I struggle immensely with the “Nina is the Most Pure of Heart™” narrative, not because I think she’s a bad person, but because I just don’t think she’s any more morally sound than anybody else in the damn house

She had a new mask now. This one only covered half of her face.

Slowly, with shaking hands, she took it off, catching the briefest glimpse of her reflection in front of her. Staring back at her was her own face, a horrible burn covering almost half of one side.

It wasn't the only burn she'd sustained. Cinder, the fall maiden, had done a number on her during their fight. At the very least, Gale was still alive even after all that. That was most important.

Even then, Nera almost didn’t recognize herself. Her face used to look perfect. Now...

She covered her eyes, trying to hide the tears.

So I haven't read the Button House Archives yet so I might be wrong but logically, Humphrey's death could have lead straight to Mary's death

England was still feudal when Humphrey and Mary were alive meaning there were rigid classes that worked in service for the class above them. Obviously, Humphrey was the Lord of the house, so he was in charge of the land and everything/everyone on it; in return for the land, he worked for the King. Mary and her family were serfs so they were bound to the land they lived on and had to work for the Lord who owned it.

Mary says that she never left the village she was born in so it's fair to say she died there too, meaning the land Button House's is on. Mary and Humphrey were also both alive at the same time (they overlap by four years) so he specifically would've been the Lord her family was working for. Unfortunately, Humphrey died, Sophie disappeared, and it doesn't seem like they had any kids so there would be no one ruling over that land by the time Mary was four.

You can't have a serfdom with no Lord so it is possible that someone was sent to Button House to take their place but given the current political climate (Mary and Elizabeth fighting for the throne) and the Bone's involvement in a coup, it is unlikely that someone from the palace would want to send someone too quickly. So that leaves all the people living on that land with a huge power vacuum. It is possible that they were able to self-govern or just keep doing what they were doing but we do know that by the time Mary was an adult, things were in complete disarray.

Mary's death specifically was because all the crops froze and they needed to blame someone but a stable community typically didn't jump straight to witchcraft accusations in situations like this. They would go to the Church/clergy, cunningmen, other office holders like village representatives (think like Mick for the plague ghosts), and people who knew the law/were educated for help before jumping to witchcraft. Meaning, their community had been unstable for a considerable amount of time and they were getting really desperate. Not having any form of leadership for about thirty years would be a good reason for a community to be continually struggling and getting increasingly desperate.

Meaning, you can draw a pretty straight line from Humphrey's death to Mary's

I failed to be productive IC-wise today, but at the same time I think that it is for the best that I make an announcement concerning the short term activity of this blog. This Wednesday I have one last partial left to do and next week I'll start with the waves of finals. So in advance, I'll say that my activity will decrease significantly from 5 to 12 of February. It's true that until then I have a little bit more of spare time, but I also don't want to stress myself for being unable to write anything, as having proper rest is also important for the intense time that it's about to come.

i think it would be good if it was like. iron man offers to help fix the bot. oor just, helps him. no expectation of anything else. and the doombot is supicious because of course it is, it was programmed by Paranoid Bastard Supreme, and it's not like iron man can even tell it why he wants to help it so badly, because even if he doesn't think it's actively a danger that doesn't mean giving it the information that he isn't human like everyone assumes wouldn't be... an incredibly bad idea. it's still attached to a supervillan, after all

(also sidenote but i am frothing at the mouth about potential doomquest in this universe it would be SO funny,,,,,, king arthur sends a pretty lady to iron man's room for "companionship" and iron man is just like. ah. ok. i dont know what is expected of me right now. also doomquest is very good to me, specifically, because its one of the only early comics things where almost anyone has more respect for tony than for iron man, which i enjoy, i think it would be SO good for airon man au especially if iron man is like. in danger of just... running out of power. technicallyyyyy i think this should also be a problem in canon, i think doomquest happens during chestplate era, where hes largely not able to go more than about a day without Dramatic Wall Outlet Time and yet hes fine just vibin in camelot (famously deprived of wall outlets) for at least a couple of days, but YEAH SEND AIRON MAN TO CAMELOT i think hed be both freaked out and also. sad that tony couldn't experience it. i think the background radiation of iron man's life is just... sadness that tony cannot experience any of the cool things he does)

but like... him continuing too help this doombot. maybe the doombot also helps him out somehow, as well. maybe subtly interveening in some fights. maybe giving iron man some neat lil tech tips. maybe a;klsdjfasdf the doombot still wants like. Something To Do and not just sit idle all the time or something so iron man hooks 'em up with a fuckin. tech support job. or like, product testing, for SI. something where he can just fix shit thats been broken in the stupidest ways or, try to destroy other things. who knows i dont. but maybe theres an attack at SI and iron man deals with it but hes damaged, and normally he'd like. hide away and do a quick n dirty patch job just so theres not obvious holes into nothing, but. the doombot follows him. and finds him. and its just... looking at eachother. knowing "oh fuck we're the same" and also "oh fuck he knows"

Tomorrow I have a partial to prepare for, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to squeeze some spare time to get some writing done. Next week I have the last two partials on Monday and Wednesday, so there is that too. Thankfully I'll be able to relax a bit for a good part of the remainder of the week to play through the new Genshin patch before diving in full to do those finals ♥︎
