Setting Up a Minecraft Server: A Beginner's Guide
Minecraft, the immensely popular sandbox game, offers players the opportunity to create and explore their own virtual worlds. While playing on public servers can be fun, setting up your own Minecraft server provides greater control and customization options. If you're new to server setup, this beginner's guide will walk you through the process step by step, helping you create your own Minecraft server and invite your friends or community to join in on the fun. Step 1: System Requirements Before diving into the server setup process, ensure that your computer or hosting environment meets the necessary system requirements. Minecraft servers are not resource-intensive, but you'll need a computer with sufficient processing power and RAM to handle multiple players. At a minimum, aim for a dual-core processor and 4GB of RAM. A stable internet connection is also vital for a smooth multiplayer experience. Step 2: Choose a Server Edition Minecraft offers two primary server editions: Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Java Edition is the original version, compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux, and provides greater customization options through mods and plugins. Best 1.18 minecraft servers Bedrock Edition, on the other hand, is compatible with Windows 10, consoles, and mobile devices, allowing for cross-platform play. Consider your preferences and the platforms your intended players will be using when choosing the server edition. Step 3: Download the Server Software To set up your Minecraft server, you'll need to download the server software from the official Minecraft website. Visit minecraft.net and navigate to the "Downloads" section. Select the server edition you've chosen, and click on the download link to save the server software to your computer. Step 4: Create a Server Folder Create a dedicated folder on your computer where you'll store all the server files. Name it something easily recognizable, such as "Minecraft Server." Step 5: Configure Server Settings Open the server software file you downloaded earlier. This will generate the necessary server files within your server folder. Once the files have finished generating, locate the "server.properties" file in the server folder. Open this file with a text editor to configure the server settings. Customize options such as the server name, maximum number of players, difficulty level, and game mode according to your preferences. Step 6: Port Forwarding (If Hosting Locally) If you plan to host the server on your own computer, you'll need to configure port forwarding on your router. Port forwarding allows incoming connections from the internet to reach your Minecraft server. The process for port forwarding varies depending on your router model. Consult your router's documentation or visit portforward.com for specific instructions on how to configure port forwarding for Minecraft. Step 7: Start the Server With the server settings configured and port forwarding set up (if applicable), you're ready to start your Minecraft server. Double-click the server software file to launch the server. A console window will appear, and the server will begin loading. Once the server has finished loading, it's ready to accept player connections. Step 8: Invite Players to Join To invite players to join your Minecraft server, they'll need your public IP address (or domain if you have one) and the server port (default is 25565). Share this information with your friends or community members, and they can enter the server address in their Minecraft client to connect to your server. Step 9: Customize and Manage Your Server Congratulations! Your Minecraft server is up and running. Now you can customize and manage your server to suit your preferences. Explore additional features like mods, plugins, and server management tools to enhance your server's functionality. Consider installing popular server management plugins such as EssentialsX or LuckPerms to streamline administrative tasks and ensure a smooth player experience. Setting up your own Minecraft server may seem daunting at first, but with this beginner's guide, you have the knowledge to create a customized multiplayer experience for you and your friends or community. Remember to check the system requirements, choose the appropriate server edition, configure the server settings, and set up port forwarding if hosting locally. With your Minecraft server up and running, you can invite others to join, explore endless possibilities, and create unforgettable adventures together. So, gather your friends, unleash your creativity, and embark on a Minecraft journey that's entirely your own. Happy building!

Hello! I've been inactive due to the current events in the mcyt community, but I've been keeping up with the qsmp admin situation and I thought I'd share some opinions because the amount of doomposting I've seen the last few weeks has been more than I've seen in any fandom in a while and I feel like it's reached the point where people really need to chill the fuck out because they're not thinking straight and actively not helping. Everything I'm gonna say is based on stuff I've seen on both tumblr and twitter.
they should not promote/release merch! : one of the things that baffles me the most tbh; how do you expect any employee to be payed then? Merch is so far the only big source of income for the server besides q's own cc salary or whatever income they get through the official qsmp channel on twitch and youtube (which I don't think is a lot). "I get that they said they have no funds, but still it doesn't feel right"... sorry but at this point I don't know what to tell you, do you expect them to pull money out of their asses? You can't demand that they stop making merch and then complain that they can't afford the twitter admins at the same time. If you don't feel comfortable buying anything from them it's fine obviously, but if your reason for it is that you're helping the admins then I have bad news for you. I have seen people propose that quackity sets up a patreon, and while I think it would be a good idea, I understand why he's not doing it, since with the merch he can at least give something back to the people that choose to support his project instead of people just giving him money for free, especially with what's happening now. Also with how much hate he's been receiving simply for the merch I can't imagine that a patreon would be recieved well.
we don't know if the money is going to the admins/ they should not use pomme's likeness! : the money is definitely going to go to the employees and admins because otherwise the server would not last. And as much as I understand people feeling protective over pomme's admin, quackity studios is very much allowed to sell merch of the character because it is not the likeness of the admin, it's a minecraft model made by the people that work there. Would you have rathered they skip her character entirely? Do you really think that would have been okay?. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen posts and tweets saying that pomme's admin has been confirmed to come back with the other eggs whenever it happens by pierre, who talked with her admin.
Tumblr media
the admins of the update accounts got fired, it means they want to fire everyone, they aren't making things better! : it sucks that the updates accounts had to end and I feel bad for every twitter admin that clearly cared a lot about the project, but unfortunately it had to happen if there simply isn't enough money to pay them adequately like they deserved and ultimately the update accounts were not essential to keep the project going, so it makes sense that they were let go unfortunately. This is not gonna be the case for the egg admins because if they got fired (which they didn't), the server would basically end. Just because a cc does not know when they will be back does not mean it's not gonna happen. Just because tubbo randomly said that he's not sure if they will be back does not mean they were fired; tubbo is normally not a reliable source of information, even less so when he's been live nonstop for the past 20 days, which is prior to everything happening. If you genuinely didn't expect a reduction in non essential staff considering everything, then you have unreasonable expectations on how this stuff goes. As I write this, I'm seeing people saying that "they would understand this decision if q had set up a patreon to pay the admins", and once again I don't understand how people don't realize why quackity might not be keen on the idea of having his fans pay his own employees for his own project instead of, you know, doing it himself; and, again, do not fool yourself into thinking it would be recieved well. That being said, it's fair to criticize how everything was communicated to the admins, but I'll get to this in more detail later.
quackity should not have uninstalled social media, he's trying to avoid everything! : he's not avoiding anything, he's been off social media for a while now, which is why it took him that long to remove wilbur from the server. He has every right to not want to look at social media, as his focus should be on restructuring his server instead of doomscrolling on twitter because people think he needs to see how much people dislike him. The only people that he should talk to are those that have important information to tell him, like josè with the document. He explicitly said on stream where to contact him if you have helpful information and I'm sure that despite multiple well liked posts saying not to spam his email, people are definitely doing it anyway, which is probably gonna slow the whole thing down even more. I hope josè's document is able to be seen with pierre's help as well.
quackity studios is not communicating with their employees and leaving them in the dark and that's not okay : I agree with this. i think a huge chunk of doomposting lately has been due the lack of communication not with the audience, but with the admins, and they deserve to know what is happening behind the scenes more then us since this is about their current or future job.... that being said, I do kind of understand why they're being so secretive and shutting everyone out, and that's due to all the "leaks" that have been spread online. I understand the anger but I really wish some people would realize that discussing leaked bts lore stuff in ccs discord servers does not help the situation at all and instead makes it seem like they're only doing this to rile up the fandom against quackity studios by using the lore of people's fav characters.
At the end of the day, I think people just aren't used to dealing with a situation that does not have a clear cut solution and someone to clearly hate, so the result is this doomposting and the over aggressiveness toward anything related to the project. Personally, I haven't witnessed anything that made me lose faith in the qsmp like some people have been saying, as every change that we've seen so far coincides with what quackity said on stream a while ago. I only wish things were communicated properly to the admins clearly, as they're the ones most affected, so I hope that's resolved soon. Ultimately quackity is singlehandedly restructuring the server from basically zero, has had to fire people that were misusing money and power and, depending on what josè's document said, is probably gonna have to fire some more. This is not an easy process, nor a quick one, you're not gonna hear about sunshine and rainbows for a while and doomposting about everything you hear because you expected quick change is useless. Think before you speak, have a clear head and most importantly have empathy.

okay so. that qsmp bts stuff. it's pretty ugly! it's also like. i'll be honest. it's not hard for a group, especially a largely volunteer group of well meaning people trying their best, to get into massive trouble with incompetent, misguided, and/or just flat out malicious management. this has happened before and it will happen again. it's also a problem that has been solved before and will be solved again, especially now that it's out in the open and we know about it and we can fix it
do i know how to fix it? no.
you know who might have some ideas tho?
badboyhalo of munchymc who has so so so much experience specifically running minecraft servers what have events on them
cellbit with the entire massive production company it takes to put on ordem paranormal which is specifically a twitch based roleplay thing
any number of the many other seasoned industry professionals that quackity has surrounded himself with who have been doing this for a lot longer than he has and made his mistakes on a much smaller scale already
quackity is 23 years old. i think most of the admin team that we know about have been closer to his age than the ccs. the upper management clearly needs to some big shakeups. with this much public pressure, i think it'll happen. i don't know if they'll be fired or just have the fear of God put in them, but this is going to open doors to fix a lot of the problems that we've been having with hte qsmp for a while and hopefully make things much better for the admins and the viewers
also that being said, it's entirely possible that the admins may still not end up being paid what they're worth. to be clear, this would be Bad, but it would not surprise me. i also think twitch mods should be paid but it doesn't surprise me when that doesn't happen either. quackity is already running the qsmp at a loss so there just genuinely may not be money to pay them any more. if that's the case though, you do have to, like, be honest about that up front.

MINESTREAM
Tumblr media
SYPNOSIS > Wanting to start a new stream series with his best friends, Jay had a bright idea of playing some simple Minecraft with them. Everything was normal, until he realises there is another person in the call with them. He quickly learns that it was ni-ki’s older sister, (name). Watch how streaming a simple game of Minecraft can dig up some interesting feelings between the main leads.
EIGHT – asscrack
MASTERLIST | PREVIOUS | NEXT
a/n: the inspiration behind jake’s little world naming…that was the first word that popped into my head. don’t ask why. I’d like to know too.
Tumblr media
finally after so long with multiple technical issues on jay’s end, the minecraft series could officially start. he could hear jake and ni-ki just chatting about the free online soccer game they found on steam. his eyes gazed the mute button right beside your username. the other boys had turned on their cameras in discord while you and angel(Yvette) didn’t.
he hasn’t once heard your voice. well, he could barely hear your voice since he shut ni-ki’s stream off earlier due to the boys attempting to catch something. he only heard your giggle once and that was it. nonetheless, in that short moment he thought you sounded adorable. his heart drumming in his chest, wondering how your voice would sound like.
he shook his head and clicked on the stream button. as per usual, he puts on a waiting screen to tell the viewers that ‘hey, we’re going to play soon. please wait.’
he unmutes in the discord, “hey, everything has been set up. I just wanna ask what should the server name be?”
“asscrack.” jake suggests as he looks up from his computer and directly into the camera.
“what?” heeseung speaks up as he was caught off guard by the weird name.
“I don’t know, don’t ask me. I’m shit at giving names to things.” jake shrugs. the other boys deadpanned at him.
“let’s name it…sunoo and the boys.” sunoo suggests.
“as if. just put the default ‘My World’ that’s the easiest. not a single hassle to the world.” jungwon adds.
“Alphas.” sunghoon voices out.
“uhh, have you forgotten there are two girls here?” ni-ki says.
“well, who cares about that. Women can be dominant too.” sunghoon shrugs.
jay sighs, “I’m just going to call it MineStream.”
“lame ass name.” jake says. jay turns on his camera on discord and zooms in the camera to his face. he gave jake a death stare and so jake awkwardly laughs it off.
“okay, you scare me. I’m sorry.” jake pouts.
as for you, the moment jay opened his facecam. your eyes widened, a tiny gasp left your throat. since no one could see/hear your reaction due to you being muted and your camera was turned off, you were basically in shock. that man is most beautiful man you’ve ever seen.
the way his eyebrow raises as the rectangle glasses suited his face. he was just in a simple black shirt and his jet black hair was parted prettily. good lord. you were going to play with him? you were going to play with all these pretty boys?? oh lord.
“okay, the world is loading so wanna do the intro when we all load into the world?” jay asks.
“yeah, we should. we have new guests here and we have to introduce the fans too!” sunghoon says.
“alright, I’ve already loaded in. I sent the world invite into the discord. by the way, there are mods that I added to make the game more interesting.” jay says.
“the only interesting thing we should try to do is do hardcore mode or like a ‘if one person dies, everyone dies’ kinda thing.” sunoo suggests.
“we could do that for another time.”
you had clicked on the link and waited to load into the world. since ni-ki helped to create your account, you could easily go in and of course he was your first friend in the game. you had finally clicked turned on the camera in discord and so everyone could see you. you weren’t exactly streaming but you were recording for a video since ni-ki suggested that putting up videos onto YouTube also generates money. once everything was settled, jungwon claps his hand and starts off with the intro.
“hello everyone, today we are-” ni-ki’s character punches jungwon’s as he was talking. “ni-ki!”
“whoops misclick.” ni-ki says. jungwon rolls his eyes.
“today we are playing minecraft! woo!!”
“the premise of how this started. jay hyung wanted to do a series together that was nostalgic and so we decided to go with minecraft because who doesn’t love minecraft!” sunoo says.
“besides our normal friend group, we have two other people on here! let’s welcome angel and (name)!”
“hello hello.” angel says. her little vtuber character moves and tracks her movement.
“woah, cool character, angel. it’s really pretty.” sunoo says.
“oh, thank you.” angel smiles. everyone’s attention was now on you.
“oh umm, hi. I’m (name). I’m ni-ki’s older sister.” you waved towards the camera. everyone was mesmerised (excluding heeseung and ni-ki), you were beautiful.
“good god.” jake says.
“you have a very sexy voice. would love to hear that all night-” sunghoon gets cut off.
“sunghoon hyung, i will find a way to ban you from this server.” ni-ki warns him.
you giggled and jay’s heart melts. god, he’s a simp but he can’t show that…his facecam was turned on. jay turns to read a couple of his comments. most of them were simping for you. kinda made him jealous, not going to lie. plus, it didn’t help that jay had this overlay thing where whoever talked, it would display the person’s facecam (if turned on) from discord to his livestream.
— “she’s so pretty.”
— “wow, she’s so…no wonder she’s ni-ki’s older sister. the family genes are so strong.”
“let’s just start playing. gather resources everyone.” jay says.
and so everyone does. each of them collected wood, from the trees. you sat there looking clueless and so jay comes up to you in game.
“something wrong?” he asks.
“oh, sorry. this is my first time playing minecraft so I have zero clue how to do things.”
“want me to guide you?”
“sure.”
jay happily guides you on how to play the game, from punching wood to making crafting benches and finally making tools. jay turns to read the comments for a bit,
— “woah, what is this visual couple going on?”
— “yoooo, they would look cute together! like wow.”
jay was satisfied by the comments. he can’t help but look at your facecam, your concentrated face as you mined for stone and attempted to make stone weapons.
“hyung!” jungwon whacks jay’s character. it causes him to turn around.
“did you have to hit me.” jay deadpans.
“whoops, anyways. ni-ki and sunoo found a cave. I don’t remember minecraft caves being fucking huge.”
“there was a huge update I believe 1-2 years ago so yes, huge cave.”
“they also found a mob spawner with saddles in the chest and jake hyung stole them to try and get horses.”
jay sighs, “can’t say I’m not surprised.”
“are you and (name) noona flirting?” jungwon suddenly asks. it causes you and jay and to look at each other in game before turning to jungwon.
“no? he’s just teaching me how to play minecraft.”
“yeah, she doesn’t know much about the game so what better way then to teach her?”
“don’t believe it one bit. next thing you know, we will have a couple in a minecraft server who share a house together, sleep together and have cats and dogs together.”
— “oooo, jungwon is onto something.”
“the comments are agreeing with me.” jungwon smirks.
“shut the fuck up, my friend.” jay shoos jungwon away. the younger boy runs off to find sunghoon, who wants currently getting chased by a creeper.
jay sticks by you throughout the whole thing, he gives you tips and even hands you some stuff.
“we are making a community.” heeseung says.
“and why?”
“because with 9 people on this server, all the resources are going to be sucked up. also I am not sharing a house with any of you. especially, (name). she’ll make the house with pink wood.”
“there’s pink wood?” you say.
“there is, you just need to find a cherry blossom biome.” jay explains.
“why are you helping her?” heeseung asks.
“because she doesn’t know how to play and I’m just being a gentleman since you guys aren’t helping her, clearly.”
jake bursts out laughing, “I’m sorry but this is the first time I see you being so gentlemanly to a woman.”
“do you want me to set myself into creative so I can blow up your shit dirt house.” jay threatens.
“go ahead, I feel like renovating it anyways. just let me move my stuff first-”
sunoo quietly hands jay some tnt and a flint and steel. before jake could even grabbing his things from the chest. jay covers his base with the tnt and ignites it. it hisses.
“(name), I suggest you run if you don’t wanna blow up.” jay warns.
“oh.” you quickly dashed out of the way and the explosion was massive. it causes sunghoon to yell.
“I had a pet dog in there…” jake says.
“too bad, mess with me again and I’ll burn your next house.” jay says.
jake definitely learnt his lesson of not teasing jay during this session.

JUNE OF ARC concludes in a harrowing finale!
I really enjoyed drawing St. Joan of Arc cartoons this month, so thank you all for humoring me!
If you enjoyed them too, maybe we'll do it again next year.  We've only scratched the surface of her amazing story!
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Camp-followers were women who followed armies around to make money off the soldiers when they stopped for the day.  They were prostitutes with bad prosti-'tudes, man.  Other people might follow the camps for good reasons (like cooks and priests), but not these ladies. 2. This cartoon is based on witness testimonies from those closest to Joan.  According to them, her response to camp-followers was absolute.  She kicked out any harlots she found, sometimes with gentle admonitions, and other times with the flat of her sword. 3. I've heard some people question Joan by saying, "She's not very Christian.  Jesus WELCOMED prostitutes."  Yes, Jesus welcomed prostitutes.  REPENTANT prostitutes, who He forgave and then told, "Go and sin no more."  He had a very different reaction to the money-changers in the temple.  They disrespected His Father's presence, so He chased them off with a homemade whip.  Joan's mission was to guide her army in God's Name.  She worked hard to make her men go to Mass, receive the sacraments, and adopt behavior befitting servants of God.  Like the money-changers, the prostitutes mocked God's presence by their actions and intentions.  So, like Jesus, Joan drove them out.  Her only fault was not knowing how to fashion a whip of her own, to make the parallel more plain for her SLANDEROUS, PULING critics! 4. "This is a wholesome Christian war-camp!" is a play on the well-aged meme of Christian Minecraft servers, where you can't swear or post naughty things. 5. "I'll make you marry the next man I find you with!" is an actual threat Joan used, according to one witness during her Rehabilitation Trial. 6. "Walloping" is a good word.  Catch me outside. 7. I like drawing Joan and La Hire next to each other because she's so tiny.

(part one here) (part three here)
(CW: character experiences a severe derealization episode)
“D’you want me to order pizza?” Oli asks, somewhat redundantly, because Martyn is twenty-two (according to the police report) and a gamer, of course he’s not gonna turn down free pizza.
“Oh, god, yeah,” says Martyn. And, a second later - “Please.”
He fires up the Domino’s website obediently, pulls up the deals and picks one that’ll leave him some leftovers for when Martyn’s long gone tomorrow. Meateor for himself, as usual, and then he spins the laptop round on his knees to present Martyn with the options. “What are you having?”
Martyn stares at the screen, unblinking, for a few too many seconds.
“... Something wrong?”
He clears his throat. “Yeah, no, just. Um. Been a while.”
“D’you just want a margherita, then? Keep it easy?”
“No, I don’t - I was -” he grimaces, shakes his head roughly, and thumbs at the fabric of his shirt where the tea stain sits “- trying to remember what I liked.”
“Vegetarian?”
“No,” Martyn responds immediately.
“Olives? Mushrooms?”
“I’m not picky -”
“Pineapple on pizza?”
Martyn snorts. “Okay, yeah, I don’t much like pineapple on anything, I’ll give you that.”
“But as a concept.”
“No problem with it.”
“Then, Marty, my friend, you’ve lost the plot.”
He sits another moment, deliberating. Then - “Sweetcorn.”
“Yeah?”
“I like sweetcorn on pizza.”
“Alright,” says Oli, and spins the laptop round again to check the options. “Vegi Supreme or Chicken Feast?”
“I’ll take the chicken,” Martyn says, resolute.
Oli sends the order through, with potato wedges on the side, because it’s his money and he’s gonna pick the extra items for the deal. Then, once the little order tracker with the fake AI has popped up and started telling him stupid jokes to amuse him for the next 25 minutes or so, he turns back to look at Martyn. “Can I ask something?”
He raises his eyebrows. “Ask what?”
“And you don’t need to tell me if it’s, like, personal or whatever, just… what were you eating? If you haven’t seen pizza in however long?”
Martyn makes a face. “Whatever, honestly. It wasn’t a big worry for me - I mean, not like I could - yeah, it was just whatever. Not dead yet, so I’m clearly not malnourished.”
Oli cocks his head. “Whatever like whatever you were given, or whatever like you were scavenging?”
“Like - uh - like - I mean, I wouldn’t say scavenging, that’s - like whatever I could find? I know I’m not explaining this very clearly, it’s -”
“No, no, I said you didn’t need to tell me! Don’t have to say anything you don’t want to.” (It’s not like Oli doesn’t want to know, but he doesn’t need to know if it’s going to make Martyn uncomfortable to explain it.)
“Anyway. It wasn’t bad, it was just… y’know how Covid makes it so you can’t taste anything? Little bit like that.”
“Original Covid did. I don’t know about all the new variants.”
“Ah, yeah, heard about those! Did they ever run out of Greek letters?”
“Don’t think so, thank goodness.”
“Yeah,” Martyn nods.
Beside Oli, the little Domino’s robot lets him know that their pizzas are now going in the oven.
It feels odd, to be sitting here on the sofa, taking an extended lunch break with somebody who he’s only known from Minecraft servers and scratchy in-game prox chat. It feels odd to know that he’s doing hospitality for a man six or seven years younger than him, a friend who’s never answered out-of-character about himself before today. It feels odd to know that he’s actually looking at the real Martyn - not some rat, not some pirate, just… some guy.
Oli swallows and steels himself for what he’s about to say. “Erm - again. Don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to. But… besides this whole Doc thing, what was your life like? Your normal life?”
Martyn’s expression flips into something unreadable for a second, then mellows again into neutrality. “Yeah, uh - nothing special, really. Born and raised in Nottingham, did alright at school, got the grades for uni but I ended up deferring. I was trying to get a job in my gap year but I didn’t really wanna end up behind the counter at GAME or McDonald’s or anything, and nowhere else ever got back to my applications, so… spent a lot of time at home, playing video games. No girlfriend, no mates who really stuck after college; not much worth writing home about. I wasn’t much of anything, really, not then.”
Oli is, he decides, going to ignore the implications of that comment. “Family?”
“Mum, dad, sister who’s been moved out for a few years. Dog. Oh, I hope he’s still alive, that’d suck if I never see my dog again.”
“Fingers crossed,” says Oli.
“What about you? What’s the home life of OrionSound like, when he’s not at the computer?”
“Oh, Marty, my entire life is at the computer,” he quips. “I work in software development. I actually did my degree in psychology, but you’d be surprised, there’s not a lot of room in the market unless you’ve done a load of other certifications as well. I guess I could have got a therapy licence, but as it turned out, I’d spent enough time in first year making terrible visual novels that by the time I got into the workforce I technically knew how to code. AI snapping at our heels now, of course, but it’s probably gonna eat itself by Christmas, so I’m not too worried about that.”
“I dunno,” says Martyn, “I’ve seen some pretty advanced AI.”
“So, yeah. I spent a few years freelancing, contracting for one place or another - I’m quick, which people seem to like, although that’s mostly so I can get back to gaming as soon as possible. And then… like two and a bit years ago? Yeah, would’ve been two years this past July… then I got a really nice position at CHESTCorp, it’s mostly remote work, I drive down to London every few months so they can “review my performance in a controlled environment”, whatever that means, and they pay well enough that I can afford this place on my own, which is -”
Oli stops talking when he notices Martyn’s face has gone white as a sheet.
“What’s wrong?”
“I knew it,” Martyn murmurs.
“What?”
“I knew it,” he says again, stronger, “I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you, I knew you - I thought - he told me this would happen, I’ve seen it happen, I should’ve just learned from my mistakes the fucking first time, but clearly I’m stupid.”
“Marty, what are you -”
“Didn’t wanna believe this shit could follow me out here, but evidently it - oh. Oh, no, no, you fucking - it’s not over, is it? I’m still - that’s why nobody picked up the phone, it wasn’t real, you couldn’t synthesise my mother’s voice, I’d know! You’re CHEST, of course you’re CHEST, the one person I thought - I mean, I hoped - you’re fucking cruel, is what this is, it’s cruel, and you’re not fooling me twice. Don’t know how you got the food this realistic, but -”
“Martyn,” Oli tries to interrupt, “are you okay?”
“Shut the fuck up,” Martyn says through gritted teeth. “You’ve given the game away now, CHEST agent. Should’ve known it wasn’t real. Should’ve known I couldn’t get out that easy. Or you caught up before I got out, one of you fuckers, planted something, or - I don’t know, made me think I was finally out of this stupid place. Made me think it was fine so I’d start giving up secrets. Well, you’re not getting another word out of me, you fucking idiot. Some interrogation room you’ve got here, huh? This your best simulation? Get a better model for your TV, I’ll tell you that for free, the reflection’s too smooth.”
Well. Er. “Martyn,” he tries again, “I think you might be having a flashback?”
“Nothing back about it, you bastard. Giving me false hope like that. Thank god I don’t actually know Doc’s name, or you’d have been able to track him too, wouldn’t you? Fuck you. Don’t ever bring my family into this again, any of you.”
“Okay,” Oli says slowly, rifling through his psychology knowledge for grounding techniques, “you think this isn’t real, right now?”
“I know it isn’t real,” Martyn spits, “and it’s getting worse the more I’m poking at it. See, look -” he stomps a foot at the floor “- you’re losing resolution trying to keep it running.”
The carpet, which has not changed and is certainly not lower resolution than it was when they got here, endures being scuffed at. Oli doesn’t want to actually lay a hand on Martyn right now, though; he’s got a bad feeling that’ll end in something much worse than being kicked. Instead he dips into the kitchen across the room, pops an ice cube out of the tray faster than he’s ever needed to, and brings it back over to the sofa. “Here,” he says, chucking it at Martyn’s lap, “that real enough for you?”
Martyn catches the projectile reflexively. He stills, silent, both hands cupped around the ice cube, staying in the air.
Then, gradually, his eyes unfocused… his arms lower.
He opens them and stares down at the piece of ice in his palm, and, slowly and almost imperceptibly, begins to rock forward.
The Domino’s tracker chimes again. Their food has finished cooking, and it’s being delivered by Amal. Oli almost wants to laugh at the absurdity of it.
Whatever Martyn’s running from, it must go a lot deeper than he thought.

While I’m on the subject, because I didn’t know that much about Jaiden and Roier in the begining they were one of the pairs that made me think that maybe the pairs actually were random rather than being prepicked out or at least made me think that only a few of the pairs were planned and the rest random but now I’m thinking that all of the pairs were preselected by presumably Quackity and the pairs that ended up not really working out (ie Fit and Spreen or Dan and Maxo) only didn’t really work out because of the nature of the egg event.
Quackity has said that he didn’t really expect the egg event to end up like this, that he didn’t expect everyone to get this attached and what I think he was probably assuming was that the players would treat the eggs more like a pet, essentially like a tamagotchi and that the event would be more low key. And maybe it would have been if the eggs were just mobs, but instead the eggs from the beginning have been extremely child coded and having real people who can talk even if it is only using signs just cemented them as the players children.
Assuming that Quackity was trying to optimize the pairs for the best potential for interesting interactions that are fun to watch or people he thought would get along really well, maybe he was exactly on the money about the pairs that didn’t really end up spending that much time with each other but because of the nature of the event we didn’t really get to see that dynamic explored.
For example I believe Spreen has basically said he isn’t really that interested in the egg event, that he doesn’t really want to roleplay an egg dad and that’s totally fine. Most of the players have ended up being drawn in by the event, but it’s understandable that it wouldn’t be for everyone. But because of this I can’t help but wonder how things would have panned out if the event was something completely different. Using Spreen as an example again maybe he and Fit would have made a really fun duo in a different kind of event and they could have had a really interesting dynamic. They’re another pair that I don’t really know a lot about either of them, but I think I saw that Spreen is a good pvper and Fit is known for tb2t content so I can definitely think of some event types where that would make for a very interesting dynamic.
On the flip side I’m also wondering if the event was different would some of the pairs that work really well together now have a different dynamic or not work as well in that different event. Like would Slime and Mariana still be playing a couple constantly on the verge of divorce who can’t stop having weird live Minecraft sex? I feel like probably not, but what even would their dynamic look like without it. Or Foolish and Vegetta? Would their dynamic be similar because they were already starting to get along and are the builders of the server or would it be different? Would Bad have actually gotten paired with Luzu (like he should have because of the rules of the event) since this hypothetical event might not have leant itself to creating potential shippable pairs as well as being literal parents does and Quackity wouldn’t have had an excuse to play up a potential love triangle between him and two people he’s already shipped with. What would that dynamic have even looked like?
I don’t know, this is just something I’ve been thinking about because I just feel like for a lot of the pairs they work too well for them to have been random and I really feel like Quackity knew what he was doing and thanks to it we have some really amazing interactions between the various members of the server.

do you have any tips on how to live off as artist professionally?
First of all art isn't always a viable option depending where you live. The only reason ive been able to live off art is because the american dollar is worth 5x more than the brazilian real so even if i didn't get many comms i could still get by with the few i had. and if that wasn't the case I'd pretty much be eating breadcrumbs off the floor like a pigeon.
1. Whore yourself out and draw fanart of every popular or trending thing to gather attention to youe art
2. Learn your platforms: learn how each websites algorithm works, learn what are the best hours to post, etc
3. I cannot stress enough how important it is to find your niche
4. Everyone is fake no one wants to be your friend, other popular artists will start following you the moment your following becomes good enough. They'll start to interact with you too and want to become mutuals in order to share followings/traction. If you can play into that you can get them to share your stuff as well, but honestly don't fall for it bc most of them shittalk other artists on their privs or personal servers and the stress isnt worth it
5. Draw nsfw if possible/if you're comfortable with. People who commission porn pay well and they often have very few options when commissioning stuff bc most artists don't accept porn commissions.
6. Accept being an artist is a hard job that doesn't pay really well. If you're freelancing on comms life's always going to be a tightrope, so i suggest trying to do professional work once in a while so you can at least have the security of a salary. Draw backgrounds, gestures, scenes, studies, and the likes, bc those are what companies will want in your portfolio
7. Depending where you live it's extremely hard to live off as an artist, and being an artist is often means a very difficult struggle with finances. It's a job that requires passion, and more often than not turning art in a job causes creative burnout and complete loss of spark for it. Ask yourself: why do you want to be a professional artist? Isn't it better to keep it as a hobby? Maybe a side gig if you need money? You can still pursue art even if you don't do it to earn money, and it doesn't make you any less of an artist. It's a difficult job, and you need to understand its not going to be viable at all times and sometimes you'll have to throw in the towel and do something else to survive and there's 0 shame in that.
8. Be professional and courteous with your clients. Don't be a doormat, but don't go around ghosting people or being passive aggressive or taking them for granted and never deliver any product. Doing art for money is a JOB. Treat it like such. Inform your clients about delays, or any issues that may come up.
9. Take care of yourself and by that i mean eat decent food, exercise your arms, get 8 hours of sleep and get some sun (or take vitamin D periodically if youre a basement dweller). This isn't some self care uwu shit, it's actual science that your body is a machine and not providing what it needs to function leads to issues, and some of those issues include affecting your mental health, and mental health issues include and are not limited to: anxiety, depression, burnout, loneliness, feeling like your art sucks, feeling unmotivated, feeling like you're a failure, etc. Same with physical: for the love of GOD you DON'T want wrist issues. You dont want carpal or ulnar nerve entrapment. Don't draw 24/7. Don't push yourself either. If youre feeling shitty its time to STOP. Just picture a shitty graphics card trying to run minecraft with 5 shaders and 10 mods at once on fullscreen with 60 fps. Thats you. Youre the graphics card
10. Don't be a bitch, don't get involved with drama. Can't be an internet artist if you get cancelled so don't try to start shit at any point in time. Don't be a shit person.
And from the top of my head thats it, hope you like eating plain bread 🍞

Before I say this I need to assure that I adore so many of the things on the qsmp and am very thankful for the admins putting in so much work (though they should be working normal hours and getting paid for it).
Gonna be honest though, there are definitely things that probably cost a fuck ton of money or take so much effort for the people putting it together that really isn't necessary, CERTAINLY not more necessary that the admins' livelihoods.
The full animatics every time a lore related thing happens? Unnecessary. I don't know how they're creating those things but they LOOK expensive and very time consuming. Maybe instead, an npc can give the information during the event, instead of having to make a whole extra video. Or even, film your lore videos in actual minecraft and just show the clip instead of the fancy camera angles and such.
The puzzles at every lore event? Look....some ccs like this sort of thing, but it seems like a lot of work to create for something most of them aren't all that interested in
Speaking of, lore events themselves do not have to happen so often. The amount of times one has happened that I've come out of feeling...underwhelmed? Don't hype something up and keep your poor creators and mods and even fans up wayyy too late just for it to be unnecessary. Sure, learning new information is good, but how about everyone just finds it out in their own time instead of them (usually French ccs or those in similar time zones) having to stay up til like 3am for nothing.
Maybe don't require so many ccs to do stuff together. It makes a lot more sense to have just 1-5 ccs at a character specific-event than the Whole Server
Like, it was pretty immersion breaking to establish a "stealth mission", and then have the entire server go to it.
And, of course, the infamous Disliked lore event: that goddamn MAZE. Don't make the event, or even GETTING to the event tedious or frustrating
Not to be totally negative though, examples of events I really enjoyed: festa junina, Halloween, DIA DE LOS MUERTOS. I find my favourite lore usually isn't one that happened during an "event", because its impossible for good roleplay when there's so many people there. I feel like there needs to a separation of "this cc wants to do some story roleplay" and "we want to have what is basically a party in minecraft"

Leon Kennedy x Black!Fem!Reader
A/N: finally did it yall

ao3 link here
Of course the one time you actually needed help from the police, or any kind of law enforcement, the line was dead.
‘It’s probably just because of the rain…’ You thought to yourself. Your car had stopped in pretty much the middle of nowhere(which was really just the outskirts of Raccoon City), and you managed to push the car to some gas station that was 200 feet away.
You got back in the driver’s seat, the door still open just in case someone decided to be a good samaritan(though you were pretty sure those didn’t exist anymore), and used your chunky “mobile” phone to try and call 911 again. Of course, the only answer you got was the dead ring from the other side. You would have paid for gas…if you had money. You only planned to drive to a family member’s house and back, with all of your gas.
You lightly tossed the phone to the passengers seat in defeat before getting back out of the car just to sadly lean on the car door.
“Is everything alright, ma’m?” You heard someone, supposedly a man, ask.
You turned your head, fully prepared to give some sarcastic remark to make them back off, until you actually saw him.
There was no doubt that he was quite handsome, with his strong, but soft features and his ash blond hair, and you were hoping that he knew something about cars.
“Uh, not exactly. My car stopped like, two hundred feet back, and I had to push it here. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my wallet, or any cash for that matter, and I’m pretty sure no one is inside.”
He raised his eyebrows, almost in an “I’m sorry I asked” manner, before shoving his hands in his front pockets and looked towards the store.
“I could look for you…if you want.” He asked timidly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“We should probably just go together, I would feel kinda guilty if you got killed or something in there ‘cause of me.”
Your remark seemed to get a soft chuckle out of him.
“Hopefully I wouldn’t go down too easily..if there were danger in there. I am a police officer after all.” You sighed heavier than expected out of relief, but quickly regained your composure. After all, it’s the 90’s. How much sense would it make for a white male cop and a black female to be together in the middle of nowhere with dead powerlines?
You two walked up to the entrance, but quickly stopped. “Are you sure about this?” He asked you, his tone laced with worry.
“Yeah, totally. Let me just…” You started jogging in place for a second, trying to hype yourself up, before quickly realizing how stupid you looked.
“Sorry…I was trying to get amped up.” Now it was your turn to be timid.
 He laughed. “It’s fine.”
It took a strong pull on the door handle for it to open, but you two finally managed to get inside. There wasn’t a single light on in the place, and there was a strong sweet-but-disgusting smell. You looked over at the male, to see if he was smelling the same thing, just to see him making an adorable disgusted face.
“Wait,” You said, putting your hand in front of him.
“What? Is there danger?” You shook your head, even though you really had no idea.
“What’s your name? In case I do need help.”
“Leon. Leon Kennedy.” He held his hand out for you to shake, and you gladly accepted.
“Y/N L/N.”
“Eugh…” He said under his breath. “You smell that too?”
You silently nodded, before seeing him start to walk the other way, most likely trying to figure out where the smell is coming from. You grabbed him by the wrist, trying to stop him. “Have you seen a single horror movie? Don’t split up!”
He rubbed the back of his neck again. “Sorry. We’ve been in here a while, and we still haven’t found out if anyone was here.”
Absent-mindedly, you yelled: “Hello? Is anyone here?”
Both of you stayed still, hoping for a response, but got nothing in response except for a pained groan. You two quickly looked at each other, as if saying “Should we go check it out?” Before going on to do so.
You two ended up finding a man sitting against the wall, with many gashes on his body.
“Holy crap…” You said to yourself. “Do you need help?” You asked, before mentally facepalming. Of course that poor man needed help, but still, all he did was groan.
You and Leon looked at each other once more, then stood up from your kneeling position.
“We should call for help. I take it neither of us have any idea what to do..” Leon suggeste, but you vigorously shook your head.
“We should, but we can’t. The lines are dead. I’m lucky you showed up, because I’ve tried for hours.”
Leon sighed. “We can’t just leave him here!”
You warily kneeled back down and pressed two fingers to the man’s neck. He was barely breathing, and his heart seemed to be going five beats per minute.
You stood back up. “He’s pretty much on the verge of death. That might be the only option. Come on…” You told him, gently grabbing his wrist again to lead him out, as if he were in shock.
“What now?” He asked as you two stood outside.
“Could you give me a ride?”
“What about your car?”
“It’s a piece of junk anyways. I just need to get a few things.”
He scratched his head, then looked back at his car. “I guess I could do that. I can’t just leave you like that man. I’ll…go start it.” He answered, before awkwardly jogging off to the car, leaving you the privacy to go grab your things.
After taking everything you needed, you hopped into the passenger seat of his car.
“So,” He started, hands on the wheel. “Where too?”
“The station, I guess. Maybe I could reach someone there.”
He pulled the car out of the parking lot.
 “Not to pry…but who?”
You shook your head, like the topic wasn’t that important, which it really wasn’t. “Just someone I used to work with.”
Leon nodded. “I was thinking about heading there too. I guess it was a sign. I was seeing if I could reach someone too, I’m looking for him.”
You lifted your head off your hand. “Not to pry,” You started, sort of mimicking him. “But who?” Another chuckle.
“Some guy named Chris Redfield.”
You whipped your head towards him.
“That’s who I was trying to reach!”
“Jeez, just coincidence after coincidence. Would you happen to know where he is?”
You leaned back. “Nope. We aren’t super close. I’m closer to his sister, Claire.”
Leon nodded. “We should be close to the station now.” He told you as you two reached the city.
“Why are there so many people out there?” You rhetorically asked, looking out the window, until one tried to jump right at you, which made you thank every existing god that there was a window to keep the contact from happening.
“Wait…are those…zombies?!” You yelped.
It was about to be a long night.
A/N: kinda feeling like i want to do a prequel(-ish) to this where Chris and reader meet? idk lmk if you would want one :p

I do feel a little bit mad at myself for not questioning the finances of the QSMP team more closely, because it's not like I haven't wondered about it, it's always kinda been at the back of my mind, just wondering how is any of this sustainable because this seems like a lot of work to pay for when it doesn't really seem like Quackity is making any money from this project at all aside from just his own stream revenue
And I had wondered about whether they were paying everyone equally or if it was based on whatever the minimum wage of their country was (I had even wondered if they had fewer European admins because they would be more expensive to hire...)
And I had pretty much assumed that there was no way the eggs were getting paid per hour, it just wouldn't add up and they would probably get told to limit their hours if so, idk I just figured okay they probably just enjoy playing on the server so they voluntarily stay around a little longer than they're actually getting paid to... oh boy I was not expecting that they weren't getting paid at all for any of that
I just thought they were probably getting underpaid
idk, I wanted to have faith in Quackity though, I guess that's why I kept brushing it off and not thinking too hard about it
Unfortunately discovering that it was all based on volunteering makes all too much sense... I've heard this song before, it's nothing new
What it reminds me of the most is Evermore Park, if any of you have seen the Jenny Nicholson video
But the thing is, I wouldn't even be so mad about it if they were honest about the fact that these were volunteer positions, and also actually treated the volunteers as volunteers, who should be respected and shown all the gratitude in the world, they should be seen as creative partners, not some sort of underlings
Because I get it, loads of people would gladly do a job like this for free, it means getting to play Minecraft with cool popular streamers, getting to roleplay a character, getting to tell stories and be creative, and doing all that to support a project that you love and believe in, I understand that 100%, and again; the fact that QSMP doesn't really make any money for Quackity Studios means that this isn't work for a company with a profit motive (that's the difference between QSMP and Evermore)... although the streamers do make money out of this so eh... (honestly IMO it would help a lot of the QSMP members also paid for the server operating costs in some way, or even better; ran the whole thing as a collective)
But anyway there's a difference between being a valued partner and being exploited, and if you're being treated like an employee when you're a volunteer, chances are you're being exploited

companions start a minecraft server. how do they play? who lives with who? who starts a war over their dog dying?
Companions play Minecraft
Cait; hardcore mode speedrunner who looks for increasingly difficult and mindfuck ways to kill the Elder Dragon. Why? Success is a kind of high you'll get from nothing else. Especially when you kill the final boss with nothing but eggs and slime pistons. When playing on Hancock's server, functions as a bodyguard during less-safe builds, like underground, or at the edge of the forest. The first line of defense during a raid. Does busywork for Codsworth in exchange for throwing eggs. Piper built a traditional Irish pub for her to live in and you can occasionally see her just staring at it in wonder. Is the one with the pack of wolves. The town graveyard is filled with her fallen pups. Also has a parrot, just to watch it dance to the pub's jukebox.
Codsworth; Does the busywork around the town Hancock and the others have built. Town is probably called Goodneighbor, let's be real. Tends the farms, the animals, makes food, etc. Does a little bit of everything. Takes care of Curie's zoo, goes fishing with Danse, gives opinions on building materials...pure chilling. Refuses to slaughter farm animals for meat, he's too attached. Fish, bread, and vegetables are on the menu in Goodneighbor. Lives in a quaint little birch cottage by the river, where he keeps flowers, bees, and chickens. All of them have nametags. Second line of defense during a raid—touch his potato fields, and enjoy eggs for your last meal.
Curie; Spends all of her time following and studying the more fantastical creatures, like Endermen. Keeps real notes in a notebook as she plays, theorizing on their biology. Endlessly fascinated with the convergent evolution between Villagers and Pillagers. Will often join Preston's archeology expeditions to discover the lore hints in the environment. Dies a lot, usually has nothing but seeds and dirt in her inventory. Keeps an area filled with specimens in appropriate pens. Puts bounties out for new creatures. Favors the axolotls and fish, though. Lives in the second floor of the zoo's visitor center.
Danse; Minecraft has a powerful aura of sad nostalgia, and I don't think he could handle it. Will help out in Goodneighbor by going and getting materials for building. Enjoys fishing more than anything, though. Gets very attached to his orange cat that sits on his bed. His dirt hut is on the outskirts of Goodneighbor, but is covered in flowers, paintings, and whatever else decor the others have put up. Nick dyed his cat's collar pink. Accompanies X6 on Curie's specimen bounties. Will sometimes stop moving. Don't worry, he's just enraptured by the music and is enjoying it. Or is being made very sad by it. Same thing, right?
Deacon; Pays money to change his username to look like someone else's every week. Changes to their skin, too, but edited to have sunglasses. Otherwise, Herobrine wannabe. If you don't know what that is, you are too young to be reading this blog. Deacon will make small, uniform tunnels, fill them with oddities like bone and paper. He'll leave structures reminiscent of crosses. He'll use armor stands and elaborate Redstone mechanisms, make it look like someone's watching you from the trees, only for you to step on a hidden pressure plate, and the figure vanishes. Adds to the lore of the world. Has a rainbow wool house filled with so many rabbits, the game crashes when he approaches.
Gage; You think Gage is playing a kids game? He has shit to do. Like pirate it and sell copies for dirt cheap. Not even to make money, he just does it for the principle. The principle of fuck you, I will make as many copies of this shit as I damn well please. Probably has his face hung up in Mojang HQ, with darts stuck in the one good eye. Would play if he could join the side of the Pillagers. Yeah, sure. He could just set villages on fire himself...but where's the community in that?
Hancock; Owns the server. Keeps it on harder difficulties for the challenge, but not so much of a...whatever you call Cait's type of player. Avid builder, Goodneighbor is a massive project recreating Boston. It's not quite 1 to 1, but still damn impressive. But, hey, if Bobby wants to build places from Grognak, that's chill. Doesn't care about aesthetic or accuracy, just wants to relax and let the creative juices flow. Hancock himself lives in a giant mushroom he made out of mushroom blocks, wool, and mycelium. Pet of choice? Mushroom cow, obviously, courtesy of X6.
MacCready; Got sick for a week. Built the entire Ux-Ron galaxy on the other side of the river. Doesn't remember it, was hopped up on Nyquil and chicken broth in hot water. The resident hunter, when he isn't on a grape-chicken-liquid diet. He's good at building, but can get bored quickly. Aim is...frightening. Can kill a chicken across any gulf. Takes the nightshift guard duty to shoot down Phantoms. His house is a crashed UFO. Even got Deacon to do his redstone trickery, so it lights up all blinky when you trigger a plate at the door. Has a parrot for a pet.
Nick; One of the more adventurous ones. Goes off with Preston, X6, and Cait to explore the different biomes. The resident potion master. It's just a puzzlegame, but for cocktails that can make you jump real high. Keeps a garden with various ingredients, often ventures into the Nether for blaze powder and rods. Has a spawner caged up, so he just smacks them through the door. Writes down all potion or poison recipes in an in-game book and quill. The trial-and-error- failed recipes are also listed, so it's 200+ pages long. His potion hut is built like a speakeasy, and he lives in the basement with a black cat. Would fill the place with ravens, if they weren't in the spin-off game. Third line of defense in town—keeps a chest full of splash poisons. Occasionally opens it and stares at them, like he's not sure if he's willing to commit such an act.
Piper; Obsessed with the underwater update. Always diving for treasure and sunken ships and temples. Keeps all of the knickknacks in a chest back at Goodneighbor, not even for use. Piper isn't even an ocean kinda gal in real life, but...it's so pretty! And the dolphins are so cute! Trades resources for water-breathing potions from Nick. Fills out so many maps, keeps them framed on a massive wall on the Goodneighbor docks. Also keeps a book-and-quill with coordinates and traveling notes, it's longer than Nick's recipe book. Lives in an underwater bubble habitat off the coast of Goodneighbor. Keeps a pink dolphin in a massive glass habitat outside.
Preston; Resident archeologist. Excavates ruins and structures to study them. Spent a month in real life sponging up an underwater temple. Even longer digging out an End fortress. Goes into mineshafts and renovates them entirely, puts signs and maps up. Takes X6 most often on his expeditions, has his own wall of land-maps. Preston spends a lot of time studying the builds left in the world and pondering the historical implications. Real theorist over here. He's fascinated with the subtle story telling and clues. The End keeps him up at night. His house is the huge community library. Also keeps books, writes down his notes and theories. Has a llama for traveling. If anything happened to it, would be very distraught.
X6-88; Resident mercenary. Nick accidentally summoned the Wither? There's a baby zombie running around? Deacon's rabbits have broken out the windows, and the server is in legitimate danger if the horde grows any larger? Get X6-88. Appears with a clap of thunder on his black warhorse, wielding only the most enchanted of weapons, wearing the most enchanted of armor. He does all the hard, dangerous work. Clears out the Nether, the End, Dark Forests, Pillager encampments...X6 is the hard hitter that goes out into danger, whereas Cait stays behind to defend. Is the one who leashes animals and painstakingly brings them back to Goodneighbor, occasionally with Danse's help. He lost his mind, looking for pandas for Curie. Keeps one as a pet in his house, which is the castle in the graveyard.
