Y’all I just found out about the 1904 Olympics marathon and I am losing my mind over how batshit insane it was. Buckle up y’all because this is one hell of a story
For some historical context, the 1904 Olympics were held in St. Louis and it was the first Olympics hosted in the U.S. It was paired up with the 1904 World’s Fair, so there was a hell of a lot going on in the city at the time
First, let’s meet some of our contestants:
American Thomas Hicks and four other Americans were all experienced marathoners
American Fred Lorz, who was able to compete after placing in a “special five mile race” sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Association. He did all his training at night
Ten Greeks who had never run a marathon before
Two South African men from the Tsuana tribe who were in St. Louis as part of the World’s Fair. They were apparently the first black Africans to compete in the Olympics, which is super cool. Less cool was the fact that they weren’t wearing any shoes
Cuban Félix Carbajal, a 5ft (1.5m) tall man who had fundraised his journey to the Olympics. This man got to New Orleans, lost all his money on a dice game, then had to walk and hitchhike his way to St. Louis. Mind you, that is almost 700 miles. He shows up to the race, having not eaten in 40 hours, dressed like THIS:
Tumblr media
This man gets another bullet point because apparently his trousers were all the way down to his boots when he got there. Another Olympian took pity on him and cut them with scissors
Now for the race itself. It is in the 90s (32 degrees Celsius) and humid. For some god awful reason, they decided to start the race at 3pm, so it’s the hottest part of the day. The course is only 24.85 miles (40km) long instead of a standard 26.2, but that doesn’t mean this was an easier race. On the fucking contrary, it was hellish. I’ll let the Smithsonian article about this explain it because they do it much better than I ever could:
Tumblr media
Now, I’ve never ran a marathon before, but I looked it up and the current recommendation is that water stations are placed every two miles.
The race is a go and things are off to a nasty start. American William Garcia almost becomes the first fatality of an Olympic event because he inhaled so much dust that his stomach was hemorrhaging. He was found unconscious by the side of the road by a local couple and had to be hospitalized. Apparently he would have bled to death if he’d been left for an hour longer.
But the dust isn’t the only issue. Apparently, Len Taunyane, one of our South African participants, gets chased a mile off course by wild dogs. He still placed 9th.
Probably my favorite participant is our boy Félix. Félix was stopping to chat with spectators in the middle of an Olympic race. At one point he stopped a car because he saw that the riders were eating peaches and asked if he could have some. They refused, but he snatched two anyway and ate them while he ran. He later came across an orchard and stopped to eat some apples, but apparently the apples were rotten, so he got stomach cramps and took a nap. HE STILL GOT FOURTH PLACE. That’s how much of a shitshow this race was, and we’re not even done.
Fred Lorz starts getting cramps around the 9-mile mark and decides to hitch a ride with one of the cars that is guiding them. He’d been leading the charge for a while and was a crowd favorite to win.
The other leader of the pack and favorite to win, Thomas Hicks, started having to use a support crew at the 10-mile mark. He was begging them for water, but they refused. He somehow managed to keep trucking along, though.
Seven miles from the finish line, Hicks’ handlers started feeding him egg whites mixed with strychnine, which is literally rat poison. There were literally no rules against performance-enhancing drugs yet, so this was apparently above-board.
Lorz gets out of the car he was riding in after 11 miles and just,,,, kept running????? He finished the race and was declared the winner. He was about to be given a gold medal when “someone called an indignant halt to the proceedings with the charge that Lorz was an imposter.” Lorz claimed it was all a joke and that he wouldn’t have actually accepted the award, but was still banned from competing in future marathons. That is, of course, until this decision was overturned in time for him to run in and win the Boston Marathon the next year.
Now Hicks had seen Lorz pass by. He was not doing too hot at all, but finding out that Lorz had been disqualified and he was still in the lead helped his motivation. He was given another dose of egg whites and strychnine with some brandy to wash it down, which, sure. Why the fuck not at this point?
At this point, he began to hallucinate. He started to believe that he had 20 more miles left to go instead of just two. He kept begging for food and rest, but his handlers just gave him more brandy and two more egg whites because of course he was. By the time he made it to the finish line, he was literally being carried by his handlers while his feet shuffled, but that was apparently good enough and he was declared the winner.
Tumblr media
It took four doctors and a full hour for Hicks to recover enough to even leave the area after the race. He apparently lost eight fucking pounds during the course of the race. Hicks pretty much retired from racing after that (I wonder why) and became a professional clown, which really is just the cherry on top
Of the 32 people who competed in the race, only 14 finished. After everything, they literally almost removed the marathon as an Olympic event because it was deemed “indefensible on any ground but historic,” and honestly? After reading all that fuckery, I can’t even blame them.
Another note about Félix, because this man baffles me: apparently he was sponsored by the Greek government to compete in a 1906 marathon in Athens, but he never turned up. Newspapers in Cuba claimed he died, but he just??? Showed up a year later in Havana perfectly fine. Turns out he managed to get the date of the marathon wrong.

pet hc
hcs abt if they're pet people, what kind of pets they like, etc. i've got a little free time.
blossom
likes cats but she's too cold for them to come up to her + they lose interest when they realize she's not a reliable source of warmth.
isn't really too big on animals otherwise, mostly because of how messy some of the environments she keeps can get - doesn't like the idea of an animal running around and maybe getting hurt; also doesn't like the idea of having to clean up her organized chaos.
buttercup
had a big reptile phase as a kid, loved dinosaurs. is still kind of into reptiles but doesn't think she's responsible enough to really have a pet.
is chill around other animals, but has a thing against anything too exotic. thinks domesticating foxes and purposeful breeding of wolfdogs is questionable, hates people who own ocelots/servals and anything more wild than a chinchilla.
only exceptions are wildlife conservations, etc.
bubbles
obviously the biggest animal lover. nothing very original here, just has a really big heart and a guilty pleasure for the zoo. animal rights activist. sometimes forgets to take petcare very seriously - which is just as well that she doesn't have one of her own at the moment.
boomer
BUGS. i mentioned this in another post. doesn't care for other animals very much, thinks they're all cool in their own ways, wouldn't be offended if he ended up owning a dog or a cat or a bird, hell, even a fish. nbd.
he has a collection of bugs. he has the pet african snail, stick/leaf bugs, praying mantis, ant collonies, cockroaches, a beetle collection, his pet tarantula.
just,,, NOT reptiles. hates them with a passion.
brick
doesn't like animals. period. not even fish, or something as self-maintaining as an outdoor cat. none of that "acts like he hates them on minute, is cuddling them and spoiling them the next." just straight up has no patience for animals.
if he did for some reason get a pet he'd probably pass it off to butch or boomer to deal with.
butch
dogs. loves dogs. they just get him yk. also likes a lot of farm animals too, like goats and cows and horses. anything big enough that there isn't a threat of him stepping on it by accident.
he probably also likes that in seeing these animals, it's a given that he'll be out of the city to do so. big open pastures, roaming space, etc. (definitely a connection between him and herding dogs.)
brute
she doesn't like animals. she likes… other pets.
brat
nintendogs. neopets. neko atsume. wobble dogs. anything that can work like a pet idle game, or a pet care game, she's into. it's the collection aspect of it, for achievements.
very neutral to pets in real life, probably gets along with them just fine, but doesn't feel the need to really own one. doesn't like the responsibility of one - jokingly calls berserk her pet most of the time.
berserk
really into rodents. has a pet hedgehog and befriended several rats that live in the walls of she and brat's apartment. anything small enough to carry around in her pocket, basically.
she likes the option to have a little companion to accompany her places. has enough sense to not fly around with them. doesn't have any idea how to really care for them but tries her best.
aspires to own a rabbit one day. for that, she'll make sure to actually do her research first.

It's always the wolf that people think of when the topic of "intimidating canines with big scary teeth" is brought up, and I get it bc like,,
Tumblr media
yeah, that IS cool as hell. I dig that
But as cool and intimidating as the teeth of a snarling wolf are...
theyre like.. nothing compared to the absolutely demonic teeth of an african wild dog
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part of me is still not convinced these dudes weren't made as a corporate hoax to advertise a brand of paper shredder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at these motherfuckers!!
Plus, the musculature of their faces makes them appear to be smiling or laughing whenever they bare their teeth, so like... bonus points awarded for style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: they also kill and eat people

I just finished rereading Tortall and Other Lands, and made a totally subjective ranking of the stories. I posted it on reddit but I figured, what the hell, may was well post here too. If i could put it under a cut I would but sadly I am on mobile.
11) Time of Proving
It's good and all; I especially like the concept that the protag, Arimu, has to live alone and map new lands for a year to show her value to her people in order to lead them. But I think I like that bit of worldbuilding more than the actual plot. Though I do think it's pretty cute that Arimu comes up with excuses to keep helping Sunflower. An enjoyable story that's just eclipsed by the greatness of much of the rest of the book.
10) Plain Magic
I like this story. I like the thread magic especially. However, I don't think it really shows us anything new from Tammy if that makes sense. The thread magic, the ignorant folks doing stupid things, the cool stranger whisking away a gifted protagonist to a new life, it's all familiar ground for Tammy fans.
9) Lost
It's hard to put this story so low on the list. It has a lot of qualities to love, but much like Plain Magic it seems like it does mostly what we've seen from other Tammy content. Adria is a girl good at math, which isn't that valuable a thing in her society. But people around her recognize that and take her away to a better place for her, Tortall of course. And we get the darkings, which, cute as they are, seem kinda.. OP. They were OP in Aly's books, too. Ah well, despite my complaints it's still really cool and a fun story. And I love the way it shows the effects of years of abuse and how it makes you feel small. The way Adria's father uses fear to control her whole family, and the way Adria gets away from him by showing her courage, those are important things. I feel sure someone out there was helped by this story, you know?
8) Elder Brother
When I did my ranking, I was baffled that this story was so far down. I really like this story. That's the trouble with ranking stuff you really like, I guess. Fadala is a cool character, Qiom is an even cooler one, and I love reading about Qiom struggling to live his new, more confusing life. Reading about him weeping over his last apples is somehow really sad? And it's very cool to read about a totally different part of the world in the Tortall universe.
7) Huntress
It's very cool to read a modern-day story by Tammy! I love the merging of modern times and the fantasy elements of our usual Tammy stories. It's interesting to see how Corey (I don't think we learn her first name?) isn't devout, and arguably isn't even a believer, but the Goddess still comes to her aid anyway. I suppose it's out of respect for her family. I love the touch of the Goddess wearing modern day running gear. But my favorite thing has gotta be the total utter batshit crazy Pride. What completely insane villains. It's very Tammy to cast the murdering freaks as a bunch of privileged rich douchebags who think they can do whatever they want if they prey on the vulnerable and those that society has deemed as valueless. Golly, does that remind you of anything? It's nice that this story takes a fairly strong 'murder is bad' stance, when even in real life plenty of people are ok with rapists and drug dealers getting murdered. And I like that Tammy shows, through the Lions' threats to rape Corey, that they clearly aren't killing 'bad' people in order to be good guys, but just so they can get away with it easier. Though you could argue that the Goddess killing all the kids somewhat undercuts the 'no murder' message...
6) Testing
Admittedly I probably wouldn't like this one as much as I do if it weren't for the context of it being a semi-autobiographical account of Tammy around the time she rewrote Alanna's books as books for teens. That being said, it's a sweet story that looks at how vulnerable kids can come to trust an adult in lives that have been tumultuous and hard. It's honestly such a feel-good yet realistic tale.
5) Student of Ostriches
I think this one appeals to the kid in me. I was always so enchanted by African animals as a kid and that never really went away. Kylaia teaching herself to fight and run using the animals of her home as inspiration is just unbearably cool to me haha. Though it is much the same as I've said about Plain Magic and Lost in that it's well-trod ground for Tammy, Student of Ostriches really works for me. And it's always nice to have a peek into parts of the Tortall-verse we don't often see.
4) Mimic
I think Mimic sticks in my head more than any other story in Tortall and Other Lands. Ri, Mimic, Grandpa, even the dogs and the crow are all great characters. The beautiful setting, with the great plain and the storms, the dragons, the compact between the village and birds, it's all so memorable. I love that it's about choosing to grow up, and how you can't go back but it's worthwhile and necessary.
3) The Dragon's Tale
Call me basic, but I love dragons! It's so nice to see a story about Kitten, so great to see things from her point of view. Not being able to speak for sixteen years sounds like a freaking nightmare, but she handles it pretty well, I'd say. I like that she clearly thinks of Daine and Numair as her parents, and she adores her bestie Spots, it's just so cute! They really love each other, and I will always be a sucker for stories about people who love each other. But it's not just cute, there's some great meat here in the form of new characters like Afra, Uday, and Kawit and, best of all for me, worldbuilding! I really like when we see glimpses of the Tortall universe that we could never have imagined, as with Beka's unusual wild-adjacent magic. Here we get to see Kawit and learn that she's another example of an immortal that humans overlooked when locking them away four hundred years ago (and we get to see more of Tammy's love of opals lol). I like the subtle implication that opal dragons may be almost a link between classic dragons and basilisks, what with the beaded skin and long long tails. We learn more about Kawit's unusual magic. We get an explicit confirmation of the fact that multiple colors of Gift= more powerful Gift. This whole story is just crammed full of fascinating Tortall content with a soft, gooey center.
2) Nawat
This story is heavy, which is why I like it. I enjoy it when non-human characters are actually characterized as being fundamentally different from humans. It's challenging for the reader and the author to connect with a guy who is considering killing his kid, but I think Tammy succeeds here. It's hard to watch Nawat struggle with the different parts of his life coming together, and sad to see him feeling like his heritage is slipping away. It's nice to see that he really will be able to teach his kids about their own crow heritage when Ochobai grows her first quill. It's also fun to see Aly through his eyes.
1) The Hidden Girl
This story is so good that it makes Elder Brother better just by existing. It's really cool to have Fadala and Teky exploring different attitudes with regard to their culture. While Fadala has an almost Alanna-esque rejection of what her society sees as feminine, we also get to see Teky appreciate what powers women in her society are afforded, and also see her work to change some of the things she sees as wrong. While Fadala isn't willing to play by her people's rules and elects to leave them behind, Teky wants something better for everyone in her homeland. Neither of these attitudes is wrong, they're just different reactions to institutionalized inequality. Like Elder Brother, The Hidden Girl shows us new and fascinating Tortall content in the form of the more monotheistic culture on the far side of the world, which is very cool. We've never really seen an oracle before, and it's a cool new 'badass girl' archetype to add to the Tortall roster. It's all just wonderful, knowing women are changing things all over the world in this verse.

Have you ever walked through a forest at night on your own? Uh, no sir. When was the last time you were in a graveyard? It's been many, many years. Do you know what an ‘AMV’ is? Yep, used to make 'em. How many items are in your recycle bin? (On your computer!) Oh yikes, probably loads. I haven't emptied it in... I don't know how long. Would you rather be a bird or a fish? A bird. What’s one award show you have to watch every year? None. Who do you like more: the Batman or the Joker? Joker. Heath Ledger's is my favorite. Have you ever had a pet rock? No. How much do you weigh? Yeah, no. If you are outside, what are you most likely doing? Taking nature photographs. Have you ever lost your luggage at an airport? No. Have you ever been on a rollercoaster that actually scared you? I don’t do roller coasters to begin with. Have you ever gone in a sauna? Ugh, hell no. Has a stray dog ever tried to bite you? No. Have you ever had an eating disorder? No. Are you attracted to people outside of your race? Yes. Are you in love with anyone at the moment? No. Have you ever dated someone more than once? No. Best cough drop? Those creamy strawberry ones. If you have a pet, does it make a lot of noise? One's a snake, so she's silent as could be. My cat is generally quiet, but he has his times where he just walks around meowing, normally for attention. Are you a fan of eyeshadow? If I actually wear makeup, yeah, I like black eyeshadow. Can you tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi? Absolutely. I don't like Pepsi. Would you feel funny if you kissed somebody of the same sex? Done it before, didn't feel weird. Besides furniture, what’s the biggest thing in your bedroom? A Silent Hill poster. Which of your friends makes you laugh the hardest? Girt. Have you ever been in a Catholic confessional? Yeah, as a kid. What color was the hair of the last person you kissed? Brown. What was the title of the last song you listened to? So today I've really been digging dark synthwave/cyberpunk-ish music, and right now I have a playlist on that's currently playing "DNA War" by Absolute Valentine and Billy Mays. How far away is the closest Walmart? Not even five minutes. Can you do a backflip? No. Who is the lead singer of your favorite band? Well, Ozzy is the lead singer of Ozzy Osbourne, haha. When was the last time you went fishing? Not since Sara visited and we went catfishing with my dad one night. What brand of deodorant do you use? Secret. Have you ever liked someone and never told them? Yes. Do you regret it? Nah. Who was the last person to buy you a drink? My mom, lmaoooo. Who was the last person to buy you dinner? Also my mom, haha. How old is the oldest person you’ve dated? Juan's maybe like... 28 or something by now, idk. Have you ever run a stoplight? No. Have you ever dated someone & then dated their sibling? YIKES, no. That sounds miles beyond awkward. Are both your parents still living? Yeah, thankfully. What’s something that makes you feel more creative? Music, for sure. Do you collect Mason jars to use for crafts? No, but I do find those super cute. What gives you a quality of life? Not much nowadays, idk. What would give you a high quality of life? A sense of purpose, direction, and worth. Do you have any rugs on top of carpet in your home? We have a big one in our living room, yes. I don't get it. Do you have a mattress cover on your bed? Yeah. Do you hate taking naps during the day? No; naps are normal for me. Who has the best personality on YouTube? Maybe I'm biased, but I genuinely do think Mark for a multitude of reasons. He's just extremely likable imo and sincerely a fucking spectacular human being. Do you have any vinyl records? No, but I would love to collect classic rock and metal ones. Which serial killer(s) do you find most fascinating? I'm quite honestly not well-informed in serial killer stories. I think they're interesting, but not enough for me to learn about them. Have you ever visited any celebrity gravesites? No. How do you feel about archaeology? It's fuckin dope. Any animals whose behaviors you find particularly interesting? ALL OF THEM AHHHH!!!!! But I particularly love learning about social animals, like meerkats (mongoose in general, really), African wild dogs, wolves, etc. What are your thoughts on gun control? I don't support the idea of banning firearms altogether, but I am very much in favor of some reform. There needs to be a much, much more strict and complex system in order for you to legally own a gun, and I also support periodic "check ups" to ensure you still fit whatever criteria is laid out. "Bad people will still find guns;" yes, some most certaintly will, but you can't convince me that the numbers wouldn't decrease. It would take a serious villain to put so much effort into pursuing obtaining a firearm. Do you like animals better than most humans? Sure do. Have you ever had to block people online for harassing you? I've blocked people to prevent that. If you collect anything, what is your favorite piece of that collection? I cherish the plush meerkat Jason gave me most, probably; out of my Silent Hill stuff, the limited edition Revelation flyer I have in Japanese. Are you friends with anybody you didn’t like at first? Hi, meet my best friend lmao. Are there any musicians you didn’t like at first, but grew on you? Probably. Do you have any favorite books you’d like to have signed by the author? Not really. Well wait, Ozzy signing my copy of his autobiography would be pretty damn cool. Do you like any board games or card games? I'm not really a board game fan, but Magic: The Gathering is fun as far as card games go. What historical figure(s) are you most interested in? I'm not incredibly interested in any, but I do think Pharaoh Hatshepsut was a bad bitch. She was one of the extremely few female pharaohs, and if my memory serves me right, one of the most successful. Do you like Breaking Benjamin? I sure do. How many people of the opposite sex have you told you loved them? One. Have you ever had to change your phone number? Yes, because I was getting strange texts from numbers I didn't know. Have you ever played bingo at an actual bingo hall? No. What’s your favourite comic book/graphic novel? I don’t read any. What is something you take pride in? How far I've come as far as my mental illnesses go, particularly depression and PTSD. What’s the biggest magnet on your fridge? I'm not getting up to go look. Have you ever eaten a Big Mac? No; I hate lettuce on burgers, so. What brand is your vaccuum cleaner? Dunno. Do you believe in sex before marriage? Sure, but I don't believe it's a must for everyone. Plenty of people don't even want to get married. Be intimate once you're comfortable with the person, and be safe and smart about it. Are you for or against abortion? I'm pro-choice. Do you feel like you need to lose weight? It's fact that I need to. My body just doesn't want to, afuckingpparently. All I seem to be capable of is either maintain or gain nowadays. Is summer your favorite season? It's my least favorite, actually. Do you wear glasses? I'm basically blind without 'em. Can you say the alphabet in more than one language? Yeah, in German. What do you want out of life? To feel like I made a difference, even if it's a small one. Do you ever get carsick? No. Do you groom your eyebrows? Not really anymore, no. Have you ever liked someone who treated you badly? No. When was the last time you went in the car past midnight? Oh boy, probably not since I had my cyst in I think '16. I was in so much agony and we had no painkillers, so I had to wake up Mom to go to Walmart to grab some. They barely even helped at all. God, I couldn't imagine dealing with that again. Were your last two kisses with the same person? Yes. Do you have alcohol in your house? I don't think we do right now, no. Do you have any personal fashion rules that revolve around your own preferences/body type (e.g., you never/always wear a certain color, sleeve type, or length of dress)? Yeah; I don't wear anything that shows my legs unless I shaved, but I will never wear a dress that isn't at least past my knees. Do you remember any celebrity whose style you admired when you were a teen? What do you think of that style now? Avril Lavigne was/is an ICON. I still think she looks badass. So, is it gif with a hard G or soft G? I used to say the opposite, but I say "gif" now. Apparently that's how the creator of the term says it anyway. When you are invited to things like wedding showers or baby showers do you tend to go or skip? What about graduation parties? If Mom is able to take me, I'll try to go to the first two if they're my closer friends. Do you like spicy chips? Oh FUCK yes. What’s the last movie you watched at a friend’s house? Elf with Sara's fam. Can you remember your parents’ birthdays? Mom's, yes. Dad's, only the month. Do you read your friends' surveys? Yep, I love learning about them. Do you know anyone with a glass eye? Not to my knowledge, no. Do you ever use the n-word? Absolutely not. What piercing do you like most on the opposite sex? I tend to like lip piercings. Do you prefer beef, chicken or steak? Chicken. Ever spent the night in a tent? Yeah, multiple times as a kid, "camping" in the yard with Dad, haha. What do you call your grandparents? I called both sets just "Grammy" and "Grampa." Have you ever cried while reading a book? Oh, certainly. How many college degrees do you want? I got none, and I'm not going back to college. Do you know how to play pool? What about foosball? Yes. Have you ever attended a professional sporting event? Yeah, hockey with my dad a few times. Do you own any jerseys? No. Were you born with naturally straight teeth? No; that's why I had braces. If you were the opposite gender, what name would you like to be called? Maybe like... Victor. Idk. Do you prefer original or sour Skittles? I love both, but sour. Do you like bacon bits on your salad? Yeah. What is your favorite kind of soup? I'm not a soup person. Did you learn to type through a computer program for kids? Yeah. What do you take for pain? Advil/Ibuprofen. What is your favorite place that you’ve lived? My pre-teen and teenage years house: in the woods on a dead-end road and down a gravel path that everyone always missed when learning where our house was. The actual road itself had very, very little traffic, and there was a large expanse of cotton fields. I loved it and miss the house itself, but it's got a lot of bad memories rotting in it. Who are your favorite kids that you’ve babysat? My niece and nephew. <3 Who is your favorite cousin? I don't have a favorite. We barely interact at all. Does one side of your family live in another state? Literally none of my extended family (or half-siblings) live in NC. What states did your parents grow up in? New York and Ohio. Have you ever had an allergic reaction to an insect? No. Is there a good hospital where you live? God no. It is notoriously awful. When was the last time you were asked out? Did you accept or decline? Mid-2017. I aceepted. Does your job allow piercings or tattoos? N/A Do you want to get married? If so, what color will your dress be? Yeah. Probably white/ivory or black. Ever had a caricature done of yourself? How much was it, and were you satisfied with it? No. Do you like peanut butter and fluff sandwiches? No, I don't like the texture. If you got married and then got divorced, would you want to re-marry? Probably not. What’s your favorite amusement park? I haven't been to nearly enough to know. Do you play video games? If so, what kind? Yeah. My favorite are horror games, but I also love me some story-driven survival games like The Last of Us, and then there's "kids" games like Spyro, etc. I like a looot of different kinds. Would you buy used clothes? I don't think so. I know it's easy to wash clothes and stuff, I'd just still feel kinda... grossed out by it.

Disney Movies List
Ok first of all I want to make clear that english is not my first language. I therefore apologize in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Please don't be too strict with me =D
I recently bought Disney+ and I plan now to watch and review every movie, Disney has ever produced or participated in it. And I tell you, this will be a hell of a trip, because my list now contains no fewer than 701 movies. That means if I watch at least one movie every day, it will take me about 2 years to see all of them. And since I will most likely not watch a movie every day, I will definitely need at least twice as long....
For the films on my list, which I marked with a cross at the end, it means that I have seen them already. However, since I last saw most of these movies in my childhood or teenage years (so at least 15 years ago), it will be interesting for me to rewatch them after such a long time. I have probably already forgotten most of the plots.
I also plan to watch them in chronological order and rank them. The movies that I don't find on Disney+ I will watch somewhere else.
Here is the list: (The films follow the chronological order in which they were published. However, it is quite possible that I accidentally swapped a few. But I think most of it is accurate).

Are you named after anyone?
Nah, I was blessed with a weird name not based on anything rooted in the rational world.
When was the last time you cried?
I’m not really a cryer on a general basis.. animal movies and kids movies get me sometimes (I mean Toy Story 3 made me sob). But anyway, on Monday I was super sick, had vomited like 80 times, I was dehydrated, delirious, and watching a nature doc where African wild dogs were hunting together made me cry. Nature is amazing okay.
Do you have kids?
No. Hard pass.
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Mmhm
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Hair for sure
What’s your eye color?
Blue
Scary movie or happy ending?
Scary movies are my fave
Any special talents?
Obsession? Bullshitting? I don’t know.
Where were you born?
In the midwestern hell of central Missouri
What are your hobbies?
I have horses, so they’re cool I guess. Binge watching anything. Tom Hollander. He counts right?
Do you have any pets?
I have a mini schnauzer, Jax. He’s an ass but I love him. 2 horses, Whiskey and Jack. I know, Jax and Jack? I didn’t name either. Had the dog first, and it’s bad luck to change a horse’s name and I’m a superstitious bitch so 🤷🏼‍♀️
What sports do you play/have you played?
Never been super athletic, rode horses on a drill team, played golf in high school and was the girls basketball manager
How tall are you?
5’5? Ish?
Favorite subject in school?
English or Art
Dream job?
Weird but I want to be an equine chiropractor. But you have to be a vet or a regular chiropractor to get the certification and nobody got time or can afford student loans for that.
I’m not going to tag anyone one it but would love to be tagged back for any of my followers that want to participate!! 😘

Gargoyles - Awakening
Gonna do all four, five parts in this one post.
I know, I know. I’ve been doing the read more thing lately. It’s not my usual fare, but hey, it’s November. I’m NaNoing so... Yeah, you know the drill.
Tumblr media
Part 1
Ahh, this animation style. It’s just straight up nostalgia - ELISA MAZA. My girl! <3 Man, I’ve missed her!
Clawmarks in solid stone. GASP. I wonder what that could have been caused by!
Back to the past!
Why doesn’t that guy’s mustache match his hair?
Sun’s looking real low there, boys.
Ahh, Goliath. How I have missed you, big guy! And that voice. A+ voice.
So, kid' show. Remember. I don’t even know how many of these people are dead now. At least a few have fallen to their deaths. In the first episode.  Cause in Gargoyles, shit like this happens.
Royal bitch lady and even the soldiers griping about the Gargoyles. Bitch, please. Ya’ll owe them so much. Beasts? Beasts in the dining hall? Jeez, don’t be an ass. Ugggh. Those assholes.
I’m sitting here on Demona’s side. And not anymore. Not down with the bowing. Goliath being reasonable. Good guy Goliath. Such a sweetie, such a good guy. I’m so, so sorry for what he’ll have to go through soon.
Seriously. Goliath’s voice. Goddamn. Goddamn!
Okay, that mom was rude but you don’t need to be making matters worse by scaring the bitch-ass peasants.
Ugh. Okay, so I don’t like that it’s Vikings coming to attack (cause I like Vikings) but this is just all a human problem. This cowardace, betrayal... Uggggh. And the poor innocents who have to pay. The children and the Gargoyles. And so many defenseless Gargoyles murdered.
I remind you, this is a kid’s show.
Part 2
Ahhh, I’ve gotten how much I loved the opening music for this. Such an epic theme! Hyping me up for the upcoming adventure!
I don’t blame them for wanting revenge. I’d want revenge too.
Of course they’d follow for revenge, you dumbass! You didn’t kill all of them.
Ugggh. The Magus blaming the Gargoyles for the princess being killed. Even though they didn’t do it. Oh man, this curse. It’s not their fault, you assfart. And the princess still lives!
Mad props to Goliath for saving the Princess who was a bitch. Also mad props to the princess for realising the Gargoyles were not the beasts she thought. Ahhh. My heart though. Goliath choosing to be spelled rather than be alone. (Although honestly, he could’ve just waited until the eggs in the rookery hatched and then he wouldn’t be alone cause he could raise them.
Bitch just legit ran all the way inside and up the stairs. So excited to see Goliath. Makes it clear from the start that Xanatos is extra AF.
“Pay a man enough and he’ll walk barefoot into hell.”
Seriously, how much money does this motherfucker have? Cause he’s paying to buy a castle and paying everything to take at least some chunks of it and affix it on top of his skyscraper.
And the curse is broken! Woo! Their reaction to the city though. A+.
Xanatos, you extra mother fucker.
Oh, the eggs are gone. RIP. Although it has been 1000 years...
I’m just shaking my head at this entire fight.
LOL. “These weapons. We must be fighting sorcerers!”
Oh, and now we’re seeing what lead to the beginning of the first episode. Hello Elisa.
No, Goliath. Don’t trust Xanatos. Oh no, wait, trust humans. Just not that one.
Part Thre?e
Seriously though, how were girls supposed to watch this show without getting a crush on Goliath? Just saying.
And hell, Elisa. Elisa’s a babe too. Can we talk about her? How she’s smart, brave, and awesome. A badass babe who’s a damn good detective with a lovely heart. And she’s a POC! And a main character!  Legit, she’s  African/Native American. She was always  meant to be a POC. Originally they had her as Hispanic, but when they cast her voice actress they changed Elisa to match. And this in a show that came out in 94!
So Elisa just met Goliath during all the time that I was babbling about Elisa.
Dude, I don’t do heights so I can’t blame her one bit for clinging.
Ahh, these two. “A good detective trusts no one.” “That much we have in common.” You say that, you both say that. But nahhh, you’re cinnamon rolls underneath all that distrust.
Floppy! That’s a floppy! AHH. VHS!
Hi Demona. Think I didn’t recognise you in those shadows there?
This show is sometimes really pretty.
“Stay outta sight.” Solid advice that will quickly be forgotten.
AHH. Just scooped her up! And that smile. AHH. Bridal style. Ahhhh.
Gods, this music. XD
Meanwhile, back at the castle. The newly named Hudson is walking around with their pouty pupper. And getting startled by rock’n’roll.
Jesus lady. A car with a carphone in 94? 40 grand... You’re talking like he brought it from some junkyard.
Meanwhile, the other three are blowing up some guy’s motorbike.
Oh, well. Who knew a single tranq dart would be enough to take down a Gargoyle. Or did they get him a few more times after that. I don’t know.
Part 4
Dunnnn, dun dun dun dun dunnnnnn!
There’s my girl, kicking some ass! They underestimated her. Also they don’t know how to aim.
Oh god, don’t try calling a taxi. That won’t end well. Yup, there he goes.
Yup, just a single tranq dart. Just one. Just now taken off. And a tracker.
Elisa the beast whisperer. Taming wild dogs long enough to put the tracker on him. Smart girl.
Hudson and puppers are getting used to the idea of television. Oh, I saw The Lion King for a second there. I see what you did there Disney.
And Elisa now knows he turns to stone during the day. Brave girl, catching their eye and leading them away. You know she’s gotta be exhausted. It’s been a long night for her and yet she’s still being a champion. Gods, I love her.
Again, their aim is rubbish while hers is on point. Go Elisa! <3
That lighting though, when the blond baddie stepped over the crack. Ahhhh.
Also what part of New York city is this that has a dock and a waterfall?
This guy is an idiot. Again, underestimating my girl.
Moment of awe and respect for Elisa. Leading those jackasses away, risking her life, and then returning to guard Goliath! <3
Brooklyn! Broadway! Lexington! Ahhh, my precious boys! And let’s not forget our adorable Bronx! <3
And NOW. NOW he reveals that Demona’s there. Insert gasp of shock from Goliath. And sinister look from Demona, a character who was never very good. And full of bullshit. Yeah, sure. He acquired her for his private collection, but she implied she asked to be cursed by the magus to be with them. AHH Goliath, you’re still in wuv with the bitch.
Ugggh, Goliath, sweetie. She’s no good.
Of course the Elevator is different. You’re looking at the mechanics that pull it up and down, not the one people ride in. Such a good detail there.
Part 5
FLOPPY ACQUIRED.
I feel bad for all the frightened scientists in that building. Jeez, imagine their nightmares after that.
Talk of monsters, you say? As if your people haven’t fought them before, eh? It almost smacks of a miscommunication. Of course, the defenders dressing differently from the attackers don’t seem to register to the Gargoyles. Then again, they have yet to see a reason not to trust Demona and Xanatos. Poor darlings.
Second floppy acquired.
NYOOM.
And now for Goliath and Demon to complete their mission... Success, but of course Demona fucks up their poor ship because she gives no shits about the well-being of humans. Splash. At least they had a softish landing in the water. Some of them should’ve survived. Most probably died.
Again, this is a kid’s show.
Ahhh, that hate. Hating all the humans for the sins of a few who are long gone.
Ahhh, the truth comes out! The attackers are from Xanatos’ company. No one had stolen anything from him. He sent them after disks that didn’t belong to him! Gasp! He used them from the beginning! Colour me shocked! (Which I’m not, of course.) And of course Demona’s in on it.
Dudeee, the Goliath bots. I forget what they’re called. But goddamn are they cool.
That isn’t a very sturdy bot, Xanatos. Should’ve made them more impact resistant.
I’d ask why he bothered with waking up Goliath and his friends to begin with, but it’s more cost effective to have a self-healing attack dog than a robotic one. Obviously he was hoping he’d get the actual Gargoyles on his side, expecting them to play nice - which he did very well except with Goliath himself.
Ah, Demona with a rocket launcher.
Ahhh, the reveal. Demona had betrayed them along with the captain. Tsk tsk. And now everyone hears it.
Elisa to the rescue! Woo!
Oh no, they both fell! And Demona’s wings got hit! And Goliath caught Elisa, but not Demona who fell out of view. Bye bitch. See ya later.
And Xanatos has been arrested. I don’t recall how long that lasts.
“Good, maybe we’ll catch a Giants game.” “Giants?” Ahahaha, he has no idea what she’s talking about and it’s precious.

11 Random Questions
I got tagged by @lilliputianmerriell <3! So here we go.
✰ post the rules
✰ answer the questions given to you by the tagger
✰ write eleven questions of your own
✰ tag eleven people
1) If you could be a world leader for a day, what would your first rule be?
Dismantle capitalism and send the rich to the guillotine
2) What is the soundtrack of your life?
WILD by Troye Sivan
Hard Times by Paramore
Eyes Shut by Years & Years
Ultralife by Oh Wonder
(I couldn’t pick okay).
3) If you could see your future, would you? Why/Why not?
Yeah I’d like to. To see if I ever get my PhD and an actual paying job in zoology one day (hopefully in the next 3 years). It would let me know all this studying and being dirt poor isn’t for nothing.
4) What is you fondest memory?
Not sure, probably just working with my uni friends in the field and in the labs. Just doing science and field work. My last practical class of my degree last year was really special. It was all on bees, so we got to see a ton of cool bee specimens and work with the hives. It was a nice end of my degree and felt like a nod to my degree I’m starting in a few weeks (I’ll be working on honey bees!)
5) Do you speak any other languages? If not, what would you like to learn?
No I don’t, I tried to learn Italian off my Nonna and Greek off my dad but I was horrible at it. Couldn’t wrap my head around it. I’d like to learn Italian and Greek, cause my family speaks it. It’d be nice to talk to my family overseas in their language.
6) Pick a fictional character you relate to and explain why
I relate alot to Elliot (mr. robot) just cause of his social ability and anxiety ect. But I usually don’t relate to fictional characters.
7) Winter, Autumn, Spring or Summer?
As an Australian, Summer is literally hell so Winter or Autumn.
8) Discourse or duel?
Duel all the way. Discourse makes me so mad I’d rather just punch a bih then waste time talking a word to half the people on here.
9) Favourite non-fictional book?
Oh man I have so many, all of them scientific based so I’ll just list a few:
Alex & I by Irene Pepperberg
The Bee Book: Beekeeping in Australia by Peter Warhurts and Roger Goebel
Evolution’s Rainbow; diversity, gender, and sexuality in nature and people by Joan Roughgarden
African Wild Dogs: On the front line by Brendan Whittington-Jones
10) If you could be a criminal who never got caught, what type of crimes would be the one you always committed?
I’d just straight up violently murder transphobes and homophobes. Esp the ones that murdered LGBT+ people. Soooo murder and stealing. I’d just straight up robin hood the rich.
11) What was something good that happened this week?
Finished moving into my new place and finally got the wifi sorted and reconnected so that was a lot of stress gone.
My Questions!
What animal would you be and why?
Your favourite lyrics
A random childhood memory
Favourite Beyonce song and why?
Which is better; having high expectations or having low expectations?
Favourite Album
Do you have any tattoos? If so, what are they? If not, what tattoos would you like?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
A book or book series you’d recommend?
List three things you live about yourself
If you were a Pokemon what would be your type and why

RIP Rocky Johnson
Sad news this week as former WWE legend Rocky Johnson passed away at age 75. I remember watching Rocky and Tony Atlas, The Soul Patrol, win the then WWF Tag Team Championships and defend those titles in Providence and Boston as a kid. They were the first African-American champions in the company’s history defeating the Wild Samoans in 1983. Who could ever forget that misplaced chair shot by Captain Lou Albano! Plus, who could forget his memorable feuds with The Magnificent Don Muraco, Greg Valentine among others. And of course, he’s the father of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson. Through it all, Johnson did it with class in the ring and out. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans.

Before we got to RAW, NXT UK took over Blackpool a second time and in a surprise ending, The Undisputed Era jumped WALTER after his title defense against Joe Coffey. It’ll be fun to see TUE and Imperium clash again come Worlds Collide on Royal Rumble Weekend.
NXT UK: TakeOver Blackpool II
Eddie Dennis defeated Trent Seven
NXT UK Women’s Title Match: Kay Lee Ray defeated Piper Niven & Toni Storm to retain title
Tyler Bate defeated Jordan Devlin
NXT UK Tag Team Title Ladder Match: Gallus defeated Imperium, South Wales Subculture, & The Grizzled Young Veterans to retain titles

The Usos – Jimmy and Jey started the week late-night on WWE Backstage, entertaining us all with some insights with Renee Young and pals. Then, after a win over The Revival with an awe-inspiring top rope splash from Jimmy, The Usos save cousin Roman Reigns’ bacon against Robert Roode. They’re everywhere this week.
RAW
RESULTS
Triple Threat Match: Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton & AJ Styles
Ricochet defeated Mojo Rawley
Charlotte Flair defeated Sarah Logan
Mojo Rawley defeated 24/7 Champion R-Truth to win title after Brock Lesnar beatdown
Bobby Lashley defeated Rusev
Raw Tag Team Title Match: The Viking Raiders defeated The Singhs to retain titles
Aleister Black defeated Buddy Murphy
Erick Rowan defeated unnamed local wrestler
Fist Fight Match: Seth Rollins & The AOP defeated Big Show, Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe
What we loved:
Yup…….@RonKillings really DID interrupt the #WWEChampion @BrockLesnar & @HeymanHustle on #RAW! pic.twitter.com/dRSLLTPn5a
— WWE (@WWE) January 14, 2020
Brock has a personality – It’s true. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar can speak and can actually have a laugh or two. All it took was a boisterous Kentucky crowd and R-Truth to do it! And of course, after a few laughs, Lesnar got to business by beating down R-Truth, allowing a lucky Mojo Rawley to pick up the scraps and the 24/7 Championship.
It was @WWE_Murphy who joined @WWERollins & #AOP in the #FistFight on #RAW! pic.twitter.com/hmbmIrNyRa
— WWE (@WWE) January 14, 2020
Buddy Murphy vs. Aleister Black III – How good was that! The trilogy delivers in spades and gets a great TV spot in the final hour of RAW. And with Black’s win, it didn’t take long for Murphy to get back on the winning side, joining sides with Seth Rollins and the Authors of Pain to take Big Show down in the main event. We can only hope that Black will now join sides with Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe as well to even things up.
What we didn’t love:

Fist Fight Match Huh? – How does a fist fight match not end in someone actually going down by way of a fist? Seriously?! WTF. We get the match ending by way of the referee’s discretion. Not sure I fully understand the rationale behind that one. Now, having said that, the Kevin Owens skate park-like flip off the titan tron was damn cool!
Back to squashes – The Viking Raiders took less than a minute to take out the Singhs. Two minutes for Charlotte Flair to dismiss Sarah Logan. And of course, about 90 seconds for Erick Rowan to squash a nobody. Sometimes, quantity doesn’t over quality.
NXT
RESULTS
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 1st Round: Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne defeated Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 1st Round: Grizzled Young Veterans defeated Time Splitters (Alex Shelley & Kushida)
For a Shot at The NXT Cruiserweight Title at World’s Collide: Isaiah Scott defeated Lio Rush & Tyler Breeze
NXT Women’s Championship Number One Contender’s Battle Royal: Bianca Belair (last two: Belair and Io Sherai)

Even @AngelGarzaWwe is impressed by THIS. WOW. #WWENXT @itsLioRush @itsLioRush pic.twitter.com/zsDWUh56Bw
— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) January 16, 2020
Triple Threat Trifecta – I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of Lio Rush on RAW, but in NXT, he’s been awesome! Tyler Breeze is a treat taking on the new stars of Full Sail. And how about Isaiah “Swerve” Scott coming up with the swerve and the victory with the JML driver for a shot at NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza. With all due respect to TNA, this was complete total non-stop action from start to finish!
SHE DID IT!!! The #ESTofNXT @BiancaBelairWWE has WON the No. 1 Contender's #BattleRoyal! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/YMRL7hTCb8
— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) January 16, 2020
The Battle Royale – Usually battle royals disappoint, but this one did not. We got debuts in the form of Mercedes Martinez and Shotzi Blackheart. We got surprising returns in the form of Kacy Catanzaro. We got a surprise entrant in Shayna Baszler. And finally, we got a surprise winner with Bianca Belair getting a shot at Rhea Ripley’s NXT Women’s Championship.
The Undisputed Era vs. everyone – Whether it was trying to take out WALTER at NXT TakeOver or trying to take out Keith Lee on NXT’s opening salvo or later on tackling Tommaso Ciampa, TUE was all about the domination this week. Although, this car flip from Keith Lee’s gotta leave a mark!
"WITHIN ME, The PROPHECY ENDS NEXT WEEK!" – @RealKeithLee #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/mP1A8uVwhE
— WWE (@WWE) January 16, 2020
DIY Reunion – Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are back together! Sure, it’s only for one match at World Collide against Moustache Mountain after Gargano helped saved Ciampa against TUE, but we’ll take it.
The upset – Sure, didn’t we all expect The Time Splitters to win their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic first round match? I mean, who expected Alex Shelley and Kushida to lose in their first match back in NXT together? Kudos to the Grizzled Young Veterans for the upset.
SMACKDOWN
RESULTS
John Morrison defeated Big E
The Usos defeated The Revival
Non-title match: Lacey Evans defeated Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley
Alexa Bliss defeated Sonya Deville
What we loved:
Slo-mo JoMo. @TheRealMorrison #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/RoB1n9PUB3
— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) January 18, 2020
The return of the super slo-mo – How could you not enjoy a super slo-mo entrance from the returning John Morrison and The Miz in Morrison’s first WWE match since 2011? Plus, a win to boot. Nice week for the M&M boys. I see a tag-team title match in their immediate future.
Team Hell No – Kane comes back to help Daniel Bryan surprise The Fiend in a quick reunion of Team Hell No! Short, sweet and to the point to move the story forward. Now, if they can just get rid of that damn red lighting for The Fiend. It does nothing for me (or anyone else)!.
Meh:
Comeuppance #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/ysAEFOYzLd
— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) January 18, 2020
More Corbin vs. Reigns – It seems like these two have been feuding longer than Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes back in the NWA/WCW days. Maybe it’ll finally end at the Royal Rumble as the two tangle in a match, thanks to Reigns beating Robert Roode Friday night on Smackdown. Reigns picked an obvious falls count anywhere match. I would’ve gone for the dog-collar match that would’ve fit the feud and dog food spotlight a bit better. Probably a bit too violent for the family folks at WWE though. The Usos were pretty fly though taking out Dolph Ziggler and helping Reigns get the win in the tables match.
Parting shots:
Freddie Prinze Jr. on WWE Backstage was pretty entertaining. The dude, as he should, cut a pretty decent promo against Xavier Woods.
I so would’ve marked out if Brock Lesnar had pinned R-Truth for the 24/7 Title! It would’ve been great to see how sneaky and underhanded the WWE Superstars could be in trying to outsmart Lesnar for a quick 1-2-3 count for a title many levels beneath the coveted WWE Championship. It could’ve made for some entertaining television for a few weeks.
Yes or no – do you want to see CM Punk be a surprise entrant for the Royal Rumble next week in Houston? Something tells me we’ll get Booker T in his hometown. You just know there’s going to be some cheating references in their that night with the MLB/Houston Astros scandal fresh in everyone’s minds.
Thanks for letting us share our thoughts! Shoot me an email at [email protected]. We’d love to hear your comments and suggestions! You can also check out my blog, The Crowe’s Nest as we delve into more pro wrestling, sports entertainment and the World of Sports. My apologies ahead of time – I AM a Patriots and Red Sox fan! If you’re not down with that, I’ve got TWO WORDS for you… NEW ENGLAND!

Band interview with SUCK LORDS(Portland/USA)
Tumblr media
I do not really remember how I came across to their demo on Youtube, However, it was a fuckin’ blaster! Fast as fuck. It is like a scraped broken van which does not have brake rolling down Holmenkollen. I love this whatever, we play fuckin fast! Attitude. I felt what the heck going on with this crazy dudes? and try to find information and nothing I could really find about them. I really wanted to know what’s going on with this band then I fortunately could grab its tail somehow.
Check their demo first here
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfWuVJA6yqs
youtube
Interview starts from bewlo;
-So,who is in the band? are there any bands which any of you have played or been playing or currently playing beside SUCK LORDS?
J: Foot, Tam, Karl, myself. I was in Nasa Space Universe for eight years and currently in U-NIX. I've had a lot of smaller projects back home in California that maybe only ever played once or just recorded and never played shows.
F(sam aka foot): In recent times I was in HEAVY HANDS, SWEATS, MONGOLOID, now I'm in SUCK LORDS and CHOW LINE.
-Is there anyone who is deeply involved in any DIY punk activities like running label, writing zines, taking pictures, designing, organising shows etc in SUCK LORDS?
J: I take a lot of pictures of shows and people that I like and respect. I booked shows constantly from 2009-2015 in Orange County and LA and did a lot of collages for flyers and 7”s or LP covers. I don't like to book shows in Portland.
F:I do a mean zine called Not For Everyone that focuses on HC punk and skateboarding. Issue five coming soon! Anyone out there, I want to trade zines! Get at me [email protected]
I'll book ya a show if you twist my arm and do a lot of flyers and tape art for the bands I play in.
-Is there anyone who is deeply involved in any activities which is not any relation to DIY/punk thing? Art, Other type of music, publication, extreme sports or any other?
F: Me and Karl skateboard, other than that I work a lot as a bartender and spend my money on HC, punk, metal, hard rock, kraut rock records. The rest of my time is spent outside with my dog or watching movies.
J: Matt plays hockey. I read a lot. I like to ride the bus or train around the outskirts of Portland and look for weird stuff or people. I like collecting photography books. I mostly listen to death metal lately but I grew up on funk, soul, and oldies and got into hardcore punk when I was eight years old. I also really like old electric slide guitar gospel and delta blues- niche stuff like that; west African funk/rock.
-How did SUCK LORDS start in the beginning? How did all of you get together? Did you know each others before it started?
F: Karl and Tam were jamming and I invited myself to join them. We were all in SWEATS together. I've known john for years from touring and he had moved to town so we asked him to sing. Nothing exciting there!
J: I joined late. I was already in U-Nix with Karl and have been friends with Foot for a long time. I didn't meet Tam until the first Lords practice I came to.
-Why did you want to form SUCK LORDS?
F: We were just in the practice space a lot with other bands and it just kind of happened, but like with any band we're in the mission is to blow away all the weak and boring bands this town is polluted with!
Tumblr media
-Was there any specific idea of sound before SUCK LORDS started?
F: Not really, in the beginning they were all riffs that Tam wrote, I remember him saying he wanted it to sound "punk". Maybe like rancid or somethin ya know?
-How do you describe the sound of the band by your own words?
J: “faster than Gang Green”. “Fast as hell.”
F: It can only be described as "LORDS music". High speed retardation.
-Is there any specific bands gave influence/inspiration to SUCK LORDS?
F: JFA, Suicidal, Neos, Nikoteens, Stark Raving Mad, Nun fuckers
J: H100s
-What kind of elements/influences do individual members bring to the band to sounds like SUCK LORDS?
F: Karl can drum faster than shit but he still hits hard and is tight and writes interesting, non typical parts.Tam is kinda the same way with riffs, pretty weird sometimes but always ripping. I just want to play as fast and hard as possible and jump around like a moron making loud abrasive noises.
J: I wanted to have a Jerry’s Kids vocal style going on but when I heard my own voice it was more like a whiny little kid voice.
-How did you decide the band name? is there any special meaning?
F: when we were looking for a singer, Tam said "anyone could sing as long as they weren't a SUCK LORD".
J: Punk ran out of names and Suck Lords was the only one left.
-How's the punk scene in Portland in general? Lot of things going on there?
J: Busy 3 months out of the year. The rest is of the year everyone is really complacent and lazy and spends their time in bars. The average punk doesn't care about the scene or put forth the effort but there's a solid handful of people that genuinely care and have cool shit going on. There are a lot of great bands and a few that stink.
F: Zzzzzzzzzz, bring a fuckin book.
-How do you think about playing in a band in Portland? Are there good venues or squat for punk shows?
J: The venue makes all the difference in crowd reaction. People feel restricted at bars but house shows get wild. No squats here, all those buildings are now expensive lofts from what im told. It's hard for people to have fun here; they don't like to move around.
F: It can be hard, "punks" here are real complacent, lazy, too old, or already know what super specific sub genre of punk they've limited themselves to, so getting a real gut reaction to music is a rare occurrence and can make playing gigs pretty disheartening. There have been some house shows happening which is sick because they're always more fun, I'm glad there's a few houses who have been providing that space for us and hope they last. Blackwater Bar is an all ages bar venue that is run and operated by great people, the know is another excellent bar venue staffed by people involved in or at least sympathetic to DIY punk.
Tumblr media
-Which bands are you playing together a lot? any bands you feel sympathy as in a same scene?
F: we play with UNIX and IMPULSE CONTROL who we share members with. I sympathize with them cuz I'm always farting in the practice space. We definitley get offered gigs way less than any of our other bands, I think we've done like six shows in close to two years??
J: The last two shows we played we were the only local band. The people in this band are also in all the bands we play with.
-Is there any bands you feel sympathy for the sound/attitude in abroad?
F: YAMBAG from Cleveland are good contemporaries as far as sound goes, there's a handful of bands I like right now but I won't bore you.
J: Nosferatu, Roobydocks, wild child (RIP), inservibles (RIP), the lowest form, good throb, Orden Mundial, Perspex flesh.
-Is there any good bands out there in Portland which we should keep our eyes on in these days?
J: Hacksaw, Extraneous, impulse Control, decomp
F: and UNIX
-Have you played outside of US? Probably not yet, but is there any plan for tours in abroad?
J: I only make plans for the week. Next month is a mystery.
F: I really doubt this band will make it out of the country. Talks of a US tour with UNIX have been happening but we'll see...
-What are the lyrics mainly about?
J: Cryptozoology, unexplained phenomena, black eyed children encounters, psychic vampires, the large number of disappearances of hikers and hunters from the national parks in the US; creepy stuff. Stuff or people that suck.
-How do you guys compose songs? some specific members are dedicated to it to bring completed song? or more like bring some riffs and developing it by jamming?
F: Me or Tam usually bring full songs to practice but I think we're at a point where we could make songs by jamming. John seems to come up with vocal patterns and lyrics pretty quickly after the songs materialize.
-You guys released tape from Edger records. But I couldn't find any information about the label. How did this happen? Who is behind the label?
F: EDGER is my thing. It's not really a label, I just wanted to be able to attach a name to the things our bands are doing. Most of the releases are funded equal parts by the band members and any money made goes back to the bands. Releases are:
NFE 001-CHOW LINE-six trax ripper demo
NFE 002- SWEATS DEMO
NFE 003- HEAVY HANDS/SWEATS west coast tour split cs
NFE 004- SUCK LORDS DEMO
NFE 005- CHOW LINE DEMO 2
-Why do you choose tape as format of release? was there any attachment for tape?
J: It's cheap and fast.
F: You can play em in a boom box, ya know like at the skatepark or walking down the street with your fuck up friends.
-Is there any specific goal/aim for SUCK LORDS to achieve?
J: To have the best worst band name in punk. We’ve succeeded.
F: To rip as hard as possible and be done playing before these dorks knew what hit em.
-What is the further plan for SUCK LORDS?
J: Record more and play more.
F: Go fuckin mental mate oi oi

Welcome (back) to Among Us, OLIVIA! ANNABETH CHASE ( with the faceclaim of GABRIELLA WILDE ) has found shelter in NEW ATHENS, where we hope SHE will fit in nicely. Please make sure to check the “after applying” section of our navigation here!
We’re glad you decided to re-submit your adition! You’ve proved to be an active member of our little group and we’re more than happy to give you wise girl’s spot. The best thing about your Annabeth, which should play off well with Micah’s Percy, is that while the trauma at this point doesn’t take over their lives, an event such as Tartarus still affects their lives, even if people who don’t know Annabeth that well wouldn’t be able to see it. Annabeth feels like a person who presents herself as stronger as she looks, only allowing herself to be more vulnerable around people she trusts and we appreciate that because of well it goes with canon.
AND YOU ARE…?
What is your full name, and when were you born?
Back straightening, Annabeth sat the smallest bit taller in her chair, a sense of professionalism coming over her. “I’m Annabeth Chase, and I was born on July 12th, 1993.” Though she would answer everything asked of her, she was a little miffed she was here at all. Honestly, she’d been coming to Camp for over fifteen years. Surely they should be able to answer these questions without her. There was still lean in the roof of that coffee shop she was meant to fix, not to mention the more troublesome news of the Recall.
Have you been claimed, or do you belong to a legacy? If yes, state your godly parent / heritage.
For a moment Annabeth clammed slightly, having always been sensitive about the way she was born. But maybe if she focused more on how she had been brought down from Olympus they wouldn’t ask those idiotic and uncomfortable questions about having a bellybutton. “When you’re brought down from the heavens in a golden cradle, it’s a bit difficult not to consider myself claimed by Athena from birth.” She couldn’t deny that being claimed from the very beginning was one of the things she was most proud of as a child of Athena. Even before Percy had made the gods promise to claim their children by the age of thirteen, Athena had already been doing it from the moment her children were created. “I guess not all Athena children are guaranteed to know their mother from birth though. My dad didn’t tell me, so I didn’t find out until much later.”
Where are you currently based? Are you attending a Camp (Half-Blood / Jupiter), or are you living full-time in New Athens / New Rome? Is it a combination of both?
“Well outside of summers I live in New Athens. But once summer begins and all the younger demigods start trickling in I shift over into Camp Half-Blood. I like helping to train the next generation of heroes and everything. I’m not really the cabin counselor though. Shifting between counselors twice a year is only asking for a power struggle, and the Athena cabin doesn’t need to be divided by that. That being said, I guess I’m sort of an adviser to the counselor.” After a slight shrug, a glint of a smirk spread across Annabeth’s face. “They wouldn’t dare try and keep me out of the counselor meetings though. Not after what happened last time.”
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? ( If you’re applying for a canon character, are you diverging from book-canon? If so, how?)
A fall into Tartarus does much to change a person, and though Annabeth was in many ways unchanged, there were parts of the almost never-ending hell that would stay with her always. The most notable were the nightmares. Annabeth thought she had known nightmares before, what with dreaming of spiders attacking her from a very young age. But even scarier than tangible spiders coming after her were the nightmares of her and Percy trapped in Tartarus. With spiders crawling over every bit of her when she was little, she only had herself to worry about. Adding Percy to the danger of her new nightmares made them infinite times more disturbing. Instead of being concerned only for her safety, she was also worrying after the life of Percy. For a good time, it wasn’t uncommon for Annabeth to wake in a cold sweat only to find herself sprinting barefoot over to cabin three in a desperate bid to make sure Percy was unharmed. Her dreams were vivid, and she had no interest in taking chances with Percy’s safety. Though the nightmares have become less regular, they do become more frequent in times of stress or danger. Ever since the Recall happened and news of demigods was leaked, sleeping has become more of a task.
This isn’t the only way Tartarus has changed her. Annabeth has always had a cool head in battle, always ready with a plan. This still remained true, but her planning was taken to new levels. Suddenly, Annabeth was hyper vigilant, always coming up with plans of escape should she be attacked at any given moment of the day. How fast could she make it to a window in a room to get out in the event of an attack? How many people could she get through said window to safety if a monster burst through the door? Though Annabeth’s gotten better at curbing this new instinct, she still finds herself doing it from time to time, never being able to fully relax.
What were you doing prior to The Recall?
Nowadays, Annabeth works as an active architect after having graduated from university in New Rome, and has had a heavy hand in designing many of the buildings of New Athens. But ever since the demigod city was completed, she’s had less work. The only thing she was guaranteed to build on a semi regular basis were more ‘tiny houses’ that served as the cabins for the lesser gods and goddesses. As a solution to her ever-growing boredom and underutilized creativity, she began to venture into the mortal world of architecture, trying to build a platform upon which she could build notoriety. Thus far Annabeth’s had good success with her endeavor, recently gaining the attention of some high profile clients. Unfortunately, to her dismay, the recent Recall has put a rather large wrench in her plans. But perhaps it’s partially a blessing in disguise, as she can focus more on another dream of her’s which is to continue the building of the University of New Athens, a sister school to the college in New Rome.
“ Don’t be silly! It’s most certainly not a blessing in disguise. Now I’ll have to start all over when we’re allowed in the mortal world again! If we’re allowed in the mortal world again. I’m glad to work on the university, but I could have managed both easily. Not to mention all the other terrible things that come with not being allowed in the mortal world… ”
SHOWTIME!
When it was first announced, she found herself wondering if it would become one of those questions people asked in the years to come, when they were all huddled around a table and reminiscing about happenings past. Do you remember where you were when the twin towers in New York City fell? Do you remember where you were when the first African-American president was elected? Do you remember where you were when Zeus made the Recall? For Annabeth, she had been squinting at a temple across the square of the main market within the new and polished walls of New Athens— wondering if Greek Corinthian columns had really been the right choice for it rather than Greek Ionic. It wouldn’t be too late to change it. All she would have to do would be to contact the overseer of the temple, make a few changes on her sketches, and call the contractor. But as she titled her head to the side ever so slightly for a change of perspective, her ear caught wind of a demigod reading a nearby notice aloud.
“-and all demigods are to be confined only to the cities of New Rome and New Athens, and their respective camps…indefinitely.”
Suddenly Annabeth felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her, and the daughter of Athena wasted no time in closing the distance between her and the speaking demigod in a few long strides. “What did you just say?” Perhaps she could have phrased the question more delicately or politely, but when people were talking of demigods being quarantined, those were luxuries that only wasted potentially precious time. Reading the pristine decree for herself, her eyes flashing over the page as if the words might disappear before she could finish them, Annabeth’s reactions came fast and hot. Before she could stop herself, a few words slipped out.
“A monetary reward? Like we’re lost dogs or something?” Her words were bristling, but they hid the niggling fear that had begun to take hold in the pit of her stomach. It sounded as if in the eyes of the President, they were all criminals now. How was it fair that this be the public’s reaction to the knowledge of demigods when all they had been doing was saving the world? As a crowd began to gather around the decree, they murmured with concern, and she reached the flowing script that the demigod had been reading earlier about being unable to leave demigod areas. Promptly, the heavy feeling in her gut plummeted lower. They couldn’t leave? But— her dad, Sally, Percy’s little sister— they were just…cut off? As if she hadn’t lost enough people in her life, as if the gods needed to take even more people away from her. Her heart rate began to pick up speed, and Annabeth recognized the telltale signs of the anxiety that would often settle in her chest whenever things didn’t go according to plan, signs that often came on faster and more intense ever since she’d escaped Tartarus.
Taking a deep breath, she made herself slow down for a moment, doing mental mathematics that most likely wouldn’t be able to be done in the head of an average person. The consistency and familiarity of numbers calmed her though, and she began to don a familiar armor as it became apparent that the crowd of demigods around her were becoming rowdy, left confused and scared by the sudden news. It was the armor of someone who had been in front of a panicked crowd before, an armor that she had been familiar with since nearly age eleven. She had done it time and time again, and she would do it again now. As the crowd’s eyes began to look to her, that too was something she had become accustomed to. After having a hand in saving the world not once, but twice, it was something both she and Percy often dealt with. People expected them to know things, to be able to fix things. The last of her armor slipped into place as her slate grey eyes became hard and determined, and she prepared to do what she did best. Pretend like everything was going to be okay. Pretend like she already had a plan that would fix everything.
Preparing to say something, Annabeth was cut off when a rather young voice called out over the crowd, painted with fear. “But what about my mom?!” Trying to find the source of the voice, her eyes fell unto a demigod that couldn’t be more than ten, already arrived for the summer. Her young face contorted with the effort not to cry as she spoke once more. “And my sister? She’s still at home!”
Parting through the crowd, Annabeth made her way to the young girl, doing her best not to give off her usual aura that tended to intimidate those around her. Reaching the unnamed demigoddess, she place a calming hand on the worried girl’s shoulder, making sure her words sounded confident and reassuring. “They’ll be okay. We’ll figure this out.” Then Annabeth turned to face the rest of the crowd, her armor still firmly in place. “We’re all going to be okay.” She only wished that the words could calm herself as well, the familiar feeling of worry still gnawing at her chest. She wondered if— in years to come, when they were all huddled around the table and asking where one another had been when the Recall had been made…would they go on to ask whether or not she, Annabeth Chase, had been afraid? And would she be honest enough to tell the truth? She’d been just as frightened as the little girl who she had calmed.

Meet Dominique Purdy, writer and star of the fiercely comedic dark satire, Driving While Black.
With February being Black History Month – honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history – we caught up with Driving While Black star and writer Dominique Purdy for a chat on acting, the film, the experience of people of color in dealing with the police, what births the "fuck the police" attitude in youth, what we can do about it as individuals and much more.
Driving While Black is a fierce, truly Kafkaesque satire that everyone should see. It is based on real experiences Purdy has had with the police from his teenage years to today and is ever so relevant in an era where deadly experiences with police and people of color seem to be happening with increasing regularity since Michael Brown and Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. The whole thing is Kafkaesque when often the people being singled out and harassed by the police as bureaucratic enforcers, are targeted for no other reason than their race.
We should all be upset when that kind of treatment occurs, no matter the color. Yet, police harassment can and does happen to more and more people precisely because of over-policing as a result of the Drug War and the cops being weaponized when they are in the role of collecting revenue for the state for non-crimes like not wearing your seat-belt or in the abuses of civil asset forfeiture; to even the police shooting the wrong people when executing a no-knock search warrant on the wrong house entirely. Even pets are often not immune with some officers executing dogs with impunity – there's even a national database tracking these "puppycide" numbers.
All those things are directly attributable to over-policing. When you make nonsense things – like not wearing a seat-belt or possessing a little pot – crimes you still create real criminals. The way those "criminals" are handled is always harassing, and far too often that harassment is based purely on the race of the "suspect". This is a problem we should all be worried about and doing what we can to stop.
In Driving While Black, Dmitri (Purdy) is a pizza guy who would rather smoke weed and suffer for his art, but his mom and his girl won't stop nagging him to get a real job. When he's offered a gig mouthing off to tourists behind the wheel of a Hollywood "star tour" bus, it looks like everyone might get what they want. Trouble is, our man can't seem to step out the door to get to the interview without endless complications: busted radiators, simple weed scores gone sideways and LAPD cruisers seemingly everywhere. Dmitri's skill at going unnoticed by cops is honed by painful experiences growing up black in L.A., but even his keen survival instincts won't save him from the week from hell.
Dominique Purdy in the behind the scenes shot from DRIVING WHILE BLACK.
With a jovial swagger to its walking pace, Driving While Black is half comedy of errors and half hard-bitten realism, tucked into a sly treatise on 21st-century over-policing. Enjoy the interview below and catch Driving While Black on digital now.
Hello Dominique and welcome to The 405! To start things off, what initially inspired the film? DWB is so timely not just from (sadly) what is happening in society but also in film with movies like Green Book and BlacKkKlansman. Seeing especially the racism and discrimination in Green Book paired with the racism in Driving While Black made me wonder, have we really come that far from 1962?
The inspiration for Driving While Black came from just that "Driving While Black " It's my experiences growing up dealing with the cops in LA since being a kid up to the present time. Police prejudice against black people and other people of color is always gonna be a timeless topic in the culture!
A sad thing indeed.
This movie was shot in 2014 and first premiered at the El Rey Theater on Wilshire Blvd. [Los Angeles] on June 30th 2015 to a packed house. We had to turn people away to not violate the fire code on capacity.
Great you had that kind of turnout.
I believe we sparked a wave with DWB in this era of Hollywood wanting to invest in more black stories on film and TV. Look at some of the most popular movies and show since 2016: Insecure, Atlanta, Random Acts of Flyness, Get Out etc.
From DRIVING WHILE BLACK.
We definitely have made a lot of progress since 1962 . Niggas couldn't even eat at the same restaurants as white people without gettin' sprayed with a hose or the Ku Klux Klan burning a crucifix in front of their house later that night.  Racists never went away – just got quieter because it became less cool to be so blatant. Is there whole lot of progress to be made? You damn right!!!
I'd add in a movie that DWB kind of reminded me of: Boots Riley's incredible satire Sorry to Bother You. Of course, DWB didn't go full-on surrealist like Riley's movie but I see them as both very satirical.
The rest is true too. I suppose it can be just hard at times to be hopeful in the current cultural climate. What did your collective process look like on writing the film with Paul [Sapiano]?
I've known Paul for a cool minute so when we would kick it I would always be telling him some shit that happened to me with the cops. Even though it was wild shit, I'm so used to it I can see the humor in it of how ridiculous it is that black people have to have these feelings and take certain precautions when dealing with the police. So we would start writing some of these stories down to start forming what would become the film.
DWB was a fiercely satirical and darkly comedic piece (in a sort of neo-Kafkaesque absurd way) that is sadly far too true to life. Dominique, what would you like our readers to know who don't have to go through these kinds of harassing experiences on a daily basis? Not just while driving but I'm sure while doing other everyday things too. As I am not a person of color, I can't really speak to it, but I can do my best to listen and learn.
For people who haven't really  experienced any police drama in their lifetime and want to just get an understanding of it from the perspective of a young black male watch the film it shows you with humor better than I can explain. I've had elderly white people come up to me after seeing the film during a film festival saying when they saw this police issue we deal with through a new set of eyes. It changed how they thought about situations they had previously saw only from the cops side.
From DRIVING WHILE BLACK.
That's fantastic that people have been touched like that and I can certainly see why, having watched the film. What can people who don't have to go through these kinds of experiences do to help those who do and help make the social climate better?
Watch DWB and spread the word.
What do you think can be done on a community level to fight the kind of discrimination the film shows?
I don't know the answer but everyone becoming more aware of what's going on. Meaning ALL people not just people of color. We ALL have to understand the history to be able to create change.
So true. I think steps like having mandatory body cams and citizens' review boards to oversee them may be good first steps too. But certainly everybody has to pitch in on this. Any funny or memorable moments that stick out from the process of filming?
When we were in the editing process for the film, I was coming in to the office to do some voice overs one day. The whole area was surrounded by cops. I guess they were searching for someone.
Oh shit.
I called the office and said "Yoooo the whole area is crawlin' with police how can I get through to the office?"
Someone said I could cut through the alley and it would let out right by the office. I drive in this alley and as soon as I come out the other side more cops are right there…
Damn.
…they pull out guns and ask to search the car. They thought I might be hiding the person they were looking for in the backside. Cops were like "What are you doing over here?"
I said "Yo, I'm actually going to this right here. I'm working on a movie about y'all".
Then I hopped on the phone and called Paul to come outside and vouch for me. One cop was a straight asshole claiming I fit the description on the suspect they were looking for. The other cop was chill apologizing for the hostility.
Wow. Good cop/bad cop quite literally.
When Paul came out they realized I was telling the truth and let me go. When I went inside the office, there was another actor in the film – a black guy – who was like " How come the cops didn't harass me like you? They just let me right in…"
He was offended that they didn't harass him at all. I was like "You a clean cut nigga! I got too much of that hip hop vibe they had to fuck with me&".
Damn. Glad it didn't get much beyond that. Still sucks you were hassled though. What do you hope audiences will ultimately take with them from the film?
I'd like for black people and other people  of color to be happy seeing a story being told focused on something we deal with in society from a fresh perspective that they relate to. There has never been a film like this.
From DRIVING WHILE BLACK.
Absolutely agreed. It was refreshing, brave, and very funny. And I'm a white guy.
I'd like for white people and others who have never had experience any kind of police prejudice to leave understanding the psychology of how the FUCK THE POLICE attitude is born in a black child and how it grows. Through humor we can make people laugh and then think deeply at the same time. The uneasy feeling I get when I see the police never is going to go away but that's just life for a lot of black people... ain't that a bitch?
It sucks. Not to say others (particularly white people) who go through shitty experiences with the cops have similar experiences to people of color here, but I often wonder why more people aren’t instinctively worried when they get pulled over – especially when you see increased enforcement of more BS “non-crimes” like seat-belt laws. But I've also had my share of bad experiences there too like the cop who grew increasingly agitated because of my hands after he pulled me over. I have a hand tremor similar to Parkinson's and I tried explaining that but he didn't care, made me do the field sobriety test because of it in fact. So absolutely those shitty experiences are universal. But, I digress there…
A question I ask everybody: what makes a great film?
A great idea and unique execution of that idea makes a great film. Don't try to be like anyone. Take risks. Trust your instincts and keep them parallel with your vision.
Very well said. And all marks that DWB absolutely hit.
And another question I ask everybody: what films and performances have really stuck with you over the years and influenced you as an artist? A big question as well I know.
Shit, that's a tough one because my influences are all over the place. So let's do off top of my head…
Definitely.
…the Japanese Samurai Saga film Lone Wolf with Child and Ice Cube's Friday.
Cool. Final question, what is next for you?
I've got a lot of fly music shit coming this year! Catch me on the gram under my moniker: @KTOWNODD.

Hiveswap Episode 1 Reaction Part 11: Livin’ the good life in the living room (living room exploration part 3)
Welp, the past 3 evenings have been really full, so regrettably we couldn't continue playing.
I'm feeling already pretty tired right now, and it's 9:30 PM, but whatever, it's time to make some progress here!
Right, we just finished in the left part of the living room, with the front door and the bear and deer and such. It's time to examine the piano now.
"Play a haunting melody" :D!!!!!! Homestuck reference secured.
I mean... I HIGHLY doubt she actually will, considering how the piano is filled with all those toys and so probably doesn't work anymore, but nonetheless I love the shout-out.
Ahahaha, yup, a very meta reference to Homestuck about setting the mood with an eerie melody. (Conveniently, the game IS already providing us with a haunting melody in the background :P)
Wait.
Is she suggesting the piano still WORKS despite all those plushes in there?
Heh, but Joey doesn't know how to play the piano. Then who does? Did Ms. Claire know how to play the piano? Does Jude?
Pogs && Piano ==> Pfff, a pog piano. The worst hell imaginable. :P
Cherub Key && Piano ==> Oh??? Another mystery to add to the Cherub Key mystery pile!
Well that's weird... I wonder what kind of music she hears then? Are we going to hear that particular music once she activates the portals, perhaps? Now you've got me really curious.
Also... I wonder if Dammek has a similar (as in, possibly exactly the same) key and has similar weird experiences with it prior to the events of Hiveswap/Hauntswitch, and if he considers it a heirloom from his Ancestor or something.
Tap shoes && Piano ==> WELP. Insert 'you tried' here.
Alright, good thing we can't examine that messed up stuffed wolf. :P
Well then, uh, let's examine the picture on the wall with Grandpa on it...
Pffff, that drawing of Grandpa's face is hilarious.
Also, that's a pretty interesting frame around the picture. Those shapes on the sides are pretty weird. They almost look like... faces? Like, they vaguely remind me of the Hero of Rage symbol.
I love how her comment on examining the picture is so sad and hilarious at the same time.
Oh Joey, so you'll be teaching animal rights and dancing class at college then? :P
Okay so, if we go more to the right we're heading into a new part of the room. Let's first see if there's anything more on the left?
...Okay no, then we just go back to the side of the room we were initially on when we came down the stairs, so there's nothing new there.
Alright then, let's see what's on the right side of this living room!
...
BLUE LADIES. Oh dear god, looks like this is the place where Grandpa's giving them their time to shine. LITERALLY what with that blue lady lamp. xD
Heh, that portrait just behind the lamp resembles the one that we saw Jade examine in Homestuck, probably as a deliberate reference?
...
Is that the fucking walrus from Alice in Wonderland hanging on the wall as a trophy? Oh dear god, now I've seen everything.
I guess it was a matter of time before Alice in Wonderland references made their way into Hiveswap just like they did with Homestuck. :P
Every lady looks really nice when looking that blue? I'm sure Nannasprite will appreciate the compliment ;)
Also yes, let's all imagine that the woman who was the model for this lamp actually wore a lamp cap on her head. Thank you for giving me that mental image, Joey. xD
Pfffff, one of the monsters is walking around outside, in a ridiculously silly way. Looks like we can't examine these doors to the garden though.
Alright, looks we've reached the furthest right part of the room, but we can press downward to look at the living room in yet another angle! Let's see what that is (I wouldn't be surprised if it's basically the same view as when we first got down the stairs, but now much more zoomed in on what was first the background of the room)
...Yup, that's exactly it!
N'aww, those handprints/pawprints on the door look like they're Joey's and Tesseract's, probably made by them while playing at some point.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot there was another blue lady lamp in this room. At least this one has a head. :P
D'aww, looks like Joey's got her own little clinic there.
...The face of that lion in the picture on the wall is really, really weird. Kind of reminds me of a Karkat face, actually. xD
Interestingly, that pony doll has multiple colours of manes.
Let's examine that bookcase from up close...
"That was three years ago" THREE YEARS?! (sorry, couldn't resist)
...Eesh. They never got around to cleaning up those books. I guess it doesn't help that Joey isn't much of a reader anyway, and maybe Jude isn't either? And it looks like Mom never got around to cleaning it up either.
Pogs && Bookcase ==> ...What the hell is slam sesh even?
*looks it up*
...Well that doesn't clear much up. xD The only somewhat reasonable thing I can find is "slam party", but that's clearly not what Joey's talking about here, hahaha.
Pet treats && Bookcase ==> Bad dog, worst mess. :P
Ballet slippers && Bookcase ==> Yes thank you for giving me the mental image of Joey making a *insert what the proper ballet word is for a stylish jump* over those books.
I wonder what's behind those doors, where that plastic tube leads that goes all the way from Jude's room to here?? plainWonder's guess that it is the kitchen makes sense.
Let's wait a bit before entering the door, but let's already try out the item combinations on it.
...Well, that doesn't work. xD
Okay, moving on then.
Batteries && Blue lady lamp ==> "It clearly has a power cord." Umm... does it? 'cause I don't see it. xD
I guess it's probably hidden behind that blanket somewhere?
Oh my god, what even are all those other item combinations. I feel like they had a field day writing the bits of narration for this one. :P
Ahahahaha, yes, imagine that the lion painting was made while Grandpa was being attacked by a wild lion.
"Teddybear Outpatient Clinic" Brilliant. And also adorable. :3
Also, a quick Google search seems to suggest "Arsala Teddybear" is not based on someone real (I mean, I highly doubt it's supposed to reference a dietician), but who knows. At this point, nothing would surprise me anymore. :mspa:
Interestingly, we can examine the clinic both when having zoomed in on the lion painting and when zoomed out.
...Huh, but we can't use any items on the clinic either way. Welp.
Oh boy... time to examine that winged bear clock monstrosity. xD
Interestingly, that clock reminds me of Doc Scratch's clock. This one probably doesn't have any magical properties related to God Tiers though. :P
plainWonder just pointed out to me that the clock reads 11:11! Those brilliant bastards.
That doesn't seem to the correct time though, considering that the sun is still setting outside and it's autumn it doesn't make sense that it's 11:11 PM.
On one hand that would make me think the clock's broken, but that pendulum is still ticking. Maybe it's just the hands of the clock that are broken?
Or the artist who made this decided to make a cool reference instead of paying attention to what time it's supposed to be in the game (or maybe it wasn't even decided yet at that point). :P
...Pff, okay Joey has surprisingly little to say about the weird clock. Let's see what the item combinations provide us with...
Pogs && Bear clock ==> Joey just really likes doing bear puns, doesn't she? xD
Pet treats && Bear clock ==> Oh jeez, I hadn't even realized the clock was actually IN the bear, not outside it. That is... disturbing.
Cherub Key && Bear clock ==> Oh!!! That seems like it might be referencing Doc Scratch's clock. That, and Caliborn's connection to Time in general, is the only link I can think of between this key and clockwork.
Hahaha, they were all really short comments about the clock though.
Oh yeah, some more African masks in the corner, just like the one that was hanging beneath the stairs!
Cherub Key && African masks ==> Ahahaha, this seems to be a subtle stab to all the eye injuries in Homestuck. Surprisingly, nobody got a key jammed into their eyes. :P
Ballet slippers && African masks ==> Oooh, I didn't know there was an actual difference between masques and masks! I just looked it up, that's pretty interesting that "masques" is used more in the context of the dancing/theatre world.
Heh! That blue lady portrait next to the door was hidden pretty sneakily, we almost would have missed that it was clickable what with it being off-screen for the most part!
Looks like there's some African arrows in that plant, haha.
Huh, that's weird. We can use items here after zooming in!!! That's strange, that probably means there's a particular item we can use here??? I wonder what that is.
....WOW. So the blue ladies are based on ACTUAL people that Ms. Claire knew??? I DEFINITELY didn't expect that, I always thought Jade's interpretation was correct that they were simply normal portraits that had been bleached by being out in the sun too long and that Grandpa only bought them afterwards.
Or maybe he did both of those things???
The fact that Joey seems to know some of Ms. Claire's friends makes it especially sad that nobody took her and Jude in after Ms. Claire died.
....
The plot thickens, none of the item combinations on the blue lady portrait DO anything! That's especially weird, considering how this item menu normally doesn't appear on zoom-ins.
Let's end it on that kind of mysterious note, and call it a day! It's 10:45 PM here already and goshdarnit I am tired.
Next time it's time to enter a new room!
plainWonder and I were discussing what the rooms behind those two doors could be, and I first thought of the kitchen and the basement, but he's got a good point there's also still the trophy room somewhere.
Maybe behind the giant doors there's the trophy room and behind the smaller door there's the kitchen, in which there's a door to the basement?
Makes sense to me!
And we'll probably find out next time we play. :D
