You stepped into the SVU squad room, looking around at the major bustling and chaos of the room. You fidgeted with the hem of your shirt anxiously, biting your lips and nails as well. You were frozen. You couldn’t process it all. Your eyes then landed on a person who you knew could help.
Casey.
Casey had been the one to call you. She hadn’t told you much, only that you need to come to svu immediately. You had dropped work for this. Left straightaway. It all made you extremely anxious. Why would they need you…? Unless…
You shook the terrible thoughts coming up out of your mind, instead springing into action. You walked up to Casey in the middle of the chaos.
“Hey Case!” You called to the redhead who was swiftly fluttering through pages.
Casey jumped at her name and her eyes shot up to you. Suddenly her gaze softened and she looked at you with concern.
“Y/N’s here!!” Casey shot across the room, and everyone practically stopped in their tracks and looked at you.
You gulped and looked around anxiously, pulling your bag closer to you defensively.
“Case… what’s going on…?” You stammered.
Casey couldn’t meet your gaze. Olivia suddenly came out of the Captain’s office and walked through the squad room, followed by Cragen peeking out of his office, telling everyone to get back to work. The shuffling and bustling immediately picked back up again. The noise wasn’t helping you one bit.
You suddenly felt a hand on your back shoulder, and you jumped slightly. You turned around, relaxing a bit to see it was only Olivia with a warm and caring smile.
“Y/N, let’s go into Cragen’s office, yeah…?” The brunette gently suggested.
After you slowly nodded with parted lips of confusion, Olivia led you by her hand on your back to the Captain’s office. She opened the door for you and closed it behind the two of you. Both SVU members looked tense and concerned.
“What exactly… is going on…?” You tensed out through partially gritted teeth, frustration now hitting you in waves.
Olivia guided you to sit down with her, before she but her lip and explained,
“Y/N… Alex didn’t show up for court a couple of hours ago… We… don’t know where she is. She’s not answering her phone, we can’t track it, it’s dead.”
Your heart sunk. And there was now a limp in your throat. Your heart only raced faster and you suddenly felt dizzy.
Olivia could tell that this was a lot to take in, so she gently held you on both sides of your arms.
“That’s not all…” Cragen sighed.
You looked up at the Captain with glossy eyes and a trembling lip.
“W-what…?” You stammered, bringing your arms into your chest and holding yourself.
“We think Alex was… taken.” He explained slowly.
“W-why would you think that…??” You exclaimed, the anger in you now swelling.
Cragen and Olive exchanged looks. Cragen nodded and relented into the brunettes insistence.
“Come on, let me show you something.” Olivia softly spoke.
She led you outside to the squad room and the media corner. Next to all the screens there was a board. A board of at least 100 photographs. And they were all of Alex. Alex and all the people she interacted with. You were on there, and so was Olivia, and Casey, and Rita, and Liz, and Amanda, and so on.
The pictures were practically Alex’s entire life since she’d been with you. This was years of photos. Some of them looked like they could have been snapped by a news reporter outside the courts. But others, much more intimate pictures of the two of you, could have only been captured by active camera surveillance.
You gasped, bringing your hand to your mouth, as you let out a choked sob that you couldn’t contain anymore. Your stomache sunk. You proceeded to collapse on the floor, and were lucky that Amanda was right by you. The Southern blonde was quick to scoop you up and guide you to take a seat in her desk chair.
She then tried to talk to you, but your mind was spiraling. Suddenly a big boom of stacks of paperwork falling across the squad room brought you back to reality with a jolt.
“Y/N? Y/N, there you are, ‘hun. Hey. Heyyy. It’s going to be okay, alright…?” Amanda reassured you.
“But h-how… do you know that…?” You choked out, the tears continuing to pour out.
At that, Amari and Fin walked into the squad room.
“It’s out lucky day! Perp’s blood was at the scene, that girl put up a fight…!” Amara exclaimed, not having realized that you were there.
You immediately stood up and turned to face Amaro. Nick’s eyes went wide and his face struggled to give away the fact that he knew he had fucked up.
“What scene? What…?? What happened??” You exclaimed with a gasp, frustration and anger running through your veins once more.
Amanda pulled you towards her and into her embrace. Her touch calmed you a little, but right now, you really needed it to be Alex’s touch. After a minute, her hug actually and surprisingly helped.
“Thanks…” you muttered.
Amanda shrugged and smiled lightly, as if it was nothing.
“Learned that in Atlanta, had a partner who had anxiety attacks.” The blonde told you, “It’s a grounding thing.”
You listened and nodded along. But your mind quickly started to wander back to Alex again.
“Wait what scene? Do you know where she was taken…??” You asked.
Amanda sighed and stood up, telling you to wait here. She checked in with Cragen in his office, before coming back to you and grabbing her keys.
“Come on, let’s go for a ride.” Amanda told you, indicating for you to follow her.
You gulped and nodded, silently following the Southern blonde with your wobbly legs. You two got into her patrol car, and she began driving. The ride was silent. You had now become numb, your feelings too much to bear. You didn’t want to go down the rabbit hole of what could go wrong… So you stayed in the ignorance of feeling numb.
After about 15-20 minutes, Amanda pulled up to you and Alex’s shared brownstone. You gulped as your eyes widened as it began to click for you.
“This is…” you stammered, trying to find the words.
“Come on, Darling. I’ll explain inside.” Amanda gently reassured you, squeezing your left hand caringly, before getting out of the car.
You followed the blonde detective up the steps of your brownstone and inside. No one was here anymore. But it was a mess, all taped up with crime scene tape and marked with evidence markers and such. It made your stomache flip upside down when you saw blood on the kitchen doorway.
“What Amaro said, that asshole… was that Alex didn’t go down without a fight…” Amanda explained, taking your hand in reassurance as you walked through the torn apart apartment.
“Alex managed to make her kidnapper bleed.” Amanda breathed out.
At that you looked at the woman with wide eyes.
“So you can find out who they are?” You immediately asked.
Amanda bit her inner cheek and looked way slightly.
“Yeaaa ideally yes… but we already ran it, and he’s not in the system…” she explained.
Any and all hope that you had just gained was lost all over again. Amanda squeezed your hand again in reassurance.
“So what’s next…? What can I do?” You asked, desperate to do anything, to get her back, to see her again.
“First, we are going to walk through your place and go through the events, at least what we know. See if any of it jogs your memory of like someone who would want to harm Alex…” Amanda breathed out.
You shuttered and nodded slowly.
“Then when Olivia and Cragen give the go ahead, I’ll take you back to svu and Olivia will properly interview you…”
You gulped, yet nodded again.
“Ok, let’s do it…” you breathed out.
Amanda nodded and guided you by your hand, walking you through the scene. All your feelings came crashing back as the blonde detective walked you through the theory SVU had of what happened.
Alex hadn’t even left for the office yet, having not needed to go in as early that day… You and already left for work, when someone had come to the door. Alex must have known the person, because she let them in (or they had a gun). The main struggle was in the kitchen. SVU assumed that Alex had most likely tried to reason with whomever the perp was, but it went south in the kitchen. Alex’s blood was on the counter, in a circular mark that upheld that the assailant had violently cracked Alex’s head down upon the counter. There were also blood splatters of Alex’s going from the kitchen and out the door, by the amount and pattern of the blood, it was assumed that the assailant had shot Alex somewhere in the leg, but hadn’t hit a major artery or vein. Luckily, on the kitchen doorway, there was Alex’s bloody partial print, but there blood wasn’t hers. The theory was that before the shooter had incapacitated her, she got a swing or two in, and then when he dragged her out, she made one last attempt to grasp the doorway, leaving the perps blood.
Your heart was pounding in your ears three times as fast as earlier. Tears were pouring down your face and you hadn’t even realized it. Amanda squeezed your hand tighter, as she asked you if it sounded like someone you knew or if it triggered any memories.
“N-no… Mm sorry…” you gasped out in between sobs.
The Southern blonde now came in front of you and took both of your hands.
“Don’t be, you did so good, Y/N.” Amanda comforted you, before receiving a ding on her phone and checking her notifications.
It was Olivia telling Amanda to bring you back. You spent the car ride opposite of the last, filled with all the emotions. You were distraught, and sad, and afraid, and angry, and infuriated, and so much more. Your head was swimming, no drowning it it all. You just wanted a break. You wanted Alex safe in your arms.
Amanda led you back into the squad room, passing you off to Olivia with a reassuring smile. Olivia took you into the family interview room, one that was less jarring than the brick and mortar perp interview/confession rooms. She had you sit on the couch next to her.
“Y/N, Amanda told me that you couldn’t think of anything at the crime scene…”
“Don’t… call it that…” you sputtered, having cried yourself out in the car and now hicupping instead.
Olivia sighed, “Of course, I’m sorry— At your and Alex’s home…”
You had your hands clasped in your lap and you were rocking back and forth anxiously. The brunette detective reached for your hands with her hands and tried to physically comfort you, but you jerked in response, starting to hyperventilate. The brunette detective was quick to retract and stick with her interview questions.
“Besides what you didn’t think of at the crim— your and Alex’s place— Can you think of anyone who would want to hurt you…?” Olivia prodded gently.
You shook your head and then hiccuped. Alex had her hair share of criminals who didn’t like her, but nothing she ever found concerning enough to share with you.
“Alright, what about anyone following you recently…? Notice any reoccurring faces…?” She asked.
You thought about it, going through your last months, if not years in your mind.
“I… don’t think so, no…” you stammered, with two more hiccups.
“Alright… Can I get you some water?”
“Yes please…” you whispered, not being able to handle the eye contact, so you simply shut your eyes.
Olivia muttered something with a hum, letting go of your hands, and leaving the room with the door ajar. You just sat there, with your eyes closed and shaking in your boots. You could hear the noisy clamor of the squad room from the ajar door. It was still just as chaotic, if not more. Tensions were high, and fuses were short.
Before Olivia could come back with your water, a familiar voice boomed while entering the squad room.
“Who the hell didn’t inform me about Alex going missing, and why the fuck did I need to find out like this?!”
You immediately stood up with a jolt, scrambling into the squad room to see Rita standing furiously in the middle of the room, while holding up a manila envelope with her name on it. Calhoun’s determined scowl faltered as she noticed you in the corner. She immediately lowered her mask of defense lawyer and rushed over to you.
Her hands were all of over you, checking to see if you were okay. They landed on each side of your face, as her concerned gaze looked at you.
“Hey Baby… How are you holding up…?” She asked, her eyes still scanning you up and down, before landing on your gaze when she expected an answer.
But all she got was a choked sob from you, your tears now back in full swing. The older woman immediately pulled you in for a hug, which you happily accepted. She hugged you tight and with fierce love, you could feel every fiber of her being that cared through the embrace. When Rita let you go, you wheezed and little and whipped your tears away.
Olivia had by now gotten your water and caught wind of the commotion, now coming up to you and Rita. Rita sent daggers to the brunette detective, making Olivia stop a couple feet away from you.
“What’s in the envelope…?” Olivia quipped, before extending her hand with your water in it.
Rita took the water, examined it, then gave it to you, instructing you to drink, before she considered answering Olivia. When she did, her eyes went sad. The main SVU members had surrounded the two of you, all curious as to what Rita had brought. She opened the envelope and pulled out a hard drive.
“Aha! My area of expertise…!” Munch exclaimed, taking the hard drive from Rita and going over to the media corner to open whatever files were contained within the stick.
You went to follow the rest do the team to see what was on the file, but Rita grabbed you by your arm before you could get too far. You turned back to Rita and looked at the woman who had been your mentor, aunt, mom, practically everything with confusion and glossy eyes.
“ ‘Hun, you may not want to see that…” Rita sighed with deep sadness in her eyes.
She had already seen it.
Your eyes hardened and you frowned. You quickly pulled your hand out of Rita’s grasp.
“Like hell I won’t…” you exclaimed, then turning around and walking up behind the team who were all gathered around Munch who was about to click play on a video file.
Rita came up behind you, her eyes staying on you the entire time as the video played. She watched your face whiten, watched your face wash over in horror, then a wave of anger. She watched your shock, then followed by uncontrollable sadness and tears.
Alex was in the centre of the screen, tied up and hanging by her wrists around a rusty metal bar running along the wall. Her head was hanging low. Her hair frazzled and tired. Her clothing was dirty, torn, and bloody. There was a light sway of her body as it hung from the beam. Her shoes had been discarded. The bottom half of her her stomache was on display, as her shirt was being strained from the position. Her left lower leg was bleeding, presumably from the gunshot from the struggle at the brownstone. Her forehead was all bloody from the blow to the counter.
Suddenly, a person stepped into the frame. They were wearing all black and had their face and voice masked. He had some kind of black colored weapon, almost baton looking in his hand. He laughed wickedly into the camera, before turning his attention to Alex.
“As I can’t torture all of you, unfortunately… One will have to do…” The man tilted his head as he turned on the stick and plunged it against Alex’s exposed side stomache with a cackle.
Alex’s body convulsed and jolted uncontrollably as she was she was hit with volts and volts of burning electricity. She let out a desperate groan, which turned into a silent scream as tears poured down her face, as she fought against her restraints and against the volts. After a couple solid seconds of this, the man finally retracted the insane taser torture. As he moved the torture device back, Alex’s freshly burned skin could be seen, a fresh branded circle on the side of her stomache. The man proceeded to repeat this process for multiple rounds. And the whole time, Alex fought and screamed and convulsed, as tears ran down her face and shirt. Finally, after five burning rounds, Alex passed out. And the man stopped, looking to the camera with a grin.
“No point if the bitch isn’t awake…” He chuckled wickedly, “And that was only Act 1… Dedicated to Detective Olivia Benson…”
Rage was quick to take over your enter being, all the sadness quickly forgotten. You nearly assaulted Olivia right then and there. But Rita saw this coming, and she was quick to hold you back as you attempted to pounce on the brunette detective across from you.
You scowled and fought back, the team all taking a step back from you, all of them just as shocked as you were. But Rita held you firm.
“Shhhh, Baby, it’s okay… Calm down…” Rita cooed into the shell of your ear, “It’s going to be okay, it’s not Olivia’s fault…”
After a couple seconds, Rita managed to get you to promise to not punch the older brunette detective in the face. So she let you go. You huffed and didn’t know what to do. You were hit with another wave of sudden sadness.
As you were having your life crisis, the team began speculating and conversating about what they could learn from the video and how they could find Alex. You weren’t able to focus on them or anything anymore, everything started to just fade away into black.
When you woke up, you were in Rita’s lap, back in the family interview room. For a split second, you felt at peace’s and then reality smacked you back in the face. Rita was beginning to tell you that you had passed out when you began to freak out.
“Hey, Hey. It’s okay, sweetheart. You’re safe, it’s okay.” Rita comforted you, as you sat up startled and distraught.
“N-no it’s n-not… Alex my Lex she’s… she’s…” you choked out, hyperventilating.
Rita was quick to take you into her arms on the couch and comfort you. She ran her fingers through your hair, she rubbed your arms and hands and side, calming you as best as you could.
“Hey. We are going to find this sycko who did this… ok? The team is on it…” Rita insisted and ensured you, “Take some deep breaths for me, Baby…”
You nodded shakily, your entire body shaking in Rita’s arms, as you took some deep breaths. You began to doze off in the woman’s arms, Rita was quick to encourage you to not fight it. And so you dozed off…
You awoke startled once more by a shriek echoing through the squad room and into where you and Rita were. You practically fell off the couch and scrambled out to the squad. Rita was swift behind you. Your eyes fell on Casey, who now had a Manila envelope in her hand with her name on it.
“Where did you get that??” Olivia questioned the redhead.
“I… a junior officer dropped it off… I don’t know, sorry” Casey stammered, handing it off to Olivia who opened it.
“Fin, Amanda, go find that junior officer, maybe he can give us a lead on this guy.” Cragen told his team.
Fin and Amanda nodded and left the room at once. Olivia had found another hard drive, having passed it to Munch to analyze. Rita’s eyes widened as Munch went to press play, and she tried to pull you away once more, but you only pulled away from her and to the screen with more ferocity. With a click from Munch, the video began…
Alex was still in the same position. She was awake again. But barely. Drool was coming from the sides of her mouth as her head lolled down. Her breathing was heavy and labored, affecting her entire body as it hung from the rope attached to her wrists and around the beam.
The man then came back into the camera screen. He held a knife in his hand this time. After taunting the camera, he stalked up to Alex, his free hand roughly grabbing and wrenching her blouse open. The buttons clattered to the floor as the perp moved the torn blouse aside, showing off Alex’s black bra and exposed chest and stomache.
Alex seemed to barely register anything until the knife began slicing her chest. She let out a howl at the pain, deep enough to hurt, but not deep enough to kill. He continued these slices, along her stomache, along her clothed arms as well, and all the way up to her shoulders and neck. He seemed to only be egged on by Alex’s groans and cries, which very quickly turned into begging and pleading for him to stop. Once the man reached her neck, he held the knife firmly along her throat, before speaking. The dozens of cuts all bleed into one another, practically covering Alex’s entire upper body in blood.
“Act 2 is not as bad, because you just sucked at your job…” The man sneered, “But trust me, the next one… I’d be surprised if the bitch doesn’t die… Dedicated to Rita Calhoun.”
Your knees buckled and you collapsed on the floor as Alex let out a particular blood curteling scream in the video. Tears streamed down your face as you couldn’t bring yourself to watch the rest of the video, the audio already taunting you enough. You felt your body go limp and you began to slouch and fall from your knees to the ground completely.
“Turn it off! Off!!” Rita yelled enraged, before dropping to the ground with you and comforting you.
Munch turned the video off, but not before the man was able to dedicate the video to Rita. Rita’s eyes widened and her throat went dry. The whole team stared at the two of you. Rita was dumbfounded at what this had to do with her, but she was quick to spring into action over it.
“Novak. Take Y/N to the diner down the street. She probably hasn’t eaten all day.” Rita commanded the room.
Casey’s eyes widened, and she immediately nodded in understanding.
“Of course, Rita.” Casey said, hurriedly coming over to the two of you.
You tried to protest as Rita handed you over to Casey, but Rita was stern and quickly silenced you, not that you could say anything right now with how overwhelmed you were. Casey was quick to file you out of the room.
You didn’t even remember leaving SVU or getting to the diner, all you remember is suddenly sitting with Casey looking at the late lunch menu. You were shaking and fidgeting like crazy.
Casey reached her hand across the table and squeezed your balled up fist reassuringly. You looked up to the redhead with your stained and now completely dried out eyes, having cried it all out for the second time today.
“Hey. Let’s get you some food, huh…?” Casey hummed.
You nodded slowly. The waitress came, but you couldn’t hear a thing. Casey looked at you with care and understanding, ordering for the both of you. Then once the waitress had left, her attention was on you once more.
“C-Casey…?” You whispered.
Casey leaned in and softly spoke,
“Yes…?”
“How… how are you okay…?” You whispered, a single tear rolling down your cheek as you blinked, “She’s… she’s like your best friend and you hers…”
Casey sighed and squeezed your hand again.
“Y/N, look at me.” Casey hummed, her tone breaking in a falter.
You finally looked at Casey again, and took in her appearance. You suddenly noticed the tear stains on her face and how crazy her long, normally well curled hair was.
“I am not okay. I just… suck at showing my emotions…” Casey explained gently, her own eyes beginning to gloss over as she became more vulnerable.
Your lips pressed together and you smiled lightly, nodding in understanding. You gasped slightly as you felt your phone vibrate once in your pocket. You then felt another vibration. Then one last final third vibrating. You pulled your hands into your lap, away from Casey. The redhead looked at you concerningly.
“Everything okay…?” Casey asked.
“Mm yea… just… need the restroom…” you muttered, before getting out of the diner booth and going to the back where the bathroom was.
Casey nodded, watching you leave, before getting on her phone and updating the team, as well as getting updated by what they had figured out. She let the team know that you were doing okay and that she was about to feed you. She sighed and let out a light groan, trying to process the weight of what was happening, while reading the update from the group chat.
Munch had analyzed the background of the video, having figured out that Alex was being kept in some warehouse. Which one, they had no clue.
Fin and Amanda had gotten no leads from the junior officer, apparently the envelope had been given to him by a homeless looking guy who disappeared as soon as he dropped off the package at the precinct.
Rita, Olivia, and Nick had been spending their time looking over old case files and anything that connected Olivia and Rita along with possibly Alex, in hope to find a perp or bad guy who got away somehow and wanted revenge.
When Casey was done being caught up, the food had come. But you were still in the bathroom… The redhead grew suspicious, getting up from the table and walking to the back of the diner to the bathroom. She knocked on the door, but received no answer. Quickly, she tried your cell. Straight to voicemail.
~~
As you stepped into the bathroom, you couldn’t shake the terrible feeling about the texts, so you locked the door and immediately opened your phone. The texts were all from one unknown number.
Y/N L/N.
Then a video link.
Act 3. Elizabeth Donnelly
You didn’t even click or see the video. Not yet. You saw Liz’s name and couldn’t think of anything else. Liz would know what to do. She always knew what to do.
You carefully escaped from Casey’s gaze and hold out of the back of the diner, rushing to catch a cab to the DA’s office where Liz would most likely be. The ride wasn’t too long, but you still couldn’t bring yourself to press play on that video. Liz would know what to do. She always did.
Once your reached Liz’s office, you didn’t even knock, simply barging in. Liz was talking with a few DA’s, and she was about to dig into whoever interrupted them, but then she saw your state.
“Leave. All of you, now!” Liz ordered, shooing the attorneys away.
You quickly shut and locked the door behind you. Liz looked you up and down.
“Y/N, what is going on…?” The older woman spoke firmly.
You were hyperventilating again. You could sit, you were pacing. But you had to tell her something. And you tried, but you couldn’t bring yourself to explain. Liz stood up, recognizing the signs of an anxiety attack, and coming over to you in concern. She guided you to sit with her on her office couch, asking you again, more softly this time,
“Honey, what’s the matter…?”
You let out a choked sob, bringing out your phone and clicking the video. That was the only thing you could think of. Liz watched your every movement. You pressed play.
Alex was hanging as in the last video, but her blouse was completely gone. Her breathing was shallow and barely there, but she was still alive.
The man showed back up, coming up to the camera to say hello, before quickly turning his attention to Alex once more with the same knife as before in his hands. He grabbed Alex’s chin and pulled her face to meet his gaze. Alex tried to growl and fight back, but the exhaustion on her face was evident. He had probably drugged her up real good so that she didn’t stand a chance… While the man held her face rough with one hand, his other with the knife sliced her bra into pieces. He then let her face go with a smack! before tearing the bra off her body. The vulnerable whimper that Alex let out was distinct. And it only fed into the man’s fantasies. He then bent down to her bottom half and ran the knife down her side, followed by his hands ripping her skirt open. He wrenched that off her as well, throwing it aside. Alex was now left only in her panties. She closed her eyes and went limp, as the man trailed the knife in between her legs and up against her clothed core. He then moved to her thigh and ripped her underwear off with a snap! until she was fully nude, hanging for everyone to see. Another hopeless whimper left Alex as the man suddenly smacked her ass.
Before the video could finish, Liz slammed the phone down onto the ground, effectively pausing it. Your eyes went wide and you looked at the older woman with an open mouth. She looked horrified. But Rage was quick to replace the shock.
“What?! Liz wait—!!” You exclaimed as the blonde stood up and shook her white knuckle fists.
Liz turned back to you, looking you directly in the eyes.
“What in the actual fuck is going on, Y/N?!Why in the hell are you making me watch my daughter be tortured by some psycho???” Liz shrilled.
“Lower your voice!!” You harshly whispered, swiftly standing up and getting in her face, and effectively shutting Liz up for a second with how stern you and suddenly become.
“Then you better goddamn tell me what is going on…” Liz growled.
“OK—” you exclaimed, placing your hand on your forehead and sighing.
You say down again as the overwhelming sadness hit you once more.
“Lex… was taken… didn’t show up in court…” you stammered, “Guy’s been sending… videos…” you choked up.
Liz then picked up the phone from the floor, sitting back down next to you in silence for a moment.
“How many?”
You were jolted out of your grief by her words.
“W-what…?” You stammered.
“How many videos… did he send…?” Liz spoke, trying to sound in control but her own tone faltering and cracking a little.
“This is the third. He usually talks about it in the video…” you said quietly.
This made Liz look at you and then back to the phone. She turned it on and clicked play again. You both sat in anticipation as the video continued.
Alex’s bloody, bruised, and now completely exposed body came back on screen, right where it had left off. Alex flinched as the man smacked her ass a second time.
“Shut up Bitch!! Take it, We all know you want it!!!” The man jeered, before smacking her ass a third time and then grabbing and fondling her tits.
Alex tried to pull away from his touch, she tried to yell or cry or shout, but she found that her body was not taking orders from her mind anymore. Her body had gone limp. But she could feel everything. She could see everything in her line of sight. She could hear everything.
When she went completely silent, unable to protest anymore, the man cackled again, louder and more taunting than ever. He then proceeded to come up to the camera.
“Now, I’m not gonna show you this next bit… I’m going to save that for when you find her dead body… But Act 3 is dedicated to that bitch judge, Elizabeth Donnelly…” the man jeered.
The video then went static for a second. Then the camera came back on and showed an unconscious Alex Cabot, swaying lightly back and forth. Where her body wasn’t sliced and cut, it was bruised. Where her body wasn’t bloody, it was covered in dirt, like it had been thrown at her. The faint and small outlines of cigarette burns were trailed across both of her arms and thighs. Her mouth was filled with an oozing her own blood, as if 100 fists had hit her. And her right tit was branded with a symbol, difficult to make out. All of this and so much worse would be discovered had been done to her…
The video ended and silence took the room. Suddenly you heard crying. You looked over and Liz was hunched over and crying in her lap. You weren’t sure what to do, haven’t ever seen the powerful, older woman so vulnerable before. You just instinctively wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close.
“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t… didn’t know what to do… I thought if I came to you…” you rambled, now feeling guilty for having brought this to Liz.
“Hush… none of that… ssnot your fault.” Liz breathed out in sniffles, accepting your embrace and pressing into you even more, “I know she’s not… my real daughter but if anything happens to her… I… I don’t know what I’d do…”
You two sobbed in each other’s arms for a while. It was only when someone came banging on Liz’s office door with no sudden warning that the two of you jumped apart and off the couch. You went to unlock the door and storming in came a furious Rita.
Rita wouldn’t even hear it from you. She took your phone immediately. All the way back to the squad room, the car was silent between the three of you.
Casey had figured out that you had run away, and she had immediately called SVU. They had divided and conquered all the places they thought you’d go. And the second Liz wasn’t answering her own phone, Casey knew that was where you had gone.
Back in the squad room, Munch began analyzing your phone. You sat in one of the detectives chairs, fidgeting and bouncing your leg, under Rita’s intense gaze. She had made you tell the team everything that had happened. She was not going to let you slip away again. Over her dead body.
Liz immediately threw a fit and started ordering people around. After looking at the files that Olivia and Amara had compiled, it took her five minutes to put it together. Liz found a perp who had escaped jail, whom Olivia had interrogated, Rita had represented and lost, She had judged, and Alex had prosecuted and won.
The second the team had their perp, they began canvassing possible areas. The man leased a piece of warehouse property near the river as it was discovered, so that’s where everyone rushed to go to.
Everyone was on edge.
“I’m gonna go!” You exclaimed to Rita.
“No you are not!!” She shrieked back.
“Why not?!! She’s the love of my life!!!” You yelled, tears running down your face as you screamed.
“Because she might be dead, Y/N!!!!”
Practically the entire squad room went silent at this. They all stared at you and Rita. But quickly, they all began their work again, and the team ran out to the location to find Alex. Both Rita and Liz held you back as you fought to get outside and in a squad car. But they held the upper hand. You collapsed in both of their arms, desperate and exhausted, completely out of energy.
~~
The team did indeed find Alex, although she was barely breathing. They immediately sent her to Mercy’s, where Rita and Liz already had you there waiting. You sat in the waiting room, in between the two woman, shaking and fidgeting restlessly.
Hours went by with no update. Eventually, it was all too much for you. You leaned against Rita’s shoulder for some comfort and before you could stop yourself, you were falling asleep.
~~
“Y/N, love, wake up…” Liz gently woke you, making you snort lightly as you came back to reality.
She was offering you a hand, which you eagerly took to stand up. The nurse came up to you.
“You may see her now. One at a time please.” The nurse told the group of you.
Everyone looked at you and pretty much all agreed in unison and with mere looks that you would be the person going in to see her first.
You entered the hospital room, and immediately came up to Alex’s bedside. You felt relief wash over you that she was here with you and that she was okay. You held one of her hands as she came to.
“Mmm heyyyy…” Alex said in an extremely scratchy and hoarse voice, her head turning slowly towards you.
Tears of joy began to spill out and down your cheeks. You squeezed your wife’s hand lovingly.
“Hi Lex…” you whispered, “How are you feeling…?”
“Like someone pumped an entire pharmacy through me…” Alex groaned lightly, “mm pretty sure I was drugged… most of the time I couldn’t move or speak…” her tone got sad and overwhelmed, as tears started to form on her sapphire eyes.
“Hey hey, it’s okay.” You comforted Alex, who met your gaze again, smiling at the sight of you, “You’re safe with me now, that’s all that matters…”
Alex lightly squeezed your hand now as she smiled. It would be a long road to recovery, but the important thing is that you would be with her every step of the way.
Her squeeze on your hand faded, which you just attributed to the blonde being tired. But then her eyes closed… and then you couldn’t hear her breathing. You jolted when the heart rate monitor started going off.
Suddenly, there were 4-5 hospital staff members in the room, pushing you aside. You stood in the corner of the room, with your hands over your mouth, silent tears flooding down your face. You heard the designated coding sound come from the machine, and you collapsed onto the floor. Everything went numb.
You could vaguely hear a nurse giving you her condolences. You didn’t even reliaze that you were walking out of the room until you stood in front of the group that loved Alex the most. You were violently shaking, you felt like you couldn’t breathe.
Liz was the first own to come up to you, to see what was wrong. And Liz was the first one to understand… You fell to your knees and cried into your hands, not caring anymore. You’d lost the love of your life, your wife, your everything.
Liz looked more emotional and out of control than she’d ever been. She kept stammering that it couldn’t be true, but once a doctor came out and told the entire group the news, Liz let out a distraught wail, covering her face in her hands as she sobbed. Casey immediately buried herself in Liz’s embrace which Liz of course accepted. The last thing you remember about that day was Rita coming up to you and embracing you on the floor…

Law & Order: SVU - How you met each other (Preferences)
Classification: Fluff
Pairing: Alex Cabot, Casey Novak, Liz Donnelly, Olivia Benson and Rita Calhoun
Warnings: None
Word count: +800
Alex Cabot
Tumblr media
- Anyone who looks at the ice queen so comfortable in New York urbanism can't imagine the ADA's origins. Anyone would picture her as a library rat as a child, wearing a pearl necklace and sitting at the table with tough-talking adults, which is partially right, but no one could imagine Alexandra Marie Cabot wearing denim overalls shooting cans with a slingshot, swimming naked in the lake, and creating a fort in the tree house. Enjoying what Texas provided for a child. You grew up with this version of her, spending summer vacation afternoons together on the Cabot farm, until she returned for good to New York at age fifteen and never came back.
Casey Novak
Tumblr media
- You knew her before she knew you, Casey's fame in softball extended to several departments, especially yours, narcotics, where you worked for months. The narcotics team hated her, she single-handedly took down their best players and you admire her for it, was beautiful to watch the redhead play, mesmerizing. At the end of the year SVU and Narcotics qualified for the finals, you used to just watch the games until Vizzini retired and left a gap in the team, filled by you, your co-workers pushed you until they convinced you to try even though had never played before. When the day came, you couldn't stand on the field for 10 minutes, Casey's determined eyes made you more nervous than you already were. The last thing you saw before passing out was the ADA bouncing a ball in your direction. And the first thing you see when wake up is Novak sitting in the armchair next to the hospital bed, a guilty expression on her face.
Liz Donnelly
Tumblr media
- Being an ADA is a great responsibility and burden, made even greater by being the half-sister of the brilliant and perfect Alex Cabot, your mother was married three times, she was born from the first marriage and nine years later you were born from a second union. Despite this, the two of you were raised close and she became your inspiration, which led you to study law and follow in your sister's footsteps by becoming an ADA, one of the youngest in SVU. And so you ended up in Liz Donnelly's office, formally introducing yourself after getting the competitive position, with your high grades, extracurricular activities and a recommendation from Alex. "I'm curious to work with Cabot's ward. Welcome, Y/L/N!"
Olivia Benson
Tumblr media
- Being a single mother is hard but Evelyn is a sweet and behaved child, making the process easier. You didn't expect that one drunken night would give you a little brown-eyed angel, the beginning was painful and in time you have adjusted well to a quiet life. And it is because you know how hard and difficult it is to be a single mother that you understand the life of Noah, Eve's best friend at school, and often gave the Bensons a little help, even though you didn't know the boy's mother personally. You were surprised the day Noah got into your car with Evelyn after class claiming that his mother had let him come to your house to study for the test, which you found out was a lie when you found an angry brunette at your door accusing you of kidnapping her son. Needless to say, Evelyn and Noah were grounded for weeks.
Rita Calhoun
Tumblr media
- Paying for college is hard when you are young and new to a metropolis like New York, but you are determined to fulfill your dreams and get a degree at NYU, so you have gotten a night job as a waitress in a fancy restaurant and at events on the weekend. Sometimes the weekday work can be exhausting because of the hours, but it pays a decent wage and the customers tip well, especially the brunette in the suit who shows up almost every Tuesday, usually alone, and on other occasions accompanied by men in suits, as if they were in a meeting. She always orders the same wine and the chef's dish. Another Tuesday came and you were having a terrible day, it all started with a test that was annulled by a small detail, then you got rained on way from the dorm to restaurant and the icing on the cake is a new manager harassing you from the moment you arrived. Rita realized what was happening as soon as you attended to her and seemed extremely nervous about his lewd glances across the room, minutes after you left the table the man was there, having an apparently serious conversation with the woman. When you returned to pour the usual wine she seemed satisfied, which made you apprehensive thinking you did something wrong. "Is there a problem, Miss Calhoun?" you asked, standing rigidly beside her. "No, Y/N. But the manager will be soon if he keep acting like this." she smiled and winked at you before dismissing the service with a nod. "And you can call me Rita."

Just a cup of coffee
Alex Cabot x reader
Based off an anonymous ask but a little different spin
Word count: 700+
A/N: just my terrible writing and mistakes as always
Tumblr media
Everyday, like clockwork, you rounded the corner to none other than ADA Alexandra Cabot’s office with a scalding cup of coffee in one hand and an iced cap in the other. If anyone asked, it was just convenient to pick up Alex’s order it was on your way, right? Not quite. Little did anyone know what you would give to spend just one more second with the beautiful blonde who stole you heart with just one look. For God's sake, you didn’t even work for the bureau, and trust the gang at the bull pin never let you forget it.
Today was different, Olivia called you in early and your first thought was getting Alex her coffee. Today she was just going to have to get it early. You hurried to get ready and make your way to the Starbucks across the street from your apartment, and BAM… a rogue bicycled road right over your foot racing off to work. A quick ‘sorry’ was yelled over their shoulder as you yelped.
“Shit!” you yelled out in the crowded streets of New York. You limped off to a bench slinging every surge work in the book as you did.
Your cell started ringing, “Hello?” you asked.
“Where the hell are you, Y/L/N?” Liv yelled.
You explained your situation and she called over a bus to pick you up to take you in for x-rays to be on the safe side. It hadn’t even occurred to you that a certain unobtainable blonde was on the other side of the city waiting for you.
Alex sat in her office tapping her pen away at the stack of paperwork sat in front of her. Every noise she heard outside her door she looked up in disappointment when it wasn’t you. After the 20th time, she began to worry. It wasn’t like you to just not show. Even if you were in a hurry, and it was just a quick hand off. You always showed up.
“Hey, Alex. How did the arraignment go?”
Alex huffed at Liv, “Fine. Have you seen Y/N?”
She replied, “No. She’s at Mercy with a sprained ankle. I asked if she needed me to go by but she said she was fi-,” Alex didn’t even wait for her to reply as she rushed to grab her things and flew out of her office.
You were grumbling on your hospital bed angrily waiting for your release. The door to your room was pushed open and you looked up about to yell at the nurse again to release you, but the woman before you was not your nurse.
“Alex?” you asked as she rushed to your bedside and buried her face in your neck in a tight hug. “I was so worried about you, Y/N! Don’t you dare do that to me again! Do you hear me?”
“Alex, I twisted my ankle. I didn’t burst my eye drum. Please, calm down.” She rolled her eyes as she leaned up to look at you without dropping her arms from around you. “I’m serious, Y/N. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you,” she looked down blushing, refusing to elaborate further.
You took your hand and lifted her chin to look at you, “Hey, I’m not going anywhere, okay?”
She nodded and smiled the most genuine smile you had ever seen. She pulled you closer and held you until a nurse finally brought in your discharge papers.
Alex reluctantly took you back to the precinct after much begging from you. She helped limp your way inside and over to the elevators.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” you said as the doors opened. Alex smiled, and as you turned to make your way onto the lift, you felt her hand pulling you back in. As you head turned back around, you felt her lips connect with yours in the most passionate yet gentle kiss you had ever received. Once air became necessary, you both broke away just staring into each other's eyes.
Alex whispered, “You can count on it.” She winked at you before walking off blissfully.
You yelled back, “Coffee, tomorrow?”
She giggled, “I’ll count on it.”

"Thin Frames" - a Cabenson Fanfic full of suspense, sexiness and sweet moments!
Title of Fic: "Thin Frames"
Author: DAxilla (rest in peace <3 Your works of (fan)fiction have touched so many hearts and continue to do so!)
Fandom/Pairing: "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit", Olivia Benson/Alexandra Cabot
Synopsis: Not an alternative universe here - in this story, Olivia is working as the dedicated detective she is while Alex is exactly the passionate and ambitious ADA we've all come to love on the show! However, DAxilla gives us just what our hearts need: a beautiful, very well written, emotional love story between these two beauties. She manages to convey their thoughts and feelings with depth and never strays Out of Character, but at the same time, the fic is not your typical slow burn - however, there are still some major bump in the road to domestic bliss and hapiness because Alex is scared of letting Olivia in while Olivia has a hard time figuring the younger woman out. All of this is settled into the crime plot of the fic that really would make a great SVU episode! While the Cabenson moments in this fic are priceless (and the main reason we've all read it, c'mon!), the storyline based around the brutal mutilation and murder of upper-class business woman Samantha Wainscott, who also happens to be the daughter of Judge Wainscott, is such a creative one and composed with so much care, knowledge and detail that it left me awestruck more than once!
It's not as slow-paced as your typical slow-burn but at 31 chapters long, I can guarantee you that it makes for an compelling story that will have you go through aaaalll kinds of emotions.
I can't even express my gratitude that such brilliant pieces of FanFiction exist - and this fic is also the one that truly makes me yearn for a show that openly portrays the relationship between a strong, caring, badass detective and her beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated, no-nonsense blonde ADA girlfriend!

earth
earth: what’s your ideal house/home?
Two story, all black interior and exterior, floor to ceiling glass windows all around the house, black marble countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms, an island in the kitchen, hers and hers sinks in the master bedroom, a California king bed with an upholstered headboard (I'd prefer a velvet one but I'm not that picky), an Isla 67 or 71 inch transparent freestanding bathtub (in black) with an equally exquisite glass shower, and then cute rooms for the kids. Oh, and my home office needs to nicely decorated with paintings of my favorite fictional inspirations: Olivia Pope, Annalise Keating, Olivia Benson, ADA Alexandra Cabot, ADA Sonny Carisi, and Mickey Haller/The Lincoln Lawyer (the Netflix version).
That was real specific for a house, but home wise, I want the traditional stuff: a loving wife, a few kids, a yorkie and a goldendoodle, a flourishing career that pays the bills enough to live a comfortable life, and to just be happy. The simple things, really. And to think, you could've had it all, Lopez.

You Go Too Fast For Me ~Dom!Rough!Alex Cabot xFem Sub!Lover!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary— Alex comes back to Reader after a hard and long day in court. She immediately pounces on Reader to destress, but Reader can’t handle that intensity right now…
Mommy… Master List
Requests & Prompt-List
Warnings: NSFW, 18+!!!, smut, angst, little fluff at the end, kissing, strap fucking, rough sex, overstimulation, degradation, dom/sub relations, crying, comforting, eventual aftercare, eventual happy ending, etc.
Enjoy (;
The sound of skin slapping and of panting breaths filled the room. Alex was holding you on your knees by your hair and hip, as she pile drived into you from behind with her double ended strap.
She was going fast. She had wasted no time when you had come over, having stripped you and put you on all fours within minutes, saying something about work being long. She was fucking you hard. Alex pulled your hair tighter as she came closer to her climax. You squeezed your eyes shut tight. She was fucking you rough from behind, whispering the most degrading dirty talk in your ear.
You were gonna cum. So was she.
You both came Alex first, then you, before she pulled out of you and you both collapsed on the bed next to each other. Alex muttered a thank you before swiftly getting up and getting dressed again.
But you stayed in bed. You were sore. And the second she had pulled out of you, a wave of heavy sadness had hit you like a brick. Alex left the room to her closet to put her dirty clothes away and grab new ones.
A tear accidentally escaped down your cheeks. Your lips began to trembled. You couldn’t hold it in anymore. You sat up on the side of the bed and quickly wiped away the tears, trying to stifle the tsunami of emotions crashing into you. You then got up, with wobbly and sore legs, and went to pick up all your clothes. Alex came back into the bedroom as you were quickly and desperately getting dressed.
“Hey. Where are you going?” She asked, finishing putting her shirt on.
You looked away immediately, trying to rid your face of any evidence of sadness, while continuing to rush to dress.
“Gotta go…” you mumbled in no particular direction.
Alex’s stomache dropped. Something was wrong and she could feel it. The blonde came up to you, placing a hand on your back shoulder. You jumped at the contact, and that told Alex that her instincts were right.
“Hey. Hey, sweetheart… Talk to me, please…” Alex spoke gently.
You finally looked at the woman. Your lip started to tremble and your eyes were glossy. And then your legs gave out on you, being too sore and wobbly from your previous activities to handle such weight. Alex swiftly caught you with concern washed all over her face. She picked you up and placed you on the edge of the bed, sitting next to you. Your tears started to flow freely and you choked on your own air.
“What is it…?” Alex pled softly.
You sniffled, wiping your tears away once more.
“I… dunno— too much…” you chocked out in gasps.
“Oh Sweetheart… I’m sorry…” Alex sighed in concern, “Can I… Would it be alright if I touch you…?” She gently asked.
You nodded slowly, before feeling the woman’s hand on your back, comforting you with circular motions. Seeing you like this made Alex clench in anxiety and her head swim with guilt.
“Was I too rough…? Was the strap too big…?” Alex concerningly urged you to speak up.
You gulped, your breathing was still shallow and gasping.
“Mm hurts a little…” you whispered in confession, looking down in embarrassment.
Alex then grabbed your chin and directed your gaze to hers. Her own eyes were glossy now.
“Hey. Listen to me. This is not your fault. It’s mine. I am truly sorry, Y/N. I should have asked before I was so rough and degrading… before I used a new, bigger toy…” Alex apologized, as a tear rolled down her cheek.
You shook your head as the tears continued to fall.
“No no…it’s okay—” you stammered, before Alex interrupted you.
“No, sweetheart, it’s not. Not only did I come in and just use you for sex, but afterwards I just got up to get dressed… I didn’t… I didn’t check in or take care of you… Fuck Y/N I am so sorry, and I understand if you want to leave…” Alex breathed out.
You shook your head again.
“Don’t wanna leave…” you breathed out.
At this, Alex smiled lightly. And she nodded in response.
“Alright sweetheart, well how about a bath…?” Alex gently said, “Then maybe we can talk about some food…?”
You were starting to feel a little better now, although you were still sore. You pulled Alex’s hand into your lap and squeezed them in reassurance.
“Yes please…” you said, and Alex nodded, promptly picking you up and carrying you into the bathroom.
Once the tub was filled and you were in it, you reached for Alex’s hand.
“Join me…?” You whispered.
Alex’s face lit up even more and she nodded happily, taking her clothes off and getting into the warm water. You instinctually cuddled up into her frame and let out a deep sigh, finally feeling some relief.
“Thank you, Lex…” you whispered.
“Of course. I’m so sorry…” Alex said, sounding like a broken record.
“Is okay, Lex really…” you hummed.
“No it’s not…” she choked out.
You looked around to find Alex now in tears. Your face washed over in concern in guilt.
“No no no, Lexie it’s okay” you scrambled to calm the blonde.
“But… I took advantage of you…” Alex stammered.
“It was a mistake, you didn’t mean it—” you said in gentle comfort.
“But H-how could you ever forgive m-me…?” She choked out.
You brought your free hand up to caress Alex’s cheek. Your galley eyes meeting her teary ones.
“Alex, baby, listen to me. It is okay. If anything, it’s my fault for not saying anything. And it’s not like I didn’t enjoy it, it just… it was a little too much to handle, that’s all…” you reassured her.
Another tear escaped Alex’s eye, which you caught and wiped away lovingly. The blonde smiled lightly and nodded.
“Thank you, sweetheart…” Alex sighed, “I love you”
“Love you too.” You whispered, pressing your lips against Alex’s lightly and for a moment, before you both pulled away with sighs of content.

A/N: I know it's been a long time, and some of you decided that Evocations was over for you before we rounded the final curve ... but I am still determined to finish it, bc Cabenson deserves it. This story means something to me, even though Cabenson isn't canonically endgame. So, here's the next piece. There's not too much left to cover past this, so hopefully I can do the rest of it justice, too.
Rating: 14+
Spoilers: Scorched Earth, Lost Reputation, Above Suspicion
Trigger/content warnings: references to Domestic Abuse/Violence (M/F), alcohol, Domestic Homicide including graphic description of a crime scene, nausea and vomiting

Evocations: XXV
They say you can never start over the way it was, but for just a little while, they beat the odds. Somehow, it was 2002 again, with Alex in Olivia's bed at the end of the day, it was joints shared on the roof in each others' arms, talking about their years spent apart. There were no rough edges, no fighting. Just fucking, laughter, good food, and solid sleep.
When the world once again shifted beneath Olivia's feet, for the first time it was not Alexandra who left her.
Elliot disappears as though twelve years together evaporated into the aether. No words, no phone call, not a post-it note or a 'kiss my ass' to dream on. At the end of the day that she finds out from Cragen, she walks into her apartment to find Alex making dinner.
"Elliot quit," she tells the blonde, hands fisting her hips in an attempt to push the tremble in her voice down her arms and back into her body.
Alexandra stopped dicing just shy of severing a fingertip in surprise. Biting her lip in dismay at the emotion on Liv's face, she wiped her hands and came around to the brunette, enveloping her in a hard hug, which lasted a long time.
Alex tried what she could to dispel the dark cloud that Stabler's ghost wrapped around Liv; she pulled out every trick she knew from all their stuttered years, making time for wine nights, for trying new restaurants, for black & white film festivals. They were still happy together, but the blonde knew that something inside Olivia was broken, something that all the quality time in the world was never going to fix.
Not everyone's heart is made whole by the love of just one soulmate. Part of the identity Liv had carved out of herself was made to fit into Elliot Stabler, and his absence took up as much space as his presence ever had.
Stabler had been Liv's anchor, and now Alex knew that Olivia was adrift at sea.
.
.
Throughout 2012, ADA coverage was a three-way split for SVU between Cabot, Novak and Cutter. When one of them was handling a sex crimes case, the others were handed cases in other departments. Late that year, Alex got a call telling her to meet a client at the hospital.
A pack of bustling ER nurses parted to reveal a battered middle-aged woman who looked like she had lost a battle with the not-so-jolly Green Giant. For a moment, from a distance, she looked so much like Olivia that Alexandra's heart jumped.
"Hi," she says quietly when she gets within speaking distance. "I'm ADA Alex Cabot. What's your name?"
The scared brunette looked at Alex, but the gaze was hollow. "Betty," she answers through swollen lips, "Betty Bluestone."
When Alexandra gets home that night, she is poised to start telling Liv about Betty's DV case. But the apartment is dark and silent. A ripple of discontent passes through the blonde for the first time since she returned, and she is immediately uneasy. She doesn't call, or text - opts, instead, to open a bottle of wine and order in something to eat.
Hours later, Olivia finds her swaddled in the heavy throw blanket, asleep in front of some flickering old movie. There is unfinished wine and cold Chinese on the coffee table. The brunette shakes the ADA awake, unaware of all the words that come rushing up out of the sleepy blonde's mind about the beaten woman who looks like her.
Before Alex can form any of them, Liv tells her, "Cragen's been accused of murder."
.
.
They fight with each other, but only in their heads. Olivia dives into saving Cragen, which Alex understands, as Cragen is really the only father Liv has ever known. Alex doesn't budge from the Bluestone case, which Olivia won't forgive.
It makes the Autumn longer, and colder. They don't have much time for just each other - they are ships in the night, passing like ghosts, hulking and silent. Over the weeks, Betty becomes the surrogate for Alex's protection and concern: she checks in constantly, arranges shelter, makes sure there is no contact with Mitch, and preps Betty for court until both their voices crack.
Liv goes to war for Cragen; her years at SVU, and Elliott's abandonment both tangled up in her battle plans. She learns the hard lesson that parental figures are never faultless. She refuses to lose another part of what has made SVU her home.
In the end, both battles are lost.
.
.
"Mitch, no. Leave her alone, let's just go home."
Alex is numb with the cold on the stone steps of the courthouse. Her ears lift at the sound of Betty's plaintive voice.
"I should give that bitch a piece of my mind," Mitch Bluestone rumbles back to his wife.
"I just want to go home. I've missed you."
Alexandra's stomach knots at the words that come out of Betty's mouth. She turns just enough to watch the couple continue down the steps in perfect sync, waiting to see if Mitch will throw a snarl back over his shoulder.
Their day in court had been a disaster. Between Mitch's intimidation from the defense table, and his lawyer tearing Betty apart, it had all gone to hell. It had taken an act of divine intervention to keep Cabot from screaming when Betty had apologized meekly after telling the ADA that she and Mitch were going to "try one more time."
She stood in the cold for long minutes after the Bluestones had disappeared from sight, wishing for a joint, wishing for Liv's calm pragmatism, for anything but the emptiness that the defeat had punched into her. Even if she goes home, she knows she won't find relief, because Cragen is still in lockup. Olivia has slept and showered mostly in the cribs at the precinct for weeks, sending errant text messages when she had an extra three seconds in a minute.
So Alex goes to a bar instead, tossing back martinis that make up the largest portion of her meals for the day. By the time a woman makes eyes at her from across the bar, the blonde is four drinks deep, but allows the woman to buy her one more anyway. She stands up to leave when it's empty, and isn't sure if it's the world that's spinning her on her feet, or the Wheel of Fortune.
Perhaps both.
.
.
Alex wakes in bed in the apartment, with Olivia shaking her insistently. The dull ache of a hangover is a weight at the blonde's temples as she wonders when her lover got home, and if it means Cragen's charges are dropped.
"Lex," the brunette mumbles again, "Alex. Your phone's ringing."
She reaches to the bedside table, doesn't recognize the number, puts it haphazardly to her ear anyway. "Cabot," she muffles out.
"ADA Alexandra Cabot?" The voice on the line is far too awake for the hour, and Alexandra winces.
"Yes."
"We found your card in the effects at our crime scene. Is a Mrs. Elizabeth Bluestone your client?"
Her blue eyes snap open wide as she sits up in the bed. Olivia is already back to sleep and breathing softly. "Yes. Did she ask for me?"
There is an apologetic pause on the line, then: "Uh, no ma'am. She's dead."
.
.
Mitch is arrested and long gone from the scene by the time Alexandra arrives. The one cop car that remains outside has lights but no siren, the blue light illuminating the windows in staggered flashes. The darkened house full of shadows hulked on the lawn in the eerie quiet that follows chaos.
Unlike Olivia, who could flash a badge and push her way in to nearly anywhere, ADA credentials didn't grant Alex much entry. She waited uneasily for someone to fetch the cop in charge so she could get inside, and a younger guy, the one that had called her she presumed, came out to meet her.
"Neighbor called in a Domestic Disturbance," he explained quietly as he lead her into the house, "which escalated to Shots Fired before we even arrived. The husband went quietly enough, but the woman was DOA. We found your card in the pocket of her jeans."
At the end of the hall they turned into the bedroom, and Alex was hit immediately by the tell-tale scents of domestic violence that has reached its climax: sweat, gun powder, and the copper-metal tang of spilled blood. Her stomach lurched, already disquieted by her hangover.
Off the master bedroom there was an ensuite. The light inside it was on, the coroner and a CSI stood near the doorway, trading quiet murmurs between them.
"I don't imagine this was their first fight," the young cop said.
"No," Alex confirmed, her heart racing at the idea of looking inside the bathroom. She took another couple steps forward, then halted again. "Did he say anything?" she asked, "The husband?"
The police officer cleared his throat. The coroner, the CSI, both turned their heads to look at him. "He said . . . he said he wished he'd've had more bullets. Ma'am." He took a breath to tell the tall blonde ADA that she didn't have to go in there, but it was too late - she had closed the distance between herself and the doorway.
Alex swayed on her feet for just a second. Her nostrils flared, heart racing as her pupils dilated with the shock of fight or flight. Blood coated the bathroom tile, parts of the walls, and flecked the porcelain of the fixtures. Betty had dropped where she stood, a freeze-frame of her last moment, eyes wide open and a hole bulls-eyed into her forehead. The blood pooled around her head that had soaked into her dark hair was scattered with bits of brain and scalp and splinters of skull bone.
Mitch had said "I should give that bitch a piece of my mind," earlier that day, but instead had gone home and painted the ensuite with pieces of Betty's.
But the worst part were her eyes.
Not that they were open. Not even that they were dull with the finality of it all.
No, the worst of it was that instead of looking surprised by the turn of events the night had taken, Betty looked as meek and as cautious as she'd looked when apologizing to Alex after court. There was no righteous indignation, no pleading or regret.
Betty Bluestone looked for all the world as if she had been expecting it.
Betty Bluestone looked relieved.
Alexandra didn't see the long pale grey hallway wall, or recall ducking the crime scene tape as she rushed past the cop watching the front door. The next thing her eyes fixed on was the Bluestones' lawn as she threw up whatever was left of her drinks from earlier that evening. Normally, the ADA would be ashamed of such a rookie move, but Alex was past it that night. She was past all of it, perhaps for the first time in her whole life.
As the cold night air seeped into her skin, she thought of all her years at SVU. She thought of her years on the run - from Wisconsin to other made up lives, of all the people and love lost along the way. Then of Africa, of how anything she did there had been little more than a drip in a giant bucket of war and violence that never ended. Alex thought of Holland, of Knopf the cat, of Sky High, of the children she was probably keeping Olivia from having. There was all that loss, all those endings, all the change and activism that she had wanted to achieve.
And there was Betty, getting cold on the bloody bathroom tile.
It wouldn't do.
Not anymore.
.
.
The clean white light from above the stove is the only illumination in the apartment when Olivia gets home the night of the day of Betty Bluestone's death. Cragen is still in lock up. Cassidy had been shot. Her entire world was upside down, and all she wanted was to crawl into Alex's arms and find sleep that wasn't tainted with the impotence of all her efforts.
On the counter across from the semicircle of light was a little dark object that Liv didn't recognize. She stumbled through taking off her shoes as she got closer. Slowly, a faint smile crossed her features as she held the item up into the light, turning it.
It was a set of Nesting dolls, but instead of the traditional Russian doll style, they were painted to look like a female cop in uniform. Liv twisted the doll open to get to the next one, closing the largest and setting it aside. She repeated with the second doll.
The third doll was not a cop.
Liv frowned. The third wooden doll was a likeness of Alex: blonde, court-ready in a formal skirt and jacket combo, her reading glasses on. Then the fourth and fifth dolls went back to cops in uniform. Lastly, even stranger, the tiniest of the dolls was painted as a baby. It was just a tiny, indistinguishable face, swaddled in a white blanket. Olivia used a fingernail to part the seam in the wood and popped it open.
Inside of it was a ring.
Alex's ring.
Olivia had bought it for her for the first birthday they'd spent together after Alexandra's return. It complimented the diamond and rose gold one that the blonde had bought all those years ago.
The finality of it gripped Liv slowly, a tingling numbness that started in her toes and filled her all the way up. It felt familiar, and somehow different all at once.
The Matryoshka doll was Alex's goodbye letter.
Olivia was finally, truly, alone.

I dare you to.
Pairings: Casey Novak x Alex Cabot, Olivia Benson x Amanda Rollins.
Summary: The return of Casey Novak and Alexandra Cabot was definitely a surprise to everyone, but it also brought back that light that the squad needed. Olivia, Amanda, Casey and Alex became pretty close to the point where they started having girls night. Is a dare enough to bring Casey and Alex together?

The return of Casey Novak and Alexandra Cabot was definitely a surprise to everyone, even more after the whole ordeal of finding a new permanent ADA and ending up with people that didn’t stick to the team for long. There had been so many changes that at some point they felt a bit lost on what was going on in the precinct. New detectives joined, another ADA stopped by every single new case, it was a mess. So when both Casey and Alex came back, there was a light that was brought back to the squad, hearing the great news that they’d be sharing cases and helping each other out. Soon enough, the squad became close, both Casey and Alex now joined them for drinks after tough cases or after they won a case, either way, the squad was stronger than ever.
After the new of Olivia and Amanda dating, they became really close with Casey and Alex, being the only women that were part of the squad, somehow they became closer and at some point, girls night became a thing. It was a bit silly for Casey and Alex, even for Olivia, but Amanda encouraged them to keep it going, saying that it was a way to distract themselves from the daily workload and the cases they had to endure every single day, and she was not wrong, it helped as a distraction, it was fun, though they hated to admit it out loud. At some point they started not only meeting for drinks, but also for dinner and at some point they ended up going to Amanda’s house for dinners, board games and drinks; yes, they all had fun the first time, so they kept it going.
Olivia and Elliot were questioning a possible suspect, while Casey and Amanda stood in front of the window watching them work. The suspect was known for having flirting with every possible woman that stood in front of him, which of course Olivia had offered to go inside to play his games and try to get something, any possible information that could help them with the case. Amanda only laughed whenever he seemed to think he was being smart and he was getting all the attention, but in reality Olivia was getting him where she wanted.
“I bet you that Elliot is going to lose his mind in the next 3 minutes.” Amanda grinned as she looked at Casey.
Casey chuckled. “Elliot can last a bit longer. Liv is getting him to talk. Just a little more, and we have what we need.”
“C’mon, Case. You know Elliot. He’ll lose it.” Amanda looked back at them and shook her head.
“What do you bet?” Casey raised her brow and looked at Amanda.
Amanda looked back at Casey and grinned. “If he pins him against the wall in the next 5 minutes, tomorrow’s movie is gonna be a scary one. And not only a horror…but a horror that involves dolls.”
Casey rolled her eyes playfully. “Could you be any more childish, Rollins?” She smiled.
“Afraid to lose, Novak?”
Casey sighed as she nodded, looking back at them. “Fine.”
They both stared back at them, not even 2 minutes later, the suspect tried to touch Olivia and Elliot stopped him by grabbing him by his collar and pinning him against the wall, soon enough being pulled away by Amaro and Fin, trying to get Elliot out of the room. Amanda looked at Casey with a playful smirk and shrugged. Casey rolled her eyes again and grabbed her briefcase, walking out of the room followed by Amanda.
Olivia walked to her desk as she sighed and looked back at Casey and Amanda. “Is that enough?”
Casey nodded. “I could build a case with what he said, there is no way he’s getting out of this.”
Olivia nodded. “Good.” She then looked at her girlfriend and furrowed her brows. “What you smirking at?”
Amanda shrugged. “We’re watching a horror movie, tomorrow.” She grinned. “With scary dolls in it.” She looked back at Casey.
Olivia looked back at Casey. “I thought you hated-“
“Don’t even.” Casey sighed as she looked back at Amanda. “Guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” She offered a fake smile and then started to walk away.
“Don’t forget to tell Cabot!” Amanda yelled as she laughed.
“You really like to get on their nerves, don’t you?” Olivia grinned as she looked at Amanda.
“Oh, c’mon Liv. We need an excuse to get these together. What better than a horror movie?” Amanda winked.
“You do know that Alex is gonna come for you.”
“She’ll come to thank me.” Amanda smiled.
Olivia sighed as she kissed her forehead. “You’re going down yourself.” She chuckled as she sat on her desk.
********************
Alex groaned as she took off her glasses, putting them in front of her and rubbing her face softly, feeling the stress getting to her. She had been working on this case for a while now, she was still going over notes and evidence, but if she didn’t make a deal, she was afraid that she’d lose this case. She ran her fingers through her hair and sighed, putting back her glasses on and diving into the file again. But just in time, Casey knocked on her door and suddenly all that stress was vanishing away. She had never said it out loud, and she didn’t think she’d ever say it, but Alex had had the biggest crush on Casey ever since she came back for her own case, sitting in Casey’s office and talking to her had been the highlight of her day -if not her whole year-. Even if Alex was nervous and stressed about being back in courtroom and not exactly doing the questions but answering them, Casey definitely knew how to make her feel relaxed and got a laugh or two, making Alex feel less like a victim. After that day, she wished to see Casey again, but she had to leave again so she never saw her again. Until she decided to come back to SVU and not long after, Casey came back too. Now with the two back, they more time together, working on cases together, helping each other out and then they started hanging out at bars and going for lunch and that’s where their friendship became stronger, and even if Alex wanted to be more than friends, she’d accept having Casey in her life no matter what.
“Case, thought you’d be with the squad.” Alex smiled.
Casey scoffed as she sat down and stretched her legs, groaning softly. “Yeah, well. I’m done over there, we got what we needed.” She sighed. “We have girls night tomorrow. Movie night.”
Alex chuckled. “You look so excited about it.” She raised her brow.
“Kinda lost a bet to Rollins. We’re watching a horror movie.” Casey shrugged.
“A horror movie doesn’t sound so bad.”
“It does when it involves dolls. You know I hate them.”
Alex raised her brow but this time, a serious look on her face. “Oh. Well…you don’t have to watch it, Casey. We can just agree on another movie.”
“I’m not a sore loser, I can do it.”
“Casey…you’ll have nightmares.” Alex chuckled softly.
“I’ll be fine, Cabot. I got this.” Casey smiled. “So, should we leave together after work?”
Alex cleared her throat as she nodded. “Yes, sure.” She smiled.
“Remember to bring comfy clothes.” Casey winked at her as she stood up. “Lunch?” She said as she walked to the door and turned to confirm with Alex.
“I-I’ll be done in 20.”
“Good, meet you in the elevator.” Casey smiled softly and then left the office.
********************
“Casey, you cannot close your eyes at all, understood?” Amanda raised her brow as she looked at Casey, turning off the lights.
Casey raised her hands. “That wasn’t part of the deal!”
“You gotta watch the whole movie, or there’ll a punishment!” Amanda sat between Olivia’s legs and chuckled softly, Olivia wrapping her arms around her.
Casey rolled her eyes as she moved back on the couch, crossing her arms and shrugging. “Fine.”
Alex looked at Amanda and Olivia and raised her brow. “Do we really have to watch this?” She grabbed the bowl of popcorn and handed it to Casey, sitting down beside her.
“Alex, it’s fine. A bet is a bet. I’m no loser.” Casey offered a small smile as she grabbed some popcorn.
Alex nodded softly as she smiled, looking at Casey. “Got it.” She then turned to look at Amanda and Olivia and shook her head before looking at the TV.
Olivia leaned down and whispered in Amanda’s ear. “Told you Alex would come for you.” Amanda shrugged and pressed play.
The movie started off calmly, the four of them getting into the movie. About half way through the movie, a room full of toys was shown, and in some parts of the room, there were those dolls that Casey hated so much. She knew it was a silly fear, it was even childish if she thought about it, but her whole life she had been so scared of those dolls who seemed to have real eyes, it was like they were staring into her soul whenever she saw one. What was the point of making a doll look so real? It was a toy after all. Casey took a deep breath and tried to hold onto the popcorn bowl, trying so hard not to put it in front of her face to over her eyes, she felt herself starting to feel a bit anxious as the camera focused more on the dolls, but before she could do anything else or even think of doing something, she suddenly felt a pair of hands covering her eyes. She jumped slightly but then turned to look at Alex who offered a soft smile.
Alex leaned in and whispered in Casey’s ear. “Amanda never said anything about someone else covering your eyes. You didn’t ask for me to do so.” She grinned as she moved back to her spot but still stayed close to Casey.
Casey blushed softly as she looked at Alex, smiling as she grabbed a handful of popcorn and moved her head back to look at the TV once Alex’s hand moved away, signaling that there were no more dolls for now. Amanda noticed this and looked back at Olvia, and then back at Casey and Alex. She then cleared her throat and said out loud that she’d get more snacks and drinks and for Olivia to help her out, literally dragging her to the kitchen.
“That’s so unfair!” Amanda whispered yelled as she looked at Olivia. “Can’t you say something about it?”
Olivia chuckled as she shook her head. “Oh, no way. I’d like to stay on Alex’s good side, thank you very much.”
“I hate you.”
Olivia chuckled as she kissed her forehead. “No, you don’t. You love me.” She smiled. “And I’ve told you before, dare Casey to confess her feelings for Alex. That’s what you get for not listening.”
“Are you kidding? Casey would kill me, I can’t do that!” Amanda sighed as she looked at the living room.
“Then you’ll just have to accept that this is happening and in no way you’re gonna tell Alex to stop.” Olivia chuckled. “You’re afraid of Alex.”
“I’m not, she’s really nice but…I know she’d definitely kill me if I say something to her, so I guess I’ll just accept this.” Amanda sighed as she walked to the fridge to grab some drinks for the four of them.
Once they walked back to the living room, they noticed that Casey had fallen asleep and not only that, but she had fallen asleep against Alex who now had her arms wrapped around her and her hand holding Casey’s head against her chest. Alex looked up at both women and if stares could kill, they were sure they’d be dead by now. Alex’s stare was always so intimidating, they’d literally do anything that Alex said just so they were safe. They sat back down in silence and continued watching the movie, until it was actually over. Amanda looked back at Alex and cleared her throat, trying to talk as quietly as possible.
“Well…movie is done.” Amanda offered a shy smile.
Alex sighed softly. “I cannot believe both of you thought it was a good idea. Knowing perfectly Casey hates those dolls. She could have nightmares.” She whispered softly, making sure Casey was still asleep.
“Hey, it wasn’t my idea. It was all Amanda.” Olivia said in her defense, getting a slap on her arm.
“Traitor.” Amanda furrowed her brows as she looked at Olivia.
Olivia looked back at Alex and sighed. “Plus, you should be thanking her because you have Casey in your arms.” She grinned softly.
Alex blushed and tried to look away, but her eyes landed back on Casey. “I…I’m not sure what you mean, I-“
“Alex. We know you have feelings for Casey. You have heart eyes whenever she’s around. Why would you try to deny it? Just tell her already.” Amanda shrugged as she smiled.
Alex stared at her with a deadly look in her eyes. “Shut up.” She whispered/yelled.
“All we’re saying, Alex, is that you should tell her, that’s it.” Olivia grinned as she got up to turn the lights back on.
Casey took a deep breath and stretched, groaning softly as she opened her eyes. She looked up to figure out she was leaning over Alex and blushed slightly, sitting back down. “Sorry.” She whispered as she smiled.
Alex cleared her throat, suddenly feeling warm at the sound of Casey’s sleepy voice, it was raspier than her actual voice. “No worries, slept well?”
“I did.” Casey smiled as she looked back at Amanda and Olivia. “Movie’s over?” She grinned.
Amanda rolled her eyes playfully. “Yeah, glad you got through it. Not doing that again.”
Casey chuckled softly, looking down at her watch. “We should probably go. I have arraignments in the morning.”
Alex nodded. “Agree.”
After helping them clean up a bit, grabbing their stuff and saying their goodbyes, both women left the building and got into Casey’s car. Alex loved whenever she got into Casey’s car and she just watched her drive, she felt so at ease and she enjoyed the silence between them, just the two of them. They finally got to Alex’s building and even if Alex insisted for Casey to stay in the car, Casey insisted on walking her to her apartment. They both shared some laughs while in the elevator as Alex told her Amanda’s face when she figured out that Alex was covering her eyes, Casey fascinated as she watched Alex laughing.
“Did she say anything to you?” Casey chuckled as she looked at Alex, walking down the hall to Alex’s apartment.
“No, she wouldn’t dare.” Alex raised her brow as she looked back at Casey once they were in front of her door.
Casey sighed as she smiled. “Thank you, for protecting me from evil dolls.” She chuckled.
“My pleasure.” Alex smiled.
Casey nibbled on her lip as she looked into Alex’s blue eyes, a faint smiling showing on her face. “How about dinner tomorrow?” She smiled. “Just the two of us.”
Alex’s heart fluttered as she stared into green eyes, a shy smile on her face. “I’d like that, actually.”
Casey nodded. “We can leave after work. My treat by the way, I’m the one inviting you.” She smirked.
“Fair enough. Looking forward to it.”
Casey smiled. “Me too.”
They stared into each other’s eyes for a moment, neither of them wanting to move, and then Casey wetted her lips before she leaned in and kissed Alex’s lips softly. Alex gasped softly against her lips, her hands slowly moving to Casey’s neck to pull her closer. The kiss didn’t last long, but it was enough for both of them to feel their bodies getting warm and the usual butterflies they felt whenever they were together. Both smiled against each other’s lips and pulled away slowly. Alex smiled softly as she stroked Casey’s cheeks, a faint blush on her cheeks.
“See you at work.” Alex whispered softly.
Casey only nodded before she grabbed Alex’s hand and kissed the back of it, making her way back to the elevator. “Oh, by the way.” She turned to look at Alex and smirked. “I have feelings for you too, if…that wasn’t clear by now.” She winked at her before she disappeared.
Alex stood there at her door, mouth gaped in surprise. She huffed a chuckle as she shook her head, getting her keys to open the door. “She was awake.” She whispered softly as she chuckled again and walked into her apartment.

remember that episode where megan stormed into her mother's office, saying something about interior design on lacey's room and there's an ada there?
well, what if that ada is alex cabot 😏
so when judge hunt asked alex for a moment with megan, alex stepped out, judge hunt immediately went:
"handsome, isn't she? ada alexandra cabot, she was just transferred here"
"mother, no. no more setting up with lawyers."
and guess what? later the case was handled by alex and she went to the office of medical examiner. when megan saw alex she groaned.
megan: no, no, mother did not just send you here to ask me out
alex, looking confused and amused at the same time: um no, I'm here to require the information on the dead victim
megan, jaw dropped and embarrassed
and right this moment kate strolled by and caught on this awkward interaction. alex saw her and both started introduced themselves
kate: you must be the new ada. I'm dr kate murphy, chief medical examiner. and you have met dr megan hunt
alex: alex cabot, *look at megan* I guess we'll be seeing each other quite often, dr hunt *with that stupid charming smile on her face*
megan: *flustered*
kate: *confused why megan is flustered*
and you know the rest. alex dropped by the medical examiner quite frequently, of course most of the time she was with the detectives, at first. maybe weeks went by, alex went there by herself, discussing about current cases with megan. one day, after wrapping up a case, the gang was going to have a drink together, and just when all of them headed to the elevator, megan asked alex if she wanna come, and alex said yes. and someone, maybe ethan or sam whispered at kate "something is definitely going on with these two" and kate just frowned and looked at megan and alex walking towards them
