🎀 — Prodigy
Tumblr media
You were the result of a one night stand, your mother tried to "baby-trap" Tony but of course that didn't work. Though, by law— (and since your mother was unstable) you were under the custody of your father, Tony Stark. As the years pass.. he notices a lot about you.
You were the only (known) child of Tony Stark by far. Being only 2 weeks old when the mess happened, you didn't even have a name— You were only given one once your father, Tony Stark won the case. He chose a wonderful name for you.
You couldn't be more grateful. Sure, you were unplanned and it was a little bit messy but he loves you so much. He calls you his greatest creation. You didn't disappoint too. Of course the Stark's were known as geniuses. And you weren't excluded.. in fact, you progressed so much faster than any of your predecessors that scientists wanted to study you at the age of 7 months old. Of course, as your legal guardian and awesome father, Tony immediately turned down the offer.
At age 2, you could already properly read and write. With perfect grammar, you could write long informative text— even stories.
At age 4, you already were learning the fundamentals of mathematics. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division. And since your father didn't want you to go to public or private schools (too many risks.) he hired personal tutors for you. You already were progressing faster than anyone he ever saw before, and he was so proud.
At age 5, You already could understand the simpler inventions your father made. And it was better since he would explain it step-by-step to you. And this was your favourite time of the day, not only because you get to learn but also because you get to spend time with your dad.
At age 6— your IQ was just.. off the charts. You were devouring knowledge, information like it was your favourite food! And as the caring, loving father Tony is, he happily provided you the things you need (including his love and care.).
You were the youngest of many things. You were already marked as a genius at age 2. Not only did he find out you were a genius an interesting characteristic of yours is that you NEVER, ever forget. You even remembered everything that happened when you were 2 weeks old. You remember the exact date, location and time.. it was insane.
At age 7, you were already competing with competitors 5 times your age. And surprisingly, you won every competition you were in. But of course, you're humble. (Pepper teaches you to always be humble.)
You never ceased to stop learning. It was your hobby, it was fun for you. Everything you read was always imprinted in your mind instantly.
Tony is just.. the definition of proud whenever you do something. Whether it be winning a simple chess match, quiz bee.. trivia, whatever. In fact, he has two whole rooms dedicated to you. With your certificates, trophies, medals. He's just so proud.
As he says,
“ You're my pride and joy, kid. ”
That's currently my first ever try writing in Tumblr, I don't usually write much anymore but I used to be a writer in Wattpad and AO3 😅
I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes I did, please point it out so I can fix them! Much appreciated.
Thank you so much if you reached the end, good day to you<3

This Isn't Going to Work
Angstpril 2024: Day 6 (1368 words)
“Lin, this isn’t going to work. I only have a couple of days in the city and I can’t predict when the baby will come. If you can’t take a day or two off to spend with me, I’ll just stay on the Island and not interrupt your schedule.”
“But Kya, I want to see you. It’s been months, and I miss you. We’ve been planning this raid for six months. I would risk my officers’ lives if I just took vacation time right now. Never mind what the council would say.”
“Oh, don’t bring my brother into this, Lin,” Kya groused.
Lin scoffed. “Your brother would be mad at me, but more for making you unavailable. He’s been on my back for three years to take a vacation.”
“Tenzin and I agree on something other than the fact he’s lucky Pema puts up with him.”
Lin froze.
Through a clenched jaw, she managed to respond. “No, I’m sorry, Kya. You’re right. This visit isn’t going to work out.”
click
***
Lin frowned at the timetables and weather charts spread out over Katara’s dining table. She was nearly in tears as she said, “Kya, this isn’t going to work. I have been gone for two weeks already. I’ve got to get Saikahn back to his usual duties. This election is in two months, and I have security to work out across the city.” She dropped her face in her hands. “I want to stay.”
Kya reached over and pulled one hand away and gave it a kiss.
“Lin, dear, you hate it here.”
Lin scoffed.
“I don’t hate you,” she muttered so softly Kya nearly missed it.
Kya kissed Lin’s hand again before settling her cheek into Lin’s palm.
“I don’t hate you, too.”
Their eyes met and they laughed.
Kya sighed.
“Well, if this isn’t going to work, you’d best pack. You know what Tenzin is like when he’s decided a problem is not going to fix itself. I’m sure he is going to have Korra on a meditation regime like none we’ve ever seen before.”
There was no laughter over the fate of two benders going home without their bending.
The door nearly broke from its hinges as Mako came bursting into the room. “Chief! Korra’s back! Everything is going to work out!”
***
“This isn’t going to work. We should just go home,” Lin growled, her stomach churning. Her feet were encased in soggy leather rather than her standard uniform boots. Everywhere, the riotous green growth was oppressive in its pervasiveness. They could only see so far ahead before yet another tree turned them aside from their best guess of a path.
The earth under her feet was saturated, and the water blurred her seismic sense. Kya, meanwhile, seemed almost to tiptoe through the reeds and rushes.
Lin paused a moment to admire the one spark of beauty in this spirits-forsaken swamp.
Except, of course, the spirits had not forsaken this awful place. They had both had visions the night before, and Lin was embarrassed by what Kya had heard.
“Lin, I have a good feeling. I bet Toph is just past that tree over there. Trust me.”
The cackling laugh seemed to come from everywhere but above them.
“Trust? Kya, you should know better than that. Lin won’t trust her own two feet.”
The tiny, wizened form of Lin’s mother emerged from behind the very tree Kya had indicated.
“Hey, Chief.”
Lin shook her head and sighed. “Hey, Chief.”
A few minutes’ worth of backtracking brought them to Toph’s small abode. She negligently raised two stools for sitting, then returned to her own reclining seat.
Kya’s stomach gurgled, so she started opening their pack. “Toph, we brought some food with us. We thought you might like something other than wet mushrooms. We just need a little larger fire to cook everything.”
“That isn’t going to work. The swamp and I have an arrangement, and that fire doesn’t get any bigger. It’s either good enough, or it’s not.”
***
Kya was perplexed by the instructions in the note in her hand. Lin told her to arrive at a very specific hour at the delivery entrance to the Republic City History Museum, and to wait for her.
After a short wait, she began to regret dismissing the cab, because she didn’t see anywhere to sit and wait for her wife. The shadows were shifting, and Kya had other things she wanted to do other than watch the birds flit about the alleyway.
Just as she was about to give up and leave, a police van pulled up and parked next to the dock. Lin exited the passenger side, bent over to speak to the driver, then walked to the cargo doors at the back. Her hand was hidden by the open doors, until she backed up and a large crate floated out and settled on the ground behind the vehicle. Kya presumed there was something metal inside that she was bending.
Lin closed the doors to the van and tapped the back twice. The officer put the sato into gear and drove away.
Lin bent the crate up onto the dock, then walked over to where Kya was waiting with an arched eyebrow and crossed arms.
“You were very specific, Lin. Why have I been waiting here so long?”
Lin had the decency to look slightly abashed. “The people we are here to meet got caught in traffic and couldn’t let us in on time. I’m sorry.”
With a wave, Kya dismissed the concerns, and leaned over to give Lin a kiss.
Kya was fascinated to get to see the back offices and storage areas of the museum. Even as the child of dignitaries, she had never gotten to see the parts of the museum where all the work was done. It seemed to be a busy place, even on a day when they were closed to the public.
She waited in the chair she was led to while Lin managed the crate under the direction of one of the curators. She rummaged through her bag for a book until she remembered having finished her last one from her last trip to the library. A glance around the room found very little to distract her, so she settled on the floor to meditate.
“Kya, dear. We’re ready.”
Kya was prepared with her side-eye for Lin, who somehow did not seem surprised. Or put off in the slightest.
She was almost smug.
Kya frowned, but got up from the floor to follow Lin.
They emerged from the employee areas into the main visitor gallery. Hand in hand, they walked through an open doorway with the phrase “The Story of Our City” marked out in a cheerful red overhead.
It had been years since the last time Kya had brought the niblings, so she could see a few places where things had been updated and rearranged. Lin took a turn Kya didn’t recognize, only to be confronted with a larger-than-life statue of Toph. Which thankfully was not the size of the statue at headquarters.
Lin guided her through a small hall dedicated to the police force from its establishment under the original council through the rise of the triads, the terror of Yakone, the two chiefs after Toph, to Lin’s own promotion to the top job. There was a memorial wall for those killed in the line of duty, whether in what Lin called the ‘quiet years’ or specific historic moments like the Equalist Uprising.
“Kya, darling. Close your eyes, please.”
Kya looked at Lin first, but slowly and deliberately closed her eyes, and wrapped her arm around Lin’s elbow. It was only about another twenty steps before Lin asked her to stop and turn around. She heard a click that sounded like a storage case closing.
“Open your eyes.”
Behind a glass case, a dressmaker’s form supported one of Lin’s uniforms. The plaque overhead read, “Chief Lin Beifong served Republic City for forty years before retiring in the twenty-fourth year of the Korra Era.”
Kya blinked. “Retired?” She looked at Lin in confusion.
“Retired." Lin pointed at the uniform. "This isn’t going to work.”
She smiled at Kya.
“Ever again.”

Love Him Madly
Matías Recalt x Gender Neutral reader
Summary: You're a musician, and you write a song about your boyfriend, Matías Recalt.
(It's originally written by The Doors, but I changed the gender and it's set in modern times).
I wrote 3 fics todayy, I'm so proud of myself qq
--
3:00 AM
12 hours you have spent locked in your room. The only times you went out were to get food and use the bathroom. Crumbled paper filled with scribbled lyrics that didn't even make sense was scattered across your room as well as your own vinyls. You were busy writing down songs for your sixth album. It was called L.A. Woman. You were in desperate need of a shower along with a good night's sleep. You haven't slept all day and night. But you couldn't rest now, you had work to do. You promised the band you would be finished by the next day. Well, today, actually, it's early in the morning, and you have to be at the studio by 6:00 AM to present what you have written so far to the band. It had to be good and something that would catch their eye. Something that would hit the charts.
Your back was hunched due to looking down at the empty paper, and your hand began to cramp from holding that damn pencil all day and night. There was nothing good to write about. You have given your all in the last few albums. Your droopy eyes were going to give up any moment now. You looked through all your books and pictures for inspiration, from greek poetry to your graduation photos. All physical media was on the floor now except for your box dedicated to the love of your life, Matías Recalt.
Matías had been your boyfriend for 5 years now. You both met through friends, and the rest is history. You hadn't seen him in a while because just like you, he was busy with his celebrity status. He was an actor and spent the last few months filming for his newest movie, Society of the Snow, so you couldn't see him until he was done filming. You sighed as you opened the box, which revealed pictures of him as a baby to a teenager and finally an adult. There were also pictures of him and you. Your favorite photo included him asleep in a garden during one of your picnic dates. You placed little flowers you had picked in the garden on his hair while he slept peacefully and took the picture. He looked so beautiful. The real sleeping beauty.
4:00 AM
An hour had passed. You had spent one hour reliving the past with your boyfriend. It was worth it, though. You really needed something to cheer you up. So, you happily picked up that pencil again and began to write in the blank paper.
Don't ya love him madly?
Don't ya need him badly?
Don't ya love his ways?
Tell me what you say
The first few lyrics you had written in hours that you actually liked. You really loved him madly. Anyone would, too. You would do anything for that man. But you wanted to be his lover, not his devoted slave so you erased a lyric of wanting to do anything for him. Now, you were left with only 4 lines so far. Thoughts of Matías danced in your mind. His lovely smile, voice, and personality. You really needed him badly now. His touch and his words. You needed to hear him say, "I love you," again. You needed to hug him and feel his warmth. You thought about the both of you sleeping together, him being the little spoon and you being the big spoon. Your arms around his waist and your legs tangled with his. The scent of his shampoo still lingering in his hair, which filled your nostrils. It was one of your favorite scents, along with his natural aroma. The only place you needed to be in right now was in his arms. So, you grabbed a nearby blanket and rolled it. You hugged it tightly with your eyes closed, imagining that you were hugging him.
You loved his ways. The way he walked. The way he dressed. His way of living and just his lifestyle in general. Weirdly enough, you even fell in love with the way he slept. So peaceful and calm, with no worries in the world and you at his side. He was a kind and healthy soul, and you aspired to be like him. You wanted him to teach you his ways. He could tell you anything, and you'd be interested in whatever. He can make anything interesting. You also never got bored of looking at him. You could stare at him forever. If you had the talent, you would build a sculpture of him and show it off to everyone that this gorgeous man is yours only.
Let me tell you what, this man is an angel sent by God himself. You were alone before you met him, and he saved your life on multiple occasions. When you met him for the first time, it was like a fairytale.
Now, tell me,
Don't ya love him madly?
Wanna be his mommy? (Or daddy or other)
Don't ya love his face?
God bless the parents that raised him, you thought.
Again, you loved him madly. Your love for him was so strong that you would've been locked up in the old days for being so crazy in love. "They'd have to lock us both up, not just you." Matías would always say. You giggled. You remembered the first time Matías said I love you. It was in a note he had sent you along with a silver, diamond, heart-shaped ring. You gasped when you opened the box.
Dear Y/N,
Hi, I hope you love your gift. I had it made specifically for you, with your initials engraved on top of the heart. It's special. I remember the first time we've met, how pretty you looked when I talked to you for the first time. So cute, I'll never forget that face. I'll come back to you as soon as I'm done filming. I promise. I know you or me haven't said I love you yet, but I'll be the first, I love you. I hope that didn't make you mad or anything. I really love you so much. I mean it.
Love, Matías Recalt
You couldn't wait to see the look on Matías' face when you tell him for the first time, I love you. How his eyes would widened and he would blush. How he would be shocked that someone else actually loves him. Not for his looks or his money, just for him as a person. You loved his face. His pale skin, pink lips, and dark eyes. His face had "flaws" like acne, but you loved his acne. It made look more cuter, and you always told him not to be insecure about it. His dark eyes were small. You loved how his eyes shrunk whenever he laughed or smiled. Your heart would melt.
Don't ya love him as he's walkin' out the door?
Like he did one thousand times before
Don't ya love his ways?
Tell me what you say?
Don't ya love him as he's walkin' out the door?
Since Matías is a famous actor, he is always on the move and busy. You both go months without seeing each other physically. He has walked out the door one thousand times before. You loved the way he walked out. A specific time where he walked out was when he had a ton of luggage, sunglasses on, a white blouse that was unbuttoned with his chest revealed, and tight black jeans. The weather was blazing that day. You could see droplets of sweat on his neck and chest. His hair was starting to go frizzy from the humdity. He looked down at his watch to see the time. His side profile was like a work of art. Unfortunately, you couldn't admire him for much longer and he had to leave. Matías gave you a kiss on the lips, and he walked out the door for the one thousandth time.
All your love
All your love
All your love
All your love
All your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream
Seven horses seem to be on the mark
Yeah, don't you love him?
Don't you love him as he's walkin' out the door?
When you and Matías were separated, all your love was gone. So was his. You couldn't visit each other for even a short time due to your and his busy schedule. The both of you were lonely. There was nothing you could do. While it was your passion to become a musician, you sometimes felt like quitting just to be by Matías' side. He also thought the same. Life meant nothing without Matías.
All your love
All your love
All your love
Yeah, all your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream
Seven horses seem to be on the mark
Well, don't ya love him madly?
Don't ya love him madly?
Don't ya love him madly?
You wrote the same lyrics again because it was your favorite part of the song. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. You yawned and went up to show who it was. Probably one of your band mates. Your hand grasped the doorknob and twisted it. When the door sprung open, there was Matías. With his hands on his hips and a smile on his face.
You really loved him madly.

What the Ouran Members Would Bring to the Gift Exchange:
Heads up, this is aggressively long at 1k words, but it was a blast and a half to write, so enjoy!
Honey - He’s been forever banned from bringing sweets because he either a) eats them all on the way home from the store, b) eats them at home in the middle of the night, c) eats them all on the way to the party, or d) guilt trips whoever gets his gift into giving him the tasty snack. Thus, Honey is NOT allowed to bring anything edible -  Honey brings the largest, fluffiest, and pinkest stuffed animal bunny that money could possibly buy.
Mori - Baby chickens - this guy loves his animals, and assumes that naturally everyone else also loves animals, right? He hadn’t been watching his roosters and chickens as closely as he thought he’d had, and baby chickens hatched! So, he brought the joy of life to the gift exchange. This year it was held at the twins’ place, and Kyoya made the mental note to put in NO LIVE ANIMALS ALLOWED AS GIFTS OR IN MY HOUSE in the invitation note when it was his turn to host the next year.
Kaoru -  A collection of his favorite books, teas, and candies. He was hesitant at first because some of the books meant a lot to him, and he was sensitive about being teased about the things that truly meant something to him. He still went with this gift though because it would be fun to enjoy now that it was cold outside, and they all couldn’t go out as much as they wanted.
Hikaru - A giant chest full of magic and prank toys. Some are quite expensive and others are cheap, commoner ones that he’d been researching for a few weeks. It’s an odd gift for the exchange, but they are all odd members, and Hikaru actually put a surprising amount of thought into the gift.
Haruhi - A bento box. Haruhi was desperate for ideas on what to give the richest people she knew, the ones who had just about anything they could possibly desire. As the day for their first gift exchange drew nearer, and was thinking of ways to get out of the event, she overheard the twins discussing how much they wanted to try her cooking again. Whether a planned overhearance or not, Haruhi thought that a bento box would be a great idea. When thinking it over, the only one who wouldn’t like the box would be Kyoya, and even though her luck in regards to the club was 50/50 for good or bad, she liked the 5 out of 6 chances that someone would be thrilled. She searched everywhere for a cute present shaped box, all green with a red bow. She carefully cooked the rice, rolled the omlet, and put the food together nicely. Haruhi also made some cookies and placed them in a pretty bag to go with the bento. It was a lovely gift, and, as expected, the most fought after gift at the exchange.
Kyoya - A crisp new dollar bill. There is a graph of How Recently have the Club Members Annoyed Me to How Much the New Bill Will Be constantly tallied up in his head. He even, out of boredom, created an app for that sole purpose of being able to show the chart to Tamaki when Tamaki accused Kyoya of going cheap on them all. The 25 recent calls in the span of an hour the week previously about a play by play of making snowman and then Oudette eating the carrot did not help in Tamaki’s favor. Kyoya also gets away with just giving money because, well, he’s Kyoya, and because he does actually go to the bank (or at least, sends someone), and he can make the argument that it’s essentially the same as going to the store. Really, Kyoya should have been a lawyer, everyone that has any other complaints about the money, eventually gives up.
Tamaki - A portrait of the entire Host Club smiling and frolicking while playing Kick the Can, painted by himself. He said he’d taken classes for months in order to perfectly capture the liveliness and love between all of the members.
Bonus: Who ended up with what?
Honey: Hikaru’s chest of pranks. He can’t wait to find more ways to torment his brother.
Mori: Haruhi’s bento box - He drew the last number, and used his Ultimate Steal to steal the bento even after it had been locked in by being stolen too many times. He ate a cookie at the exchange ever so smuggly, gave his compliments to Haruhi, and then finished the rest the next day while studying. It was by far the best food he’d eaten all week.
Kaoru: Kyoya’s money. He was thinking of buying a new game with it. He’d seen one in the store, and it would be more enjoyable to play knowing Kyoya had bought it. But then Haruhi messaged in the group chat after the party to let everyone know she’d made it home safely (so they wouldn’t follow her home to make sure of it themselves, most likely), warned them all to be careful in the snow, and wished them once again happy holidays. Kaoru decided at that moment that he really didn’t need more money. He broke the bill down into smaller bills and placed them in Haruhi’s bag when she wasn’t looking throughout the next two months for her to find later. That was like a gift in itself to him when she grinned at having found an extra bit of money she hadn’t realized was there before.
Hikaru: Kaoru’s books, teas, and candies. Kaoru was puzzled because Hikaru could just borrow his, but Hikaru shrugged and took his gift quietly. He’d been feeling a little distant from Kaoru lately, and reading what he enjoyed might help Hikaru find that connection he was craving.
Haruhi: Honey’s bunny. She’s actually quite excited for it, and uses it as a resting cushion when she watches TV and studies. More often than not though, she falls asleep and has the sweetest, softest dreams shrouded in pink.
Kyoya: Tamaki’s portrait. He didn’t particularly want it, he claimed, but he knew it would go for enough money on their auction page to support club activities for nearly a month. The portrait is now hanging in a corner of his room.
Tamaki: Mori’s baby chickens. Tamaki is not known for his ability to think things through, restrain himself, or full picture thinking. He adopted the baby chickens and promptly made them his entire family’s problem.

I have a very serious question, and need some help getting connected to people with relevant experience.
How do you connect to and motivate a deaf and blind infant?
We have done everything we can think of when working with this one infant at my day care for the past 6+ months.
And the growth she’s shown so far - her personality, her fierce independence, her exuberance and love of cuddles and jumping - shows we are connecting, and making gains with her.
She’s such a character, despite everything medically she’s gone through (details below cut) it’s so easy to treat her like a regular, stubborn child.
We talk with her the way we do any of the other babies, cuddle, make sure she can reach toys to chew, do our best to move her to something new when she gets fussy - generally the jumper, her favorite.
But she’s finally getting to the point where she can work on moving, and we’re struggling with reinforcing things.
She was making progress with scooting before the most recent medical crisis, but now she just seems content to focus on her fine motor (being able to hold stuff) and rolling.
She’s in physical et al. therapy, of course, but us day care teachers are getting a tiny bit frustrated with their “results” focus - when we know how much she can do when she’s not frustrated with being forced.
Full toddler stubbornness in that little body, let me tell you!
Can we grape vine this enough to connect me with disability specialists or people with real life experience with comorbid deaf blindness in infants???
I’m going to be obfuscating a lot of personal details whenever possible, because of reapect/confidentiality/etc. Because unfortunately there are some unique medical issues I want to share for context.
We’ll proceed with calling this girl Margret, and say that she’s about seven or eight months developmentally at this point (attempting to compensate for developmental stunting due to various medical crisis events).
Margret was born three months premature, with pretty much most of the associated heath concerns from that. She also, unfortunately, suffered seizures and Hypsarrhythmia (disorganized brain waves), which are associated with the two “medical crisis events” I reference.
Fortunately, she seems past the second crisis event, and is showing her personality, independence, and interests again.
Right now, the therapy specialists are focused on getting our girl on sitting and eating solid foods.
And having worked with babies for three years, I wanna smack ‘em!!! 🥴
My big thing with babies is “are they working on something?” Part of it might be my own neurodivergence, but as long as they are working at something within their developmental range, I’m happy.
Pre-Toddler “capable of learning not to do bad things,” of course (and of course I don’t let the babies get away with “bad stuff,” but I’m at the preteaching stage to make things easier for the toddler teacher later).
I’ve only had two babies freak me out for not doing something, and it’s poor Margret during her two medical crisis events and another child I, unfortunately, never got to see the resolution for.
Other older teachers keep pushing six/seven month olds to focus on unsupported sitting.
And you know what? One family had two perfect examples: the elder son wouldn’t sit because that meant staying still, and the other was so chill they just liked laying down. Both grew up to be insane movers and developmentally on track with everything else.
If a baby doing something other than what the sanitized charts say is expected? Most of the time they’re either the former - want to move - or the latter - satisfied with amusing themselves playing with their feet.
Both are building skills, and developmentally appropriate at that stage.
Generally, when I want to engage a child in sitting, I use our hanging toy gyms in front of them. The toys are up, encouraging keeping the body up, and there’s something of interest.
I don’t know how to motivate Margret with something similar, though. She only seems to know if there’s a toy when she’s able to feel it, and obviously laying down or sitting in a high chair/baby table is best for being able to keep track of a toy by touch.
As for eating… You’ll read below Margret has literal trauma about food, being force feed for health reasons, etc. I’d like her to eat, but it’s only a priority for making this easier for the adults. We have supplemented fluid we can use, I’d rather let her work on gross motor skills and being happy instead of “learning to eat [like a normal child].”
😠
This is where I’m really asking for help: We can connect with Margret though touch and her preferred toys. I used to tap her pacifier on her cheek, try to reassure her it wasn’t the (wet) bottle and I was done trying to get her to drink.
Putting her pacifier or other toy in her hand is now the best option, she recognizes it faster!
She’s also very vocal! It’s hard sometimes to determine right away if she’s happy or sad, but she quickly makes it clear.
My favorite recently is that she will scream when she drops her “honey dipper” “spoon” we’ve been using at meal times for baby oatmeal. She’s not too fond of the food part, but she loves chewing on it! Great for teething!! She’ll throw her biggest fits when she drops it, then giggles when we get it back in her hand.
She’s learned “screams = help!” and I am beyond thrilled she’s made that connection!!!!!
I don’t know how much of her other vocalizations are similar attempts to communicate, or self soothing.
Anyone with experienced opinions, I’d love to hear them!!
I’ll try summarizing the medical background, if the details help…
Margret started at our center about six months chronologically, three months developmentally. She had some delays there, but our primary concern was eating.
Poor girl, feeding has been a struggle except for one miracle period. Lots of regurgitation, which makes her resent bottle time generally, and the more upset she is the more likely she’s to gag.
She was even losing weight for a while, so as much as I didn’t want to traumatize her I did my best to balance times feedings with listening to her feedback.
But for a bit, I didn’t overall worry. The more she fought the bottle, the more I was sure there was a person inside, and at first we got to know Margret as she started building skills.
Number one: She loved to stand. Easiest way to make her happy was to get her on her feet. She built muscle fast for all her weight issues, you could hold her by her hips and she’d be able to keep herself upright at a level you usually don’t see at her developmental stage.
Once she was big enough for the jumper, she found heaven. She will let us know if she’s done, but usually she wants to be in there until she rocks herself to sleep.
Like most babies even up to her current development level of 7-8, so I was thrilled there!
Then she plateaued, and I got worried. We noticed she almost never responded to auditory stimulation, and never focused on anything - her eyes always wandered.
For a while, I wondered if she was severely near or far sighted, which is why she never seemed to focus on anything.
Then two bad wammies.
First: Tests suggested her eyes and ears function well. Any issues with vision or hearing is in information conveying or processing.
Second: After regular EEG scans without concern, Margret began showing seizure activity and Hypsarrhythmia.
Potentially responsible for the first via brain damage, we obviously can only hypothesize.
That’s the first medical crisis in my personal experience with her.
We got her on meds, and - Margret was back! As stubborn and as curious and as energetic as ever.
She was even trying to scoot. One day, she shocked me by basically trying to pull herself into the wall mirror we have for the babies! 😊
They got her on some anti-regurgitation medication, too, and bottle times became a joy for all of us!
And then…
I don’t have the details. All I feel comfortable with saying is there were bad decisions being made about the seizure medication…
They down-titrated all of Maegret’s medications.
This period is the second crisis event, and we’ve been fighting to get back since.
She lost weight. She’s been regurgitating all her bottles again - we’ve had it as bad as 7 regurgitations while at the center, and we have to keep trying again in half an hour in a vain attempt to get calories into her.
She’s gotten back into her old personality, though, and her fine motor skills seem to be increasing! She searches for toys on the jumper, instead of needing them handed to her, and will pick up stuff on the ground if she rolls enough to feel it.
But she has no interest in scooting anymore, and when she tries to walk when held her legs are very very unstable. Her feet roll, she doesn’t know where to put her legs…
She can stand flat footed in the jumper, but I don’t think she’s fully put together how, it’s just chance.
I want her to keep making gains and showing off her skills. I want her able to move, and get even more independence.
And the older kids in the baby room are great with her, we have a 90% great group! (one stinker, but he’s a stinker to everyone, and typically prefers the active babies to rough house… lol)
I’m running out of stuff I feel safe to share/need to vent.
I just… got really frustrated with the therapy people today.
I know they want the best for Margret. But she was tired today, she did not want to sit, and it infuriates me we can’t show off the stuff she’s actually working on because they’re fixated on two narrow things.
😓

I’m not from the us but what’s with the baby formula? No one in my country uses that we just breast feed. And if there is a shortage of the powder then why aren’t people you know breast feeding which is the normal way to feed a baby?
Not trying to be rude lol
So, earlier this year we (as a country) basically ran out of baby formula because 1 of the major manufacturers (it's VERY highly and carefully regulated - as all baby food is - so there are only a couple of manufacturers) had to issue a recall and close down 1 of their plants due to contamination or something. So the shelves were basically COMPLETELY EMPTY.
As you can see from the below chart (source), in the US, most babies are breastfed at SOME point, but not for the recommended duration of time. Only 45% of babies are exclusively breastfed for 3 months, and that number drops dramatically to 24.9% for 6 months - so 75% of babies are receiving formula at some point in their life.
This is most likely attributed to the fact that in the US, some employers (those who have a certain # of employees, etc) are only required to provide full-time employees with UNPAID maternity leave for 12 weeks. Some employers do offer paid maternity leave, but even those that do only provide it for a few weeks (some really amazing companies do provide it for longer, but most women do not receive paid maternity leave at all. My sister works for A HOSPITAL SYSTEM and she will only receive 6 weeks of PAID maternity leave and then 6 weeks of unpaid leave. A FREAKING HOSPITAL!) And since most women can't afford to be unpaid that long (or for any period of time at all), they have to go back to work and put their child in daycare or with a nanny or with a family member.
Often times in order to take any paid maternity leave at all, women have to use their vacation time and sick time which amounts to maybe - MAYBE - 3 weeks?
Tumblr media
And then, of course, there's the fact that some women - such as myself - don't have a strong enough supply to be able to sustain a baby. (I will admit - I was never really in love with the idea of breastfeeding, I tried to pump for my kids but didn't have much of a supply and was only able to get maybe 4-8oz per day. Newborn babies eat like, 2oz every 2-3 hours round the clock - so this was woefully insufficient. And for my youngest, he was an IUGR preemie so he had to be on specialized formula anyway (even though I did still try to pump a bit for him).) ALSO - in the 1950s and 60s, with the growth of the suburbs, middle class, and women working outside the home, baby formula became a thing and it was deemed the more hygienic, proper way to feed a baby. Doctors would even say it was better because you knew exactly how much food the baby was getting, it was coming out of sterilized bottles, so there was no risk of germs from the mother, etc. So most people my age (35) and my parents' age were formula-fed and breastfeeding was seen as a "hippy" or crunchy thing.
Now we all know about the health benefits of breastfeeding v. formula feeding so it's gaining popularity again, but for literally 2 generations breastfeeding was considered the less desirable option (and I also think was a bit stigmatized because only women who "couldnt afford" formula were breastfeeding so it was seen as a "poor" option).
ALSO I would like to say that in the US they are pushing breastfeeding so much that it actually has done harm to some women and babies. Mothers are so ashamed if they have to formula feed (due to low supply, etc) that they DONT. They keep trying and trying to breastfeed and their babies end up getting sick because they're not getting enough nutrition. Some babies have even DIED because of it.
So let's be very clear - (and this is not directed at you Anon, but to anyone who comes for me on this post b/c it can be a heated topic) - FED IS BEST. Getting your baby the proper nutrition they need, any way that you can, is the MOST important thing. And you DO NOT NEED TO JUSTIFY why you've chosen 1 way over another. Ever. Period.

Transiting Ceres enters Virgo, pre-retrograde zone
Thursday, September 29 - Monday, November 28, 2022
Caveat, as always, first: unless Ceres is a player in your chart (closely aspecting the Sun, Moon, and/or an angle), this won’t have much of a personal impact on you.
Pre-retrograde zone, emphasis on the pre- part. We have a couple months’ worth of smooth-ish sailing. That’s plenty of time for you Southern Hemisphere green thumbs to get started on your gardens.
Ceres has a strong affinity with Virgo, so she’s very happy and very powerful here. Looking at four of her main areas:
Procreative sexuality, parenting, children, family - we’re making sure everything is as healthy as possible, and functioning the way it ought. Training for new parents is important. There is less sentimentality, and more realism, when we think about these topics.
Child care, nurturing professions - an admirable part of the US’ COVID-19 response, was the universal free breakfasts and lunches provided by many schools to their students. My own district went above and beyond in providing food packages for qualifying families, during summer vacation. This proved that it can be done; the US just chooses not to. Grrr. Anyway, we’ll see some attention paid to teachers and caregivers getting proper training and certification.
Agriculture, growing cycles, food - about 50+ years ago I saw in a magazine a representation of Virgo as a woman sitting on a bale of hay, dandling a baby, with the usual agricultural crops around her. To me it’s like Virgo is the sign of proven fertility. You green thumb types know what works, and what doesn’t.
Concern for animals - especially domesticated ones, like we’d find on a farm. We want them to be healthy and well cared for; we aren’t particularly sentimental about them (again!), as it’s more of a practical concern.
What we really need to do (especially if Ceres is a “player”) is to create as sensible a background for the upcoming retrograde, as we can manage. As we look at Ceres’ areas and how they work for/through us, we need to think in terms of efficiency and sustainability. Eleventh House means you need to make sone realistic goals. Third house, start to think in terms of your neighborhood being your community.
One potential trouble spot arrives in November, around the 24th and maybe a week before and after. Ceres will be opposed to Neptune Rx/Pisces, and both of them will be square to Mars Rx/Gemini. This is a new situation - although we may have had hints about it around June 6, if you can remember back that long. We won’t be seeing things clearly, and we’ll be very mistrustful of ourselves and others. We may over-react to whatever problems arise. Slow down and take a deep breath!

The Breast Milk Market is Disgusting
When I became pregnant, I had every intention to be able to feed my baby breast milk. I did all the research, followed everyone's advice, and prepared for birth. When I had my son, for the whole first month I spent hours and hours trying to make it work, but my milk never came in and I was devastated.
Still wanting my child to have breastmilk, I turned to a friend who was over producing and was able to feed him on her donor milk for three months. Then out of nowhere, she started to dry up, and I had to look for donor milk elsewhere.
As a side note, some blood banks are now taking breast milk donations as well so if you are in desperate need and your baby is an NICU baby and very newborn, you should be able to get your milk from a donor bank. Where my baby was healthier, we would have been charged over $5 an oz and that just wasn't sustainable.
Anyway, at first I was able to find a few donors that provided us with a half month or so of milk - but to do this, I had to post in groups, turn alert on, and basically be on FB consistently to catch milk - otherwise I would be snatched up within a small window of time. The same people would claim the milk over and over again to where others in the groups barely got a chance to respond. This was so stressful and for most of these, I had to drive over an hour to pick up the milk.
Then I moved states away and began heavily researching where I could find more donor milk, and I was shocked at everything I found. In short, on Craigslist women are selling gallons of breast milk to body builders marketed as "growth milk" for hundreds of dollars. Women are making jewelry or soap out of their breast milk and selling it for over fifty dollars. I even found on two occasions women selling their milk as a sexual fetish. The frustration I felt could not be named. Here I was, a struggling mother working a full time job and trying to find food for my child, while other women had more than enough to share and were selling it to the highest bidder.
Let me first say, I understand what it takes to make breast milk so I know the effort that goes into pumping and everything so yes, I'm not mad that money is being charged for the milk. I am mad because I am in groups specific for donor milk and every day, the stipulations to get the milk I need for my child are getting higher and higher to where I still haven't been able to get him milk since we moved.
One person posted on FB marketplace said they had 2000 oz of milk in their freezer and to message for pricing. The posting had been up for over a month so I reached out and asked for what I needed only. I was sent a pricing chart and told the milk was "organic" so the price per oz would be $10. For my monthly need, that would have been $5,000 -which is absolutely absurd.
Another person posted that they needed to clean out their freezer and had 700 oz. Again the post had no traction for over a month and no price was listed. I reached out and asked if they were willing to donate any. I was met with absolute rudeness and basically told "I don't want to go back to work so I'm using my milk to make money and if you don't have money, go on then." That person was selling theirs for $20 per 6 oz bag.
I've had people that don't want to drive, people that have all these crazy rules about meeting up, and it has literally become so hard to find the milk to begin with that is willingly being donated that I am feeling like giving up. My son is awful on formula and it makes him sick regardless of how we do it - but the options we have are limited. I came into the community of mothers here with hope everyone would be kind and sharing and yet, all I've found is just another way people have found to divide. I never would have thought finding milk was going to be an issue, but now I know.

How to feed solids to a 6 Months Baby?
Feeding babiescan be a daunting task for mothers. Here are some tips to make your mealtime happy and stress-free.
Always start slowly, with just one or two spoons and proceed to give more if the baby likes the taste of the new food.
Introduce only one new food at a time and wait for the baby to respond to it, before starting another new food.
Follow the 3-day wait rule and note down all the new dishes that the baby takes for troubleshooting when there is an allergic reaction.
Do not give lumps in food or finger foods for babies as small as six months, as it sometimes causes gagging and even choking.
Dedicate a calm and quiet place for feeding every single day to establish a feeding routine.
Avoid distraction feeding.
Prepare and store the baby food in sterilized steel or glass bowls instead of plastic containers.
Give only homemade food for 6 months baby as their digestive system is still immature.
What’s more?
The ByGrandmaBaby Food Chartcan be conveniently downloaded and viewed on a smartphone or mobile device.
The first time you introduce solids, you need to ensure the baby is physically developed to sit upright on a high-seat unassisted and is able to move food to the back of the mouth using up and down jaw movements. As the food is generally in pureed/ porridge form, it is expected to slide safely down the throat. A common method of feeding is using a baby spoon, which is available in different sizes.
WithByGrandma Baby Food Chart, keeping track of your baby’s diet is so easy now!
Make the right choice. The smart choice. Happy feeding!
