UK Rock Superstars Tournament Participants!!!!

We have a remarkable 244 entries into the UK Rock Superstars Tournament. They will be sorted into 61 groups of 4 for the tournament to begin on Monday, May 22nd. Based on the number of nominations and other popularity factors I've sorted the entries into four pots. I will create the groups by randomly selecting one rock act from each pot for each group.

　高知県東部の小さな港町「奈半利町」からスタートしたコーヒーショップ。現在は市内洞ヶ島にて焙煎所併設のコーヒースタンドとして営業している。オーナーが古巣より引き継いだビンテージのFuji 直火式焙煎機で丁寧にローストするコーヒーは柔らかさの中にも "芯" があり、その味わいからはどことなく北欧の日常を感じさせられます。

Sparkster - Um herói propulsivo que a Konami esqueceu

Sparkster é uma franquia obscura de games cujo primeiro game surgiu em 1993 pelas mãos da Konami para o SEGA Genesis sob o nome de Rocket Knight Adventures. O game consistia de um platformer, no qual um guerreiro chamado Sparkster, trajando uma armadura com propulsores, enfrenta um exército de suínos. No meio desse conflito, ele enfrenta um guerreiro sombrio chamado Axel Gear, um renegado, que tem habilidades de combate similares. Além disso, tem o velho esquema de donzela em apuros: Sparkster tem de salvar a princesa Sherry. Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 foi lançado para Mega Drive em 1994 e apresentou melhorias em relação ao game antecessor, sendo que um comando era usado para espada, outro para o Jetpack, e um para pulos. Na trama, os reptilianos e o líder deles, Gedol, pretendem dominar o reino de Zephyrus, e no meio do conflito, a princesa Cherry é capturada por Axel Gear e mais uma vez, Sparkster tem de retornar à cena da justiça para punir os malfeitores e resgatar a princesa. No mesmo ano(1994), foi lançado um game sobre o personagem para o SNES. A versão de SNES é similar com o game de Mega Drive, mas se passa em um universo alternativo. Os vilões mudaram: agora são lobos amarelos. O arquirrival Axel Gear retornou, sequestrando a princesa Flora, com isso, Sparkster parte para a ação, com o propósito de derrotar os “Lobos Maus”, Axel Gear, e resgatar a princesa Flora.

Rocket Knight foi lançado em 2010 para PS3 e Xbox 360, sendo uma sequela de Sparkster: Rocket Knigh Adventures 2, em vez de um remake do primeiro game. Os suínos retornaram à cena do crime e juntamente com eles, Axel Gear. Sparkster parte em uma jornada solitária para enfrentar velhos conhecidos com uma extensa ficha criminal... Infelizmente Sparkster não teve nenhum game novo depois de Rocket Knight 2010, em outras palavras, ele fez apenas aparições especiais em outros games da Konami, por exemplo, Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu, New International Track & Field, e Konami Krazy Racers...

O álbum faz conexões diretas em cada faixa, com as partes finais de cada uma delas se conectando ou transicionando de alguma forma uma com a outra, sendo um álbum de sequência direta (por exemplo no fim de ilomime, a frase final dá ideia de continuação e de algo sexual quando ela pergunta se ele quer ficar, como uma introdução para wanderlust).

Uma introdução de quarenta e três segundos. Começando a intro com um suspiro, ela diz a frase que dá início ao álbum “I think the world is a little red now…” logo em seguida de forma angustiada sem instrumental. Há apenas chiados ao fundo junto da voz de Anna que no verso único está com o efeito como se ela estivesse em uma ligação. Após o final da frase, a música corta logo para a segunda faixa de forma abrupta. Como o nome da introdução “RED/LOVE” e em sua composição quer mostrar, a música interliga a cor vermelha (em sua simbologia) ao sentimento do amor e como o ser humano deseja se tornar amado, pois sentir amor nos faz nos sentir vivos e nos dá sentido às coisas. E ao final, ela traz mais uma frase vaga de que quando nós não nos sentimos amados, nos tornamos vermelhos, o que pode dar um sentido de vazio ou raiva, angústia e dor, algo que o álbum desenvolve em torno das próximas faixas…

Uma faixa de r&b contemporâneo mesclada com alternativo, a segunda música apresentada no projeto é YO(U). Com um nome bastante estranho, ele não se refere apenas à palavra harmonia que fica de fundo na maior parte da música. O nome da música é um trocadilho com a palavra “ani-yo” que significa não em coreano com You. O sotaque de Anna da região de Jeju junto da sua interpretação em euforia negativa da palavra fazem com que o “yo” se assemelhe a palavra You em seu som que traz dois sentidos que se conectam na música, onde a jovem está em negação e ao mesmo tempo o chamando enquanto se questiona. A faixa fala sobre inseguranças e até mesmo ciúmes, onde Anna fala sobre o conflito que ela tem em confiar em seu amor por puras paranóias. Ela não se sente bonita e boa o suficiente, mas sempre tenta reverter a situação tentando dar tudo de si para ele mesmo que ela esteja se quebrando e desestabilizando por conta dos seus problemas. No fim, ela acaba em crise e não consegue aguentar todo esse peso…

O carro chefe do mini álbum, Mise-en-scene, explora as frustrações de um amor enfrentando sua validade. A expressão que nomeia a música está relacionada a encenação ou posicionamento de uma cena, como os elementos que compõem uma peça ou cena de uma obra cinematográfica. Podemos ver que o eu lírico encara seu amor como arte por meio disso, mas que as luzes estão se apagando e as cenas românticas em sua vida estão cada vez mais desanimadas. Ela não quer aceitar ou deixá-lo ir, e isso só a deixa mais frustrada, porém no fim ela só encara a realidade como podemos ouvir ao final, uma voz masculina (a do produtor Kijikush), dizendo “corta”. Uma música influenciada pelo soul e r&b, a música mostra os fortes vocais de Anna que transmitem a dor e melancolia.

4. ilomemo (feat. Haneul of EON)

Uma faixa bem mais agressiva em relação às outras mais melancólicas, ilomemo (um tipo de sigla para a frase mais repetida durante o refrão e que guia a música) agora mostra um eu lírico quase emancipado e com raiva, que mostra frustração com o seu amor e também consigo mesma por ainda manter essa paixão. Podendo ser interpretada como uma faixa pós-término aonde o garoto tenta se aproximar de Anna como amigos e ela não consegue aceitar isso, pois ele ainda está dando chances pra ela e atrapalhando o processo de aceitação dos fatos da mesma com essa aproximação. Mas apesar de ser o melhor, ela não consegue o afastar, pois ela se ama mais do que ama a si mesma, mesmo isso sendo dificil de admitir. No fim podemos ver que ela ainda não aprendeu nada. A faixa é uma parceria com a rapper Haneul integrante do EON que também participou do Project Genesis com a mesma e Sherry.

A faixa talvez mais controversa do álbum e mais chamativa também por seu conteúdo lirico. uma jovem e delicada Anna se abre sobre vida sexual mostrando uma voz mais delicada e refletida a inocência durante toda a música. Com as batidas de hip & hop, “wanderlust” pode servir continuando a estrofe final da última faixa onde os dois fazem amor e encaram seus problemas na relação na cama, ignorando os problemas ou tentando resolve-los internamente mesmo com uma relação terminada. Mas o significado de “wanderlust” vai muito mais a fundo e pode falar até mesmo sobre a virgindade e muito sobre uma vida sexual melancólica. “wanderlust” significa um grande desejo por viagens ou por conhecer o mundo de forma extrema, e aqui, esse desejo extremo e a frase“conheça meu mundo” se referem aos mundos internos de Anna e de seu parceiro nesse momento, onde eles podem se conectar também pessoalmente pelo sexo, suas partes ocultas, beijar suas cicatrizes…Anna quer esquecer tudo que aconteceu e esconder todas essas dores por meio de prazer, ela é uma inocência perdida no inferno.

O outro lado de Anna (que é referido na aberta de mundo de Anna/quando Anna se abre pra ele de qualquer forma literal e é praticamente quem canta ilomime) é visto no rap final onde seu tom fica mais grave e harmoniza com o tom mais dócil e sexual do restante da música. Ela é mais direta e fala direto ao ponto, enquanto a outra Anna é delicada e melancólica. A Anna oculta pode ser tudo que ela esconde das pessoas e do amor, tudo que ela está disposta a revelar de si (e revela no fim) para esquecer todos os problemas e dores, pois no fim são curas temporárias. Nossos mundos abertos, mostram nossas verdadeiras faces e podem nos curar das dores que o mundo e nós mesmos lidamos, transformar a dor em prazer é temporário pois tudo volta. Essa mistura de sexualidade e deprimência faz com que “wanderlust” seja uma das faixas mais excêntricas do mini. A incógnita é que essas ações sexuais são uma tentativa de esquecer o seu amor com outra pessoa ou com ele?...Isso é deixado para sua interpretação.

Amor é um jogo sério, vimos isso nas cinco últimas faixas e agora Anna cita ao iniciar bitter&sweet. Se yo(U), mise-en-scene e ilomeme retratam uma crise no relacionamento onde talvez na linha de continuidade Anna e ele estão dando um tempo mas ainda estão se encontrando, wanderlust e agora bitter&sweet provam que Anna não o superou e não quer superá-lo. Aqui com expressões referentes a sabores e temperos, “bitter&sweet” (vindo da expressão que significa agridoce, onde pode ser escrito assim por conta das duas palavras serem repetidas de forma separada durante a música criando a junção de forma separada).

A música fala sobre um tipo de possessivismo que acabamos podendo ter em relacionamentos, onde Anna não o trata como se fosse algo normal ou algo bom, não o romantizando e sim o tratando como uma crítica e um defeito seu. Onde nunca enxergamos realmente o que o parceiro quer, pois queremos sempre ter momentos felizes (nunca se deixando enxergar o que realmente o outro quer) e não queremos deixá-los ir mesmo que isso esteja pendente. O sweet, doce, pode se referir ao amor de Anna enquanto o amargo pode se referir ao amor da pessoa. Um verdadeiro amor agridoce, que está se tornando mais amargo do que doce. Anna se questiona várias vezes o porque ele está tão sério durante a música e fala sobre querer coisas superficiais, o que mostra que ela não está realmente ligando para os sentimentos dele de verdade pois pra ela só importa estar com ele. Anna estava tão infeliz que não quer enxergar mais isso, ela está jogando o jogo do amor e não quer que ele gaste todas as fichas com ela logo pois não quer que ele se frustre. A música também pode ser interpretada como se Anna arranjasse uma nova paixão e estivesse obcecada em não querer que acontecesse as mesmas coisas que aconteceram anteriormente.

A última música, redME (ou Read Me sem um título mais conceitual) é uma faixa sobre aceitação de término e lidar com tudo que está acontecendo. Parece que após de todo seu amor doce transbordar ao colidir com o amargo amor de sua paixão, ela finalmente enxerga o que já estava previsto desde a primeira faixa. O amor a cegou mas agora ela já sabe e já aceita, mesmo que isso vá doer, ela decide se despedir. A faixa é meio que diversas reflexões sobre seu relacionamento, sobre como ela se esforçou para isto não acontecer mas não fim nada impediu o desastre já evidenciado. redME pode ser lido como Read Me, e se refere a como ela queria ter sido lida em seus sentimentos como ela leu os dele e tentou fazer algo, mas nada aconteceu. No fim, já conformada, ela dispara que um dia talvez a vida dê chances para o vermelho dos mesmos, mas agora eles precisam respeitar os dias azuis que virão assim encerrando o ciclo de sete faixas.

2020 Backlog Progress in Retrospect

2020 was the year of finally finishing the backlog. The final game ended up being Disco Elysium back on July 1st but in the months since I’ve built up a list again. Going forward I’m hoping to keep the backlog at 10 games or less since I’ve found I do like having a wider list of games to choose from after finishing something. After finishing over 100 games in 2020 there were a ton of classics that I finished for the first time, so many so that making a top 20 list was very difficult. I’ve always made this end of year breakdowns for my own archives but I thought it would be fun to share it this year alongside the full list of what I finished!

Favorite game of 2020: Sakura Wars

When I was looking back at this year, the game that stuck the most with me was easily the original Sakura Wars for the Sega Saturn. Back in December of 2019 the english patch released online and I was so excited to finally be able to play the first entry in one of Sega’s biggest franchises for the first time. I had yet to play any games in the series beyond just fumbling around an import copy of various games on Saturn and Dreamcast and I was glad to be able to experience it with such a well-made fan patch. It’s a very simple strategy game mixed in with lite RPG and Dating mechanics but there’s such a great charm to how well everything mixes together. The way they mix in the animated cutscenes throughout each chapter make it feel like you’re playing a classic mid 90′s anime and it was just a nice cozy experience the whole way. I managed to play through it twice this year and tinkered around with later entrees in the series but I’m hopeful that the sequel will get picked up as a fan translation project soon, otherwise I’ll probably be going through those games the old fashioned way with a printed out GameFAQS guide at my side.
