MOORCROFT:
William Moorcroft (1872-1945), an art school graduate and the son of a Burslem china painter, was first employed in 1897 as a 24-year-old designer for the commercial pottery and porcelain firm of James Macintyre & Co.
Within a year he was in charge of the company’s ornamental ware department and, by 1904, the Art Nouveau-influenced Florian Ware that perfected the technique of trailing slip known as tube-lining had won him a gold medal at the St Louis International Exhibition.

Do you remember the Time Team coming to Burslem in 1999?
As a self-professed local history nerd, some of my fondest childhood memories are intertwined with explorations of local history. One such unforgettable experience was in 1999 when the acclaimed Time Team arrived in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, to unearth the secrets of Josiah Wedgwood's first factory.
At just 12 years old, I had the thrilling opportunity to witness this historical excavation first-hand and see the people I watched every week on the TV up close in my city! A memory that has stayed with me ever since.
See my photos from the day and nerdy little 12-year-old me here - https://www.theredhairedstokie.co.uk/a-young-historians-dream-witnessing-the-time-team-excavation-at-burslem/

On 23 April 1913 the King and Queen toured The Potteries in Staffordshire. This short film shows Their Majesties at Royal Doulton at Burslem where they are met by the workforce who, according to press reports, provided a living representation of the different stages of making pottery on a raised platform in the works yard. This was towards the end of a two-day visit to the region during which the King and Queen visited well over a dozen different pottery manufacturers. The Royal Doulton factory on Nile Street at Burslem closed in 2005. Royal Doulton continues to produce some items in Staffordshire in Barlaston with other production carried out in Asia.

Josiah Wedgwood: Alfarero Inglés ¿O es británico? “Real”
Tumblr media
