My search-fu is limited right now, anyone happen to have a link to a particular Hellsite Hall of Fame post that involves the Once-ler and….. Crimes against humanity based upon note count??
I went with the bed, being able to use my weighted blanket in the summer is worth needing to lug in bottles of Diet Dr Pepper into my apartment on a regular basis.
no multi option, agonize and choose, no results option, pick one to find out or scroll onward
I know they’re busy, but I’m starting to think modern NASA is the only people we should be trusting to build new machinery.
They’re developing an impressive track record of impossible moves.
Holy shit, they got Voyager 1 working again!
15 billion miles away and NASA was able to tweak code packages on one of the onboard computers and it worked and Voyager 1 is sending signals back to earth for the first time since November.
by talos this can’t be happening is a mandela effect because the actual phrase is by the gods this can’t be happening and i’ve never heard anyone say the former in game
I’d like there to be more traditional CYOA stuff in each job, final unlocks if you complete each set of internal branches, but that’s definitely a version 3 plan. 😜
So, I was watching Super Eyepatch Wolf’s vid on Fake Video Games and it accidentally triggered a desire to world build for a very loose concept in mt head.
Which is “Fantasy NCP jobs Choose Your Own Adventure Increment game.”
Because the fact there are apparently no CYOA increment games in existence damages my soul.
On the other hand, “Fantasy NPC jobs” is the extent of the world building thus far.
Anyone actually interested in poking me to mock up some macro-level paths?
CYOA and incremental games are differently paced??
lol I guess so, for traditionally paced incremental games….
As played by…. less obsessive people…..
(Note: The initial idea for this game came before I played Progress Knight, although that turns out to be the closest to what I was already envisioning.)
The idea would be that you start off with one “job” to start out with (say fishing).
Your first run, you have a fairly standard incremental experience with very few branching options: buy boat, get enough money to buy new fishing rods and better bait, start opening up the first few entries in the fish log.
No actual fishing mechanics, each “tick” (say 10 seconds) is the end of the day with x rewards, which you can sell or save (no point in saving in the first run) and buy your upgrades.
After a set amount of time you’re too old and “reincarnate,” which insert-mumbo-jumbo is you starting that life over.
With stat points you can put into Intelligence, Magic, etc.
This meta-progression is what unlocks the CYOA aspect of the game.
The first major branch is unlocked by having a sufficient sum of stats, so the player can muck around with the meta-progression without awkwardly needing to grind.
A previously grayed out option the first two runs is suddenly useable - selling directly to a local cook.
Completing their quests unlocks more stat points on reset, and paying attention to their dialogue hints at where to spend those points to most quickly open up the next branch.
Get the right stats high enough, and instead of starting a run as a fisherman, you can go work at the local tavern.
Here the player starts getting hints at how to spend stat points to open up other options.
Get your endurance and strength higher, and you can be a blacksmith.
Mastering jobs unlocks special meta-progressions that unlock next-tier jobs: sword knowledge starts you towards adventuring gigs, finally unlocking magical abilities……
Eventually, as the game is developed, old-school Harvest Moon romance options can be added in - which, since you’re constantly reincarnating, the player can explore freely.
Have enough money and knowledge of jobs, and you can start hiring NPCs to work your old jobs so you can have easy access to those drops for specific runs.
After a certain point you unlock a meta-progression perk that greatly increases your starting money, so you can hire those guys early.
Get your magic high enough, and you can start soul-repeating the NPCs, and then you can start micromanaging their stats………..
Anyway………..
There’s a reason the Fake Video Game vid got me thinking about this idea again.
And I swear, if you’ve played Realm Grinder and the incremental game Grimoire, the structure really should be possible……
