Co-development of three systems linked with baby's respiratory health
Co-development of three systems linked with baby’s respiratory health
A new multidisciplinary study conducted by researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center has found that the co-development of three systems, the gut microbiome, respiratory system and immune system, is correlated with a baby’s respiratory health, and an infant can have negative respiratory outcomes if the development of one of these systems is disrupted.
The study, “Aberrant newborn T…

hello! as a celebration of me finally getting my driving license (shoutout to my instructor, he is an absolute saint and has forever changed my perspective on cars and car nerds), i thought i'd ask about your opinion on the cars my family owns — the Škoda Fabia I (the specific one we have is a combi from late 2004. slowly perishing, mainly of rust) and Kia Cee'd (2013??). is there anything remarkable about these two?
Ah, the Ceed, as Kia cowardly renamed it in 2018, in a decision I deliberately reject as I keep on referring to it as Cee apostrophe d, as Top Gear liked to call the earlier model they gave celebrities to go try to get themselves killed on tape, Tom Cruise getting the closest because of course it would be him.
Notice how nary an ounce of steering was given up whatsoever. Man was just balancing the car with the throttle in the true racing driver spirit of "If I die I die and if I don't this'll be a good time".
However, this is a bit of a sidetrack, as that's not your car - that'll be one o' deez, which whether as a 5 door...
...station wagon...
...or its bafflingly named coupe version (Pro_Cee'd????)...
...looks sharp as a goddamn tack in my books. In fact, wanna know how that's not just cheap flattery? That station wagon was actually the car I was pushing for our family to get when ours needed changing! Life didn't grace us with the opportunity, however, and so we ended up replacing our grey Citroën Picasso MPV with another (the ole' Xsara Picasso to C4 Picasso pipeline) which served us decently over a couple years before developing woes and getting passed on to family friends more willing to deal with them. Weird car, that C4 Picasso. Most of the steering wheel didn't turn.
Now, you may ask why those French folx would do that. And the answer is in the word French.
I can just imagine the designers asking feedback about the handbrake and getting all giddy as they look at them struggle to figure out where it is. Actually, go on, you try!
Wait, wait, we're once again getting sidetracked, we've still not addressed the Fabia! And that's a crime, because it was a hugely important car for Škoda: as Volkswagen's involvement with the company had turned from shareholder to owner its involvement in the cars had turned from help to codevelopment, making the Fabia a humongous departure from Škodas of old. However, for the latest Octavia, no closer to those hunksajunk, the rave reviews had been no match against Škoda's brand image, which was so terrible that even Wikipedia feels comfortable saying they were laughing stocks.
So for the Fabia, Škoda turned to marketing agency Fallon London for a very bold advertising campaign. So bold in fact that I didn't even stumble into it through my passion for cars, but through my study of marketing.
And it's so simple you could miss it.
(...it's in the lower right.)
This simple idea, and how hard they doubled down on it...
...completely turned Skoda's fortunes around, in a brand repositioning so successful that all of Fallon's Škoda-related ads received awards. Including this one.
That's not even an ad for Škoda. That's an ad for themselves.
Links in blue are posts of mine about the topic in question: if you liked this post, you might like those - or the blog’s Discord server, linked in the pinned post!

at last heres a pic of the haul from Sundays game market visit!! it was a lot of fun if very overcrowded lol.
wouldve probably bought more of the expensive stuff if i had more money atm but im very happy with the deals i got. stuff like Samba de Amigo, SEGA Superstars Tennis, Guitar Hero and M&S Olympics were all VERY cheap (like $5 or less). also not pictured is dead rising chop til you drop on wii which was also very cheap. I'm super super excited to finally own OutRun 2 on Xbox as well, its one of the few games I actually got to play for the first time in an arcade and I've dreamt of having an about-as-pretty version of it at home ever since. Coast2Coast wasnt doing it for me!!!
Mario&Sonic at the Olympic Games in particular was extremely funny bc it has signs of Four different pricetags. the red one by Mario started at $45, and then it went to $10 before the $4 i bought it for. (idk where the 4th pricetag fits into this)
ANYWAY the big catch here for me was
♡☆Magical Starsign☆♡
I've been looking for this game for a whiiile and I'm so glad I found it both in very good condition and for just a little over $20!!!! This is a beautiful pixelart JRPG by the devs who codeveloped Mother 3 along with artists from the Mana series on SNES/PS1. VERY excited to play this one hehe >:3
oh also the GBA game is a bootleg replica of Sims 2 Bustin Out. it was 3 dolar.

Did you hear about situation with Unity?
I have and I have spent the past days talking to my friends about it since a few of them have work related to video games. Unity was one (if not the most) of the most used game engines in the industry at the moment. I’m sure there are more people who are more informed than me about just how badly Unity has fucked not just everyone who used their game engine but also themselves. Even if they were to backpedal on this, they’ve lost the trust they have accumulated because they were blinded by greed. And the ones to truly suffer are not just the game devs who had been using Unity that knows they could never pay such absurd fees if it was to come to pass but also those employed by Unity to develop the game engine who have no say in whatever mindnumbing plans their bosses have, not those above who pushed for this. Also, there seemed to be some who believe that the CEO who thought it was a good idea to charge people for reloads in Battlefield when he was the CEO of EA (and that’s not even pointing at the fact that he sold his shares before they announced this) isn’t to blame for this situation but that this was pushed by the board members in Unity that are made up of… well… a majority of which are investment managers. There’s the whole “we won’t charge you if you use our ad monetization service” angle as well so, yeah, this is shaping up be the old “make a ridiculous offer first then start the bargaining until you get your actual target” schtick.
I don’t really have anything more to add to this other than the video game industry has the chance to fuck with those who only see the numbers right now but that would mean having a successful coordinated attack on Unity by (1) not using the engine anymore even when they try to backpedal and then (2) going “no deal” to all and every bargaining chip Unity brings to the table until they completely backpedal to remove all their planned bullshit and (3 – optional) even go as far as having the CEO step down (even if it seems he’s planning to raze the ground and run from the looks of it, not in the “I don’t give a shit anymore” kind of way but in a “Fuck you, board members, I’m out!” kind of way) and, even after they backpedal entirely, (4) everyone do not use Unity for any new games moving forward.
The main point is to give Unity a slow death all the while smacking into everyone’s faces that this is because of the lack of trust.
In this case…
A broken trust must not be repaired. Let it burn slowly until all that is left is ashes.
That would be a statement that those who are fueled by greed can understand if they are not idiots.
And a slow death would give the employees of Unity a chance to abandon ship but, even if this does happen like this, the casualties of this plan would fall on both the employees of Unity and the game developers who now have to learn a new game engine and/or port their games to another game engine. A slow death would minimize the casualties but it would mean more time for those on top to abandon ship. A quick death (find a way to plummet Unity’s stocks to the ground maybe? Idk) would hurt those on top as well but that would also mean more people would suffer as well.
In other words…
Killing Unity may prove to be the best course of action in the long run but there will be casualties and it won’t just be those who deserved it.
Sidebar: if you’re actually asking if any Ubisoft games would be affected by this and I just went on a rant by mistake, sorry about that, nonny, and no, they will not be affected. A lot (if not most) of AAA studios have their own game engine. The Assassin’s Creed series use Ubisoft Anvil which was developed as Scimitar for Altaïr’s Assassin’s Creed and Ubisoft has more game engines under them: Disrupt was created from the ground up for Watch_Dogs, Dunia is a modified version of Crytek’s CryEngine mainly used for Far Cry, and Snowdrop is codeveloped with Massive Entertainment and is used for… different games (The Division, Mario + Rabbids, South Park, etc). So yeah, if you’re worried about how this would affect Ubisoft, it won’t. The only game I could think of that may have been developed using Unity is AC Rebellion (the phone app) and I'm not even sure if it is developed using Unity. Ubisoft’s problem is most probably going to come from the potential SAG-AFTRA video game strike and we’re not sure if (1) the strike will happen and (2) if Ubisoft will be part of the struck companies as most articles only say “includes…” so it’s probably not the full list.

Hedy Lamarr, Movie Star and Inventor!
On This Day In History 1942 - American actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil received a patent for an electronic device that minimized the jamming of radio signals; it later became a component of satellite and cellular phone technology.
Lamarr shared her concept for using “frequency hopping” with the U.S. Navy and codeveloped a patent with Antheil 1941. Today, her innovation helped make possible a wide range of wireless communications technologies, including Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.
Although Lamarr had no formal training and was primarily self-taught, she tinkered in her spare time on various hobbies and ideas, which included an improved traffic stoplight and a tablet that would dissolve in water to create a flavored carbonated drink.
During World War II, Lamarr read that radio-controlled torpedoes had been proposed. However, an enemy might be able to jam such a torpedo's guidance system and set it off course. When discussing this with her friend the composer and pianist George Antheil, the idea was raised that a frequency-hopping signal might prevent the torpedo's radio guidance system from being tracked or jammed. Antheil succeeded by synchronizing a miniaturized player piano mechanism with radio signals. Antheil sketched out the idea for the frequency-hopping system, which was to use a perforated paper tape which actuated pneumatic controls (as was already used in player pianos).
Antheil was introduced to Samuel Stuart Mackeown, a professor of radio-electrical engineering at Caltech, whom Lamarr then employed for a year to actually implement the idea. Lamarr hired the Los Angeles legal firm of Lyon & Lyon to search for prior knowledge, and to craft the application for the patent which was granted as U.S. Patent 2,292,387 on August 11, 1942, under her married name Hedy Kiesler Markey.

For the last month and a half I’ve been codeveloping an otome game or #otomejam2022 called 3 Seasons!
The story follows Ivy (name/pronouns adjustable) as she attends a mysterious job interview, only to find herself whisked away to the elemental realm. There she meets 3 handsome men: the spirits in charge of Winter, Summer and Fall. Due to the Spring spirit's disappearance, she winds up taking over his tasks until his scheduled return. Will she manage to get closer to one of these interesting strangers in the short time they have together? 👀 That's up to you!
We hope to have these 3 routes in the game at launch at the end of June. Each route will have a romance ending and friendship ending. You can follow us for updates @ HamiltonHour on twitter!
