Ghostbusters brainrot, because I can't stop thinking about it
This is just me talking about all the different units that make up the Ghostbusters business because I have zero self control. Long post, so there's more below the cut.
SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE
There's the motorcycle unit, which is pretty self-explanatory. They're mainly used for small busts or quotes since they can't carry a lot of equipment on them, really just a downsized proton pack and one, maybe two traps depending on the model of the bike.
Then we have the Ecto units, from Ecto-1 to Ecto-3. Ecto-1 is retired due to it's age and how hard it is to repair and update to the times, so there's actually only two Ectomobiles available. All Ectos have top notch technology, but are still 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteors. They are custom made for the Ghostbusters so that they can keep their iconic car model but still be functional in modern times. They have a gunner seat (as much as the mayor hates it), pull out rack for the proton packs (fits up to four packs), proton cannon, folding ramp for the remote trap vehicle, and drone trap. The Ectomobiles can fit one gunner, one driver, one front passenger, and three back passengers. These units are used for pretty much any busts.
After the Ecomobiles, we have the humvees, which are really just Ectomobiles but bigger, scarier, faster, and tougher. They also have a Super Slammer Muon Trap on top, and instead of the gunner seat being on the side, they're on the top like a regular gunner seat on any other humvee. They can fit one driver, one front passenger, one gunner, and two back passengers. They are known as Ghost-1, Ghost-2, and Ghost-3. There is a compartment in the back seat that carries four proton packs.
After the Busters we have the Cleaners, who arrive after the Busters do their thing and clean up after them. Sometimes all they have to do it take samples of whatever the ghost left behind, and other times it's a full on biohazard cleanup. The Slimer would've been a biohazard level cleanup for example, as well as the Pink Slime, but a spot in the middle of your hallway that created a sense of dread and cold would be a sample level cleanup.
Of course we have the receptionists, because without them Ghostbusters would not exist. They mainly take calls and send out crews, but occasionally help out during major events like Gozer the Gozerian, the Pink Slime, and Garraka.
We have the Paranormal Research Center, where, with time, had been expanded into a full facility with different units for different types of research. They also have an actual functioning containment system, with hundreds of containment units. Each has a database of what ghosts are in each unit and their full file and date they were caught. Once a week a researcher heads down to the Ghostbusters headquarters to gather all of the traps that had been filled that week to empty them into their containment system. The only ghost currently held under headquarters is Garraka, as it's too dangerous to move that one. The basement is fully off limits without authorization due to its containment. The Paranormal Research Center also has their own emergency units available in case of a major event. This is also where the majority of training for new Ghostbusters is done.
There is an entire wall dedicated to their standard gear (flight suits, boots, gloves) in the truck bay. This wall is almost exactly what the turnout gear racks look like for firefighters. Each Ghostbuster has their own little cubby to hold their gear, as well as a shelf above to hold any extras they may need. This cubby also contains a specialized jacket for cold weather (the red jackets that are seen in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and are worn by Lucky and Lars) and a helmet (Pacific Helmets WR5, for example). We've seen the Ghostbusters get thrown around enough to have a concussion at least once, and Janine probably had them ordered after the second time the boys came back from a call with welts on the backs of their heads.
After years of being in that falling apart firehouse, they finally have it renovated to fit their needs (and definitely splurging on the fun stuff). Think a glorified firehouse. There's a bar (in Venkman's name), recreation room, kitchen, gym, ready room, and bunk room. An entire floor is dedicated to offices and conference rooms, although those conference rooms are usually used for Super Smash Bros tournaments and gaming because they have large TVs that are awesome for multiplayer games. The containment unit used for Garraka is never touched, and the floor it resides on is off limits without authorization, as stated above. Of course it was renovated in a way, but the unit itself is never touched.
This will definitely be reblogged with more as I come up with it, and feel free to add on!

So, I redesigned the main villain from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Spoilers under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Garraka first appeared on the screen, his entire body was covered in darkness and alongside the glowing blue eyes, I found his design intimidating and interesting. Unfortunately, he didn't stay in shadows for long as his true form is rather generic and lacks the cool (no pun intended) factor of his first appearance.
Thus, I set out to redesign him to regain that menacing shadowy appearance.
Design Notes
As you can tell, his body is made up entirely of darkness. His claws and the tips of his horns are covered in ice so they can add more contrast in the design (the base of the horns are also differently colored to have more variety in the color scheme and to indicate that they are removable) and to convey his ice powers.
I changed the horns up and added another pair to make for a more dynamic silhouette (OG's horns aren't that bad but they could be improved on IMO). I took inspiration from Fate/Grand Order's portrayal of the Babylonian goddess, Tiamat, and the Bull Headed Lyre of Ur for the horns' design.
He has no mouth so he doesn't do his ice breath; he does his ice bending with his hands.
His shadow body represents the rage and hatred that makes up Garraka. The horns only appear that way when they're attached to his head and when they removed, they are no longer covered in shadows.
Also, I came up with some lore for my redesigned Garraka. It's more of a reworking of his original lore with actual Sumerian mythology thrown in (TW for violence and death):
The son of Nergal, god of Death and king of the Underworld (Kur), and one of his wives, Mamitu, whose name amongst other things means frost, Garraka proved to be a powerful deity in his own right. Thanks to his divine heritage, Garraka is able to command spirits with his words and not even the most powerful ghostly beings could defy him. He also possessed the Death Chill, capable of inducing true fear in his opponents that freezes them alive. Yet, he is much weakened if his horns, a symbol of his heritage, were to be removed. Garraka was content to spend his eternal life in his native Kur but he willingly left Kur whenever he was summoned. One such summoning was from a king who wanted Garraka's help in conquering East and Center Asia. Garraka obliged, mercilessly freezing over nations. The King witnessed Garraka's power and began fearing him. Once he established his kingdom, the King came up with a plan. He planned a festival in Garraka's honor as a way of thanking him and Garraka showed up. While Garraka was distracted eating the meals offered to him, the King brought his strongest warriors and with some rope that they tied around his horns, they ripped them off his head.
Pained and weakened, Garraka realized that he was betrayed. Even without the horns, he was still strong, and he was upset that he was betrayed; betrayed by mortals none the less! A species far inferior than him yet had the sheer audacity to deceive a god and attempt to strip him of his power. Filled with rage, darkness consumed his body and he killed every single mortal attending the festival, including the King, and set out to bring upon the next Ice Age, freezing the entire Earth and wiping humanity out.
The god of fire, Gibil, caught wind of Garraka's plans. Naturally, fire won't thrive in a world of ice, so he sought out a way to stop Garraka. He blessed his followers with the gift to command flames with their finger tips and ordered them to stop Garraka. His followers would become known as the Firemasters, precursors to the Ghostbusters, and they successfully thrawted Garraka, using fire and brass to combat his deathly ice and trapping him within a special orb designed by Gibil. The Firemasters and their descendants then dedicated their lives to protecting the orb so Garraka will never escape whilst dealing with other spirits. As millennia past, they began dying out and by the modern day, a modern descendant, unaware of his heritage, found the orb containing Garraka and not knowing any better, he sells it to a retired Ghostbuster's supernatural oddities store. Little did he know that he was contributing to Garraka's freedom...

Movie Review - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
In 2016 we saw Ghostbusters rebooted, which did not go down well with a goodly portion of the fans or at the box office.  In 2021 we saw the original continuity resurrected with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, showing what happened to our most beloved paranormal investigators in the decades since having a smackdown with a guy in a painting. Now in 2024 we get the sequel to Afterlife, the 4th movie of…

So, both Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the novelization of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire both start with the same poem by Robert Frost.
That probably means something, right?

So I checked out some gameplay footage of the free DLC update for Spirits Unleashed. I have to say I'm a bit... Underwhelmed. I got my hopes up thinking that the new characters from Frozen Empire would show up as NPCs, but all we seem to get is an icy re-theme of the Firehouse, and a bounty that unlocks Garraka as a playable Overlord class ghost. There's also new gear shells and cosmetics but those never interested me all that much. I don't know if there's any new dialogue from characters but everything looks more or less the same? Eh, maybe I'll check it out later if it's still available. There will be other updates for the game on the way, most of them don't interest me but apparently the Scoleri Brothers are set to make a comeback. I wonder how that will work? The game is 4V1 so I'm curious to see just how they'd make a bounty with two ghosts. There's also going to be another "fan favourite" ghost later on but I have no idea who. I WANT Boogieman but I know I should keep my expectations low.
I also watched gameplay footage of the VR game. It's nice to see Lars, Lucky and Podcast as playable characters, but sadly they are only skins with no effect on dialogue or story. Strange that only those three are included and not Phoebe and Trevor though? There's more dialogue from Dan Aykroyd at least.

• This guy is a snacker
• Take one look at him. You can't tell me that he doesn't constantly skip out on meals in favor of research, usually just pulling a granola bar or stained tupperware from his desk drawer to eat while he works
• Don't get me wrong, Lars can still devour a good bit of food. Sometimes you like to make fun of him for how much good he'll get on his face in the process
• "You're looking at me weird." He frowned at you one day from behind the rims of his glasses
• "Uh, yeah. Wonder why." You grin with mild surprise, watching as leftover rice and beans from the burrito in his hands stuck to the corners of his mouth like glue. He was quick to wipe it all off, ignoring you as you laughed at him
• Aside from that, Lars usually keeps his workplace pretty clean. It's cluttered, sure, but you don't think you've ever seen him wonder where something went. He just always knew where things were. It was like he had a system in his head, and the more you thought about it, the more you decided he definitely did
• The one time someone had even tried to clean his place up, you watched as he immediately jumped in, convincing them that they were needed elsewhere and sending them off before they could mess with his set-up
• Often times, when it's just the two of you alone in the offsight lab, you'll bounce a tennis ball off the wall while Lars types away, only ever looking up to squint at you when the ball gets to close to his head
• "You should really give that to the possesor. I'm sure it'd appreciate it." He hums to you at one point while spinning around in his chair to reach something. Behind you, you hear the unmistakable sound of a metal chair tapping excitedly on glass, and you make a tsking noise
• "Pretty sure you just want me to stop distracting you with my awesome skills." You boast, attempting to do a trickshot only to smack Lars in the back. He glares at you, and you inch backward with a nervous chuckle
• "You know what, I think I'll give it to the possesor."
• "What a brilliant idea." Lars says monotonely. You were quick to get rid of the ball
• He hums while he works!
• It's not anything discernable. In fact, most of the time he isn't even singing real songs. Just little tunes he'll make up on the spot for himself; often as a way to pass the time and make minute tasks fly by
• You notice it quite a lot, but don't really say anything. It's quite entertaining, if you're being truthful
• "Sittin' and waitin' for food. Sittin' and waitin' for food.." He'd improvised once while waiting yet again for a t.v dinner of his to finish its cycle in the labs shared microwave
• "Wow Lars. Voice of an angel, you have."
• "Stuff it."
• Lars doesn't often need help with his work, there's a reason he landed the job after all, but when he does, you're always the first person he goes to. It's a side effect of having spent so much time with you at work, and even outside of it—if you counted lunch breaks and independent experiments as a non-work environment
• He likes being able to get a fresh set of eyes on whatever's stumping him, and it usually doesn't take long for the two of you to work around whatever was holding him up
• Overall, you couldn't think of a better friend/co-worker to have, and the same applies for Lars. Your relationship will only strengthen as time goes on, even withstanding the bizzar experiences that Garraka eventually brings later that year
• But that's for much later. Right now, the two of you are content to sit in the aquarium-turned-headquarters, watching as the hours ticked by without a care in the world

This is my thesis on why Garraka was the good guy of Frozen Empire actually.
