have just told them we were really bad at scavenger hunts. “She just loves interior design so much. We spent most of our time looking at the furniture layout and pictures and woodwork.”
“I can’t help it,” I shrugged. “It’s just so interesting.”
“Well that’s ok,” Mallory said. “As long as you were having fun together. That is what this retreat is all about.”
“Everyone please put the items you collected into this basket,” Dave instructed, setting a large plastic basket onto the table. “And we’ll move on to our next activity!”
I didn’t want to move on to the next activity. I wanted to talk to Dean about what just happened a few minutes ago. I wanted to finish the case too, but that had been bumped from the top priority slot.
“I’m sure you’re all familiar with the newlywed shoe game. We’re going to be playing that, but with a slight twist. The couple who answers the most questions the same wins a free couple’s massage for tomorrow morning!” Dave explained.
“So if everyone could please take off one of your shoes and hand it to your soulmate, and then take a seat across from each other,” Mallory said, gesturing to two rows of chairs positioned back to back.
“You answer them all correctly, I’ll get a few wrong,” Dean whispered to me as we handed over our shoes. Neither of us wanted to win the couple’s massage, but we also couldn’t get them all wrong. I nodded in agreement and we both sat down.
It turned out they had a long list of questions. It took about twenty minutes to get through them all. I was getting pretty bored and fidgety by the end. The questions weren’t difficult and they kept my focus squarely on Dean, right where I didn’t want it. I wanted to keep myself distracted and my mind off of that kiss until we were able to discuss it. Unfortunately, couple’s retreats weren’t really designed to let you not think about your other half.
“Well that was a lot of fun to watch!” Mallory cheered when it was finally over. “The couple who agreed on the most questions is… Hannah and Tristan! Congratulations you two! Enjoy your free massage!” She held out a free massage coupon which Tristan accepted with a smile.
“Alright. Now, if you all think you’ve been having fun so far, just you wait. The next thing we’re going to do is my favorite part of the whole weekend!” Dave announced. “I’m going to ask you to help us move everything to the edges of the room. We’ll need a lot of space because we’re going to be teaching everybody some fun group dances next!”
I heard Dean’s quiet groan beside me. We all worked together to move the tables and chairs up against the walls and then Mallory disappeared into their office, coming back with a speaker and an ipod.
“The first step to learning any dance is to learn it without music first,” Mallory told us. “Dave and I will demonstrate one step at a time and then we’ll go through it slowly while you learn it. And then we’ll move on to music!”
“We’re going to teach you three different dances,” Dave continued. “We’ll spend half an hour on each one, so don’t worry if you don’t get it right away. They’re pretty simple dances so we have plenty of time to work on each. Now I want everybody to line up. Ladies on one side, gentlemen on the other, and leave some space between the lines.”
And so we spent the next half hour learning the first dance. It was the kind of dance full of skipping and turns and switching partners. We would complete a series of steps with one partner before moving to the next person, doing the steps again, switching partners again and so on.
At the end of the first half hour, we were instructed to take a water break. I was sipping from a bottle of water when Dean came to stand next to me.
“What do you think the odds are that someone sprains an ankle and we can be done with this?” He asked humorlessly.
“It’s not that bad,” I told him. He looked at me, surprised.
“You’re enjoying this,” he said accusingly.
“So what? It’s fun,” I said a little defensively.
“I didn’t even know you liked to dance,” he said. I just shrugged.
“Neither did I.” I hadn’t been any more excited about this particular activity than Dean was. I was surprised how much I was enjoying it.
Break over, everyone moved back to the center of the room to learn the next dance.
We were on to the third dance, just about to try it with music when the woman from the front desk peeked into the room, saying there was a call for Anna and Ethan. They excused themselves and we finished the dance minus one couple.
I was slightly out of breath when Dave stopped the music and called an end to the dance portion of the day. A phone rang in the office, and Mallory left to answer it. I’d had a lot more fun than I expected and the dances, simple as they were, had been sufficiently distracting enough for me to forget about Dean kissing me. That is, until I looked over to see him talking to James and smiling, and my eyes focused on his mouth.
“Bad news,” Mallory said, coming back into the room. “Anna and Ethan won’t be coming back. They got a call about a family emergency and had to leave. But that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t still have fun, right?”
Dean and I looked at each other. So the human sacrifices had been chosen and taken already. We needed to get moving. And fast.
“We figured we’d do something a little more relaxing after all of that work everyone just did. As I’m sure you are all aware, there’s a lake just behind this hotel. There are a few kayaks available for rental, and we’ve got the next hour booked!” Mallory told us.
“Oh, you know what? I’m actually terrified of being on open water.” I said the first excuse I could think of to give us a chance to get away.
“It’s a pretty small lake. There’s no big fish or predators of any kind. Perfectly safe,” Dave assured me.
“Doesn’t matter. It’s just a phobia I’ve had pretty much my whole life. We’re going to have to sit this one out, but you all have fun! We’ll be able to keep ourselves entertained.”
“If you’re sure,” Dave said. “Alright, everyone else, let’s head outside. If you have anything on you that you don’t want to risk falling into the water, I’d leave it here.”
We watched everyone file out of the room and then started planning.
“What are we going to do?” Dean asked. “We don’t have the slightest idea where to start looking for them. And we don’t even know how to kill this god yet.”
“I know. But we can’t just let them die. We might have to figure it out as we go.”
 “Figure it out as we go? We can’t help anyone if we’re dead,” he argued.
“I don’t know what else to do! We don’t exactly have time for research. Besides, who says he’ll even actually be there?” I pointed out as an idea occurred to me.
“Why wouldn’t he be there?”
“Think about it. Back in the day when sacrifices were the norm, the god didn’t show up on your doorstep to watch the sacrifice. It was just something you did and then the god would give you some sort of benefit in exchange. Why should this be any different?” I reasoned.
“That’s risking an awful lot on a maybe,” he said. Then he sighed. “But I guess you’re right. I don’t see that we have much of a choice. Alright, where do we start looking for these guys?”
“Well, from what I remember, sacrifices were made to Teutates by drowning the victims in a large vat of liquid, like in that picture in the office. Nobody knows for sure, but the theory is that they used ale.” I paused for a second as a realization struck me. “Which would explain why I found an order for a vat of ale every August. How did I miss that?” I groaned. “I just assumed it was for the hotel bar.”
“The ale was shipped here?” Dean asked.
“Yeah. Which doesn’t mean he couldn’t have moved it afterwards. But he wouldn’t be able to move it on his own.”
“Plus it would make more sense to do it here. Otherwise he has to find a way to either sneak two unconscious people out of the hotel or lure them out with him. That would put him as the last person to see them before they vanished, which I imagine is a risk he wouldn’t want to take,” Dean continued piecing things together.
“So they have to be here somewhere,” I concluded.
“The basement?” Dean suggested. “I didn’t see any mention of renovations done down there. It could be an area that no one uses. Or not often enough for it to be a concern.”
“Let’s go,” I agreed.
We had to stop at our room first to grab weapons. We didn’t know what we were walking into for sure and it would be foolish to go in unarmed. Dean grabbed a couple guns that he was able to hide with his jacket and I grabbed two knives that I tucked into my boots. It was better than nothing.
We took the elevator back down to the first floor and then went to the stairwell. The elevator didn’t go down to the basement. We went down the flight of stairs and stopped at the heavy basement door while Dean picked the lock. He handed me his second gun and I gave him one of the knives and then we stepped in.
The basement was a mess. The concrete floor was littered with all kinds of junk, everything from old pieces of furniture and musty books to rolls of wire and broken shards of glass. The concrete was broken and crumbling in places. It was dim down here too, only a few of the lights still working.
The room we’d stepped into was open and huge but, aside from the junk, empty. There was another door on the other side of the room, left open. From inside I heard a breathless voice begging to be let go.
“Jenna, wait!” Dean whisper yelled as I rushed in without checking my surroundings first. I was worried about getting to Anna and Ethan on time.
They were hanging upside down from a machine that had an arm that lifted, lowered, and moved side to side. They were suspended over a metal vat that stood about waist high and was covered in carvings. Their hands were tied behind their backs and the machine had been lowered just enough that they could lift their heads out of the ale, but it would take a lot of effort. They would run out of energy quickly, and then they’d drown.
I ran towards the machine to lift them out, but as I was climbing into the seat I felt a sharp stinging sensation in my left side, just below my ribs. I cried out at the pain and turned to see a man holding a knife.
He was probably in his mid forties and in shape. But he didn’t know how to fight. I was able to easily block his next attack and aim a well placed kick to his chest that sent him stumbling back straight into Dean. Dean quickly disarmed the man and pinned him up to a wall with a knife pressed to his throat.
“Get them out of there, Jenna,” he instructed.
With a hand held to my side to try and stop the flow of blood I could feel streaming down, I climbed into the machine and looked over the controls. I quickly figured out how to move Anna and Ethan safely away from the vat. I lowered them as far as the machine would go, going as slowly as possible when their heads came close to touching the floor so they wouldn’t hit them on the concrete.
Once they were laying flat on their backs with their feet still in the air a little bit, I climbed back down and used my knife to cut the ropes.
“Alright, get out of here,” I told them when they were both free.
“What are you gonna do?” Ethan asked.
“You’re gonna call the cops and we’re gonna keep an eye on him until they get here,” Dean answered. “Now go!”
They ran from the room.
“So. Connor,” Dean said conversationally. “Where do you get off on killing people? And all to keep some stupid hotel running? If you ask me, you should have cut your losses and moved on.”
“My parents spent every dime they had to open this place up. It was the most important thing to them. I wasn’t just going to sit back and watch it fall apart,” Connor spat.
“Right. So naturally you decided human sacrifice was the way to go. Because isn’t that everybody’s plan B? Something’s not going my way, so I’ll make a sacrifice to some random god and see if that makes things better,” Dean retorted.
“He’s not some random god. Do you even know what Teutates means?” He asked.
“No. And I don’t particularly care,” Dean said.
“It means ‘god of the people.’ He takes care of us. My family has worshiped him for generations. In fact, we were one of the first families to live under his protection,” he said proudly. “How else would I have gotten the sacrificial vat?”
“The sacrificial- So what you’re saying is, in order for the wish granting portion of your little setup here to work, people have to be drowned in that thing specifically? It can’t just be a barrel of beer or something?” Dean asked.
“Of course not! The offering is sacred! The container it’s offered in must be sacred too.”
“Oh buddy. I’ve gotta tell you, I’d like to just take care of you myself and not wait for the cops.” Connor stiffened at Dean’s clear threat. “Luckily for you, I think it’ll be a much bigger punishment for you to live and watch your hotel go back to being bankrupt. Jenna, cover him.”
I moved to stand next to Dean and aimed my gun at Connor. When I was in position, Dean climbed up into the machine. He turned it on and used the arm to knock over the ancient vat. Ale spilled out in a wave, covering the floor. He drove forward, pushing the vat in front of him until it was pressed up against the nearest wall. Then he kept pushing the heavy machine forward.
“What are you doing?” Connor screamed. “You’ll break it!”
“That’s the idea,” I told him.
He tried to take a step in Dean’s direction and I moved my gun in front of his face.
There was the horrible sound of bending metal. Dean backed up and the vat fell to the floor, crumpled in on itself. He ran it over a few times for good measure until it was unrecognizable.
“That should do it,” Dean said, climbing out of the machine and coming to stand by me. “How you doing?” He asked, nodding to my side. I’d switched the gun to my left hand and was using my right to keep pressure on the injury.
“Fine,” I told him.
“How long do you think until the cops get here?” He asked.
“I don’t know. Pretty soon I would imagine.”
“I’d rather not be here when they show up. I just want to get out of here,” he said as he grabbed the discarded rope off the floor.
“Sounds good to me,” I said.
I kept my gun pointed at Connor as Dean tied his hands and feet. Turns out the gun wasn’t really necessary. The man just sat there, despondently staring at that lump of metal on the ground.
“Alright. Let’s go,” Dean said.
We walked out of the basement and took the stairs up to the eighth floor. I wish we could have taken the elevator, but we couldn’t risk walking through the lobby while my left side was covered in blood.
Back in our room we quickly packed our bags. I was about to head out the door when Dean stopped me.
“Let me take a look at your side,” he said.
“Later. We need to go.”
“Jenna, you’re bleeding a lot. I need to check it out.”
“If we don’t leave now, we might not get out before the cops show. I’ll be fine for a little bit longer,” I told him.
“Fine,” he sighed. He disappeared into the bathroom and came back with a clean hand towel. “At least use this. And you should probably change your shirt quick.”
Not wanting to waste more time arguing, I grabbed a different shirt out of my bag and went to the bathroom to change. I quickly wiped away the blood that hadn’t dried yet and pressed the towel to my side under the shirt. I balled the old bloody one up and stuffed it in my bag.
“Okay, let’s go,” I said.
We took the elevator down to the lobby and walked out the door. There were two police cars in the parking lot. We kept a casual pace as we walked to the Impala and loaded our bags. Then we climbed in and Dean drove away.
~~~~~
Half an hour later we checked into a room at the first motel Dean found at the first town we passed.
“Okay, let me look at your side now,” Dean said, coming in from the Impala with the medical kit.
I grabbed the hem of my shirt to lift it and show him the injury, but stopped. This would expose my tattoo to him.
“When are we going to talk about it?” I asked.
“Talk about what?” Dean set the kit on one of the beds and came over to me, reaching out to grab the hem of my shirt. I backed away.
“About the fact that you kissed me.”
Dean looked at me, startled. Had he forgotten or just not expected me to bring it up?
“Someone was coming. We had to have some sort of excuse for being back there. It was the only thing that made sense,” he answered, reaching for me again. I backed away again.
“Jenna. Let me look at that,” he ordered.
“It was not the only thing that made sense. I came up with about five reasons for being there,” I argued.
“Like what?”
“Like we got lost. Like we just came down the hall to see if there was anything there for the scavenger hunt. We could have hidden in one of the rooms or just kept walking and acted like we were supposed to be there. That usually works.”
“Well I didn’t think of any of that,” he said.
“I don’t believe you,” I told him. “You’re the fastest thinking guy I know. You always have a whole list of excuses ready to go.”
“Would you let me look at your side before you bleed out?” He snapped.
“Not until you answer my question,” I insisted. “Why’d you do it?”
“Why does it matter?”
This might have just been a convenient way to avoid him seeing his own name tattooed on my body and dealing with what would follow. I was still sticking with the theory that he had a different soulmate and I wasn’t sure how he’d react when he found out he was mine. I didn’t want to deal with the awkwardness and pity that would follow.
But I also just really wanted to know the answer. I knew the kiss wouldn’t have meant to Dean what it did to me, but there was a reason he did it. Not knowing why would be torture.
“There doesn’t have to be a particular reason. I just want to know,” I said.
He clenched his jaw.
“You really wanna know?”
“Yes.”
“The truth?” He questioned.
Obviously, I wanted to say. But that wouldn’t help the situation.
“The truth,” I confirmed.
“You might decide you don’t want to stay with me anymore if I tell you,” he warned. No, begged. He was pleading with me not to make him say it.
“There is nothing you could possibly say that would make me want to leave you. We’ve been over this,” I told him.
He paused for a minute, thinking it over.
“Fine,” he agreed. “But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
He gave me a few more seconds to change my mind, and when I didn’t, he continued.
“I did it because we were on this case. As far as everyone around us was concerned, we were married. I’ve never been in a situation before where kissing you was a valid excuse for being somewhere we weren’t supposed to be. And I just figured I might not get another chance. And I’ve wanted to kiss you for… a long time. So I took advantage of the opportunity.”
I couldn’t even imagine what my face must look like right now. I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath. I was shocked beyond belief and I felt so much happiness and hope building in my chest that I thought it might burst. Dean cleared his throat.
“That’s my end of the deal held up. Now it’s your turn. Let me see your side,” he said.
To be honest, I hadn’t formulated a plan yet, but I’d had no real intention of letting Dean take care of it. I couldn’t let him see the secret I’d carried for so long. It still made me nervous. After this many years, finally telling him what he was to me was a terrifying thought. But now, with this giddy, hopeful feeling, I let myself consider the possibility that he belonged to me the way I belonged to him.
So, slowly, I lifted my shirt up, exposing my side up to my ribs. I dropped the towel I’d still been holding to the wound. I watched his eyes zero in first on the bloody gash in my side and then lower. To the four letters sitting there in thick black ink. He inhaled sharply and his eyes shot to mine.
Chapter 3
It had been two days since my breakdown in front of Scarlett and ChrisE and apart from the fact that Scarlett wouldn't let me out of her sight, not much changed. ChrisE treated me almost exactly the same as before. But Scarlett got up with me in the mornings to make sure I ate breakfast. She made sure I did my schoolwork, went to bed early enough and so on.
While doing all this she constantly reminded me that my mother's death wasn't my fault and that I should not feel guilty about it.
I mean I was grateful she tried, but in all honesty I've known for a long time that my mother's death was my fault. She was just feeling sorry for me. "Lottie. Love. It's me Scarlett. Are you ready for today?" The happy voice of the blonde, followed by a knock made me look up. I opened the door and gave her a small smile.
"Good morning Baby. Did you sleep alright? You seem tired." I gave her a little nod.
"Alrighy let's go get breakfast." I nodded again and followed her towards the Common Room. She guided me towards the table and told me to sit down, while she made breakfast. "I can help." I tried but she shook her head and started to make scrambled eggs.
Ten minutes later she put a plate down in front of me and another one for her. "You do realize that we could get at the buffet, right?" I asked, while pouring us both something to drink. "Yeah I know but most of the food there isn't very nutritious and you don't eat enough, so I want to make sure that what you eat is healthy." "I'm so.." "No, please don't apologize, there's no need and now please eat." "Kay." The eggs were really good, but way too much for me. "I'm sorry I'm full." She sighed but gave me a small nod. "Okay." And after she finished her breakfast we cleaned up together.
"Come on love, you have to go to hair and makeup." While the hair and makeup artist worked on me, Scarlett tried to make Smalltalk with me. Meaning she tried and gave her short and unspecific answers.
I followed her to the set were started filming.
"Come Baby, it's time for lunch." Lizzie pulled me with her to the buffet. The rest of the cast  was already there, eating and talking. Apparently Jeremy had something funny cause ChrisH started laughing really loud. He waved over while shipping some tears away as Lizzie and I walked closer. "Hey." Most of them looked at us and smiled or greeted each other. Scarlett, who I hadn't seen since the morning, got up and walked over. She pulled me in a quick hug. "Hey love." She pressed a quick kiss on my hair, while I gave her a smile and leaned into her.
"What do you want to eat?" She asked and I looked over the food before deciding on taking two small pieces of pizza. "That's not very much." I heard Scarlett say next to me, but I just shrugged and followed her back to one of the tables. Liz, Aaron and Robert were already sitting there, eating and talking. So while the grown ups were lost in their conversations, I tried to eat the food. But after finishing the first I was full, my stomach started hurting. I really wasn't used to eating so much in so little time. First the eggs, now the pizza.
"By the way. Lottie. There was a man that wanted to talk to you." Aaron said, making me look up at him.
"A man?" I asked and I could feel my stomach twisting. I didn't really know a lot of people, especially nobody that would just turn up here. Nobody but my father.
"Yes. End of the forties. Dark hair." He continued, while eating. The dark twisted feeling in my stomach just grew. Of course he would turn up today. I sighed. Today was the five year anniversary of my mother's death and up until now he turned up every year on this day to visit me.
"Oh uhm, probably just my dad." I mumbled and got up, I probably should get over with it quickly. "Everything okay?" I nodded and walked towards the trailors. He probably would wait in my trailor, where we had some privacy. I reached my trailor way too quickly and knocked before I opened the door.
"Charlotte." My father. He was sitting on a chair next to the small table and looked at me. "Father." I answered, just I closed the door behind me.
Now that we were in a closed room, with almost no ventilation I could smell him. The fast food. Alcohol and sweat. Especially the alcohol.
As I stepped closer I noticed the Vodka bottle on the table. Almost empty. He grabbed my arm and pulled me with him. He was way too fast and made me stumble, but he just pulled me with another jerk, making me hit my head on one of the cabinets. I cried out in pain. Raising my hand to figure out whether I was bleeding or not. "Stop crying or I'll give you a real reason." He pushed me against the door towards the small bedroom.
"It's your fault. If you wouldn't be so incredibly ungrateful and would just listen to your parents for once, my wife would still be alive." A stinging pain on my left cheek told me that he had slapped, and before I knew it I flinched again. This time the pain was in my stomach region. He had punched me in my stomach and I leaned forward to handle the pain, but he lifted me up by my shoulders.
"You deserve it. You're a murderer you killed her." His voice was getting louder and he punched me again and again. "Please stop." I begged him. "I'm so sorry. Please." The hot, salty tears were running down my face. I was looking directly into his black eyes, while he was laughing directly into my face and just continued to punch me in my stomach. "It's your fault." His breath was smelling just like alcohol and now his face came even closer, but I could see him tearing up and some tears started rolling down."And you look just like her." He cried out. Just like every year. First he was drunk, angry and sad and in the end he was just sad. But through all of his emotions he carried aggression and when he was aggressive he hurt me. I just closed my eyes and waited. Two more punches into my stomach. A furious scream that it was my fault and I was to blame.
Then his hands started to push my shirt up. "No..no.. please don't." Only one time he had touched me. One year ago, he had been in the same mood as today, sad and angry. He had mumbled something about my mother before he had pushed me down on my bed.
His long, ice cold fingers brought me back to reality and I could feel him push my sweater back up and throw it to the side.
"You look just like her." His face got closer to mine and it was almost on mine, when somebody knocked on the door.
"Lottie? Are you okay? We heard someone scream." I heard Scarlett's Voice. I closed my eyes, now everything would get worse. Now my new friends would find out what I really deserved. My father pressed his hand on my mouth. "Lottie?" I heard her voice again. The tears were still screaming down my face. "Charlotte? Please open the door." She sounded urgent and worried. "Tell her that everything is alright." My dad told me, before he took his hand away from my mouth. "Everything is alright Scarlett." I mumbled, but my voice was shaking and I know she picked up on it and that I hadn't been able to calm her down. "Charlotte. Open the door or I'll get one of the boys to open it." I couldn't react since my father had silenced me again. My whole body was trembling and apparently she really went to get someone, since only seconds later someone started to pull on the door. "Lottie. I'm coming inside." ChrisE was standing in front of my door. I heard somebody throwing themselves against the door and it started to crack. My father was completely frozen. He didn't move. The fear and anger were written in his face. The door cracked and small splints flew around as the door broke out of its angles. ChrisE stumbled inside, Scarlett right behind him. Both of them looked at me and my dad.
It took them a few seconds in complete shock before they sprung into action, Chris pulled my father away from me, which led to me falling onto the ground.  "Lottie. Baby. Everything will be alright." Scarlett kneeled down next to me. She gently helped me to put the sweater back on, which I was grateful for, since by now everybody had realized that something was really off and came running.
"It's her fault. She deserves this." My father continued yelling outside. Scarlett just pulled me into her arms and cradled me in her arms. Her hands gently started to brush through my hair. "What happened?" I heard Lizzies voice, but nobody answered her. I just closed my eyes and tried to delete everything that just happened. "It's okay baby. I'm here. You're safe, I promise." Scarlett whispered into my hair.
"Lottie. Everything is gonna be alright. I called the police. Your father will never hurt you again." ChrisH had kneeled down in front of us and I gave him a small nod. "Come let's get some tea." Scarlett mumbled as she helped me up.
AU - Business Trip Pt 4
You meet the new sales exec at a company offsite…
Boba x fem!reader, lite smut
***
“Oh, hi,” he said casually. You smiled, getting hot but trying your best to Be Normal. Everything is fine, you told yourself, feeling as if you were on fire. You were so flustered.
He smiled at you and turned back to the conversation he was having with a new salesperson. It seemed to be about a potential lead. You were about to walk off, but Boba asked, “What do you think?”
“Huh?” You had’t heard the initial question. Trying to play it off, you commented, “Oh, I don’t know anything about sales. Just ask me about spreadsheets.”
They both laughed congenially. You grinned and joined the conversation. You felt like Boba was inching towards you, but couldn’t totally tell.
“Well, let’s head to breakfast, the buffet is finally open.”
You laughed, “It was only five minutes late.”
”Yeah, but I’m starving,” Boba winked at you and took off for the line. His new employee followed behind, trying to get a few more minutes of his time. You trailed behind casually, not wanting to seem overeager. But you wanted to talk to Boba so badly. Especially about what had happened last night. You had woken alone to a text from him.
-good morning ☀️i had some work to do so i left. can’t wait 2 c u later today
You were insanely giddy, and had text your friend instantly.
-bitch wake up. i have news. we need to TALK in PRIVATE
-wtf happend. Omg SO HUNGOVER. Im dying, i think. Girl help.
You had ended up going to her room to help her get ready. She was in a bad way, casually puking into a trash can as you two girl talked.
“So anyway, then he actually came to my room.”
”What?? Let me get this straight: you sent him a naked photo and he showed up at your door? What happened?” She got too excited and started puking again. You waited until she had wiped her mouth, then continued.
“Well, I blurred it but yeah it was a spicy pic. Anyway, so he showed up.” You paused for dramatic effect. Your friend’s eyes widened in anticipation. “So I answered the door naked.”
“You did not!” She started puking again.
Smiling smugly, you confirmed, “I totally did. So he ended up coming in, and, uh… staying for awhile.”
She was still puking, but managed, “You guys totally fucked.”
You nodded smugly.
“Girl you fuckin’ hoe! I love you.” She stopped puking. “Okay, I need a shower and to brush my teeth like ten times. Can you put together a respectable outfit in the meantime?”
You agreed and started to rummage through her luggage as she sluggishly got to her feet. You had called to her before heading down to try to find Boba, “You can do it! I left everything on the bed for you. See you down there.”
”Hey, there you are, babe.” You turned to see your friend in the outfit you’d put together.
“Nice taste in clothing,” You joked.
She grinned, “Thanks, that means a lot.” Leaning in closer, she whispered, “I think I’m gonna drop dead before we hit the buffet.”
You returned quietly, “We’re two people away from it.”
”Yeah, two too many. I regret everything I ever did in my life to get to this point. I dunno how I’m going to live through the break out sessions we’re gonna have today.”
You laughed, “Get a ton of coffee and some greasy food in you. You took some Ibuprofen, right?” You grabbed a plate. You were at the front of the line. Handing it to your sick friend, you casually grabbed a second one for yourself. Grabbing some food, you commented, “See, here we are, getting food and you’re alive. So dramatic,” You teased.
”Ugh, bitch.” She said lowly, throwing food on her plate. You laughed good naturedly and went to the next station.
***
Lunch. Finally. You tried to find both your friend and Boba. Instead you found the rest of your team. “Oh, let’s eat together,” one of them politely suggested.
“I. Uh, have prior plans,” you started.
He laughed, “Well, Ms. Popular, sorry to stand in the way of your socializing.” He winked, “Just kidding, I’ll see you at that break out session later. I think I saw your name on the roster.”
“Sounds great,” you smiled; he was a nice guy. Then you took off to look for Boba. …and your friend.
You found Boba engaged in a one-on-one conversation with Miss BP. You respectfully hung back and searched the crowd for your buddy. They were probably talking about the break out session. Or some kind of work thing. Probably. You glanced over. She was laughing and putting her hand lightly on his forearm. You turned away. Omigosh, you thought. Hoe. Then you remembered you had fucked him last night and gently laughed to yourself.
“There you are. Please help me write my obituary during lunch. I’m dying. I think I smell like vodka. I need another shower. And, some mouth wash.”
You wrapped an arm around her and turned towards lunch. “Let’s get you some food, then hopefully we’ll have time to go to your room to recuperate for a bit.”
You walked past Boba and Miss Beaty Pageant. They didn’t seem to notice you. You decided not to take it personally; this was a work event after all. “What a whore, chatting him up like that,” Your friend muttered to you when you got to the buffet line. You giggled, “What am I then?”
”A respectable woman who sends tasteful, blurred nudes. But still gets the man.” She laughed too loudly. Someone turned around to see what was So Funny. She shushed herself and apologized. Then she continued, “Anyway, GOD I hope we have enough time to go to my room.” The line moved a bit. “This bitch of a line better move. My goodness. Or I’ll die in front of everyone,” she threatened mildly.
Laughing to each other, you chatted until you found an empty table. Setting your food down, you were immediately joined by some other people who had no idea where to sit. You politely engaged them in conversation, not wanting them to feel unwelcome. Lunch passed. Your friend excused the both of you to her room. “We’ve got some work we gotta get to before the next break-out,” she lied. You nodded, “Mhm. Well, very nice to meet all of you. See you around!” You both beelined for the elevator.
***
”Hi, there, looks like we’re both in this session,” Boba pulled his chair up to yours. You grinned, “Wow. What a coincidence.”
”We haven’t talked in forever,” he commented, looking around.
”Did you get your work done in the morning?”
”Yeah. I got an email at 3AM I had to do some research for and respond to right away. Probably will amount to nothing, but we’ll see.” He shrugged.
“Well, I got some really good sleep,” you smiled.
“Hm, that’s good to hear. I need a nap or something, I uh, didn’t get much sleep myself…”
Before you could respond with some subtle mention of last night, you heard a familiar voice, “Well, hey there! Funny seeing you here, stranger,” Miss BP addressed Boba.
“Oh! What a weird coincidence,” he said warmly. He introduced the two of you. You both sized each other up as you exchanged hellos. Boba either didn’t notice or decided not to comment. He continued, “Cross functional meeting we’re having here. Cool.”
You smiled, smitten with him. She seemed to be having the same reaction. What a Bitch, you grimly thought. The session started and the three of you sat back.
***
-what you up to?
You were in your friend’s bed watching TV while she took a third shower.
-i’m 📺
-cool. Can i come watch w you?
Your heart leapt.
-i’m in my friend’s room. Lemme see if we can have a party
-okay.
You ran to the bathroom. Opening the unlocked bathroom door, you shouted in, “Bitch! I need to ask you something RIGHT NOW.”
***
The knock on the door came sooner than the two of you thought. Your friend was still in a towel. “Fuck my life!” She exclaimed as the two of you struggled to throw together an outfit for her. She pulled on some pants and fought with a button down shirt. You helped her, calling out, “I’m coming!”
”Just like you did last night, you nasty skank,” she laughed. You giggled as you ran to the door. Opening it, you launched into your explanation, “Sorry, wardrobe malfunction.”
You were presented with Boba, who was offering you two bottles: one of vodka and one of cranberry juice. “It’s what I could find on short notice,” he commented as you stood to the side to let him in.
Your friend called out, “Oh, you’re here to kill me!” Upon seeing the booze. He laughed, “Cranberry only for you, miss. You sorta uh, smell like vodka.”
“I knew it.” She sighed, sitting on the bed. You hurriedly grabbed three glasses as your friend channel surfed. Boba sat on the little sofa and poured generous drinks for the two of you. For your friend, he poured a tall glass of cranberry only. You passed the cranberry to her. Clinking glasses with Boba, you sipped your libation politely as you sat down on the sofa next to him. It was very small. Perfect.
She stopped on a porno channel that was blocked by the hotel. “Don’t even make a joke!” You called out, nearly spilling your beverage. Your friend and Boba laughed in unison. “You know me so well,” she continued channel surfing.
Boba turned to you, “Uh, how do I get in contact with HR?” You laughed, “I think you’d report me over her…”
He grinned, “I’m only gonna report unwelcome advances…”
“Omigosh you hoes,” she commented, sipping her cranberry.
Boba laughed, then inched towards you on the sofa so that your legs touched gently. “She knows, huh.”
”Girl talk, my dude,” she explained for you.
He grinned. “Welllll I guess I’m alright then, cause you invited me over.”
”Technically, you invited yourself,” you countered teasingly.
“I guess that’s true. But you accepted my offerings and let me in though,” he rebutted.
You giggled with your friend, “We did. You’re ‘alright’ then I guess.”
“That’s good to hear,” he sipped his drink.
You felt a ripple of tension in the air, just for a moment. You looked over at him. He was eyeing you intensely. Feeling hot and bothered, you sipped your drink to try to calm down. But the alcohol went to your brain and you said, “In fact, I rate you higher than ‘alright.’”
Your friend giggled darkly, “I gotta uh, pee.” She jumped up and ran into the bathroom. Boba was still looking at you. He set his drink down and leaned over. Grabbing your knee, he quickly slid his hand up your thigh. Kissing you, he pushed you back into the sofa pillow.
“I’d fuck you right here if she wasn’t in the bathroom,” he purred into your ear. You started to mumble about a quickie, but his phone rang. “Shit, that’s work… do I have to answer it?” He ground his thick cock into your pussy. Remembering how it felt last night, you wrapped your legs around him. He started to rut into you, groaning your name softly. His phone stopped ringing. Relieved, you whispered, “Fuck me, I need to feel your cock in me.” Grunting, his hand went for his pants. His phone rang again. “Shit.” He paused, uncertain.
It continued ringing. “Shit.” He sat up. Sighing, he composed himself, then answered, “Hi, what’s up?”
You laid there, ready to be ravished and trying to not overhear the conversation.
“Oh, nothing… just hanging out with some of our colleagues, you know.” He paused while the caller apparently spoke.
“Oh, I dunno, we’re in someone’s room. I don’t think I can invite people.” You sat up, worried. Boba continued to evade, “Well what time is it? We only have 20 minutes until closing session today anyway. How about I see you there?” You composed yourself and took a sip of your drink.
“Okay, bye. Okay. Can’t wait. Bye.” He hung up.
“Hm. We should check on your friend… she’s been in there for a minute.”
”She’s probably puking,” you laughed.
He smiled, “Poor thing. She’s really hanging in there, though. Tough.”
You smiled back. He rubbed your knee. “See you both at dinner? I, uh… wanna go to the bar with you ladies afterwards, again. If you want.”
“Totally,” you got hot and shy. He laughed, “Well don’t volunteer her just yet, she’s still reeling from last night.”
His phone rang again. It was a different ringtone. “That’s the CEO ring tone, I really gotta take this one,” he stood, grabbing the remote to mute the TV. You got up and went to the bathroom while he answered with a chipper greeting.
You knocked on the door. Your friend opened it up. “Omigosh, what happened,” she whispered. You pushed yourself inside and closed the door. “He’s on the phone with our CEO now. Before someone else called him, he’s gonna sit with them during the closing session. But then he wants to have dinner and drinks with us,” you ended, pleased.
“Oh shit, I don’t think I can handle drinks again,” she muttered.
”Okay, we’ll just give you juice like this time,” you returned, “Please come.”
”Alright, but I’m not 3. No juice; I’ll take a soda or something adult. Just… nonalcoholic.”
You nodded, but before you could speak there was a knock at the door. You opened it a crack, “What’s the password?”
“Girl power?”
You all laughed before he apologized, “I gotta run, I gotta meet with the CEO for a couple minutes before closing session. See you for dinner?”
“You betcha,” Your friend blurted out.
“Cool. Okay see you then.” He was out the door in a flash, in a hurry.
“Okay. So, did you or did you not make out?”
You turned to her, “Well.”
She laughed triumphantly, “I knew it… he was all of a sudden really hot for you. It was totally noticeable.”
You got hot again. “Really?”
“Yup. Anyway, let’s head down. I want to grab a seat in the back row so we can be first to grab a nice table. I want one by the fountain; it’ll be So Romantic you know?”
”Especially with you there,” you laughed.
“Shut up, B—, I’m getting you laid again.”
“Love you,” you smiled. “Let’s head out.”
***
Boba ended up having a dinner meeting with the CEO and COO. He had text his apologies.
-still drinks later though? 🥺
You smiled before showing it to your friend. You discussed what to say before you typed back.
-totally. come and find our twosome and make it a threesome
“Was that too much?” You looked at her.
She smiled mischievously over her plate. “Too late now. Look, you sent him a nude photo already. It’s more than fine.”
-i like your math. C u later 🥂
You both smiled at his response. “He’s so cute,” she commented before going off to grab you both desserts. It was donuts and you both loved glazed more than anything.
***
You were on your second drink. Your friend coached you, “Okay. See Miss BP over there? You gotta text him and tell him where we are. That way he comes right over here, rather than looking around and potentially seeing her. She’ll totally rope him into sitting at that table.”
You nodded. “Okay, what do I say?” You slurred.
-we’re in the back of the bar, next to the neon sign. We got you a drink. It’s a surprise.
“Now seal the deal, send him another nude.” She ordered a fancy drink with a straw and pineapple slice for him.
Slightly tipsy, you took her utterly seriously. You scrolled your camera roll for a full minute before selecting one of you in lingerie. You only had taken them because you had been pleasantly surprised by the online purchase. The bra and panties set fit like they were tailored for you.
You edited it to give it a nice, subtle vignette. You sent it.
“Did you really send one?” She sounded astonished. “Damn, you are really surprising me here.”
You shrugged and stared at your phone, waiting for a response.
The surprise drink came. You took a photo of it and sent it to him as well. You added another invitation.
-cum 4 me
You sipped your drink while your friend demanded to see what you’d just sent him.
“I saw you hit send, now show me what filth you’ve sent.”
Suddenly your phone buzzed.
“Ah, is it him, shit, omigosh okay stay calm,” she babbled.
“Sip your juice,” you commented as you checked the message.
-stop it ur making me hard af 🥵
Smiling smugly, you finished your drink. Your friend ordered you a water. Gratefully, you drank it while you both reread the conversation. “You whore,” she commented lovingly, “I’m so fuckin’ proud of you.”
A new message arrived.
-i had to excuse myself 2 bathroom… u r so bad i love it
-im cumming… lol. C u very soon. 🏃‍♂️
“Omigosh.” Your friend started talking up a storm, speaking in low, excited tones. You listened as you hydrated yourself. You wanted to be ready for one more drink before Boba arrived.
You both casually turned towards the bar entrance when you had softly exclaimed, “Oh!” Upon seeing him enter. He looked straight at you. Your friend waved. He made his way over hurriedly. You eyed Miss BP out of the corner of your eye. She was trying to get his attention. He either didn’t notice or was feigning ignorance. You grinned to yourself and ordered a third drink.
Boba laughed when presented with his drink. “Alright, this looks good. I’ll try it.” He pulled up a barstool and sat between the two of you.
“Everything okay? Those meetings seemed pretty serious.”
Boba sipped his drink. “Yeah, just a new client that was unexpected. So we had to discuss positioning. And now I’m giving a 30 minute Powerpoint tomorrow at 1PM.”
”Oooh, fuck. Brutal,” Your friend commented.
“I know. I’m… not very excited about it, but it’s really my first chance to show what I can do so I gotta be good. Only this one lovely drink, then I’m heading up to prepare for this damn thing.”
You both commiserated with him for a few minutes before he changed the topic. You debated pros and cons of remote work. Eventually his drink was gone. He excused himself, “Goodnight, ladies. I have a couple hours of work ahead of me tonight. I need it ready by 10AM for everyone to review. Wish me luck!”
You swooned after him as your friend wished him luck. With that he was off. You sat back and ordered another water. While you waited, your friend tugged on your arm. “Miss BP! She’s gone! Did she leave with him??”
Your eyes grew wide. No.
A continuation from this
Freddie: …
Roger: *eating breakfast*
Freddie: …
Roger: *pauses eating his breakfast and takes a sip of coffee, then notices Freddie looking at him* morning?
Freddie: Roger, dear, don’t take this the wrong way… but why the fuck do you stink of lavender?
Roger: *puts down his coffee and sighs* my hot water bottle smells of lavender
Freddie: right…
Roger: It made me smell of lavender. I had a shower but… I think the whole room ended up smelling of lavender so… it just went back on to me. *goes back to eating his breakfast*
Brian comes ambling in with his breakfast from the buffet table and sits down next to Freddie.
Freddie: Oh god you too
Brian: Me too what?
Freddie: Is your nose burnt out? You smell of lavender as well.
Brian: … i do? 😳 Ahhhh... I can explain. *panicked explanation* You see, err, well- I mean. Because Roger has a hot water bottle, and it smells of lavender
Freddie: ... yes....
Roger: *Slowly looks at Brian, bewildered at his panicked reaction*
Brian: And well, it's- I- Roger- He- And... I suppose because of the- because- I was very respectful and I absolutely did not- it- I fell asleep straight away. And- er.... *desperation*🤯
Freddie: …. I think you mean to say, The hot water bottle has made the room smell of fucking lavender so therefore you smell of fucking lavender. It’s not rocket science, dear. It’s a fucking awfully strong smell.
Brian: *relieved* Oh. Well. Yes. He- *looks at Roger* there you go. *lamely* You made everything smell of lavender. Including me....
Roger: Yeah. I know…🤔
Freddie: … are you alright, Bri, dear? The way you’re reacting you think I’d accused you of bathing in Roger’s sweaty lavender scented bedsheets.
Brian: 😳 i would never! I mean, yugh, that wouldn’t be… that would be disgusting. I'm eating my breakfast, here.
Roger: … 🤨….
Freddie: 😐
Brian: How’s the scrambled eggs?
Roger: *Looks between Brian, to Freddie, back to Brian, back to Freddie, down at his own plate, back to Brian* 🤨 they’re good, yeah.
Freddie: I don’t know, I haven’t had any 😐
Brian: good good…. Good… good…. *eats his breakfast*
Freddie: what were we saying?
Roger: We stink of lavender?
Freddie: Oh that’s right. Do something about that before we get on the bus, will you? I can’t face the idea of being in a hot bus with sweat, fart and lavender all day. Maybe have another shower. Both of you.
*Brian chokes on the scrambled eggs*
Roger looks at Brian.
Freddie looks at Brian.
Freddie: ... I didn't mean together, dear. Brian, honestly, what the fuck?
Brian: Right. Yeah. Sorry, i'm fine. Eggs went down the wrong way
(Brian is not fine).
Roger, back to Freddie: you’ll become nose blind to it soon. Brian has.
Brian: hmmhmm
Freddie: Hmm… we’ll see....
Stockholm Week 14: Best Attractions in Iceland
Our core spent nearly an entire week exploring Iceland in diverse ways!
We arrived in Iceland on Sunday and started the first full day on Monday.
4/15 Mon: I ate FERMENTED shark (as if eating a shark was not eccentric enough)
It was a relatively late morning, schedule starting at 10 am. We went down to eat breakfast at the hotel around 9 am. All the food was high quality, which was something unexpected. I exploited the buffet and ended up with 5 plates to return.
It was time for our first academic visit, The Iceland Ocean Cluster. It was a collaboration center for start-up companies using byproducts of fish. A lot of products are made from parts such as fish skin and liver, previously thrown away without use. Some examples were Omega 3, hand cream, fish-skin wallet, and energy drinks.
Tumblr media
Group picture taken by DIS!
Our second academic visit of the day was an informational lecture at the City of Reykjavik - we got to listen to how the city of Reykjavik is working with environmental protection, urban planning, waste management, and climate action.
Tumblr media
The paper bag drama
Right after the presentation, we spontaneously entered a thrift store across the street, and wow. Everything they had was in good condition and high quality. There were so many good shoes in particular - my friend found Dr Martin for $40 like what??? I also got Nike sneakers and Vagabond sandals for less than $60, which is a deal. They were as good as new!
For dinner, DIS scheduled a Reykjavik Food Walking Tour. A fun local guide told us Icelandic myths, history, and backgrounds of the foods that we ate that day! Some things that we ate were: lamb and salmon tartar, lamb hotdog, lamb stew, Icelandic sauces and jams, fermented shark, and blueberry yogurt cheesecake dessert.
Tumblr media
Celebrities from all over the world comes to that specific hotdog stand to try!
We got to feed the birds and swans on the lake with leftover bread that was given along with the stew. We were surrounded by all of them, unable to escape.
Tumblr media
The seagulls were lowkey mean to the other birds, snatching the food away
The guide mentally and physically prepared us for the shark, teaching us when and how to breathe before eating the shark. It didn’t taste too bad (a little fishy?) to my surprise but maybe because they let us drink a shot afterward.
Tumblr media
Face with mixed feelings of fear, excitement, and curiosity
The tour took around 4 hours but it was a cool experience! I mean, where else would I be able to casually eat a fermented shark?
Tumblr media
This is going off on a tangent but I wanted to share this: they have 10-11 instead of 7-11  ( ˙◞˙ )
4/16 Tue: Glacier Hiking !0!
The grand activity of the study tour, the South Coast and Glacier Hiking!!!
It was around two-hours of bus ride, but the scenery on the way there was magnificent. Windows background photos were moving in front of my eyes!
Tumblr media
Spectacular views
Everyone was so excited to hike on Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier. The local guide who led the way was super friendly and attentive  :)
Tumblr media
Class photo!
I could not believe that I was hiking on the glaciers, and sometimes I think that it was a daydream. What a surreal experience (for free too)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credit of last two pictures to DIS!
On the way back, we stopped at two waterfalls. I can vividly picture the first waterfall, Skógafoss, in my mind. It was just stunning. My friend and I ran towards it and ended up getting soaked up ヽ(´▽`)ノ
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything was fun at the moment
Even better, a double rainbow popped up as soon as the sun came out. I haven’t seen such a vibrant rainbow in a while - pure happiness rushed to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t exactly know why but I love this place with all my heart
I should live close to some kind of waterfall when I get older. The joy nature brings me is beyond belief.
We had another group dinner near our hotel. The hotel we stayed at was in the city center; all the stores and restaurants were nearby! From the prices on the menu, we concluded that Iceland is very pricey.
4/17 Wed: Geothermal Greenhouse
Wednesday's main visit in my opinion was going to Friðheimar Geothermal Greenhouse. We learned about their ways of growing tomatoes in their greenhouse. They also had hives of bumblebees! It was good to see a lot of bees since we don’t see them as often anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All I wanted to do was to pick the tomatoes... But as a grown-up, I restricted myself
For lunch, they served a whole cuisine: grilled tomatoes and meat/vegetable skewers, tomato soup with huge loaves of cheese/olive bread, and cheesecake with tomato jam (better than it sounds)! If I hadn’t eaten so much for breakfast, I would’ve devoured more bread and soup :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cheesecake was served in a pot! Isn't that so cute
With our full tummies, we headed to the Geothermal Exhibition. Iceland produces 100% of its electricity from renewable energy from hydro and geothermal power from the volcanoes. We got to closely look around the power plant and get descriptions from one of the employees.
Sci-fi movies could film here
The rest of the afternoon and evening were on our own, so we went on a souvenir-shop tour around our neighborhood. I bought a cute Viking shot glass as a present for my younger brother. I tried one of the 70% dark chocolate too and it was AMAZING. It was so rich in flavor ( ˶ˆ⤙ˆ˵ )
For dinner, my friend and I went to the first ramen place in Iceland and oh my gosh it was the best ramen I’ve ever had in Europe.
4/18 Thu: Golden Circle Tour: Secret Lagoon, Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park
In the Iceland itinerary, a highlighted note read “Please bring your swimming clothes!” We got to swim in the Secret Lagoon, the oldest swimming pool in Iceland! It was filled with warm water from the hot (100+ degrees Celsius) springs nearby.
Certain parts of the pool were full of algae, offering an oddly pleasant texture. It reminded me of the polar plunging + sauna experience in Umeå. Basking in the warmth of the pool was a relaxing experience.
I want to jump in right now
After the rejuvenating swim, we headed to Geysir. There were multiple active geysers, one of which shot water 30 meters up into the air.
Tumblr media
This is a small geyser - doesn’t it look like a tiny water fountain?
The next stop was Gullfoss, which was the most famous waterfall in Iceland. It is known as the “golden waterfall,” featuring a cascade of waterfalls one after another.
Tumblr media
The picture didn't do a good job capturing the magnitude of the waterfalls
The last official stop of the study tour was the Thingvellir National Park, which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Typical bathroom views
The park had multiple attractions such as the site of Iceland’s first parliament. A group of us headed towards the valley separating North America and Eurasia. The water we encountered was exceptionally clear like a reflection from a mirror.
Iceland = nature.
To celebrate the successful end of the study tour and a friend’s 21st birthday, DIS arranged an hour of karaoke for our class. We had so much fun that we ended up extending by an hour  ᖗ( ᐛ )ᖘ  The Mickey sparkly special glitter something shot (apparently their signature shot) was truly delightful.
4/19-22 Fri-Mon: Facing My Consequences
We met at the hotel lobby at 4:15 am to catch our 7 am flight… Let me just say that I passed out on the plane (sleepwise). However, it was nice to arrive in Stockholm in the early afternoon; I had an unbelievable amount of work to do.
All I did on the weekend was sleep, eat, and study for the exam for my online Reactions course. When my brain got fried, I did other work for DIS courses and blogs. Assignments and group projects and presentations and essays and exams are flooding in until the end of the semester!
In the next few weeks, you will see me balancing between traveling and school work. I will try my best not to get too overwhelmed with school!
Thank you for reading ♡
This is the first time we have flown with Qatar Airlines looking forward to our flight to Norway. The plane was a lot smaller then we imagined with aisles and seating very narrow. The meals far from inspiring but on the whole was an okay flight. The stop in Doha well worth it walking through a man made forest making this one of the best airports in the world. Flying in and out of Doha you get to see miles and miles of development with a lot of land reclaiming. This place smells of oil money. Hahaa
Flying into Oslo you see snow covered fields and towns creating a calming and beautiful view. One just needs to remember that with such a beautiful scene comes cold and I mean cold (minus 5 on landing) This airport is the longest (walking time) we have ever visited with the actual distance from our plane to the new plane nearly half a kilometre. Did not do us any harm, after over twenty two hours in flight.
A quick stop we finally boarded our much smaller plane to Bergen the self proclaimed rainiest place in Norway. Rains here 270 days on average every year. Our motel is on the water and centrally located with snow and water surrounding it.
Given that it is like an oasis one should expect things to be a little more costly but A$23 a schooner is ridiculous but it is what it is. This was in preparation to our A$45 hamburgers. Hunger and thirst are hard to over come so after nearly A$200 we retired for the night. Turned out not that thirsty. Hahaha
I must say though that breakfast here is amazing. So many varieties of fish on offer and all tasting better then the last. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we have ever visited and if this is an example of the seafood we are to experience in Norway life is going to be great. So much seafood and so little time to eat it in.
Did the mandatory bus trip around the city and it is a beautiful place with most buildings made of wood. Walked through the old town and saw what life must have been like when fishing for cod was the main industry. Lots of artists etc and saw only one street person. Guess it’s to cold.
The cloud this morning was very low and you can not see across the river but as the afternoon grew the cloud lifted and as dusk set in the darkish mountains surrounding the city with their scattered building and lights has a moment that was so picturesque one had to stand and admire. Did another walk through the backstreets where old blended into the new and every bar and coffee shop is full. The streets are all cobble stone which is a huge pain and everything is wet. Lots of parks and statues.
Our tour had also taken us to the newest brewery here and what a great surprise. Given a very cold stubby on arrival followed by three glasses of other varieties including the “Ginger Ninja” which was amazing. Will definitely buy if it ever gets to Australia. Flavour without excess bitterness that you get to enjoy no matter how fast you drink. The company did not do a hard sell but merely trying to get their name out there to travellers. Would do this tour again at the drop of a hat.
Eating is done early over here, guessing due to the cold outside, so off we went to the “winter “seafood markets for tea. The selection is huge with most still alive in tanks for your selection. A couple we had met wanted to eat at particular restaurant so off we went. Did I mention how expensive it is here to eat and drink. Basically fish and chips with one beer we spent another A$200. Can not wait to get to the ship.
Took the time to catch the local cable car to top of biggest local mountain to view the city. Water everywhere with local ponds frozen over. Well worth the effort as the view is stunning. A lot colder up there with snow and ice all around. Our last morning saw us walk through the local city markets and we also have seen the sun come out and we are now at 1-1 degrees. Summer is coming.
Our trip so far has been great with new experiences and while not happy with prices and constant cold (seriously it has not gotten above minus 4 even getting to minus 10 early this morning)we are enjoying the tour. It is so cold that walking one hour is your limit before you have to go indoors to recharge. Looking forward to going to the ship this afternoon.
Chapter - 15
(Ella's POV)
I woke to a ship’s whistle & a voice on the intercom-some guy with an Australian accent who sounded way too happy.
“Good morning, passengers! We’ll be at sea all day today. Excellent weather for the poolside mambo party! Don’t forget million-dollar bingo in the Lounge at one o’clock, & for our special guests, disemboweling practice on the Promenade!”
Annie sat up in bed. “What did he say?”
I groaned, still half asleep & mumbled.
“The happy guy said...bowling practice?”
Annabeth stuck her head in the suite where Percy & Tyson were & said.
“Disemboweling practice?”
Once we were all dressed, we ventured out into the ship & were surprised to see other people. A dozen senior citizens were heading to breakfast.
A dad was taking his kids to the pool for a morning swim. Crew members in crisp white uniforms strolled the deck, tipping their hats to the passengers.
Nobody asked who we were. Nobody paid us much attention. But something was wrong.
As the family of swimmers passed us, the dad told his kids: “We are on a cruise. We are having fun.”
“Yes,” his three kids said in unison, their expressions blank. “We are having a blast. We will swim in the pool.” They wandered off.
“Good morning,” a crew member told us, his eyes glazed. “We are all enjoying ourselves aboard the Princess Andromeda. Have a nice day.” He drifted away.
“Guys? Is it just me? Or do you guys feel like this is weird,” I whispered. “They’re all in some kind of trance.” No one answered me.
Then we passed a cafeteria & saw our first monster. It was a hellhound-a black mastiff with its front paws up on the buffet line & its muzzle buried in the scrambled eggs. It must’ve been young, because it was small compared to most-no bigger than a grizzly bear. Still, my blood turned cold. I’d almost gotten killed by one of those before.
The weird thing was: a middle-aged couple was standing in the buffet line right behind the devil dog, patiently waiting their turn for the eggs. They didn’t seem to notice anything out of the ordinary.
“Not hungry anymore,” Tyson murmured.
Before any of us could reply, a reptilian voice came from down the corridor, “Ssssix more joined yesssterday.”
Annie gestured frantically towards the nearest hiding place-the women’s room-& all three of us ducked inside.
Something-or more like two somethings- slithered past the bathroom door, making sounds like sandpaper against the carpet.
“Yesss,” a second reptilian voice said. “He drawssss them. Ssssoon we will be sssstrong.”
The things slithered in the cafeteria with a cold hissing that might have been snake laughter.
Annie said. “We have to get out of here.”
“You think I want to be in the girls’ restroom?” Percy asked.
I stifled a laugh & said, “She means the ship, Percy! We have to get off the ship.”
“Smells bad,” Tyson agreed. “And dogs eat all the eggs. Annabeth is right. We must leave the restroom & ship.”
Then I heard another voice outside-one that chilled me worse than any monster’s.
“-only a matter of time. Don’t push me, Agrius!”
It was Luke, beyond a doubt. I'd never forget his voice.
“I’m not pushing you!” another guy growled. His voice was deeper & even angrier than Luke’s. “I’m just saying, if this gamble doesn’t pay off-“
“It’ll pay off,” Luke snapped. “They’ll take the bait. Now, come, we’ve got to get to the admiralty suite ^ check on the casket.”
Their voices receded down the corridor.
Tyson whimpered. “Leave now?”
Percy, Annie & I exchanged looks & came to a silent agreement.
“We can’t,” I told Tyson.
“We have to find out what Luke is up to.” Percy said.
“And if possible, we’re going to beat him up, bind him in chains, and drag him to Mount Olympus.” Annie added.
Annie volunteered to go alone since she had the cap of invisibility, but I convinced her it was too dangerous. Either we went together, or nobody went.
“Nobody!” Tyson voted. “Please?”
But in the end he came along, nervously chewing on his huge fingernails.
We stopped at our cabin long enough to gather our stuff. We figured that we would not be staying another night aboard the zombie cruise ship, even if they did have million-dollar bingo.
I didn’t want Tyson to carry everything, but he insisted, & Annie told us not to worry about it. Tyson could carry three full duffel bags over his shoulder as easily as I could carry a backpack.
We sneaked through the corridors, following the ship’s YOU ARE HERE signs toward the admiralty suite.
Annabeth scouted ahead invisibly. We hid whenever someone passed by, but most of the people we saw were just glassy-eyed zombie passengers.
As we came up the stairs to deck thirteen, where the admiralty suite was supposed to be, Annie hissed, “Hide!” & shoved us into a supply closet. I heard a couple of guys coming down the hall.
“You see that Aethiopian drakon in the cargo hold?” one of them said.
The other laughed. “Yeah, it’s awesome.”
I held Percy's arm & squeezed it. That voice sounded familiar...
“I hear they got two more coming,” the familiar voice said. “They keep arriving at this rate, oh, man-no contest!”
The voices faded down the corridor.
“That was Chris Rodriguez!” I said. “You remember-from Cabin Eleven.”
I knew Chris from the summer before. He was one of those undetermined campers who got stuck in the Hermes cabin because his Olympian dad or mom never claimed him.
Now that I thought about it, I realized I hadn’t seen Chris at camp this summer. “What’s another half-blood doing here?” Percy asked.
Annie shook her head, clearly troubled. We kept going down the corridor. I didn’t need maps anymore to know I was getting close to Luke. I sensed something cold & unpleasant-the presence of evil.
“Guys,” Annie stopped suddenly. “Look.”
She stood in front of a glass wall looking down into the multistory canyon that ran through the middle of the ship.
At the bottom was the Promenade-a mall full of shops-but that’s not what caught Annie’s attention. A group of monsters had assembled in front of the candy store: a dozen Laistrygonian giants, two hellhounds, & a few strang creatures-humanoid females with two serpent tails instead of legs.
“Scythian Dracaenae,” Annabeth whispered.
“Dragon women.” I muttered.
The monsters made a semicircle around a young guy in Greek armor who was hacking on a straw dummy. A lump formed in my throat when I realized the dummy was wearing an orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt.
As we watched, the guy in armor stabbed the dummy through its belly & ripped upward. Straw flew everywhere. The monsters cheered & howled. Annie stepped away from the window. Her face was ashen.
“Come on,” Percy told us. “The sooner we find Luke the better.”
At the end of the hallway were double oak doors that looked like they must lead somewhere important. When we were thirty feet away, Tyson stopped.
“Voices inside.”
“You can hear that far?” I asked.
Tyson closed his eye like he was concentrating hard. Then his voice changed, becoming a husky approximation of Luke’s. “-the prophecy ourselves. The fools won’t know which way to turn.”
Before I could react, Tyson’s voice changed again, becoming deeper & gruffer, like the other guy we’d heard talking to Luke outside the cafeteria. “You really think the old horseman is gone for good?”
Tyson laughed Luke’s laugh. “They can’t trust him. Not with the skeletons in his closet. The poisoning of the tree was the final straw.”
Annie shivered. “Stop that, Tyson! How do you do that? It’s creepy.”
Tyson opened his eye & looked puzzled. “Just listening.”
“Keep going,” Percy said. “What else are they saying?”
Tyson closed his eye again.
He hissed in the gruff man’s voice: “Quiet!”
Then Luke’s voice, whispered: “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Tyson said in the gruff voice. “Right outside.”
Too late, I realized what was happening.
I just had time to say, “Run!” when the doors of the stateroom burst open & there was Luke, flanked by two hairy giants with javelins, the bronze tips aimed at our chests.
“Well,” Luke said with a crooked grin. “If it isn’t my three favourite people. Come in.”
February 12th, 13th, 14th, Varadero
15th, Varadero to Home
12th
Slept in and then wandered down to breakfast. Sat down with the Concierge to book our dinners for the week. Tonight was full at all the specialty restaurants but Monday we are at the International (French) and Tuesday the Italian restaurant. Japanese was booked. Then headed to the beach and spent the morning down there. The water is a beautiful turquoise colour, however it is very windy and the water is choppy. Lunch at the sports bar, burger and fries and lemonade. Then walked around and found chairs by the pool, where we swam, read and people watched. Larry went to inquire about deep sea fishing. $450.00 US and sail fish not in season, probably only catch Dorado. Opted not to go. Broke my croc flip flops. Dinner at the buffet was excellent. Checked out the sports bar with the big screen tv. Decided to go back to our room to watch the game. Larry has caught a chill. It has been very windy and cool this evening, I wore a sweater. Super Bowl game was on the tv with the Commentator speaking in Cuban Spanish. When the score was 14/14 Larry feel asleep so I turned it off and read.
13th
Up just after 8:00 and went for breakfast. Bit of a shamozzel this morning, they ran out of plates so breakfast took awhile. After breakfast we changed and walked from here down the peninsula to the Marina and the shops. Once this was a stop for cruise ships. Trump cancelled all cruise ship stops to Cuba but I don’t know if Biden has rescinded that law. Anyway tons of shops and restaurants and no customers. Finally found a shop that sold little tshirts (first one in Cuba) $20 US of size 3. I chose not to purchase. Also found a shop that sold jewellery with supposedly black coral imbedded in the silver pieces. Black coral is an endangered spices and not permitted back in Canada. Don’t know about other countries. Walked back from the marina, changed to our suits and today found a lounging bed with a canopy by the pool. No getting burnt this morning anyway. Lunch and more sitting by the pool. There were dancing lessons and competitions today by the pool. Very entertaining. There is a large and I mean very large Spanish man and he is always dancing and boy can he move. Went back to our room to dress for dinner, we have dinner reservations at the Marseille restaurant. We have Greek salad, chicken salad and Cordon Bleu and Chicken and rice dish with peach pie. Beautiful dinner.
14th
Up for breakfast and then walked a bit before heading to the pool area. Characters dressed a Cupid and love gods walking around handing out flowers. Spent sometime talking with a couple and their sister from Montreal. Larry has made some friends from Alberta and Whitby, Barrie area. Lunch was sparse today, wondering what is happening. This afternoon by the pool, there was synchronized swimming, aerial acrobatics with ribbons, dancing and acrobatic flips and such. Wonderful afternoon of entertainment for Valentine’s Day. Dinner was at the Italian restaurant where they served a 5 course dinner. Beautifully prepared and delicious. Walked back to our room. The evening are very cool.
15th
Breakfasted, gathered up our stuff and hopped in a taxi for 10:00 to the airport. Our flight was for 1:55 pm so we looked for food and souvenirs in the airport. Food very sparse and no T-shirt’s that were appropriate for my monkeys. Flight was on time and Scoop staff were great, plane was new, clean and comfortable. We arrived on time and luggage was there when we arrived at the carousel. We had two medical emergencies during the flight that required the paramedics to come on board before we could deplane. It appeared both ladies would be okay, we hope. Grabbed a taxi to our park and fly hotel as we didn’t want to wait. Went for dinner at the Kelsey’s near the hotel where we had a great dinner. Drove home through high winds but arrived home safe and sound just before 10:00 pm. Looked like high winds at home had taken down the eavestrough on the garage.
Great trip, glad to be home.
Long live the king - Louis x reader pt.2
This is part 2. I really hope yall like it ^^
Word count: 2247
Kingdom Masterlist
Pt.1
Louis Pov.
We all were ahooked when our enemies got send flying and knocked out from her powers. //she can't control them which means she doesn't know anything about them..// we all turned to her looking if she was alright only to run towards her to stop her from hitting the ground. I used my time control to stop time and get faster to her. After I let time go normal again, I catched her just before her head could hit the ground.
"Should we bring then to the Hotel or should we take them to the Palace?" Dann asked. I picked the girl up "we'll bring them to the Palace, it's to dangerous to let then stay at the hotel." I said. And added "and Mujin, Jahan. Please get their things from the hotel, they'll stay at the palace for the time being" both of them nodded and made their way to the Hotel. While the rest of us took both of them back to the Palace.
Time skip next day in the Palace.
We brought everyone of them in their own rooms and I ordered each 4 guards to watch them.
I was awake the whole night. Thinking about possible ways to find out how much of Jaehyns people are here. //damn we need to keep them save. And now that they have their proof that she's the one their searching for its even more dangerous... why do I care about that??..// I sighted, run a hand over my face and looked out the window..... // I need to ask Dann what that feeling is.. sometimes I really hate my dad for raising me like this...// I got up and got charged, just as I was about to leave my room the door banged open "she's awake sir." The guard said. I looked at him " Ok I'll be right there" He nodded and disappeared again. // I'll ask Dann later about it.// I went to her room and knocked. I silent 'come in' came and I stepped in the room. Two of our maids helped her sitting up "Good morning your majesty, she weaker then we thought she would be. She can barely walk on her on. We helped her change out of the clothes from yesterday and helped her cleaning herself. We'll go and make her breakfast." They both putted the last cushions behind her back, bowed to both of us and left.
"How are you feeling?" I stepped closer to the bed and sat on the chair next to it " it's ok, I just feel so tired but I can't sleep. And I have a light headache" she smiled at me "Thank you for saving me" //shes so pretty and her smile is cute. What am I thinking?// I smiled slightly back "no need to thank us, btw what is your name?" She looked at me titled her head slightly. "OH I'm really sorry.. my name is Y/N, Y/N L/N" "pretty name. Fits you" she blushed looked down to her hands. I chuckled. Just as I was to say something else someone knocked the door "Your majesty ? Y/N ? Can we come in we have the breakfast finished. " "You can come in" I said, stood up and opened the door for them since I know they tend to slightly make to much food for one person or also in general. And as I thought it's more of a buffet for 10 people then for one. "You know she probably won't eat that much." One of them turned to me and smiled "oh its not just for her, it's also for you your majesty, since her best friend was awake earlier then her he already got breakfast" I nodded and went to the chair next to her bed again. The build up a bedtable so she would have to leave bed while I stayed at the table next to the bed.
As they have sat the last plate down, I dismissed them and they left the room again.
"That is really a lot" I heard next to me. " That's normal. You don't have to eat everything, the rest will be Givin for the breakfast round for those people on town who can't afford as much as we do, so there won't go anything to waste." She looked at me and smiled again "I really wish it be everywhere like this" with that she began to eat and so did I.
The breakfast was one of the nicest I've had in a long time shes really bubbly which is a change from most of the other people I've met. As we talked about a lot of things one thing got my attention the most which was her interest in History, myths, rumors and fairytales of different cultures. That's also when I found out the truth about their lost being the day before. " and ill be honest with you we didn't really got lost, we found something that I wanted to know if it was true. But he definitely hadn't the intention to break thing or steal things." I was first confused " what do you mean by that.? What exactly did you find?" She then took out a old letter and handed it me. "I Asked the maids to give me the letter from my backpack before. I don't like lying to people especially since you saved my life." I looked at the letter then back at her " There is something described in the letter and I wanted to know if it's true." She looked down.
I opend the letter after a few more seconds of looking at her. I read the letter and then realized what letter it was " how did you get that letter" she looked at me now fear in her eyes. Yes I was angry but not at her. "W-we got that from Birans dad, his dad has gotten the letter from a friend of his" I took a deep breath "first of all sorry I didn't mean to scare you and secondly the letter got stolen a few weeks ago. It was never supposed to leave the Palace.. if not you but someone else would have gotten their hands on the letter we all would be in deep trouble." I ran a hand trough my hair. And watched her closely, she relaxed again. "I'm sorry.." she mumbled and looked down. "It's ok, I mean you didn't knew. " I reached out to her and padded her head. She looked up at me and in that moment I knew I still had a heart because it broke at the sight of her crying. I sad down on the bed next to her "Hey why are you crying?" I looked in her eyes " I- it's just that since I lost my parents everything I do is wrong in everyone's eyes.... and it's even worse when I do mistakes like this..." I was shooked at least to say " It's not your fault, and I'm not mad I promise" she nodded and I took her in my arms where I rested my head kn top of hers..//seems like she's been trought a lot...// " you don't ever need to be scared of me ok?" I felt her nod. I held her for a long time more.
She fell asleep again so I laid her down and put the blanket over her. I made sure to call the guards back and the maids to clean her room.
After that I went off to find Dann and ask him about what feeling I was having when I'm with her.
Time skip evening.
Y/N Pov.
I woke up and looked around. I was still in the room, I must have fallen asleep again. I thought about what happend and blushed madly. //oh shit...that's do embarrassing... but I felt comforteble with the king... weird I know...// I took a look out of the window.. It was slowly getting dark... I looked at my phone which charged on the nightstand. 05.37pm.... //theres no way im going back to sleep...// I stood up, feeling how my legs didn't really have any strengh, I still kept going, I had a really bad feeling and wanted to see King Louis. I slowly opened the door and saw that the guards wheren't there. //no no no thats bad really bad...// Panic began to slowly run trough my veins.. //shit. shit, shit. I need to find him.// I tried to walk faster and it worked, probably because of the adrenaline. I saw a door slightly open. At this point I was already running. and the figure that has been standing infront of one of the windows didnt do any help to my Panic and fear. I heard two voices, one that I didn't know and //Louis!// I reached for the door and then I felt super light headed //Now I know why I was told to stay in bed fuck// Again I fell, just this time I stayed conscious, bad thing I fell trought the door and it banged open. I couldn't move to see who was in the room so I stayed on the floor.
"Y/N!!!" I heard foodsteps coming closer. I felt two arms pulling me slightly up. "Why aren't you in bed, how you were told to??!!" he was angry i could tell even thought he spoke calmy the tone in his voice showed that he was anrgy. "Louis calm down and maybe at least get her on a chair insted of letting her on the cold floor" The other one spoke //Damns their all pretty handsome wtf// Louis liftet me up and put me on one of the couch chairs in the room.
"Dann can you please close the door?" The other nodded and did what Louis asked him for. Dann also gave me a glass of water and Louis a blanket, then both of them got a better look on me and their eyes widden in shook "Y/N what happend? why are you so paniced?" Dann asked I looked at him both of them crouched down on each side of the chair. "I- there was no one in front of my door and there was wśomeone at the window. I got scared and yeah..." I looked down at the glass "Wait there was no on infront of your door?" Louis asked and i shook my head. "Wait, there were supposed to be two gurads." Dann said and looked at Louis. "Could you make anything out what the person from the window looked like or did you see something that you remember?" I tought "He had something red on but I couldn't see more. " Dann nodded "I go get the others to search for the guards and maybe some glues on who that was. It would be better if she'd stay with you for this night" He clealry ment it more as an order then a request but Louis agreed with him. With that Dann went out of the room closing the door behind him. now i was alone with Louis. "I'm sorry..." I looked at the glass again. "It nohing to be sorry about you helpt us finding the traitors." "But now i have to stay here and I'll defenetly be a bother to you." he looked at me confused "Your not a bother to me" I looked up. "I'm not? Are you sure?" He smiled and nodded "I'm 100% sure" I smiled at him. "So are you hungry?" "No not really.. But I'm also not tired" He stood up from his crouched position next to me and went to his book shelfe... "I know your intersted in the history of this Castle and town so if we really won't go to sleep today, I figured we can just read some of the books that were written a few thousend years ago, their still in very good condition so you don't need to worry about breaking one of them unless you use a lot of strength. " He chuckeld //I wish he would laught a bit more it sounds so good and suits him more then this cold face expretion he has all the time.// I smiled "That sounds nice" He came back with a few books "Here this aren't all of them but I think for now it should be alright" I looked at the books with sparkling eyes "Which onr do you want to read first?" I Looked at the books and a red one catched my eyes, I pointed at it and he handed it to me. "You seem to like dark red pretty much" He smiled, I looked up "Yes its my favorite color" His smile grew a bit bigger "Nice choice". He picked me up and walkeed over to his Kings size bed. After he putted me down he went into the bthroom the was for the room. After he came back he had normal clothes on and set down next to me. "Are you ok with me being here or do you want me to sit on the chair?" I looked at him " Of couse its ok. Why shouldn't it be?" He shurged "Maybe you would feel uncomfofŕtable? IDK" He mde himselfe comfortable and I scutted a bit closer to him. We made ourselfes comfortable and began to read the book at some parts I asked him questions too undertsand it better and he always explaint everything for to me.
i think it was also the day we got lost trying to find our way back to the hotel lmaoo and we kept making traffic mistakes?? like we’d be following google maps and then we’d find a pedestrian crossing along the way and decide not to cross it just bc we think that there might be another crossing up ahead. there were no other crossings and we didn’t dare to jaywalk (the cars actually slow down thinking that we might wanna cross but they don’t slow down enough for us to feel safe!!) so we ended up having to walk back the entire way that we can from to use the pedestrian crossing. IN THE DARK AND IN THE RAIN. we even had to go down some creepy underpass and walk through some narrow spaces yikes i mean,, it was fun adventuring but... the safety concerns yo
.
.
.
that day was the designated gym/pool day so i woke up early to go for a swim!! gotta make full use of the hotel facilities bc our suite was ~expensive~ (like about 500SGD per night?? wew)
alfur, luwi and shoron headed for the gym while rin2 stayed in the hotel to sleep more
ok so i was advised to never go alone anywhere even within the hotel premises but hear me out!! the pool was just next to the gym and also next to the hotel buffet so there were many hotel staff around
i figured that if i were to start drowning or someone was giving me Problems i could just signal for some help
and i wasn’t completely alone... chi and cha accompanied me in their doughnut floatie~ i just left them floating around while i did some laps
got a bit concerned about their safety when i saw a crow(??) perch on a tree nearby ;; didn’t want it swooping down on a fake doughnut and flying off with chi and cha so i packed up and went back to the hotel for a quick shower
Tumblr media
afterwards i headed back down to join the others for breakfast
i found out how to use the toaster so i didn’t have to eat cold and tough bread anymore!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the egg making station has got to be the best!! you could choose the type of egg you want (scrambled, fried, omelette, etc) and the toppings and the chef will whip it up for you oqo fresh and hot
my go-to order was an omelette with mushrooms, onions, cheese, and capsicums~ rly delicious and still gooey inside
i also grabbed myself a brie every time mmm (chi and cha would share a piece of emmental cheese with a drizzle of honey)
oh oh i tried lime jam with my bread and it tasted exactly like calamansi drinks except with a jelly-like consistency O: i don’t think we have lime jam in sg but it was not bad?? quite refreshing
weather check for that day was umMMm not good as you can see
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we made it to the mo chit station before the rain started coming down and it was at that point i decided to get myself a stupid poncho
you see for the past two days i’d been using an umbrella whenever it rained and that was fine bc the rain usually occurred at night when we were otw back to the hotel anyway so getting a little wet was fine bUT this time?? it was raining before we even made it to our first destination and also said destination was a night market which might crowded and not be fully sheltered so whipping out an umbrella after short intervals of walking would be a real pain
anyway i caved to the poncho temptations and got myself one from the convenience store at the BTS station aND IT WAS SO EXPENSIVE AND POOR QUALITY i ripped a smol hole in the arm area while taking it off... reusable my ass!!
(random but i overheard this white guy tell his wife?? that even if the convenience store at the station sold $50 ponchos he’d buy them lol)
man that was the only morning i bothered to doll up a bit (luwi did my brows) and luwi even did my hair in a c-curl and the rain had to ruin it ㅠㅠ
the poncho gang:
Tumblr media
it was a bit of a walk from the station but we successfully made it to Chatuchak Weekend Market~ i was not expecting it to span such a wide area?? it kinda reminded me of bugis street
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the rain may have dampened our vibe but it sure did not ruin the shopping experience!! didn’t take more pics bc i was too busy browsing around
Tumblr media
after a while the rain subsided and we got to take off our sweaty ponchos
i read somewhere that the difference between a raincoat and a poncho is that one gets you wet from the rain and the other gets you wet from your own sweat
hmmmm true??? very profound
we didn’t manage to explore the entire Chatuchak Market (only around half of the stores?? maybe even less??) which was kind of a pity but it was already quite late and we needed to grab lunch before it became dinner
so we set off to our next location
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the thing about me not having any navigating role is that i rly have no idea where we were most of the time
we umm took the bts and came to ~this place~ (based on my googling i think it’s La Villa Phahonyothin Ari which is right next to the ari station)
Tumblr media
had our lunch at the Greyhound Cafe!! it’s a more high-end restaurant that serves both thai and western (mainly pasta) dishes
i found out that there’s a Greyhound Cafe that recently opened in sg too O: their menu is not as extensive as the one in bangkok but i guess it’s worth a try?? the prices are $$$ tho
Tumblr media
we got the baked spinach with cheese to share~ it was sooo nice and cheesy oqo
shoron said it was nicer than the one at saizeriya LMAO why set the bar so low
Tumblr media
since shoron said the pasta dishes were recommended, i ordered this
it’s a crab cannelloni stuffed with crab meat rillettes on tomato concasse sauce, topped with white sauce and parmesan (took this from their menu description lol)
i had to google what a cannelloni was and it’s apparently a type of lasagna!! great!! i can finally have some lasagna bc it’s so hard to find one that isn’t stuffed with beef or chicken
umMm chi what are you looking at so intently??
Tumblr media
the pasta was not bad but i couldn’t rly taste much crab hmmm the crab meat too smol maybe?? but i think they definitely used real crab bc i found a piece of crab claw skeleton in my pasta O:
after lunch we slowly made our way to the Ari in Town dog cafe~ it was a very scenic walk
shoron actually wanted to go to a different dog cafe (True Love husky cafe) but it closed too early and we were afraid we wouldn’t make it in time for their 4 to 5 pm play time slot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
paid the entrance fee, took off our shoes and socks and then headed into the cafe~ walking through the outdoor area with fake grass (that was wET bc of rain?? i think?? hopefully not pee) with bare feet was an... interesting experience...
anyway the cafe had normal seating aND TREETOP SEATING which i was very amused by and good thing none of us wore skirts or dresses that day so we could all climb to the second floor
the seating arrangement was nice and cosy... just seat mats and low tables (but we weren’t allowed to eat or drink in that part of the cafe so idk what the tables were meant for??)
uhh no free feet pics on my watch
Tumblr media
the view from the top heheh
Tumblr media
🥺🥺🥺
(sNIFFFFFF)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOAF
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the shibes were separated from the other doggos for some reason
Tumblr media
we were just chilling around when suddenly!!! a bear pounced onto alfur!! it was a surprise from the staff
Tumblr media
we asked the staff to help us take a group photo bc the doggos were posing but it was so chaotic bc something happened?? and all the doggos started running around
Tumblr media
the entrance ticket came with a free drink which we had to go to another part of the cafe to claim
got myself a mango and passionfruit tea which i thought would be their own creation (like tea + fruit peels or something) bUT I GOT A TWINNINGS TEA BAG
Tumblr media
stayed til the sky got dark then we figured it was about time to go grab dinner
Tumblr media Tumblr media
walked back to the station and took the BTS to the victory monument station
Tumblr media Tumblr media
decided to go to Baan Kuay Tiew Ruathong for boat noodles
i’ve never had boat noodles before bc it seemed like there’s always some kind of meat in them?? the good thing about them was the smol portion sizes bc once again my stomach was on strike and prob not ready to accept a full meal
oh and also each bowl was only a few cents?? definitely worth a try
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so i ordered the most basic thing on the menu which was the thai noodles with pork?? and i chose wide rice noodles
there were spicy variants that were explicitly labelled as such and mine was definitely not the spicy one
my tastebuds were instantly deleted with just one slurp
holy shit if that was the non-spicy variant i can’t even imagine how the spicy variant would taste?? if there was any taste apart from pain at all???? idk how the others were downing their spicy bowls
i must say,, i LOVED the texture of the wide rice noodles O: so chewyyy (pls tell me they have this in sg)
rin2 said i picked the wrong choice of noods bc thicc rice noodles tend to soak up the broth more which would amplify the spiciness ㅠㅠ but what to do,, i like dem chewy noods
anyway i braved through the burning spice and finished the one bowl i ordered ( ಥಎ ಥ)و proud of myself
Tumblr media
afterwards we headed back to the BTS station to get a Grab to take us to Jodd Fairs which was one of the most popular (if not the most popular) night markets in bangkok that boasts over 600 food stalls
omg we were trying to snap pics of our surroundings to show the driver where we were and a cop came by aND WE THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA GET FINED OR ARRESTED FOR TAKING PICS OF THE MONUMENT
but nah he just wanted to tell us that a pic of the bus stop sign would be a more helpful indication of our location than just random area photos phewww
our Grab driver screwed the turn or something so he parked his car somewhere and walked over to come get us lol ok but he was a nice guy and we made it to Jodd Fairs safely
IT WAS SO CROWDED sasuga popular night market
Tumblr media
and oh man all the food looked absolutely scrumptious
if we had gone on the very last day i might have just caved to the temptation and pigged out buuut we still had one day left and i didn’t wanna spend it being down with food poisoning ;-((
that was the intention but when shoron and rinrin bought the cheesy prawn and scallop skewers from this stall i couldn’t resist ;; the prawns were alright bUT THE SCALLOPS WERE AMAZING oqo so fat and juicy 10/10 would totally risk food poisoning for them
Tumblr media
alfur and i decided to grab a box of these thai crispy pancakes?? bc we caught the lady preparing a fresh batch
as usual i was too busy browsing around and trying to dodge the crowds of ppl that i forgot to take pics :s so i had to grab one off google images lol
but yes they are thin crispy pancake shells filled with cream and coconut shavings
they were not bad but there was this strange watery aftertaste... maybe bc of the steam condensation idk the others didn’t seem to mind it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
those are prawns you know
i don’t know how they got so big
Tumblr media
there were also stalls selling clothes and i found a sheep shirt?? should’ve gotten it as a momento of our visit to the pattaya sheep farm but i hesitated bc of the price wehh
.
.
.
cabbed back to the hotel and ordered macs for supper along with the food we got from Jodd Fairs ( @ ̄ρ ̄@ )
ended the day with a nice, relaxing bubble bath~ i was the first to use the tub and boiiii filling the tub took so much longer than i had expected
rin2 brought bath bombs for all of us and i picked the chamomile one!! but it didn’t rly smell like the tea?? maybe it was the flower scent but i’ve never smelled a chamomile flower before so idk
Tumblr media
third day down, one more day to go~
