My friend is headed home from NYC cause the air is so bad. This picture was taken in Columbus Circle a few minutes ago. The miasma stinks of burned rubber and gives you an instant throat ache. My eyes burn as well. Here it’s just as bad; outside, there is an orange haze over everything. The pollution is caused by 400+ fires burning in Canada.
This is GROUND LEVEL in New York City right now, NOT mars! Gerald Kelly (twitter)

“I live in the Managerial Age, in a world of "Admin." The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid "dens of crime" that Dickens loved to paint. It is not done even in concentration camps and labour camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern."
[From the Preface]”

So, apparently, the smoke from the Canadian fires has reached central Illinois. Mentioned to mom how it was hazy with a weird smell this morning and she told me to check the air quality map cuse some people were saying it had gotten this far south and, ya, it has.
Just took Rosie out before bed and its still hazy, has been all day, but the smell was gone.
So, anyone this far south, keep an eye on your health. Its showing its "dangerous for certain people" (elderly, very young, people with respiratory issues, ect) in our area now.
People weren't kidding, literally all of the Canada fire information Im seeing is just how bad the air is in New York City. Like, yeah, sure, its bad. Deal with it? You aren't the one literally on fire
Hey wasn't there like a post that jokingly was about someone finding a face mask reminiscing about covid being simpler times before reaching for a gas mask to leave out for work???
It’s funny how the Lorax just starts randomly becoming popular and then the fucking Canada wild fires trash our precious air (My asthma cannot handle this). coincidence? I think not. Also istg if South Park doesn’t make an episode about this air quality shit I will cry.
The word gets thrown around a lot but I really don’t know what else to call us being expected to still go to work/school while the air is poisoned but dystopian.
