The Thing About Rationality and Logic

Someone who was stopping shipping once told me that she was doing it because she was a very realistic and rational person and her life was based on logic. So I asked her if by that she meant that people like me live in fantasy or are irrational. So, I patiently explained that what made me a shipper was exactly logic, more than imagination or fantasy. Because the logical explanation for many events in S&C's trajectory would be that they are together, but they don't want the outside world to know that they are.

I'll cite some examples: when you have a best friend and someone in that person's family dies, what logically do you do? You see, we're talking about best friends, very close people who publicly say how much they value each other and are close. The logical thing would be for you to show solidarity, post condolences and behave publicly in a discreet manner, in solidarity with the loss of that person you love so much, especially because you (by logic) probably have known the deceased relative. The logic would be stay by your best friend's side, support the family. But what we saw in that sad august days, (showed ostensibly for us to believe) was something that no logical answer about "best friends/siblings" could explain. The only way to explain the narrative created in those days would be that they are two people with a cordial, but superficial, relationship and I believe that from what has been stated by the two all these years, not even the Antis deep down believe that they are not close. . Again I ask: what is the need to hide that you were supporting your best friend in an extremely painful moment in anyone's life? Many people (famous or not) do this publicly, because after all it is not a crime, it is the expected logical behavior. So... Why hide it? We know what really happened because this a logical thing, but the others believe firmly he was not there for her.

Let's move on to another point: the man of the year award (or something like that); How can you logically explain that you chose your mother, your best friend and your co-worker to thank, as the most important women in your life? You who apparently had many "girlfriends", who still gets along well with your discreet ex-girlfriend who lives on another continent, who has others close female friends, but didn't mention any of them along with your co-worker. I've seen several men receiving tributes and the Acknowledgments always include the mother, another older woman of reference and the wives, girlfriends, fiancées. The only time I saw a co-worker mentioned (and that was after his mother, grandmother and wife), was when the achievement was due to his work at the company, so it was logical to mention the department secretary. What would then be the logical explanation for that speech?

Something that also defies logic: if I have a best friend and that person is in a relationship, I will obviously include that person's boyfriend/girlfriend on my list of people with whom I am always cordial. I'm not going to publicly act like the person doesn't exist in my best friend's life. We have a wonderful example of how CD & LL treat each other's boyfriends/girlfriends and they don't hide it. This is how it is when we think logically.

Another little point where logic calls us: your male best friend might talk about a female artist with admiration...you don't need to tell him "behave", after all he's not your husband. The most you can do in the case of friendship is admire her or say you don't like her, never act like you're jealous.

Maybe it's just me, but I never went on my best friend's social media to complain because everyone in the photo was wearing a suit and he wasn't. I also never apologized or justified why he didn't wear a tie. I do this normally with my husband. Because it's logical for wives to do this.

These are just small points, where thinking logically justifies what we believe. So anyone who thinks that we are not rational, live outside of reality or do not have logical reasoning is mistaken, or has not yet stopped to think logically.🙃🙃

Saw Fortress II

Well, is this what you've been waiting for?

So, as some of you may or may not know, Saw is getting a new movie, Saw X, in two days and I'm so excited for it to come out! I decided to pay tribute to this movie by making a crossover between Saw and, of course, Team Fortress 2. I've been getting interested and invested in the Saw franchise, from its story to the characters and especially the creative but deadly traps. Took me about 22 days to create as I had classes and needed to take breaks every once in a while, but I finally finished it and presented it to my brother as a birthday gift (as well as an official Fallout cookbook).

Now, for the fans of both Saw and TF2, I'll explain the reason why I chose the characters and their designated roles. It's time to play a game.

Character Comparison and Roles

Warning: Spoilers for the Saw franchise

RED Engineer: John Kramer aka Jigsaw - Well it's pretty much obvious why. They're both engineers. They both are talented in creating many different unique contraptions that are beneficial, but deadly and dangerous. Engie also has his morals, although it's way different from John's. Let's not forget that Engie can be somewhat a little sadistic and loves seeing his enemies go down, although John hates sadistic people despite the irony in his traps. Also, are we gonna ignore his Gunslinger taunt kill and his sinister, evil laugh? I'm not sure if Engie should have the Gunslinger with him, but I think it would be pretty cool to have it on him. Maybe in this version when he attempts to commit suicide and fails, but all he's left is a completely maimed hand, he cuts it off entirely and replaces it. It would be a pretty cool backstory as to why he has it and would make a really cool reveal to show to the audience. I wonder what Engie sounds like saying the iconic line "Game Over"?

BLU Medic: Dr. Lawrence Gordon - It's also pretty obvious why. He's a doctor. (Can you guess the reference?) Dr. Gordon is my favorite character in the series, and I love seeing the change and progress in his character from a doctor and trap victim in the first Saw film to John's favorable accomplice and in his words, "My greatest asset" in Saw 3D/Saw: The Final Chapter/ Saw VII (Yeah, I can't believe that movie has multiple names). In a way, it makes sense to have Medic as Dr. Gordon because just like how it was shown at the end of Saw VII that he and John worked great together, Medic and Engie are also seen working together in Expiration Date as lab partners. They both would work great as an amazing sadistic duo. Also, I think it's kind of cute to have Engie give Medic a prosthetic foot after he too cuts it off entirely. Not only would it make sense because Engie knows a thing or two about prosthetics, but it would show that Medic and Engie both have something in common: cut off what's unnecessary to help with your survival. Medic would also try to justify and reason Engie's actions. Also, I love Dr. Gordon's "Game Over" line, it's soooooo good!!! It's my personal favorite (Of course nothing beats John's iconic classic version). I could totally imagine how great Medic would sound saying that line!

BLU Spy: Detective Lieutenant Mark Hoffman - Ok, this is where things start to get a little interesting. Hoffman became John's accomplice after replicating his ideas and making his own traps that John never made himself. In a way, he's becoming Jigsaw. Just like how Spy can become and replicate any class, Hoffman also became more mysterious and secretive to his fellow colleagues and tried to frame Special Agent Peter Strahm as Jigsaw. In the end, when he gets caught, he goes against everyone and executes them, so the secret never comes out. Also, another reason why Spy is Hoffman and please tell me if I'm not the only one here who thought this when watching Saw: Did anyone else get Hoffman and Strahm mixed up because they almost look like the same person and it's always confusing when there's a scene that focuses on one of them but it's actually the other? I decided to have two Spies in the story with the BLU Spy as Hoffman and the RED Spy as Strahm since they look the same minus the color.

Miss Pauling: Amanda Young - You're probably thinking, "Why her? Is it because she just so happens to be female and I just filled her in that role?" Well yes, but actually no. It's because Amanda was very loyal to John, looking up to him, defending him constantly, and was very close to him. Miss Pauling fits that role when it comes to the Administrator, but here she's loyal to Engie. I feel like she likes Engie the most out of any other class, so she would definitely help him out as well as get advice from him. She also can get shit done when being asked to accomplish a task. Sadly, we know what's to come for Amanda. Just like how in the comics Miss Pauling fails to bring the Australium, Amanda fails in John's tasks as he reveals to her that she's part of another game. I do feel like Miss Pauling was stuck playing around in the Administrator's game and it was also implied that every year the Administrator sends people to assassinate her to see if she succeeds as if it's an employee review. So, yeah, Miss Pauling and Amanda both are stuck in pretty tight situations.

RED Pyro: Billy the Puppet - Ah, yes, who could we ever forget? The main icon of the series. Both Pyro and Billy have terrifying appearances that'll leave you quivering on sleepless nights. I used to fear Billy as a kid, but now I see him as endearing and strangely, but freakishly, adorable. Pyro is freaky-looking, but he's such an adorable bundle of flames. I could definitely imagine seeing Pyro riding on Billy's iconic tricycle. That would be so funny, cute, and scary. As for Pyro's voice, since Billy is voiced by John (and Hoffman, I think? Idk), I'm not sure if Engie (or Spy) should voice Pyro since Pyro speaks in muffles. Maybe they should, idk. I also don't know if Pyro should speak in mumbles from time to time or whether he should have the ability to move and just walk around or just remain seated. And, of course, I don't know if Pyro should do his iconic laugh (maybe sometimes, idk). What I do know however is that Pyro should definitely have the iconic Billy laugh.

RED Balloonicorn/The Combustible Cutie Cosmetic (Yeah, I know it's pink, but it's the RED team's version which is why it's pink): Pighead Mask - Oink! Or in this case, Neigh! The mask that John and his accomplices dress up as with the iconic robe (though I'm not sure if this robe should remain red and black or pink and black, maybe the first option should be for Engie since he's the leader while the accomplices get the latter, or not, maybe they should match Engie, idk). At first, I chose Balloonicorn since it's related to Pyro and I know he'll love seeing everyone dress up as one, but then I remembered that there's a cosmetic for Pyro as a mask called "The Combustible Cutie" that resembles Balloonicorn, and boy does that mask look freaking scary!!! It's really fitting for both Saw and TF2 as a whole! It's pretty funny and scary to imagine getting kidnapped by a herd of pink unicorns all because you've been very naughty.

I hope fans of Saw and Team Fortress 2 enjoy this lovely piece of fanart as this has become one of my all-time favorites to create. I was also listening to the Saw soundtrack specifically the Zepp/Main Saw Themes. My favorite being, of course, "Hello Zepp". It fits Engie and John's character theme even though it's Zepp's (although you can argue that it IS John's since it's his perspective since he's saying hello, which I agree). But my actual favorite is "Zepp Overture" because to me it sounds like a holy church. I especially like the way the string instruments sound. Yeah, I know you can argue that Dr. Gordon has a theme at the end of Saw VII called "Dr. Gordon Montage" and "The Final Zepp" but to me, I think this theme fits Medic the best because, y'know, he replicates that sound by playing an actual saw when you taunt which is both funny and adorable. And it really fits his character to be seen as a holier-than-thou and especially a God. This might also fit Spy, but idk. I'm not sure which themes work for Spy and Miss Pauling or even Pyro (if you want Pyro and Engie to share the same theme, then that's fine by me). I might need to go back and listen to all of them depending on the movies that Hoffman and Amanda appear in. Maybe some of you can suggest one. But anyway, please go listen to the Saw soundtrack, especially the Zepp/Main Saw Themes, it's soooooo good!!! I might as well argue that it's one of, if not, THE best horror themes out there!!!

Summary: Katniss’s perspective of Peeta falling in love with owning a bakery

Warnings: Slight references to past abuse, this has not been edited

Word count: 886

I’d never really had friends so the lack of wasn’t something that bothered me. We had Johanna and Annie, and when he wasn’t drunk off his face Haymitch too. That’s more than I ever had before the games. But Peeta was lonely, he’d never sat alone at lunch, always surrounded by a group of merchant friends. He’d always been more social than me, laughing boisterously at lunch, captivating the Capitol audience, befriending the other tributes during the quarter quell.

Right after the war neither of us had really been ready to venture back out into the world but with everyday I noticed our secluded routine wasn’t enough for him.

It had been 5 years since the war ended. Peeta deserved something good in his life.

It was actually Effie who suggested it first, we were enjoying our weekly dinner and an indepth conversation about the ever present difference between food security in the Capitol and the districts.

“Well Peeta, darling, I’m sure all of district 12 would enjoy more of your baking,” Effie suggested.

It started off slow. Peeta still held so much trauma from the dreadful environment he grew up in. We lay in bed one night, Peeta’s head on my chest as I twirled his baby soft blonde curls through my fingers,

“Do you think I’ll be like my Mother?” He asked abruptly,

“Never.” I assured him,

“If we go through with this bakery thing… I need it to be nothing like the old bakery,”

“Peeta it won’t be,”

Peeta tilted his head up to look at me, I smiled at the sight of his light, watery eyes as he asked, “How do you know?”

“Because, Peeta, I know you. You loved me when I couldn’t love you, you loved me when everything in your mind told you not to. I have no doubt that anything you could create would be full of nothing but love.”

He buried his face against my chest,

“If you want to go through with this, I will support you in every step of the way because I know it will be the most beautiful and happy place in all of district 12, nae, all of Panem.”

And so it begun, Peeta chose a lot in the centre of the new town- backing onto a large flowery field very far from the old town square.

Everyone was eager to help with getting the bakery ready. Effie ordered in all the supplies Peeta could need and Johanna even came to visit and help build furniture for the bakery.

The final product was marvellous. White wooden paneling, with a dandelion yellow trim around the roof, most importantly- a large, well lit, shiny window to display all of Peeta’s gorgeous cakes. Prim would’ve loved it…

“Do you think people will come?” Peeta asked nervously, 5 minutes before opening on the first day,

“Of course, everyone loves your baking kid,”

Haymitch assured him. I peered out the window, though it was true everyone loved Peeta’s baking, it was also true that everyone had kept their distance from their three dysfunctional victors.

“People are here,” Effie grinned, she wasn’t kidding- there was a crowd growing at the stairs to the bakery. I turned back to see Peeta who was peering over my shoulder with a contagious smile on his face. The kind of smile which you’d hardly believe possible after everything he’d lived through.

Haymitch leant over the counter and squeezed Peeta’s shoulder “Well, what are you waiting for? Let them in.”

The bakery is a huge success. Everyday the doors are flooded with regulars and new customers, all eager to fill their mouths with the sweetness of Peeta’s baking. With each day I notice Peeta’s smile grow. I used to think we’d never get the old Peeta back but every morning that I watch him kneading fresh bread in the glow of the oven it’s like nothing bad has ever happened to us.

On the bad days, which are fewer and fewer, Peeta hires one of Delly’s old friends to hold down the bakery. Everyone is always pleased when Peeta returns. On mornings I can’t get out of bed to accompany him down to the bakery he brings a warm loaf back with a bowl of soup at lunch. Somehow I’m always out of bed by dinner.

We heal, not fully, never fully healed, but better. District 12 evolves into a place of healing and growth alongside us.

Peeta’s fear of turning out like his mother becomes less by the day. I see him grow fonder of the young children running up to the display window. I think of the past, Prim, hunger, burnt bread. Peeta thinks of the future, I know he does. One day I hope to give him that future he aches for so purely.

One day, 5 maybe 10 years later our own daughter will press her nose against the window, She’ll have Prim’s eye for beauty but none of her longing. The dancing girl will never know a day where her father doesn’t sneak her a treat over the counter. That night when I told Peeta anything he creates will be filled with nothing but love will be true for not only the bakery, but the dancing girl and the boy with blonde curls who will follow shortly after.

What do you call a cowboy Ezio? Spaghetti western. Spaghetti” Westerns are a subgenre of Westerns whose name references the circumstances and location of their filming. Generally, a Spaghetti Western is a low-budget film produced by Italian directors (hence the “spaghetti” connection) and filmed in Europe, primarily in Almería and the Tabernas Desert.Feb 18, 2022.

Being in a Spaghetti Western makes me think of an actor AU where Ezio is a popular actor in Italy who gets the part of a major character in a Spaghetti Western movie. The main draw of the film is, of course, the leading man who goes by the name “Connor” (real name is kept a secret because he likes his privacy).

The film is a revenge story of a man who lost his tribe (including his mother), burned to the ground by a certain group for nefarious means and he hunts them down one by one.

Ezio plays the main character’s final target, the “Sheriff Jack O’Leary”, the leader of the group.

The twist of the story is that Ezio’s and Connor’s characters are actually father and son.

The bigger twist is that Ezio’s character didn’t even sign off on the burning of the village, his group did that on the orders of a high ranking politician that was helping the main character is finding this group.

A tale of betrayal and revenge with a downer ending of the main character killing his father because they could not find a middle ground.

Ezio was having fun. He was Italy’s darling, known for playing handsome charming men that women (and men) swooned over. So to play what could be considered as the main villain (or the secondary main villain to the politician pretending to be good) was good for him.

Along the way, he gets close to the cast and crew, even becoming something akin to an older brother to the leading man (who finally tells him his real name is Ratonhnhaké:ton and he chose the name ‘Connor’ as a tribute to a senior of his that supported and encouraged him when he was doing theater before).

Unorganized Notes:

Leonardo is the set director and he’s super passionate about it. He’s a big fan of western movies and an even bigger fan of sci fi movies.

Machiavelli is the director and he’s quite the perfectionist. On the other hand, he had worked with Ezio before and they get along.

Federico works as Ezio’s agent and PA in one, mostly because he’s worried about his little brother and also because he doesn’t want to become the next CEO of the Auditore Bank. Claudia can have that.

Ratonhnhaké:ton’s agent is a man only known as “Mr. Cormac”. He’s also Ratonhnhaké:ton’s bodyguard and Ratonhnhaké:ton admitted to Ezio later on that his father was the one who employed “Mr. Cormac”. “To keep an eye on you?” “To make up for the decades of parental neglect he believes he committed even though he didn’t even know I existed back then.”

The script is written by Altaïr under the pseudonym Philip S. He’s a well known scriptwriter who churn up lots of scripts a year and just give them to whoever wants them. No one has ever seen his face. Whenever he has to get an award for his script or asks for a meeting, some poor guy named Desmond Miles would appear, apologize for his boss’ rude behaviors and then just do whatever was needed. Some rumors say Philip S is a woman and that’s why they don’t want to make an appearance. No. Altaïr just don’t want to mingle with people he doesn’t know or even like. He just likes to write. Desmond is actually his secretary/live-in houseworker who got the job because no one else could stay as Altaïr’s houseworker long enough to learn Altaïr was also a writer. The pay is good, Desmond doesn’t need to pay for bills since he lives in Altaïr’s house and sometimes Altaïr’s hot childhood friend visits to make sure Altaïr hasn’t died yet (his words, not Desmond’s) so the view is nice.

Haytham Kenway may or may not be producing the film under one of his shell companies. No one is really sure what the Kenway family does but it’s Hollywood during the mid 60s so… it’s shady af.

Kaniehtí:io is alive and is supportive of her son’s rising popularity while being worried about him. She and Haytham never married and she never actually told him about Ratonhnhaké:ton. Haytham only learned about him after Ratonhnhaké:ton became a movie star.

Yes, Ratonhnhaké:ton started in theater (as a child actor) and Connor Davenport took him in as his ‘protege’. Connor Davenport, unfortunately, died (Hollywood drama)

Fic-to-Art #25: A decade-long journey with Sokka and Azula

Yep. I can't believe it's been a full decade either, but here we are. Ten years later and it feels like it was yesterday, almost.

On this month on Patreon, I figured I'd just make a larger sort of tribute to my long journey as a fic writer. I've had ups and downs, big moments and small, but ultimately, that I've had the chance to be here for as many years as I have is certainly a privilege, and one I don't take for granted.

I've met lots of great people because of my participation in this fandom, particularly in the Sokkla community. I've honestly made some of the best friends I've ever known through the past ten years. I've graduated from university, I've grown in many ways as a person, artist and writer, something that kid right out of high school would have never imagined possible when she first set out on this journey with zero clue of how far it would take her, and how important this would be for her in the years to follow.

After all this time, it feels like the red string of fate from The Reason has woven itself through all my stories afterwards, resulting in a very curious relationship between all these stories and the one that started it all. I mean, technically it was OoPB that started everything X'D but The Reason is by far the flagship of that particular setting. I haven't even revisited those stories in forever, but I really am glad that I did it for this particular purpose.

Matching Heartbeats... I picked the Yakuza AU as a reference to this one because people really missed it this year. But DAMN did those tattoos kick my ass to kingdom come, most difficult part of this entire mini project x'D

Underneath Starlit Skies, I picked the final scene of the Happy Family prompt because I couldn't decide on a better scene from any of the other prompts that year hahaha.

Leap of Faith, here I chose my personal favorite story from this year, Toph matchmaking Sokka and Azula, with Sokka in his councilman outfit and Azula in her ambassador attire.

Gladiator Part 3... spoilersssssss!

Alas, it was crazy to work on a project like this one on relatively short notice and pull it off regardless. I did know I wanted to do something like this, should the chance arise, and it kinda did? So I'm really glad I could finish it, maybe not exactly on time (two days late actually), but still within this month, haha.

I really hope you guys enjoy this massive piece, thank you to everyone who has been supporting me for the last decade, whether those who have been here all along, those who have only come by my work recently, as well as those who come and go. That my stories have touched anyone's lives is a miracle to me, and one I won't ever stop cherishing.

The first-ever detonated nuclear bomb was named after a John Donne poem? Smh.

“[Jean] Tatlock had introduced Oppenheimer to the poetry of John Donne, and it is widely believed he named the first test of a nuclear weapon ‘Trinity’ in reference to one of Donne's poems, as a tribute to her. In 1962, Leslie Groves wrote to Oppenheimer about the origin of the name, and elicited this reply:

I did suggest it... Why I chose the name is not clear, but I know what thoughts were in my mind. There is a poem of John Donne, written just before his death, which I know and love. From it a quotation:

As West and East

In all flatt Maps—and I am one—are one,

So death doth touch the Resurrection.

In another, better known devotional poem Donne opens,

Batter my heart, three person'd God.”

I hope you don’t mind but I gave some of the movie universes characters middle names and I’d like to share them with you!

For Mike I went with ‘Michael Alexis Schmidt’ for two reasons 1. It doesn’t fit him at all and he seems like the type of person whose name wouldn’t match him and 2. Alexis means Defender/Protecter

For Abby I went with ‘Abigail Charlotte Schmidt’ Mainly because Abby gave me huge Charlie vibes during the ‘they can see you’ scene and it sounds cute

For Garrett I chose ‘Garrett Christopher Schmidt’ to pay tribute to past CC names

For their mom I named her ‘Elodie Marin Schmidt’ I don’t have major reasons for this other then I enjoy it and it has ties to what my Mrs. Emily is named (I am a huge believer in the Schmidt’s being the Emily’s) (my Mrs. Emily is named Evangeline for reference)

I struggled with Vanessa, her game-counter’s middle name in my au is Alison and I didn’t want to reuse it for movie!Vanessa so this is what I landed on: ‘Vanessa Robin Shelly’ It is quite different than Alison but I think it fits! I chose Robin because of general bird symbolism but also because people think robins symbolize new beginnings

Oughhhh .... Mike with Alexis as his middle name. Soso true.. I see that so well. He does seem like the type of guy with weird names

The Met Gala is approaching, and opinions about what people will or should wear are becoming more prevalent. The theme is "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty", and many believe that attendees should choose vintage Lagerfeld designs he created for various fashion houses, notably Chanel and Fendi, or even from his eponymous brand. On IG, ideservecouture has even joked about a basic look he thinks people will go for, and based on previous Met Galas, he may be on to something.

I commented that I hope someone will wear a Karl-inspired look. Unfortunately, based on the responses I received, some people seemed to confuse a look "inspired by" with a costume. So, inspired by the concept of Disneybounding, I created a fashion edit showing what I would wear if I was invited to the Met Gala.

Of course, Lagerfeld is not a Disney character, so this outfit is not a Disneybound, but a Karl-bound. Like many characters from the House of Mouse, Lagerfeld had very distinctive elements when it came to how he dressed. These included sunglasses (usually black or aviator), high-collared white shirts, a black hair tie for his iconic low ponytail, fingerless gloves, and a black tie. He also wore jackets or blazers with pants, but the styles of those varied.

I chose Carolina Herrera pants with an overskirt as the first element for this outfit. Although I couldn't find a picture of Lagerfeld wearing pants with an overskirt, I would want to wear a poofy skirt to the Met Gala and thought this was a good compromise.

For the shirt, I selected a Brandon Maxwell shirt because of its high collar and white colour as Lagerfeld once said that he wished he had invented the white shirt. I chose a sequinned jacket for added sparkle because it's the Met Gala, and I have seen Lagerfeld wear some shiny jackets.

The accessories were also selected carefully. A black tie with a Chanel brooch was a must, as Lagerfeld always wore either a tie pin or a brooch on his tie. The fingerless gloves, which I chose from a brand he had gloves from, are also closely associated with the designer. I included a hair tie from Chanel and sunglasses from Fendi, the Italian house where he also worked for much longer than he did at Chanel.

Let's discuss the clutch and ankle boots. The clutch is an obvious reference to Karl's beloved cat, Choupette. However, the choice of boots is less clear. I observed that Karl frequently wore boots with his suits, but all the ones I examined appeared too casual for the Met Gala... except for the McQueen ankle boots. If you've ever observed Karl Lagerfeld's outfits, you'll have noticed that there was always an edgy quality to what he wore, whether in the accessories (little studs on his fingerless gloves, long silver necklaces) or something more apparent (distressed jeans). Therefore, I felt that these ankle boots fit that vibe and added a bit of savage beauty to the outfit.

This Karl-inspired outfit pays homage to the late designer's iconic style with his signature accessories and distinctive elements. It's not a costume, but a fun tribute to one of fashion's most influential figures.

I had always assumed Two of Us was a tribute to Jay , but I found that some people believed it to be larry song? I just wanted to ask if there were some references that I didn't get or it is just for Jay .

OF COURSE HE KNOWS who Mister Tseng is referring to- Link Tignol, the male tribute from District Three for the 63rd Hunger Games. Much like Patrick himself, he was an outlier amongst the long line of tributes that had been reaped in one…it’s strange, how history seemed to repeat itself that year, from Link volunteering to take his twin brother, Linus’ place to the female tribute, resembling Tellessa in both demeanor and appearance to even the build up to the 63rd Games themselves. Patrick couldn’t help but wonder if he was watching an adaptation of his own games, however messed up that would have been.

Maybe that was why he had been a tad more invested in training Link- tutoring the boy, teaching him how to observe the other tributes and to use his wits to survive in the arena, even though deep down, Patrick knew the odds were not in Link’s favor. That boy was destined at best, a swift, if not painless death in the arena. He was sickly, one who got easily winded, and who flinched even at the sound of metal grinding against metal. That was the main difference between Patrick and the boy- whereas Patrick gave off only the impression of benignity, the boy was that, truly. He was a lamb through and through and it was for that same reason that if the other tributes didn’t get to him first, then the arena would devour him alive.

Until he wasn’t. Until a CAREER, of all the tributes, changed the tune of his story and after fatally stabbing his district partner in the spinal cord, and started an alliance with Link. It didn’t make sense, the career’s sudden change of heart nor his strategy, but foolishly, something arose in Patrick for the first time in years: hope. Hope that maybe for once, he’ll be able to bring one child out of the arena and back to their family. For once, he could return to District Three with only one coffin…

( But even that’s a lie, isn’t it? Even if Link did live, that did not guarantee that he would be the same child that went into the arena. No one comes out of there in one piece, not really. )

And then the surprise attack and the hope bled out of his hands the same way Link went- one swift cut to his neck. That’s all it took before the cannons boomed and Link’s body was airlifted out of the arena, leaving only the career to fend for himself.

The career tribute, now an adult, carries the eyes of not only a jaded victor, but also of a defeated mentor.

Patrick doesn’t take a step closer. Doesn’t try to close the distance- for years Mister Tseng chose to keep his distance. Of course they all did with one another, but the frigidness had been especially prominent between them- was it the resentment Mister Tseng expected to receive? Or was it the guilt of having survived instead?

The answer doesn’t matter anymore.

“No matter what my answer is, it won’t help you.” Bones groaning, he takes the seat next to Mister Tseng. Oh, there are so many things Patrick could have said to Link. Could’ve said to all of them- something like, “You can do it.” Something like, “I believe in you.”

Something false like, “Everything will be okay.”

( That night before the 63rd Hunger Games, both Link and Patrick knew that the former would not be escaping the arena alive. And Patrick, choosing to keep pretenses for as long as possible, rested both hands on the boy’s shoulders and said, “Take care of yourself.” )

“Neither of you could have predicted what would happen in the arena.” Patrick says instead, eyes still staring ahead. “None of us ever will, but I’m sure she knew you were trying help the whole time. She might resent you for a very long time, but all you can do is be there for her- now when she needs it more than ever.”

How do I know what inspires me the "most"? I guess I'll just answer for each? Place: Driving!!! I get truckloads of Transformers ideas as I drive. I spot vehicles and envision whose alt mode that is. I eye road signs and think of metaphors for storyboarding. I listen to the symphony of the road and imagine sound design to fit an action movie. I spy the real actual Bumblebee and shoot him a wink because I know it's him. I get so much inspiration from driving. I chose the alt modes for my Shockwave and Soundwave because of real cars I saw beside me on the road :D Thing: Honestly anything in nature. A leaf. A bug. A crack in the sidewalk where plants grow through. The shape of a cloud. Distant birdsong. Sunlight hitting the ground just right. Raindrops. A bunny. A spiderweb. Etc. Activity: Listening to music or going on a walk! (Those are mutually exclusive btw.) How I express myself when I get inspired: anything from writing to daydreaming to dancing to singing to composing to...well. Anything, really.

Sometimes, I stumble upon a name very quickly, but more often than not, I will ponder and puzzle and scheme and muse until I find the perfect name...especially when it is meant to be one of my own. That's what happened with my url. To keep it simple though, the short answer is: "One Winged Angel," Robin from Batman, and Owl City. (Shoutout to my brother for the one time he gave me the Christmas gift of a generic blue wooden cube covered with inspirational sayings...simply because it reminded him of an Energon Cube, which was a tribute to our time watching TFP, RiD and Cyberverse together, beginning to end. That Cube sits near my desk, and I deliberately position my Transformers figures beside the sayings "It's gonna BE okay" and "BElieve in yourself" because, you know, 'Bee! ✨It's a gift that no one else would ever give me, especially for that specific reason, and that's why it's one of my most precious belongings. It's also great because no one would ever make the connection between that Cube and Transformers just by looking at it. A sweet inside joke indeed.) But if I have to pick specific items, I like DVD's and CD's and video games, cookies, fantasy books, good-quality electronics (for music and gaming), fanart prints / merch / etc., posters, keychains, Transformers and horse figures...yeah I'm very easy to shop for, lol. What can I say, I like art that brings me joy every time I look at / listen to it :D I also love Nerdy T-shirts but no one can ever get my size right so that one's hit or miss. (EVERYONE thinks I'm so much smaller than I actually am. Smh. I like giant T-shirts anyway but no one remembers that, haha. Once in a blue moon, when someone gets me a Nerdy T-shirt and the color actually works with my skin tone and the size actually fits or is beautifully oversized, it's amazing.)

The Freedom Manifesto!

We are free to be expressive and do as we please! It is our right! Throughout the duration of this class, I have had the opportunity to learn through the arts and comment on items that I found appealing. After taking the time to review all my posts, I have concluded that I value the right to freedom and enjoy the arts that are very detailed, expressive, and meaningful. My manifesto is that freedom can be visualized around us whether we notice it or not. It sometimes gets taken for granted, and we express it freely through art. It opposes the idea that we are not allowed to do as we want and have limits. The arts mentioned throughout this writing demonstrate that we can reveal our true selves through freedom and be as expressive as we wish in our messages behind our art ideas. One piece of art that symbolizes freedom is the sculpture of Iwo Jima. This piece is a memorial tribute to the marines who have died in the line of duty to protect our rights as Americans. The piece shows explicitly a handful of marines placing the American flag on the top of Mount Suribachi after a battle and having received victory. The post where I took pictures of the sky was a message that we are free to spend the entire day, every day, doing things that we want and what makes up happy. From sun up to even throughout the night, we have all the time in the world to accomplish things because we have the freedom to do so. In addition, the songs related to the ocean that I posted show that we can enjoy the ocean by relaxing in the sand or water on a hot sunny day. It can provide us with relaxation and calm our mood. We can explore nature and our environment because we have the capability and allowance. The movie Moonlight focuses on a young child transitioning into a young man. Part of the movie focuses on his sexual identity. We have the right to sexuality and the right to privacy, which we can express as we choose. Along with Moonlight, the oil painting The Swing demonstrates this concept of having sexual desires with whomever they please. Although it may be ethically wrong to have a mistress, they are allowed to go through with it. To continue this subject, the poem For a Girl I Know about to Be a Woman expresses what a woman shall look for in a man and the things that are ominous. As adults, we have the right to do as we please and express ourselves to whomever we choose to. The other poem I wrote about at the beginning of my blog refers to being a teacher and being in school with children. The song talks about how we are a school of cultures; we all have traditions that we follow, and we can make the world a better place together, even though we have different values. Being a part of various cultures demonstrates that we have the capability and the right to practice any religion we want or no religion and that we are all equal no matter what we choose to believe in. A video I decided to put in my blog was the Re-enactment by Francis Alys and Rafael Ortega. In the film, a man receives a gun from a store associate and then carries it in his hand while walking down the town streets. Although he got caught and was detained, our laws and rules allow us to possess and carry weapons. The right to bear arms is one of the freedoms we are granted if we desire to use it. We can express ourselves however we choose and are free to do as we please. Freedom and expressiveness are demonstrated throughout the arts in my blog, and I have chosen this as my manifesto. I chose this because, as an American citizen, I am granted the right to do things, and the ideas correlate within my postings. My work in this class has allowed me to find a trend in the arts that I enjoy looking at and commenting on. It opened my eyes to the true meaning behind art mediums and how we can express our thoughts and feelings. My perspective has shifted on the importance of the arts and their meanings due to this.

'Although Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer does not explain why the atomic bomb test was named "Trinity," it has a profound meaning that seemingly connects to Jean Tatlock. Based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin's book, American Prometheus, Oppenheimer's narrative primarily unfolds in three arcs. While the first arc focuses on how the physicist's early days at university led him to become a leading physicist, the second arc highlights his journey leading the Manhattan Project during World War II. Finally, the third arc in the movie is all about Oppenheimer facing the dire consequences of developing the bomb.

In all of these arcs, Oppenheimer creates mystery and intrigue surrounding many aspects of the physicist's narrative. For instance, it makes audiences wait till the end before revealing what Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein talked about during their brief encounter. However, while it resolves some of these overarching mysteries and questions, it leaves others unanswered. One of the unanswered mysteries is J. Robert Oppenheimer's reasoning for choosing the name "Trinity" for the atomic bomb test.

The Atomic Bomb's Trinity Test Name References A John Donne Poem

As portrayed in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, J. Robert Oppenheimer was deeply influenced by the ideas in the Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita. What the movie does not show, however, is that the American theoretical physicist's love for literature also extended to John Donne's metaphorical poems. While the exact origins of the codename "Trinity" are shrouded in mystery, it is believed to be a reference to one of John Donne's poems that left a profound impact on Oppenheimer.

Brigadier General Leslie R. Groves, Jr. (played by Matt Damon in Oppenheimer), the director of the Manhattan Project, wrote a letter to Oppenheimer in 1962, curiously investigating the origins of Trinity Test's name. He asked whether he chose the name simply because it would attract little attention or had other deeper reasoning in mind. Oppenheimer affirmed that suggested the name, but for a completely different reason. The theoretical physicist wrote that it was unclear to him why he went for the name, but he could recall the thoughts in his mind when he came up with it (via Los Alamos National Library).

To elaborate further, Oppenheimer cited a quote from John Donne's poem Hymn to God, My God, in My Sickness: "As West and East / In all flatt Maps – and I am one – are one, / So death doth touch the Resurrection." He then confirmed that while the quote still "does not make a Trinity," another Donne poem, Holy Sonnet XIV, alludes to the origins of the codename with its opening verse: "Batter my heart, three person'd God." The "Three person'd god" in the poem refers to the Holy Trinity, a religious Christian concept that posits the belief that God exists in three divine persons: The Father, The Son (Jesus Christ), and The Holy Spirit.

How Trinity Connects To Oppenheimer & Jean Tatlock's Relationship

Jean Tatlock introduced Oppenheimer to many literary works, including the poems of John Donne. Their romantic relationship and shared interest in literature are believed to have played a crucial role in shaping the physicist's intellectual endeavors and overall worldview. Owing to this, many speculate that the name Trinity was not only an allusion to John Donne's work but also a tribute to Jean Tatlock, one of the many details from the physicist's real life that Oppenheimer does not portray.'

Holiday customs in Brazil

Hi all, here are some facts I have learnt here in Brazil over the holiday period that I thought worth sharing.

The phrase: “pulando as sete ondinhas”

It is common for many Brazilians to go to the beach for New Years’ Eve and “pular as sete ondinhas” or jump the seven waves. The tradition has its roots in Afro-Brazilian religions as a tribute to Iemanjá the god of waters and the sea.

Prayers are said for each wave (source below):

1. “Pai Oxalá, eu te saúdo e agradeço pela imantação de Fé que mantém minha espiritualidade e religiosidade ativa nesta encarnação.” // "Father Oxalá, I salute you and thank you for the immantation of Faith that keeps my spirituality and religiosity active in this body."

2. “Mãe Oxum, eu te saúdo e agradeço por sentir amor em meu coração, pela família e pelos amigos.” // "Mother Oxum, I salute you and thank you for feeling love in my heart, for family and friends."

3. “Pai Oxóssi, eu te saúdo e reverencio vossa luz expansora em minha consciência que não aceita limitações e me mantém ativo na caça constante do meu crescimento intelectual, racional e consciencial.” // "Father Oxóssi, I salute you and revere your expanding light in my consciousness that accepts no limitations and keeps me active in the constant hunt for my intellectual, rational and consciential growth."

4. “Pai Xangô, eu te saúdo e me curvo à vossa luz de Justiça e equilíbrio em meus atos.” // "Father Xangô, I salute you and bow to your light of Justice and balance in my actions."

5. “Pai Ogum, eu te saúdo e evoco a retidão que mantém minha caminhada ordenada na direção correta.” // "Father Ogum, I salute you and evoke the righteousness that keeps my walk orderly in the right direction."

6. “Pai Obaluayê, eu te saúdo, silêncio e agradeço pela saúde do meu corpo.”// "Father Obaluayê, I salute you, silent and thank you for the health of my body".

7. “Mãe Yemanjá, Divina Rainha, eu te saúdo, reverencio e agradeço pela vida.” // "Mother Yemanjá, Divine Queen, I salute you, revere you and thank you for life."

Some even send flowers into the water as an offering.

The dessert: pavê

Pavê is a Brazilian dessert that has the layers of cream and biscuits or pieces of cake that is typically served at Christmas. It has a base of biscuits and contains condensed milk. You'd have to find a recipe for more details.

Interestingly, its name serves as a pun: “É pavê ou pá comê?” meaning “Is it to see or is it to eat?”

The New Year’s clothes

In Brazil many chose to wear white clothes on New Year’s Eve as it is said to bring peace to those who do so. Additionally, people specifically choose what colour underwear to use in order to attract certain things in the coming year. I have seen websites in Portuguese referring to this as a superstition but I would look into the topic further before calling this a superstition as I believe the white clothing comes from afro-Brazilian religions and so such word choice may appear dismissive of the validity of such religions. Nevertheless, the colours are said to bring:

-Yellow = wealth and wisdom

-Red = passion

-Blue = tranquillity, harmony and health

-Pink = love

-Purple = intuition and spirituality

-Black = strength and stability

-Orange = creativity and energy

-Green = luck

-Grey = success and joy
