tagged by @earthly-apples to list my Top Ten musicals! thank you!
these are not the 10 I think are Objectively the Best in the World, just 10 of the ones I like most, For Reasons , and in no particular order:
1-Les Miserables, just getting this one done and cleared away bc everyone knows it's gonna be here anyway XD I am very aware of the problems it has (especially with Cammack happening to it over the years) but I also think it's genuinely one of the best musicals ever made. The musical paralleling? incredible, honestly never have heard it equaled.
2- Paint Your Wagon, Movie Version Only: I cannot even START to talk about this masterpiece or we'll be here all day. Every character in it is a terrible person. It's got an absolutely canon throuple. Both Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin sing. They are both bad at it. A deconstructed Western without making a big deal out of it, with Manifest Destiny being a not-even-thinly-veiled name for some of the worst excesses of colonization. This show is so much smarter than people want it to be. I have to shut up or this section will become an essay but anyway Watch Paint Your Wagon. 3-Newsies, stage version only: nothing but nonstop pro-union slam hits! And the choreo , holy crap! don't love the mandatory romance (romance has never felt mandatorier) but I do love Katherine herself and also everything else about this show, I have it on loop in my playlists and in my heart <3
4-Pirates of Penzance: gotta have a G&S musical here and this is my fave fave of theirs :D 5- Little Shop of Horrors, movie OR play, pure fun faustian plant bargain :D 6- Hello Dolly :dgkhsdlgh many of these are. Not cheery. But this one is! Sometimes I just like a bit of marshmallow fluff! and all the songs in this one are so fun and I love the various Levels of romances in it. 7- How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying -on the one hand this is such a simple and even cliché little comedy and on the other holy shit it's so cynical , I love it
8-Titanic-*gross sobbing noises* 9- One Bite- gad I feel so hipster going with "limited run local apocalypse comedy musical about zombies taking over the world as part of an alien plan to reclaim earth for the dinosaurs" but it's TRUE, I play this soundtrack for myself so much, and it was so fun to watch! 10- Ernest Shackleton Loves Me -who amongst us has not sought inspiration from the reconstructed version of historical figures they carry in their heart. WHO. ON THIS SIDE OF TUMBLR. Tell me it's you and I'll call you a liar. I have a zillion things to say about it and like ten people have watched it lmao , but it got me through the Worst Week and I love it forever.
Honorable mention to Repo Man , as a representative of all the shows I enjoy only small bits of. Good? Arguably No! But it DOES feature Zydrate, which as we all know, comes in a little glass vial.
ETA: I forgot to tag people! Tagging @pureanonofficial, @bewareofitalics, @wilwywaylan, @alicedrawslesmis, @himitsusentaiblog, @excessively-english-jd annnnd oh geez that's already so many!! Play along if you feel like it!

also going to say (again) real quick: claiming that it would be mean/unfair/unrealistic/would make mike a bad/unsympathetic person if he dated el and then turned out to be gay is actively a homophobic take. this is something that happens all the time in real life and is extremely realistic and especially for the young teenagers that they are, not a morally questionable action on Either the part of the writers or mike himself. people are constantly learning and growing and discovering themselves and that’s just part of life and of relationships. and even if it is tragic or somehow painful for el, again… it happens. a good story isn’t supposed to be free of conflict

A Beet by Beet Analysis - Part 1
This is largely just a walkthrough of the Good Omens season 2 episode 1 title sequence, though I have made some attempts to interpret the contents where I felt able to.
Because we of course don't know everything the series will contain yet it's hard to know which details to pick out and focus on, and how they might be interconnected or not. In my observation I have therefore paid extra attention to the things I felt were visually distinct in each title segment, as well as any (barely) legible text or symbols—all presented with pictures so you can make your own mind up.
I hope this will be useful to anyone who wants an overview of the titles without having to go over the whole sequence frame by frame yourself, since I think it’s useful to put the details in context relative to each other, in case their order or placement might be important. I’m sure others have already pointed out the things I will bring up here, and added more context and better analysis; I'm just here to join in the fun! :)
Oh, and the title of this will make sense in due course.
So, where do we start off? With a mountainous landscape, and some pretty self-explanatory symbolism. Our occult (ethereal!) forces join up, Crowley climbing out of hell and Aziraphale coming down from the heavens. They’re coming from their separate sides in season 1 to arrive on their own side: earth.
Tumblr media
They enter a cave together. Crowley lights a match to light their way. The action is emphasised both by it being the only action taking place at the time, and the fact that the two of them are in closeup.
Tumblr media
Through a hard cut we emerge into a hilly desert landscape. It’s dark, but we can see a man walking with a box. Notice the label with the three arrows pointing up. This box is a recurring theme throughout the title sequence—keep an eye out for it. Is it significant that the box appears this early? Who is the delivery man?
Tumblr media
The sun rises above the hill in the distance, and we see a large number of animals: a few sheep, and lots of goats (kids anyone?). Our main duo are followed by a black-robed figure, possibly death, as they come upon an ancient city. The sun rises while Crowley strikes another match alight right behind, or possibly against a goat. He doesn’t need it for light; he does it to set the animals on fire, and they are all engulfed in flames.
The visuals in this segment, the presence of death, and it being Good Omens immediately sends my thoughts to biblical times and biblical places. My guess is that this either Sodom, Gomorrah, or a third town inspired by the two of them that’s being set ablaze. Though why it’s the animals specifically on fire I have no idea, and may count against this theory. (I’ve also never read a religious text, so I don’t know the story well enough to tell if this theory makes any sense at all.)

🔥 Unpopular 5D's opinion?
BROTHER THIS WHOLE BLOG IS AN UNPOPULAR 5DS OPINION. 5DS SEASON 2 NUMERO UNO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(but for realsies: a lot of 5ds fans really adamantly act like s1 and s2 fare these two completely different shows, and while i do think season 2 has many flaws and is. Clumsily Written In A Lot of Areas to Say The Least, to act like these two parts have nothing in common with each other is a disservice to the 5Ds' themes on the whole (and also season 1 has its stretches that clumsy and kind of a slog too let's be real. i know youre not going to bat for the four (4!!!!) fucking episodes of monkey duel spirit world dark signer meanderfest. come on now.)
dawg it's all about what makes someone a person it's all about how the bonds we have with one another can prevail in the face of external antagonistic forces both ancient (Earthbound Immortals) and distant future (Iliaster) it's all about how the dead can walk again in many a way it's all about how you'll always have someone at home who loves you. god i fucking love 5D's.)

since i just reblogged saying smthn about casey being able to cook i think i should share with you this thought i had like a month ago while cooking dinner
So, and just hear me out on this, April isn't BAD at cooking. she can do it. She just. Shes not too good at the flavor part on her own. she has to follow a recipe or it will be dry, bland, and overall a. not bad but NOT GOOD. experience.
So, within the farmhouse arc, April is cooking dinner. Casey walks in, makes a couple jokes about being married, yadda yadda, normal casey stuff. Then he sees. then he sees the bland mess that she is cooking. i'm talking chicken with no seasoning other than salt.
Casey: not even pepper?
April: It's a bit too spicy for my tastes..

to be real for a second, i think there is a moment in the show where mike has a ~realization~ of sorts about his feelings but hasn't quite put two and two together yet.... and it's this:
Tumblr media
this realization of "hey my feelings for will are actually maybe different than my feelings for my other friends, but i'm not sure why" happens at the end of season two. and then mike spends the entirety of season three acting sort of strange and different around will while having his relationship with him constantly juxtaposed with his relationship with el. reaching the end of that season which, despite all the supernatural shit going on, took the time to focus so heavily on those two relationships (and how fundamentally different they are), and having mike have the same realization he had at the end of season two makes no sense because it would mean he accomplished absolutely nothing in his emotional arc during the course season three
Tumblr media Tumblr media
especially to claim that he still believes he has feelings for el going into season 4. especially to claim he still believes he has feelings for el by the end of season 4. it's to claim that he has not made any emotional progress in his relationships for at least two full seasons, that he's been going through all of this for it to not have made any conscious impact on him, and the changes in the way he acts from s2-3 and from s3-4 aren't a product of his character developing (growing, changing, to quote hopper's letter) but rather..... ? i don't know actually. just him feeling weird but not understanding himself at all. still. it just doesn't make sense to me. he's one of the main characters of the show, and to keep him emotionally stagnant for 4 out of 5 seasons (especially when we can see that his behavior is changing, that he has not been stagnant at all but rather deeply affected by everything) would be a disservice to his character, first of all, but also a disservice to the narrative which has been showing us his (as well as the other characters') struggle with growing up and growing into himself every season. and it simply doesn't align with what we're being shown
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mike is already having realizations by the end of season two. but by the end of season three, he's starting to be really honest with himself about what they mean

A Beet by Beet Analysis - Part 3
This is part 3 of this explanation/analysis. To see the other parts, click here.
Stairs stairs stairs, and we’re going down. All the way down. Skulls, spiderwebs and pipes (keep an eye out!) pass by in the foreground as we finally emerge into hell. Our procession continues out through the other opening of the mausoleum and over a solid rock bridge, while glowing lava flows beneath them.
On a darkened plateau to the left is a guillotine (French revolution?), on the right a floating upside-down demonic star spinning upright like an advertisement sign. Office furniture is stacked on rocky pylons and a giant spider descends from a cliff in the background, rearing up and roaring. What is that horrid winged creature on the top right?
Tumblr media
Hard cut to a much brighter but no more cheerful scene: London during the Blitz. Do I even need to point out that this corresponds to the church scene and the elaboration we know we’re be getting on that story? The procession is emerging from an underground staircase onto the ravaged streets, and a sign informs us that they’re coming from the “Gents”. Mostly everything is just in ruins: houses, busses, fences, and there’s rubble everywhere. As we pan along, a tank is revealed to have joined the procession.
Some things stand out in the wreckage though: two askew 30 mph signs, and a classic underground sign dumped in the foreground. The silhouette of another round road sign passes by in the foreground, though we can’t identify it as another 30 on account of it being completely in shadow. The speed limit seems to be important here—did you hear that, Crowley? As we pan along, a tank is also revealed to have joined the procession.
Tumblr media
The side of the devastated bus is uncovered, its advertisement reading “WINGS FOR VICTORY”. Could those wings be mechanical, or perhaps rather more divine in nature? A poster further along advertises the movie “STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN”.
There is also a broken piece of writing in the bottom right corner, something like “…MATIC…ION”. I've added views of it from several frames to show as much of the text as possible. Just then a bomber dives in and drops its cargo just in front of our ducking duo, creating a huge explosion.
