Day 19: Hungry
-please stop-
Super Dimentio cackles in delight as Mario tumbles from a swinging hand, feeling a crunch that has a trembling part of it finally still.
-don’t-
A finger twitches, but it doesn't prevent Paper Mario from getting a missile to the face, or Bowser tanking a headbutt as Peach dashes between its legs in hopes of attacking it from behind-
-you're... hurting them. stop-
Paper Peach is desperately keeping her ground as her parasol blocked projectiles, only to be sent careening back by Paper Bowser and Mario, who has been bodyslammed by a sliding shoe-
-stopsTOPITSTOPIT-
The entity cranes its head unnaturally as its eyes follow Peach, whose attacks simply bounce off.
"Useless."
It raises its hand-
And spasms.
It’s fighting with itself.
Mario would have thought it was just readying another attack, but-
The things arms seemed to wind themselves around the neck- squeezing as the rest of the body jerked in disjointed effort.
-STOPITSTOPITIWILLNOTLETYOU-
His head feels like it's splitting open- no one is shouting but the words are loud enough to feel them crashing into his skull.
"ha."
He looks up (when did he fall to his knees?) and sees the thing's face stretch into a crazed grin.
"hahaHAHAHA!" He hates how the laugh echoes in this place- how it sounds like Luigi but just. Not. "YOU REALLY THINK IT WOULD BE THAT EASY, LITTLE 'HERO'?" It wrenches its arms apart, making a crackling sound that sends Mario's stomach lurching.
The thing has its hands loom over him, now, and while it felt like another blow might end his game-
The hand snaps backward, fingers twisting behind the 'wrist' as the thing wails-
He can't help but feel hope.
"Lu-" He coughs and ignores the iron-tasting wetness clogging his mouth. "Luigi?"
It's not paying any attention to him, or anyone for that matter as the spasming sends it crashing to knees-
"no-NO-!"
The voice sounds nothing like Luigi, but also not like the thing.
"YOu- YOU- ArE NOT The SHowRunNer here-!"
"ShUt... UP!" The thing(?) screams- and shoves a gloved hand deep in its mouth.
It's disgusting to watch, especially as fluids start seeping out-
There's a squelch-
And there a jester is, wrapped in a darkening hand- frozen in shock. as the 'thing' seems to catch its breath.
Mario tries again. "Weegie?"
It's a split second, but he still feels unimaginable relief to see it- no, Luigi, it's Luigi- glance over to him with a tired but warm look.
And then his brother looks back at his hand-
And Mario tries to not feel fear when he sees that familiar face contort into something- dark.
He's never seen Luigi angry, nevermind whatever it is that he sees aimed at Dimentio (and it has to be him, especially as the jester seems to try to squirm out of its Luigi's grasp).
In his peripherals, he sees everyone else in their own state of anticipation, maybe hints of trepidation, and he couldn't blame them-
He wasn't expecting that expression to smooth out.
He definitely didn't expect Luigi's arm to condense with shadows and-
They spread down to his hands, bubbling around the wrist, up the hand-
And then Dimentio is screaming.
"nonoNONONONO- THIS IS NOT- NOT LIKE THIS-"
Mario isn't sure what to feel when he sees the figure get enveloped by those shadows-
The screaming cuts out.
He... feels horror. He hates that it's caused by Luigi. He feels like he's been dunked in an ice bath and left to dry in a freezer. Was that Luigi?
And did it matter, when he sees that towering figure tremble and shrink?
Did it matter when that figure starts to look less like that 'thing' and more like Luigi?
Did it matter when Luigi, and it is Luigi, he could hear his voice, see his face even if a bit lacking in color...
He doesn't hesitate to run towards him when he looks ready to keel over, doesn't flinch when he catches him and leads him down to the ground and into his arms-
He decides that it doesn't matter, when he hears his baby brother cry.
It doesn't even matter that he can feel Bowser approach in heavy steps, plopping down near them only to scoop them both in a hug.
It doesn't matter to him, not when the other half of his world seems to be breaking just the same as ever.
He just isn't sure what the others are feeling.
The sudden silence rings loudly in here.
Bowser would never say that he was scared.
With Luigi, he could say -with surety- that the Green Bean could never manage to scare him at all.
Strangely, even with the things that play out in front of him, he doesn't feel scared either. Not with the protective rage (something almost unrecognizable on that face) aimed at what used to be a threat.
He doesn’t give a damn that Luigi isn’t… the same, or that he’s technically hugging the red menace as well.
Luigi's fine- they're fine.
Everything's fine.
He-
He feels the way the brothers shift closer, yes, but also feels a colder hand reach above his upper plastron, patting around for something-
Oh.
He does his best to curl inwards, letting his muzzle nuzzle into Luigi's green-capped hair(?) and the searching hand does its best to curl around his head in a familiar hug.
...What does he feel then?
It's... something warm, maybe even hot, sitting in the bottom of his stomach. It flares up when Luigi calms down enough to pet his mane, nails scritching satisfyingly yet sending shivers down his spine.
He is... also tense? Bowser isn't nervous, or waiting for something, per say, but the world also feels strangely intense. He can feel his heart beating faster than usual, even though everything is done, and-
He stills, and is very grateful that neither human notices.
He'll deal with those feelings later.
Bowser is quick to stand up, lugging the two brothers up with him (he is smug to hear two startled yelps from that) and stomps over to the group of Paper versions and Peach.
He tries to not feel hungry.
The conversation with the Paper versions is... enlightening for Peach. And maybe them too, considering the thoughtful looks towards the unlikely pair huddled together with Mario.
For one, they are incredibly sure that -whatever Dimentio did- he hadn't bothered to keep tabs on their Luigi. If he wasn't this careless -or reckless- enough with the merge into 'Super Dimentio', there might have been a good chance of none of them surviving this.
Another is that Paper Bowser seems... stumped, realizing that his other version has fallen in love with someone who isn't Peach.
(She tries not to acknowledge the warning look Paper Mario shoots him with.)
Their last revelation is that whatever Dimentio did to summon the Chaos Heart this time hasn't ripped a hole in their reality.
It has also not really left.
Peeking back at the trio, coming closer due to Bowser, she is still off-put by the shock of white hair next to Mario's brown.
Never mind the lingering (but thankfully fading) pulses of emptiness that surround Luigi.
She's... not sure how to feel about Dimentio's... death? Is he even alive still, or was that truly...?
Regardless, they needed to go back. If not because of how unsure she is of this place's stability-
A stomach growls, and the only reason she knows it's from Luigi is becuase he shrinks into himself with a whine of embarrassment.
She tries really hard to not be incredulous, considering he just ate-
She is sure no one here has eaten since this morning...
How long have they been here?
She claps her hands together, startling everyone with the broken silence.
"Let's go home!"

Chapter 6
“We should get moving,” Peach said as she stood up and stretched. “We can start gathering some apples, bananas, and melons.”
The plumbers and mushroom man all got up and stretched as well.
“Shall we split up?” Mario asked.
“I think that would be good,” Peach responded. “I can go with Mario and Luigi can search with Toad. Sound good?”
“Sounds good to me,” Toad said nudging Mario and winking at him.
Mario looked at Toad with a raised brow.
“This means you get to have some alone time with the princess,” Toad whispered.
Mario shook his head. He will admit that he did find Peach to be beautiful and fun, but it’s not like she was romantically interested in him. He was sure she just saw him as a good friend. He decided he could live with that. Hard as it may be.
“Well, let’s get going,” Luigi said. “Times a wasting.”
“Mario and I will head north. You two take the south,” Peach pointed out to show directions.
“On it!” Toad said.
The four split up into to their assigned teams and began to search for the fruits previously mentioned.
“I really hope Y/N is doing okay,” Peach said to Mario as they trekked through rainforest like terrain. “I feel awful letting her get captured.”
“I’m sure she’s fine,” Mario said trying to comfort the princess. “We’ll get to her. I am worried too, but we can’t give up.”
“Right. I shouldn’t worry so much. Usually, it’s me who’s super hopeful with everything.”
“Well, even hopeful people can get down at times. That’s why it’s good to have others around you to help bring in some positivity,” Mario attempted in making the princess feel better.
She smiled, “You’re right. We’ll get her back. We got this.”
“That’s the spirit!”
The princess and plumber continued to chat about various topics until reaching a tree that had more apples than one could count for.
“Wow! Impressive!” Mario took in the tree with awe. Never had he seen so many apples. It was astounding to see such a tree produce so much fruit.
“Yep, pretty incredible.” Peach smiled, amused at Mario’s reaction. “Shall we start picking?”
“Yeah. Let’s get to it!” Mario said.
The two then began picking out some apples.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N sighed as she finished singing Almost Lover. She wiped her eyes of the tears that had cascaded down her face. Should she say something to Bowser about this whole songwriting being pointless? Could she endure what his reaction would be if she chose to say anything? She didn’t want to be in the same position as before. The grip he had on her when she was grabbed was strong. The claws from him could easily pierce her skin and she didn’t want to get such injuries.
She shook her head. She needed to keep herself safe until rescue arrived. She wanted to still believe that Mario, Peach, and the others would be coming to her aid. She wished they were already here, but she had to give them time. It can’t be easy storming a castle of this magnitude with many guards and troops at the ready. Plus, Bowser was very terrifying when he wanted to be. She was sure they were planning out some sort of strategy to get to her.
She annoyed herself with these repeating thoughts about Bowser. She felt like a broken record stuck on the same verse of a song. Then again though, what else was she supposed to ponder over? She liked the time spent with Bowser in the library and could see his soft side. She genuinely wanted him to be happy, but how was she supposed to express that when he could easily blow a fuse?
Perhaps, maybe it was best to let everything play out. She knew it would hurt him, but she just didn’t know what else to do. Maybe, if she waited for a certain moment to arrive, she could tell him. Part of her still wanted to tell him that he should move on. She wasn’t sure either on when the right moment would be. Maybe her gut feeling could help her out with that. Having learned her lesson that she should always listen to her gut feeling before, she could use that to her advantage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bowser was resting his eyes and concentrating on images of his Peaches. Her beautiful, long blond hair, dazzling blue eyes, and her pink dress that suit her perfectly. He smiled when seeing the image of the princess. He then pictured himself and her sitting outside, he plays his song on the piano, and she sits on top of the piano as he sings to her. She was smiling at him with tenderness as she took in his words. Bowser gazed up at her with glee in his red eyes.
The words and notes flowed with elegance as the scenery around them brought about serenity. The waterfall cascading and the gentle breeze brushing the blades of green grass helped to make the scenery that much more enchanting. The princess and king were locking eyes with one another and slowly leaning in. The turtle grew nervous, but excited as their faces inched closer to each other.
Suddenly, the image of Peach disappeared and changed into a different silhouette. The silhouette revealed itself to have (hair length and hair color) and (eye color) gazing at him with adoration. She sat upon the piano and smiled at Bowser. Y/N had once again made herself appear at the most inconvenient of times. Bowser opened his eyes and shook his head. He sighed irritably as the image of his princess was again replaced by his songwriter.
Maybe it was time for him to be rid of her? No. He couldn’t do that yet. He still needed her to play the hostage. Perhaps it was high time to treat her as a hostage once again by keeping her in a cage. Only this time, put her in a cage that is in his dungeon. Yes. That should do perfectly. He smirked to himself as he got up from his bed.
“Kamek!” He called out.
The wizard instantly appeared, “Yes Sire?”
“Bring the songwriter to the throne room. I have some details to discuss with her.”
“Yes, my King.” The wizard bowed and disappeared.
Bowser walked out of his room and made his way toward his throne room. He reached the room in no time. He sat down and waited for the wizard to return with the human.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knocking on the door startled Y/N out of her thoughts, “Uh yes, come in.”
The wizard opened the door, “His majesty is requesting your presence in the throne room.”
“Oh, okay.” Y/N got up from her bed and followed Kamek out of her room.
Both walked in silence to the throne room. There sitting in his chair was Bowser. Kamek brought Y/N up to him and then stood back.
“Songwriter, good to see you,” Bowser said as stood up.
“Um…good to see you too…” Y/N said feeling slightly awkward.
“Kamek, close the doors,” Bowser ordered his wizard.
“Right away Sire,” Kamek responded and did as his king told him.
“So, Y/N, I have something important to tell you. Before that, I was curious. Why could I hear you sounding like you were on the verge of tears earlier?” Bowser decided he would go ahead and ask her about that anyway.
Y/N’s eyes widened. She wasn’t expecting him to ask her that so suddenly. She didn’t even think he heard her, and he had. Her gut feeling came on, telling her she needs to tell him now. She was scared, but what was she supposed to do otherwise? She supposed, if he listened, she could intertwine it with her own personal experience in the matters of the heart.
“I uh…” Y/N took in a deep breath in and out, ‘Don’t be nervous.’ She calmed herself and began again, “I was thinking about a time I went through with heartbreak…”
Bowser was now intrigued, “What happened with that?”
“I was…played a fool. The guy I was with, I really liked him, and he didn’t like me in return. He deceived me. He acted like he really cared about me when in the end he didn’t. It was a joke to him.” Y/N’s eyes began to water a little bit.
Bowser took notice of this and decided to not interject for now.
“He was in love with someone else the whole time. He just used me on the side for entertainment. He wanted a good laugh for himself and with his friends. I fell for his act. I was blinded by my own infatuation of him that I couldn’t see what he was really doing.” Y/N sputtered, and the tears came crashing down.
Bowser was feeling heavy now for Y/N. How horrible to be used in that way and yet, here he was using her. Granted, not for the same thing, but still using her…he had to follow through though. He had to for the sake of his sanity. He wanted Peaches to be at his side forever. He didn’t want Y/N to interfere.
Y/N calmed her crying down, “Bowser I…” This was it. She had to say something to him now. “What happened to me, I don’t want to happen to you. I know how you feel about the princess, but it’s not worth it to have your heart broken. You know how the princess feels about you-“
“The princess is not like that guy from your past! She will fall in love with me, and my heart will not be broken!” Bowser roared. He was determined to have his Peaches by his side.
Y/N, stunned from the yelling for a few seconds, recovered, “It’s worthwhile to go after someone who genuinely feels the same as you. I don’t want to see you hurt. The princess will never feel the way you do for her.”
Bowser’s eyes glowed in rage with a fire of fury, “Just because you had that heartbreak doesn’t mean I will have that heartbreak. My ending will not be like yours. Mine will be happy and joyful, not sad, and miserable.”
Y/N was trembling. She had told him what she wanted to and yet, it didn’t make a difference. Of course, one must choose what to do for themselves. One can say as much as they want to, but at the end of day, the person in question must decide on what they will do. She had just hoped that maybe he would consider her words, but this was a moment meant for daydreams only.
Bowser once again felt heavy for speaking to Y/N in such a way, but he had to follow through on his plans, “I have decided to put you in the dungeons. You will play your part as I had originally intended for you. The part of the hostage. Kamek will take you to your new lodgings now.”
Y/N gasped as she looked up at him with sadness. Why? Why did he have to harden his heart? She thought maybe he was trying to be better, maybe he would see what she was getting at, but it all seemed to be a lie. She put her head down and Kamek, using his magic, bound her wrists together in chains behind her back.
“Get her out of my sight,” Bowser spoke coldly.
“Yes Sire,” Kamek responded. He then transported himself and Y/N out of the throne room.
Bowser walked back to his chair and sat down. Now that he had put Y/N in the dungeons and would begin to treat her as a hostage, he felt he could really focus on what was important. Making Princess Peach his and making her see that he could give her everything and more. He closed his eyes and imagined his princess once again. He wanted to present the song to her very soon. He would have to plan to travel to the Mushroom Kingdom shortly.
Wait a second…with Y/N playing hostage, he could just let the princess come to him. Now that he thought about it, he was sure that Peaches along with those pesky plumbers were on their way here. Yes. Let his love come to him and he had the perfect bait. Y/N. He could then have the princess come with him to the music room where he would sing his heart to her. After that, Peaches will fall in love with him, and he would get another shot at his fairytale wedding.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“How about these bananas? They look good,” Toad asked holding them up to Luigi.
“Yeah, I think those would be alright,” Luigi said.
“You know that Mario likes the princess, right?” Toad asked as he put a few bananas into his backpack.
“I do. I’ve told him before he should just tell her. I think she may feel the same way. Why pair us off together and her and my brother together otherwise?”
“Exactly! We should try to set them up on a date after we get Y/N back!”
Luigi chuckled, “I agree with you. I think my brother needs it.”
“I think so too. How about you. Anyone in your life?” Toad asked.
“Uh, not really…I mean, I haven’t exactly dated a whole lot myself. I would like to find a nice woman and settle down one day though. Just haven’t met the right girl yet.” Luigi felt a bit embarrassed.
“Hmm…I wonder…” Toad had an idea for Luigi but didn’t want to say it yet.
“Huh? Wonder what?” The plumber asked.
“Ah nothing to worry about now. C’mon, let’s head on back to Mario and the princess. I think we have a good amount of food,” Toad said.
Luigi gave the mushroom man a suspicious look but decided to play along, “Alright. Yeah, we have enough food.”
The two made their way back to the area they had stayed at earlier and waited for the other plumber and princess to return. Luigi sat down against the tree trunk and Toad joined him.
“So, what about you Toad? Dating?” Luigi decided to pop the question back at the mushroom man.
“Na. No interest right now. Plus, it is hard to find a female among so many males in the Mushroom Kingdom,” Toad answered.
“Ah, yeah, that is tough,” Luigi agreed. He did see many more males than females when having been through the Mushroom Kingdom.
The two decided to rest their eyes while waiting for Mario and Peach to return.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You think that the kongs will really be okay with riding on Yoshies?” Mario asked.
“I would like to think so. If not, I know the Yoshies could still help us out and the kongs can bring whatever is easier for them,” Peach replied.
“Yeah, that’s true. Hey, want to bring this melon along?” Mario held up a big melon.
“That one looks good. Let’s take it,” Peach said as she inspected it. “I think we have enough food for now and I’m sure Luigi and Toad found a good amount.”
“I think so too,” Mario agreed.
The two made their way back to the tree they had taken shelter at earlier to find Luigi and Toad sleeping.
“As much as I don’t want to disturb them, we need to get a move on,” Peach said.
“They’ll understand,” Mario replied.
The princess and plumber in red made their way over to the plumber in green and mushroom man.
Mario put a hand on his brother’s shoulder, “Hey Lu, wake up. We need to get going.”
Luigi groggily opened his eyes and looked up at his brother, “Okay.” He slowly got up and stretched his limbs.
“Toad, time to get up,” Peach said as she lightly shook the mushroom man by his shoulder.
“H-Huh?” Toad slowly opened his eyes and looked up at the princess. He got up and stretched.
After Luigi and Toad had finished stretching, the four of them talked about how they were going to lure the Yoshies to them. They wanted to each catch a Yoshi and then make their way to the Jungle Kingdom before it got too dark out. They all decided to stick together to catch the Yoshies.
They each set up a trail of the various fruits and hid in some nearby bushes waiting for some Yoshies to come up to the delicious looking fruit. The waiting wasn’t too long. Soon, 6 Yoshies came up to the trail and began eating some of the fruit. The Yoshies were pink, yellow, red, blue, purple, and green. The four friends slowly walked out from behind the bushes and carefully made their way over to the occupied Yoshies.
Peach carefully made her way over to the pink one, gently petting it and picking up an apple to feed it to the Yoshi. The Yoshi was startled but calmed down and ate the fruit the princess was offering.
“That’s it. We won’t hurt you. We need your help,” Peach spoke in a calm voice. “Would you please help us?”
The pink Yoshi nodded in agreement and lowered itself so that the princess could climb onto its back. The princess sat down on the red like saddle the Yoshi had and held onto the back of it. She waited for the plumbers and mushroom man to get a Yoshi.
Mario, spotting the red one, quietly crept up behind it picking up a banana along the way. He tried doing what he had seen Peach do by gently petting it and offering the banana to the Yoshi.
“Hey there Yoshi. We really need your help,” Mario said in a relaxed voice. “Would you please aid my friends and I?”
The red Yoshi looked at Mario in question and nodded. It ate the banana from Mario’s hand and lowered itself down. Mario got up onto the red Yoshi.
“This is sort of like riding a horse,” Mario said as he was steadying himself.
“Riding a horse?” Peach asked.
“Oh. Guess you haven’t seen horses. They’re tall and they have saddles you sit on to ride them. They are taller than the Yoshies. I could show you a picture of a horse later,” Mario replied.
“So, it sounds like you have done horseback riding before?”
“Eh, not really. Lu and I knew someone who did horseback riding before, and we had watched him perform a few stunts in a big competition with his horse. Pretty tricky stuff.”
“Sounds like it, but it does sound interesting.”
“Well, come back to our world and maybe we can take you to one of those shows.”
“Including riding lessons?”
Mario rubbed his hand on the back of his head, “Uh sure…the lessons aren’t cheap though. They are expensive to get. Maybe we could work something out with that friend of ours…”
Peach smiled, “That would be great!”
“I’ll see what we can do later then,” Mario said smiling back at the princess.
Luigi and Toad eventually got onto their Yoshies. Luigi chose the green one while Toad chose the yellow one. The blue and purple Yoshies had left after getting more of their fill from the fruit left on the trail.
“Looks like we’re ready to go,” Peach said.
“I think so,” Luigi responded.
“Alright. To the Jungle Kingdom!” Toad said excitedly.
The princess began leading the way and the other three followed her. The sun was nearing dusk, but Peach could tell that they were still making good time and would arrive at the Jungle Kingdom soon.
‘We’ll get you away from Bowser soon Y/N. Just hang on,’ Peach thought as she and the others continued riding the Yoshies.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“In you go,” Kamek said as he lightly pushed Y/N into the cell. The two had entered a dungeon covered with stones.
Y/N stumbled a bit but remained on her feet.
The wizard closed the large steel bar door and locked it.
Y/N watched the wizard walk away and crumpled to the stone floor beneath her. The place was cold and dreary. She was heartbroken. Bowser was using her just as she should’ve expected. Of course, she knew he wanted her to help him out, but still. When she had been with him in the library, it was so nice to see the kind side of him. She was hoping that maybe slowly the king of the koopas was changing.
He had once again done a 180 on her. He acted aggressive and uncaring toward her. She was nothing more than a tool for him to use against the princess. Y/N could tell that he was going to force the princess to love him. She shook her head. Of course, he wasn’t going to listen to her. He would learn his lesson the hard way then. She hated being cuffed up. The cuffs were beginning to irritate her skin. She knew she was slowly getting angry red marks on her wrists.
Y/N sighed and scooted herself over to sit against the stone wall behind her. She leaned her head up, staring at the stone ceiling. She was tired. So tired of being thrown around from one place to another. Being told to stay in a cage like a bird, next being treated better, then going into a dungeon. Why couldn’t she be locked up in the room she was given?
Oh. Right. Because Bowser wanted to treat her as a hostage. No duh Y/N. She closed her eyes and decided to try and think about the happier times in her life. Her life hadn’t been all bad. There were some good moments. It was wonderful getting the opportunity to do a job she enjoyed and live in a new place. While scary, it was exciting. She got to meet Mario and Luigi who were so nice and kind to her.
Meeting Peach and Toad was fun as well. She appreciated how much they took their time with showing her around the Mushroom Kingdom and the castle. Getting to sing one of her favorite songs for her friends was nice too. The jewelry and dresses that the princess had in her castle were gorgeous. Y/N smiled over these memories and next thought about her family.
How grateful she felt to have a loving mother, father, and sister. They all had done so much for her, and she appreciated that. She hoped that she would be able to see everyone again. She was grateful too for the people from her job. Her coworkers were wonderful and fun to work with. Though she hadn’t been with them long, they all showed her so much kindness and care. It’s always fun to go to work when you can work with people who are a joy to be around.
Y/N opened her eyes and stared at the bars in front of her. She didn’t like being caged up again. She decided that she would no longer try to do anything for Bowser in terms of helping him with his heart. If he wants his heart broken, so be it. She had already tried to say everything she could to him, and he didn’t want to take it. She would instead hope that he would truly learn his lesson through this heartbreak and decide to do better for himself later.
She wanted to try and go back to thinking about happier times in her life. She once again closed her eyes and let some of her fun childhood memories play in her mind.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bowser had left his throne room to practice more of his song for Peaches. He played each note with care and sang with as much love as he could. Peaches is the only person who can make him happy. He smiled as he looked at the picture of the princess in pink. He couldn’t wait to look at her in person, not having to stare at a photograph anymore. His heart swelled with excitement at that thought.
The scenery in the music room had reflected the scene he wanted to use for the princess. The waterfall, grassy field and the moon shining brightly. It was a perfect setting. As cliché as it was, the king did not care. He wanted his confession to be like that of a fairytale too besides having his wedding be like that. He would work hard on making all of this come true. After he played his song and after Peaches said she felt the same, he would ask her again to marry him.
The princess would be delighted and say yes, giving him a big smooch. She would wear a different dress from the one he had her wear last time. It would be elegant and fit her in all the right places. It would be white, but it would be more decorative too. Not overly so, but just enough to show off intricate details while still being elegant.
She would walk up the aisle toward him and he would be dazzled at her appearance. Her hair would be done up and decorated with flowers. Her veil would be white covering her face and go to about mid back. She would have a train with her dress extending out a few inches. She would wear a necklace of matching flowers and earrings. Her shoes would be made of glass and high heeled with a flower on top of them. She would literally take his breath away. The perfect image of a beautiful bride.
Bowser got giddy thinking over all of that. As he smiled, someone else made an appearance in his mind. Someone he wished would disappear completely from his thoughts. Y/N. His heart felt annoyed and yet heavy. He will not deny that he enjoyed the time they had together in his library, but she is not the love of his life. Why was he feeling almost melancholy towards her? Because of what he said? Because of what he did to her? He knew he shouldn’t be questioning himself this way. He knew the answers.
He knew he had to do them. If he didn’t, she would continue to plague his mind. Yet, even as he did everything, she still invaded him. How he hated that she showed up whenever he would try to picture his precious Peaches! Y/N was getting the way of everything! Even his mentality! He can’t get rid of her yet. She still needed to be the hostage.
Bowser growled irritably. Why had he gone so soft on her in the library? Why had he done the playful the banter? Why did he find her cute? Why did he find her voice beautiful? Why is he asking himself all these questions?! He roared and slammed the lid of the piano case. He knew all these answers. He didn’t want to admit it, but…he couldn’t deny it to himself. He did have a fondness for Y/N. He was hurting because he hurt her.
His stubbornness wouldn’t allow him to express that fondness to Y/N any longer. He wanted to focus on the princess just as he originally planned. He had to. He didn’t want to do things any other way. Yet…this lingering feeling of…what was it? Regret? It filled him up. He knew he shouldn’t have treated Y/N the way he did…but it’s too late now. She probably despises him at this point. He should be happy with that because he could then get his priorities straight. However, deep down inside…he couldn’t focus.
What was he to do with his mentality, his thoughts on Y/N? Did he want Y/N to…have fondness of him too?

okay this is really random but I can't find a series of fics that I read a few months ago & I'm listening to the music edit I made for them because I like it.
I believe it was a short series of fics on fanfiction.net that had the Luigi's Mansion series story told through an EAS in the Mushroom Kingdom, & the reader lived in the kingdom & got updates through this EAS. There were different endings for each game, & one of the bad ones had this theme (below) playing on the television (the Mushroom Kingdom's anthem) in a slower, solemn tone, as it was the last thing that would be broadcasted before the kingdom was either completely taken over by boos & koopas, or there was widespread death.
I've been looking for them again & am having the damndest time trying to find them. Do these sound familiar to anyone?

Decided to do Domain for 3's USB and Forum for 4's USB since Domain goes better with 3's USB's more stern nature! Hope that's okay anon :D
○●○
Uh.. do you have a name? Lil Coding asks, looking up at 3's USB.
The hologram pauses before shaking its head. No. Neither of us has ever had a need for a name, little code.
It smiles. Then you should have a name! It'll be good to have one!
3's USB frowns. We don't really need them.
But it'd be nice of you to have one! Lil Coding argues before sitting back on the USB's, thinking.
It watches as 4's USB attends to its fathers, wrapping up their wounds and repairing broken code. Mario and Luigi were awake, but considering neither had had their coffee yet, Lil Coding was pretty sure they were going to fall back asleep with everyone else.
We can call you Domain! it brightens and points at 3's USB, then pointing to 4's. And we can call you Forum!
Both USBs looked down at it, an emotion close to bewilderment on their faces. The two look back at each other and seem to silently communicate something before 3's USB relents.
Very well. You can call me Domain, and you can call.. him Forum.
Finally taking Meggy's advice, hm? Forum teases, a grin on his face. I thought we were simply USBs, Domain!
Shut your mouth. Domain rolls its eyes before pausing. It hesitates before sighing. He looks down at Lil Coding and smiles. You are quite convincing, little one.
Lil Coding smiles up at him. Yeah!
No wonder you're SMG4's and SMG3' son. Forum muses, not looking up from wrapping a gash on 3's arm.
It stops.
It looks down at its paw.
And he smiles. Yeah. I guess I really am, huh?
OUGH..... . THEY GOT NAMES YOUR HONOUR¡!!!!!!!!¡!¡

Italian- British Egyptologist Luigi Prada on divination in ancient Egypt (with a reference to Herodotus as source on this subject)
“Dreams, rising stars, and falling geckos: divination in ancient Egypt
Moving on from a neglected discovery by the EES, Luigi Prada leads us into the little-known world of ancient Egyptian divination and its practitioners. In addition to popular techniques such as dream interpretation and astrology, we discover that the ancient Egyptians enquired after their future also through the behaviour of animals, the occurrence of thunder, and several other natural phenomena.
Between 1964 and 1976, the excavations of the Egypt Exploration Society at the Sacred Animal Necropolis in North Saqqara produced such an overwhelming wealth of finds that scholars are still busy researching and publishing them today, half a century later (see Heinz and Vander Wilt in EA 49). But even when promptly published, some of the results of this fieldwork have remained virtually unknown outside specialist circles. This is the case with the archive of Hor of Sebennytos, an Egyptian priest who lived in the second century BC ...Like several of his fellow priests, one of Hor’s leading interests and activities was oneiromancy – that is, dream interpretation.
Dreams were always an object of fascination for the ancient Egyptians (and many other ancient societies as well). In the liminal dimension of slumber, it was believed that direct communication with the divine and the netherworld would be possible. A particularly famous example of such a divine encounter is narrated in the so-called Dream Stela of Thutmosis IV (c. 1400 BC), which still stands between the front paws of the Great Sphinx at Giza... This Eighteenth Dynasty-inscription tells how the young prince Thutmosis, having fallen asleep by the monument, sighted in a dream the god Harmakhis-Khepri-Re-Atum, with whom the Sphinx was identified at the time. The god asked the prince to clear his statue of the sands that had covered it and restore it to its ancient splendour, in exchange for which he would grant him the throne of Egypt. Clearly a piece of post-eventum political propaganda, this stela nevertheless exemplifies the special regard in which dreams were held.
Tumblr media
Dream Stela of Thutmosis IV. In a specular scene above the hieroglyphic text, the king gives offerings to the Sphinx, identified with the god Harmakhis.
It is particularly in the Graeco-Roman Period, however, that we witness an exponential rise in the textual and material evidence related to dreams. Accounts of dreams were increasingly recorded on papyri or ostraca, as in the case of Hor of Sebennytos’ archive. Dreams still featured in formal texts as well, such as the exquisite funerary stela of Taimhotep in the British Museum... The wife of Pasherenptah, High Priest of Ptah in Memphis during the reign of the famous  Cleopatra VII, Taimhotep recounts in her autobiography how, after having three daughters, she and her husband prayed to Imhotep, the son of Ptah, that a male heir be granted to them. The god listened to their prayers, appearing in a ‘revelation’, asking for works to be carried out in his temple in returnfor his intercession.

Ostracon Hor 3 verso. Line 22 includes the first mention of Rome in an Egyptian text, with regard to the Roman ultimatum that put an end to the Syrian invasion of Egypt in 168 BC
Focus: Hor of Sebennytos Hor of Sebennytos was a priest active in the Memphite necropolis in the first half of th e2nd century BC. His archive, published in 1976 and consisting of approximately 70 ostraca – i.e. inscribed potsherds – written mostly in Demotic, gives an account of his daily occupations and preoccupations. The topics dealt with in these texts, which are mainly personal notes and drafts of documents, include the cult of the ibises and their mummies, oracles and dreams. Some of them also have historical relevance, as they relate important political events seen from a humble priest’s perspective. Such is the case of text no. 3, where Hor records a prophetic dream that he had at the time of the Sixth Syrian War (170–168 BC), when Egypt was occupied by the enemy forces of Antiochus IV, King of Syria, and the Ptolemaic dynasty seemed to be on the verge of collapse. In this dream, Hor saw that, despite all odds, Egypt and the Ptolemies would be saved – as, in fact, they were in the summer of 168 BC, when Antiochus peacefully withdrew from Egypt after receiving an ultimatum from Egypt’s (then) mighty ally: the Roman Republic.
But the importance of dreams was not limited to those featuring divine epiphanies. Dreams of a trivial or even haphazard content could also be considered potential vehicles of hidden messages about a person’s future. An entire science was developed for interpreting such dreams and unravelling their hidden messages. To call dream interpretation a science may sound at odds with modern Western concepts of superstition, but applying our modern views to the study of ancient Egyptian oneiromancy would be grossly inappropriate. Very much like medical or legal texts, dream (and, generally, divination) books belonged to scribal and temple libraries, being a prerogative of the learned. Dream  interpretation handbooks, also known as oneirocritica, are the best- and longest-attested type of divinatory literature from Egypt. The earliest known such manuscript is P. (= papyrus) Chester Beatty 3... Now in the British Museum, it comes from the village of Deir el-Medina and dates to the time of Ramesses II (13th century BC). It originally belonged to the scribe Qenherkhepshef, whose preoccupations with sleep are further attested from other items once in his possession... Each line of this manuscript contains a description of a dream with its defining features and its interpretation, setting out what would befall the dreamer or his relations. Thus, in its col. 2/21, we read: ‘If a man sees himself in a dream eating donkey-meat: good, it indicates his promotion’. Almost one and a half millennia later, in Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt, dream books still thrived, and are attested in larger numbers than ever. Handbooks of the kind that Hor himself may have used are now divided into a myriad of chapters, each dedicated to a different topic:  dreams about sex, about drinking, about animals... – basically any topic one could think (and thus dream) of. Within each chapter, individual dreams are still listed line by line, followed by their interpretation. Thus, within the section discussing sex-related dreams in P. Carlsberg 13, a manuscript from 2nd century AD- Tebtunis, a town in the Fayum, one may find: ‘If (a woman dreams that) a snake has sex with her: (it indicates that) she will find herself a husband. (But) if she is (already) married, she will become ill’ (frag. b, col.2/27–28)

Stela of Taimhotep, BM EA 147. Line 8 gives the reason for Taimhotep’s distress and her praying for Imhotep’s intervention
Below: Papyrus Chester Beatty 3, BM EA 10683. Colums 8-11 recto: note the elaborate layout of this dream book
Bottom: funerary headrest of Qenherkhepshef, BM EA 63783. The object’s funerary use, associating slumber with death,  clearly transpires from the hieroglyphic inscription, which mentions “a good sleep in the West (=the netherworld) and is surrounded by apotropaic figures.
But how did this science operate? How are the dreams and their respective interpretations matched? A rationale is indeed present, though at times not easily detectable. In the dream quoted above, the explanation is based on a (wholly Freudian!) association, assimilating the snake with a phallus and, therefore, with the image of a male partner. As for the dream from P. Chester Beatty 3, the coupling is instead based not on analogy of image or content, but of sound – namely, on wordplay as the words for ‘donkey’ (Egyptian ΄a΄a) and ‘promotion’ (Egyptian s΄a΄a) sounded alike
That divination was a particularly serious matter in Graeco-Roman times is also suggested by the concrete business that stood behind it. Not only Egyptian priests like Hor were active as dream interpreters: in the same area of Memphis, Greek-language soothsayers, too, were at work, interpreting dreams and advertising their skills to the increasing number of Greek residents in Egypt. One, who probably lived shortly before Hor, left behind what we may call his own ‘shop-sign’, where, in Greek, he boasts that ‘I interpret dreams, having (this talent) as an order from the god. With good luck! This interpreter comes from Crete’...
Tumblr media
Business sign of a Cretan dream interpreter, CGC 27567. The decoration mixes Egyptian and classical styles. Underneath the Greek text is an image of the Apis bull, worshipped in the Serapeum at Saqqara, just a short distance from where this item was discovered.
But divination was far from limited to oneiromancy. In the fifth century BC, the Greek historian Herodotus included divination amongst the inventions of the Egyptians, saying that they had discovered ‘more omens than all other peoples’ (II.82). He was not exaggerating: many other mantic arts were practiced by the Egyptians since at least the New Kingdom, with their number and popularity steadily increasing in Graeco-Roman times. For instance, from Ramesside Deir el-Medina and now preserved in Turin’s Museo Egizio, we have fragments of a manuscript that illustrates the practice of lecanomancy (GCT54065). This is a way of foretelling the future that uses a dish or bowl filled with water. As described in the papyrus, oil was poured on the water, and the resulting patterns and shapes formed by the floating blobs were the signs to be interpreted. Remarkably, both lecanomancy and dream interpretation were already associated with Egypt by other ancient civilisations, and are for instance featured in the Biblical story of Joseph and his brothers.
Another Nineteenth Dynasty hieratic papyrus, also from Deir el-Medina and now in Turin (CGT 54024), deals with meteorological omens, including thunder – a divinatory technique known as brontoscopy. The same art was still practiced a millennium later, in Ptolemaic times: an unprovenanced Demotic papyrus in the Cairo Egyptian Museum (inv. RT 4/2/31/1-SR 3427) lists and interprets very similar omens, also in connection with the occurrence of a ‘voice-of-Seth’ (as thunder was called in Egyptian). One passage mentions perhaps the oddest scenario: thunder accompanied by shower sof… frogs (col. 1/11: ‘if a voice-of-Seth occurs and it [literally, the sky] rains frogs…’) – not entirely impossible in the wake of tornadoes and similar violent weather events!
Amongst the various branches of divination and equal only to oneiromancy, pride of place was certainly given to astrology – a relative late comer in the world of Egyptian divination,  following increased contacts with the Near East in the 1st millennium BC, particularly after the Assyrian and Persian invasions of Egypt. From the Graeco-Roman Period, a wealth of Demotic material, still largely unpublished, includes various types of documents related to astrology. First come astrological handbooks, which fall into two categories: manuals of universal astrology, interpreting the relative position of the celestial bodies in order to foretell the fate of entire countries and peoples; and handbooks of individual astrology, foretelling a person’s future based on the position of the celestial bodies at their time of birth, with respect to various divisions of the sky (including our twelve zodiacal signs, as well as other partitions known a sastrological ‘houses’). Thus, in one of the manuals of the latter type, the Demotic P. Berlin P. 8345 (from the Fayum, 1st or 2nd century AD), we can read, with regard to a man who was born ‘when Venus was in the descendant: he will quarrel much with a woman; a nasty reputation will come to him…’ (col. 2/5–7). Through such handbooks, the ancient Egyptian priests could cast life horoscopes for their customers. Working papers of these astrologers, i.e. jottings on ostraca and scraps of papyrus containing horoscopes, also survive in good numbers.
Yet another type of text, planetary tables, were essential to cast any horoscope – a kind of text that, from our modern perspective,we would classify as astronomical, rather than astrological. Such tables were painstakingly accurate numerical records of the exact dates when the celestial bodies entered specific zodiacal signs, and could extend over very long periods, years and years into the past, so as to allow an astrologer to look up the position of the planets at the time of their customer’s birth, no matter how far in the past this was, and thus cast their horoscope. A fine example are the so-called Stobart Tablets...,probably from Thebes and dating to the mid-or late second century AD. Now in the World Museum, Liverpool, they are thin wooden tablets covered with a layer of gesso and inscribed with Demotic, containing exhaustive information about planetary movements spanning the reigns of the emperors Vespasian (69–79 AD) to Hadrian (117–138 AD).
Tumblr media
One of the Stobart Tablets, M 11467d recto. Red headings indicate years (here, regnal years14–17 of Hadrian, i.e.129/130–132/133 AD).Following each heading are five cells, one per planet, separated by horizontal lines, listingt he date (month and day) on which the planet in question entered the different zodiacal signs during that year. In the first two columns (fromt he right, as Demotic reads right to left),after ‘regnal year 14’(col. 1, line 16), we find sections for Saturn (lines 17–19), Jupiter (lines 20–22), Mars (lines 23–33), Venus (col. 2, lines 1–16), and Mercury (lines 17–30)
This brief introduction to ancient Egyptian divination cannot be considered complete before at least one further branch of divination is mentioned: that dealing with so-called animal omens, for which Demotic handbooks are attested specifically from the Roman Period. In this case, the omen to decipher was the behaviour of various animals – in most cases, their interaction or physical contact with a human observer, who was the target of the omen. The animals in question could be highly disparate, ranging from cows to dogs, from scorpions to shrewmice. Most typically, however, small animals seem to have been the favourite subject of this genre, for the simple reason that daily contact with creatures such as shrewmiceand the like, found in all Egyptian houses, wouldhave been the norm for everybody.
Just like astrology manuals, animal omen handbooks can also be roughly classified into two groups: those divided into chapters, each discussing omens pertaining to a different creature, and those entirely dedicated to one single animal. To the latter group belongs the fascinating Book of the Gecko thus titled in the original papyrus preserving it, P. Berlin P.15680, possibly from the 1st-century-AD Fayum. Geckos were as common in ancient Egypt as they are in the region today, where they can often be observed crawling on walls and ceilings. These lizards are such extraordinary climbers that their accidental fall must surely have caught the ancient Egyptians’ attention – to the point of being considered an omen. This is why all lines of the Book of the Gecko with the phrase ‘if it (i.e. a gecko) falls’, followed by the specifics of its mishap. These can include a woman’s body parts onto which the gecko would land, systematically listed from head to toe. Thus we read:
If it falls on her right breast: her heart will be greatly distressed, she should entrust herself to the god. If it falls on her left breast: she will be pleased within her family, many sons will be born to her. If it falls in between her breasts: she will fare very well, something from Pharaoh will quickly reach her (col. 2/2-4))
The handbook further proceeds by describing more elaborate situations in which a gecko may unwittingly partake, such as: ‘If it falls on a woman who is having sex: she will rejoice, she will rejoice anew over this same year’ (col. 3/21).
Many more divinatory arts are attested fromancient Egypt – far more than could be presented in this short article. What this brief introduction will have hopefully achieved is not only to introduce the reader to the world of ancient Egyptian divination, but also to give a better awareness of how much we are still discovering and learning, to this day, about the ways of ancient Egyptian life. Be it by excavations like those conducted by the EES in Saqqara, leading to the unearthing of the archive of Hor, or the product of “museum archaeology”, bringing about the publication of papyri previously lying neglected in museum collections, these discoveries are unlikely to cease any time soon, further deepening our understanding of ancient Egypt’s past through the way its inhabitants tried to read their own future.”

gaming anon again. here's how i think ben would react to some games (disclaimer. he would be forced to play some)
animal crossing: "so boring. why do they talk like that? do they ever shut up? can i leave? can i make everyone leave and have the island for myself?" would hate tom nook with passion probably
mario: he would find it absurd at first but somehow get engaged. if someone points it out he would deny it of course
stardew valley: like animal crossing. would quit playing the first 5 seconds
the sims 4: "so.... i need to constantly tell my character what they need to do? are they stupid or something?" would probably ragequit or accidentally make his sim die over something dumb. i think he would try to put a bunch of them on a pool and remove the stairs, finding the situation funny but only the 1st time. after that he wouldn't touch the game ever again
any rpg game: would skip cutscenes and dialogue. his way of playing is spamming attacks over and over again just to be done with the game already
pokemon: wouldn't care about the league or pokedex. he only wants to catch the coolest pokemon and close the game forever. if his rival is mean to him he would continue the storyline only to beat them in every battle
zelda: ok i think he would find himself enjoying the games. any of them. at first he wouldn't care but as he gets further in the story, he gets more interested. his favorites would be twilight princess or ocarina of time.
minecraft: "why is everything made of squares? it doesn't make sense.." would enjoy killing every mob he sees.
OOC ::
omg hello again gaming anon, fancy seeing you here.
He does not have the attention span for animal crossing. As an AC player, it does get a bit boring after a while, especially when it comes to AC New Horizons, and the fact that in the newer games the animals are so nice and don't insult people like they used to that would piss him the fuck off so much. Same with Stardew Valley. I won't lie, I struggled to get into it and find it boring, and I definitely know he would. That shit would get turned off after the first five minutes.
I think he'd be alright with Mario but as the difficulties get harder, the more he'd end up rage quitting because at the end of the day, he is an old man. Unless it was Mario Kart... Fuuuuuuuuuck, he'd be so competitive to the point where it's just not worth playing with him anymore. I do see him hating Mario as a character JUST BECAUSE he can't play anything other than Mario Kart.
As for The Sims 4, I can't lie, reading the fact that this is Sims 4 in specific has me triggered bc it's sooooo shit compared to the other 3, EA fumbled BIG TIME with that one. But regardless, I genuinely see Hughie giving him Sims 2 to play because it's a game he personally likes because of how detailed it is. So, he sits him down in front of the PC and boots it up. He shows him how to use Create A Sim and Ben eventually creates himself after spending AGES going through outfits, he then lies about his personality traits, gets annoyed at the Turn On and Turn Off options and that's it. Once he's chosen a house and the game starts, he thinks it's pointless, simply doesn't get it. And once Hughie tells him he can torture his sim and kill him, he actively goes out of his way to make that sim suffer and the same goes for any other sim that dares to cross his lot.
But yeahhhh RPG would bore him in the end. It's no fun if all you have to do is spam one button - and that is why he HATES nintendo games, ESPECIALLY Luigi's Mansion and Peach's new game. That's it, he's never playing anything like that again.
Honestly, I've never played a Zelda game in my life, so I have no real opinions of how he'd view it, so I'll take your word for it because it would be nice to see him enjoy SOMETHING. And with Pokemon, I see where you're going with that one. Losing would bug him like hell, even when he's no longer playing the game anymore. He'd put down the DS or Switch and will be STILL triggered.
I think with Minecraft, he would definitely kill mobs for the fun of it, he would actively seek them out, but then would lose it when he dies because he's lost his stuff. He's that type of person that doesn't give a shit about a map or keeping a note of his current coordinates. But I think the building wouldn't interest him as much and the combinations for crafting would confuse him because he'd not remember then and start getting annoyed.

Computer Programming
Computer Programming involves tasks such as analysis, generating algorithms, profiling algorithms' accuracy and resource consumption, and the implementation of algorithm.
I personally like Computer Programming because I just like to code and be on a computer the whole time(although my mom keeps scolding me all day).
A computer program consists of code that is executed on a computer to perform particular tasks. This code is written by programmers.
Programming is the process of giving machines a set of instructions that describe how a program should be carried out. Programmers will spend their whole careers learning a variety of programming languages and tools so they can effectively build computer programs.
Many historians believe Ada Lovelace was the first to create a published computer program in the mid 19th century. She was a mathematician who translated Luigi Federico Menabrea's writings on the Analytical Engine.
In this translation, Ada had added her own extensive notes and created a method for calculating Bernoulli numbers for the Analytical Engine.
The work of mathematician Alonzo Church as well as the Turing machine were the first introductions of computer codes.
In the 1920's, computers were created which was followed by the earliest programming languages. For the next century, as machines and technology continued to evolve, so did the number of programming languages
When i grow up I want to become a Software Engineer, i wanna work in big game developing companies like EA,Epic Games,Insomniac etc.

Nicholas McDonnell, the managing director of Melbourne-based games studio Samurai Punk, relished the chance to reconnect with fellow game developers and a devoted fan base following the pandemic lockdowns. He said the city’s games industry has changed significantly over the last decade as major companies such as EA (The Sims, FIFA) and Sledgehammer Games (Call of Duty) expanded to Melbourne and the sector became more “competitive”. “Everyone is still really collaborative and also supportive – we want to help each other succeed,” he said. “This PAX, in particular, we just needed it after being in isolation for two years. It’s been such a critical morale boost.” PAX fans Keqing, Ayaka Kamisato and Zhongli. The inspiration for costumes ranges from childhood favourites Mario and Luigi to Among Us characters for the new generation, and adult video games such as Resident Evil and Final Fantasy. Deadcember Alt Prompt II: Stabbed in the Back
Note: Hey, so sorry for the extra long hiatus. Been trying to get in the groove of writing again.
Pavi just trailed behind his brother.
“Stupid slut thinks she’s in charge. Fuck her. I’ll show her who’s fucking in charge.”
Pavi didn’t say anything and just listened to his brother rant.
“We’ll stage a coup and see how much power she’ll have then.”
“And if-a sorella gets-a hurt in the process?”
“Who fucking cares? She’d get what she deserves.”
Pavi paused for a moment. “You don’t-a mean that, fratello.”
“I fucking do. She could rot for all I care.”
“Fratello…”
“She’s going to learn what happens when you screw Luigi fucking Largo over.”
Pavi just stared as Luigi fumed. He was serious about this. He was really serious about this.
“Where the fuck are we going, fag?”
Pavi’s mouth was dry. “Just-a further up.” He swallowed. “The Pavi found-a people who were willing to help us.”
Luigi nodded and continued on, ranting the whole way.
Something heavy settled in Pavi’s chest. He had to do this. There was no other way.
Luigi paused at a group of well-armed men standing before them. He smirked. “We’ll get that slut eas-” He froze.
Pavi’s gun dug into Luigi’s back. “I’m sorry, fratello. You made me do this. We were fine. We were happy. Why do you always have to ruin everything?”
“Fag?” Luigi growled.
“Take him.”
The men stepped forward and grabbed Luigi, guns pointed at him.
“The fuck you doing, Pavi?”
“I don’t have a choice. You’re going to get her killed.”
“Paviche!”
“You brought this on yourself, fratello. We could have worked together. Everything could be ok again. But you…you always…” Pavi steeled himself. “You made me do this, fratello. I never wanted this. You made me do this.”
“What is this, fag? You kill me and get me out of the way? You think GeneCo will ever belong to you?”
“I don’t care about GeneCo. You do. You care too much. You will never let this go even if I convince you to stop this time.”
“Then kill me yourself, you bastard. Fucking coward, using someone else to do your dirty work.”
Pavi couldn’t look at him. “I didn’t want this, fratello.” His voice cracked. “I never wanted this. Why couldn’t you just fucking leave things be?” Pavi turned to the men, “Take him. As planned.”
“Paviche!”
Pavi couldn’t face his brother. He numbly watched the men dragged him into the van. He could only watch as the anger on his brother’s face dissolve and betrayal replaced it instead. Pavi just looked away. He had to do this. If he let Luigi do this, Amber would get hurt. He had to protect his sister. He had to protect Amber.
*
Luigi looked up as the metal slot opened and food was pushed in. He ignored it. What the fuck was his idiot brother planning? If he wanted him dead, then fucking kill him already. Why leave him here like this?
He had to warn Amber. If Pavi was planning to go for her next, she had to be ready. She had to be careful. He had to get out of here and warn her. He-
Why would he care? He didn’t care if his plans got her killed right? Why should he bother now? He-
FUCK!
How could that idiot think he would actually hurt their sister? He would have never touched her. He-
But if he did as he planned…ordered his men to take over GeneCo, armed…what guarantee did he have that his sister would be unharmed?
Maybe that bastard was right. He didn’t think…
FUCK!
What now? The bastard couldn’t keep him here forever. And he couldn’t let him go. So the only option was…
Luigi pushed back the hurt feeling in his gut. It was the smart thing to do. Luigi was being an idiot as he always was. Getting him out of the way would be smart.
His sister had to be in on this as well right? The both of them planned this to get him out of the way. It made sense. The two of them had always been closer to each other than they ever been with him. Why was he even surprised?
So what? Kill him. Take his shares. Then their lives would be fucking peaceful without him. They’d be fucking happy without him.
Maybe they were right. Maybe this was for the fucking best. They’d be safe from him. They wouldn’t have to fucking deal with him.
*
The metal door slammed open.
Luigi’s eyes darted upwards to find a man standing at the door with a gun.
“Stand up. Hands on the wall.”
“Fuck you.”
The man pointed the gun at him. “Hands on the wall.”
Reluctantly, Luigi complied. This was a change. Usually they left him be. This was different. Something was different.
The gun was pointed at his head. Footsteps resounded from the door.
“New orders. Destroy everything. No evidence.” This was a new voice. This wasn’t one of his guards.
“What about him?”
Luigi heard footsteps approaching him.
“Your brother sends his apologies.”
Luigi’s brows furrowed. He was about the yell where exactly his brother can shove his apologies when a sharp pain filled his back. “The fuck?” Luigi stumbled forward against the wall. The pain in his back flared.
“Everyone else, clear everything and get out.”
“Yes sir.”
Luigi heard the men leave the room. His hands gripped the wall tighter. It fucking hurt. It fucking…
The men were leaving. There was no one guarding the door. If he gave them time to leave, he could get out of there.
Luigi took an unsteady step towards the door. The fuck was wrong with him. It fucking hurt. He took another step and stumbled forward. The burning feeling was spreading through his chest. He forced himself towards the door. He grabbed hold of it as his legs threatened to give way. It was locked. He tried to force it opened. It was shut tight. He could break it open. He could-
His vision went white for as second. He stumbled back. It was getting harder to breathe. Why was it so hard to breathe? He tried to catch his breath but it only caused his lungs to burn. He reached backwards and he felt a knife sticking out his back, right above his lungs. “Fuck.”
*
Amber followed the GeneCops as they checked the building.
“Sorella, slow down. Let the GeneCops make sure it’s clear first.”
Amber ignored him. She quickened her pace. If the kidnappers heard them, would they kill her brother? They hadn’t asked for a ransom or anything. Could this have been revenge? If it was…would her brother already be… No. She couldn’t think about that now. Luigi would be alright. He would be fine.
“Ms Sweet.”
Amber hurried towards the GeneCop. Her heart froze. Luigi was curled to his side in a pool of blood. “Get an ambulance. Hurry.”
The GeneCop nodded and ordered the others to search the place.
Amber ran up to her brother. “Lu!” She knelt by her brother’s side and heard the pained wheezing. “Lu.” He was still alive. He was still alive. “Lu, answer me.”
“Car…car…me…la…” Wheezes interrupted his words.
“I’m here, Lu. I’m here.” Amber spied the knife lodged in her brother’s back. His white shirt was soaked red. “Just stay with me. You’re going to be fine.”
“Pa…Pa…vi…”
“Pavi’s here. He’s right outside.”
“Pa…pa…vi…”
“Shhh…don’t talk. Just save your strength. The doctors will be here soon.”
“Be…care-”
“Sorella.”
Amber heard Pavi run into the room. “He’s hurt. Lu’s hurt. He’s…”
Luigi was staring at Pavi with an expression she couldn’t read. Finally resignation filled his face and he closed his eyes. What was…
“Lu. Hey, keep your eyes open.”
“…was…angry… would…never…have…done it…”
“What are you talking about, Lu?”
“Would…never…have…let…you…get hurt…”
“Lu, what are you going on about?”
Luigi’s brows furrowed as he stared at her. Something akin to relief filled his features. “Wasn’t…you…” His eyes drooped close.
Amber pulled her brother towards her. “Lu, stay awake. Stay with me.”
Luigi’s eyes opened but barely focused on her. The wheezes grew worse.
“Who did this to you? Brother, who did this?”
“Don’t…know…wore…masks…”
Pavi stiffened beside her but said nothing.
“We’ll find who did this. I promise.”
“No.” Luigi’s gaze drifted to Pavi.
Amber turned to see her brother refusing to meet Luigi’s gaze.
“You’re a right bastard, you know that, fratello?” Pavi’s voice cracked but he still refused to meet his gaze.
“I…know…”
“Fratello, I-”
“For…get…it…Pa…vi…che…” Luigi’s chest heaved as the wheezes intensified.
“Just a bit more, Lu. The ambulance will be here soon.”
“…’s’…okay….’La…For…the…best…”
“Lu, please. I’ll do anything you want. Just stay with me. I’ll give you anything you want. Take GeneCo. I don’t care, just stay with me.”
A strange sound escape Luigi’s lips that for half an appalling second, Amber thought he was choking. Instead the sound formed into a pained laugh. Blood trailed the side of his lips.
“Lu?”
“’m…a…fuck...g…idiot…”
“Si, fratello. You are.”
Amber just furrowed her brow. It felt like she was missing something. Something important she just was not getting. “Lu!”
Luigi’s breathing was becoming shallower.
“Come on Lu, please. Just hold on.”
Luigi’s eyes met hers as he took desperate breaths.
“Fratello, I-”
“It’s…o…kay…”
“I didn’t…I thought…”
“I…kn…ow…”
Amber turned to Pavi, something heavy sitting in her gut. “Pavi, what did you do?”
Pavi closed his eyes and looked away.
“Did…did you do this?” No. Pavi was with her the whole time. Pavi was helping her search for him. He couldn’t…He wouldn’t…
“Me…la…it’s…o…kay…”
Amber turned back to her brother. “Lu?”
“It’s…o…kay…” Luigi’s eyes unfocused and looked passed her.
“Lu?”
Luigi took a shuddering breath and his chest fell still.
“LU!” Amber could only cradle her still brother to her as a cry of grief escaped her lips. “What did you do, Pavi? Tell me you didn’t do this. Tell me you didn’t do this!”
Pavi turned away from her and headed to the door.
“Pavi! Why would you do this? Why?”
“I did what I had to.” He left the room ignoring his sister calling after him.
