Collage is an artistic technique that consists of pasting different images on a canvas or paper. The term is applied above all to painting, but by extension it can refer to any other artistic manifestation, such as music, cinema, literature or video clips. It comes from the French coller, which means to hit.

Although Picasso is considered to have invented collage in 1912 with his painting Still Life with a Mesh Chair, it is not known exactly whether Picasso or Georges Braque came first. The former had glued photographs to his drawings as early as 1899, and in the spring of 1912 he incorporated oilcloth in the form of a grid into his aforementioned painting Still Life with a Grid Chair. But the latter made the first papiers collés at the end of the summer of that year by incorporating cuts of commercial wallpaper that imitated wood into his works, one of whose examples is Tete de femme (1912). At that time, the two artists had settled in Sorgues, although Picasso was traveling in Paris when Braque bought the paper and produced these works. Upon his return, Picasso was enthusiastic about his friend's discovery and the two began to insert clippings from newspapers or magazines, liquor or cigarette labels, and also colored paper into their paintings. Juan Gris quickly understood the power of the finding and used it too, being the first to present a collage in an exhibition.1 Futurism also adapted it without problems - there are examples by Carlo Carrà and Giacomo Balla - and the Dadaists multiplied their expressive possibilities and conceptual by the hand of Hans Arp, Marcel Duchamp, Hannah Höch, Kurt Schwitters or George Grosz. In fact, the Berlin Dadaists, who claimed for themselves the name "editors" as opposed to the epic of "artist", consider themselves the inventors of photomontage, a technique made from photography in combination or not with printed typography. , in which the Russian avant-garde artists, such as El Lissitzky, Aleksandr Ródchenko or Salomón Telingater, were true masters.

Collage was purified from a previous or technical principle whose first creator was apparently the Dadaist Marcel Duchamp: the "found object", according to which whatever an artist chooses is sacralized as "art", from a stone that catches his attention on a way to a picture you like in a magazine. From there to the amalgamation of "found objects" or collage is only one step.

Collage has been used, then, in the historical avant-gardes of the early 20th century: Futurism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Constructivism... Plastic artists who have frequently used this technique include Max Ernst, Juan Gris, Georges Braque, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Raoul Hausmann, Antoni Tàpies, Modest Cuixart, Jasper Johns, Alfonso Buñuel and the Mexican artist Alberto Gironella. Likewise, it is a technique habitually used by the creators of Mail Art in the dissemination of their works. There are new literary groups that are implementing collective collage as a text composition technique. It was created in France in 1912.

Contemporary collage develops a critical vision of the consumer society, misinformation, scientism and dataism as the axis of social life. This artistic technique acquires a new, more eclectic expressiveness with the use of new materials, language and digital typography and mixed media. This raises a critique of roots and concepts in neoliberal society. In these, the personality of the human being is in a profound deconstruction of chaotically ordered values, feelings and ideas. In the contemporary, urbanized collage, the fusion of signifiers, meanings and encrypted messages stand out, the unstructured set of concepts, letters and materials redefined in an abstract dimension. New artists like kikeyø reformulate collage and open up a new perspective. In a globalized world saturated by social networks, a lifestyle guided by algorithms and dominated by data, the individual, paradoxically increasingly isolated, finds himself on the brink of emotional and existential collapse. Desires are fragmented into non-linear and dreamlike thoughts. The reality is increasingly opaque and indecipherable. A conscious idea, pragmatism and dreams converge in the artistic imaginary of contemporary collage.

Die Nacht war recht kalt und am Morgen stellen wir fest, dass Manuelas Vorderrad einen Platten hat. Zudem sollten wir heute waschen, aber der Campingplatz hat keinen Trockner, wie die Rezeptionistin erklärt. Also pumpen wir Manuelas Vorderrad auf - die Luft hält - und fahren bis Girondella zu einem Waschsalon.

Um 14:30 Uhr ist die Wäsche gewaschen, der Schlauch gewechselt, eingekauft und ein frisches Baquette mit Butter gegessen. Rasch sind wir in Berga, wo wir uns in der Stadt hochquälen. Danach geht es auf einer Bundesstraße durch das Tal des Llobreget, was nicht sehr angenehm ist, weil der Seitenstreifen nur sehr schmal ist. Besonders in den Tunnels ist das nicht spaßig.

Die Bundesstraße biegt ab und wir fahren durch wunderschöne Bergwälder weiter bergauf.

Wir buchen ein Zimmer in einem Rifugio, das zu einer ehemaligen Zementfabrik gehört. Das Interior und die Wirtin sind kurios.

Mit einem belgischen Motorradfahrer unterhalten wir uns nach dem schmackhaften Abendessen.

Interessant am Tal des Llobregat finden wir die alten Fabriken mit den verlassenen Villen der Fabrikbesitzer, die manchmal wie Schlösser aussehen.
