My thoughts on the chapter and another anon about it under the cut:

I'm sorry but Guts' breakdown is hilarious to me lol, it's so fucking overwrought, I'm dying. Full on losing his shit and sobbing while remembering all the good times he's had with his fucking sword. Like yeah, thematically it makes sense, Guts is all about his sword, this is the knockdown to the set up of him waxing poetic about it all the way back in chapter 48, etc. But come tf on lol. I wonder if Miura would've been able to pull it off better and make it feel more emotionally fitting honestly.

Also nelsonlaugh.wav at everyone who insisted his sword was a symbolic stand in for Casca and he was really having a breakdown over her kidnapping. Still not a thought spared for her. You love to see it.

Yeah it def seems a little ooc to me. Miura always drew him with a neutral to blandly positive expression as far as I can remember, with some interesting subtle emotional shades imo, and I don't think there's a single instance of evily smirking NGriff in his art. But to be fair Miura was fucking incredible at nailing expressions. Like this is Miura's smug NGriff:

I can imagine this is someone aiming for the same vibe and just not being able to pull off the sense of subtlty:

But it's definitely a shame lol, the moustache twirling smiles are so much less interesting than

Apparently, there was a new chapter of BNHA. Nowadays, I don't really check unless I hear that Atsuhiro may be in it, but I've heard that Spinner's fairly prominent in the last couple, so I checked them out.

They seem fine enough. Not a huge fan of Spinner and the PLF being made into strawmen against "the right way" for heteromorphs to do things at the expense of their previous personality traits, but BNHA is no stranger to tearing down legitimately interesting characters for the sake of the students, so there's no surprise there at this point. A while back, I said that Spinner was the only unharmed League member - aside from Twice and Compress, who bowed out on a mostly positive note - who wasn't reduced to a complete caricature for the brats of 1A to beat up, but with this new Monster Spinner (TM), it's starting to veer into that territory for him, as well. At this stage, I've long given up hope of the villains being shown any respect, and if I ignore that, it's perfectly alright. It's competent, which is more than any other chapter past 300 can say.

Griff was deadass crying like a hour before this (the time between this and chapter 364 hasn't been that long) so him looking like "yes completely as planned!" Is freakin hilarious.

He can be petty but idk. Feels too much like a fatal flaw set up/foreshadowing to Griff losing for wanting too much.

Yeah, here's hoping it isn't foreshadowing for that bc oof. Honestly I don't think I mind him being a little smug after the Elfhelm "fight" though because, teary werebabying aside lol, he got to be untouchable and piss Guts off again by existing which I definitely think he can find some petty enjoyment in. But man it would be nice to see some hints of mixed feelings wrt the single tear or something. He says it's a fleeting emotion that goes away quickly, so like, fine, but of course mr repression would say that. It would make sense for him to be concerned about it yk?

I feel like if Miura was still at the helm we would at the very least be getting some intriguing enigmatic expressions.

Some thoughts about the new chapter: love, love Guts' warm memory of human!Griffith radiant and smiling and the Beast of Darkness' jaws closing around it, like what a good visual. Don't love Neo!Griffith smirking either though, it's OOC and it reminds of that dumb bit in the 2nd OP of the 2016/17 anime. Not a good sign tbh. Neutral about Guts' breakdown over his sword, on one side I love that he's not sparing a single thought about Casca, on the other it looks pretty goofy as you said.

I hate to contradict that first bit because I would also fucking love that and I feel bad pointing this out lol, but I do think that's meant to be NeoGriffith, not human Griffith, because of the slit pupils and because it's a close-up of the panel right before where he's in his NGriff armour:

It definitely feels like a more human expression though, which is interesting. Could be they were going for that detached neutral smile, but you'd think in Guts' mind it'd be more like the smug smile on the last page.

And yeah, totally agree on the rest.

godDAMN… this chapter was really something else. I can hardly imagine shoji’s pain of being rejected not only by society but by other mutants, who are supposed to be his people. and even after all that, shoji still has incredible heart and sympathy for the villains, who he knows are hurting as much as he is. as sudden as this arc was i’m really liking it so far.
